[You have cleared the quest, ‘Beginner’s Training.’]

[You have obtained a Beginner’s Shovel.]

[You have received 100 gold.]

[You have acquired the skill, ‘Blunt Weapon Mastery LV1.’]

Hiro read the messages and lowered the shovel.

In front of him lay a fallen beginner goblin, which soon vanished into light.

“That’s really impressive.”

Hans muttered quietly.

To be honest, Hans thought Hiro wouldn’t be able to defeat even a beginner goblin with a shovel.

A shovel has no attack power whatsoever.

Even though the beginner goblin is set to be weaker than a normal goblin, it’s still a goblin.

It’s not an easy monster that one can defeat with a shovel.

“You fought really well.”

“Well, it was nothing.”

“Hahaha, no, it was truly remarkable.”

He had witnessed it.

Hiro dodged all of the goblin’s attacks and relentlessly targeted its head with pinpoint accuracy!

The movements he demonstrated were exceptional.

‘He’s got talent. It took longer because it was a shovel, but if it had been a sword, it wouldn’t have taken even 10 seconds.’

Hans felt a chill run down his spine.

It was a gut feeling.

This person might rise to a height that Hans himself could never reach and become a true knight.

Hans had felt inadequate, forcing him to despair and give up.

But if it was Hiro before him, he could make it.

“You…”

“Yes?”

“Have you ever considered becoming a knight?”

Ding!

[Hans’s favorability has increased.]

[Hans feels an overwhelming talent in you that he lacks.]

[Hans believes you can achieve the dream he abandoned.]

[A special job quest ‘Knight of the Sun’ has been generated.]

[Will you accept?]

“What do you think? If you wish, I will give you everything I have.”

A special job.

It is an advanced class that allows the use of special items, titles, and skills.

‘To get it this way?’

According to the community, countless people were desperate to find this special class.

Unlike ordinary classes, special classes possess overwhelming power.

It was said that the rank 1 player held a special class called Dragon Knight.

‘Most rankers have special classes too, don’t they?’

That’s how extraordinary the performance of special classes is.

As such, many people wanted one, and there were even experts dedicated to finding them.

“What do you think? This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!”

Hans was sure Hiro wouldn’t refuse.

He already knew that Hiro liked rare things, and the Knight of the Sun was the rarest of them all.

‘There’s no way he’d refuse. This kind of opportunity won’t come twice.’

He stared at Hiro with shining eyes.

Hiro opened his mouth.

“I will decline.”

[You have declined.]

“What!? Why!?”

“I have something I want to do.”

“Something you want to do? Hmm… well, I guess there’s no helping it. You can’t force someone who has a dream.”

[Hans’s favorability has slightly increased.]

[Hans appreciates your straightforwardness.]

“Hahaha, I heard that Heralds are greedy, but you seem a bit different! I’ll write you a recommendation. If you have this, there will be no entry fee for the guild.”

“Thank you.”

“So, what exactly do you plan to do?”

He was curious.

What was it that Hiro wanted to become, having rejected his offer?

Without hesitation, Hiro replied.

The reason he started his journey as an overlord was to achieve a dream he couldn’t realize in reality.

“I want to be a farmer.”

“Understood.”

***

[Recommendation]

Rank: F

Description: A recommendation letter written by Beginner Trainer Hans.

With this letter, the guild entry fee is waived.

Condition: Must be recognized by Hans.

“Hmm, not bad. I was planning to save money to start farming anyway.”

The guild entry fee was said to be 500 gold.

The gold earned from clearing the quest was only 100 gold.

‘Originally, I would have needed to do side quests to earn more money, right?’

He was lucky.

With Hans’s increased favorability, Hiro received a recommendation letter, allowing him to change his class without worry.

‘And…’

“Check!”

[Beginner’s Shovel]

Rank: F

Description: A shovel suitable for beginners. Used for digging.

Requirements: Level 1 or higher.

Durability: 500/500

Option: Strength +1, Digging Speed +10%

“Not bad. It feels good in the hand too.”

Hiro fiddled with the shovel for a while before putting it in his bag.

“Now that I think about it, I also received this, didn’t I?”

Hiro pulled out another item.

It was given to him by Hans when he declined the special job quest and expressed his desire to become a farmer.

“Check!”

[Unknown Seed]

Rank: ???

Description: A seed of unknown origin. Try planting it.

Requirements: Level 1 or higher.

‘When I was traveling in pursuit of my dream of becoming a knight, I found this seed in a temple. Since you want to be a farmer, I’ll give it to you.’

That’s how he received the seed.

Even after reading the description, he couldn’t figure out what kind of seed it was.

‘First, I’ll change my class to farmer and then plant it.’

Hiro quickly found the Farmer’s Guild.

As he walked through the streets, the scenery of the village came into view.

“Grilled skewers for sale! Just 10 gold! Try it, Heralds!”

“Delicious sweet potatoes for sale! Only 10 gold per potato! So cheap! Hahaha!”

“Herbs for sale! Come and check them out!”

“Cheap equipment available! Perfect for hunting…”

NPCs shouted enthusiastically, actively promoting their goods to players.

It was impressive.

He understood why *Overlord* hadn’t dropped from the top ranking in the year since its launch.

‘This is insane.’

The expressions, tones, and vibes of the NPCs were so lively that they could be mistaken for real humans.

Who could think that they were mere data made of ones and zeros?

‘Is this another world?’

“Amazing.”

Captivated by the scenery, Hiro continued toward the Farmer’s Guild.

The process of obtaining a job was simple.

If one had enough money, they could visit the respective guild to get a job.

Of course, depending on the job, the methods of changing classes varied.

‘To become a rogue, you need to get scouted by stealing, right? Assassins must kill someone.’

Rumor had it that to change class to a priest, you had to enter a temple and pray for ten days.

‘For mages, there’s supposedly a written exam.’

There were even cheats circulating online related to the mage’s written exam.

“Is this the place?”

Hiro found the Farmer’s Guild.

Changing his class wasn’t difficult.

He entered the guild, showed the NPC the recommendation letter, and immediately changed his class.

[You have changed your class to Farmer.]

[You have obtained the title, ‘Novice Farmer.’]

[Novice Farmer]

Rank: E (Multi)

Requirement: Change class to Farmer.

Option: Additional farming skill experience gain.

Description: Hmmm… A very promising novice farmer has arrived.

“Congratulations on becoming a farmer! You are now officially a farmer.”

“Really?”

“Yes! I never imagined a Herald would come here with a recommendation letter.”

Hannah, the NPC at the Farmer’s Guild, looked at Hiro with curiosity.

The recommendation letter is given by the instructor when a Herald defeats a beginner goblin in one strike.

“Usually, this letter is given only when a Herald shows exceptional talent, so most Heralds go to other guilds… This is surprising.”

“I wanted to farm.”

“Oh my goodness!”

[Hannah’s favorability has increased.]

“You’re quite a unique Herald!”

“Why? Farming is fun. Growing your own crops and harvesting them… the feeling is…”

“Ah… It’s truly an indescribable joy.”

[Hannah’s favorability has increased significantly.]

“I’m so moved by how earnest you are about farming, Herald!”

[Hannah’s favorability has increased significantly, allowing you to receive a special gift.]

“Will you accept this? I shouldn’t be giving this away, but… this is a special service for you, Herald!”

[You have acquired the ‘Land Clearing’ skill book.]

[You have acquired the ‘Seed Planting’ skill book.]

[You have acquired the ‘Harvesting’ skill book.]

‘Oh… I’m lucky.’

Normally, skill books had to be purchased with money.

Hiro had found out that each skill book cost around 500 gold.

‘Considering that 100 gold equals 1,000 won, 500 gold is…’

5,000 won.

While it wasn’t a huge amount, saving money was always a good thing.

“Thank you.”

“No problem! Oh, and if you want to farm, you’ll need land. Go behind the guild, where you’ll find guild-owned land. You can farm freely there.”

Hannah smiled and said, “The land in Plants Village is vast!”

***

“Is this the place?”

Hiro went to the back of the guild, as Hannah had instructed.

This area was land purchased by the Farmer’s Guild, where farming could be done freely.

‘There’s no one around?’

“Well, farming wasn’t exactly a popular class on the internet either.”

The vast land lay idle.

With no one around, Hiro was free to do whatever he wanted here.

“Should I start by learning the skills?”

Hiro took out the three skill books given by Hannah and used them.

[You have learned the skill, Land Clearing LV. 1.]

[You have learned the skill, Seed Planting LV. 1.]

[You have learned the skill, Harvesting LV. 1.]

[Land Clearing LV. 1]

Rank: F

Type: Passive

Experience: 0.00%

Description: Makes land clearing easier.

Effect: +10% work speed, -10% stamina consumption during work.

[Seed Planting LV. 1]

Rank: F

Type: Passive

Experience: 0.00%

Description: Enhances seed growth in the garden.

Effect: +10% growth speed, +5% yield.

[Harvesting LV. 1]

Rank: F

Type: Passive

Experience: 0.00%

Description: Makes crop harvesting easier.

Effect: +10% harvesting speed, -10% stamina consumption during harvest.

These three skills were essential for anyone pursuing the farmer class.

‘Then, should I start by planting sweet potatoes?’

Hiro took out 100 sweet potato seeds, which he had bought with a discount for 100 gold.

He also had a beginner’s hoe.

The Farmer’s Guild provided the hoe for free to beginner farmers.

Hiro tilted his head while examining the sweet potato seeds.

‘Sweet potatoes are usually grown from slips or sprouts.’

Sweet potatoes are one of the crops that need to be grown by planting the tuber itself, not seeds.

However, in *Overlord*, most crops could be planted from seeds for player convenience.

“Alright, let’s start by planting this.”

Hiro first took out the unknown seed given by Hans.

At that moment:

Ding!

[Hidden Piece Discovered!]

[The farmer has acquired an unknown seed.]

“Huh? What’s this?”

Hiro wore a surprised expression.

The next moment, a strong light burst from the seed, enveloping Hiro’s body.

By the time the light faded, Hiro had vanished from Plants Village without a trace.

“Oh right! Hiro, please remember to return the hoe later… huh? Where did he go? Has he already left?”

Hannah came out late, but when she couldn’t see Hiro, she returned to the guild.

‘Well, he’ll come back to the guild eventually, so he should bring it back.’

But Hannah didn’t know.

The hoe she had lent Hiro would never be returned.

***

Meanwhile, Hiro found himself in a new place.

“This is….”

Ding!

[You are the first Herald to visit the Spirit Realm.]

[You have discovered the Temple of a Forgotten God.]

“What….”

He was in the Spirit Realm.
