Martial 24

“Cough, cough. What’s going on?”

Arid, who had been dealing with the approaching Lizardmen while the mages prepared their spells, coughed. He saw Eugene leap down among the Lizardmen from a tree, and then suddenly, there was a tremendous burst of flames.

Boom!

“Be careful.”

The members of the 5th team quickly assumed defensive positions at the sudden loud noise.

“Team 5!”

“Huh?! That’s… the chief’s voice.”

Aaron turned around to see Deiker running into the test site.

The explosion they heard earlier was the sound of Deiker and the deans entering the site.

“Is everyone safe?”

“A few are injured, but we’re all alive.”

Arid quickly reported their situation. More Lizardmen than expected had swarmed them, resulting in some injuries among the students, but fortunately, no one had died.

“Where is Eugene Bedia?”

“Ah, the dean…”

The team members were startled to see the dean.

“Did he die?”

“No, he’s over there…”

Aaron pointed to the distant thick fog.

Whoosh.

Hobin Jessup waved his staff, dispelling the fog with a wordless spell.

“Leader!”

“Huh…?”

Hobin chuckled in disbelief at what he saw within the cleared fog.

Crackle, crackle.

‘Phew…’

Eugene was standing with his sword as a support, barely managing to stay upright among the blackened corpses of Lizardmen, with embers still flickering around.

“Leader!”

The team members, having dealt with the remaining Lizardmen, quickly ran towards Eugene.

As they got closer, they were speechless at the hellish scene. The numerous Lizardmen were nearly melted, the trees were all burned, and the heat around Eugene was so intense it was difficult to breathe, as if they were near lava. Steam was rising from Eugene’s body.

“Cough, leader… are you okay?”

Thud.

“Leader!”

“Take care… of the rest…”

Only after seeing his unharmed teammates, Deiker, and the deans, did Eugene’s strength give out and he collapsed. Although some Lizardmen were still left, Eugene fainted, reassured by the presence of others.

***

‘Where am I?’

Eugene, who had fainted during the test, slowly opened his eyes. The ceiling didn’t look like it belonged to the test site.

“You’re awake?”

“Where am I?”

Taeje, who had been lying down, spoke to Eugene as he regained consciousness.

“The medical… room? Ugh, the infirmary.”

“Oh…”

At Taeje’s words, Eugene realized where he was. The academy had an infirmary for injured students, but this was his first time being there.

“How long was I unconscious?”

“You? You were out for two full days.”

“Tsk.”

Eugene clicked his tongue at Taeje’s response. He felt pathetic for having been unconscious for two days just from overexerting himself.

“Lying down for two days just for that… pathetic.”

“I know, so can you be quiet?”

Eugene glared at Taeje, who was teasing him. As if he wasn’t already embarrassed enough, Taeje had to rub it in.

‘Well… it was really dangerous.’

If a third of the Lizardmen hadn’t turned towards his teammates, Eugene might have died on the spot. If he were at a 4-star level instead of 5-star, his martial arts wouldn’t have been enough to handle the Lizardmen.

‘Sure enough, the Heaven’s Killing God Technique doesn’t show its true power at lower levels.’

Forcing himself to repeatedly use the Heaven’s Killing God Technique (天殺神功) despite his inadequate level had strained his body and diminished the effectiveness of his martial arts.

Creak.

“Oh, you’re finally awake? I was worried you wouldn’t wake up.”

“Who are you?”

While Eugene was having a conversation with Taeje, a woman with green hair entered the infirmary.

“Me? I’m Mary Pofman, the owner here and the one who took care of you.”

“Oh, hello.”

Eugene bowed his head to greet the medical supervisor.

“Let’s see….”

Clang.

Rustle, rustle.

“Fortunately, there’s nothing major wrong.”

“…You’re a witch, aren’t you?”

Eugene’s eyes sparkled as he watched Mary Pofman use her peculiar magic.

In Seifran, there were beings known as witches, situated somewhere between wizards and alchemists.

The techniques witches used to wield magic were quite different from those of wizards.

“Isn’t it fascinating?”

“No, not really.”

“Oh, really? Most people find witches fascinating.”

This was understandable since witches were much rarer than wizards or alchemists.

There were only about 2,000 to 3,000 witches left in the world.

“By the way, do you know how I did on the test?”

With his name tag labeled as Group 5 pinned to his chest, and Mary Pofman being a supervisor, he thought she might have heard about the test results.

“Hmm… I think it would be best if you find out for yourself.”

Eugene tilted his head at Mary Pofman’s response.

“Now, if you’re feeling better, go have some lunch. It’s lunchtime.”

“Oh, okay.”

Eugene got out of bed, put on his shoes, and left the infirmary.

Creak.

“Oh? It’s Eugene Bedia.”

“It’s really him! He’s really fine?”

“Unbelievable…”

When other students recognized him, Eugene tilted his head in confusion.

“Leader!”

When Eugene entered the dining hall, the members of Group 5 ran to him with bright faces.

Murmur, murmur.

“Why does it feel like I’m a monkey?”

Why were the students murmuring and looking at him as soon as he entered the dining hall?

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah, but what about the test?”

Waving off the concern from Rohen, Eugene immediately asked about the test results.

After all the hardship he went through, could he have possibly failed?

Before he passed out, he had seen Deiker and the deans rush into the test area.

“Of course, you passed the test. You even received a reward!”

Rohen, excited like a child, jumped up and down.

“A reward?”

“Yeah. They said something went wrong, and the Space Ball malfunctioned.”

“That makes sense.”

Otherwise, there wouldn’t have been 50 lizardmen appearing when there were supposed to be only 18-20.

“So, as a reward, we got a vacation!”

“A vacation?”

Why a vacation all of a sudden?

He didn’t come to the academy to work, so why a vacation?

“Well…”

Thump.

“But first, our leader should eat.”

“Oh… I didn’t think of that. Eugene, hurry up and eat.”

Grabbing the excited Rohen by the shoulders, Aaron calmed him down.

They were grateful to Eugene, but he needed to eat first.

“More importantly, why is everyone staring at me?”

Eugene wondered why students were still looking at him as he sat down with his meal.

“It’s because your feat has become a legend in the entire academy.”

Ken shrugged, complimenting Eugene.

For a mere first-year student to nearly defeat 50 lizardmen was indeed something worth talking about.

Thanks to Eugene, everyone had survived a deadly incident.

“Did you guys spread the rumor?”

“No way.”

His team members shook their heads at Eugene’s question.

“The other students saw us taking the test.”

“How could other students watch our test?”

Eugene tilted his head at Rohen’s explanation.

In the original testing grounds, it was impossible to know what was happening inside while other groups were taking their tests.

But now, other students were watching them?

“When the last group is taking their test, they show the inside through a magic video.”

“Oh…?”

Eugene finally understood and nodded.

Since Group 5 was the last to take the test, the academy allowed other students to watch their test through a magic video.

By watching this video, students who had previously taken the test could see how other groups fought and understand what mistakes they had made.

“So the students who saw your performance are now looking at you with amazement.”

“Haha…”

Eugene forced an awkward smile.

He felt a mixture of pride and embarrassment.

“What do you mean by our vacation?”

“Oh… We almost died in this test before we could even make a move because of the malfunctioning Space Ball.”

“Yeah.”

“That’s why the academy is giving us a 10-day vacation as an apology.”

“Oh…?”

Eugene’s eyes sparkled at his teammates’ words.

Once students entered the academy, they usually couldn’t leave unless it was a special circumstance.

Of course, they could leave temporarily if their family head summoned them or if they had to take on a mission, but typically, first-year students couldn’t leave the academy for several months.

But now, Group 5 was getting a special vacation despite not being in such a situation.

“This is the first time I’ve seen our leader this happy.”

“Oh… well, I was feeling a bit suffocated.”

Eugene managed his expression and played off the situation.

Why was he so happy?

Because he could go out and find the ingredients needed to make an elixir.

Step, step.

“Eugene Bedia.”

“Teacher.”

As Eugene was chatting with his teammates in the excited atmosphere, Deiker approached him.

“The deans are looking for you.”

“Yes, I’ll go right away.”

Creak.

Eugene, who had already finished his meal, got up immediately.

Knock, knock.

“Come in.”

Creak.

***

“Deans. I’ve brought student Eugene Bedia.”

“Come closer.”

Hobin, who was in the dean’s office, called Eugene over with a gentle voice.

“Are you feeling okay?”

“Yes, I’m fine.”

“Good, that’s a relief…”

After a brief conversation, Hobin fell silent, and the dean’s office was enveloped in stillness.

“Hobin.”

“……”

As the silence continued, another dean, Terron, called out to Hobin.

“I’ve misunderstood you all this time.”

Eugene listened quietly to Hobin’s words.

“When you first said you wanted to become a magic swordsman, I thought you were just following a childish dream because it looked cool. But…”

Hobin’s voice became more firm.

“You have shown me clearly that the path you chose is not the wrong one. I’m sorry for misunderstanding you.”

Hobin abandoned his dignity as a dean and bowed his head to Eugene, offering his apology.

Hobin had made Eugene’s training difficult and demanding, and he was expressing his regret for that.

“From now on, I, Hobin Jessup, acknowledge Eugene Bedia’s pursuit of becoming a magic swordsman and will fully support it.”

“Thank you.”

Eugene bowed his head in gratitude at Hobin’s words.

With the academy dean supporting his path to becoming a magic swordsman, Eugene could now receive proper training like the other students.

No longer would he be confined to that strange training room with just a sparring arena.

Of course, he would still be the only student pursuing magic swordsmanship, but it felt good to be recognized as part of the regular curriculum.

“As you might have heard from your teammates, both your Group 5 and the female Group 3 will have a celebration and then receive a 10-day vacation. So, take a good rest during those 10 days.”

“Thank you… Huh?”

Eugene smiled but then felt something odd and tilted his head.

“Female Group 3? Why…?”

“Didn’t Deiker tell you? Before Deiker and I arrived at the testing grounds, it was Sophia from Group 3 who broke the space magic barrier around the test area. Thanks to Sophia creating a crack in the space magic, we could enter the test grounds more quickly.”

“Oh…”

While Hobin spoke proudly about Sophia, Eugene’s expression changed to one of confusion.

Act 88

Prev I TOC I Next

To be honest, the endeavor that the Fourth Prince, Ulysses, is undertaking is something that one would not be surprised if he were afraid and postponed due to fear.

He has already faced life-threatening dangers from demons and has sustained injuries as well.

For an ordinary person, it would be natural to lose heart time and again and give up on the grand goal of departing for the Holy Kingdom.

“It seems fortunate that Fernand is not too far away. If the weather had been bad, it would have taken much longer,” he said.

However, Ulysses made a decision even before a day had passed.

After all, above the Fourth Prince, there are three older brothers in the line of succession.

Moreover, in the empire, the nobility of blood is more important than gender, so his four sisters also rank above him in the order of succession.

‘A prince who, no matter how hard he tries, cannot become emperor.’

It seems he made a quick decision, which is sensible.

By creating his own merits, he might climb to a more advantageous position later.

Who knows? Maybe with the help of Dawn Society or some other external forces, his brothers and sisters might disappear altogether.

I chuckled at such an absurd thought.

But that aside…

“…how shabby.”

This carriage in the procession heading to the Holy Kingdom! Despite a prince being inside, its appearance is embarrassingly plain to describe.

There are only two carriages.

They are not being pulled by eight handsome horses, nor are they resplendent with glittering gold.

They look a little better than the usual carriages you might see in any village but are not particularly notable.

The prince and his attendants are sharing them.

The prince’s carriage and the one for his attendants. That’s how it is.

Originally, it was planned to assign people, including guards, from the border city of Berniden, but Ulysses firmly refused.

-‘I don’t know where Dawn Society might be hiding, so I want to bring only those I know personally.’

I thought it was a valid reason, considering what had happened on the train.

Phuhihing!

“Ugh.”

As I was riding and guarding the surroundings of the carriage, I turned my head at a strange noise.

There, I saw Linne holding the reins of the horse she was riding, looking very awkward.

“Seems like the Sword Saint didn’t teach you how to ride. You look as lacking as your aura,” I remarked.

“It’s because it’s not the horse I usually ride! Uh!”

In response to my teasing remark, Linne bristled, nearly falling off to the side before she managed to grab the reins and regain her balance. It’s because it’s not the horse she usually rides. Watching this, I decided unspokenly, without her knowing, that she simply didn’t know how to ride.

“It’s a shame. If the railway extended to the Holy Kingdom, it wouldn’t have been so difficult. Haha.” Naturally, the resonating trains of the empire do not extend to the Holy Kingdom. The empire isn’t lenient enough to accommodate an enemy nation. Even if it did connect, whether she could have taken it remains uncertain.

“Don’t treat me like a fool! It’s just that this horse has a bad temper………… hic! That’s all. Just a little… ouch!” Frustrated, Linne once again adjusted her position in the saddle and tensed her thighs, but the horse bucked, rejecting her.

‘It seems like the horse had an expression that said, “How dare you try to ride me?” It must be my imagination.

If it’s this difficult, she might as well ride in the carriage… Ah, but being with the prince might be even more uncomfortable. I applaud her effort to avoid uncomfortable situations and decided to offer her a few tips. Of course, these are not from my own experience but from ‘Julian’s’ experience, but well, I can take the credit.

“Trying to overpower it with force is why it dislikes you.”

“I know that much………… eek!” Despite my advice, Linne tried to handle the horse in her own way, but alas, that won’t work.

“It seems you don’t know. First, get your posture right. Align your shoulders, hips, and heels in a straight line.” When people first try to assume the correct posture, they often fail to balance properly and end up tumbling forward. Moreover, it’s a bit of an embarrassing position.

Linne glared at me with half-open eyes, as if checking whether I was making fun of her. If she dislikes it so much, she shouldn’t do it.

Just as I was about to move past the advice, Linne changed her posture as I had instructed.

“And then?” With a sulky face, she reluctantly accepted my advice. Her expression was like that of a child who doesn’t want to do something but has no choice.

I couldn’t help but smile inwardly, but there was still work to do. “Focus on your hips, not your thighs.” After taking a deep breath, Linne promptly took action. Although she had only heard a few words from me about riding, Linne began to adapt to horseback riding quite easily.

“Like this?” Usually, her face was stoic, but her eyes now exuded confidence. Clearly, her innate physical abilities were not to be underestimated.

“At first, I didn’t understand what you were saying, but definitely… relaxing made it much easier to hold the reins.”

“That’s good.”

“Julian, who taught you how to ride a horse?”

I don’t know either. I just became able to ride naturally after I became this body.

“I haven’t learned from anyone.”

That’s not just about riding horses.

Nor about using a sword.

Or managing mana.

It’s all just that my body ‘remembers’ from when I became ‘Julian.’

Of course, there were some trials and errors.

“How come you ride so well then?”

If it were ‘Julian’ here, he wouldn’t give a foolish answer like ‘I don’t know.’

“That’s the difference between you and me.”

Linne, as expected, ignored me with a look and focused on her riding.

Then, the window of the carriage Ulysses was in opened, and his face appeared briefly.

“We should see the border of the Holy Kingdom soon.”

“Yes, it seems so.”

“Before that, we were supposed to meet some people sent by the Sword Saint from the Holy Kingdom, haven’t they shown up yet?”

As Ulysses said, I looked far off into the distance at the ridge.

“It seems they haven’t arrived yet.”

“Ah, is that so? But Miss Linne, have you ever been to the Holy Kingdom of Fernand?”

Ulysses awkwardly changed the subject.

“No, this is my first time.”

“Is that so? I’ve been there, but when I was young. According to my nanny, I went there to be baptized. I don’t remember it though.”

The ‘baptism’ he was going to receive now had a different meaning than the one he mentioned.

It was just a formal announcement of being born.

What he was going to receive now was an official baptism, proof of being converted to the religion of the Sun God.

Ulysses, smiling slightly, then turned his gaze to me.

“Julian, you’ve been to the Holy Kingdom quite recently, right?”

‘News to me?’

Instantly, the thought ‘When did I?’ rose to my lips, but I barely held it back.

Seeing how confident he was in his statement, there must have been some incident before.

Thinking this, I nodded affirmatively.

“Haha, yes.”

“Exactly! How was the Holy Kingdom? I heard that the capital of the Holy Kingdom is as sophisticated as our own!”

Ulysses looked at me expectantly.

Slyly glancing aside, Linne also said nothing, but it seemed she was waiting for my response.

No, I haven’t been there either!

“Large windows, thin yet numerous pillars, and the use of marble to create a devout pure white style were enough to impress even an art lover like myself.”

Well, how long did I play ‘Let’s Kill the Demon Lord’?

Based on what I saw on the screen, I could vaguely describe it as my own experience.

“Listening to you, Julian, makes me want to see it soon too. Ah! How was the food?”

Give me a break.

“Your Highness Ulysses, there are people ahead. It seems they are from the Holy Kingdom as you mentioned earlier.”

Just as Linne spoke, fortunately, I did not have to describe the food.

Taste doesn’t come out in the game anyway.

Relieved, I looked forward, and from a distance, I could see something standing still.

As if they were waiting for us.

***

Upon reaching the ridge, the attire of the personnel sent from the Holy Kingdom could be clearly identified.

Their ceremonial clothes were made of neat white and blue fabrics, adorned with jewels. Though not elaborately decorated, there was an inexplicable sense of reverence in their appearance.

Among them, one man who was leading a horse stood out. Unlike the others, he was dressed in armor rather than ceremonial clothes.

With a pure white scabbard at his waist and an air that spoke of deep proficiency in swordsmanship, it was evident he was well-versed in the martial arts.

“You must have had a hard journey getting here. I am Prasion, belonging to the White Night Order of the Holy Kingdom. Prince Ulysses de Adratan of the Adratan Empire.”

“Yes, it has been quite the journey.”

“Ha, but it seems you will need to endure a bit more. The road ahead might be quite arduous,” he said, glancing at me.

“I thought the escort for the prince of the Empire would be modest, but it seems that’s not the case.”

The man spoke as if he had seen something he shouldn’t have, and his tone carried an air of displeasure, suggesting he knew who I was.

“The Smiling Executioner, I didn’t expect to see you here. Are you foolish or just shameless?”

With a sharp critique, the man acknowledged me as if he knew me.

Truly, it’s surprising how recognizable I am, even in a foreign nation.

“Are you sure you’re okay? There are those in the Empire who shudder at your nickname, ‘The Smiling Executioner,’ and wish to exact revenge.”

With a smirk, the man sent a veiled warning my way, but I responded nonchalantly.

“Thank you for your concern, but I don’t believe there’s ‘something’ here that could threaten my life. Haha.”

Clank!

As I rattled my scabbard, Prasion and the others behind him flinched.

“Don’t be nervous. I am merely the captain of the guard accompanying the prince.”

With that, I took control of the situation.

There was no need for such measures, as I was confident that nothing would jeopardize my safety.

After a long war and a ceasefire, the Empire and the Holy Kingdom still harbored residual bitterness toward each other.

Despite this, it would be no exaggeration to say that the Holy Kingdom was seeking peace with the Empire.

Specifically, a peace founded on ‘religion.’

Their underlying strategy is to spread the ‘Sun God Religion’ widely within the Empire. It would be foolish to interfere with Ulysses and his diplomatic entourage, considering they are part of such a grand plan.

‘The problem is, now that this guy has arrived, I need to figure out what his agenda is.’

I took another look at the man in front of me.

The Holy Kingdom of Fernand, like the Empire, has a special force that resembles a religious-military fusion, reflecting its policy of merging church and state.

Their name is the Seven Voices Order.

They perform almost every elite task, from guarding dignitaries to assassination.

And Prasion, who introduced himself as a member of the White Night Order, belongs to a division suitable for escort duties within the Seven Voices Order.

‘Since the Seven Voices Order is directly under the high priests, it’s hard to know what secret orders he might have received.’

Because of this, I found myself on edge and had no choice but to keep an eye on Prasion.

Even though the Holy Kingdom harbors grand plans, they surely don’t include ‘individual deviations’.

Being cautious about potential issues is a very wise choice.

“Understood. Then let us escort you for the remaining distance to the Holy Kingdom.”

Prasion withdrew his sharp gaze from me and turned his horse towards the Holy Kingdom.

***

As Prasion joined the escort, it started to feel real that we were nearing the Holy Kingdom of Fernand.

The pure white structures, predominantly made of marble, conveyed a sense of piety typical of Fernand’s architectural style.

These elements that represent Fernand flashed through my mind once again.

I anticipated feeling nostalgic about the time I played ‘Let’s Kill the Demon Lord’, but…

Before that, my heart began to race with the suspicion that I might meet ‘him’ first.

“The Sword Saint.”

The origin, or at least a fundamental cause, of what turned me into this state.

‘What should I say if I see him?’

My feelings were complicated.

Initially, after seeing the trailer where ‘Julian kills the Sword Saint and Linne’, I tried to avoid any interaction with them as much as possible, fearing that it could actually happen.

But now, resentment outweighed my worries.

What in the world was he doing, abandoning his own affairs and seeking asylum in the Holy Kingdom?

‘Now I’m curious about what he’s up to… Hmm?’

Holding the reins and following Prasion, I noticed a fork in the road.

I know this path.

When I played the game, this was the first choice the ‘Sword Saint’ faced when heading to the Holy Kingdom.

‘Both the left and right lead to the border of Berniden.’

The left is a paved road.

The right is unpaved, as I remember. Probably.

And there was something behind it.

Naturally, it makes sense to take the paved road. It wouldn’t matter if it were just horses, but we have carriages too.

“Turn right.”

Contrary to my thoughts, Prasion naturally began leading the procession to the right.

The right path seemed well-maintained at first glance.

The left appeared unfinished and rough.

“Wait.”

“What is it, Sir Julian?”

Prasion turned around with an annoyed expression.

“That path isn’t paved, so it might be difficult for the carriages.”

I voiced my thoughts directly.

Then, he turned his head and our eyes met.

“We know the geography here better. Sir Julian, this is your ‘first’ time in the Holy Kingdom, isn’t it?”

He looked at me with a glance that seemed to say, ‘What would a murderer know?’

I simply responded with a warm smile.

Yes, it’s my first time.

But I’m not naive. There’s another reason we shouldn’t go that way. Haha.

As far as my memory serves, Julian’s official visit to the Holy Kingdom happens much later.

Prasion is right, now is ‘officially’ my first time.

But I’ve been here hundreds, thousands of times.

“Yes, ‘officially’ that is.”

Today, I particularly enjoyed the slight curve of my eyes and the upward tilt of my lips.

Caught off guard, Prasion started to ponder my words.

“So, then…”

Yes, what I mean is, ‘I’ve been here unofficially.’

I probably know the geography here better than you do.

Hyun-soo guarded against Ronso, who could not approach him, as he listened to endless notifications.

[You have acquired the first sentence of the title.]

‘The first sentence? What in the world is this?’

(First Sentence)

Title Sentence

Grade: SS

Special Abilities:

· Activates with a 10% chance when you have shown your will multiple times without giving up in a critical moment.

· Applies a one-time solution to overcome a crisis appropriate to your job group.

· After activation, if the crisis is deemed to be an insurmountable mountain, each word you form will possess a special power.

· It is a superior version of a title meant only for you. It does not activate easily and is a special title bestowed by Ares due to your strong will.

The last explanation is striking.

‘A special title bestowed by Ares due to my strong will.’

[The search is completed.]

[You have discovered one hidden feature of the “Counter”.]

Moreover, this power was hard to see as breaking the balance.

According to the description, one must overcome critical moments multiple times, and it activates with a low probability of 10%.

[You can combine artifacts created by “Counter”.]

[Ignore the cooldown time.]

Moreover, upon reflection, this power is also a creation of Hyun-soo’s own doing.

Artifact Combination.

The extent to which this mysterious and tremendous power can be exerted is unknown.

However, when ordinary and ordinary are combined, at best, the power of Rare will be exerted.

If Epic and Epic are combined, at best, it will exert the power of Unique.

Such is the primal power of “Counter”.

Now Hyun-soo himself uses the power by regenerating the artifacts he has crafted.

‘This power is solely my own creation.’

Moreover, an absolute barrier that blocks Ronso’s approach.

This too originated from what Hyun-soo had crafted.

The description of the First Sentence title states this.

‘After activation, if the crisis is deemed to be an insurmountable mountain, each word you create will possess special power.’

Each word possesses special power.

[The sentence begins.]

[Even if it breaks]

[Blocks enemy approach until artifacts are combined.]

Hyun-soo discovered it.

The word “Even if it breaks” engraved in light in the air.

“What, what is this! You, what vile thing are you doing!”

Ronso, significantly stronger than usual due to the Resurrection Disaster, also could not comprehend the strange events unfolding.

The two minerals, not yet completed.

They are finally fully crafted.

Smelting.

Refining.

Forging.

Polishing.

The resulting two artifacts are a scythe sword and Poseidon’s trident.

He brings the two weapons to the center with both hands.

The two artifacts are enveloped in light and take on a new form.

The three prongs of the trident disappear, and the long, beautiful blade of the scythe sword becomes the spearhead.

The shaft is completely dyed white as if proclaiming goodness, and the name ‘Trident’ is engraved upon it.

As the light faded, a spear revealed its form.

This spear, with a blade sharp as a knife, surprisingly contained two coexisting powers.

Swooooosh-

The melody of gently spreading waves.

Kroooooom-

The divine power, eager to break free, finally creates a perfect artifact.

[Can be used for 1 minute.]

[Rank above Legendary.]

[Congratulations.]

[You are now eligible to challenge the new Top 10 Legends.]

[The Legend of the Master Craftsman will be written.]

“What exactly is that spear!”

Hyun-soo had heard this question from many.

At the time he first created the Death Sword, he answered Calamity Jack’s question.

‘The king wished.’

For national peace and the safety of the people.

For a peaceful and prosperous era.

The story of a king who wished for his people’s comfort during his reign.

And from Greek mythology, the tale of the Trident, one of the three most powerful deities.

Or the story of Hercules, born humble and became a demigod.

Hyun-soo always spoke of their greatness and stories.

But today was different.

What is this spear?

“I wish.”

With that, Hyun-soo took a step forward.

Kroooooom-

Ronso’s face turned pale as he heard the massive sound.

Ronso steps back.

[Hyun-soo Lv.290]

He was just a person of considerable power before.

But divine power has the strength to destroy evil.

It inflicts hundreds of percent more damage on evil.

Moreover, an immense power of unknown origin.

[Hyun-soo Lv.???]

Right now, Hyun-soo, facing Ronso, one of the ultimate evils, held immeasurable power.

Behind him, Belin couldn’t believe it.

She remembered the day he first met him.

At that time, he was just a skilled blacksmith, a commoner.

Now, he had completely changed.

“I wish for this domain to grow larger, to remain steadfast against any threat.”

Finally, Belin realized.

‘My choice has never been wrong…!’

Ronso’s face twisted grotesquely as Hyun-soo continued.

“I wish to be there for their safety and peace.”

Chills-

Chills ran down Ronso’s back.

He imagined it.

Years later, Hyun-soo, much larger and stronger, looking down at the citizens from the walls of the greatly expanded Ballas domain.

“That will never happen, you and the Ballas domain will disappear today.”

Ronso regained his composure.

He was in tatters.

Just moments ago, he was near death.

He thought he could kill him with just a few lashes.

Crackling-

The moment his whip was swung, it left dozens of afterimages.

Though they seem like mere afterimages, all of them carry damage.

In that moment.

A massive roar revealed its nature—a gigantic tidal wave of light appeared behind Hyun-soo.

The wave blocked in front of Hyun-soo as if to protect him.

The speed of the whip, caught in the wave, slowed exponentially.

Soon, as Ronso quickly moved to avoid being sucked into the wave, he saw letters being carved into the air.

[Never Back Down.]

[HP and MP are restored by 20%.]

Sssssss-

Watching him quickly recover from many wounds, Ronso gritted his teeth.

His whip struck the ground fiercely.

Boooooom-

[All powers in the vicinity are neutralized for 30 seconds.]

[Skills cannot be used.]

Then, the wave of light vanished in an instant.

The moment the wave receded, Hyun-soo and Ronso immediately collided.

Clashhhhhh-!

Ronso, engaged in relentless combat, thought he had gained the upper hand.

‘Those without the power of mystery are weak…’

Crackkkk-

Sssssssss-

At that moment, Ronso, slashed by Hyun-soo, felt a pain unlike any he had ever known.

“Arghhhhhhhhh!”

It was clearly a normal attack.

That meant the damage from the mysterious spear was completely beyond his understanding.

Unbeknownst to him.

[Damage against evil increases by 450%.]

The spear Hyun-soo was wielding contained the essence of the Death Sword.

With additional power.

[Movement and attack speed increase by 35%.]

Hyun-soo’s speed rose exponentially.

Crackkkk-

Slashhhhh-

Exchanging blows, Ronso was perplexed.

The damage he took from Hyun-soo’s attacks far surpassed what his whip could inflict on Hyun-soo.

Fortunately for Ronso, his total HP was significantly higher.

This is why Named NPCs and monsters at the same level could overpower a player.

They had several times more HP, allowing them to withstand more damage.

Colliding with Hyun-soo, Ronso finally realized he had won.

“Hehehe, you’ve finally lost.”

With the power of mystery controlled, his sword was merely a powerless thing.

Still with undimmed eyes, Hyun-soo glared at him as Ronso savored his victory.

He watched as Hyun-soo’s wounds increased and his body crumbled.

[HP falls below 6%.]

A spear with an extraordinary power.

Impressive and strange.

But with the level difference, the power of mystery, and several other factors combined, it was hard to win with just a spear.

But soon, Ronso’s eyes widened.

[HP falls below 2%.]

In front of Hyun-soo, the final sentence emerged wrapped in light.

[I’ll win.]

[Status abnormalities are removed.]

“……!?”

[All sentences are revealed.]

[Even if it breaks, never back down and I’ll win.]

Ronso took in and pondered over those brilliantly shining words.

In that moment, Ronso felt it.

“Ghost Step.”

The strength produced by his far more frail and humble opponent, merely a blacksmith, through his profound mental resilience.

Crash-

Slash

Thud

Crack!

Beep

Each time he was slashed, broken, split, and attacked, a brilliant light burst forth from the impacted area.

And Hyun-soo felt that he had reached his physical limits.

But he knew that if he couldn’t overcome this, fifty soldiers, the Gale Squad, the blacksmiths of Ballas, the domain’s residents, and Belin—all would die.

“I will.”

Crash-

[Ronso’s HP falls below 2%.]

Fizz!

“Surely.”

[Ronso’s HP falls below 1%.]

Thwock-!

Ronso, with the spear blade lodged in his abdomen, began to disintegrate slowly.

His words, widening the astonishing gap between them.

“I will become the lord.”

Ronso.

He began to dissipate into ashes.

The disintegrating Ronso looked at Hyun-soo.

Trickling down, kneeling, he gave a hollow laugh.

‘What nonsense.’

As his face began to fade, Ronso thought this.

‘A man fit to be king.’

He had finally accepted his defeat outright.

Hyun-soo staggered but regained his composure.

[35 seconds remaining.]

Hyun-soo still had places to go.

Outside the castle.

It was to support his guild members who were fighting desperately.

Today was different.

The urgency was greater than the anticipation for the explosive notification of rewards.

Then.

[Lord’s Mercy]

[HP and MP are restored by 15%.]

A woman’s fingertips touched his back.

Hyun-soo turned his head to see Belin kneeling.

“……My lord.”

It was perhaps inevitable.

The statuses of the two had completely changed from when they first met.

Soon she said.

“……Save your people.”

[Belin delegates all her authority as a lord.]

[Congratulations.]

[You have become the lord of the Ballas domain.]

Hyun-soo finally became the master of this land.

Hyun-soo turned his head.

It was time to save his people.

Round 40

Prev | TOC | Next

When Jae-seong made it, it was just one serving. But this time, I had prepared extensively and could make enough for 50 people at once.

“Preparing the ingredients was tough.”

When Jae-seong and I briefly visited the dungeon, we prepped all the ingredients in advance. That’s why it took so long to return home, but thanks to that, it was convenient now.

“Smells great!”

Already, Ara and the slimes were devouring it like there was no tomorrow.

With a determination not to lose, I took a big spoonful. It wasn’t just the smell of curry; the complex and subtle aromas of the vegetables mixed with the embergrill enhanced my appetite.

“Ah!”

Finally, the first spoonful went into my mouth. It was a familiar curry taste, yet a flavor of curry I had never tasted before.

“So, so delicious…!”

As expected, the melt-in-your-mouth curry was simply exquisite. Although I was a bit worried due to the strong personalities of the ingredients, just like when Jae-seong made it, each ingredient stood out while harmoniously blending together.

Curious about the others’ reactions, I glanced to the side and saw a scene out of a fairy tale—a food fight in progress.

Munch munch!

What should I call this?

Battle eating?

Even though I had given Ara 20 servings, half of it was already gone.

Well, I’m glad they liked it.

It was so delicious that it was hard not to like it in the first place.

“Phew, phew. Chomp!”

Since the curry was hot, I blew on it and ate slowly. Unlike the slimes, I wasn’t a big eater, so one serving was enough.

…Honestly, I wanted to eat more, but there was only one serving left for me.

“Phew!”

Surrounded by the dreamy scenery of nature, eating this fantastic curry made it hard to tell if this was reality or a dream.

“This place is great for farming and for a relaxing retreat.”

Once I’m sure there are no dangerous monsters after a thorough exploration, I should bring my family here for a visit.

Lick lick—

Before I knew it, I had finished all the curry. Feeling a bit disappointed, I scraped the bottom with my spoon. Next to me, they were licking their bowls clean.

“Ara, was it good?”

“It was so, so, so good!”

Meanwhile, Bokkeum threw himself into the pot where the curry was made, determined to lick even the curry stains.

Wriggle!

Eventually, Mark2 and Poispois joined in, leading to a battle for the pot.

Anyone would think I was starving them.

“Haha, no need for dishwashing.”

Seeing the slimes scrambling and the clean bowls made me laugh.

While the kids played, I quickly finished cleaning up. Lying down on the extended chair, it felt like heaven.

“The weather is nice and cool too.”

In front of me was a fire pit crackling as if logs were burning, picturesque scenery, and adorable slimes.

Exhausted from playing, Ara wriggled over and clung to me. The chair got narrower, but it felt even better.

Gurgle?

Seeing this, the slimes also clung to me one by one. I hugged them, watching the stars.

“Maybe I’ll take a short nap.”

I set an alarm and fell asleep hugging the kids.

* * *

Beep beep! Beep beep!

The cheerful alarm woke me up.

I slightly lifted my head and saw the slimes still in their positions and Ara, who had fallen asleep quietly.

Carefully, I placed the sleeping Ara on the chair and began to tidy up.

Wriggle wriggle—

“Here, pack this up.”

I asked Bokkeum to pack the luggage and started folding the tent. Although I ended up sleeping on the chair last night, tonight I plan to sleep in the tent.

With the tent transformed into magic stones and the barrier rods collected, the cleanup was done.

Gulp!

Seeing Bokkeum swallow all the luggage, I felt incredibly lucky.

“If I had to carry all that…”

One or two days’ worth of luggage was manageable, but any more would be tough. Thanks to Bokkeum, all I had to carry was Ara’s snack backpack.

“Uwoong!”

As I tidied Ara’s hair, I checked again to make sure nothing was left behind.

“Shall we set off again?”

“Let’s go!”

Feeling refreshed, Ara shouted energetically.

We might reach the Shiny Tree today, which meant it would be a four-day round trip.

“This place is really huge.”

The Shiny Tree, which seemed close enough to use as a landmark, was two days away one way. Exploring the rest of the dungeon could take months, maybe even over a year.

After walking a bit, we reached the edge of a shallow forest.

“Eh? The bugs are gone?”

Just until we set up the tent and played nearby, there were many bugs like fireflies flying around, but now there were none to be seen.

Did they all run away when we got close? But they were already gone when we started out.

“It’s time for the Shiny Tree to start shimmering!”

“What?”

“All the glowing bugs have gone to the Shiny Tree!”

Ara’s vocabulary was surprisingly decent. Even so, what she just said was hard to understand.

“Whatever it is, it’s not dangerous, right?”

“It’s not dangerous! Uh…!”

Ara groaned, finding it hard to explain, then clapped her hands once.

“Oh! It’s night time!”

“Night?”

It’s already night though?

I looked up at the sky, and Ara giggled.

“It’s still daytime now!”

“It’s daytime now?”

“When it gets night, the Shiny Tree starts shimmering! No! When the Shiny Tree starts shimmering, that’s when it’s night!”

“Oh, so that’s how you tell day and night?”

“That’s right! As expected, Kyu-seong Kyu-seong is smart!”

It seemed like they distinguished the time of day based on the Shiny Tree. Thinking it was an ingenious way to tell time, we slowly walked into the forest. Contrary to my expectations of it being dark inside, it was quite bright.

“Hmm, it’s pretty ordinary.”

Having seen only fantastical landscapes, the forest felt ordinary. Of course, the plants in the forest were all unknown to me, but that was the same on Earth too.

“You can eat this too!”

“Moss?”

Ara plucked some green moss and quickly put it in her mouth. Seeing her chew happily, I got curious too.

“Can I eat some too?”

“It’s fine.”

I plucked a bit of moss and ate it, tasting a faint mint flavor. But it didn’t taste particularly good.

Whirr—

“Huh?”

At that moment, I saw the deer we had seen the day before.

But this time, they were in a herd.

“Wow.”

It was just like the description I had read; when gathered, the colorful deer formed a kind of painting. It seemed like an illusion to make them look like one large animal, and it was incredibly beautiful.

“Oh! It’s Whirr!”

“Haha.”

I laughed at Ara’s cute naming sense.

The Whirr, as Ara named them, seemed wary of us but not scared. Perhaps gathering in a herd gave them courage.

“But they’re all small in size?”

I thought the Whirr I saw the day before was a fawn, but now it seemed like they were adults. Looking closely, I saw small deer about the size of rabbits.

So they gather in herds to create an illusion because they’re so small.

Whirr!

The Whirr with small antlers at the front stepped forward boldly. I wondered what gave it the courage, but then I saw it wagging its tail energetically at Ara.

‘That’s strange.’

It felt like I’d seen this reaction before. The horned beasts during the dungeon break had also reacted to Ara like this…

“Layla?”

Layla increases monster affinity.

And Ara had eaten over ten of them by herself.

The description mentioned permanent increases in monster affinity, but the limit was supposed to be five…

Just to be sure, I decided to check Ara’s status. It had been a while since our first meeting.

[Ara (Gluttony)]

[One of the Seven Deadly Sins, a demon responsible for gluttony]

[A slime with unknown potential. Minion of Lee Kyu-seong.]

[Abilities: Gluttony, Breath, Physical Enhancement, Affinity.]

“Huh?”

A lot had changed.

First, the name. It used to be the name of a demon, but now it was ‘Ara.’ The description clearly stated that she was my minion.

Next were the abilities.

“That’s crazy.”

New abilities, Physical Enhancement and Affinity, had appeared.

And these two were clearly…

‘Physical Enhancement is from the Sweet Potato candy, and Affinity is from the Magical Layla.’

It must be thanks to the Gluttony ability.

But I never imagined it would be this much.

Isn’t this the strongest ability?

Whirr!

“Hehe, it’s Whirr. Hehe.”

Ara petted the Whirr that had approached. The deer seemed to enjoy it, closing its eyes and rubbing its head against her hand.

I took out a Layla from Ara’s snack box and ate it. Then I slowly approached.

“I want to eat Layla too.”

So, she noticed the smell.

Unable to hide the scent of Layla, I handed over the snack box to Ara and slowly approached the deer. It seemed the monster affinity buff was working well, as the Whirr didn’t run away but tilted its head curiously at me.

“Good girl.”

I carefully reached out and petted it.

The Whirr flinched but soon stood still, stiffened.

It seemed Ara’s affinity was much higher than mine.

“It’s delicious!”

Ara ate Layla and even shared it with the slimes. Then, she handed some to the Whirr I was petting.

“Want to try it? It’s soooo delicious!”

As Ara extended her hand holding the Layla, the Whirr’s tail wagged energetically again. However, it seemed uninterested in the Layla, only rubbing its head against her.

After a brief moment of bonding, the Whirr with the small antlers returned to its herd.

“Aww.”

Ara, feeling a bit disappointed, clenched and unclenched her hand, letting out a groan.

Whirr!

“Goodbye!”

Whirr!

The herd of Whirr nodded as if saying goodbye and moved away, disappearing as a group. They looked like a giant dragon slithering away.

“Wow.”

“Ooh! That’s amazing!”

It seemed that as we explored the Gluttony Dungeon further, we would encounter other creatures too. It was unlikely that only the deer herd lived in such a vast area.

“Shall we go further in?”

“Let’s go!”

The Shiny Tree was now right in front of us.

As we moved past where we parted with the Whirr, the scenery gradually changed. The forest remained, but the trees making up the forest seemed…

“These all look like tree roots?”

What I thought were wooden trunks were not planted in the ground but extended from somewhere else.

And in that direction was a giant tree, now so close it couldn’t be seen in a single glance.

It seemed like all these tree-like structures were roots of that Shiny Tree.

“In the past, I used to eat these trees too.”

“Oh, really?”

“But eating too much made the tree hurt, so I stopped.”

“…I see.”

I couldn’t imagine what Ara looked like before, but seeing how much she ate even in her small form, I could guess. Honestly, she could probably eat endlessly if she wanted to.

“Bugs!”

Just then, Ara pointed somewhere and shouted.

Bugs like the fireflies we saw the day before were flying around.

“We’re almost there.”

-Squeak!

Huh? What was that sound?

For a moment, I thought Ara made the sound, but it didn’t seem to be the case.

Ara, hearing the same sound, perked up her ears and looked around.

“Mark2, Poispois, Bokkeum. That wasn’t you, was it?”

Glug?

It wasn’t the slimes either.

Then the sound…

“Huh?!”

Ara pointed again, but she seemed too flustered to speak properly.

When I looked where she was pointing, I saw human-like beings the size of a palm among the firefly-like bugs.

To be precise, they were perched on a tree, watching us.

Round 39

Prev | TOC | Next

Even though I had been here before, the scenery was still overwhelming.

The pale yellow grass, the gigantic trees, the star-studded waterfall-like night sky, and the faint sun replacing the moon all contributed to the dreamlike atmosphere. A cool breeze embraced my face as I stood there.

“Shall we go?”

“Let’s go!”

We headed towards the sparkling tree in front of us. There was a shallow forest around the tree, and our goal for today was to reach that forest.

“Mark2 what do you think? Can we farm here too?”

Gurgle!

Mark2 gave a positive gesture, and I nodded. Since winter was coming, we needed to quickly check the dungeon and return to plant the crops.

“Oh! It’s been a while!”

“What is that?”

While we were walking, Ara found something and showed it to me.

“It’s for eating!”

“For eating?”

I looked at what Ara brought; it was a small, berry-like plant. Examining it closer, I saw a small cluster of plants where Ara found it.

“We used to eat these when we lived here! We ate so many that they disappeared eventually!”

“Really?”

Could that be why we almost starved?

They ate so much they nearly drove the species to extinction.

Anyway, I took the berry from Ara and sniffed it.

‘No smell at all.’

I was about to ask how to eat it when I saw Ara already eating a handful.

“You can eat it with the skin!”

It was about the size of a pinky nail.

I put it in my mouth and bit into it, feeling the seeds inside as the skin broke.

‘It’s nutty.’

It felt like biting into a hearty bread.

As I kept chewing, a sweetness emerged, reminiscent of rice.

“Kyu-seong Kyu-seong ! Can we grow this too?”

“Hmm, should we try?”

It seemed possible.

If it grew so well in the wild, proper cultivation might yield good results.

Of course, the slimes would do the farming, not me.

‘In times like this, slimes are incredibly useful for farming.’

It was like cheating, being able to grow any plant without understanding its needs.

No need to research watering schedules, sunlight requirements, soil types, or optimal temperatures.

While others might spend years studying and experimenting, I could skip all that.

“Ara, gather all those berries instead of eating them. We’ll plant them later.”

“Ugh. Got it.”

Ara pouted, disappointed that she couldn’t eat more. To console her, I gave her some sweet potato candies that Jae-seong had packed.

“Yay, sweet potato candies!”

Ara, now cheerful, led the way with sweet potato candies in both hands. A little further ahead, we came across a trickling stream.

“Interesting.”

It was strange not to see any animals in such a lush environment. Ara had said something lived here, but we hadn’t encountered anything yet, making the place eerily quiet.

I scooped some water to save it.

Though unsure if it was safe to drink, Ara eagerly gulped it down, thirsty from the candies.

“Ahhh!”

“You look like you drank beer.”

Ara had no worries.

Her ability to eat anything allowed her to digest whatever she consumed.

As we continued walking, more unfamiliar plants caught my eye. Various flowers were blooming here and there.

‘Plants, especially flowers, blooming like this means there’s pollination happening…’

It indicated the presence of bees, butterflies, birds, or other pollinators.

As I followed Ara, fascinated by the dungeon’s ecology, we finally spotted something moving.

Fluff?

“Oh! This is the first time I’ve seen one!”

“What? You’ve never seen one before either?”

It was an animal, or rather, a monster resembling a deer.

Just in case, I brought out the carrot juice that let me see monsters’ abilities.

Gulp

Ara drooled as she watched me drink the fruit and vegetable juice. In the end, I drank only as much as I needed to use the ability and gave the rest to Ara. While Ara drank the juice, I used my activated ability to check the information about the deer.

[?? LV.2]

A four-legged animal with growing antlers.

It mainly eats the leaves of ??? trees and the flowers of ???.

It is sensitive but has a gentle temperament.

When in a group, its colors become more vibrant. It is weak against fire.

“Wow, it shows up like this.”

The effect of the juice, which I used for the first time, exceeded my expectations. The best part was that the monster wasn’t dangerous.

“It’s delicious!”

“Ara, is this really your first time seeing that animal?”

“Yes! It seems new creatures have moved in while I was gone!”

Could they really move in? I didn’t quite understand, but I let it go.

We stood facing the deer for a while. It glowed with a faint blue light and was small, perhaps because it was young or naturally small.

Fluff!

Suddenly, Ara approached the deer, which startled and took a step back but then sniffed the air curiously.

“Come here, good one.”

Muttering like she was casting a spell, Ara slowly approached. Surprisingly, the deer didn’t run away but continued to sniff and then cautiously approached her.

“Good one!”

She sounded just like my mother. Ara had picked up some strange habits. She gently petted the deer, which seemed to enjoy it.

“Hehehe! It’s so soft!”

“Why isn’t it running away? Is it because it’s a curious young one?”

Although the description said it was sensitive, perhaps it wasn’t as sensitive as I thought.

Seeing Ara having fun made me want to pet it too. The deer wasn’t as cute as Ara, but it was still pretty adorable.

Fluff!

However, when I approached, the deer got scared and backed away. Why was it so friendly with Ara but not with me?

I was a bit annoyed but understood. Ara was cute, but I was just an adult man. Even though I never felt unattractive, compared to Ara, I looked like a squid.

“Now even monsters care about appearances.”

I sighed, but it was too late. The moment I approached, the deer hopped away towards the distant forest.

“It’s okay, Kyu-seong Kyu-seong . There will be more in that forest.”

“Yeah. Let’s go quickly.”

After walking for several hours, we finally got closer to the forest. It looked even more mystical up close than it did from afar.

“Bugs!”

Lights were flying around near the forest. They were clearly flying insects.

This dungeon indeed had creatures other than plants. While this was evident from the deer, seeing numerous glowing insects flying around felt different.

“Have those bugs always been here?”

“Yes! And they were delicious!”

“…Have you eaten them?”

I erased the rest of the conversation from my memory. While it wasn’t surprising that Ara could eat anything, imagining her eating bugs was a bit…

‘It is possible.’

Even now, I could see Ara happily picking flowers and putting them in her mouth.

Even in a dungeon, flowers seemed to have some nectar.

“How long have we been walking?”

I checked my watch and saw that we had been walking for nine hours. Since we were almost at the forest, we decided to set up camp and rest nearby.

“Alright, let’s set up the tent.”

“Tent! Tent!”

I took out the magic stone from my pocket. As I infused mana into the stone, it began to glow faintly.

“Just place this on the ground like this…”

As I placed the glowing magic stone on the grass, it slowly transformed into a tent, assembling itself automatically.

“Wow!”

Ara was astonished, unable to close her mouth in amazement. After about three minutes, the magic stone had turned into a tent big enough for ten people.

“It’s worth the high price.”

I immediately commanded Bokkeum to unload our belongings. After organizing the items neatly, I set up alarms around the area.

“What is this?”

“These are barrier sticks. When we stick them around the tent, weak monsters can’t get in.”

While I hammered the barrier sticks into the ground, I asked Ara to prepare the stove. She had seen one displayed at the store, so she should have an idea of how to set it up.

Bang! Bang!

I hammered the sticks into the ground. I placed all sixteen sticks in a circle with a 50-meter radius around the tent.

Glancing over, I saw Ara huddled with the slimes, brainstorming together.

‘What an adorable sight.’

I wanted to rush over and hug her, but I held back and continued setting up the barrier sticks. Once all sixteen were installed, a faint barrier formed around the tent.

“All done. Ara, how’s it going over there?”

“It’s perfect!”

Except for the upside-down pot on the stove, Ara had indeed done a perfect job. I praised her and spread out the sheets and bedding inside the tent.

“What’s this?”

“A sleeping bag. You sleep inside it.”

“Oh!”

Ara wriggled into the sleeping bag and looked like a squirming caterpillar.

“Hehehe! This is fun.”

“Isn’t it warm?”

“Yeah! It’s warm!”

I set up chairs outside the tent and lit the stove. Despite the sun, the night sky made the stove’s fire feel fitting.

“It feels just like camping.”

It was like the best campsite ever. Who would think this place was a dangerous dungeon?

Looking around, gentle hills and wildflowers filled the landscape. Nearby, firefly-like insects flitted around the mystical forest.

“It would be perfect if there was a stream right here.”

When I looked up, the sky, different from Earth’s, greeted me beautifully. The dreamy atmosphere was largely thanks to that sky.

‘I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a starry night sky before.’

Crackle, crackle.

The sound of burning logs quietly echoed. Ara wobbled out of the tent in her sleeping bag.

“Ara, are you hungry?”

“I’m always hungry!”

“Then let’s eat something.”

Ara plopped down on a chair next to me, eyes sparkling with anticipation.

I decided to make curry using the cherry tomatoes, carrots, and potatoes we brought from the dungeon, along with the herb Embergrill.

‘Jae-seong made this for me once. But the ingredients are a bit different this time.’

I poured the prepared water into a pot and placed it on the stove. While the water boiled, I prepared the ingredients. They were already prepped before our departure. Apart from the Embergrill, tomatoes, potatoes, and carrots, everything else was store-bought. I planned to grow onions and garlic myself later.

I sautéed the onions and tomatoes, then added the meat. After cooking the meat for a while, I added the potatoes and carrots. I poured in the pre-boiled water and added the curry powder, filling the air with its aroma. Finally, I sprinkled a bit of Embergrill on top…

Gulp!

I could hear Ara swallowing her saliva. Even the slimes, which had been rolling around, gathered to watch the cooking.

“The rice is instant.”

I heated the instant rice in hot water. Soon, the large pot of curry was ready, and we prepared our bowls.

“Time to serve.”

Blub, blub!

The slimes and Ara had such hearty appetites that their bowls were enormous. Each slime received ten portions of rice with plenty of curry. Ara needed twenty portions of rice with her curry.

“Wow!”

Even though I made the curry, it smelled quite good. I was worried I might mess up the proportions making such a large batch, but it turned out well.

‘The ingredients are amazing.’

These were ingredients that could save even failed dishes.

With everyone’s portions ready, we all took up our spoons.

“Let’s eat.”

“Let’s eat!”

Swoosh! Blub, blub!

Strike 140

Prev I TOC I Next

[The wolf’s egg wishes to protect you.]

Hyun-su listened to the voice of the one who always acted spoiled.

“You are going to protect me…?”

[The wolf’s egg wishes to block a single whip attack.]

Hyun-su’s heart calmed down.

The will of the one who wanted to help him.

He felt a strong bond forming between himself and the egg.

Before he knew it, he was also cherishing the existence within the wolf’s egg, and the creature inside felt the same.

Giving flesh and taking bone.

“Thank you.”

The only thing the creature trapped in the egg could do.

It might seem insignificant, but it was his best effort.

The result of his utmost effort.

Crrraaack-!

The whip was blocked, and a precious moment was gained.

The sword’s cry is the strongest wide-range attack.

The heat haze rising from the drawing stance.

And the moment he forcefully drew his sword.

Kwaaaakwaaakwaaakwaaakwaaakwaaakwaaaak!

Within a 20m radius, the hellhounds were mercilessly slaughtered.

Moreover, the sword’s cry was made 8% more excellent by not breaking.

Also, all swordsmanship skills greatly depend on the user’s stats and the sword’s attack power.

“When did I grow this strong?”

He was so powerful that he could ponder such thoughts.

“Grrrgh…!”

Although Ronso hurriedly increased his physical defense dramatically, it was futile.

[Even if not directly cut, if within a radius of 20m, it cuts through all defenses.]

The sword’s cry was a power that ignored all defenses, defying common sense.

“Kraaaah!”

Eventually, he screamed.

[Ronso’s HP falls below 80%.]

After the relentless slashing, Ronso could see twenty hellhounds turning to ash.

Swooosh-

Moreover, he could realize the enormous amount of damage inflicted given the disparity in their powers.

“This was just a one-time thing.”

If this was his peak, then not giving him any more opportunities…

“…!?”

[You cannot move.]

Ronso’s face was filled with dismay.

That moment.

[Counter (反) is activated.]

[Two artifacts can be created.]

Two minerals sprouted around Hyun-su.

Thanks to the mystical power gained from the egg, Ronso realized that he could now exhibit limitless strength.

The rising minerals were refined.

And before he knew it, Hyun-su’s sword that had approached him from below sliced upwards.

[Six consecutive damages will be applied.]

The damage dealt by a mere blacksmith’s sword once.

Craaack-

“Grk!?”

Twice.

“Cough!”

Three times.

Four times.

Five times.

And with the last sixth time, Ronso screamed out.

“Kahaaak!”

Although each of the six consecutive damages was considered a normal attack, being unprotected and slashed was critical.

[HP falls below 68%.]

Ronso’s eyes bulged.

Two swords, each engraved with 28 stars, were swiftly descending from the sky.

And from the other sword, a roar of a legendary monster could be felt.

[The special power of Counter (反) is applied.]

[There’s a 1% chance to wield both swords simultaneously.]

Hyun-su quickly reached for the two swords.

The tremendous power emanating from the two swords made Ronso’s spine tingle.

“Is this what it means to be a blacksmith? A new legend in the making.”

But a legend is just potential, nothing more yet.

“I can’t afford to play with you anymore.”

Ronso also realized that he was in danger.

He resisted the remaining half-second stun.

And then he swung his whip toward the arm that was reaching for the swords.

Sseogeuueoeok-!

A chilling cutting sound echoed.

At that moment, Hyun-su’s eyes widened.

Tuuk-

It was because his left arm had been severed and fallen to the ground.

[You have received a powerful impact.]

[You are afflicted with the status ailment, confusion.]

Hyun-su kicked Ronso desperately with his foot.

Kwajaaak-!

Ronso, pushed back with his arms crossed, let out a small sneer.

He savored the sight of his ever-changing expressions.

And for Hyun-su, that moment felt like an eternity.

“I’ve lost an arm…”

Of course, it was just a part of the game.

After a forced logout, his arm would regenerate like a lizard’s.

But what if he lost here?

“Everything I’ve built will crumble, and everyone will die.”

Lord Belin, who had shown faith in him.

The blacksmiths who had shouted to meet again on the day he left.

The vassals who had waved to him.

And the members of the Guild of Light and the Stormtroopers with whom he had dreamt together.

“Your despairing expression pleases me…”

Ronso’s face hardened as he continued.

Poung-

Hyun-su pulled out a bottle of potion filled with green liquid and opened it with his mouth.

Gulp gulp

He immediately poured it over the severed area.

[You have used the blood of the Giant King.]

He brought the severed arm close, and it instantly reattached.

“……!?”

Ronso, gaping at Hyun-su, who was biting his lip, widened his eyes.

Hyun-su knew that the sound he had heard before was coming again.

“Never break, never back down, and by all means…”

He still couldn’t understand why he was hearing this sound.

He simply said what he had to say now.

“I will win.”

Kwaak-

Hyun-su grabbed both swords.

“It’s dangerous…”

Ronso became desperate.

Layers of black shields built up in front of him.

Then.

Keuheuheuheng-!

A massive roar of a tiger filled the arena, and a holy light struck Ronso.

[Tiger’s Energy]

[A massive divine power weakens you.]

[You are weakened.]

[You are weakened.]

[Fourth Calamity Ronso Lv.394]

[Fourth Calamity Ronso Lv.375]

[Fourth Calamity Ronso Lv.322]

[You are stunned for 3 seconds.]

Ronso was hit with an indescribable shock.

“Such a debuff exists?”

Moreover, the brilliant light emanating from his sword was the light of divine power.

It had the power to destroy evil.

More terrifying than that was the dragon that seemed to ascend blazing from his sword.

“I will win.”

He chewed on the words the mere blacksmith had said.

He had thought it was unthinkable.

The difference between him and the blacksmith was more than just a level difference of 100.

The difference in experience was also vast.

Kieheieieiek!

In that moment, he felt the fierce power of the dragon striking him.

Already weakened by the divine power, Ronso felt he couldn’t resist the force overwhelming him.

Kwaaaaang-

His body felt as if it was being shattered into pieces by the massive impact.

“Uggggggggh!”

Hyun-su, who had burst through the aftermath of the explosion, was pouring it all out.

[Ronso’s HP is…]

[Ronso’s HP is…]

[Ronso’s HP is…]

Both knew it.

They knew that this brief battle would determine their victory or defeat.

Finally, when Hyun-su’s attack had ended.

[You have killed the Fourth Calamity Ronso.]

“This is unbelievable…”

Old man Ronso wore a shocked expression.

Slowly turning into ash, Hyun-su knelt down as he watched him.

“Kuhuk, hukhuk.”

Breathing heavily, Hyun-su couldn’t believe that he had won.

And slowly, while waiting for the reward notification, he mulled over it.

‘What was that exactly?’

The sounds that kept ringing in his head.

‘Never break, never back down, and by all means.’

And Hyun-su had simply spoken his feelings.

‘I will win.’

Then, Hyun-su received this notification.

[Never Break]

[Something special is about to happen.]

Hyun-su’s title, ‘Never Break,’ read ‘Something special might happen.’

[The last sentence is completed.]

[This power originated from you will protect many more.]

[A sentence completed in a do-or-die moment grants a special power for one time.]

[The system is searching for the special power.]

[Searching… 1%… 3%… 13%…]

Hyun-su looked puzzled.

The title he held, ‘Never Break.’

The fact that it was a completed sentence arising from ‘something special might happen.’

‘Strange.’

Yet, Hyun-su had already overcome a life-or-death crisis.

Still, the system was searching for power.

Why bother…

‘Huh?’

Hyun-su, who was kneeling and waiting for the notification, felt a chill run down his spine.

A memory flashed by.

The Fifth Calamity, Jack.

It wasn’t his dark magic that had scared him.

The Six Calamities.

They had called their own traits ‘calamities’ and demonstrated powers that deviated from the norms of named NPCs.

At that time, Jack had demonstrated a power known as ‘The Calamity of Enhancement.’

Soon, the dispersing ash began to form a new shape.

[You have killed the Fourth Calamity Ronso.]

[A new story begins.]

Hyun-su trembled.

Ding!

[Sudden Quest: Resurrected Calamity]

Grade: SS

Requirement: One who has killed Ronso once

Reward: All rewards X2, Necklace of Calamity

Penalty if failed: The destruction of Ballass Territory.

Description: If the Fourth Calamity Ronso is not killed, Ballass Territory will be destroyed by his hands.

The rewards were maximized.

All rewards were doubled, and he could obtain the Necklace of Calamity along with the Coat of Calamity.

However, the damage from failing was too great.

‘The destruction of Ballass Territory.’

[The Resurrection of Calamity is activated.]

[Ronso’s HP is restored to 20%.]

[Ronso’s whipping becomes twice as fast.]

[Damage increases by 40%.]

[Ronso’s full power emerges and strengthens his subordinates.]

Black magic power surged from Ronso, who was turning to ash.

Wooshbangbang!

The black magic power broke through the windows and flew into the air, plunging Ballass Territory into darkness.

[Ronso’s subordinates are demonized.]

[They forget their fear and become much stronger.]

[Their killing and destructive instincts endlessly surge.]

The guild chat became noisy.

[Ian: Did they just get 20% stronger? Just when we thought we could handle them!]

[Bellia: I’m out of MP, they’re chasing me!]

[Risel: Even the dead ones are getting up…?]

‘No way.’

At that moment.

Kooquaquaquaquaquak—

Whips lashed from all directions, brutally whipping Hyun-su’s entire body.

[You are holding Asnium.]

[Your HP has fallen below 10%.]

[Your HP is restored to 15%.]

Hyun-su’s face turned pale instantly from being whipped all over.

“Guh…”

“I was thinking of playing with you slowly before killing you.”

Hyun-su knew the end had come.

It was hard to resist.

Even though he had never broken before, this seemed like something he could not easily overcome.

Then.

[The search is completed.]

Hyun-su saw that Ronso, who was approaching him, could no longer get closer.

‘What is this…?’

Hyun-su could see a blue barrier enveloping him.

[You have discovered one of Counter’s hidden features.]

Amidst the endless notifications, Hyun-su got back on his feet.

Immediately, two more minerals sprouted from Hyun-su.

***

In a small hidden room in the audience chamber,

Belin, hidden there, could not forget Hyun-su, whom she had met after a long time.

‘My lord, it has been a while.’

He had changed significantly in just a few months.

‘I’ll handle this. If I don’t open the door, no matter what sounds you hear, do not come out.’

Belin then squeezed her eyes shut and trembled as the roaring sounds spread.

The vibrations shaking the castle, the endless eerie screams.

Of course, it wasn’t just fear that kept her from leaving.

Belin knew.

She couldn’t be of any help to him.

Then, hearing Hyun-su’s scream, Belin got up.

What am I doing now?

She is the lord of this place.

She bit her lip.

Hyun-su might be in a desperate crisis right now.

She knew she couldn’t be of help.

But if.

‘If I can buy even a moment’s time…’

Might it not be a noble death?

Belin was okay with dying.

For this domain…

That’s why she slowly opened the door.

Creeeak-

Through the opened crack, she saw.

Ronso stepping back and Hyun-su glaring at him through strands of blood-soaked black hair.

A weapon in each of his hands.

When he brought the two weapons together, something astonishing happened.

[Combining artifacts.]

[The emergence of a legend above legends!]

Kooggggggg-

A massive divine power surged from him.

[The legend of the Master Craftsman is written.]

Act 87

Prev I TOC I Next

Sweat streamed down Felkor’s forehead as he gripped the shovel. Those who have never had to dig their own grave could never understand how terrifying it is. Fear began to coil around him like a snake, causing his hands and feet to tremble, and a chilling sensation surged up from his core.

With a flicker of hope, Felkor glanced at Julian’s face. It must be a joke. He must just be trying to scare him. As he comforted himself with these thoughts, he studied Julian’s face.

‘Damn!’

His expression was unchanged, cold as ice, with a chilling smile.

“What are you doing? Your hands have stopped moving.”

With Julian’s unflinchingly cold voice, Felkor had no choice but to continue shoveling. With each shovel full, the pit began to take shape, large enough for a person. As it deepened and widened, an indescribable terror took form and approached him.

‘I’m going to die.’

Felkor’s rational mind urged him to escape. He could die if he stayed. He had to break free and move. However, he couldn’t easily take action.

“How am I supposed to defeat that monster…?!” The fear imprinted in him wasn’t easy to shake off.

“Sir Julian. Please, spare me. I am not guilty!” Finally, Felkor spoke respectfully. “I was only ordered to remove the resonance stone, I didn’t hear anything about deploying replicas! If I had known, would I have done it!? I was used too…”

Thud!

Even as he defended himself loudly while digging, Felkor suddenly felt the shovel hit something solid.

‘Huh? What’s this…?’

Julian’s harsh voice snapped Felkor out of his confusion.

“That’s far enough.”

Felkor, staring blankly at Julian, stopped shoveling and looked at him.

“Will you pull ‘it’ out?”

Julian’s slightly arched eyes urged him on.

“Yes? Yes, yes….”

Dropping the shovel, Felkor hurriedly brushed away the dirt with his hands, and something began to appear.

“A sword?”

What was buried was none other than a rusty, broken ‘sword.’

***

As the broken sword emerged from the pit Felkor had dug, I clicked my tongue internally. Rusty, broken, it was a sword too embarrassing even to be called a sword. Anyone else might think it was just scrap metal buried there, but I had expected this…

‘It’s still here?’

To me, ‘it’ holds significant meaning. What is it? This is, believe it or not, the sword used by Sword Saint Haydn Reich when he destroyed the ‘Pseudo-Color Society’ founded by the current Archbishop Tenellon. In a word, it’s a noble and precious sword but, damn it!

‘Where did the prologue go?’

Like a game that primarily revolves around the story of ‘Let’s Kill the Demon Lord,’ there exists a kind of ‘prologue.’ After accomplishing the great feat of subduing the Demon Lord, the Sword Saint vowed never to wield a sword again, and buried it in the ground, hoping that such tragedies would never recur.

One, the wind did not last long.

The news of Tenellon’s survival heard by chance.

The organization called ‘Dawn Society’ that was founded because of this.

Because of this, the Sword Saint has come back here and digs up the sword he had buried, vowing once again.

With the determination that the end of the tragedy will not repeat.

That is exactly the prologue all players see when they start “Let’s Kill the Demon Lord”.

The protagonist, who hasn’t even progressed that far, can he really be called the protagonist?

Originally, even the actions of the Sword Saint now are a series of incomprehensible things.

Even if I compare what he has done so far with the story I knew, there is absolutely no correlation.

‘I cannot accept it.’

While nodding, I was surprised.

At this moment, ‘Julian’s’ body is astonishingly

in tune with this emotion.

No matter how bad ‘Julian’ is known as, he acknowledged it too.

The Sword Saint always had to be noble.

The Sword Saint has always been Julian’s goal.

Our madman, ‘Julian,’ breaks that nobility to prove himself, as his life’s goal and direction.

“…Crazy.”

The goal was laughable, but I could understand the thought that ‘the Sword Saint is noble.’

Because he’s the protagonist.

The world revolves around a noble and righteous protagonist, not some sneering villain.

That’s why this time, I can understand Julian’s’ emotional line.

However, the protagonist who made me so enthusiastic about the game, for some reason, is gradually changing differently from the story.

The Black Knight, not even showing his appearance.

Suddenly seeking asylum in the Holy Nation.

“Hmm. It seems I don’t want to admit it either.”

Looking at the sword used by the Sword Saint and lost in thoughts, Felkor woke me up.

“How should we proceed with this?”

With a voice full of fear and trepidation.

“Please give it to me. I’ll take it.”

As I reached out my hand to take it, Felkor hurriedly handed me the broken sword.

I carefully covered the piece of sword, now as small as a dagger, with cloth and tucked it inside my coat.

Not just because ‘it was used by the Sword Saint,’ nor because

‘Wow! This steel is the most precious steel in the world,’

but because this broken sword is a necessary item to obtain the Bell of Quiet Night.

Only the players would know the reason.

Seeing this sword here…?

Perhaps, the Sword Saint…

“Now, what should we do?”

The rough and bulky guy looked pitiful.

I shifted my gaze to Felkor.

“What should we do?”

Although the purpose of coming here was to take care of this ‘sword,’ there was another thing.

“Can we stop digging?”

“How could that be?”

I faintly smiled.

“It’s still too small for a person to fit in, isn’t it?”

In this situation, Felkor knows very well how I appear to him.

It must be scary. He would want to run away.

Since it’s not easy to confront with force.

Then I must use him.

“Ah, as I said earlier, Aidan has not informed me of anything! If Daemon had derailed the train then I would have……………!”

“I had roughly anticipated it. His Majesty Ulysses’s actions being bothersome, and someone who has a special relationship with Aidan. Probably, His Royal Highness Prince Caldrac de Adraton had instigated Mr. Aidan.”

The Third Prince, who appears in the mid-to-late story, is a warlike and imposing figure who extremely dislikes anyone taking his place.

In fact, I had guessed to some extent that ‘Aidan’ had been scheming to stop ‘Ulysses’ from the beginning. Bishop Aidan, weighing the benefits between the Third Prince and the Dawn Society, is a character who meets his death by the Sword Saint.

He probably only intended to warn. But the one who unnecessarily escalated this situation was… Aidan.

Due to the butterfly effect on me, now that Gerard has fallen, Aidan’s position as a ‘Bishop’ has also been shaken. That’s why he took drastic measures.

“Currently, I am accompanying His Majesty Ulysses by the command of Archbishop Tenellon. Did you know that?”

“Th-that is…”

“Even if you didn’t know, it’s a problem. After all, you directly defied the command of the Archbishop.”

As I continued, Felkor’s face turned ashen, uncharacteristically for his robust physique.

“So, you should be grateful. Before the Dawn Society officially proceeds, am I not trying to protect Sir Felkor’s ‘honor’?”

I know it’s sophistry, but even such pitiful rhetoric is enough to tighten the noose around Felkor’s mind.

I forced him to dig in extreme fear, it would be strange if it didn’t work.

As expected, a ‘Color of Dishonor’ began to clearly appear above his head. It was an intensely thick color of ‘fear’.

“Haha, just kidding. Don’t be so scared.”

“……What?”

“I am a person who possesses ‘compassion’. I am not heartless enough to bury someone who is completely unaware.”

That must be filling his head now. Son of a bitch, motherfucker, fuck.

Naturally, unlike ‘Julian,’ I, as a person, possess the emotion of ‘compassion.’ Although, it may not apply well to a bald giant.

“Now, Sir Felkor.”

I reached out to Felkor in the pit. Hesitating briefly, wondering if he had another ulterior motive, he soon grabbed my hand, shivering, and was able to climb out of the pit.

‘…Damn, he’s heavy.’

Without him noticing, I shrugged my shoulders and made a new proposal.

“Sir Felkor, how about we consider the past grievances as nonexistent and start anew?”

In fact, there’s no resentment to speak of on my part towards this fellow. The animosity that Felkor holds towards me is solely his own dissatisfaction.

A sense of inferiority and defeat as the weaker party.

Nevertheless, I spoke as if to dissolve the ‘resentment’ between ‘us.’

“Now that Alphas is dead, is there really a need for someone of your caliber to act as Aidan’s hand and foot?”

I showed a sympathetic nuance as I defended Felkor.

Captured by ‘fear,’ he must feel some sort of emotion towards my words and actions.

Whether it’s touched or enraged, or whatever.

It doesn’t matter which.

I’ve already laid the groundwork to psychologically dominate him.

It will certainly be 100% successful.

As long as I can see his ‘Color of Dishonor,’ there is no possibility of failure.

“Please think about it. About why this task was carried out without giving you detailed information.”

“Think…?”

“Did Sir Aidan not know that His Majesty Ulysses was on that train? And yet, he didn’t inform you, which means he wouldn’t care if you died, right?”

Felkor’s expression, conflicted for a moment, soon turns to despair.

In fact, when suspicion turned into certainty, his pessimism in the extreme situation doubled.

Tap. Tap.

I patted Felkor’s shoulder a couple of times. It’s not something ‘Julian’ would do, but living in modern society, I was sure that this action would be helpful. Fortunately, he seemed to take it as encouragement, and the color of ‘fear’ above his head faded slightly.

“To use such a talent, who was even a member of the Empire’s Grand Order of Knights, as a pawn, Sir Aidan is truly foolish.”

“Sir Julian…”

Because of this, he doesn’t feel averse to what I say. His eyes, filled with water, looked at me with admiration.

Yes, I’ll take care of you. Follow me, and there will be light… well, not exactly light.

After all, this is why I have kept alive the man who should have been dealt with on the train. He must report every action of Aidan to me.

I held a faint smile on my lips. It was the same smile as before, but Felkor looking at me seemed somewhat comforted. It must seem as though there’s a halo of light shining behind me.

***

“Every time you come here, it always seems to cause a commotion.”

The next day, I woke up in the ‘Closed Eyes’ lodging in Berniden and responded with a smile to the unexpected man who came to meet me.

“Sir Oronil, how have you been?”

This was Oronil, the border count in charge of Berniden, a border city. In the past, he had burned down a forest because of a Tri-horn demon… Well, let’s forget about that embarrassing past.

“I have prepared a carriage, coachman, and horses for your trip to Fernand. They are ample enough for all the servants to ride. I have already informed His Majesty Ulysses, so there’s no need to pass on the message separately.”

“Thank you.”

“What’s there to thank me for? It’s an imperial command, of course, it must be done.”

Unlike before, there was no hostility in Oronil’s eyes. When I first came here, the atmosphere was not like this.

“How is your daughter?”

“Thanks to you, she’s doing well.”

“That’s good to hear. It breaks my heart just to see a child suffering.”

Although I meant it sincerely, Oronil didn’t seem to take it that way. He showed a serious expression and cleared his throat before continuing.

“I may be the local representative closely associated with the Sun God religion, but still, I find His Majesty Ulysses’s actions hard to believe.”

“Is that so?”

“Could he not be risking his life? There are those who despise the empire there, and one misstep could ignite the flames of war.”

I am aware of that. But what can I do? He’s struggling to survive.

“Still, if Sir Julian serves as the commander of the guard, I thought it might not be something to worry about too much.”

While listening to Oronil, I felt there was something off in his words.

Why? Hasn’t a major incident already occurred?

“Anyway, please take good care of His Majesty Ulysses. I too serve under the Sun God Solarun.”

Leaving these words of request, Oronil turned away.

“Are you acquainted with the local border count here?”

As Oronil’s figure completely disappeared, a sharp voice came from behind me.

It was Linne, who had also spent the night at the ‘Closed Eyes’ lodging.

“Miss Linne, was your sleep comfortable? I’m concerned since it’s not as luxurious a place as you might be accustomed to using.”

“I’ve gotten used to it while following my master around. Anyway, let’s not change the subject.”

She’s quite blunt.

“Sir Julian, while you were away last night, someone from the tower managing the train came by.”

“Is that so?”

Since they can’t confront the royal Ulysses directly, it seems they decided to approach Linne, who is more approachable.

“From the look of it, they came to make a claim about the disconnected carriage. After talking with Count Oronil, they went back with a grim face.”

“That’s good to hear. It seems Sir Oronil handled the conversation well.”

“Yes, exactly as you said.”

To Linne’s question of “So, what’s your relationship with him?” I playfully responded.

“It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say I’m Sir Oronil’s ‘life-saver.'”

Hearing this, Linne displayed a face filled with a myriad of emotions.

Martial 23

“Buff.”

Zuaaang.

As Eugene gave orders to the wizards standing in formation, the wizards cast spells on the other members.

Currently, Team 5 consisted of three knights and six wizards, excluding Eugene.

Arid Sabe, Aron Jemed, and Ken Pelven were the knights, while Dustin Agel, Elber Rune, Peron Horus, Rohen Aldron, Uls Pian, and Sekenef Doan were the wizards.

Shwaaa.

“Strengthen spell and haste spell complete.”

“Well done.”

Eugene praised Dustin, who was reporting to him.

The results of their continuous practice were now showing.

Originally, it is more difficult for wizards to cast combined magic with others than casting alone.

The reason is that when casting alone, the calculations are simple, but as the number of participants increases, the complexity of the calculations increases, and the calculations could easily become tangled.

Team 5 was very careful about this.

They believed that as long as the six wizards performed their calculations without error, they could pass the test.

“There it is.”

Eugene looked at the yellow orb floating in the air.

The floating yellow orb was the Space Ball.

“Everyone, get ready.”

Chwajajang.

Uuuung.

At Eugene’s words, the three knights positioned themselves behind the wizards, and among the six wizards, the two specializing in combat watched the left and right flanks, while the rest stood in the center, ready to support the others.

Of course, Eugene was at the top, facing forward.

Zuaaang.

“It’s coming.”

Warrurururu.

As Eugene spoke, the Space Ball started spewing out Lizardmen.

At that moment,

‘Wait… something’s wrong…’

Eugene squinted his eyes as he watched the Lizardmen pouring out from the Space Ball.

He quickly counted the Lizardmen as they were summoned, and even a rough count showed over 30 Lizardmen.

‘Now, it’s over 40…’

Something was wrong.

This made no sense.

Lizardmen are classified as a 5-tier threat when there are 18-20 of them.

Furthermore, for every additional 20 Lizardmen, the tier increases by one. With over 40 of them?

“Everyone, switch to formation C.”

“What? Why suddenly?”

“Hurry!”

Eugene urgently commanded his team members.

Chwaaak!

“Dig.”

At Eugene’s command, the team members spread out, and three wizards in the center simultaneously cast Dig, creating a large hole.

“Everyone, get in as practiced.”

Hwoook!

Eugene gave the order and immediately climbed up an artificial tree.

“Eek! Get in… quickly!”

Aron, who had good eyesight, saw the swarm of Lizardmen from afar, his face turned pale, and he pushed the others into the hole.

Zaaang.

Zuaaang.

The wizards who entered the large hole cast Illusion over the hole to make it invisible and Silence inside the hole to eliminate any sound.

“Why? What’s going on?”

“Out… outside…”

“Outside?”

“So… that means…?”

“Ah, what is it exactly?”

Arid, annoyed by Aron’s stammering, shouted.

“There were dozens of Lizardmen…?”

“Usually, dozens of Lizardmen come out, right?”

“There seemed to be over 40 of them…”

At Aron’s words, the team members all fell silent, their expressions grim.

If only Aron had said this, they would have scolded him for seeing wrong.

But since even their leader Eugene had ordered to switch to formation C, it meant there really were dozens of Lizardmen.

Formation C was originally designed for the team to hide if they were overwhelmed by Lizardmen.

And while the team members recovered their stamina, Eugene would deal with the Lizardmen.

But to switch to formation C from the start…

Something was definitely wrong.

Thump, thump, thump, thump.

Bang!

***

“Ha… Dean, in the testing grounds right now…”

Deiker burst into the dean’s office with an urgent expression.

“…I’m watching too……”

Hobin Jessup, a 9-circle wizard and the dean, and Terren Riod, a sword master, were watching the magic orb with hardened faces.

Whenever the students took a test, not only the education director but also the dean would watch the inside of the testing grounds through a magic orb, and dozens of Lizardmen were visible in their magic orb as well.

“We need to get into the testing grounds immediately.”

Deiker looked at the deans with a pale face.

The spatial magic spread in the testing grounds would automatically block external intrusions or monsters from entering once the test began, cutting off the area from the outside.

Therefore, to enter the testing grounds, they would have to forcibly break through the barrier spell.

However, there was a problem.

The magic currently cast on the testing grounds was a spell sturdily created by Don Dippel, the 11-circle wizard who was the founding dean, so breaking it would take considerable time.

“During that time, Team 5 students will have to hold on well…”

Creek,

Hobin and Terren jumped up from their seats and ran to the testing grounds.

As previously mentioned, there were interference devices within the academy, so teleportation was not possible.

***

‘Damn… what should I do…?’

After erasing his presence on the tree, Eugene looked at the Lizardmen swarming beneath the ground.

There were currently 50 Lizardmen.

Even in terms of tier, they were at least a 6-7 tier threat.

With 50 Lizardmen in front of them, even a 6-tier monster like a Griffin could be easily killed.

This was because Lizardmen were highly intelligent, fought in formation, and were good at using deception.

Additionally, some of them wore armor and some wielded swords, which was unusual for monsters.

“Hmm? Where am I?”

Thunk.

“What… what is it? Why are you coming out from there?”

Eugene was almost startled off the tree when he saw Taeje coming out of a small bag at his waist.

Why was this guy coming out of that bag?

He had clearly seen him sleeping in bed this morning.

“I put this in here.”

Taeje smiled and waved something in his hand.

“What is that?”

“Catnip. Sssss-hah~.”

Taeje had been wandering around the academy whenever Eugene went for training, and had once found a large amount of catnip in a corner of the academy, dug it up, and put it in Eugene’s bag.

The bag Eugene wore at his waist had a decay-prevention spell, making it an excellent place to store catnip.

“What’s with that expression?”

“Nothing…”

Eugene shook his head and sighed.

For a moment, he almost threw Taeje at the Lizardmen.

“Ugh… look at them swarming.”

“Sigh… I guess I have to go down… tsk.”

“Are you going to jump down there? Need help?”

“I’d love to use you, but if I do, the team members might notice. There are not just one or two, but nine people here.”

“You brat… you know how to talk to make someone not want to help.”

“You weren’t going to help anyway, right? You just said that to tease me.”

“Hoho, you’re quick-witted.”

Somehow, Taeje was getting more annoying by the day.

Eugene’s eyes sparkled from atop the tree.

-Rohen.

-Yes, leader.

Eugene sent a telepathic message to Rohen, a team member hiding underground, and Rohen responded naturally to Eugene.

During practice, Eugene had used telepathic communication several times, so the team members thought Eugene was using telepathy magic.

-When I give the signal, all the wizards should launch fire attack spells at the Lizardmen.

-What?! Really attack?

-Yes. We need to time it perfectly, so don’t be late.

-…Got it.

Eugene took a deep breath atop the tree.

-Now.

Hoo.

“Fireball.”

“Wind Cutter.”

“Lighthein.”

“Air Bomb.”

“Fire Bomb.”

“Lightning Arrow.”

Zuaaang.

Hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo.

At Eugene’s signal, the wizards who had been hiding in the hole came up and fired spells at the Lizardmen horde.

All the team members had already reached the 2nd circle, so the power was quite strong.

Boom!

“Kieeek!”

The Lizardmen tried to move quickly due to the team’s magic.

But at that moment.

Whook.

‘Heavenly Weight.’

Boom!

Crash!

As Eugene jumped from the tree and landed on the ground with immense weight, shockwaves and dust clouds rose around him.

Swish.

Eugene, who had landed in the midst of the Lizardmen, drew his sword from his waist.

“Heavenly Killing Sword Technique, Second Form: Illusory Rain Sword.”

Slash! Slash! Slash!

“Kiek?!”

“Kieeek??”

Eugene moved his sword swiftly within the thick dust fog.

He had to kill as many as possible while they were disoriented in the dust.

“Huuuu.”

Eugene adjusted his rapidly depleting internal energy with his breathing while cutting off the Lizardmen’s heads in the dust.

“What? Did you just perform energy circulation?”

As Eugene was frantically slaughtering the Lizardmen, Taeje, who was in Eugene’s bag, looked at him in amazement.

Although it wasn’t as much as when he usually performed energy circulation, Eugene felt a slight flow of internal energy returning to him with each breath.

“Don’t talk to me.”

“This crazy guy…”

Originally, energy circulation could not be done while moving.

This was true for any martial artist.

Energy circulation involves not just storing energy in the dantian, but also filtering out impurities and storing pure energy in the dantian, then moving this energy through the body’s meridians.

So what happens if one performs energy circulation while moving?

The energy moving through the meridians could reverse or cause disturbances, potentially twisting the meridians.

Moreover, doing this while using internal energy for martial arts?

It was sheer madness.

Yet, Eugene was performing energy circulation while wielding his sword.

“Kiek!”

“Kieeek!”

‘These guys… They’re quickly reorganizing their formation.’

While observing the situation through the dust, Eugene noticed the Lizardmen gradually regaining their composure.

Normally, in such a situation, they’d be unable to do anything and would just die, but the Lizardmen, being intelligent monsters, were reading the situation.

‘But I can’t just watch them do that.’

Whook.

‘Heavenly God Art, First Absolute: Earthquake Step.’

Crash.

Boom!

As Eugene stomped the ground hard, the area within a 2-meter radius, including where he stood, started to flip over.

“Kieeek!”

The simultaneous cries of numerous Lizardmen were heard.

But there was a problem.

‘There are still too many Lizardmen.’

Even with his depleting internal energy, there were still too many Lizardmen around.

Judging by the energy he sensed, quite a number seemed to be heading towards the scattered team members, yet there were still many around Eugene.

“Need help?”

Taeje spoke to Eugene, who was sweating.

“No.”

If Taeje grew large now, he would be easily seen by others.

‘What should I do…’

At that moment.

Whiiiing.

A gentle breeze blew near Eugene.

“Ah!”

Eugene’s face brightened as he seemed to recall something.

‘I have that.’

It was the spirit.

Wooong.

Pop!

“Did you call for me, Eugene… Aack!”

As soon as it appeared, Sylph screamed because of the Lizardman next to it.

“Goodness, that startled me…”

“Hey, Sylph.”

“Yes, Master Eugene.”

“Imbue my energy with the power of the wind.”

Wooong.

Without any formal greetings, Eugene began to gather all the remaining inner energy he had.

Whoosh!

As Eugene gathered all his remaining inner energy and created a white flame in his hand, Sylph imbued the flame with the power of the wind.

It was obvious that using all his inner energy like this would lead to exhaustion and fainting, but this wasn’t the time to worry about that.

Whoooosh!

Normally, the martial art he was performing now would be the second technique of the Heavenly Killing Divine Art, the White Fire Bow, which was a white arrow-shaped technique.

However, with Sylph’s power added, the White Fire Bow took on a different form.

“Heavenly Killing Divine Art Transformation: White Flower Full Bloom.”

Kuuuuu.

Boooom!

Eugene released the white flame around his body, and the large, white blaze began to engulf the Lizardmen one by one.

Act 86

Prev I TOC I Next

Due to the cramped space, the magic energy flowing from the sealed cabin was intensely nerve-wracking. Behind Julian, a grotesquely twisted demon was visible.

Linne had seen many creatures, but this was her first encounter with a demon so vile and repulsive. Moreover, the demon had two horns on its head.

“It’s a two-horned demon.”

This meant that the demon was powerful enough to tear apart an ordinary person in an instant.

However, Linne was not particularly frightened. Although her ‘aura’ was not yet fully developed and held her back somewhat, she had strong allies right by her side.

“It’s just a ‘two-horned’ demon,” Julian remarked, his gently curved eyes sharpening further.

Was he pleased to encounter the demon, or was it confidence that this level of threat was not enough to challenge him?

Ssshh.

With a short chuckle, Julian drew his sword made from ‘moonstone,’ and Linne’s sense of relief became even more pronounced.

The master of demon slaying, an expert’s hands promised that the situation would somehow be resolved, and a small trust blossomed in her.

“A two-horned demon has stronger regenerative and physical capabilities than ordinary demons, making it a very dangerous foe,” Julian casually murmured as if scared of the ‘two-horned,’ but Linne knew.

She knew that this situation was not difficult for him at all.

“Crazy, it’s a two-horned demon.”

***

Facing the demon before me, I inwardly cursed. Though I had used some tricks, I had experience capturing a ‘three-horned’ class demon. Based on that experience, defeating a two-horned demon should not feel difficult.

Considering the location…

We are inside a moving train. It was an emergency situation that required an abrupt stop, but this train can only decelerate when it enters a station, unless interfered with ‘externally.’

And that ‘external’ interference would be if this demon caused havoc leading to a derailment.

Grrr!

The demon groaned lowly, lifted its head, and began surveying its surroundings before its eyes met mine.

Its body was swollen, with pieces of the staff uniform of the Resonance Train terribly torn and hanging from it. It seems it used fake horns.

‘One of the staff was a member of the Dawn Society.’

Quickly identifying the demon’s true nature, I surveyed the cabin, which was relatively spacious compared to others.

One whole carriage was dedicated to VVIPs. In a corner, Ulysses, covered in blood, was trembling.

Seeing him, a wave of negative thoughts flashed through my mind.

Ugh.

Though I am only temporarily in charge…

-‘As the captain of the royal guard, what have you actually done?’

The chief of staff, Seden, would likely berate me and hold me accountable. A special disciplinary committee would be formed, and the council, already eager to rid themselves of a thorn in their side, would eagerly seize this opportunity to oust me.

‘I’m screwed.’

But still, it’s not too late.

Isn’t the prince still alive?

In order to overcome this situation even now, I infused mana into the Moonblade, and took a step forward.

‘I need to draw his attention to me.’

As the sword began to glow faintly, the demon’s gaze focused on me.

‘Good!’

Crack.

Once more, as the creature groaned and cocked its head in confusion, I quickly pushed off the ground to close the distance with the demon.

“Sir Julian! The demon’s blood and saliva contain poison!”

Damn! You should have told me that earlier.

Despite Ulysses’s urgent shout, I, resolved to act swiftly, couldn’t afford to stop.

I immediately slashed at the demon’s left leg, closing the distance.

The demon, larger than a whole Felkor, made it easy for the blade to reach.

Squeak!

Blood spurted from the demon’s skin where the Moonlight Sword had cut.

One might think, ‘It’s just some blood,’ but the problem was that the demon’s viscous blood scattered into the air and turned into steam.

‘This must be what Ulysses was talking about.’

It seems to be the type that oxidizes upon contact with air, a reaction that happens.

If that’s the case, being near that steam is dangerous.

Stepping back from where the air had turned purplish, I began to devise a plan.

‘This is the worst kind of demon in an enclosed space.’

I’m not panicked since this isn’t my first time seeing such a creature.

Although many strategies come to mind, it’s still difficult to deal with.

Typically, it’s advantageous to fight with the wind at one’s back, but here, not a breeze stirs.

“The demon’s blood seems to turn into a poisonous mist when it contacts the air.”

“That appears to be the case.”

I know.

“What should we do? If we kill it like this, the corpse will continue to emit toxic mist.”

As Linne said, even if we kill this demon, the toxic gas from its corpse will completely fill this carriage.

We could first handle it and then move Ulysses, but.

Leaving the gas unattended could lead to an explosion if there’s even a small flame, so we can’t just leave it be.

Is there a good solution? While pondering, something crossed my mind.

A scene I once saw on TV.

‘If leaving it is dangerous, then removing it is the answer.’

It’s fortunate that this carriage is at the very back.

“Miss Linne.”

“Yes?”

“Could you please move Prince Ulysses to the front carriage?”

“…Wouldn’t it be better to work together to take down the demon instead?”

“Is that the extent of your abilities?”

Smirk.

My smiling face, obviously clear without seeing.

“I’ll handle it myself, so please just follow my instructions.”

But Linne, usually different, was just staring at me blankly.

Is this not enough to convince?

Just as I was about to think of other persuasive words,

“Okay.”

Surprisingly, Linne readily agreed.

As she ran toward Ulysses, the demon’s eyes darted around and then focused on her.

Feeling this, I quickly extended my sword toward the core of the demon and swung it.

Of course, I didn’t think this would be enough to handle it, but the demon simply raised both hands and defended itself.

Thud!

Though it blocked the attack, it seems it couldn’t avoid getting injured.

Sizzle!

When the blood from the deep gash touched the Moonblade, it transformed into mist through a chemical reaction.

Originally, such a reaction could have damaged the blade, but the aura of the ‘Moonlight Sword’ prevented this.

‘That smell, really noxious.’

If I increase the wounds further, I’ll have to inhale plenty of that poisonous gas.

“Sir Julian, that’s enough!”

Just then, I heard Linne’s cry.

‘Good! From here…’

Concentrating mana in my right foot, I kicked the demon as if pushing it away.

An incredible combination of strength and aura.

Boom!

Thanks to that, the demon was pushed to the very back of the train.

“Grunt, growl.”

Naturally, the demon didn’t fall just from a kick, but that was enough.

“Move, Miss Linne.”

“Yes, yes!?”

“Move to the next car!”

Initially puzzled, Linne quickly followed me, supporting the prince as I dashed out.

“Scream!”

Then, the pushed demon roared loudly and started running toward us.

Thud thud thud.

It looked quite ferocious as it clumsily charged, knocking everything aside.

Seeing Prince Ulysses and Linne pass through the connection between the train cars, I swung my sword at the demon once again.

Thump!

The creature blocked again with its arm and retreated, but this attack was not meant to inflict a wound.

It was merely to buy time.

I then took a step back and jumped over to the next car.

The fierce face of the demon rushing as if to break down the door was getting closer.

“What are you planning to do, Sir Julian!”

Ignoring Linne’s urgent cry, I plunged my drawn sword into the train’s coupling.

Thunk.

The sword, enveloped in aura, penetrated easily, surpassing ordinary strength.

Now, I just need to cut this off.

“What are you trying to do now?!”

“It seems we need to do some sorting.”

“Are you thinking of detaching this car?

“It’s impossible! The coupling is made of magically treated steel……….”

<Remarkable Intuition>

<Insight>

Clang!

Contrary to Linne’s words, the steel coupling easily cracked.

Even if it was magically treated, Julian’s keen eyesight and traits allowed him to easily spot its weaknesses.

“Ugh.”

However, despite the clear crack, it was impossible to completely sever the connector.

“Look at that! As expected, it’s tough to cut through the connector with a sword… Huh?”

I began to channel ‘Sombra’ into the Moonblade.

‘If it’s lacking, I’ll have to fill it up.’

The insufficient power could be compensated by using the recoil between ‘Sombra’ and the Moonblade.

Crack!

Once again, with the sound of breaking, the connector was completely severed.

‘Farewell,’ I thought as I looked at the demon, which then ran to the end of the train and leaped towards us.

‘What a long jump!’

Thump!

With one kick, the demon that was tumbling on the ground soon roared at us.

“Scream!”

It tried to jump but, being just a demon, it couldn’t keep up with the speed of the train and soon disappeared into a dot.

Watching this series of actions, Linne stared at me blankly, then looked at the receding VIP car.

“But what about the detached carriage? The Mage Tower could hold us responsible.”

The head of the Resonance Train is the notoriously fastidious Mage Tower. Because of this, Linne looked worried.

“That will be handled by the all-powerful Little Sun of the Empire, Prince Ulysses.”

What will the Mage Tower do? We have the royal family behind us now.

***

Upon arriving at our destination, the border city of Berniden, the busy appearance of the station caught my eye.

Apparently, the visit by the Fourth Prince, along with the loss of a carriage, had brought the officials running.

“Prince Ulysses, are you all right!?”

“Look at this wound! What was the captain of the guard doing?”

Officials, angry about the prince’s injury, began to attack me using his royal presence as a shield.

It seems they hadn’t thought about the consequences.

I’m Julian.

“Stop, it was my own doing.”

“But Prince Ulysses…………”

“I wanted to sort out my thoughts alone, so I kept the captain of the guard in another car. That was my mistake.”

“Still, they should have anticipated this attack and prepared!”

Clomp clomp.

As I approached, the noble raising his voice couldn’t continue.

“Now, in front of whom are you raising your voice?”

“No, I was just….”

“That’s disrespectful. Your words and actions were against the will of Prince Ulysses… no, the royal family.”

Clatter!

Slowly, as I moved my hand towards the sheath at my waist, the air around us grew heavy.

The Smiling Executioner.

Even without a system, many know the name and what happens when he invokes the name of the ‘royal family.’

“How about we stop this, Sir Julian?”

Before anything could happen, Ulysses intervened to mediate.

Naturally, I had no intention of drawing my sword here. This was just a performance for my future self.

“Yes, I apologize, Prince Ulysses.”

After bowing politely, I glanced at the noble who had been raising his voice.

“The position of ‘Emperor’ in the Adratan Empire does not question gender but demands the nobility of blood. Hence, Ulysses, who has not only three brothers but also four sisters, is far from the line of succession to the throne. Nonetheless, the nobility of his blood does not fade. Under normal circumstances, the original ‘Julian’ would have been pleased to have a reason to celebrate. But I’m not a lunatic. Absolutely not.

Despite being wounded, Ulysses’s resolve to head to the Holy Nation did not waver; he refused to give up until the end, primarily for his own foundation. It was a matter of life and death, so he seemed unwilling to give up.

“Sir Julian, thank you for your hard work.”

“Yes.”

“We have arrested the attackers who raided the train.”

While looking around the station, members of the ‘Closed Eyes’ stationed in the border town approached. They had already apprehended members of the Dawn Society who had raided the train with the border guards.

“By any chance, was there one bald, large-built guy among the attackers?”

I specifically mentioned Felkor among them. A member of the Closed Eyes nodded first in response to my question.

“Yes, there is.”

“Then, please just release that person.”

“…What? Is there a reason?”

The member asked as if perplexed by my statement. Just do as I say. I have my reasons.

***

Felkor, a former member of the Azure Lion Knights, rubbed the wound he had previously received from Julian, which was throbbing painfully. He knew why this particular wound throbbed unusually; the person who had inflicted it was walking right in front of him.

“Ugh…”

Felkor looked at his arm. Handcuffs meant to restrain criminals bound his wrists. Having only ever used them, but never experienced them himself, Felkor felt a cold sweat running down his back due to the tension.

“How far do you plan to go!”

“Keep quiet.”

Despite his complaints, Julian did nothing but tell him to be quiet and gave no other response. There was no chance of escape. His hands were tied, and Julian was superior in both mana and physical abilities. He was still alive due to Julian’s whims, but upsetting him could really result in his head disappearing from his neck.

“Look, Julian. I don’t even know why Aidan gave such an order! After Alphas died, my position in the order became ambiguous……………”

“Is that so?”

Even as he confessed past events, Julian seemed uninterested.

How many minutes had passed? As they moved far enough from the border city of Berniden that its lights no longer illuminated the night, Julian muttered to himself.

“This should be good.”

Click.

Julian unlocked Felkor’s handcuffs.

“Huh?”

With a dumbfounded expression, he looked at Julian.

‘What’s his motive?’

Felkor, looking at him for a moment, tentatively poked at the idea.

“So, that’s it. You brought me all the way here to release me! After all, there would be too many prying eyes if you did it in the city!”

“Heh.”

Instead of a reply, Julian just showed a brief chuckle.

“Well, considering how much I know, it would be troublesome for you if I got caught! After all, you belong to the ‘Closed Eyes’ of the royal institution…. Huh?”

Click.

Interrupting Felkor’s rambling, Julian handed him a stick he was holding. It was a dark night with no visible light, so Felkor couldn’t make out its shape well, but upon closer inspection, he began to discern its contours.

Is this… a shovel?

“Julian! Why are you giving this to me?”

“Do you not know the purpose of a shovel?”

Though smiling as usual, there was something blatantly foolish in the tone that slightly angered Felkor.

“To dig up, or to bury something………….”

To bury something.

The ‘something’ that could be filled in was endless.

“You seem to know well. So, will you dig? Make it wide and large.”

Grinning.

Unlike Julian, who was smiling, Felkor’s face turned pale.

‘Am I to dig my own grave…?’

Round 38

Prev | TOC | Next

The items purchased from the dungeon supply store were delivered to my house. I heard that the delivery would be made within a day, so I decided to stay home for the day.

“Ara, do you want to sleep with grandma?”

“No.”

Ara, who had changed clothes at some point, shook her head and clung to my leg. Her drowsy appearance was adorable.

“She still likes you the most.”

“Haha.”

My father looked at me with envy and went into his room.

My mother, unable to give up, lingered and called Ara for a while before entering her room with a dejected expression.

Regardless, Ara, rubbing her sleepy eyes, toddled off to the bed first.

“Aren’t you going to sleep?”

“Just a little longer.”

Seon-ah stood at the door, watching Ara with a mischievous expression. That kid looked a bit scary.

“Kyu-seong Kyu-seong .”

“Yes, Ara.”

“Our home is nice.”

Ara’s mumbling was both funny and cute.

In the end, Seon-ah, captivated by the scene, pushed me aside and tried to take over but was easily subdued.

“Since it’s close, let’s come more often.”

“Sure.”

Soon enough, Ara fell asleep, and I watched over her for a while before slowly closing my eyes.

* * *

The next morning, I checked the packages that had arrived in front of the house.

“Why did you buy so much?”

My mother looked surprised as she examined the dungeon supplies I bought. I borrowed a suitcase from the house and stuffed the items inside.

“Brother, are you going to explore a dungeon?”

“No, not exactly…”

Strictly speaking, exploring the Dungeon of Gluttony was similar to dungeon exploration, but it was a bit ambiguous.

According to Ara, it was a safe place, different from what we usually think of as a dungeon.

“I’ll invite you when I get the chance.”

“What are you talking about? Invite where?”

I ignored Jae-seong’s question and stood up. There was a lot of luggage, and it would have been impossible to carry it all at once if I wasn’t an awakened one.

Thankfully, the magic stone tent was compressed into a small size, making it easier to handle. Though it didn’t reduce the weight, it was compact enough to fit in a pocket.

“I’ll be going now.”

“Can’t you leave Ara here?”

“No, I’ll bring her next time.”

Without Ara, I couldn’t even enter the Dungeon of Gluttony. She acted as a kind of key and also served as my bodyguard. Besides, I couldn’t imagine life without her anymore.

“They say raising a son is useless; you’re so heartless.”

“I’ll be back soon. In the meantime, why don’t you look around for a place to set up the restaurant or something.”

“Got it.”

As I stepped out the door, my mother and Jae-seong followed. My father and Seon-ah had already left early in the morning.

“Goodbye! Bye-bye~!”

Ara waved her hands energetically.

My mother also stood at the door for a long time, waving back.

“Come again! Our home!”

“Yes, let’s come again. Did you like it that much?”

“I liked it! The Grand Lord is nice, and so are Jae-seong and Seon-ah! They are nice!”

Listening to Ara’s cheerful chatter like a radio, we soon returned to the dungeon.

As soon as I arrived, I put down my luggage and checked if there were any unusual occurrences.

“Everything okay?”

Squirm!

Poispois stepped forward as the representative to report. However, all it did was squirm around.

Before heading to the Dungeon of Gluttony, I checked the cooldown of my abilities that was gradually approaching.

‘Create a slime, perform liquid synthesis twice, then head out.’

There was no need to worry about creating slimes, as I did it regularly, and I used liquid synthesis every day for fruit juice once and slime synthesis once.

“It’s time to try the gacha again.”

Recently, my slime synthesis had been consistently combining two level 1 Rookies. Since the abilities of the already created slimes were fixed, synthesizing them further to increase their level didn’t have much meaning.

Of course, I could continue to grow the ones with farming abilities like Mark 2 or poison abilities like Poispois, but I didn’t feel the immediate need, so I kept producing new level 2 slimes.

‘So far, I have 9 level 2 slimes, and none of them have had useful abilities.’

Water spraying, body inflation, daydreaming, acrobatics, skin breathing, etc.

Excluding Mark 2 and Poispois, the abilities that emerged were rather ambiguous. However, I couldn’t stop synthesizing because there was always a chance of getting a useful ability like Mark 2 or Poispois.

“Ooh! A new Rookie!”

As soon as the cooldown ended, I summoned a new Rookie. Then I immediately synthesized it with an existing Rookie.

[Slime LV.1 and Slime LV.1 are being synthesized.]

[The merging slimes share all memories and experiences.]

[Slime LV.2 is completed.]

What will it be this time?

[Slime LV.2]

[An ordinary slime.]

[Capable of liquid synthesis.]

[Ability: Body Slam LV.1]

“Another unique one.”

Body Slam, huh… Just in case, I decided to test it out.

“Body slam me.”

Squirm!

The newly leveled-up slime nodded in agreement and prepared itself. Then, it crawled towards me at full speed.

Squirm- Squirm-

“…”

It was supposed to be full speed, but it was extremely slow.

After about 10 seconds, the slime finally arrived and poured out its passionate effort.

With this acceleration from full speed, I will now demonstrate the ultimate body slam!

It seemed to say.

Thud.

“…”

“…”

The slime bumped into my feet and looked up as if asking how it did. It was definitely a body slam, but aside from making my pant leg a bit wet, nothing else happened.

Is this really it? Ara and I were speechless as we looked at the slime.

Squirm! Squirm!

How was it? This is my ability, Body Slam! You must have felt an enormous shock, but as expected, our Great Lord doesn’t even blink!

“…It was quite a shock. In a different sense.”

Compared to the other slimes, this body slam slime had a strong personality and was rather cheerful.

I named it Bachi and scratched my head.

‘It’s a bit disappointing.’

I always felt some disappointment, but today it felt even stronger. Probably because Bachi’s antics had made me unconsciously hopeful.

“Oh well, I don’t care. Today, I’ll use both liquid synthesis attempts on slimes.”

When I muttered to myself, the Rookies, having heard the news, squirmed their way over.

As if they had predetermined their turns among themselves, the slimes lined up excitedly.

“You’ve even come up with a system. Alright then, let’s start with you two.”

I wondered if they might dislike being synthesized, but from the looks of it, they were eager to go first. I placed the two Rookies in my hand and used liquid synthesis again.

Swoosh!

The slimes merged instantly and became a level 2 slime.

“What is it this time?”

Before I knew it, Ara, with an intense gleam in her eyes like a gambling addict, asked about the result. I took a deep breath and checked.

[Slime LV.2]

[An ordinary slime.]

[Capable of liquid synthesis.]

[Ability: Space Expansion LV.1]

“Oh? Ohhh?”

What is this? Space Expansion? What kind of ability is that?

Surprised, I let out a yell, and Ara, climbing up my body in frustration, asked directly in my ear.

“What ability did it get?”

“Space Expansion!”

“Space Expansion? Is it something you eat?”

I needed to verify this ability properly. If it was what I thought it was…

“Show me your ability.”

Upon hearing the command, the space expansion slime started to swallow the nearby dungeon supplies.

“No, you can’t eat that! It’s not food!”

“Hold on, Ara. Let’s wait and see.”

The slime eventually swallowed all the items effortlessly and looked at me as if nothing had happened.

“Can you spit it back out?”

Squirm!

The slime, nodding as if it was a given, regurgitated all the items it had swallowed. They seemed a bit damp, but it confirmed everything.

“It’s a space expansion item!”

To be precise, it was a slime that functioned as a space expansion item. I never expected such an ability, and it felt like an unexpected gift.

‘I wonder how much it can hold.’

It wasn’t a small amount. Considering it had swallowed quite a few items without any issue, it seemed promising.

Moreover, this was just a level 2 slime. If I continued to synthesize and increase its level, the space would likely expand further.

“This is perfect. We can take it to the Dungeon of Gluttony.”

“What’s happening? What kind of ability is that?”

“It acts like a bag.”

“A bag?!”

Ara looked at the space expansion slime with a peculiar gaze. Was it the look of seeing a competitor?

‘She probably thinks the slime can eat a lot because of its recent behavior.’

Amused by her unnecessary worry, I smiled.

“Don’t worry, there will always be enough to eat. And even if there’s not, you’ll always come first.”

“As expected of Kyu-seong Kyu-seong!”

Relieved, Ara happily played with the space expansion slime, poking it gently.

“We should give it a name.”

“Can I name it?”

“Sure, go ahead, Ara.”

Ara was thrilled but then grew serious as she contemplated the perfect name.

“What name would you like to have?”

Squirm?

“You don’t care what it is? How can you say that? It’s your name!”

As I watched their peculiar conversation, I slowly got ready and checked the farm. Since I didn’t know how many days we would spend in the Dungeon of Gluttony, I made sure everything was in order.

‘I’m taking Mark 2 this time as well.’

Mark 2, Poispois, the space expansion slime, and Ara. It was going to be a small group.

“Kyu-seong Kyu-seong! I’ve decided on a name!”

“Oh? What is it?”

Since Ara had named it, I was curious to see what she came up with.

“Vegetable Stir-fry!”

“Vegetable Stir-fry?

Was I expecting too much?

Ara must have sensed my odd reaction because she started fidgeting and said,

“Th-then how about Sweet Potatoes?”

“Sweet Potatoes?”

“Ugh…”

Naming seemed difficult for Ara as her eyes began to spin.

“Let’s just go with Vegetable Stir-fry. It’s fine.”

“Oh! So it’s okay? Hehe! Vegetable Stir-fry!”

“Well, it’s…”

The name “Vegetable Stir-fry” felt a bit much. I decided to find a compromise.

“How about Bokkeum?”

“Bokkeum?”

“Yeah.”

“Oh! That’s good! Even if it’s not a vegetable, it can still be Bokkeum!”

Thus, the space expansion slime was named Bokkeum.

I could tell Ara put some thought into it and that it had a special meaning to her since food was very precious and important to her.

… At least, I hope that’s the case?

“Are we heading out now?”

“Yes. Thanks to Bokkeum, our luggage is lighter, so we can leave right away.”

I called Mark 2 and Poispois, informing them that we were going on a trip. We prepared food for the Dungeon of Gluttony and instructed Bokkeum to swallow our supplies.

‘This is so convenient! And it can move too?’

Bokkeum didn’t gain any weight after swallowing the luggage. I didn’t understand the principle behind it, but it was superior to most space expansion items.

With everything ready, we headed to the entrance of the Dungeon of Gluttony.

– The owner of the dungeon, Gluttony’s Gula, is being confirmed.

– Entry is permitted.

– Remaining magic: 7/10

I had glossed over it last time, but what does this “remaining magic” mean? I think it was 8 initially, and now it’s decreased.

Seeing the remaining magic drop didn’t seem like a good sign, but I had little information for now.

Let’s focus on exploring for now.

“This time, the goal is the Shiny Tree.”

“Ooh!”

We saw the barrier again and stepped into the Dungeon of Gluttony.
