“What will you do, Sir Whitney?”

“……”

“This is a very rare opportunity.”

Now, with his shirt completely unbuttoned, the emperor whispered in a low voice as he looked at me, frozen in place.

“Having your own blood become the ruler of the empire.”

“……”

“In ancient history, so many dreamed of it that it led to bloody power struggles and conspiracies, even shaking entire nations.”

Yes, whether in my previous life or this one, it’s common for blood to be shed in the pursuit of power.

But I never imagined I’d get caught up in it.

“However, you don’t need to go through such storms.”

“……”

“You just need to spend one light night with me here and now.”

Even more unimaginable was that I’d get dragged into this as a reproductive tool — a seed bearer — to solve the emperor’s infertility, a condition tied to her fate as the Demon King’s successor.

“Are you worried about consequences? Don’t be. Nothing will happen to you.”

Thanks to that, my expression had been pretty twisted for a while, but the emperor, watching my face carefully, seemed to completely misread the reason.

“The child will be treated as illegitimate, but since I’ll personally carry and give birth to it, no one will be able to deny it has royal blood.”

“…Have you never thought that might actually be the problem?”

“What do you mean?”

“Um… the fact that the child will be considered illegitimate.”

Honestly, I didn’t even know where to begin correcting the emperor’s warped thinking, but I decided to start with the basics.

“So what’s the problem with that?”

“Oh, do you perhaps want to be treated properly as the child’s father?”

But hearing what the emperor said while tilting her head made it clear she didn’t even understand that most basic point.

“In that case, I can acknowledge you as my official consort. How’s that?”

“That’s not what I meant…”

“Why not? You’re only ‘engaged,’ aren’t you?”

Or perhaps, since it didn’t align with her goal of creating a successor with royal blood, she felt no need to understand it.

“If you can tolerate a bit of social criticism, a ‘promise’ like that is nothing — it can easily be broken for the position of second-in-command in the empire.”

Listening to the emperor continue, it became clear that this must be the correct answer.

She truly didn’t care whose blood made up the other half of her heir, as long as it included hers.

“Sorry, but I’m just not into someone like Your Majesty.”

“Hmm?”

In that case, I had to clearly state my opinion now.

“Rather than immediate gain, being with someone I can love for the rest of my life is what brings me happiness.”

I couldn’t throw away so much, especially my promise to Lady Meredia, just to provide the emperor with genetic material.

“For life, huh. Is that really so?”

But when the emperor’s lips curled slightly into a sneer at my words, a sense of foreboding began to rise in me.

“From what I know, that ‘life’ of yours might ironically be very short.”

“You really do know everything, don’t you?”

“…It’s not for nothing that I’m the ruler of the largest continent in history.”

As expected, the emperor was already aware of Meredia’s curse.

Well, she was the one who set a trap using Lady Meredia’s curse during the Talent Selection ceremony last time.

Just how deeply is she involved with black mages to have such information?

“Yes, truly impressive, Your Majesty.”

“That aside, your tone’s gotten a bit impolite, hasn’t it?”

As I finally stopped hiding my hostility, the emperor was quick to point it out.

“It’s kind of ridiculous to care about that in this situation, isn’t it?”

“Heh, is that so? You really are a fascinating one.”

Replying with a slightly annoyed voice, the emperor chuckled softly and crossed her legs.

“So, when will you answer my proposal?”

“Obviously, I refuse, Your Majesty.”

“And why is that?”

“I’ll twist what I said earlier just a little for you.”

Since the emperor still had a composed look on her face as she asked, I replied again, hoping that expression would finally crack.

“Your Majesty simply isn’t my type.”

“……”

“Maybe if you were a villainous noble lady my age, I’d have been swayed. Haha…”

The good news was that the emperor’s thin smile, which she had kept up the whole time, finally cracked just a little.

“…I’ve never been told I lack charm, you know.”

“Let’s call it intra-species aversion.”

“Hmmm…”

The bad news was that her eyes, slightly opened now and staring at me, had shifted to those of a lioness eyeing her prey.

“Fine, I suppose there’s no other choice then.”

Remaining alert to her change, I watched as the emperor suddenly narrowed her eyes and spoke.

“I had hoped we could do this consensually for your sake, but since the situation isn’t favorable, there’s no helping it. Kihihihi…”

At that moment, the emperor clapped her hands lightly, and the teddy bear that had been leaning against the wall and staring up at me began to grin unsettlingly again.

“Puppeteer. You know what to do, don’t you?”

“Oh dear. How indecent.”

“Don’t hold back. I’m counting on you.”

Listening closely to their conversation, I asked the emperor, fearing the worst.

“You’re seriously going to force it?”

“Hmm, I’m sorry. But it’s for the peace of the empire, so there’s no other way.”

And, as expected, my fears were right.

“Don’t worry. I may have no experience with men, but I’ll try to be as gentle as I can.”

“……”

“…Or maybe you prefer it a little rough? Just say the word. I’ll do my best to meet your needs…”

With that sinister smile on the emperor’s face, my body automatically began moving forward.

“Now, don’t make that face. I could’ve just taken your seed if I really wanted, but I chose to embrace you myself out of the bare minimum of respect.”

“……”

“Besides, it’d be a little strange to be pregnant while still a virgin. It helps prevent needless rumors, you see.”

As the emperor shamelessly continued to reveal her twisted beliefs, my legs moved without hesitation toward her.

‘Lady Meredia… is still too far away, huh.’

I thought I could faintly sense Lady Meredia’s presence in the distance, but it was far too faint and far away.

I briefly wondered if I should’ve brought Parsha along, but it was clearly inappropriate to expose a child to such a degenerate place.

If Alfred — now missing — had known, he might have thrown away his dignity as a butler and grabbed me by the collar.

‘Looks like I really don’t have a choice.’

In any case, this is a complete crisis — surrounded with no escape in sight.

But that doesn’t mean I came here without any backup plan like some fool.

‘…I really didn’t want to do this unless I had to.’

However, the problem is that even I don’t really want to use the method that could resolve this situation.

“Hoo…”

Yeah, let’s be honest about this at least.

Based on all the testimonies and my own experiences, it seems my face does come off a bit scary.

But that’s only when people see my usual, everyday face.

In truth, I actually know one way to make my face go beyond just “scary.”

Because even when I was young, not just my strict father but even my ever-so-kind mother used to warn me constantly.

“Never open your eyes.”

“Huh?”

“Your Majesty, have you perhaps ever been told something like that while growing up?”

As I quietly recalled the dear faces that floated briefly through my mind, I smiled and asked the emperor.

“What’s this all of a sudden?”

Naturally, the emperor tilted her head at my sudden question and asked back, but that was enough of an answer.

“So I take it that you haven’t.”

That alone was enough to understand the power dynamic between her and me.

***

‘Don’t open your eyes—have I ever heard anything like that?’

The emperor, Lilia Winter Klaus, tilted her head slightly at Whitney’s sudden question, who had somehow closed the distance to her nose, and quietly looked back on her past.

‘…No, I don’t think so.’

Of course, no one had ever dared to tell her such a thing.

Not only because very few people even knew the secret of her eyes, but also because her hypnotic eyes were a power that only worked at full force when they were open.

The reason the emperor usually kept her eyes half-closed was because, outwardly standing on the side of light, she had to keep that power hidden from the masses.

Had she not been the emperor, and had she not stood for the side of light, the nickname “the Slitted-Eyes Emperor” would never have existed.

‘It’s truly laughable.’

All her childhood portraits had been burned, and it was for that very reason.

Ever since awakening her powers as a child, Lilia had never cowered in the face of any threat or crisis—only pushing forward and upward.

She also knew all too well that if she hadn’t awakened those powers, she never would have overcome her fatal identity flaw.

That’s why the emperor had never considered her eyes a complex or something to be ashamed of.

Of course, she had inevitably become entangled with the likes of black mages and those who thrived in darkness, but that was a price she was more than willing to pay.

Her eyes had given her too much to be dismissed with mere curses.

“Sir Whitney, are you nervous?”

“……”

“Why would you say something so ridiculous all of a sudden…”

And that… was Lilia Winter Klaus’s critical misstep.

“Please remember this well, Your Majesty.”

“…?”

“…?”

She had failed to realize the fact that in this world, there are things so cursed that just possessing them forces you to keep them hidden.

“And that not everything in life goes according to plan.”

And by the time the emperor realized that truth—far too much time had already passed.

“Ah…?”

The exact same expression that once came over her face the moment her older brother—the previous emperor—revealed the secret of her birth was now slowly beginning to appear once more.

“Ki… Ki-hik…?”

And at that very moment, the teddy bear controlled by the puppeteer, which had been manipulating Whitney’s body, began to flail its arms in a panic and retreat backward.

“…?”

Apparently, that was not the end of the anomaly.

Even Meredia, who had been storming through the shop in anger, now had cold sweat running down her face.

-Gooooo…

And beyond that, the entire pleasure district where the shop was located began to be swept up in a massive current, losing all its light and being consumed by darkness.

At the center of that storm stood a single man—his expression now hardened as he looked down at the emperor before him.

And then, the mask on his face began to slowly crack.

Crack…

The mask soon crumbled completely and fell at his feet.

And the face that was finally revealed had changed in only one way compared to moments ago.

“Why do you look like that, Your Majesty?”

Yet, that one change had overturned the entire situation.

“Unlike before, you’re making quite a cute face now.”

“…!”

To be precise, Whitney’s eyes—once always shut—were now fully open for the first time.

In the ashen world, the first to make a move was Alon.

“!”

Alon, moving so fast that even Agu reacted a beat late, instantly kicked him in the stomach.

Kwaaaang!!!!

Agu shot through the air like a cannonball.

At the same time, lightning surrounding Alon scattered in all directions, burning everything around him and forming the shape of wings.

The impact was excessive for just a single movement.

The mouths of the surviving merchants and soldiers gaped open as if they would tear apart, and hope flickered in their eyes.

After sending Agu flying like a cannonball, Alon immediately reached out toward the air.

Pazzzzzzt-!!!!!

Massive bolts of lightning connecting the ashen world radiated in all directions, gathering into a colossal bolt in Alon’s grasp.

The lightning, absorbing energy with terrifying intensity as if it intended to consume everything—including Alon himself—swelled in an instant, splitting the ashen sky and earth.

Divine Punishment (天伐).

The lightning struck toward Agu, who was rolling on the ground.

!

The ashen world turned stark white.

It devoured the senses of the merchants and mercenaries.

The earth quaked.

And when their vision returned, what they saw was—

A conical fissure splitting the ashen land.

The merchants and mercenaries, who had regarded the overwhelming power with awe instead of hope, only had a brief moment to react.

“That’s insane—”

“He’s alive.”

It didn’t take long for their eyes to shift from astonishment to shock.

Within the massive conical crater Alon had created—

“Hah—This is beyond expectations.”

Agu (鬼), who had just been on the receiving end of a one-sided attack, smirked grimly as he looked at Alon.

Agu’s body bore many wounds.

However, none of them were severe enough to affect his combat ability.

Rine, who had been staring blankly until now, frowned.

“…….

Yet Alon showed no emotional disturbance whatsoever.

‘As expected, it’s not working.’

Agu exuded a relaxed composure.

Alon wasn’t surprised by that.

He had somewhat expected it.

‘To begin with, Agu is not someone I can deal with at my current level.’

The leader of one of the four major factions.

They were characters who appeared in the latter half of Psychedelia, only manageable when the protagonist and most of his allies reached nearly max level in the game.

Something had gone terribly wrong, though, as Agu now seemed to possess the power of Greed.

The creatures from the inner world that Agu controlled were never originally so grotesque and bizarre—they had singular forms.

And the humanoid scar on Agu’s chest hadn’t been there before.

In other words, no matter what Alon did at this moment, he could not bring Agu down.

“I was a little surprised, and it’s quite interesting, so I’ll entertain you a little longer. Heh.”

As if fully aware of this reality, Agu waved his hand dismissively, taunting him.

However, despite recognizing the despair of the situation, Alon did not feel despair.

Because he already had a plan in mind.

A way to do something about Agu standing before him.

Alon subtly shifted his gaze toward Rine.

He noticed Penia whispering something to her.

Pazzzzzzt!!

Without hesitation, Alon ignited his lightning and charged at Agu.

This time, even though Agu caught sight of Alon’s movement, he simply stood still, smirking as if daring him to try.

His confidence was something Alon could understand.

After all, Alon’s divine energy was gradually dissipating over time, whereas Agu—aside from his numerous but superficial wounds—was completely intact.

At this point.

Considering Agu’s personality in Psychedelia, to him, Alon was nothing more than an amusing toy—nothing more, nothing less.

But,

“Hoo—!”

Precisely because of that, Alon’s plan could be realized.

The moment Alon reached Agu, he gathered all his strength into his legs.

In response, the surrounding electricity concentrated at Alon’s feet.

Pazzzzzzt!!

He struck Agu with a kick.

Kwaaaang~!

With a deafening crash, Agu was once again blasted away like a cannonball.

Yet, even then, he continued to smirk at Alon.

As if mocking him—was this all he could do?

But in response to that reaction, Alon, beneath his expressionless face, smiled.

Because with this, he had achieved his goal.

Agu’s vision shifted.

From the empty ashen world to a vividly colored, violet-hued world.

The moment Agu realized he had entered the Forbidden Gate and saw Alon following in after him with a puzzled look—

Crackkk!

Until just a moment ago, Alon had been scattering lightning everywhere.

But now, he immediately dispelled it and formed a seal with his hands.

At that moment—

“……”

Agu sensed something was wrong.

‘What—!’

A sudden transformation within the space.

For the first time, a trace of panic crossed Agu’s face.

The Forbidden Gate’s world, which had been completely intact—

Crunch—Craaaack!!!

—Began to collapse.

The momentary panic over the sudden situation was brief.

‘……This is dangerous…………!’

Realizing that the collapse was caused by Alon, Agu immediately tried to rush at him.

“!”

Unfortunately for him, he failed.

At the moment Agu attempted to dash forward, a massive gate formed above Alon’s head.

“Pluto: Limited Deployment.”

And then—

Rine’s voice rang in Agu’s ears.

“Divine Punishment.”

A colossal mechanical hand rushed toward Agu.

Agu immediately twisted his body to evade, unleashing countless monstrous entities.

Using them as footholds, he attempted to escape from Pluto’s grasp.

But—

“!”

For just a brief moment.

Penia’s magic bound his legs.

Agu shattered the restraining spell in an instant with a mere shake of his body.

However—

The fleeting moment created by that magic—

Kwaaaang~!!

—Was enough for Pluto’s hand to reach Agu.

Simultaneously, six hands formed behind Alon’s back.

Hand Seals. Six Bindings.

As he completed the binding seal, the Forbidden Gate’s world shattered like glass, giving way to the abyss.

Snowflake (雪花).

The moment Alon completed the final seal—

The world, now completely broken,

“!!!!!”

Cast Agu into the abyss.

“Now, now, Marquis! Stop! You must stop! Aaaaaah! Falling, falling, falling, falling, falling, falling, falling, falling, falling, falling—aaaaack~!!!!”

Penia flailed in panic as she confirmed that Agu had been cast into the abyss, while Alon cut off the magic he had been performing.

And then.

Thud!

The shattered Forbidden Gate world began to return to its original form.

The world, cracked like broken glass, was restored as if time had reversed.

Tududududuk~!

Finally, after confirming that the void where Agu had been thrown had been completely filled—

“…..Hah.”

Alon let out a small sigh and sank to the ground.

####

“……I thought I was going to die.”

“Hohohoho~ So, Marquis, how was it? My perfect plan?”

As the Forbidden Gate was restored without a scratch, Alon muttered under his breath.

Penia, now brimming with pride, asked as if she hadn’t just been panicking moments ago.

Alon let out a small chuckle.

“I had my doubts, but it was flawless.”

“Right? I mean, I analyzed your magic and calculated everything myself while searching for the Forbidden Gate, so honestly, failure was never an option.”

“……Is that so?”

“Yes, remember when you were away for a bit? I went then.”

“You saved us all, then.”

“Heh.”

Penia puffed up her chest and exhaled sharply, as if demanding more praise.

Normally, she would have seemed arrogant.

But right now, Alon was more than willing to praise her over and over again.

“Even though you had warned me that space-time would distort due to the Forbidden Gate phenomenon, I didn’t expect it to be this extreme.”

“Well, to be honest, even I didn’t anticipate this much. Based on the magic level I observed from you before, the collapse should have been weaker than this.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes. Given your total mana capacity, I didn’t think you’d be able to bring down the entire Forbidden Gate world…… Maybe I miscalculated?”

Penia muttered to herself, lost in thought.

Alon then shifted his gaze to Rine, who was still staring blankly in the direction where Agu had been thrown.

“Are you alright?”

“Ah—”

Rine finally snapped back to reality and nodded.

“Yes, Godfather, thank you for your concern.”

“I’m glad to hear that, but you don’t look well.”

Rine hesitated, then gave an awkward smile.

“……Sorry, I must have worried you. It’s just—something is bothering me.”

“Agu?”

“Yes. I just wonder… if this is really the end.”

At her words, Penia shrugged and interjected.

“If that’s what you’re worried about, don’t be. No matter how strong that Agu guy is, he got thrown into the abyss. We won’t be seeing him again.”

“……Can we really believe that?”

“Hoho, of course! Beyond the abyss, there’s no mana, no nothing, and space-time is completely tangled. Survival is practically impossible. At most, we might be able to find some traces of him?”

She then quickly added—

“Though, with the space-time distortions, his body would probably be shredded into a thousand pieces, so at best, we might find a scrap of flesh or something.”

Clearing her throat, Penia then turned to Alon.

“Ahem, so, Marquis.”

“Yes?”

“I worked really hard, you know? I feel like I did something super helpful this time, too, and well—”

She glanced sideways at Alon expectantly.

Alon watched her for a moment before chuckling.

“When we return, I’ll give you one of my artifacts.”

“Really?!”

“Yes.”

“Kyaaa!! I knew I could count on you!”

Penia jumped up and down with a bright, triumphant expression.

She then quickly spun around and declared—

“Let’s go! We need to finish our journey!”

With sparkling eyes, she stepped through the Forbidden Gate’s exit.

“Let’s go too.”

“Yes, Godfather.”

Alon followed after her with Rine.

But then—

Swoosh~!

Penia suddenly backstepped, returning inside the Forbidden Gate.

“?”

Ignoring Alon’s puzzled expression, she stepped out of the gate again—

Swoosh~!

Only to immediately backpedal and re-enter.

“……What are you doing?”

After repeating this odd behavior several times, Alon finally asked.

Then Penia—

“Marquis…….”

“…?”

“Ahaha— I feel like my eyes might be playing tricks on me… Something feels… really off.”

She forced out an obviously mechanical, awkward laugh.

Hearing that, Alon stepped out of the Forbidden Gate himself—

And was met with—

“?”

Nothing but barren land.

No, to be precise—

“…!”

A ruined world.

The same devastated world he had seen every time he went to meet Kylrus.

A world where nothing existed.

“What the……?”

Amidst the absolute void,

Alon could only murmur blankly.

Round 358

Jeong So-yeon, who came to enjoy a retreat, suddenly felt sweat forming on her forehead.

She naturally wiped it off with the back of her hand and adjusted the work gloves on her hands properly.

Then, she got onto the rail cart along with the materials she had diligently transported.

“Whew!”

Anyone watching might wonder why she was working so hard instead of resting, but Jeong So-yeon was thoroughly enjoying her healing time.

The satisfaction of seeing the farm she was helping to build with her own hands.

In fact, Kyu-seong, as a token of appreciation for her help, let her choose a pig.

Because of that, she could also feel the fulfillment of personally constructing a home for her livestock.

‘How long has it been since I sweated over something other than dungeon hunts?’

As a high-level Awakener, she possessed physical strength and endurance far beyond that of ordinary people.

However, even she couldn’t help but sweat while building shelters and fences for the livestock.

“Maybe it’s because I’m using muscles I don’t usually use.”

Indeed, manual labor wasn’t something just anyone could do.

That was what Jeong So-yeon thought, but anyone who saw the amount of work she had done would have no choice but to sweat as well.

She had single-handedly moved loads equivalent to thirty carts.

That meant she had transported approximately 9,000 kg—9 tons—all by herself.

She had simply gotten so caught up in the excitement of working that she unknowingly ended up carrying most of the load alone.

—Creak!

“What? Is this for me?”

—Creak!

“Thanks.”

A goblin, who was also on the cart, handed her a bottle of water, as if to say thank you for the help.

Gulp, gulp.

“Ahh.”

Jeong So-yeon let out a satisfied sigh, just like a man chugging down a cold beer.

The refreshing sensation was incredible.

Upon closer inspection, it wasn’t just plain water—it had a faintly sweet aroma she had tasted once before.

Not only that, but something else seemed to have been added, giving it a crisp scent, probably some tea leaves harvested earlier.

“How can even the water here taste this good?”

—Kiruk?

After finishing the water, she remained seated on the cart, enjoying the surrounding scenery.

The breeze passing by at a comfortable speed, combined with the breathtaking natural landscape, made her feel utterly relaxed.

The dreamy sky, along with the vibrant colors of the scenery, made it feel perfect to simply sit on the cart and do nothing.

About ten minutes passed like that.

Before she knew it, Jeong So-yeon had arrived at Nyang Village.

Reluctantly pushing aside her lingering attachment to the ride, she began unloading the cargo.

From this point, she would have to carry the materials herself to the location where the fence was to be built.

—Kang! Kang!

—Kang!

The gnolls, who had been waiting in advance, let out cries as if to say, “You’ve worked hard, leave the rest to us now.”

“Aww, so cute.”

The sight of these adorable creatures stepping forward confidently, as if to reassure her, was incredibly endearing.

Watching them, she suddenly thought of the children at the orphanage and made a mental note to ask Kyu-seong about them when she got the chance.

“I’ll help you, guys.”

Jeong So-yeon helped the gnolls secure the load, then stacked a bunch of materials on her own back.

“Let’s go!”

—Kang! Kang!

The goblins who had come with her waved goodbye before hopping onto their cart and heading back to the mines.

Jeong So-yeon waved back at them before setting off with the construction materials on her shoulders.

“Oh, So-yeon! You don’t have to do it like that.”

Kyu-seong appeared, approaching from the other side.

He was using Woofy and Purr to transport the materials.

As expected of high-ranking monsters, they were effortlessly carrying the heavy loads.

“For Romrom’s sake, this much is nothing.”

“Romrom? Ah, you decided on a name?”

“Yes. From now on, it’s Romrom.”

The particularly large wild boar that Jeong So-yeon had chosen.

According to Lee Seon-ah, it was probably the leader of its herd.

Since she had to pick just one, she went with the most impressive-looking one.

“How are they doing? Are they adjusting well?”

“They love it. They were already doing fine, but after moving to this humid terrain, they’ve been having a blast—taking mud baths, bouncing around all over the place.”

“Wow! I can’t wait to see them!”

Since Kyu-seong and Seon-ah had just finished moving the boars, Jeong So-yeon was eager to check on them.

After finishing their conversation, they resumed moving, and before long, they arrived at the pasture where the boars were kept.

—Woof!

Small puppies were energetically running around, blocking the boars from straying beyond their territory.

Surprisingly, the boars obediently followed their warnings.

‘They’re much more docile than they look.’

Of course, that was just a temporary illusion.

Normally, they were quiet, but when hungry, they became more ferocious than anything else—terrifying beasts with razor-sharp fangs.

However, at least in Kyu-seong’s dungeon, they never had a reason to act violently.

“Ah! So-yeon! Great job. Whoa, you brought so much! As expected of a Level 6 Awakener.”

“I’m Level 7 now.”

“What?! When?! When did you reach Level 7?! Why didn’t you tell me?!”

Jeong So-yeon and Lee Seon-ah, who were the same age, had grown quite close.

“A few days ago. Five days ago, I think? That’s why I was able to take such a long break.”

“Wow, congratulations! So it was just a few days ago. I’ve been so swamped with work that I completely missed it.”

“It’s okay. It’s partly my fault for not saying anything. Honestly, I was a little overwhelmed by all the attention, so I just celebrated quietly and moved on.”

Lee Seon-ah smiled warmly at Jeong So-yeon, who spoke shyly.

She looked at her as if she were an adorable younger sister.

“Aww, is that what happened, our little So-yeon?”

“What? Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Nothing, nothing. You’re just so cute, that’s all.”

As they chatted, goblins and gnolls busily started using the construction materials they had brought.

Soon, even the little Kkumuris joined in, moving large stones and wooden planks with their tiny bodies, constructing something.

It was the barn design that Lee Seon-ah had discussed in advance.

For now, they were focusing on laying out the basic framework.

Clang, clang.

They began groundwork for the railway tracks.

With the fence team, the barn team, and the railway team, three separate groups worked diligently.

“So impressive.”

Despite their cute appearances, these creatures were working together in perfect coordination, which was quite touching to witness.

Before long, even the shepherd dogs and boars had gathered to watch.

—Kiruk.

—Kang, kang, kang.

Were they actually communicating?

The work progressed as if they were exchanging conversations.

—Meow, meow, meow!

“Oh! The cats are here too!”

By the time some of the foundational construction was underway, reinforcements arrived.

It was the cat blacksmiths sent by Kyu-seong.

Although the gnolls and goblins were not entirely unskilled, they were not as specialized in craftsmanship as the cats.

As soon as the feline reinforcements joined in, the pace of work accelerated significantly.

“Great job, everyone.”

Kyu-seong, who had been working hard alongside Woofy and Purr, suddenly arrived with a group of rabbits.

“It’s snack time.”

—Kirik!

—Kang!

—Miyang.

A snack was prepared right on the spot.

What was once an empty field quickly transformed into a lavish buffet.

“…I always feel this way, but your brother is truly incredible.”

“My brother? I can’t accept that.”

Letting Seon-ah’s words pass through one ear, Jeong So-yeon simply enjoyed the buffet.

To think that in the middle of nowhere, a meal even better than a Michelin 3-star dish was being served in an instant.

This made working truly enjoyable.

“So-yeon.”

“Yes?”

Jeong So-yeon, whose cheeks were puffed out from eating so enthusiastically, lifted her head at the sudden call.

“You don’t have to overdo it. The kids see this as a kind of play, and there’s no need to rush the work either.”

“I’m doing it because I enjoy it! It feels like I’m building the village myself, and it’s really fun.”

“Haha. I understand that feeling well. But still, don’t feel pressured to push yourself. You can take a break anytime, even soak in the hot springs if you’d like.”

“Hot springs…”

Jeong So-yeon imagined it.

The feeling of finishing her work with satisfaction and then unwinding in a warm hot spring.

Since she had been sweating a lot and using her body extensively, it felt like soaking in the hot springs after work would be nothing short of heaven.

—Heheng.

At that moment, a Kkumuri approached and tugged at Kyu-seong’s pants.

Wondering what was going on, he turned his head and saw that one of the livestock shelters had already been completed.

“Wow, you guys already built it? That’s amazing!”

—Heheng.

No wonder the Kkumuri, who loved food, hadn’t been eating their snacks.

They must have been so close to finishing that they decided to complete it first.

After roughly filling their stomachs, Kyu-seong and his group headed toward the completed shelter.

As Seon-ah had mentioned, the structure was designed for optimal ventilation, but the interior was still empty.

“Wow! This is amazing.”

The shelter was large enough to comfortably house twenty wild boars.

In reality, all ninety-three could fit inside, but there was no need to cram them in.

They had plenty of land, plenty of building materials, and plenty of manpower.

Anticipating that more piglets would be captured in the future, they decided to construct ten additional shelters in advance.

“There’s no need to rush. They’re all doing fine as it is.”

The purpose of the shelters was to make livestock management easier and provide comfort for the boars.

As soon as the shelter was built inside the grazing area, some of the boars began showing interest.

Among them was Romrom, the leader boar that now belonged to Jeong So-yeon.

Romrom seemed the most curious, peering around at every corner.

“Oh, it’s going in!”

Before they knew it, Romrom slipped through the entrance of the boar shelter.

“Ah, we should spread some straw inside.”

Just in time, Bokkeum had brought in a large amount of straw.

They immediately laid it down inside, near where Romrom was exploring.

—Kkuik.

Romrom let out a pleased sound, as if approving of the arrangement.

Seeing that, Jeong So-yeon happily patted Romrom.

“Make yourself comfortable here, okay, Romrom?”

—Kkuik.

Romrom, much larger than the other wild boars—almost the size of a large dog—enjoyed the affectionate pats like an excited pet.

Watching this, Seon-ah narrowed her eyes slightly.

“Why are you looking at it like that?”

Kyu-seong asked, and instead of answering, Seon-ah stepped closer to Romrom and started inspecting something.

“It’s too fat.”

“Hey, that’s rude.”

“No, I’m not joking. This is…”

At first, Kyu-seong was playing along, but when he saw Seon-ah’s serious expression, his own face stiffened slightly.

“Is there a problem?”

Jeong So-yeon also asked with a concerned look, but Seon-ah shook her head.

“It’s not a problem… Hmm, I could be mistaken, but I think Romrom is pregnant.”

“…What?!”

Kyu-seong and Jeong So-yeon were both shocked by Seon-ah’s unexpected statement.

“Our Romrom isn’t a male?”

“Pregnant?!”

They had both assumed Romrom was a male, but Seon-ah shook her head and corrected them.

“Romrom is actually the alpha female.”

“Gasp.”

“And I’m pretty sure she’s expecting.”

Kyu-seong and Jeong So-yeon exchanged stunned glances before their faces lit up with joy.

“This is great news!”

“She’s having babies?! Wow, our Romrom is going to be a mom?”

After carefully examining Romrom and even using her Awakener abilities to communicate, Seon-ah nodded firmly.

“It’s certain. No wonder her belly looked bigger—I knew my eyes weren’t wrong.”

“Amazing!”

“But this will be Romrom’s first birth, so she needs extra care.”

“Of course! I’ll take good care of her! I’ll come by every day after work! That’s okay, right, Kyu-seong?”

Seeing Jeong So-yeon’s sparkling eyes, Kyu-seong smiled warmly and nodded.

“Of course.”

“Yay! Romrom, I’ll take care of you. Let’s have healthy babies, okay?”

An unexpected blessing.

The dungeon was about to welcome new life.

Clam, a ten-year veteran mercenary of the Lumber Mercenary Corps, could not comprehend what was unfolding before his eyes.

“S-Save me~!!”

Crunch~!

Just moments ago, his companion, who had been laughing and joking with him, was now floating midair, spilling his entrails.

It was strange.

Strange and beyond strange.

He could see nothing.

Nothing but the floating body of his companion.

And yet.

Even though that was all.

“Aaaaah-!! No, no, no!”

Snap-!

From the empty air, his companion’s head disappeared.

As if something had taken a bite out of it.

Splat-!

Blood poured down from the torn and missing torso, soaking Clam’s head.

The thick warmth of the blood, dripping down his hair, forced Clam to grasp reality.

“Ah.”

Soon, an indescribable fear began to fill Clam’s eyes.

Ten years.

Ten years as a mercenary had trained him to remain calm and composed in any situation.

But right now, those years meant nothing.

Cool-headedness and composure came from experience, from the ability to predict situations based on past encounters.

Thud-

The scene before him was an unknown terror he had never experienced before.

“Uwaaah—”

A voice, drenched in fear, escaped Clam’s mouth. He looked down with trembling eyes.

His companion, who had just been laughing and joking with him, was now nothing but a lump of flesh, crushed onto the ground.

And then.

Splash!

On the crimson blood pool formed from his fallen comrade, strange footprints began to appear—neither human nor belonging to a monster.

Step by step, they moved toward Clam.

Sensing his impending death, Clam squeezed his eyes shut.

Crack-!

What he heard was—

“?”

..?

It was supposed to be his final sound.

Yet, Clam reached up and felt his head, still intact.

He had clearly heard something bursting, yet he was unharmed.

Slowly, he opened his eyes.

And what he saw was—

“……!”

A golden crown.

Illuminated by the sun above the desert, shining brighter than anything else.

It hovered right above his head.

And that was not all.

“What…?”

Clam blankly looked around.

The space, once filled with gruesome slaughter, had frozen still.

The humans who had been writhing on the ground, screaming, were now dazed by the sudden halt.

Those who had been suspended midair, consumed by the unseen, crashed to the ground.

And at that moment, Clam witnessed it.

Dozens of golden crowns slicing through the air.

Saaaa—

As they intertwined, they formed a massive golden structure.

A mechanical hum sounded from beyond it, prompting Clam to cautiously turn his head.

There stood a girl with blue hair.

Penia Crysinne, the Vice Tower Master of the Blue Magic Tower.

Holding a staff embedded with a blue gemstone, she whispered something under her breath.

Then, she struck the staff downward.

With a crisp clang, a clear sound rang through the air.

And the world began to change.

The scorching sunlit world turned to ash-gray.

The golden sands lost their luster.

The brilliant golden crowns dimmed, losing their radiance.

And then, they appeared.

Those impaled by the golden crowns.

“Urgh~!”

Clam gagged involuntarily.

Despite his ten years as a mercenary, having witnessed all manner of filth and brutality—

The sight before him was enough to churn his stomach.

He could not even find the words to describe them.

Too insect-like to be human.

Too beast-like to be insects.

Too monstrous to be mere animals.

No, too much like slabs of flesh to be mere monsters.

Some had their intestines spilling out.

Some had gnawed through their own bodies with their teeth.

Some had limbs grotesquely twisted.

They were—

|-!!

|-!!!!

■■-!!!

Things one would expect to see only in the hell described by priests.

They shrieked bizarrely as they were skewered by the golden crowns.

And at the end of that grotesque sight—

“Hah. Interesting.”

A man stood.

A man with a human face embedded in his chest like a heart.

Gripping the golden crowns that had impaled the others.

####

“M-M-Marquis? W-We did as you asked. S-So what now? Th-This doesn’t seem so simple…!!!”

Penia’s voice trembled in panic.

Alon let out a deep sigh.

Even he couldn’t quite grasp why Agu, one of the Four Great Powers, had suddenly appeared in the desert.

If it was going to move, it should have emerged near the border where the Jujor was.

“Marquis, should we run? Should we flee? Let’s run! Running sounds good right now!”

Alon glanced at her.

At a single look, he could tell Penia was in no normal state—but he fully understood her reaction.

In the story, whenever the Four Great Powers appeared, their mere presence was overwhelming.

Allies would faint.

Characters following the protagonist would struggle under their oppressive presence.

Some players had even criticized the game for making the descriptions of the Four Great Powers too repetitive.

…but now he understood.

Now, in this very moment, Alon realized why those descriptions had been so consistent.

Alon had only just barely stepped into the Fifth Rank of magic.

Yet, even for him, the Agu before him was suffocating, sending shivers down his spine just by looking at it.

Which meant that Penia, whose magic rank was higher than his, was feeling even more crushed by despair.

And to make matters worse—

“Huff… Huff~”

Even Rine, who had impaled the Agu with golden crowns, was breathing heavily under the pressure.

‘Revealing the hidden Agu through Penia had been a good move, but…’

Just as Alon was beginning to worry about the worsening situation—

Something started to crawl out from Agu’s shadow.

A grotesque creature, shifting its gaze across the people.

Then, its eyes landed on Alon.

And it grinned.

“Let’s make a deal.”

“…What?”

“Hand over the girl. Then I’ll withdraw.”

Before Alon could even process the situation, those words were spoken.

####

“Hand over the girl. Then I’ll withdraw.”

A sentence that pierced through the ears.

Rine, drenched in cold sweat, relentlessly analyzed the current situation.

This was her first time facing Agu directly.

However, with the knowledge in her mind, she could easily discern its identity and origin.

More importantly, she knew without a doubt—there was no way they could win against it right now.

“……”

Rine lifted her eyes to the sky.

The golden crowns that had impaled numerous Agu, twisting in the air.

They were supposed to be forming Pluto’s summoning gate.

But they weren’t.

The reason was clear—the dozens of Agu impaled between the crowns were defying the death they should have met.

Instead, their flesh swelled grotesquely, disrupting the circuit formation of the golden crowns.

Which meant—her available combat power was practically sealed.

Had that been the only problem, Rine might have still seen a chance for victory.

No matter how dire the situation, she had prepared a final move after the last attack from Greed.

But now, even that was meaningless.

‘How… How does he have Greed’s power…?’

The man who so boldly demanded her surrender—

Incomprehensibly, he possessed Greed’s abilities.

She couldn’t guess how he had acquired them, but she could clearly understand his goal.

‘He wants to devour me and claim the Library.’

Rine bit her lip, calculating every possible scenario.

But in just a few seconds, her sharp mind reached one unavoidable conclusion.

There was—

Nothing she could do.

Which meant only one option remained.

The safest way to ensure the Great Moon’s escape from this place—

Was to put her own life on the bargaining table.

She had no regrets.

She had already been saved twice.

Her life should have ended long ago without the Great Moon.

She would have perished under Greed’s control.

So, this was the right decision.

Rine manipulated the golden crown, aiming it at her own head.

She laced it with magic, setting it so that if her consciousness wavered, it would pierce through her skull.

Agu’s expression stiffened as it observed her actions.

And then—

Just as Rine was about to speak—

“I refuse.”

—She was cut off.

Agu shifted its gaze to the Great Moon.

Rine also turned to look at Alon.

With one hand forming a seal, his expression remained blank.

“Heh, if you’re worried I won’t keep my word, don’t be. Believe it or not, I tend to honor my promises.”

Agu spoke with playful ease.

But—

“Don’t make me say it twice.”

Alon—

“I refuse.”

He repeated, this time with a slightly hardened expression.

At that—

“Hah. I extended my generosity because I thought things would get complicated if I pushed too hard.”

Agu’s brows furrowed in mild irritation.

And then—

“In that case, die.”

In an instant, Agu appeared right before Alon.

So fast that no one could react.

Without hesitation, Agu drove its fist toward Alon’s heart.

“Ah—!”

A scream burst from Rine’s lips before she could finish her words.

At that moment—

A small black figure landed on Alon’s shoulder.

And—

Alon’s chest was pierced through.

BOOOOM—!!!

Everything exploded.

Faded sand erupted in all directions, stirring up clouds of dust.

Carriages behind them were obliterated.

Corpses were sent flying.

And within the thick dust—

“A—”

Rine, who had been reaching out toward Alon, stared blankly ahead.

The gray dust turned into pure white snowfall.

Her outstretched hand became small, like a child’s.

The scent of blood lingered in her nose.

And what finally filled her vision—

Was corpses.

Her—

Parents—

Her sister—

The consequence of her own powerlessness—

Her—

…Sin.

Thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump~!!!

Her heart pounded wildly.

Her mind, remembering everything, pulled the past to the surface.

The torn lips.

The guilt of that day.

The crime of that day.

The shattered memories of her family, scattered like shards of glass.

[It’s because you didn’t embrace Greed.]

A voice echoed in Rine’s head.

[Accept me.]

A voice so disturbingly vile—

As if it were scraping at the core of her being—

Yet, so irresistibly alluring.

[A power that will let you lose nothing.]

As if entranced, Rine reached out her hand—

“-”

A sudden voice cut through the moment.

It was Agu’s, but unlike before, it carried an undeniable tone of surprise.

Rine’s vision shifted once more.

The black figure that had reached for her vanished from sight.

The fragmented images of her family disappeared.

And—

Finally, she saw—

“….”

Alon—his heart impaled by Agu’s fist.

Yet, something was strange.

CRACKLE—!!

“Kh…!”

Agu, the one who had pierced Alon’s heart, grimaced in pain.

BAM—!

With a sharp twist, Agu swung its arm and struck Alon’s head.

For a moment, Alon’s head scattered like smoke.

But—

“….”

Almost instantly, it regenerated as if nothing had happened.

Agu’s pupils widened in shock.

“Huu~”

The black figure on Alon’s shoulder, radiating a bright light, seemed to merge into him.

Two horns began to sprout from his head.

And—

Alon, controlling the transformation occurring within his body, spoke the final word.

“Fusion.”

At first, it had been an accident.

During his research with Penia on divinity, they had stumbled upon an unexpected discovery.

That Blackie’s body could freely absorb not just magic, but divine power itself.

And beyond that—

During his battle with Kylrus, Alon had developed a technique to temporarily absorb Shadow Dragon’s power into his body.

That was the foundation of this fusion—

The synergy between magic and divinity.

By layering divine power onto Blackie, fusing with it, and donning the divinity of Kalannon—

While utilizing Thunder God’s Form to convert his magic-based body—

CRACKLE—!!!!!

Everything was transformed into divine energy, eliminating the burden of excessive magic consumption.

And—

Reconstructing his entire being using divinity itself.

Metamorphosis.

Divine Thunder.

Thus—

CRACKLE!!!

Amidst the ashen world—

A pair of crackling blue eyes gazed down upon Agu.

Round 357

Prev | TOC | Next

While Kyu-seong’s dungeon was buzzing with excitement over meat and livestock issues, the people outside were beginning to sense something strange in the air.

Governments around the world were checking daily to see if any new anomalies had occurred and were paying more attention than ever to the sudden appearance of new dungeons.

The frequency and intensity of anomaly checks by each country grew stronger every time nothing was found, and as a result, citizens also began to pick up on the atmosphere.

“A global crisis is approaching!!”

What was initially dismissed as a ridiculous outcry eventually spread as a worldwide crisis theory.

Governments and high-ranking Awakeners, who had contributed to the public’s anxiety, secretly gathered for a meeting in an attempt to address the issue…

“So, we’ve ended up gathering like this again.”

The Level 9 meeting, which had been skipped before, was finally reconvened.

This time, however, not only the Level 9 Awakeners but also world leaders joined via video conference.

And among them, the one burdened with the heaviest responsibility, Eli, sat with a hardened expression, remaining silent.

“But if we’ve searched this much and found nothing, doesn’t that mean something is wrong?”

Katrina, who had teleported all the Level 9 Awakeners here, shrugged with a tired face.

At her words, all the Level 9 Awakeners—except Kyler—who had gathered for the first time in a while, nodded in agreement.

“I understand that we can’t know everything that happens across the entire planet. But this is an event with terms like ‘dimensional invasion’ and ‘demon king’ attached to it. The fact that there are still no signs of it at all means something must be off.”

Hassan voiced his opinion.

And he was not the only one who thought so.

World leaders were also secretly mobilizing every resource at their disposal to search thoroughly, but nothing had been found.

“Until now….”

Eli finally spoke.

“I have never once doubted my abilities.”

“……”

“Considering it’s the power that made me the first Level 9 Awakener, there’s no reason to question its effectiveness.”

People agreed with his words.

After all, Eli had not only used his abilities to strengthen himself but had also helped many individuals and nations as a remarkable Awakener.

Because of that, no one here doubted his abilities.

However, due to the system’s inherently vague nature, they only suspected that there might have been some misunderstanding this time as well.

“We might have missed something!”

Lionheart King Raulor exclaimed.

Others also chimed in, agreeing that something might have been omitted from the information Eli had obtained.

“We have to consider multiple possibilities.”

“Hmm, what if the so-called ‘dimensional invasion’ is actually happening somewhere other than Earth, and it just happened to catch Eli’s attention?”

“Or could it be occurring in a region we haven’t checked yet, like the deep sea?”

Various opinions were voiced.

Yet, no one questioned Eli’s ability or words.

Although he didn’t show it outwardly, Eli felt a bit relieved by this.

In truth, he had been doubting himself for days, wondering if what he had seen was real.

Maybe he had been too exhausted and hallucinated, or perhaps his ability had malfunctioned.

He had been under extreme stress because of it, so the people’s trust gave him strength.

“Let’s go back to the beginning and approach this differently.”

“The beginning?”

“It’s tedious, but we should check every Awakener again, one by one.”

Eli had a vague sense of certainty.

Even if the dimensional invasion remained uncertain, the matters of the Demon King and the Hero were undoubtedly connected to someone who had already awakened.

And that person was likely hiding it out of fear that the truth would come to light.

‘That would make sense.’

The Demon King and the Hero.

Neither was a light topic.

Any Awakener involved with them would have good reason to keep it secret.

“But we need to approach this more carefully.”

“Explain.”

“Previously, we searched for them as if we were hunting rats, but this time, we should offer a clear reward.”

“That makes sense. If someone is hiding, it might be better to treat them well instead. Rather than searching in secret, we should make a grand public announcement.”

Hassan agreed, and Eli nodded.

“World leaders, please issue a large-scale announcement to identify any Awakeners connected to the Demon King or the Hero. This should not only represent the stance of the governments but also carry the credibility of us Level 9 Awakeners.”

Everyone agreed with Eli’s words, and the meeting concluded for the day.

“Please ensure that the guilds in each of your nations are also informed.”

“What about the matters concerning the dimensional invasion or the Seven Great Virtues?”

“We’ll have to continue the meetings.”

Since they had gathered, it was obvious that these discussions would continue for days.

But no one could complain.

In fact, there were no complaints to begin with.

However, in Hassan’s case, he kept seeing the World Tree he had left at home flash before his eyes.

Of course, the caretaker, Mark2, whom Kyu-seong had left behind, would take good care of it, but seeing it with his own eyes was a different matter.

“Would it be alright if this old man made a suggestion?”

“What is it, old man?”

“Would it be possible to change the meeting location to my home? Haha.”

Hassan’s eccentricities had already become well-known.

The story of how he destroyed an entire city just to plant a single tree.

Curious about what they had only heard in reports, everyone except Eli—who had seen it firsthand—readily agreed.

“So, I have to move everyone again, huh? Sigh.”

“Please take care of it.”

Katrina grumbled for a moment, but it wasn’t actually a difficult task.

She was just complaining for the sake of it.

Soon, a magic circle appeared beneath the feet of the Level 9 Awakeners, and in an instant, they teleported.

As the space shifted, a new scene unfolded before them.

The entire city had been leveled and flattened.

Hassan’s city, where even the horizon seemed visible.

And in the center of it all stood a massive tree.

“Wow. This is enormous.”

A tree so large that it seemed to have grown for nearly a thousand years.

Its circumference must have been at least 50 meters.

“Isn’t this the biggest tree on Earth?”

“Haha. It probably is.”

It had been less than a month since the World Tree was planted.

Yet, it had already become the largest tree on Earth.

“Where did you even find a tree like this? And the report didn’t say it was this big.”

“Have you all ever heard of something called the World Tree?”

“The World Tree? Wait, are you saying this is that World Tree?”

At last, the secret of the tree was revealed.

Even Eli, who had visited before, hadn’t known it was the World Tree.

He hadn’t expected such a grandiose tree to actually exist.

“Are you saying this tree is literally the World Tree?”

Katrina asked with a shocked expression.

Meanwhile, Zhengzheng, the Level 9 Awakener from China, who had been examining the trunk, burst into laughter.

“This is an incredible tree! It’s still growing!”

“……Now that I look closely, I can see it with my own eyes. How is it growing this fast? And if it continues at this rate, just how big will it get…?”

Raulor trailed off as he scanned the surroundings.

A vast, flattened land where all buildings had been destroyed.

And in the middle of it, a giant tree growing at an astonishing speed.

“Could it be….”

Would this tree really grow to fill this vast land?

The suspicion arose, but it was almost a certainty.

Realizing this, the other Level 9 Awakeners looked around in astonishment.

“Hey, old man Hassan. Are you saying this tree could grow so large that it fills this entire area? A single tree could be bigger than an entire forest?”

“Haha, even I don’t know. All I can do is watch and see how much more it grows.”

Though he said that, there was a subtle confidence in his tone.

And from that, everyone could tell.

That the tree called the World Tree would truly grow large enough to fill this place.

“It truly lives up to its name, the World Tree. But where did you even find a tree like this?”

It was Eli who answered Raulor’s question.

“A certain Awakener named Lee Kyu-seong.”

“Lee Kyu-seong?”

Katrina flinched at the mention of Kyu-seong’s name.

Since she knew many of his secrets, she couldn’t help but feel nervous whenever he was brought up.

“There’s a Level 1 Awakener who recently gained fame for mass-producing buff items.”

“What? A Level 1 Awakener mass-producing buff items? Wouldn’t that mean the effects are pretty insignificant?”

“Raulor, you’ve always been like this, but you really don’t pay enough attention to the world.”

By now, Kyu-seong’s reputation was well-known not just domestically but internationally.

But Raulor seemed completely unaware.

“He’s so talented that even that arrogant Naef personally tried to scout him.”

“What? Isthart? He never even tried to scout me!”

Raulor glared fiercely at Naef, who was standing nearby.

However, Naef simply stood there with his usual bright, unreadable smile.

“I met him once myself. I remember how he didn’t even flinch when he saw me.”

Zhengzheng recalled his encounter with Kyu-seong.

He was also the one who had told Kyu-seong about the dimensional invasion back then.

Squish?

At that moment, Mark2, the caretaker of the World Tree, tilted its head and appeared.

Everyone stared blankly at the sudden appearance of the monster.

“A slime?”

“He’s an old friend of mine. An excellent worker left here by Lee Kyu-seong.”

“Slimes are that smart? Aren’t they basically just mindless blobs?”

Raulor spoke, thinking of ordinary slimes.

But contrary to his expectations, Mark2 gave a small nod as if greeting them before returning to its work.

“This whole situation is just full of things I don’t understand.”

No one could argue with Raulor’s words.

Meanwhile, Katrina simply prayed that the conversation about Kyu-seong would quietly pass.

Katrina.

She already had a strong suspicion about the true identities of the Demon King and the Hero.

‘If we cross Kyu-seong, Earth will be destroyed!’

She had to be extremely careful not to upset him.

While each person was lost in their own thoughts and concerns—

Kyu-seong was getting scolded by his younger sister, Seon-ah.

***

“How could you just let them roam around like this?!”

Seon-ah’s voice rang sharply in my ears.

I scratched my head, checking each issue she pointed out.

“First, the fence! You can’t just put it here like this, all sloppy!”

“Uh…”

“It’s a good thing they’re so docile. If they weren’t, you’d be spending all day running around trying to catch them.”

“I see.”

“And how could you let the chickens and pigs roam together like this? You have to separate them into different areas.”

“Got it, I’ll do that.”

“And as for the boars, I don’t know much about their habits yet, so I can’t say for sure. For now, let’s leave this as a temporary grazing area. Later, we’ll move them to a place that suits them best.”

“A place that suits them best? Isn’t this good enough?”

“We don’t know that yet. We still don’t know whether they prefer damp areas, places with mud or swamps, or if they just need shade and cool air. We have to observe them first.”

“Ohh.”

I was glad I had asked Seon-ah for help.

Unlike my haphazard approach, she was much more systematic.

After communicating with the boars and chickens, Seon-ah diligently took notes and fell into deep thought.

“The chickens need a place with plenty of sunlight, but this place is tricky. It always feels like nighttime here.”

“Oh! In that case, we can install solar panels.”

Luckily, we had a lightning spirit with us.

We could generate electricity to create sunlight.

I had already spoken to my father about it in advance, so electrical wiring work would likely begin soon.

“As expected, the pigs prefer damp areas. Their unique body structure makes dry environments cause their skin to crack.”

“Got it. Actually, I already scouted a few places with the kids before, and there was a swampy area.”

“Hmm, a swamp is a bit too much. It would be better if there’s a wide open field nearby.”

“Noted.”

It felt satisfying to see things gradually coming together.

Realizing the need for not just free-range areas but also proper livestock housing, we began sketching out a rough plan.

Fortunately, Seon-ah had learned a lot from the Skyscraper Guild, which helped make the discussion smoother.

“Alright, shall we start building?”

“Brother, the land first.”

“Oh, right, right.”

Together with Ara, Seon-ah, and Jung So-yeon, we set out to find a good place to relocate the pigs.

We already had a few candidates, and we chose the closest one first.

“Once we make a proper road for carts and build the livestock shelter, we’re done.”

“Don’t forget the fences.”

“Oh, right. And we should release a guard dog here too.”

“A dog?”

Oh, Seon-ah hadn’t seen it yet.

I’d have to show her our new sheepdog later.

“Alright, time to head to Gnoll Village.”

Workers! Assemble! Assemble!

Master 107

Prev I TOC I Next

A woman wearing a golden mask and a staff member walk through a long, narrow corridor.

“This way, please.”

“If it’s not to your liking, would you prefer another room?”

Following silently behind them, I listened closely to the staff member, who kept nervously glancing at the woman in the golden mask.

“No, this place will do.”

“Understood, then…”

“Alright, you may leave us now.”

Though this place was originally meant for noblewomen, the staff’s attitude toward her was far more respectful than toward any other customer.

Well, it was only natural—after all, the face behind that golden mask belonged to the ruler of this empire.

“Shall we deliver the item you won later, or…”

“I’ll take care of it myself.”

“…Understood.”

Naturally, I couldn’t help but feel tense as I followed someone who had just purchased me for 12 billion gold.

“Why are you so tense?”

As I swallowed dryly, a lazy voice suddenly reached my ear.

“Is this your first time, boy?”

“…!”

“Oh my, what a surprise. It really does seem to be your first time.”

The emperor, who had somehow already wrapped her arm around my shoulder, grinned ominously as she dragged me into the room.

Even if it felt like I was being pulled into a monster’s lair, I had to endure it for the sake of what lay ahead.

‘I have to start fighting the dark mages in earnest now—can’t afford to be swayed by the emperor.’

The emperor might be a final boss candidate, but the true root of all evil in this world was still the dark mages.

And their gathering at the “Shadow Assembly” would likely signal the beginning of war.

If I ended up treating the emperor as a potential enemy in such a situation, it would only complicate things further.

That’s why I had to settle things with her today, here and now.

“Ha ha, not much of a talker, are you?”

……

“In that case, I won’t say much either—but surely you can at least thank your buyer.”

I kept my words to myself while glancing at the emperor, but the moment I saw her close the door, I quietly smiled.

The moment that door fully closed, it would begin.

This shop had top-tier soundproofing and security magic for a back alley joint, so there was no fear of our conversation leaking.

As soon as the door shut, I would quickly remove my mask and expose the emperor’s secrets—

‘…Huh?’

Just as I was about to raise my hand to the mask on my face, I froze with a stunned expression.

‘Why can’t I move my hand…?’

Now that I noticed, it wasn’t just my hand—my entire body felt frozen, as if paralyzed.

Rustle…

Just as I began to panic at this strange phenomenon, I heard the soft sound of fabric slipping nearby.

“Why are you just standing there?”

“Come here.”

The emperor, seated on the bed with her outer robe removed, beckoned to me with a languid smile.

…!?

And the next moment, my legs began to move on their own.

I quickly tried to tense my leg muscles, but it was no use.

My entire body moved as though controlled by strings.

‘…Mind control? No, that can’t be it.’

The emperor’s signature ability—”mind control”—flashed through my mind, but I quickly dismissed it.

That was because I had been deliberately avoiding eye contact with her to resist her power.

Moreover, if I had truly been mind-controlled despite my precautions, I wouldn’t even be aware something was wrong.

Ordinarily, mind control prevents you from realizing you’re being controlled at all.

But in that case, what on earth was happening now?

“Sir Whitney, why the long face?”

“……Ugh.”

“Do you have something you wish to say?”

As I silently sweated and struggled against the control, the emperor’s words—spoken while she had half-unbuttoned her clothes—made me let out a soft groan.

‘She found out long ago, didn’t she.’

Maybe I had grown too complacent while dealing with the increasingly docile Lady Meredia.

Of course the emperor wouldn’t be so simple.

Still, if she had already realized it, why was she continuing to undress?

It was getting harder and harder to know where to look.

Yet at this point, I couldn’t even avert my gaze or turn my head.

“Very well, I’ll allow you to speak.”

In this high-tension moment, the emperor suddenly snapped her fingers with a grin.

“…That’s possible?”

“Hehehe… Of course it is.”

As she glanced behind her and asked a question, a giggling voice suddenly emerged—and then something shot out from under the blanket.

“Aha ha…”

At the same time, I found I could speak again and finally began to grasp what was going on.

…A puppet master.

Among the four high-ranking members of the Shadow Union were the Puppet Master, Death Knight, Shadow Witch, and Jester.

After encountering the Shadow Witch who had infiltrated Lumen Ordo and tried to recruit me, I was now face to face with another one.

“Hello! Nice to meet you~”

Though appearing as a teddy bear half my size, that only confirmed this one’s true identity as the Puppet Master.

‘There were rumors the emperor had joined hands with the dark mages… If that’s the case…’

According to the Shadow Witch I met before, each of the Shadow Union leaders followed the “Great Shadow” while secretly plotting their own schemes.

So the one now grinning creepily from under the blanket must be working with the emperor.

Just like how the Shadow Witch had tried to recruit me.

‘Looks like this shop belongs to that guy.’

In the original story I know, the Puppet Master was famous not just for top-tier summoning, but also for a dark magic that allowed them to control intruders within their domain.

No wonder the whole shop had that weirdly cute, exhibition-like feel.

Turns out this entire store was the Puppet Master’s lair all along.

“How honored I am, Your Majesty.”

“…Hmm, your voice is calmer than I expected.”

There was no point in staying silent, so I spoke up.

The emperor tilted her head slightly as she looked me over.

“Do you perhaps have some hidden card?”

“……”

“For example, your lovely fiancée?”

To be honest, that hit the mark too precisely, and I had no choice but to shut my mouth.

“Heehee! Sorry, but this place was built with help from the Shadow Witch!”

As if sensing my reaction, the Puppet Master’s clone hopped off the bed and spoke in a mocking voice.

“From the moment the door closed, every room here became part of a maze. And in each room, we’ve placed one of our dummy puppets.”

With such security in place, it was no wonder the emperor could be so relaxed even against Meredia.

“Even if your little maid has her analysis eye, it won’t be enough. Her jewel eye, suited for firepower and destruction, won’t be able to find this place by morning.”

That wasn’t surprising, but when the emperor casually mentioned the “analysis eye” and “jewel eye,” I couldn’t help but frown a little.

It meant she knew not only the princess’s power, but also Parsha’s.

Just like Meredia, the emperor was no ordinary human.

“…And what if I destroy this entire place?”

“Even setting aside the high treason of trying to harm the emperor, you won’t be walking away unscathed.”

Though I tried to float the possibility as a last resort, the emperor, as expected, had already foreseen it.

“Very well. I’ve lost.”

“Hmm?”

“Then, what do you intend to do now?”

With a slightly resigned expression, I asked the question, and the emperor, narrowing her already thin eyes further, stared at me in silence.

“Are you going to kill me here?”

“…Pfft,”

Unable to endure the silence, I asked again, and the emperor finally burst into laughter and opened her mouth.

“Why would I get rid of you? That would be a tremendous loss, no matter how I look at it.”

“Then…”

As I tried to urge her to continue, I went silent the moment I saw her begin to undo the rest of the buttons she had left open.

“Sir Whitney, do you know why an emperor like me sneaks in and out of a place like this?”

“……”

“This is a rather serious matter, so listen closely.”

And so began the emperor’s one-sided tale.

“Do you know why, at this age, I’ve never been married, nor even been with anyone?”

“…I’m not sure.”

“That’s because I was born infertile.”

Realizing that resistance was futile, I listened with a hollow expression, but the unexpected truth from her lips drew my attention.

“And the reason for that lies in the ability I was born with.”

“Your ability?”

“Though the world calls it a blessing, it’s actually a mark of a cursed fate.”

As she spoke, her slitted eyes opened slightly, making me flinch—but fortunately, there was no sign of mind control.

“Did you know? Those born with the potential of the Demon King can only reproduce with each other.”

“…Ha ha.”

“Don’t ask how I found out. The story gets too dark from there.”

With half-open eyes, the emperor continued with a chillingly changed expression.

“Do you understand now why rumors say I’m gathering people with special abilities?”

“…No way.”

“Some think I’m building a corps of ability users, but they don’t know what they’re talking about.”

The more she spoke, the more the pieces in my mind began to come together.

“I’ve simply been trying to create an heir.”

Though the mental picture formed by those puzzle pieces was rather disturbing.

“The problem is that for some reason, nine out of ten people with such power are women.”

“Occasionally, a man would appear, but none of them were suitable partners for me in any sense.”

Then, to make sure I didn’t misunderstand, the emperor once again narrowed her eyes and asked me in a gentle voice.

“Do you understand now why I come to places like this?”

When I remained silent, she pouted slightly and answered her own question.

“You’re surprisingly slow on the uptake. If I happen to find a suitable partner by chance, I could even have a bastard child, couldn’t I?”

I didn’t know what kind of expression to make at that, so I just gave a bitter smile.

Then, suddenly struck by a dreadful possibility, I hastily asked the emperor.

“Then why did you purchase me?”

“Sir Whitney, let’s not play dumb.”

With a smile far more wicked than before, the emperor whispered to me.

“You too were born with the fate of the Demon King, weren’t you?”

By then, the conclusion I’d just reached became even clearer, and I started sweating cold bullets.

“If you really want to hear it from my own lips, I understand. I’ll forego the dignity of an emperor and say it plainly.”

The emperor, who had been shameless all along, now grinned from ear to ear and delivered the finishing blow.

“Here and now, shall we create the future bastard child who will one day rule the empire?”

At that moment, her upper garment, now fully unbuttoned, slipped down smoothly.

‘This was the one method I really wanted to avoid.’

And with it, I firmly resolved not to use my last resort unless absolutely necessary.

Recently, despite having returned from a northern expedition, Reinhardt was in an exceptionally good mood.

The reason was none other than the ‘Divine Power of Kalannon’ he had obtained in the north.

Even though he did not have unwavering faith, he had gained the ability to wield the power of Kalannon, the Lightning receiver.

He had acquired the very power he had longed for.

Of course, that power alone was still not enough to defeat Deus Maccalian.

No matter how much divine power he could wield now, Deus was already far ahead.

However, nothing could dampen Reinhardt’s spirits.

Because the moment he gained the ability to use divine power, he realized something.

The deeper his faith grew, the stronger this power would become.

In other words, there was room for even more growth, and that thought put him in the highest spirits.

If only there wasn’t one person who had barged into his room.

“Deus.”

“What is it?”

“What are you doing in my room?”

“I’m getting ready to sleep.”

Deus Maccalian.

The very person responsible for ruining his perfect mood was Deus.

And not just that—he had somehow brought his own bed into Reinhardt’s bedroom and was preparing to sleep.

“…Have you lost your mind?”

“I’m perfectly sane.”

“A perfectly sane person just moves their bed into someone else’s mansion without a word and decides to sleep there?”

“I believe that still falls within the range of normal behavior.”

“It’s abnormal! Completely abnormal!!!”

Deus shrugged as if he didn’t understand what the problem was.

Reinhardt, yelling at him in frustration, shut his eyes tightly as if his head was about to explode.

Ever since returning from the expedition, Deus had been copying his every move, and the stress was unbearable.

If it were just a little mimicry, Reinhardt wouldn’t have said anything.

But Deus—

He was following Reinhardt around and replicating his entire daily routine.

Waking up in the morning, praying, eating breakfast.

Training, eating lunch, praying again, and even taking a relaxed afternoon nap—he copied everything!!

And what was even more disturbing—

Whenever Reinhardt used divine power—

“……”

Deus would stare at him with a cold, expressionless gaze, as if that power should have been his.

It was constant.

Twenty-four hours a day, he stuck around, watching with a persistent look of betrayal, envy, and resentment.

It was enough stress to make his hair fall out.

“Just stop already!”

Reinhardt finally snapped and screamed, but—

“Good night.”

Deus, completely unfazed, naturally lay down on the bed.

“Kraaaahhh!!!”

Reinhardt let out a scream and seriously considered it.

Should he go to Marquis Palatio and beg?

Beg him to bestow some power on Deus as well?

The day after Rine arrived at the Palatio Marquisate—

Alon immediately prepared to leave the estate with her.

It just so happened that he was already planning to head to Colony.

The only difference this time—

“Am I really going too…?”

“You don’t want to?”

“N-no, no, no, it’s not that—it’s just, I have a lot of research to do…”

This time, Penia was joining them.

“I mean, the Dance of Connection—I wanted to observe it a bit more, and I also wanted to study the Footsteps of the Past, so, yeah… that’s all…”

Penia rolled her eyes and subtly tried to make excuses.

Originally, Alon had not intended to bring Penia along.

He had already sensed that she was somewhat uncomfortable moving with him.

And yet, he insisted on taking her.

Because he needed her to use the Footsteps of the Past.

Once a day.

With Penia there, he could use it without any problem.

This trip would allow him to focus entirely on his training with Kylrus.

“Penia.”

“Oh, of course, it’s not that I don’t want to go! I’m a very curious person, after all? I’m just worried that I might get too distracted by the trip…”

“Do you see this?”

Alon held out a gauntlet in front of Penia.

“This is—”

“If you come on this trip, I’ll lend it to you for research once it’s over. How about it?”

“…This is—”

As Penia’s face lit up with curiosity, Alon immediately activated the gauntlet.

Crackle—!

Black smoke seeped out of the gauntlet, instantly freezing the surrounding area.

At that—

“…!”

Penia, now practically in love, stared intensely at Alon—or rather, at the gauntlet in his hands.

“Wow, what is this? From the looks of it, isn’t this the same magic the Marquis used before—”

“Wait, just by infusing mana, the artifact automatically arranges the flow, converts the rules, and completes the spell all at once?”

“Oh! And more than that! The quality of the mana seems even higher than usual! The enhancement structure of the mana itself—”

Penia chattered nonstop.

“Are you a little more interested now?”

“Yes!”

In an instant, her expression shifted from “I really don’t want to go” to “I’m totally excited!”

“Alright then. Let’s go, Godfather.”

At Rine’s words, the group set off on their journey to Colony.

Inside the peaceful carriage—

Alon recalled what Rine had mentioned yesterday and asked,

“Come to think of it, didn’t you say you were going to Colony to find something?”

“Yes, that’s right, Godfather.”

“A ruin, perhaps?”

Rine nodded in response.

“Yes, Godfather. I found something interesting in a recently discovered ruin.”

“A recently discovered ruin, huh.”

Alon quickly went through several ruins in his mind.

Back when playing Psychedelia, he had obtained many useful artifacts from Colony’s ruins.

That’s why he had asked Evan to regularly gather information on newly found ruins.

Looking through the information he had gathered so far—

‘It doesn’t seem to be a ruin that appeared in Psychedelia.’

He realized that none of the recently discovered ruins were familiar.

“I see.”

Alon gave a slight nod, bringing the conversation to an end.

Rine looked up at his chest—no, his face—and smiled at him.

####

About three weeks had passed since Alon had officially left the Marquisate and embarked on his journey.

More precisely, it was the fourth day since they had entered the desert alongside the merchant caravans heading to Colony.

“A new divine authority has emerged?”

“Yes.”

For the first time in a long while, Alon encountered Kalannon.

“Hmm~”

Under a starry night where the Milky Way cascaded down, Kalannon furrowed her brows slightly in thought.

“Did you do anything special?”

“Recently, it seems there are people who have begun to revere Kalannon as the god of knights.”

“That alone wouldn’t be enough to create a new divine authority. You’re still bound by the name Kalannon, after all.”

“I can’t think of any other possibilities.”

Kalannon made a humming sound as if deep in thought, tilting her neck to the side.

She only spoke again when her neck was almost completely bent.

“Hmm—honestly, even I’m not sure.”

“Is that so?”

“Right? For a new divine authority to be born, one must be worshipped as an entirely separate god, and faith in them must accumulate. The idea that faith could emerge without any action… it just doesn’t make sense.”

“I see.”

As Alon nodded in agreement, Kalannon added,

“But it is curious. If a divine authority really has formed, then it wouldn’t just be from one or two people—it would require at least dozens, if not hundreds, of believers.”

“…Is that so?”

“Of course. For faith to gather and solidify into an authority, that much is absolutely necessary. Well, if someone with more influence than even the gods of this world devoted their faith, then even just one or two individuals might be enough to create an authority, but—”

That would be an extraordinarily irregular case.

And the likelihood of such a being offering faith to anyone was minuscule.

“I see.”

Kalannon looked at Alon with a peculiar expression and asked,

“Anyway, if you truly did nothing, then someone must have gathered this divine authority and passed it on to ‘Alon Palatio.’ Do you have any idea who that could be?”

Someone who could collect divine power and transfer it…

Alon pondered for a moment.

But no matter how much he thought about it, no one came to mind, so he simply shrugged.

“Ah, time’s up.”

“What do you mean, time’s up?”

“It’s time for me to go.”

Right on cue, Kalannon bid farewell.

“…Considering how much divine power has accumulated, this meeting felt too short.”

“Normally, I could stay longer, but I’ve got something else going on as well…!”

“Something else?”

“Yes, I’ll tell you about it next time.”

“See you later!” Kalannon waved her hand with a bright smile.

With that, Alon found himself once again in the sweltering heat of the carriage.

But then—

“Hmm?”

Despite being in the scorching desert, he felt an unexpected chill on his skin.

Looking around to assess the situation—

“Whoa—”

There, in the middle of the carriage, was Penia, having completely discarded any sense of a magician’s dignity.

She had summoned a massive block of ice and was hugging it with all four limbs.

“This is heaven.”

[Pure bliss—]

[Meow-!]

Nearby, Evan, Basiliora, and Blackie had also gathered around the ice, looking utterly content.

‘Having Penia along has really improved the quality of this journey.’

In fact, Blackie, practically Penia’s pet at this point, was perched comfortably atop her head, enjoying the cold.

Watching its face, full of happiness, reminded Alon of all the times he had suffered in the desert, drenched in sweat.

But now—

Thanks to Penia, everyone was having a much more comfortable journey.

Naturally—

‘…Maybe I should bring her along next time, too.’

The thought crossed his mind.

And perhaps sensing danger, Penia, who had been clinging blissfully to the ice, suddenly started glancing around uneasily.

Just then—

“…Every time we cross the desert, I swear it feels like I’m going to die.”

“Couldn’t agree more, Caravan Leader.”

Damuda, the leader of the Janda caravan traveling with Alon to Colony, was already exhausted under the relentless desert sun.

Then—

“…Hmm? Caravan Leader, do you see that?”

“…That?”

At the sudden question from his deputy, Damuda turned his gaze to follow where the man was pointing.

And he saw it.

A mysterious gate, hidden between the cliffs in the middle of the desert.

“…Is that a strange gate?”

“Looks like it.”

“Pass the word back. We’re changing direction.”

“But it doesn’t seem like anything is coming out of it. Shouldn’t we just continue on this path?”

“And what if something does come out?”

Realizing that they had already gotten closer to the gate than expected due to the cliffs obscuring their view, Damuda immediately issued an order.

Just as the caravan was about to veer to the right—

“Hmm—”

A man suddenly appeared at the very front of the caravan.

He wore black trousers and was shirtless, revealing a humanoid scar on his chest.

His dark gray eyes gleamed ominously.

“What the—?”

The deputy muttered in confusion at the sight of the man who had seemingly materialized out of thin air in the middle of the desert.

At the same time, the mercenaries instinctively drew their swords.

The man smirked, the corners of his mouth twisting upward.

“Finally found you—”

He murmured under his breath, raising his hand forward.

Drip.

A single black droplet formed at the tip of his index finger and fell to the ground.

Drip, drip—

More droplets followed, steadily falling.

Ordinarily, they would have been absorbed into the sand, but instead, they coalesced into rippling black waves.

“……!”

Everyone present, including Caravan Leader Damuda, watched in horror as their vision was engulfed in gray.

And they saw—

The man with cold, dark gray eyes.

And behind him—

Hundreds, no, thousands of ghastly creatures.

In that moment—

“Let the feast begin.”

The man’s voice echoed through the air.

Whoosh—!

At that very instant, the deputy’s upper body was simply erased from existence.

Simultaneously—

“A-Aaaaaaahhhh!!!”

Screams erupted in all directions.

####

“Stop! Stop!!”

“W-What the hell is that?”

“This is insane—!”

“Run for your lives!!”

Hearing the sudden commotion outside, Alon immediately stepped out of the carriage.

And he saw it.

A massive, eerie gate near the caravan.

Merchants being slaughtered in a scene more horrific than anything he had ever seen.

“…!”

For a brief moment, his face twisted at the sight of bodies being crushed and shredded by an unseen force in empty air.

Then—

‘No way.’

He quickly tried to deduce who was responsible for this.

No—there was no need to deduce.

Alon knew of only one being capable of recreating such an unnatural phenomenon.

At the same time—

He couldn’t understand.

As far as he knew— that entity was not supposed to be here.

Then why—

As he scanned his surroundings, trying to piece things together—

“Ah.”

He let out a small sigh.

Because his worst fear had been confirmed without a shred of doubt.

A man was approaching from the distance, wearing a deep, sinister smile.

He was one of the Four Great Powers.

The ruler of the ghasts that lurked in the underworld.

He was Agu (餓鬼).

Round 356

Prev | TOC | Next

Sizzle.

Somehow, the meat had already been placed on a scorching stone slab.

The Maillard reaction gave the wild boar meat a deep brown hue, making my mouth water just by looking at it. But the scent was even more incredible.

“Gulp.”

Saliva kept pooling in my mouth uncontrollably.

It was such a shame that we had to eat this all by ourselves.

‘I really want Ara and Cheong to try this too…?’

Of all times, they had to be absent while the meat was cooking.

Well, nothing I can do about it. I’ll just have to take some for them later.

Swish.

I secured the meat with a fork and sliced through the thick cut with a knife. The meat offered only slight resistance before yielding to the blade.

“So tender.”

“K-Kyu-seong. Can I eat first?”

Jung So-yeon, who had already picked up a large piece of meat with her fork, asked with a desperate look as if she couldn’t hold back anymore.

I nodded at her and focused entirely on my own meat.

It was probably medium-rare.

When I cut it, the meat juice—red like blood—soaked the glistening cross-section.

The surface clearly displayed the grain of the meat, but the inside shimmered as if it would melt the moment it touched the tongue.

Chew, chew.

Jung So-yeon had already started eating.

She kept moving her mouth but showed no reaction.

She always expressed admiration whenever she ate something delicious, but now she was completely silent.

‘Does she not like it?’

No, that couldn’t be possible, not with meat that looked this good.

I glanced at Choro.

Choro was also eating the meat silently.

At this point, curiosity got the best of me—I had to taste it myself.

I speared a thick piece of meat large enough to fill my mouth.

Stab.

The fork pierced through the tender surface effortlessly. It felt like stabbing into a piece of coated tofu.

‘Wow.’

Just look at this glistening fat.

The way the juices shone alongside the meat reaffirmed my confidence—it was impossible for this to taste bad.

“Nom.”

I put it in my mouth.

Immediately, my mouth was flooded with the rich aroma and deep umami of the meat.

Wait, isn’t this pork?

It tasted like something between pork and beef, but that wasn’t a bad thing.

It was as if it combined all the best qualities of both meats into one bite.

Pop! Pop!

I hadn’t even chewed yet, but the mere pressure inside my mouth caused the juices to burst out.

“Gulp!”

Ah, yes. This is what meat is supposed to be.

I had been eating mostly vegetables and fish for a while now.

Even when I ate out occasionally, I had stuck to a vegetarian diet for over a year.

I was satisfied with that. My crops were incredibly flavorful, and I had even discovered vegetables that tasted like meat, so I never felt deprived.

But I was mistaken.

Meat is meat.

Unlike fish, real meat had an irreplaceable, unique taste.

‘How can something be both fatty and light at the same time? What kind of paradoxical flavor is this?’

And this meat was anything but ordinary.

Choro had called it a delicacy, but that was an understatement—it was the most delicious meat I had ever eaten.

It had the richness of beef yet the tenderness of pork.

And just as Choro had mentioned, there was absolutely no unpleasant odor.

There was a scent, but it was purely the aroma of meat.

If I had to describe it, it was somewhat like aged cheese—a smell that might be divisive.

But when I took my second bite, I was shocked again.

“What the…?!”

The flavor was slightly different.

The meaty aroma was milder.

Even though it was from the same cut, the fat content, texture, and flavor were subtly different.

“So just because it’s attached to the skin doesn’t mean it’s all the same part of the meat?”

Jung So-yeon, who had been eating with a serious expression, responded to my confusion.

“This meat is… insane.”

“So-yeon, you seem to know a lot about gourmet food. You’ve probably tried all kinds of meat, right?”

“Yeah. But I’ve never had anything like this. Of course, since this is the first time I’ve encountered this monster meat, but still… I’ve eaten the famous horned ox meat in every grade, and I’ve tried almost every top-tier monster cuisine.”

As she spoke, Jung So-yeon closed her eyes.

And then, tears rolled down her cheeks.

…Huh? Tears?

Why is she suddenly crying?

“Kyu-seong, thank you.”

“Uh…?”

“Thank you so much for letting me taste something this delicious.”

“Uh, well… I mean…”

I wasn’t sure if this was something to cry about, but I had seen people get emotional over my food before, so it wasn’t completely unfamiliar.

The only difference was that I hadn’t grown this meat myself.

“This meat needs to be analyzed more thoroughly. The taste, aroma, and fat content vary depending on which part of the skin it was attached to.”

“I should take some to my brother first.”

Ideally, I wanted to bring him a fresh hide before the meat was butchered.

Looking at the remaining portions, there was still some left, but not much.

‘One hide could probably yield about five servings.’

Since only the meat attached to the skin was edible, the yield wasn’t very high—five servings at best, if scraped clean.

Fortunately, there were quite a few of them.

I had counted last time—there were 93 wild boars.

Some were still young, but all of them were going to shed their skins soon, so there wouldn’t be an issue.

“How often do they shed?”

“I’m not entirely sure, but I’d guess about once a month.”

“Ohh.”

That meant, assuming there were 90 boars, with five servings per hide…

A simple calculation gave me 450 servings of meat per month.

To be conservative, I could expect at least 400 servings every month.

Getting 400 servings of meat every day would be great, but 400 per month felt a little lacking.

Considering how many mouths we had to feed, the only solution was to raise more wild boars and increase their numbers.

After finishing our meal, we headed straight to Jae-seong’s lab—with the rabbits who had cooked the meat.

Knock, knock!

“Come in!”

Inside, we found a group of people busy working with apples.

They had just received apples as a new ingredient, and they were already moving on to the next batch for research.

“Brother! These apples are amazing! They have a strong apple aroma and taste, but the sweetness isn’t overpowering, making them perfect as a sauce, garnish, or additive!”

Jae-seong, unaware that I had brought meat, cheered excitedly.

At the same time, the others gathered around, marveling at the apples.

“You could make a drink while keeping the aroma intact!”

“What if we marinate the meat with apples? That would get rid of any gamey smell and leave a subtle apple scent in the meat!”

“It would be perfect for desserts! A dessert with lemon, and maybe a touch of whiskey…”

As their excitement grew, I cleared my throat to regain their attention.

“Ahem!”

“So, what is it this time? Are you here because of the apples?”

“No, I came with another new ingredient.”

“Another one?!”

Their expressions were priceless.

Everyone’s eyes widened in surprise.

At that moment, the rabbits with us confidently placed the meat onto the table.

Thud!

The fresh meat had a beautiful combination of white marbling and red muscle.

The moment they saw it, they all turned to me with shocked expressions.

“This is…!”

“Brother, what did you bring this time?”

Their serious faces made it seem like they were making some kind of wild assumption.

“I got this meat from the wild boars the Little humans brought. But don’t get the wrong idea. Let me explain everything.”

It would have been great if Choro had explained, but he had stayed behind in the cat village to inspect supplies for Chiyon.

So, I had to explain everything myself.

Once I finished, they finally understood and looked at the meat in awe.

“What about the hide?”

“I gave it to the cats to use as material.”

“Nothing goes to waste, huh!”

Hearing my review of the taste only fueled the chefs’ enthusiasm even more.

Meanwhile, the rabbits, who hadn’t had the chance to cook the meat, watched with envy.

-Beep!

The rabbits who had cooked the meat lifted their heads proudly, touching the meat with an air of superiority.

“It looks like the little humans will be bringing more livestock in the future. Have any of you met them in person?”

“No, we’ve only heard about them.”

“Next time, could you meet them and teach them how to cook? Their ingredients seem different from ours, so they don’t really know how to prepare them properly.”

“Oh, sure! We’ll go together and show them how to cook!”

With that, Jae-seong’s team had not only apples but also meat to research, and they eagerly dove into their work.

Seeing how happy they looked made me feel proud.

“Hmm, it’s about time…”

Quite a bit of time had passed.

Seon-ah should be getting off work and heading to the dungeon soon.

I felt a little bad about giving her work the moment she arrived, but what choice did I have? I needed her help.

“Lee Kyu-seong, Kyu-seong!”

“Oh, Ara! You’re done?”

Ara, smelling of sweet apples, ran over to me.

Then, she suddenly froze and sniffed the air.

“What is this scent?!”

“Meat.”

“Meat?!!”

She looked absolutely shocked.

Grinning, I showed her the prepared meat.

“Ta-da!”

“Oooooh! Where did this come from?!”

“You know the wild boars we brought in?”

“Gasp!”

Before I could even explain, Ara’s face turned pale, and her eyes started welling up with tears.

“Did they say their farewells…?”

“No, no! This is just the meat attached to their shed skin. Let me explain.”

Just like with Jae-seong’s group, Ara had misunderstood.

Once I explained properly, she tilted her head in confusion at first but soon nodded in understanding.

“Oooooh! That’s incredible! These pigs are just factories for making endless meat!”

“Exactly. Thanks to them, we can enjoy delicious meat now.”

…But Ara, why are you eating raw meat?

“Mmm, yum!”

Somehow, she had already started chewing on the raw meat I gave her.

Her face lit up with joy.

“This is delicious!”

“You’re supposed to cook it first!”

“Hmm? But it’s tasty as it is.”

Then, raising the remaining meat, she shouted:

“Let’s cook the rest!”

“Haha, sure, sure.”

Now that I thought about it, Cheong was nowhere to be seen.

I should check on him while also seeing how my mother’s jam and apple syrup turned out.

Leaving the meat in the kitchen, I went to find my mother.

There, I found Cheong fast asleep, his hands and mouth smeared with apple jam or syrup.

My mother smiled warmly at the sight while finishing her work.

“Are you done?”

“Yes. Since the kids helped, it was quick.”

“Let me see. Oh, wow.”

There was quite a lot—dozens of jars.

Though, at a glance, I couldn’t tell which ones were jam and which were syrup. There was a slight difference in color.

“Oh, Mom, we also secured a meat source.”

“Meat? Where from?”

“We found pigs that shed their skin, and there’s meat attached to the shed hides.”

Saying it out loud, it did sound a little strange.

But my mother just nodded, as if she wasn’t surprised.

Considering my crops were anything but normal, she must have figured the meat would be the same.

“I gave some to Jae-seong for research and saved the rest. The rabbits are grilling it now. You should try some.”

“Shall I?”

After finishing up with Jung So-yeon’s help, we headed to the open kitchen.

Just in time, the meat was ready.

“Mmm!!”

My mother and Ara immediately dug in.

Even after I washed Cheong’s face and hands, he was still asleep.

But when I placed a piece of meat in his mouth, his eyes snapped open.

“This is amazing. What kind of meat is this?”

“Wild boar.”

“This is pork?!”

Her reaction made sense.

I also had trouble distinguishing whether it was pork or beef at first.

And then—

The person I’d been waiting for finally arrived.

“What the heck! Why are you all eating meat without me?!”

Seon-ah had returned from work.

Alon, who had been silent at Kylrus’ words, slowly opened his mouth.

“The one who first spread magic.”

“As you suspect, he was the first to wield and create magic.”

“…And the technique he used was Reversal of Heaven?”

When Kylrus nodded silently, Alon continued to ask.

“I know it’s meaningless to ask since you’ve already told me, but has no one besides the first mage ever used the Reversal of Heaven technique?”

Wanting to confirm just in case, Alon asked again, and Kylrus firmly nodded.

“The Reversal of Heaven technique itself is merely a legend among mages. The first mage lived in a time long before I was human.”

“So, it has only been passed down as a story.”

“Yes. Ah, one more thing. The first mage was a bit different from ordinary mages.”

“In what way?”

In response to Alon’s question, Kylrus answered.

“After spreading magic, most mages left successors. It was inevitable.”

While knowledge was important for using magic, the most crucial thing for mages was their “image.”

Kylrus continued speaking.

“But the first mage did not create a successor. No, rather than just not creating one, he disappeared after spreading magic to other mages.”

“…He disappeared?”

“It was as if spreading magic was his sole purpose. After teaching three disciples, he vanished.”

“So that’s why you said his actions were unusual.”

Kylrus nodded.

“That’s why there’s barely any known information about the Reversal of Heaven technique. The three disciples who witnessed it are long gone, and they never left any records about the first mage.”

Muttering about a single remaining piece of information, Kylrus looked at Alon.

“If someone who possesses the Reversal of Heaven technique reaches that horizon, they may obtain a clue.”

“That means—”

“It seems you really can learn the Reversal of Heaven technique. Even though you haven’t inherited a single thing—neither image nor anything else.”

At Kylrus’ conclusion, Alon remained silent.

He still had no idea how to learn the technique.

“So, I have to use everything I’ve learned so far, huh?”

With that thought in mind, he asked another question just in case.

“Is there no other way to obtain information about the first mage?”

“If we think logically, there isn’t, but if we think optimistically, perhaps the gods know something.”

“…The gods?”

“Yes. Though, I don’t know how many of the gods who saw the first mage are still alive.”

Alon fell into contemplation at the mention of gods.

“Well then, since our conversation is over, let’s begin again.”

However, at those words, Alon snapped back to reality, forming a spell with a slightly tense expression.

Exactly five seconds later—

“…Ah.”

Alon opened his eyes in Penia’s office, his face filled with emptiness.

####

For the next two weeks, Alon did two things.

One was conducting magical research with Penia.

The other was borrowing Penia’s mana once a day to enter the realm of the past and fight Kylrus.

“Oh, you’re awake?”

“How many seconds was it?”

“Hmm, this time it was 19 seconds.”

At Penia’s report, Alon let out a deep sigh and stood up from his chair.

“…I did last longer.”

“Yes, at first, you couldn’t even last four seconds.”

Alon scratched his head as he stared at the Footsteps of the Past, now blackened from depleted mana.

‘This isn’t easy.’

From two weeks ago until now, he had tried various strategies every day, but the gap in strength between him and Kylrus remained vast.

No matter how much he strategized—

Kylrus would always unleash a new kind of attack, leading to Alon’s inevitable defeat.

‘Thanks to that, I’ve learned a lot about how to use Blackie, and I’ve gained useful insights for synchronization research…’

But he was still no closer to winning the fight.

“…I’ll come back again tomorrow.”

“Okay!”

Every day, he returned to Penia’s office.

For over two weeks, she had been enthusiastically researching the artifact he had given her.

Watching her lively face for a moment, Alon then headed to his own office.

[Now, repeat after me. I am the servant of Basiliora.]

[I… am? Servant?]

As soon as he entered the room, he was met with an unusual sight.

Basiliora was there, and in front of him, the Sea King God was shifting its body around curiously.

[Again.]

[Servant?]

Following Basiliora’s command, the Sea King God tilted its head but repeated the words.

Alon recalled how, just a while ago, the Sea King God had been swimming in the pond outside his mansion.

He turned to Basiliora and asked, “…What are you doing?”

[Hierarchy training.]

“Is that really necessary…?”

[Hierarchy training is absolutely necessary.]

Basiliora watched the Sea King God with a satisfied expression.

Just then—

“My Lord, I was looking for you… What the hell are you doing?”

Evan entered the office and immediately spotted Basiliora and the Sea King God.

[Hehehe~]

Basiliora, now brimming with confidence, commanded:

[Now, King Serpent, go teach that guy a lesson!]

[Teach… a lesson?]

[That’s right! You’re my servant, so you have to listen to me! Expand your body a little and attack him!!]

As if he had been waiting for this moment, Basiliora stretched his body proudly and issued the order.

The Sea King God tilted its head a few times before nodding in understanding.

Ssssss—

It then expanded its body to the size of a large serpent.

At that sight—

“…So that’s what you’ve been doing in the garden pond these past few days.”

[It’s too late for regrets! Now you’ll feel my power firsthand!!]

Evan glanced at Basiliora with an unimpressed expression.

But instead of backing down, Basiliora laughed triumphantly.

Then—

Evan let out a small chuckle and said, “Hey, King Serpent, come here.”

He took some jerky from his pocket and waved it in the air.

The Sea King God, which had been moving slowly toward Evan, suddenly—

[······!]

It zipped right up to Evan’s face, staring at him with sparkling eyes.

[Huh? What is this—]

Basiliora was caught off guard by the unexpected situation.

But—

“You want this?”

Nod, nod, nod, nod!

“Then go teach him a lesson first.”

Nod, nod!!

The Sea King God instantly changed its target and charged toward Basiliora.

[!? W-What?! Wait a minute!! King Serpent! You are my servant! So why are you attacking me—Kraaaah!! You bastard, attack that dimwit over there, not me—Kraaaaaaaaah!!!]

Basiliora, caught in his own trick, was squeezed by the Sea King God and let out a series of agonized wails—”Agyagyaaaaagh~!!!”

Alon, watching the situation unfold in silence, asked, “What’s with ‘King Serpent’?”

“The servants have already been feeding it and decided to call it ‘King Serpent.’”

“…King Serpent?”

“Yes. It apparently follows people around quite well. It likes being petted and also enjoys jerky, so I had some with me to give it sometime… but I didn’t expect to use it like this.”

So that was how the Sea King God ended up with a nickname.

[Kraaaah!! Spare me!!!! Save me~!!]

…With Basiliora’s screams as background noise.

Soon, Basiliora went limp.

Having completed its mission, King Serpent was happily munching on jerky in Evan’s arms.

‘At this point, it’s not even the Sea King God, just a big puppy.’

As Alon was having that thought, Evan, still petting King Serpent’s head, spoke.

“By the way, Lord Marquis, you mentioned going to Colony before. Shouldn’t you be leaving soon?”

“I should.”

“Then shall we start preparing?”

“…Let’s set off in about three days.”

Alon replied while recalling the gemstone he had in his possession.

‘Now that I think about it, the Dragonkin seemed like an ancient deity too. Maybe I should ask them?’

Recalling the information Kylrus had provided, Alon stroked his chin and made a decision.

The next day.

“Hello, Godfather.”

“…?”

Rine had arrived at House Palatio.

“Yes, Godfather. I just stopped by on my way to Colony.”

“By the way, what are you looking at?”

“Oh, I just felt like there was something I hadn’t noticed before.”

Strangely, instead of looking at Alon’s face, her eyes were fixed on the red brooch on his chest—a gift from Yutia.

She quietly smiled.

####

Just a few months ago, the city-kingdom of Varnos had been a thriving nation.

But now, it was nothing more than desolation.

The once lush green forests—

Had turned into barren wastelands where no life could survive.

The once bustling city—

Now held only remnants, mere traces of human existence.

And on that cracked and withered land—

Step, step—

A man walked forward.

Clad in black holy robes, with clinking black ornaments hanging from his waist and hands.

He walked alone through the lifeless wasteland.

Eventually, he reached what was once the capital of Varnos, now little more than ruins barely recognizable as a castle.

And there—

“Well, look who we have here.”

A new man appeared.

With ash-gray eyes—

The very man who had single-handedly destroyed the Duchy of Varnos and taken control of this place.

A monster (鬼).

“It’s been a while.”

At the greeting from the man in black holy robes, the grinning member of the Four Great Powers—Agu—replied from the crumbling castle stairs.

“Yeah, it has been a while.”

“Judging by the state of things, it seems you’ve settled in nicely.”

At the remark from the man in black, Agu chuckled and nodded.

“Yeah, thanks to you. Though it was a bit tricky at first—”

Then, Agu created a black droplet on his fingertip and let it fall to the ground.

As it rippled outward—

The black waves rapidly spread across the desolate land, covering it in dark gray.

And with that—

|-!!!!

What had moments ago been an empty, ruined capital—

Now revealed its true residents.

Grotesque figures, neither entirely humanoid nor stable in shape, emerged from the shadows.

They wandered the city, screaming eerily.

“Well, as you can see, I’ve got a good handle on them now.”

Then—

Saaa—

The black ripples vanished, closing off the hidden world once more.

Watching it all unfold, the man in black holy robes murmured quietly.

“…So, you’ve even implanted traits into your minions.”

“Correct. Anyway—”

Agu grinned again.

“The fact that you came all this way means you have something to say, right?”

“You know me well.”

“You gave me this power, so I’m willing to listen. Honestly, I never expected to be able to devour ‘Greed’ either.”

Agu chuckled, clearly pleased, as if recalling an unexpected victory.

The man in black watched him briefly before speaking again.

“This is a request—but also for your own good.”

“For my own good?”

“You may have succeeded in absorbing it, but you haven’t fully mastered its power yet. Am I wrong?”

“You’re right.”

“So, I’ll teach you how to control it properly.”

At those words, Agu narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing the man before him.

“You know, I’ve been wondering.”

“What is it?”

“Why are you helping me? We had no prior connection.”

It had always puzzled him.

Why was this man assisting him so much?

At Agu’s question, the man in black holy robes fell silent for a moment.

“Helping you… Well, I suppose you could see it that way.”

He muttered quietly before chuckling.

“It’s simple. Helping you is quite important to me.”

Then, the man turned away.

“A strange gate will open in the desert. Go there.”

“…What’s there?”

“Rather than something being there… something will come.”

His last murmur—

‘The body of Greed’—never reached Agu’s ears.

With a quiet smile, the man in black holy robes walked away once more.

Round 355

Prev | TOC | Next

-Bawk bawk bawk bawk.

The awakened chicken was placed with the boar that had been brought in earlier.

I was a bit worried about whether they would get along, but I confirmed that they were fine together.

-Bawk bawk bawk?

“Will this one lay eggs too?”

Of course, it will.

I’m curious about their eggs as well.

“Have you ever seen a monster like this before?”

“No, this is my first time seeing one.”

I asked Jung So-yeon, an expert in monsters and dungeons, but even she didn’t know about this chicken.

The total number was twenty-five.

These creatures had invaded twice, and another three had come separately.

“I’ve brought them!”

Hearing Choro’s voice from behind, I immediately went toward the portal to check.

The second monster that appeared was a small dog.

‘Ah, to the little humans, it must look like a giant dog.’

Compared to slimes, the little humans were slightly smaller.

The dog-like monster that had been brought in was about the same size as a slime.

“They’re incredibly quick. And their intelligence is no joke—I’ve been outsmarted by them more than once.”

The dogs, paralyzed, lay with their tongues hanging out.

Their coarse black fur made them look like wolf pups.

After a little while, the paralysis seemed to wear off, and they began twitching.

‘Oh?’

But looking closer, it seemed like they were already free from paralysis and were just pretending.

I took out a dog chew in front of the largest one—though it was only about the size of a Maltese.

I could see its nose twitch as it caught the scent of the treat.

“If you don’t get up, I’ll eat it myself.”

I didn’t expect them to understand me.

But without realizing it, I mumbled and pretended to bite into the chew.

-Whimper.

Noticing that I was going to eat the treat, the dogs hesitated but began getting up one by one.

Now that I looked at them closely, they were so thin that their ribs were visible.

‘Did they lose in a competition for food?’

The fact that they had come to the little humans’ castle despite the lack of food here suggested that was the case.

“How long are you going to keep pretending to be paralyzed?”

After finishing one dog chew, I took out three more.

The scent became even stronger.

-Whimper.

Finally, the smallest one couldn’t resist any longer, slowly opened its eyes, tucked its tail between its legs, and stood up.

Jung So-yeon, who had been watching, sighed in pity at the sight.

“Here, eat this.”

The dog, half wary and half frightened, was too hesitant to approach, so I tossed the treat to it.

It quickly grabbed the chew from the ground and started munching.

Chomp chomp chomp.

It ate so eagerly.

As I watched the chew disappear in an instant, I threw another one.

By then, the other two dogs began watching carefully and started getting up as well.

“You two eat too.”

I took out more chews and tossed them toward the dogs.

They moved swiftly to grab the treats and eat them.

Despite their short and stocky build, they were incredibly agile.

“How about raising them as herding dogs?”

“Oh, that’s a great idea.”

There were no sheep, but there were boars and chickens.

If they could be domesticated, they would be great for managing the livestock.

‘If the little humans keep bringing more like this…’

“Aww, how cute.”

As I was lost in thought, I heard laughter.

When I checked, Jung So-yeon was already petting the dogs.

One was lying on its back, showing its belly and playing around.

Another was excitedly running around.

The last one, still hungry, was staring at me intently.

These creatures were more sociable than I expected.

After handing Jung So-yeon some treats to feed them, I asked Choro,

“They seem to follow people well. Have you never tried taming them before?”

“The tough-maned ones never follow humans. They tend to ignore anyone who looks weaker than them.”

“Huh? Then what’s this?”

“I’ve never seen this before either! As expected of you, my lord!”

Oh, is that so?

They just looked like ordinary puppies to me.

Honestly, even Earth’s wolves would probably be stronger than these monsters.

“Ah, Choro, I have another question.”

“Please, ask me anything.”

“Does your village have any records or information on local monsters?”

“Ah, we used to, but I believe they’re lost now.”

Choro responded with a troubled expression.

Well, given that they didn’t even have proper equipment, it wouldn’t be surprising if they had lost such records.

I was only asking because I wanted to know if there were more livestock-type monsters.

“Did your people ever raise livestock?”

“We did. But they were distinctly different from monsters. Monsters, by definition, contain mana stones within their bodies. They are fundamentally different from regular animals.”

“That  makes sense.”

As Choro said, the biggest distinction between beasts and monsters was the presence of mana stones.

Monsters had mana stones within them.

This allowed them to use mana, granting them powerful physiques and various supernatural abilities.

“Even the tough-maned ones use an ability called Howling. They utilize sound to manifest different effects.”

“Oh, really?”

“Yes. For example, they can cause confusion, dizziness, and nausea—or even the opposite effects.”

“Whoa.”

These creatures were more impressive than I thought.

Choro also explained that the boars had hard armor, while the chickens could charge while engulfed in flames.

“They get covered in fire?”

“Yes. But they rarely use it because it also harms them.”

What a strange bunch.

“Sit, lie down, roll over, high five!”

While we were talking, Jung So-yeon had somehow already trained all the dogs.

When did she even teach them all that?

As Choro had mentioned, they were exceptionally smart.

The fact that they could learn tricks in such a short time proved it.

Taking the three dogs with me, I headed back to the pasture where the livestock were kept.

The boars that had arrived first seemed to have grown accustomed to the place.

They quietly alternated between eating and sleeping without any aggression.

“It must be because this place is peaceful. Where we live, they have to compete for food and deal with predators.”

Choro marveled as he explained that this was not how they usually behaved.

“Still, who would have thought you could tame those fearsome fangs? As expected of you, my lord.”

“Huh? Nah, I think they just like the food we give them.”

The food given to the boars was the leftover produce from farming.

Thinned-out sprouts, wilted crops after all nutrients had been used, hay left after rice harvesting.

Of course, other low-market-value crops were also mixed in.

And the boars went absolutely crazy for it.

‘After that, they became much tamer.’

Once they tasted delicious food, the boars became noticeably calmer.

Of course, part of it was thanks to Ras giving them a solid lesson with his fists.

“Huh?”

As I was thinking of trying to train the dogs as fence-guarding herding dogs, something unusual caught my eye.

Jung So-yeon seemed to have noticed it too, as she tilted her head and narrowed her eyes.

“What is that?”

Choro provided the answer.

“Oh! That’s the shed skin of the Fearsome Fangs!”

“Shed skin?”

Shed skin?

Do boars even shed their skin?

Both Jung So-yeon and I tilted our heads in confusion, and Choro mimicked us, looking puzzled.

“Why are you reacting like that?”

“I mean, isn’t it weird for a pig to shed its skin?”

“Ah! I suppose that’s not common in your world!”

From what Choro said, shedding skin seemed to be a normal occurrence in their world.

“The Fearsome Fangs periodically shed their skin. Their hardened outer layer, reinforced by mana, becomes too tight for their growing bodies.”

“Ah-ha!”

So it’s like lobsters or crayfish?

It reminded me of crustaceans that molt their hard shells to grow bigger.

“But it’s actually very rare to see this shed skin.”

“Really? Why?”

“During the molting process, the Fearsome Fangs are extremely vulnerable, so they find the safest place possible to shed. And such places are usually difficult for humans to find.”

“Ah, that makes sense. But if it shed its skin here, does that mean it feels safe?”

“It seems so. But it’s still surprising. I never thought it would shed in such an open area.”

Choro’s eyes sparkled in amazement.

“This shed skin is an incredible delicacy! I’ve only had it twice in my life. I never expected to see it here like this.”

“A delicacy?”

“Yes! Inside that hard shell, there’s meat attached to it. Once they reach a certain size, they maintain a stable form, which is a characteristic of the Fearsome Fangs.”

“Whoa! There’s meat attached?”

That means—!

We don’t have to butcher them to get meat?

All we have to do is collect the shed skins whenever they molt!

This is such a convenient and humane way to obtain meat!

We immediately retrieved the shed skin.

The boars cautiously moved away as we approached, but they didn’t seem overly wary.

It seemed they had gotten used to us since we fed them daily.

“So this is the shed skin, huh?”

At a glance, it looked like a hardened pig-shaped shell.

It was about the size of a medium-sized dog.

The back was split open—probably where the boar had crawled out.

When I peeled open the cracked back, just as Choro said, there was fresh-looking meat attached inside.

“Is there a specific way to prepare or process this?”

“There is, but it doesn’t require much effort.

When you hunt Fearsome Boars normally, their meat has a strong gamey and fishy taste, making it difficult to eat.

But this shed skin meat has no unpleasant odor—it’s a top-tier cut of meat.”

“Wow, that’s amazing.”

Now this really makes me want to raise them as livestock.

And since we had also brought chickens this time, I was curious about their eggs as well.

I’ll have to ask Choro about that later.

But for now, tasting the meat took priority.

Since Choro had eaten it before, he personally started peeling the meat from the shed skin.

‘But wait… is he really using that sword like that?’

The knife he was using to peel the meat was a warrior’s blade.

Something about that felt weird.

But Choro was skillful, expertly separating the meat like a seasoned professional.

After meticulously preparing the meat, he cut it into easy-to-eat portions.

“Rabbits!”

Nearby, some rabbits had already caught the scent of the meat and were waiting.

When I handed it to them, they immediately took it and started chirping excitedly, discussing how they would cook it.

“This shell is also a great material. The Fearsome Fangs reinforce it with mana, making it extremely tough. We usually use it to craft armor.”

“Oh, it’s light but sturdy. This is great!”

The leftover shell seemed quite useful as well.

While the rabbits were cooking, I took the shell to the cats.

They examined the material with serious expressions.

-Meow!!

-Nyan nyan nyan nyan.

They quickly launched into an intense discussion.

Even though they were serious, they looked so ridiculously cute that we just stood there watching them.

-Nyan!

Eventually, one cat stepped forward as their representative, pointed at the shell, and gave a big thumbs-up.

“Oh, so it’s a good material?”

-Nyan nyan!

The cat nodded.

Then, they all scurried off, eager to start crafting something with the shell.

“There’s nothing going to waste here.”

“True. Oh, and the livestock manure could be used as fertilizer.”

“Oh! I hadn’t thought of that, but that’s a great idea.”

Hmm, I should assign some workers to manage the livestock.

Goblins would probably be the best choice—I’ll have to gather the Seven Sins and discuss it.

Sniff sniff.

Suddenly, an incredible aroma of cooked meat wafted through the air.

The mouthwatering scent of grilled meat made my stomach growl.

“Wow, this smells insane! My mouth is watering just from the scent.”

“Let’s go check it out right now!”

Before Jung So-yeon even finished her sentence, she was already heading toward the rabbits’ cooking area.

Choro and I hurriedly followed.

Finally, our dungeon was getting a steady supply of meat!
