Strike 105

Prev I TOC I Next

Upon arriving at the Araham domain, Hyun-soo was on his way to meet Commander Philip.

It was then that he quickly reacted to the sound of a soldier filled with terror.

Hyun-soo’s vision captured a shell glowing red and showing signs of an explosion.

Before the shell exploded, Hyun-soo quickly activated the lord’s command to contain the explosion.

This power was not absolute either, and due to a bit of clumsiness in control, he sent it soaring into the sky.

Boom!

With a loud explosion, Hyun-soo let out a small sigh of relief.

And then he was conscious of the gazes around him.

Nobles or knights.

Or commanders.

Hyun-soo thought they should not be greatly disturbed.

“Their disturbance soon spreads to those around them.”

Therefore, he tried to act as if nothing had happened and patted the shoulder of the soldier in front of him just a moment ago.

“Are you okay?”

“Yes…! Thank you for saving me! But, who are you?”

“I’m Hyun-soo, a Viscount . I came to see the commander.”

Soon, Hyun-soo was able to find Commander Philip, who was looking at him.

“Magic…?”

Commander Philip was quite surprised.

It was the first time he had seen such a strange power.

And wasn’t the blacksmith showing a power like magic?

But soon, Philip corrected his thought.

“Is this the power that Duke Luckburg spoke of?”

Duke Luckburg had emphasized continuously.

“He stopped the assassins with a mysterious power, and the paladins cut them down.”

Certainly, this power could be considered peculiar, but the thought occurs whether it can be compared to a knight in terms of force.

Soon, he approached and bowed.

“Knight Hyun-soo, I am Commander Philip.”

“Let me express my gratitude, thanks to you, we were able to prevent the sacrifice of soldiers.”

Philip was a person who strictly distinguished between public and private matters.

He gives praise where it is due.

Sincerely, Philip was grateful to Hyun-soo.

[Your intimacy with Philip has increased.]

Philip immediately got to the point.

“This place is not only a training ground for soldiers but also a place where knights learn command and leadership, and to qualify as leaders. I will assign you 30 soldiers. If you enter the extermination area with these soldiers, kill the ogre chieftains, and complete 20% of the extermination, that will be enough. One thing to note, do not ever enter the forest filled with blue leaves, a place where knights and extermination squads of your level should not enter.”

Ding!

[Kingdom Quest: Ogre Chieftain Hunt]

Rank: A

Requirement: Viscount

Reward: Three soldiers.

Penalty for Failure: Title Revocation.

Description: As a Viscount, you have taken your first step. Return safely after completing the extermination.

Hyun-soo knew that in quests formatted with percentages, the reward increases astronomically the more you achieve.

He recalled the time when he was raising the development rate of the Balas domain.

Hyun-soo had been given a development rate of 20% and had achieved over 100%.

What was the reward he received then?

‘I gained 100 charisma stats and was unexpectedly bestowed with a forge.’

Looking back, Hyun-soo wondered if one of the reasons Bard had him in mind as a successor was because of this.

“What are the ways to increase the development rate?”

“It’s simple. The soldiers must not get injured as much as possible, and if they grow and have loyalty towards the knight leading them, it will increase. Additionally, you have a total of two weeks here. If you carry out additional exterminations within that time, you can increase it.”

“Understood.”

“Prepare to depart in 30 minutes.”

As Philip was about to turn away, Hyun-soo asked another question.

“May I ask one more thing?”

“What is it?”

“Why does someone as esteemed as Commander Philip stay in this Araham domain?”

[Commander Philip Lv.341]

In the case of NPCs, having the same level as a user does not necessarily mean they are on the same level.

This is especially true for named NPCs or those in command ranks.

Philip was Araham’s commander and a high-level NPC at level 341.

And currently, in the Araham domain, including Duke Luckburg, seven nobles had been demoted here.

The Araham domain that Hyun-soo saw firsthand had lost its function as a domain.

Domains should be places where the people farm or produce specialty goods to sustain their livelihoods.

Moreover, it is right for the domain’s residents to live there.

However, many residents of the Araham domain had already moved away, leaving only soldiers and knights.

Their role was to guard the fringes of the Goyard Kingdom, preventing monsters from crossing over.

It might seem like an important mission, but in the end, they were those who struggled daily on the final front.

“…This is the first time someone has asked me this question.”

Philip was internally surprised. It was a sharp question.

“There is no task more noble than protecting the people from monsters, now go prepare for the departure.”

“Understood.”

Hyun-soo did not ask further. After he left, Philip personally selected the soldiers.

“Sigh…”

He sighed.

There had been too many soldiers annihilated recently by foreign commanders.

Philip was upset by the needless loss of lives.

“This must not happen again.”

Thus, Philip approached one soldier.

“Kahn, disguise yourself as a regular soldier and protect the others.”

“Understood.”

Philip felt reassured seeing Kahn.

It was an odd sight to others, and Kahn asked cautiously.

“…But, Commander. Are we just going to disappear into history like this?”

Philip couldn’t say anything to Kahn’s sad gaze.

The knight named Hyun-soo had seen correctly.

Philip, a war hero, was not supposed to be here but had been assigned this mission by the king long ago.

“Raise soldiers who can even cut down the enemy’s knights.”

That was the task given to him just 20 years ago.

Since then, the war hero Philip had been secretly training soldiers.

They started training from a young age.

At the time, Philip did not understand the king’s command.

Why raise soldiers when you could make knights?

Over time, Philip came to understand its meaning.

Knights and soldiers are distinctly different, given the higher status of knights. In times of war, enemies target knights first.

A more crucial reason is that being simply called “soldiers” can catch enemies off guard.

Enemy leaders tend to underestimate soldiers.

Indeed, at that time, individuals who could not reach knight-level talent through magic power measurement were selected.

In the land of Ares, magical power is a measure of strength.

In reality, they had reached their limits at a certain level.

Yet, interestingly, they were as strong as knights.

This was due to “real combat experience, skill, and experience.”

Though their natural capacity was limited, they developed knight-level strength through unique experiences and real combat.

They were known as the Gale Squad, now fading into history.

Originally, they were trained for assassinating heroes of other nations or for escorting major nobles.

However, for various reasons, the Gale Squad was abandoned here.

There were two reasons why they remained hidden in this place.

One was that endless monster extermination allowed them to continuously hone their skills.

The second reason was to find a lord they could serve.

“…It’s already been 10 years since the disbandment, it’s going to be difficult for you and the few remaining members to find the knight you’re looking for.”

The king too felt sorry for them.

Therefore, he gave them a choice.

If there is someone you wish to serve, then serve them.

The problem was, finding a lord worthy of the Gale Squad was not easy.

They were looking for knights here who could soar higher and farther.

“This too is an important mission.”

Yet, Kahn’s expression did not show signs of improvement.

“I think I will seek an audience with His Majesty to discuss this issue.”

“…I will be waiting.”

A hint of color returned to Kahn’s face.

And Philip mounted his horse for the first time in years to seek an audience with the king.

***

Hyun-soo looked at the 30 or so soldiers assembled before him.

[Soldier Kin Lv.201]

[Soldier Lock Lv.198]

The soldiers’ levels seemed mostly similar.

And Hyun-soo saw fear etched on their faces.

Indeed, one soldier asked with a feigned look of fear.

“Expedition leader, is it true that your level is really around the 220s?”

Hyun-soo could not lie.

“That’s correct. But there’s no need to worry.”

The soldiers’ faces turned pale.

The average level of knights here is 290.

It’s natural to be concerned with a blacksmith in the 220s leading them.

But Hyun-soo knew he just had to show them.

‘How much can we increase the extermination rate?’

Soon, Hyun-soo spoke with conviction.

“We depart.”

***

Three days later, at the border between the Goyard Kingdom and the Frahm Kingdom.

In just three days, Philip was able to meet Bard not in the capital.

“Your Majesty, can’t we affiliate the Gale Squad with the royal family?”

Bard was firm.

“You know that’s impossible.”

Philip was aware of this fact.

They could not be integrated into the royal family.

Soldiers with the bizarre ability to defeat even knights.

The royal family would doubt their identity, and the Gale Squad, which had been raised in utmost secrecy, would likely be exposed to the world.

“…I’ve said it before, I would give them treasures to take responsibility for their lifetime.”

Bard was a man of his word.

But the Gale Squad was resolute.

“Their true mission was to secretly protect the king. Having lived their lives that way, it would be difficult for them to live peacefully.”

Bard sighed.

“You said, if there’s a knight who can exceed an extermination rate of 60%, the Gale Squad would follow them without question.”

Bard shook his head.

“There has been no one who has exceeded 40% so far, the level you’re asking for is too high.”

He knew that. But that wasn’t what Philip wanted.

What the remaining members of the Gale Squad wanted.

In the end, Philip gained nothing.

Three days.

In just those three days, Philip returned to the Araham domain with drooping shoulders and immediately got busy.

Today was the day of the soldier assignment ceremony.

This ceremony was an event in the Araham domain.

As the commander, he couldn’t miss this event, so he hastily took the stage.

Philip saw 1,056 soldiers lined up before him.

These soldiers were to be assigned to knights, who could not be present at this event.

Five knights had conducted exterminations over the week.

Philip first wanted to ask if there was anyone willing to serve Knight Ken from the Balroco territory.

“Is there anyone who wishes to serve Knight Ken…?”

“Commander.”

At that moment, a soldier raised his hand.

Philip, looking puzzled, gestured for him to speak.

“We all wish to serve a knight.”

“…All?”

Philip looked puzzled.

1,056 soldiers.

Did they all wish to serve the same knight?

Philip asked with a surprised expression.

“And who would that be?”

“Sir Hyun-soo, the Viscount .”

Hearing this, Philip let out a hollow laugh.

He asked them again, marveling at their response.

“So, all 1,056 soldiers. You all wish to serve Viscount  Hyun-soo?”

“Yes!!!”

“We wish to serve him!”

“Please send us to Viscount  Hyun-soo!”

Philip saw in their eyes the desire to be with Viscount  Hyun-soo.

He looked at Kahn with wavering eyes.

Kahn’s eyes were brimming with tears.

Philip saw the other members of the Gale Squad as well.

They too were nodding slowly with resolute eyes.

Philip was astonished.

‘What on earth happened while I was away?’

*Change of plan! I’ll personally smash the skulls of those who retreat. Even if it means death, reclaim our target at all costs!*

In the face of an unfavorable battlefield, a demon turned his head back and sternly warned his subordinates not to flee.

A sudden shift to a battle stance akin to that of a fierce warrior.

“Ha! Mere humans, this is too precious for you to hold, isn’t it?”

As if that wasn’t enough, Lexton, grasping the front of his robe that had been enveloping him, revealed himself with a sly grin as he tore it apart with his strength.

His appearance was quite violent.

A face full of scars from countless battles.

Horns rising above his head, emanating magical power.

For the sake of stealth or ease of movement, a lizard’s tail as thick as a log trailed down from his leather armor.

“Give it to me, now!”

Lexton roared.

His eyes gleamed with greed, fitting for a malevolent dragon.

I tossed what I was holding into the air and caught it, tilting my head in confusion.

“Ha-ha. I won’t give it up easily, you know? The rental fee is quite high.”

“Hmph, only worth your life, perhaps.”

With a single leap.

He kicked off the ground, creating a gust of wind.

In an instant, he was upon me.

Specifically, towards the treasure of the gargoyle, closing the distance.

‘That’s disgustingly huge.’

Even without his horns, Lexton stood a full head taller than me, easily.

The pressure emanating from his large frame.

I licked my lips feeling as if his very presence was bearing down on me.

-Bang!

As expected.

His attack, transmitted beyond the reach of Raven claw, felt incredibly heavy, as much as his size suggested.

“You’re ridiculously strong!”

“Ha-ha! You, on the other hand, have become too weak for someone who used to stretch so far!”

Truly boss-level.

It was impractical to face him head-on.

Moreover, his attacks were not only aimed at me.

“Ugh!”

“What kind of wind pressure is this…!”

“Everyone, be wary of the enemy leader’s attacks! Just swinging a hammer can break our formation!”

The formation of the noble family’s soldiers surrounding Lexton’s subordinates wavered.

The wind pressure from his sheer brute strength.

And the vibration created as the hammer pounded the ground.

Just his attacks alone were causing a delay in the annihilation of the demons.

“I’ll smash that head of yours and take that treasure right away!”

As if he already had the treasure in his hand.

Lexton’s face was filled with a fierce smile as he swung his warhammer, his voice full of confidence.

Objectively, the battlefield seemed to be at a disadvantage for us.

Despite this, a different emotion dominated my heart rather than worry.

‘Ah, I’m looking forward to this.’

When that ecstasy plummets to despair in an instant.

I wonder what kind of expression he will make.

Just imagining it makes me salivate with a thrilling excitement.

“Hehe. Even now, if you hand it over, maybe I’ll show you mercy?”

“If you laugh that wickedly, even your trusted ones might run away.”

The heavy hammer’s gravity trying to press down on me.

However,

‘The target is too obvious.’

I saw it all.

The previous words, the direction of the killing intent, and even the trajectory of the weapon.

All the information was headed my way.

“What?!”

And such an overt attack, it would be harder not to dodge.

The moment the war hammer pointed to the sky.

I dashed towards him, skimming the ground.

[Lexton is a skill boss]

[This guy’s attacks are just incredibly straightforward. Each attack could nearly be instant death, but there’s a long delay beforehand, so just stepping out of the range in that time is enough.]

[Plus, the timing between his attacks is slow, so it’s easy to find a window to deal damage.]

[With this in mind, why wouldn’t you go after boss Lexton, the generous?]

A guide post that had virtually taken over the community, receiving many upvotes and sympathies.

True to those words, dodging wasn’t that difficult.

I quickly slashed his wrist holding the war hammer with a dagger.

However, if there was one fact I overlooked,

It was that in this <Under the Chandelier>, the basic stats were brutal.

-Clang!

…Did I hit metal?’

A strike aimed at a perfect gap.

Yet, it failed to pierce through the leather armor.

Instead, the wrist that attempted the attack felt sore.

“Huh. Did a mosquito bite me?”

A so-called difference in weight class.

In front of overwhelming physical strength and durability, my attack couldn’t even make a dent.

The opponent, noticing this, laughed, revealing his ferocious molars and sharp canines.

“Wow, you’re definitely tough. Is that why? So slow it makes me yawn.”

Of course,

That didn’t mean I was going to lose.

With mockery met with mockery,

As I stepped back to return the gesture, anger flashed across his face.

“Getting lucky once and babbling nonsense! I’ll blow that mouth away first!”

Lexton was easily provoked, just as hot-tempered as his light banter suggested.

“Too bad. I too wanted to see it through to the end, but it seems impractical. After all, strong opponents are best dealt with through cooperation, don’t you think so, miss?”

The reinforcements that had just arrived raised an eyebrow.

“Still haven’t dealt with it? Surprising. I thought this would be over quickly.”

“Ahaha… I’ll humbly accept the criticism. It was a bit too much for me to handle.”

“I wasn’t intending to reproach you.”

Luciana stepped forward in front of me, blocking Lexton’s path.

Even with the significant difference in size between me and her, Lexton, who was almost twice my height, must feel even more imposing.

Standing tall amidst the intimidation of his size, she straightened her back.

“What’s this?! Do humans have a tradition of sending children to battle?”

-Twitch.

Luciana’s elegant eyebrows quivered slightly.

At the same time, a frown slowly formed on her forehead.

‘Ah, right.’

Just as much as that blabbering Lexton,

Luciana was also known for her temperament, always ready for a duel or sparring.

“That vulgar mouth pollutes the air of the Speda family’s mansion, and your dirt-covered feet have made a mess of the floor. Your sins are heavy.”

-Swish.

Her anger was soon visible in the pure white blade she wielded.

At the tip of the blade, emitting a smooth and sharp aura, red blood droplets fell.

“Your subordinates’ blood. They’re nearly annihilated. The valiant soldiers of the ducal family are taking care of them one by one. I have also contributed.”

-Whoosh!

As if shaking off the blood, a pure white aura exploded from where the hilt met the blade.

“You too will become a decoration on this floor in the same state as them.”

Facing the aura filled with killing intent head-on, Lexton let out a bright, beaming smile.

“Uhaha! So that’s why you have that title, a formidable opponent!”

I found myself grinning without realizing.

‘Good.’

Finding pleasure in meeting a strong opponent, defeating them, and taking their weapons.

The Levain, a race innately drawn to combat, seemed to find Luciana’s challenge more of a joy.

But no matter how much he was covered in muscles, the sight of a muscular uncle in leather armor smiling brightly in front of a silver-haired girl was, well…

‘It looks perverse no matter how you look at it.’

“Getting cocky because you’ve relied on tricks! It’s so satisfying to see, human child!”

Before I knew it, he had raised his war hammer high.

-Bang!

The pure white sword and the black hammer crossed, sparks flying.

“…Kugh!”

Luciana, who had received the blow with good momentum, was pushed back slightly in the struggle of strength.

At a disadvantage.

The slight, but evident, lack of strength on her part was proof of that.

“In front of a true warrior’s fight, numbers are merely decoration! My subordinates are on the verge of annihilation? What does that matter? If I defeat you here, those ragtags will be crushed in no time.”

Just as Luciana’s sword aura exploded in response a moment ago, mana flared from his horns as well.

“Being pushed back once doesn’t mean the fight is over. I will surely cut you down.”

“Try if you can!”

As they stared each other down, weapons poised to clash, “Such a pity. Seems you’ve forgotten about me?”

Lexton, startled, swung his hammer around him.

A familiar pattern.

[Namely, the Windmill Pattern. Lexton uses it to fend off threatening foes, but it’s simple to avoid by stepping out of range and then closing in again. Unlike Lexton’s usual moves, the wind-up is short, making it somewhat harder to dodge.]

Knowing the pattern well, and Luciana, not the primary target, also noticed and swiftly moved out of range.

“Oh, Lady Luciana. That was a splendid move!”

It would indeed be strange for a servant of the noble house to know all about the enemy, especially demons.

I was a bit worried since I couldn’t share the information in time, but she avoided it beautifully.

“Hmm. The muscles on his right shoulder were more turbulent than usual. It would be strange not to notice.”

Oh, that’s a strategy I hadn’t known.

I’ll have to remember that.

‘It could come in handy again and again.’

A great tip.

Not like I’m going to fight Lexton, the generous mob that drops enhancement materials, only once.

Lexton, having stopped in his tracks, glared at me with a huff, unable to hide his confusion.

“Eh, when did you get behind…?”

“While our lady is indeed beautiful, staring blankly won’t help.”

Of course, Luciana does boast a beauty that captures everyone’s attention!

And with her dazzling talent, she captivates hearts once more!

But still, forgetting the person you were originally facing is problematic.

Lexton, glancing back and forth between us, gripped his ax tighter, mulling over his next move.

“Hmph. Come to think of it, I’ve been too scared of a mere fly.”

Despite the humiliation of being caught off guard once, there was no sense of crisis in his eyes.

A dismissive look.

The Levain-like attitude of treating the weak as insects was fully displayed in him.

“Wow. I suppose I don’t even register as a threat to you.”

“Don’t interfere with the duel. After I deal with her, I’ll crush your skull too, so wait your turn…”

-Thunk

However, he couldn’t finish his sentence.

Due to the armor, made of who knows what leather, falling to the ground with a significant noise.

“What, what’s this…?”

“You should have taken better care of your belongings.”

[‘Tut’ has successfully unlocked ‘Lexton’s Leather Armor’.]

[‘Hans Byron’s infamy rises within the ‘Evil Dawn Empire’.]

Durability? Armor?

All of that doesn’t matter if you strip it away.

The small, shimmering secret weapon was slipped back into my pocket.

‘As expected, against humanoid foes, it’s almost cheating.’

No matter how tough a Levain he might be, he wasn’t born with skin as hard as a gargoyle’s.

Though the exposed, ruggedly muscled abs looked strong, they certainly weren’t enough to fend off a sword.

“Well done, Hans.”

Naturally, even a graze from Luciana’s superior swordsmanship could prove fatal.

“It was only what needed to be done.”

The subtle praise from my favorite character lifted my spirits.

Then,

“Tch, given the situation, fighting against a descendant of the great warriors seems futile.”

He closed the distance between us in an instant, perhaps disliking the smug look on my face, or maybe he remembered his original objective.

His outstretched hand was menacing.

“Don’t think I’ll let you off that easily!”

“Everyone, stop her! It’s an order from the True Dragon! Use whatever means necessary to retrieve the Golden Jade Seal!”

As his voice echoed throughout the room, Levain mercenaries began to gather around Luciana.

-Ching-

The left side… Ugh!

It’s open, everyone, stab!

Naturally,

Forcing their way through the soldiers’ encirclement at his command, those standing before Luciana were in a dire state.

Not sparing flesh and bone but sacrificing both to obey the command.

However, there was a result.

The soldiers were momentarily thrown into confusion by the sudden charge of the mercenaries.

Thus, Luciana, whose path was completely blocked, found herself without any hope of assistance.

“Such folly, not even considering one’s own injuries.”

“Hans, just hold on! I’m coming!”

The voice that reached me was filled with a hint of concern, but more so with thick trust.

‘How could I not be energized?’

With Luciana’s encouragement as my foundation, I faced the enemy before me.

“Last warning. Hand over the Golden Jade Seal!”

“Kukuk. That’s a funny joke. Why would I hand it over?”

Would a thief hand over the treasure they worked so hard to obtain?

That’s as likely as a dog grazing on grass.

“And you’ll never be able to touch me. Never.”

Despite his roaring face full of fierce momentum, Lexton’s feet and tail moved stealthily.

Yes,

‘Lexton the Bastard’ was not only a treasure trove dropping essential enhancement items but also one of the relatively strong mid-bosses.

A tricky boss that could lead to character deletion rather than treasure looting ‘was.’

Had some newbie not posted “Lexton Easy Kill Strategy in 10 Steps” at 3:43 AM,

his infamy would have continued to feed on the tears of newbies for a long time.

To be frank,

I was the author of that strategy post.

[Always keep an eye on the boss’s feet.]

The foot he put forward now was his left.

The hammer swung vigorously towards me, but reacting promptly, I dodged by dropping down.

[The pattern changes depending on which foot is put forward.]

Left foot.

Swing once more, this time, a slight jump.

Right foot.

Maneuver diagonally to avoid,

[For the instant death pattern with a short wind-up, known as the windmill, just know the counter! Before casting, there’s a precursor where the tail hits the ground twice. Just create distance then.]

Lastly, as soon as the tail hit the ground twice, I immediately leaped backward, escaping his attack range.

“Why… Why! Why doesn’t it hit!”

“Maybe because you’ve become too slow?”

Even if he fuels mana into his horns and infuses his hammer with aura, what’s the use?

It’s a simple enhancement.

If it doesn’t hit, all that effort is futile.

“It’s indeed the easiest boss, right?”

Lexton, fuming with rage, was a sight to behold.

Unfortunately for him, even that was a precursor I knew of in his pattern.

[Not instant death, but getting hit means rapid loss of health. Keep the sound on max. When he snorts, immediately…]

With a ringing in my ears, his tail rushed at me at an incredible speed.

Avoiding a mass as large as a log coming at me with such velocity was impossible.

“Argh!”

However,

Knowing when and how he would attack—

Where I should have been sent flying by his tail, various hidden weapons poured from my anchor took its place instead.

His broad and massive body was an easy target.

Naturally, everything I poured from the spatial bag hit its mark without fail.

“Now, the strategy is complete!”

While Lexton was disoriented by the shards embedded in various parts of his tail,

My dagger grazed his head as it passed by.

-Swish.

A demon’s symbol and pride.

A storage of power.

The proud, pointed horn that once stood tall on his head was now in my hand.

The pleasing heaviness and luxurious feel in my hand were immensely satisfying.

“You should take better care of your belongings. Well, look at this, following the Golden Jade Seal, another treasure rolls right to me.”

[‘You have obtained the Horn of a Levain Noble!’]

A material for strengthening needed to defeat the Demon King.

I managed to obtain it much more easily than expected.

Act 54

Prev I TOC I Next

As I leapt towards the carriage from the gate, the air was filled with a sharp sound slicing through the wind. At the same time, the distant ground started to draw closer. However, my heart remained as tranquil as a calm lake.

Rustle─!

Just before landing on the roof of the carriage, I extended my hand to a branch to reduce my speed and landed lightly on top of the carriage.

“What’s that noise?”

Someone, either with keen senses or good hearing, called out from the cargo compartment.

I pressed my hood down deeply again, making sure not to make any noise.

If the activities I am engaging in here were to reach the ears of the Dawn Society, things would not pass over as simply as before. It’s not just a minor issue, but something that could delay the ultimate goal of the Dawn Society – the revival of the Demon God. Moreover, the passengers in this carriage are members of a sect under the Dawn Society. That’s why I had to be extra cautious.

“It must be nothing. Probably just a squirrel at best.”

Climbing on the roof, I began to use ‘Mana Detection’ to scout inside the carriage, just as I had done before.

Two in the cargo area, and one driver. None of them seem to have an exceptionally strong presence.

‘Bishop Pintel did not come with them, it seems.’

That was a stroke of luck. If there had been a person of the Bishop rank, it could have led to a dangerous situation.

‘It’s time to get started.’

With that thought, I grabbed the carriage’s roof support and shook it vigorously up and down.

“What the!?”

As the support swayed and the canvas covering it flapped loudly, a man peeked out from the cargo area.

“Wait, this doesn’t seem like a squirrel…. Aaaaah!”

I quickly grabbed the man by his chin and threw him out of the carriage.

I knew I was strong, but this was something else. Such monstrous strength. The act of lifting an adult man with one hand and throwing him was so effortless that I was taken aback.

After that, I gripped the support again and threw myself towards the cargo area.

“Madness!”

Startled by the sight of his colleague being thrown out, the remaining man hastily drew his sword. Or rather, he tried to. Before he could fully unsheathe his sword, my right foot had already kicked his abdomen.

“Ugh!”

The thrilling sensation transmitted through the tip of my foot let me know that the attack had landed squarely. The man flew into a corner of the cargo area, hit his head, and fell down, seemingly knocked unconscious.

I slowly walked forward and pulled aside the canvas connecting to the driver’s seat.

“Hey! What are you doing in the cargo…, Hi, Hiiiik!”

The driver, mid-sentence, turned his head and was shocked to see me, with my hood flipped over, holding a sword to his neck.

The emotion of ‘fear’ was clearly visible above his head as always.

“Who are you…!?”

“It doesn’t matter who I am. You need to stop the carriage….”

As I opened my mouth to speak, I involuntarily used formal language and covered my mouth with my hand.

Fortunately, catching on to my intent, the coachman grasped the reins tightly and stopped the carriage, then climbed over to the cargo area.

If I were to speak, I might inadvertently use formal language again. Since that could give away my identity, I decided to use the universal language of body language instead.

I stretched out my hand, making a gesture that I wanted something.

“What do you wish for? We are just passersby. We don’t have anything valuable enough for you to take. Please, spare our lives.”

I continued to shake my hand in negation.

“Please, sir. Spare my life. I have a wife and children waiting for me at home.”

The coachman kept making pitiful expressions, sneakily glancing around as if pointing at something, and squirming.

There were a few boxes in the cargo area, but a small box behind the coachman particularly caught my eye.

‘Is that it?’

As I reached out to take the box, a chill ran through my fingertips.

“Aaaaah!”

Suddenly, the coachman, who had drawn a small dagger, tried to stab me. However, he wasn’t fast enough.

Before the dagger could reach me, I twisted my hand and struck his side.

“Ugh!”

With a cry, the coachman was thrown out of the carriage. Holding the box, I was about to leave the carriage when I noticed the coachman outside, gasping for air and glaring at me.

“Do you know who we are?”

Such words sounded like something a third-rate villain would say.

“We are the Dawn Society! If you make us your enemy, you won’t survive either!”

They would be surprised to know my identity. If they knew that the mysterious attacker was a high-ranking ‘Bishop,’ that is.

“Even if you cover your face, you can’t escape being tracked down… Cough!”

Stop making noise. Annoyed by his incessant babbling, I kicked him in the solar plexus, and he quickly fell silent.

I was already displeased having to do someone else’s job.

Out of curiosity, I opened the box to check its contents. Inside was a red soul stone, emitting a sinister energy.

‘This will at least prevent the Dawn Society from obtaining this soul stone…’

But still, there was one worry in my mind. That is, the ‘Black Knight’ hadn’t shown himself until the end.

‘Well, he should appear next time.’

After all, he’s the protagonist. It has to be that way. Otherwise, I can’t keep doing this.

***

In the audience chamber of the Gennel Monastery, where the Dawn Society was located, a solemn atmosphere prevailed. The situation was so tense that an ordinary person might feel suffocated.

Elenoa glanced around the room before her gaze settled on the throne placed in the audience chamber.

There, Tenellon sat in an arrogant pose, displaying his displeasure openly. He looked down at a man kneeling before him like a criminal.

“Pintel.”

“Yes, yes… Archbishop.”

He responded to Tenellon’s call, sweating profusely. Surrounded by the stern gaze of Tenellon and the other Bishops, he trembled.

“I am disappointed.”

Upon hearing Tenellon’s expression of disappointment, Pintel clenched his eyes shut.

“To think that you entrusted the transportation of a soul stone so vital to us to just a regular member.”

“I am sorry… It was my oversight…!”

“An oversight, you say…”

Tenellon repeated Pintel’s words, his sticky gaze not leaving Pintel.

“I would like to give you a chance to redeem yourself… but I see no way how.”

“I will find the person who attacked the carriage and retrieve the soul stone…!”

“Do you mean to find someone whose face you do not know?”

Tenellon’s soft words silenced Pintel.

“How can you seek someone without a name, much less someone whose face you do not know, Pintel?”

As he continued, the atmosphere in the audience chamber grew heavier.

‘The air is thickening.’

The demonic energy (魔氣) emanating from Tenellon filled the room, gradually enveloping it. This overwhelming presence kept the Bishops from speaking out, as the anger directed at Pintel could easily turn towards themselves.

Elenoa felt the same pressure.

“Bishop Pintel, this is not a good look for you.”

A man entered, cutting through the oppressive demonic energy as if swimming through it.

‘Julian.’

His presence seemed immune to Tenellon’s energy.

“To think the person who was raising their voice, demanding accountability from me, is now displaying such a pitiful sight… Indeed, the ways of the world are unpredictable.”

Pintel bit his lip at Julian’s mocking words.

“Bishop Julian, you’re quite late.”

“Yes, I was delayed attending to some duties for the Closed Eyes, Sir. Tenellon.”

Julian, unlike others who addressed him with a title of respect like ‘Archbishop’, simply used ‘Sir’ with Tenellon’s name, highlighting that his allegiance to the ‘Dawn Society’ might not be as straightforward, perhaps driven more by his own purposes.

“While Bishop Pintel’s failure to secure the soul stone is regrettable, isn’t it more crucial to identify our ‘enemy’ right now?”

His point was valid, and Tenellon seemed to agree with a nod.

“Indeed… In fact, I see it this way. Though we lost a soul stone, that might actually be fortunate.”

“Hmm?”

Elenoa held her breath at his additional remark, as the attention slowly shifted from Pintel to Julian.

The other Bishops also looked at Julian, each harboring different emotions in their gaze. Yet, unlike Pintel, Julian did not tremble. He merely smiled, seemingly enjoying the situation.

“Consider this. The ‘enemy’ who attacked our carriage knew exactly that we had secured a soul stone and the route the carriage was taking back.”

“Hm.”

“Do you understand what that means? It means they have an incredible level of intelligence, on par with the royal family, or even comparable to the ‘Sword Saint’,” Elenoa, who had been listening quietly, finally spoke up.

“Bishop Elenoa, that’s a rather naive thought.”

“Then what do you mean? Could you enlighten me?”

Julian’s smile deepened at her question.

“It means there is a traitor within the Dawn Society.”

The audience chamber became noisy, with murmurs spreading like small ripples. Elenoa swallowed hard.

“Then, wouldn’t it have been better for them to target us directly instead of intercepting the soul stone?”

“It could be a low-ranking member who doesn’t know the location of the diocese, or perhaps someone waiting for an opportunity to take down the Dawn Society entirely…”

“Enough.”

Tenellon’s solemn voice cut through Julian’s explanation, his eyes behind the mask shining fiercely. Julian, having achieved his purpose, bowed respectfully to Tenellon’s words.

***

After visiting the Dawn Society, I sat in a chair at home, deep in thought. It seemed unlikely that this would cause a rift within the Dawn Society, but it could still help reduce their activities.

‘They will be busy suspecting each other, trying to fight a traitor who doesn’t exist.’

Well, does a traitor exist since I am here?

Whether this will have any significant effect, I’m not sure, but it’s better than doing nothing.

‘If there’s something that bothers me, it’s…’

Why hasn’t the Black Knight appeared?

I placed a calendar marked ‘Continental Calendar’ on the table and began to mark certain dates with a pen. These marked days were when the Black Knight had made appearances and been active.

“Even though his debut has passed, he could still appear on other days, right?”

After looking over the marked days, I tore out this month’s page and stored it in a drawer.

“Please, I beg you, show up.”

While the ‘Sword Saint’ is remarkable, it was the Black Knight who had killed the bishops of the Dawn Society and cut off Tenellon’s lifeline, so I prayed cautiously.

“Hyden Reich, as your disciple, I’m asking you… Hm?”

What caught my eye then was a neatly placed newspaper on the desk.

‘Adratan Journal’

The newspaper’s name was followed by headlines that stood out boldly on the front page.

[Sword Saint, Hyden Reich! Has he left the jurisdiction?]

[The star of the Adratan Empire, why did the Sword Saint leave?]

Reading those headlines, a hollow laugh escaped my lips.

“Master?”

The Black Knight, are you not going to act?

Round 7

“Sigh.”

It was finally time.

Despite not having slept for two days due to excitement, I was surprisingly alert—perhaps even more so than usual, likely due to an adrenaline rush.

‘Everyone else has been growing while I’ve fallen behind for three years.’

It was a situation that couldn’t help but be exciting.

While those who awakened at the same time as me were being scouted by guilds and making great strides, I had been living a miserable life in this place.

But that was now coming to an end.

“…Done.”

The cooldown period for liquid synthesis had ended.

At the same time, I picked up the carrot juice and tomato juice I had prepared.

There was no need to hesitate.

I immediately used my power.

[Liquid (tomato) and liquid (carrot) will now synthesize.]

[A magical, ambiguous vegetable juice has been completed.]

“Ohhh!”

Magical vegetable juice!

It finally came out!

Despite the trembling of my body from excitement, I checked the completed vegetable juice.

[Mystical Ambiguous Vegetable Juice LV.1]

[Ingredients: Tomato, Carrot]

[Due to the scarcity of ingredients, the completion is ambiguous.]

[When consumed, depending on the amount of mana held for 3 seconds, you can partially see the information of monsters in view.]

[When consumed, depending on the amount of mana held for 3 seconds, it allows detoxification.]

The effects have changed.

The increase in vision and poison resistance disappeared, replaced by abilities that seemed more useful.

“Not bad.”

The ability to check the information of monsters, even if only for 3 seconds, made it a competitive product.

Considering this was just an ambiguous vegetable juice, what effects would a perfect vegetable juice have?

“Quest complete… right?”

I was slightly annoyed by the name of the ambiguous vegetable juice, but fortunately, the quest accepted it.

[Quest Complete]

[Ability ‘Liquid Synthesis’ level up.]

[Liquid Synthesis LV.2]

Number of uses per day: 1 -> 2

Who knew? I never dreamed that my ability would level up just on the third quest. Of course, when someone levels up varies, but it seemed rather early for me.

‘No, no. It’s not too fast considering I’ve been out of it for three years.’

Anyway, the system seemed to acknowledge that it was a tough quest.

The fact that the number of uses had doubled was a significant change. It meant I could use it once on a slime and once on potion synthesis.

‘I could go all in on the slime without splitting it.’

And now that the quest was successful, it was time to check the fourth quest.

[Awakening Quest: Offer Tributes]

[Collect and submit the items listed.]

[Dungeon-grown fruit harvested by yourself: 0/10]

[Magic-infused crops LV.2 harvested by yourself: 0/50]

Seems the fourth is tougher than the third.

The difficulty had clearly increased, which was a headache.

‘My crops are still only LV.1. How can I level them up?’

The first method is to grow the slime.

If I synthesize the slime to create a higher-level slime, perhaps the crops will also level up?

The second is to use the crops I have harvested to create seeds for planting. Ordinary carrot seeds became an item, but if I plant already itemized carrots as seeds, might they level up?

“Let’s just try both.”

Before implementing that hypothesis, I had just finished the cooldown period for the Slime Lord ability, so I immediately summoned a new recruit.

Pop!

Now, a total of four slimes.

And isn’t it about time for one to fall from the sky?

“Well, that’s that, but I can still use the ability one more time.”

The cooldown was already ticking.

However, seeing that there was one use left, I smiled with satisfaction.

“…Surely it doesn’t recharge just one per 24 hours?”

I became a bit anxious, but I continued with my thoughts.

Currently, I had two options: either to combine Mark Two and Poispois, or to merge the two new recruits into a LV.2.

However, I was cautious because if I combined Mark Two and Poispois, I wasn’t sure what would happen to their abilities.

‘Poispois is fine, but I can’t ignore Mark Two’s farming ability.’

So, I decided to first create a new LV.2 and then try merging it with Poispois the next day.

Thump!

“Oh! Welcome, new recruit.”

Just then, a free slime fell from the ceiling.

It had become almost certain that the dungeon was producing one slime per day.

“So, in celebration of the new member joining, shall we try synthesizing?”

Squirm?

When the new arrivals seemed confused, I immediately attempted the synthesis.

[Slime LV.2 has been completed.]

What ability might this one have?

[Slime LV.2]

A common slime.

‘Capable of liquid synthesis’

[Ability: Physical Resistance LV.1]

Physical resistance, huh.

Not bad, but at level 1, it was just mediocre.

[Physical Resistance LV.1]

[Absorbs 10% of physical impacts.]

Indeed, it was an ambiguous ability.

While suitable for a tank, the low level didn’t seem particularly helpful.

“You’re merging with Poispois tomorrow.”

Squirm!

Seeing the creatures wiggle as if pleased, I wondered what would happen to their abilities when merged. Would they disappear, or would they be inherited?

Or maybe a completely different ability?

‘…Let’s not think too deeply.’

The results would show after merging.

Soon, we would know.

Thus, there were now four slimes.

Three at LV.2 and one at LV.1.

The change in just three days was astonishing.

And this wasn’t the end.

“Now that the quest is completed, shall we do it properly?”

I installed the ladder I had brought into the hole leading underground and took Mark Two and the rest of the slimes down with me.

“Alright, this is now a field. We’re using it all as farmland.”

Squirm! Wiggle!

It meant they had to work like mad, but these guys seemed thrilled, dancing around.

And so, I started the real work of plowing the land and dividing it into sections.

“Surprisingly easy.”

Honestly, before starting, I wondered how long it would take to turn this vast land into farmland, but working with the slimes made it quick work.

Slimes naturally have the temperament of farmers, regardless of their abilities.

I brought back strawberries, eggplants, cucumbers, carrots, as well as potatoes, sweet potatoes, and Embergrill.

I decided to plant everything I had brought.

Since the slimes would take care of everything themselves, there was nothing difficult about it.

‘Mark Two was able to manage a 100-pyeong field with ease. So, I’ll assign the 100-pyeong field to the new recruit and let the LV.2 slimes handle this area.’

The seeds I brought were not enough to fill 1,000 pyeong.

I wasn’t even sure how many pyeong it was exactly, but I estimated it by comparing it to the size of a 100-pyeong vegetable garden.

So, I divided it into 10 sections of 100 pyeong each and decided to plant the seven types of seeds I brought, seeds from the magic-infused tomatoes, and the harvested magic carrots in each section to get more seeds.

“That makes a total of 9 types. One section is left.”

Since not all the allocated sections were filled, there was a lot of idle land. It felt like I had become a landowner unexpectedly.

Squirm- Squirm-

The slimes, perhaps born to be farmers, efficiently handled tasks that I might have messed up.

Of course, I wasn’t completely unnecessary, so as I did my part, we were soon able to sow all the seeds.

“You’ve worked hard. Let’s eat.”

Squirm!

Since the yield of tomatoes was much greater than that of carrots by weight, we were able to fill our bellies without shortage.

And not long after, I saw cherry tomatoes budding again.

“Can we harvest these once a day?”

I didn’t know how often it was possible, but if we could harvest them once a day, at least the slimes’ food problem was somewhat solved.

Crunch, crunch!

Seeing them munching on the cherry tomatoes, I couldn’t help but feel pleased.

“Uh, I wish I could give some to my family.”

Naturally, watching them eat made me think of my family first, and also of Young-seong, who had helped me.

If there’s good food, you want to share it with your family, right? I roughly calculated the slimes’ food and gathered some cherry tomatoes.

There were five carrots left after making the vegetable juice, so I planned to give four to my family and one to Young-seong.

“I should go now.”

I wanted to see their reactions after eating, quickly.

So, I immediately went out.

“Take good care of the farm!”

Squirm!

* * *

Choi Young-seong, the owner of ‘Awakened General Store,’ was having a headache because of a sudden visitor—or rather, a troublesome guest.

“Hey, Choi Young-seong! You think hiding it will stop me from finding out!”

“Stop talking nonsense and go back.”

And, unfortunately, this troublesome guest was a person he couldn’t easily deal with.

From one of the top five guilds in South Korea, Ara Hongryeon .

The person standing in front of him was Kang Hanul, the team leader and one of the top five ranked Awakeners in the guild.

“Come on, don’t be like that. Call that friend over for a drink, will you? What harm am I going to do? Choi Young-seong, I’m disappointed.”

“What friend? I don’t know the person. It was just a visitor who stopped by!”

“Hey, Choi Young-seong! Do I look that easy-going to you? Hahaha! I can spot a lie in an instant! You think I don’t know how long we’ve known each other?”

As they were bickering, someone entered the shop.

Ding-

“Young-seong, I’m back again! Oh? You have a guest?”

“Uh, uh… you.”

Young-seong muttered, flustered, then quickly put on a poker face. However, his expressions were already caught by Kang Hanul’s gaze.

“Oh, could it be that this is…?”

“Yes?”

Kyu-seong suddenly looked at the opponent who was acting like they knew him, and then was startled.

“Po, Predator Kang Hanul?!”

“Hahaha! It’s this guy, right? Isn’t it?”

“What do you mean…?”

Suddenly, Kang Hanul approached and casually put his arm around Kyu-seong’s shoulder. Due to his massive, tiger-like stature, the ordinarily built Kyu-seong looked quite small.

“Carrot!”

“Carrot? Ah!”

At the mention of carrots, Kyu-seong quickly checked his bag. Sensing this with a beast-like instinct, Kang Hanul burst into a hearty laugh.

“Did you bring it again, friend?”

“Yes? Yes, I have it but…”

“Great! Today, it’s on me! Hey, Choi Young-seong. Close the shop and come out!”

“No, Mr. Kang Hanul? What’s happening…”

“Let’s go and I’ll tell you on the way! Hahahaha!”

Round 6

Prev | TOC | Next

I was eager to see the harvest of cherry tomatoes, but time was of the essence.

I packed Mark2’s fluids, Poispois’s poison, and just in case, ten carrots, then left the dungeon.

‘I stayed up all night but still feel great.’

I was thankful for the outstanding stamina of an Awakened.

Thanks to that, I returned to Yongsan.

“Young-seong hyung!”

“What’s up? Coming two days in a row, something big must be going on?”

I laid out the prepared Mark2’s fluids and Poispois’s poison, along with one of the carrots I had harvested, on the counter.

“Could you analyze these for me?”

“Analyze? Of course, I can. But what’s this all about suddenly? Didn’t you say you were entering the dungeon?”

“It’s because of a quest, you know. I went and came back.”

“Hmm, you sure nothing’s wrong? I’m worried because you’re doing things you don’t usually do.”

“Of course. Thank you for worrying.”

Young-seong hyung gave me a dubious look for a moment but then inspected the items on the counter.

“So what are all these?”

“This is slime fluid, and this is poison. This is a carrot I found in the dungeon.”

“Slime fluid and poison I get, but a carrot? There are carrots in the dungeon too?”

“Look at it. It’s clearly not a carrot from Earth.”

“It does have an odd color. You want all of these thoroughly analyzed, right? It might take a few days.”

“Yes. Oh, and do you know anyone who’s an expert on slimes? Or any information?”

“It sounds like you’ve got yourself a nasty quest. I’ll contact some people I know.”

“Thank you, hyung.”

Seeing my cheerful expression, Young-seong hyung chuckled and took the items inside.

When he came back out, I had another request.

“Hyung, could you possibly get some seeds or seedlings?”

“From the dungeon?”

“Yes.”

“We might have some in the store… Just wait a moment.”

Although he said it would only be a moment, Young-seong hyung searched the store for a long time.

It seemed he had forgotten where he put them since they were neither commonly sold nor bought.

“Ah, Kyu-seong, sorry, but I could only find one packet. I’ll look for more later, so take this one next time you come.”

“Oh, I appreciate this alone. But what kind of seeds are these?”

“Uh, what were they? Uh, uh…”

The seeds were in a transparent envelope, not many in number.

By rough estimate, there might have been about 200.

“Ah! Embergrill!”

“What’s Embergrill?”

“It’s the first herb discovered in the dungeon, as far as I know. The guy who’ll handle your analysis request gave these to me. As you see, they didn’t sell.”

“An herb, huh.”

Was it unexpected?

Should it be classified as a spice or a medicine?

“Isn’t it what you wanted?”

“No, this seems fine too. I know it’s rare to find seeds or seedlings from the dungeon. I’m more than satisfied with these.”

“I’ll get other kinds next time. It’s not that hard.”

“Thank you, hyung.”

While Young-seong hyung contacted someone about the slime, I immediately searched for information about Embergrill.

“A herb that can be used as medicine and has a nice fragrance…”

This might be a big hit.

According to what I found, this plant isn’t picked leaf by leaf but is used whole, like lettuce or cabbage, allowing for one planting and one harvest.

“That’s a bit disappointing.”

If it were the kind where you could just pick the leaves and use them, you could have kept reusing them, but that was impossible.

Thinking about it, even the Layla I’m currently growing in the dungeon is a root plant, so once you harvest it, that’s the end.

‘I should separate and utilize the seeds.’

And since I’m buying seeds, I planned to choose plants that can be harvested multiple times.

Knowing that slimes eat a lot, it was a bit burdensome to only have plants that end after one harvest.

‘Strawberries, eggplants, cucumbers?’

While searching on my smartphone, Young-seong hyung finished his call and approached me.

“I’ve placed the request; the results should be in by next week or the week after. I’ll send you the information about the slime on my phone.”

“How much will it cost?”

“Never mind the money. I know the person, and they’re doing it for free.”

“Come on, there’s no such thing. It’s too much for me if you keep doing this.”

“Really, it’s true. If you don’t believe me, do you want to talk to them yourself?”

Young-seong hyung then transferred the information about the slime to my phone.

“Fine. If it turns out well, you owe me a treat.”

“Alright. Thanks, hyung.”

“Ugh. Since it’s creepy, if you’re done, go quickly.”

He’s a brother who can’t be straightforward.

I left the store and bought more of the seeds I had thought about, as well as a small ladder.

“Phew.”

I didn’t buy the He Shou Wu seeds.

Instead, I bought them myself.

‘He Shou Wu takes too long to grow. Even though Mark2 makes it grow faster, I can’t wait for He Shou Wu which naturally takes years.’

I spent all the money I had made from selling potions last time, plus a little more that I had saved. It left me penniless, but my heart was full.

“Guys, I’m back. Oh!”

It seemed they had already harvested and organized everything, as I saw neatly stacked cherry tomatoes that shone translucently and sparkled beautifully, just like the carrots.

“The size seems normal?”

One difference was that unlike the dungeon carrots which were much bigger than usual, the tomatoes were similar in size to regular cherry tomatoes.

“Let’s see. I can’t count these separately.”

Now that I looked, although the size was the same, there seemed to be a lot more. I thought about getting a weighing machine later and estimated roughly.

“Umm… too much? About 100kg?”

About 100kg of cherry tomatoes were harvested in one go. There were 100 plants, so that meant about 1kg of cherry tomatoes per plant.

[Enchanted Cherry Tomato LV.1]

[Contains faint magical power.]

[When consumed, depending on the amount of mana you have, you gain poison resistance for 3 minutes. Afterward, a very small permanent increase in poison resistance.]

“It’s an item.”

This time, it had a poison resistance ability.

Thinking about it, I should have waited a bit longer and taken the tomatoes with me for analysis too.

“Well, I have to go back anyway.”

The important thing wasn’t that.

Now that I had both carrots and tomatoes, the important thing was that I could make fruit and vegetable juice.

Since He Shou Wu was always available, I wasn’t too worried about it and just mixed the tomatoes and carrots.

“This probably won’t work?”

The quest probably requires a juice made using liquid synthesis. Just mixing it like this isn’t the right answer.

[Awakening Quest: Offer the Tribute]

[Collect and submit the items listed.]

[Enchanted He Shou Wu: 1/1]

[Homemade Enchanted Fruit and Vegetable Juice: 0/5]

As expected, it didn’t count.

I downed the failed tomato and carrot juice in one shot.

“Kuh!”

[3 minutes of vision……]

[3 minutes of poison resistance……]

Even though I just mixed the two, the effects were intact. This was a new discovery.

‘Potions usually don’t work just by mixing, but this does?’

Unlike potions, which only preserved their effects through liquid synthesis, this fruit and vegetable juice had no issues no matter how it was mixed.

Thinking about it, this could potentially be a good business item, and I naturally ended up eating one of the cherry tomatoes.

Pop!

“Hup!”

Though I had felt it in the juice, the fresh and sweet, lavish taste dominated my mouth. It was a flavor reminiscent of jewels, just like its appearance.

“Wow, this… I can’t stop eating it?”

My hand kept reaching for the tomatoes.

The carrots were tasty, but these had a strangely addictive quality.

Squirm-

Wriggle!

The watching slimes squirmed as if protesting why only I was eating. However, my mouth was so full of tomatoes that I had no chance to speak.

Gulp.

‘This is crazy. This has to be sold no matter what!’

I was too excited, and not because of the money.

The taste was so transformative that I felt a sense of mission that many people had to experience it.

‘I need to set aside some for my family. But shouldn’t these be stored somehow?’

Just then, a rookie slime approached me and started squirming.

“What, what is it?”

Wriggle- Wriggle!

“Are you trying to say you can take care of it?”

Squirm!

I didn’t know how on earth it planned to store crops, but it must have had some method if it was behaving this way.

“Alright. You take care of it.”

Squirm!

Watching this, Poispois also approached to help the rookie. I observed what they were doing. They were coating the tomatoes and carrots with their fluids.

‘Hmm, it feels strange, but if that’s the answer, then let it be.’

Well…

Since I’ll wash them with water before eating anyway, this should be fine. It’s much better than letting them rot.

‘Cool down, hurry up!’

Now, all that was left was the cooldown for the liquid synthesis.

* * *

Located in Guro District, Seoul, a building bustled with activity. This building was owned by the Ara Hongryeon Guild.

Ranked among the top five guilds in South Korea, the Ara Hongryeon Guild had departments for Awakened individuals specialized in various fields, and among them was Kim Seung-hyun from the research department, who was grumbling about a sudden request.

“I have the time, but it’s such a hassle.”

Muttering to himself, he held a vial of slime’s fluid, an inexplicable poison, and a slightly odd-looking carrot.

The person Young-seong had requested for the analysis was none other than Kim Seung-hyun, a prominent research Awakened of the Ara Hongryeon Guild.

“Chief, or rather Young-seong hyung, if it weren’t for his request, tsk.”

He said this, but his eyes hadn’t left the carrot since a while ago.

Born a researcher, Kim Seung-hyun felt his research desires stirring at the sight of the carrot that came from the dungeon.

“Maybe just tasting a little bit would be okay?”

There was a risk of poison or some unknown infection.

However, enticed by the continuously tempting scent of the carrots, Kim Seung-hyun’s appetite was whetted.

“Let’s first run it through the machine.”

Having resisted the temptation, Seung-hyun began to analyze each of the items separately.

And about 30 minutes later…

“…What is this?”

Seung-hyun’s voice trembled slightly.

It was unclear whether the trembling was due to excitement or fear.

“Is this even possible? Does this make sense?”

Seung-hyun had checked all three requested items.

And he was in the midst of being astounded by the results of all three.

“This is supposed to be slime fluid? Impossible. This needs more precise analysis. And this poison… it takes a while but it definitively causes paralysis. Is this even a possible result? This also needs further review.”

Amidst the unbelievable results, he finally looked at the results for the last remaining item, the carrot.

“A vision-enhancing effect depending on the mana level of the consumer? Does this make sense? It’s just a carrot, not a potion?”

Moreover, Kim Seung-hyun had vaguely confirmed that there might be a permanent increase in vision, though it needed precise analysis to be sure.

Given that the entire research department was already overwhelmed with developing buff potions, it was only natural for Seung-hyun to be excited upon discovering such an item.

“Ha! Where on earth did he find these items?”

At that moment, someone called out to the preoccupied Kim Seung-hyun.

“Hey, Seung-hyun.”

“Huh? Team Leader Hanul?”

“You seem really absorbed. What are you looking at?”

“Ah, do you know Young-seong hyung from Yongsan? He asked me to analyze these items.”

“You’re telling me you were doing this menial task with all the guild work we have?”

“I was just taking a break to clear my head. But…”

As Kim Seung-hyun hesitated, Ara Hongryeon Guild’s second team leader, Kang Hanul, sensed that something was up.

“What’s going on?”

“It’s a personal favor, so I’m a bit reluctant to say.”

“You know Young-seong is my friend! It’s okay, go ahead.”

“Then, please take a look at this.”

“Hm?”

After checking the data sheet, Kang Hanul shrugged.

“I can’t read this stuff.”

“This is poison. But it takes a bit of time to activate, though it’s nearly 100% effective.”

“What? This could be useful? Recently, the research director wanted us to capture a few trolls; this could make it easier.”

“And this carrot…”

“Yeah, it looks intriguing. It’s not a model, is it?”

“No, it came from a dungeon…”

Crunch!

Before Kim Seung-hyun could finish explaining, Kang Hanul bit into it.

Although Kim Seung-hyun knew the carrot was already confirmed to be harmless to humans, he was still surprised by Kang Hanul’s fearless action of eating it without listening to the explanation.

“Hmm? Hmmmm!?”

Crunch, crunch!

Making strange noises as he chewed the carrot, Kang Hanul took another big bite. As he did, a status window indicating an increase in vision appeared in his view.

“Team Leader, how is it? Did you get the vision increase effect?”

“Delicious! This is incredibly tasty! Where did this come from? Young-seong asked you to handle this?”

“That, that’s…”

“Seung-hyun, I’m heading out first! Hahaha!”

“Te, Team Leader? No…”

And thus, the connection was made, marking the birth of the first customer for the slime farmer.

Lexton had been rolling on the battlefield since he was young.

Inheriting the blood of dragons, Levain was strong of limb and bone.

Though his race was naturally inclined to seek out fights, he stood out even among them.

By the age of ten, he had shattered his master’s leg, and by twenty, within his mercenary band, there was no one who could oppose him, securing the position of leader.

Entering his thirties, he had even gone so far as to plunder the lands of other Levain nobility.

‘Nobility isn’t much after all. Whether noble or not, power is everything.’

Within Evildon, he believed he had no equal.

However, even Lexton encountered a wall he could not overcome.

“Bow down.”

Just as cold and barren as the climate of Evildon, was this merciless command.

And following that command, his subordinates dropped to their knees with a thud, none but he remained standing.

“To stand so boldly before the king, how irritating.”

The king of their race.

The one who called himself the ‘True Dragon’ and the Demon King, looked him up and down with an utterly emotionless gaze.

“This bastard!”

Fear.

A feeling he had not experienced in his decades of life began to crawl up from beneath his feet.

Struggling to shake off that feeling, he swung his warhammer with all his might.

He who had crushed the skulls of nobles.

If this creature claims to be a king, what of it?

Just smash him with overwhelming force…!

“Oh. To think a lowly mercenary touched nobility. There indeed is noble blood here.”

Yet, as if it was nothing, he drew his greatsword in a straight line.

Without moving an inch from where he stood, yet, as if to mock, his cherished warhammer was split in two, from head to handle.

“Arghhh!”

He threw the now useless weapon to the ground.

Even without his weapon, the greatest weapon of a Levain remained: Bulging muscles, sharp fangs, a tail capable of effortlessly lifting logs.

He had sunk his teeth into the necks of those who were careless a few times before.

‘I can still do this! At this close range, what can he do with a greatsword!’

The one thing Lexton overlooked was.

“Your fighting spirit alone is commendable.”

His opponent was also a Levain.

Moreover, the king of their race.

-Snap!

It was unseen.

The punch from the one who had discarded his greatsword, reached his face before he could even notice.

“Ugh!”

For the first time, he experienced a complete defeat.

Before he could even process the humiliation, the subdued voice reached his ears.

“Submit or die. Choose.”

At that moment, Lexton’s choice was already made.

***

That was already several years ago.

The fruit of submission was initially very bitter and spicy.

However, gradually, it turned into sweetness.

[Dungeon: Speda Duke’s Main Castle]

[The stronghold of the descendants of the great warrior who drove the demons to the north.]

[It boasts defenses second only to the natural fortress of Barant Fort.]

[Warning]

[The difficulty is too high for the level of your party.]

[Boss, Duke Speda is absent. Temporary difficulty reduction applied.]

One of the abilities he gained by becoming the king’s subordinate was this.

Dungeon, party, boss.

Lexton brushed aside the translucent panel with difficult words that appeared before his eyes to the corner of his vision.

‘Still full of incomprehensible words.’

But even with his dull mind, he could understand how significant this ability was.

The Levain, who always risked their lives in battle and considered the battlefield their home, could glimpse fragments of their enemy’s information.

In such places, obtaining information without any cost was more precious than gold.

“…Tch. I don’t like it.”

However, the information he obtained this time was not to his liking.

A ‘reduction’ in difficulty.

As if saying, had the descendant of the great warrior been present, he would have been defeated.

‘Even though I was horribly defeated by the True Dragon, there’s no way I would lose to anyone else.’

Grinding his teeth.

Since that day.

His newly grown teeth and fangs gnashed against each other.

“I’ll go in first. Follow me.”

Bang!

With his new favorite warhammer in hand, he kicked open the door of the mansion.

“Is this okay? From the walls and even though it’s a dark night, I’m worried that there’s no guard force at all.”

The guy who often acts as a strategist and chatters away.

“Shut up!”

Deeming it not worth listening to any further, he gifted the guy a punch to the head.

“Quiet! It’s good if there’s no force. Why so much talk? Are you scared?”

“No, not at all!”

Immediately, the lips curled in, and the subordinate bowed his head deeply towards him.

“Even if there’s a strategy, smashing through with force is all it takes! Am I wrong?”

“Yo-you’re absolutely right.”

Lexton believed in his reputation, recognized even in the mercenary world, and his strength that had even been acknowledged by the True Dragon.

“If you’ve understood, move according to the plan! Kill that gargoyle brat, plunder the treasures! The same goes for any humans you see! Sweep them all away!”

The rule of mercenaries.

The spoils belong to the one who claims them.

Seeing his subordinates’ eyes fill with greed, Lexton also smirked.

Trampling over the expensive-looking, brightly colored carpet with their muddy boots, the mercenaries advanced.

“Indeed, it does seem empty of people.”

Do humans usually leave such large mansions empty like this?

Such was the silence and desolation inside, it prompted questions.

“Where are that gargoyle brat and the treasures?”

What does it matter?

As long as the objective is achieved.

“It’s right in this room ahead!”

The magical tracking device, which had been emitting a soft purple glow, now showed an intense reaction.

Beyond here lay the item desired by the True Dragon.

“Like a worm crawling in the soil, you’ve hidden well until now. But now, there’s no escape, gargoyle!”

With a resounding voice, he pressed down on the door with his hammer.

A creaking sound filled the corridor as the interior was revealed.

And what was exposed inside was~.

“Still no progress in brewing tea, I see.”

“I’m always doing my best.”

“Strive for the best, not just your best. The tea leaves are wasted.”

The desired treasure was nowhere to be found.

Despite the door being broken and intruders entering, they seemed unconcerned.

Just a man and a woman arguing.

The man turned his head towards them and squinted.

“Hmm, I wasn’t expecting guests. If you don’t mind me asking, where do you come from?”

“…Deal with both of them. And find where that gargoyle is hiding.”

They’re seeing them and still calling them guests?

After a brief moment of surprise, Lexton immediately issued his command.

‘We need to find the treasure, what’s with these useless humans dawdling around.’

He had no time to waste on them.

Leaving the disposal of the witnesses to his subordinates, he was about to hurry towards his goal when.

“Dealing? Speaking such nonsense in the Speda mansion. Not knowing your place.”

The silver-haired woman slowly rose from the table, a rapier in her hand.

As he was considering the menace of her presence,

“Ugh?!”

“If you have the skill, then try.”

[Boss]

[Luciana Speda]

Above the head of the girl with a fierce look in her eyes, beyond the fallen subordinate, red letters floated.

At the same time, the aura of what seemed to be just a small human girl explosively filled the room with a fierce momentum.

“Everyone, be on guard! Do not underestimate her just because she’s a human woman!”

Lexton hurriedly shouted to his subordinates.

A boss, a special enemy sometimes encountered in gargoyle extermination missions.

He never expected such a title to be attached to this diminutive human girl.

But,

“After all, it’s just one opponent. Surround her!”

These were men who had synchronized in battle over many years.

The subordinates, now in formation with their weapons drawn, slowly closed the distance towards her.

“Who’s surrounding whom?”

Giggle.

That annoying laughter scratched at Lexton’s ears.

He had momentarily forgotten about another pest while focusing on this boss.

‘How dare this lowly human! …Hooh. Tearing this one apart in front of the woman wouldn’t be too bad.’

This is what the True Dragon called a tactical advantage.

Destroying the enemy’s composure while boosting… well, under the True Dragon’s grace, his own growth was something Lexton was smugly smiling about when,

“Aaaagh!”

A scream echoed from another direction at that moment.

“What?!”

“Honestly, I was quite on guard because you’re supposed to be the main force. But this doesn’t seem much different from the mercenaries earlier. Ah, perhaps you are a bit different?”

[Boss]

[Hans Byron]

Another figure emerged with a spear, just like the girl, a boy with a title indicating a formidable enemy, written in red letters above his head.

Between his slightly squinted eyes, his black pupils flashed for a moment.

Lexton involuntarily swallowed.

A strange sensation he had experienced long ago flowed through his body in an instant.

It was like, when he first met his lord…

The gaze of a ruler dealing with those beneath him, reminiscent of the Demon King.

“Waaaah!”

“Show these demons who dared to invade the north what for!”

“The safety of the lady is the top priority!”

And simultaneously, human voices filled the room from all directions.

***

Enjoying a cozy tea time while waiting for an ambush.

The thrill of a date with your favorite person, especially in these moments alone together at night, is incredibly exciting.

But there’s work to be done.

“How about we pull all the troops guarding the walls today and place them inside the mansion?”

“Huh. You always come up with ideas beyond my common sense.”

Luciana looked at me with an incredulous look.

“Your tip turned out to be true. But we could prevent their approach from the walls in advance, and we might need to patrol the estate to prevent any potential harm to the lord’s subjects.”

Luciana pointed out how my suggestion for troop deployment was utterly inefficient.

Indeed, she was right.

Without knowing the enemy’s objective, it’s necessary to spread out the troops to prepare for any situation.

However, I was certain.

That they would definitely come to this mansion.

Because, after all, their target is Oparn and his treasure.

“They will surely come. Bathory said it seems they are after her treasure.”

Casually dropping Bathory’s name surprisingly worked well.

As evidence, a crease formed on Luciana’s brow.

“Tch, such an unhelpful maid you are.”

“Let’s use that to our advantage. If we mobilize all the troops, aiming for a complete rout could actually be better.”

Her red lips sipped the tea, releasing a rich aroma.

Luciana, staring at me intently, asked in a stern voice,

“Your strategy only works under the assumption that the enemy’s entire force targets this mansion.”

Now, with the Duke of Speda and his heir, Luciana’s older brother, away, it was a reasonable doubt from the temporary commander of Speda’s estate.

The deployment of troops is a matter of great importance, affecting everything from the lives of the estate’s subjects to the estate’s very existence.

If things go wrong, not only could I lose trust over today’s events, but I might also be expelled from my position as a personal attendant.

Nonetheless, I nodded confidently.

“I’m aware. If my prediction is off, while the mansion may be safe, the estate could fall into danger.”

My response, coming without a moment’s hesitation, made Luciana smirk.

“It seems you’re aware of how reckless your suggestion is.”

“Wouldn’t you say it’s an ingenious plan? If it succeeds, we could eliminate any future threats as well.”

And this was the result of accepting my proposal.

“How did this happen?”

The utterly defeated foes.

Barely maintaining formation but with their morale thoroughly crushed.

Horns peeking out from the torn robes, a clear mark of demons.

The sharp spearheads of the soldiers who emerged en masse formed a forest.

And beyond that, the sight of the Levain, unable to hide their astonishment from within their robes, inadvertently brought out laughter.

Ah, indeed.

There’s no doubt my personality has taken a nasty turn.

The overwhelming success of this reversed trap felt surprisingly good.

“How does it feel to have the tables turned on you so swiftly?”

“…We’ve been thoroughly had.”

And there was an unexpected gain as well.

The Levain leader with blazing eyes.

Above his head, red letters were engraved.

[Boss]

[Illegitimate child Lexton]

A name all too familiar.

[Lexton Subjugation Guide – 34th Attempt Strategy]

[Stop bullying him! He’s being chewed out for being the weakest.]

[But… we need to farm enhancement materials, right?]

[How else do we enhance without subduing the generous legion commander? The higher-ranked commanders? Might as well keep grinding this one endlessly.]

The lowest-ranked among the Levain commanders.

Yet, the most active in operations.

‘To gamers, a precious source of enhancement materials.’

In the game, as here, his presence was no different.

I struggled to control my twitching lips at the sight of him.

Of course.

“Everyone, run away on your own!”

[Lexton made it to phase 2 then suddenly ran awayᅲ Where can I catch him?]

[Ah kk, the escape ninja Lexton, there are still newbies who don’t know?]

[Jj Jj, didn’t read the strategy guide? Paralysis potion is a must.]

[Give up and look for another enhancement route.]

A keen sense, perhaps.

Frustrating newbies by letting their guard down.

Even though obsessed with battle, he had an exceptional talent for slipping away from disadvantageous battlefields.

‘I can’t just let him go.’

“Where do you think you’re going? Wouldn’t you want to take this with you so you can at least explain to the Demon King why you retreated?”

A shining piece emerged from within my cloak.

After all, the True Dragon is not such a merciful king.

He wouldn’t just let go of an incompetent subordinate who retreated even when the object of their search was in front of them.

“The Golden Jade Seal…!”

“Your eyes change instantly.”

As I casually rolled the object, nearly snatched from Oparn, in my hand, Lexton charged towards me, dragging his destructive-tank-like body.

Simultaneously spreading wings that covered half the room, swinging was the massive warhammer, as large as his frame.

-Clang!

A pitch-black blade intercepted the rushing metal mass.

Watching other demons trying to aid Lexton being blocked by Luciana,

I smiled brightly at the golden goblin we locked eyes with.

“Then, let’s have a good, long play!”

A trial that must be overcome to capture the Demon King.

The battle with the enhancement material… no, the legion commander, began.

Hyun-soo, who had activated the Command of Monarch, was amazed.

“Right now, it’s just about lifting objects around me and stopping them.”

However, as time passed and he got used to it, Hyun-soo thought he would be able to use it over a wider range.

Then, hearing the door open, Hyun-soo turned his head and smiled softly upon seeing Nel.

But for some reason, Nel looked at him for a while and then smiled with relief.

“It seems the re-creation of the coat has finished splendidly, you seem to have become stronger than before.”

Perhaps it was obvious.

Hyun-soo had been around level 180 when he swung the death sword to kill Jack, and now he was in the 220s.

“Congratulations on becoming a noble.”

“It’s all thanks to the guild members.”

Nel got to the point.

“A viscount is a noble, but only equivalent to a knight. However, even so, there are clear advantages to being a noble.”

Hyun-soo listened to her.

“Because you’re a noble, you can obtain things that regular users can’t. The first is securing a territory and becoming a lord. The second is being able to have personal soldiers even without a territory.”

Hearing this made Hyun-soo’s heart race.

‘Become a lord?’

Hyun-soo had met many lords.

He remembered Lord Bans of the smallest beginner zone.

Even though it was a beginner zone, he had thousands of people in his territory.

The idea of ruling over such people.

Of course, it wasn’t possible yet.

“The good thing about becoming a lord is being able to collect taxes every month.”

Suddenly, Hyun-soo thought being a viscount, albeit lowly, was quite significant.

Then, knowing the reality of a knightly viscount, he asked.

“Has there been a case where a viscount became a lord?”

“…There is. Maybe one in a hundred?”

Right, Hyun-soo had prematurely celebrated.

“Usually, you receive recognition for your merits by the country and its people, it might be easier to increase your title.”

Hyun-soo became curious.

“How do we compare now to Hwarang, the top guild in our country?”

Nel looked bitter.

“Like a lion and a puppy.”

It was a regrettable statement, but it had to be clear.

“Our Bright Future is made up of the best elites in each field. The problem is that the top guild Hwarang has too many high-rankers. About 25% of the high-rankers in our country belong to one guild.”

It was a groan-worthy statement.

“Also, the guild master there holds one of only two count titles in our country and already owns two territories. Moreover, they have more than 500 guild members and over a thousand troops.”

The reason Hyun’s forge is secretly growing is to withstand and win in future conflicts.

Hyun-soo felt that he still lacked the power to protect.

“We would even lose against guilds ranked in the top 20.”

However, Nel smiled faintly.

“Still, there’s something I can assure you of. If you look globally, combining barons, counts, and dukes, there are over a thousand. But Bright Future is the first to rise so quickly and possess such strong forces.”

The first.

Come to think of it, Hyun-soo started 3 years after those who began right after the Ares opening.

“You are an amazing person, Guild Master.”

At Nel’s words, Hyun-soo smiled slightly.

“Then we just need to close that gap going forward.”

It was ultimately a matter of time.

‘Someday, I’ll grow it to be comparable even to the Hwarang guild.’

Soon, Nel revealed the reason for her visit.

“You must have received a kingdom quest now that you’ve become a viscount, titled ‘Expedition Leader.'”

Hyun-soo checked the quest he received when he became a viscount.

[Kingdom Quest: Expedition Leader]

Grade: A

Restriction: Viscount

Reward: 3 soldiers.

Penalty for Failure: Title revocation.

Description: Meet Commander Philip in Arham, a territory on the very edge of the Goyard Kingdom.

This was an impressive quest for Hyun-soo.

‘A quest that gives three soldiers.’

Hyun-soo had just won Bella’s heart a few days ago.

‘Of course, users are important too.’

But soldiers, knights, or other capable NPCs were also necessary.

“It might be just three for now, but depending on the achievement, the rank of those soldiers can vary.”

Not all soldiers are the same.

“Some could have the talent to become knights.”

Those three would firmly protect the forge.

“Plus, it gives a decent amount of experience, and achieving great deeds could open up the possibility of becoming a higher noble.”

Nel smiled awkwardly.

Hyun-soo nodded and suddenly remembered something.

He took out an egg from his inventory.

It was the wolf’s egg he obtained from hunting the ash wolf.

Hyun-soo took it out because of this.

[??? is pleased.]

[It might hatch before a season passes.]

This notification came after Hyun-soo became a viscount.

The egg is pleased? What is it pleased about?

“Do you know anything about this kind of egg?”

“It’s a pet egg. One moment.”

Nel checked it.

(Wolf’s Egg)

Grade: ???

Type: ???

Description: An egg held by the ash wolf, the third child of Fenrir. It’s uncertain what kind of wolf will hatch from it, nor when it will hatch.

Nel was surprised.

“An egg held by Fenrir’s third child?”

“Yes.”

Fenrir was one of the eight monsters, known to be as strong or stronger than the continent’s top ten legends.

“You might get an epic-grade pet. If it’s even better, you could designate it as a guardian.”

A guardian represents a guild, kingdom, or broader, a creed, as an animal or monster.

Nel made an uncertain expression at the mention of the egg reacting to Hyun-soo.

After saying she would look into it, Nel left, and Hyun-soo immediately headed to Arham territory.

***

[The wolf’s egg is preparing to hatch in the care of user Hyun-soo.]

Blue Inc. Executive Office.

CEO Lee Se-jin looked at the notification that appeared only to him, his expression one of interest.

It was as if before the appearance of the God Blacksmith—an information known only to Lee Se-jin and a very select few.

The egg held by the ash wolf.

At first glance, it might be predicted that an offspring of the ash wolf would be born.

But not at all.

“A common wolf far inferior to the ash wolf might be born.”

A common wolf is level 15.

“Or, a wolf incomparably stronger than the ash wolf might be born.”

Yes, the design intent of this egg was special.

“From the moment it begins to prepare for hatching, the egg starts to feed on the achievements of the one who nurtures it.”

The egg will hatch on its own after a certain period.

However, this also depends on conditions.

If it’s someone without a title, or someone without followers, a common wolf is born.

But what about Fenrir and its offspring?

At the very least, they were kings of their domains, and Fenrir is the king of all wolves.

“How would a king serve an ordinary user?”

That’s why, even after a certain time, if there’s no title or followers, an insignificant wolf emerges.

However, the moment Hyun-soo obtained a title, this changed.

Even as an entity within the egg, it became something worth expecting.

And as much as it prepared for hatching, it literally starts to feed on what Hyun-soo has built up as a commander, noble, or knight from now on.

[Current nutrient rate: 0%.]

The type of wolf that will emerge is decided by the nutrient rate. Having a title doesn’t guarantee a good wolf.

30% nutrient rate achieves a sub-boss wolf.

50% nutrient rate is a boss-level wolf.

80% nutrient rate is inhabited by a legendary wolf.

Lee Se-jin stood up.

On the wall of his executive office was a map of the Ares server worldwide, including domestically.

There are a total of thirteen legendary monsters designated as guardians around the world.

The figures of legendary monsters attached above various countries.

“How far will the wolf’s egg go……”

Lee Se-jin felt his heart race as he looked at the figures of the legendary monsters.

There are two most splendid and magnificent figures.

They were the figures of the Four Guardian Beasts.

One figure is plugged into the Ares Church.

The Guardian Beast Phoenix.

Another figure is in the Disaster Church.

The Guardian Beast Hydra.

That was the end.

“It’s a needless thought.”

Lee Se-jin chuckled bitterly.

The creature that will appear from the egg depends on the nutrient rate.

The nutrient rate that needs to be built up from now on.

In fact, even if you accumulate 100%, a Divine Beast might not appear.

Lee Se-jin decided to put aside the thought, given it was uncertain how much needed to be accumulated.

However, he did entertain this idea:

“A Divine Beast of the wolf.”

Just imagining its roar seemed truly magnificent.

***

The Arham territory is located in the northern part of the Goyard Kingdom, a land teeming with monsters nearby.

It’s a place where endless subjugation is carried out every day.

And there is something special in this Arham territory.

It’s a mission where newly knighted individuals lead soldiers to conduct subjugations.

There are also other things that knights can do, and this place also serves as a military training ground.

Commander Philip saw Duke Luckburg, who was noisily chatting on the side.

“Soon, a guy named Hyun-soo will come here, let me say this once more, but he is a very sly one and less significant than you might think.”

Arham territory is also where Duke Luckburg and other nobles were demoted to.

“Be careful, you might lose all your soldiers.”

“I understand.”

Philip nodded his head.

He somewhat agreed with Duke Luckburg’s words.

Commander Philip is a cold and fearsome person but also someone with a different side.

His people were the most precious to him.

“A foreign knight, huh…”

He does not like newly titled foreigners. Because of them, he has lost many soldiers.

“A blacksmith, and his level is…”

The average level of foreigners who received a knight’s title was about 290. But it is said to be much lower than that.

“Soldiers led by a blacksmith knight are to go on a subjugation.”

Who are they trying to kill?

Moreover, the soldiers are afraid. Afraid they might be assigned to him and die.

The royal family only provided personal details but not the exact information.

Rather, it was Luckburg who informed him.

“His becoming a noble was a false deed, he conspired with saints, paladins, and pretended to have saved the king and us, he did not prove his strength there, he’s just a blacksmith.”

It is said that no nobles have ever seen his strength.

“I understand.”

Philip nodded and moved on.

To prepare for the imminent monster invasion.

He watched the soldiers busily moving supplies for battle preparation.

During this, a small cannonball rolled out from one of the boxes, and his brow furrowed.

The cannonball was glowing red hot.

“A…defect?”

This cannonball was for a dragon cannon, a siege weapon used in such equipment.

When it explodes, it engulfs a radius of 10 meters.

The problem is that the box of cannonballs being moved by the soldiers contains more than ten cannonballs.

Meaning, if that goes off, a chain explosion could kill them all.

Philip was about to shout desperately.

“Everyone, get away!!!!!”

They are his children.

Whether they like it or not, they are his soldiers.

Dozens of his soldiers were about to die, engulfed in an explosion they knew nothing about.

Then, a soldier moving the cannonballs discovered the one that was red hot.

“Hi, hiiiiiiik…!”

The cannonball, boiling like water in a whistling kettle, was about to cause an explosion.

Fwoooosh…

With the sound starting, dozens of fragments scattered, and a fierce flame burst out, exploding.

Woah-!

Then, something strange happened.

The exploded flame was trapped by an unknown force.

The hundreds of scattered fragments converged into one place.

And then they shot up into the sky rapidly.

Philip’s gaze followed upward.

And there, in the sky.

Boom-!

A full explosion occurred, emitting a cloud of smoke.

Patting his chest, Philip soon saw a man walking towards him.

As if it was nothing, the man in a coat patted the shoulder of the soldier in front of the cannonball.

“Are you alright?”

“Yes…! Thank you for saving me. But, who are you?”

Noticing Philip, the man said.

“I’m Viscount Hyun-soo, here to see the commander.”

Act 53

Prev I TOC I Next

“I’ve lost…” A knight, with a twisted face from defeat and a low groan, finally admitted his defeat.

Looking at him, I let the sweat beads that had formed drip down as I gave a faint smile. “Is there no one else?”

Julian was defeating knights with unfamiliar weapons. Before long, spectators gathered at the training ground, and even formal knights appeared, hoping to challenge the reputation of ‘Julian.’

‘It turned out like this unexpectedly.’

Of course, it wasn’t too bad from my perspective. If I had faced only mediocre opponents instead of these formal knights, my skills wouldn’t have improved in this manner. Like this.

[You have acquired Aura Transformation.]

Without these opportunities, I wouldn’t have gained new traits either. Initially, applying aura to weapons other than ‘swords’ was quite difficult. However, as time passed and I repeated duels, I quickly adapted to any weapon, which allowed me to acquire new ‘traits’ in this manner.

“It seems there’s no one else. How disappointing. Is this all who aspire to protect the royal court?” With a sneer on my lips, I addressed the surrounding knights, who could only swallow their saliva.

Regrettably, it seems there are no more challengers. Thinking this, I hung up the rapier I usually didn’t use on the weapon rack.

“Well done, Sir Julian.” A knight who had been watching nearby rushed over and handed me a towel. His face seemed strangely familiar. I think I’ve seen him before.

Ah, I remember now. He was a member of the Chevalier Order I visited in the Yulin special district. Ah… I remember his surname, but what was his name?

“It’s Fern. It’s been a while, so you might have forgotten…”

“Sir Fern Tellund. Don’t doubt my memory. Haha, by the way, has Sir Heinrich fully recovered?” I added his surname to the name he provided, and Fern’s face began to show signs of happiness.

I’m not sure why he’s so pleased. “Yes, yes! He was hospitalized because of the wound from the demon but has just completed rehabilitation!”

“Is that so? That’s good to hear. The demon we saw then was merely a Bihorn, after all.” As I wiped the sweat off with the towel Fern gave me, he laughed awkwardly.

“Haha… Only Sir Julian could refer to a Bihorn demon as ‘merely.'”

In truth, reflecting on that time, it would be inappropriate to attach ‘merely’ to it. At that time, I hadn’t perfected the ‘Moonlight Sword,’ and I hadn’t fully adapted to my body, nearly dying to a ‘mere’ Bihorn demon.

“Indeed, being able to freely apply aura to spears and thinner swords than those usually used indicates the level you’ve reached, allowing for such comments.”

Fern must have been visiting this training ground often recently. It sounded like he had witnessed me testing aura on various weapons multiple times.

“Also… maybe it’s just me, but the aura I’ve seen from Sir Julian before seems sharper now than it was.”

I looked at Fern at his straightforward compliment. Sharper than before. Indeed, I had thought so myself. Compared to when I first became ‘Julian,’ the difference is like heaven and earth.

“To reach such a high level and still continue to refine oneself…”

“Sir Fern, you also possess talent.”

Hearing about my own growth from a third party, which I had been solely content and happy with, didn’t feel bad at all. Thanks to this, I found myself offering encouragement to Fern, which I wouldn’t usually do.

“Excuse me?”

“You will grow to be a fine knight as well. Perhaps, you might even enjoy a reputation similar to mine.”

“Such… thing…”

“Ah, if it’s a reputation like ‘The Smiling Executioner’, it might be somewhat unpleasant, though.”

Did I say something unnecessary?

I returned the towel Fern had handed to me, and he muttered a ‘thank you’. Was he thanking me for returning the towel? It wasn’t mine in the first place, after all.

I turned around and began to leave the training ground. ‘Stronger than before.’ I realized that I no longer needed to tremble as I had when I first became ‘Julian’.

I had finally reached the point where I could fully utilize this body.

‘Besides, considering what lies ahead, there won’t be much for me to do.’

At most, pretending to be a part of ‘Dawn Society’ while carrying out the duties of ‘The Closed Eyes’.

Though there are things I must keep hidden, haven’t I managed well so far? Sufficient power. A stable daily life. No longer cringing at my own acting. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that I’ve now settled into this world.

‘That is, as long as it doesn’t deviate too much from the world I knew.’

***

After finishing training and taking a shower, I returned to the office of ‘The Closed Eyes’.

“And, Sir Pintel has successfully secured the soulstone.”

Hmm.

As I received the report on Dawn Society’s activities from Razlot, I sighed internally.

‘Why?’

I had heard before that Pintel planned to raid a merchant guild to secure the soulstone. The more soulstones Dawn Society secures, the closer ‘Demon Lord Barbatos’ comes to revival, and I cannot stand idly by and let that happen. I must prevent Dawn Society from securing the soulstones.

However, the news of ‘Pintel’ moving to secure a soulstone didn’t feel particularly threatening. That task is meant for the protagonist of this story, Hayden Reich, and his dual identity as the ‘Black Knight’.

‘No, it’s not about appearing during the raid but perhaps intercepting on the way back?’

No.

No matter how much I try to recall, the ‘Black Knight’ is supposed to thwart them during the raid. I clearly remember that. The ‘Black Knight’ is one of the key contents of <Let’s Kill the Demon Lord>.

The reason I remember the name ‘Pintel’ is because of this… The debut of the ‘Black Knight’ was one of the iconic scenes of the story. The knight of justice thwarting Pintel. A scene that received cheers from many users for its impact and coolness.

Therefore, it was disconcerting to hear that Bishop Pintel had safely secured a soulstone.

‘Why isn’t he doing his job, Hayden Reich…?’

This is practically dereliction of duty.

“Sir Julian… Are you feeling unwell?”

Lost in thought, I hadn’t fully caught Razlot’s words and looked up at his voice.

“Did someone… not appear?” I inquired, causing Razlot to look puzzled.

“I mean, when Sir Pintel raided the guild. Wasn’t there someone exceptionally strong… wielding a sword fiercely, who showed up?”

“No, there hasn’t been such a report…”

Razlot’s precise ‘no’ response meant the possibility of the ‘Black Knight’ having appeared and been defeated by Pintel was off the table.

‘Really a dereliction of duty!’

Frustrated, I bit my lip hard.

Part of the reason I felt settled in this life was under the assumption that the ‘Black Knight’ was out there making moves.

Because it’s the ‘Black Knight’ who intercepts the soulstones meant for the ‘Dawn Society’, gradually taking down its key members, eventually leading to the current Arch Bishop ‘Tenellon’.

‘The Black Knight should have appeared by now… not showing up at all during the crucial moment.’

The bitterness that started to spread at the tip of my tongue made me frown slightly, surprised by the unexpected turn of events.

“Do you happen to know Sir Pintel’s return route?”

Razlot, taken aback by my sudden question, asked back.

“Considering contingencies. We’re not the only ones after the soulstone, after all.”

Understanding dawned on Razlot, and he nodded before speaking, “Sir Pintel, who successfully secured the soulstone, is expected to enter the city through the western gate today.”

“I see, probably planning to enter the city late to avoid the royal court’s eyes.”

“Yes, that seems likely.”

Even as I listened to Razlot, the bitter taste and ominous feeling lingering in my mind wouldn’t fade.

Yet, deep inside, like a child believing in Santa Claus, I held onto the hope that the ‘Black Knight’ would appear.

‘It would reduce my workload if he just did his job!’

Although this belief stemmed not from innocence but purely for my own convenience.

Rising from my seat after receiving Razlot’s report, I began preparing to leave the palace.

“Where are you going, Sir Julian?”

“Ah, I just remembered something urgent. Could you please pass on the message to Commander Odwin?”

One of ‘The Closed Eyes’ Julian’s privileges was not needing to adhere to office hours on days without assignments.

“Yes, I understand.”

Razlot, knowing this, naturally nodded.

“Should I also pass these documents to the Commander?”

Glancing at the pile of documents on my desk, Razlot looked at them.

“Yes, and please thank Commander Odwin for me.”

“Sure…”

***

Taking a deep breath, the cold from the walls seeped deep into my lungs.

Maybe my trained body helped, as I didn’t feel the cold too much, but still, an inexplicable irritation arose.

‘With Hayden Reich’s intelligence network, he should be aware that Dawn Society has secured the soulstone.’

I was perched atop a large tree near the western gate, as mentioned by Razlot, hidden from sight by my hood, waiting for the carriage carrying Pintel to arrive. In my opinion, this place was the last line of defense, ‘He has to appear. He must.’

If the carriage passed through here, the ‘Black Knight’ would no longer be able to prevent Dawn Society from obtaining the soulstone. Inside the city, Dawn Society’s combatants, the Monsignors, and Bishops, would be waiting, and it would be dangerous even for a ‘Sword Saint’ if they were to gather in force.

‘Is it not time yet?’ Amidst a whirlwind of emotions, I spotted a carriage approaching the gate from a distance. Despite the pitch-black night, Julian’s eyes could clearly see. Reflected in those eyes was a symbol recognizable only among those of Dawn Society.

‘That’s it.’

The carriage carrying the soulstone secured by Pintel. That must be it.

‘What are you doing, Hayden Reich…’

But still, there was no sign of the ‘Black Knight’, not even an owlet in sight. At this rate, the carriage would pass through this gate and enter the city. That would mean crossing a point of no return.

I sighed inwardly. There was no inkling why the ‘Black Knight’ hadn’t appeared here, but one thing was clear. This was going to complicate matters further.

As the sound of horse hooves grew louder, I rose from my kneeling position atop the gate.

‘Had I known this would happen, I should have practiced for it.’

Then, with my mind firmly made up, I launched myself towards the carriage.

“A relic to select the king of gargoyles, huh? Hoh. Living through the ages, I see all sorts of precious items.”

Interest sparked on Bathory’s face as he looked at the item Oparn had brought out.

But, well.

‘What’s this?’

Contrary to the initial intuition.

To the eyes of a thief, it was nothing more or less than a piece of jewelry that looked slightly expensive.

[Diamond Seal]

[A relic symbolizing the king of gargoyles]

The status window only went so far as to describe it, with no special abilities to speak of.

It was pretty much pretty garbage.

“Do you recognize this item?”

Hiding my disappointment, I asked Bathory, who seemed to know about it.

Who knows.

There might be abilities that I hadn’t checked in the original work.

“I’ve never actually seen it before, but how could I not know? In our clan, there’s a treasure that only reacts to Blad. That must be similar.”

The king of the clan.

This meant there was a king among vampires, gargoyles, and even Levains.

‘Is it an artifact whose symbolic value is more important than its performance?’

Then, it was of no use to me.

Symbolism?

Who cares.

To think I was expecting something, only to find it worthless.

“Now, you must have one yourself. Why ask me…”

“Shh.”

I pressed my index finger to her lips.

I nodded to Bathory.

My eyes, however, were on Oparn.

-It’s our secret.

With lips trained in conversations with Elizabeth, I silently conveyed my opinion to her.

It was enough that Bathory mistook me for the king of doppelgangers.

– I see. Well, it would be troublesome for you if it were revealed.

“What are you talking about?”

“Never mind. It’s nothing you need to worry about. Let’s talk more about that seal.”

Prompted by Bathory, the topic returned to Oparn’s relic.

Oparn, holding the seal tightly, continued.

“Diamond entrusted it to me, saying under no circumstances should it fall into the Demon King’s hands.”

“Hmm, indeed. If it’s about the position of the king of the race, that makes sense.”

Curious.

It was strange how seriously Bathory, Oparn, and even the Demon King, who was trying to steal it, regarded this artifact.

‘Is there something I’m missing?’

“I’m curious. It’s just an item related to hollow honor. What could possibly be the reason the Demon King covets it.”

“Hollow honor? What blasphemy!”

“Oops, my mistake, I forgot to filter my thoughts, and ended up saying what I really felt.”

At the slight provocation,

I shrugged as I watched the gargoyle tremble with clenched fists.

“Such a bad taste.”

Catching on, Bathory commented with a single remark.

‘Ahem. I must restrain myself. He’s supposed to seduce a saint.’

“Retract your statement!”

“Yes, yes, I’ll retract. But isn’t it more important to consider why the Demon King covets that treasure?”

Enough with the trivial banter.

I’ve felt like I’ve been missing something for a while now.

‘It might be a misunderstanding, but it’s unsettling.’

Trampling over Bathory’s territory.

Laying waste to the gargoyle’s stronghold.

All had the clear purpose of ‘uniting the Evildon Empire centered around the Levain race.’

But what about this artifact now?

“By now, all the gargoyles within Evildon are already under Levain’s control. There’s no need to solidify their control further by obtaining this seal, right?”

Is it worth it to push his forces to the brink to obtain it?

To someone like me, who prioritizes efficiency and performance, the answer was naturally ‘doubtful.’

“Hmm. Are you abandoning your duty because of that? You really know nothing about being a king.”

“Well, I have no intention of learning in detail.”

She sighed deeply at my relaxed attitude.

“Well, I have no intention of forcing a sense of responsibility on you. But it’s certain that nothing good will come from the Demon King getting his hands on it.”

“Hm? Why?”

“Because with it, a puppet king will be established.”

Seriousness settled in her crimson, ruby-colored pupils.

“The command of a king is absolute among the races. The lower demons will all follow it. Even if it’s a puppet, the existence of a king elected through proper procedures carries its own significance.”

So that was it.

The gargoyles, unmatched in durability.

Something that couldn’t be dealt with without significant firepower, as I had learned all too well within the game.

To lead them in war?

The headache was already starting.

‘I remember, it was like that in the final battle too.’

A wall of gargoyles standing fortress-like in the front lines.

The Levains, disturbing the battlefield with their mobility when you least expect it.

And the vampire corps, annoyingly casting debuffs or bombarding from the rear.

Despite being of different races.

Their coordination was as troublesome as flowing water.

I thought it was due to the Demon King’s amazing control.

But if the secret was the commands of the kings of each race?

“I had no idea such a secret existed.”

“…Well, it’s not exactly relevant to you. I’m in the same boat.”

Her gaze now turned towards Oparn.

“Likely the same for him. Even if there’s a royal command, we high nobles can resist.”

Born noble, thus not easily swept away by the Demon King’s hand.

Bathory and Oparn were such cases.

‘I’m human, so naturally, I’m an exception.’

“I understand. Gargoyles are inherently strong warriors… To prevent Tyrone’s forces from growing stronger, we must protect him and the relic.”

“It won’t be easy. He wouldn’t send mere mercenaries for something he covets.”

Bathory really does worry about everything.

“What does it matter? Whoever comes.”

“What?”

“Unless it’s the Demon King himself. Kek.”

The thought alone was amusing.

I am Hans Byron.

A personal servant of the Speda family.

This means that an attack on me would be…

‘Equivalent to a direct confrontation with the North.’

The North’s ultimate force.

With the nightmare of demons, the Sword Master, ready to strike.

Certainly, even if a legion commander came, they would be sliced by that sword.

“Using the descendant of a great warrior to strike at the Demon King’s forces! How can I not laugh?”

“That’s exactly the kind of idea you would come up with.”

Bathory, holding her forehead as if it ached, and Oparn, confused and unable to follow the conversation.

I smiled and gestured for him to follow.

“Come, let’s go. We can get you treated there too.”

“…Where do you plan to go?”

I reached out my hand to Oparn, who anxiously lowered his gaze to the floor.

“To the place where Bathory and I are staying. The land of the great warrior.”

Thinking about getting things done without lifting a finger made me hum a little tune.

Oparn

Unbeknownst to himself, he had entered into the strongest fortress of the current era.

Anyway.

Seeing Oparn’s grimace from earlier and his now gloomy face.

I felt a flutter in my heart, like a feather.

“The great warrior you mentioned is…”

“Or would you rather stay here alone?”

Even now.

The male lead (candidate) is gritting his teeth and glaring at me…

Seeing his handsome features distort, something from my peripheral nerves seemed to rise.

“You’re being too mischievous, aren’t you?”

“Hehe.”

Under Bathory’s mediation, we started moving again.

Perhaps, as she said, my character has gotten a bit worse.

‘Ever since catching that doppelganger, this has been happening.’

Frustration, sadness, elation.

The closer I feel the intense emotions of others, the more an inexplicable pleasure seems to prick my heart.

‘Am I becoming a real doppelganger?’

Perhaps I’ve enjoyed playing the role too much.

It was a moment for some reflection.

***

“What?! The Duke is not here?!”

Despite my astonishment, Luciana calmly sipped her tea.

“Father has recently gone to the Barant fortress, where the offensive has intensified.”

“That’s unfortunate…!”

I had been short-sighted.

I should have realized when Tyrone’s minions were found in the territory.

The Speda stronghold has never fallen, being a natural fortress of tremendous strength.

Naturally, for demons of that caliber to infiltrate, there had to be a gap somewhere.

‘I didn’t expect the Duke to be taking on that role. What a letdown.’

The plan filled with easy victories was thwarted.

“You seem disappointed as well. So am I. It’s a coincidence that the hearts of the lord and servant align.”

How she saw my despair.

She rose from her seat with a gentle smile.

“I pleaded to be of help in the fight, but Father was worried. He said to be careful, as I’ll be going to the academy soon.”

With melancholy in her eyes and an elegant atmosphere, she set down her teacup.

Caught in that picturesque, elegant moment, my eyes were unwittingly stolen away, as if complex problems evaporated in an instant.

“Before going to the academy, it’s a pity you won’t get one last chance to loosen up. Don’t you think, Hans?”

“That, that’s true.”

I stuttered like a fool in response to her question, and her smile deepened upon seeing my reaction.

A radiant beauty that even diminished my own sense of self-reproach.

At this moment, I thought I could easily fill three books with essays on her.

“Well, taking a break like this isn’t so bad. I hear there are subjects related to swordsmanship at the academy, and duels among students are frequent.”

Suddenly, her gaze sharpened.

“Come to think of it, I never asked. Hans, which department are you planning to apply to?”

I snapped back to reality.

The academy was divided into departments based on the students’ talents.

The Martial Arts Department, primarily for learning swordsmanship, a means of self-defense and a noble’s refinement.

The Magic Department, for those chosen by mana to explore the miracles they can create.

And the Political Science Department, analyzing politics, an essential virtue for most noble offspring.

There was no need to ponder.

The essence of power and the core of supporting Luciana lay in Political Science.

“Obviously, Political…”

Her brows furrowed instantly.

‘It’s not the answer I wanted,’ her face seemed to say.

“…would be quite different from the atmosphere in the North. It must be the Martial Arts Department, right?”

Only after my response did Luciana nod in satisfaction.

“Right. To assist me, you naturally have to join the swordsmanship department. A wise choice.”

I found myself nodding along with her, my course decided somewhat forcibly, but what does it matter?

Plans can change.

‘To support my favorite character at school and be by her side at all times? Even better.’

From the time school starts to the time it ends.

To be by her side as a follower for such long hours.

I was already savoring Elizabeth’s jealous face.

-Ding.

My blissful daydreams were interrupted by a loud alarm sound.

[Emergency Mission Alert!]

[Within a few hours, invaders will start attacking the location of ‘Oparn’.]

[Remaining Time: 02:59:59]

‘That’s much sooner than I thought.’

Like with Bathory, it seemed they had some way of figuring out locations on their side.

While refilling her empty teacup, I casually asked.

“Lady Luciana, did the Duke lead the troops himself?”

“No, Father said the soldiers stationed at Barant were sufficient. He only took my brother along to gain experience.”

Meaning the soldiers here were still intact.

There was no reason not to use them.

“Actually, I heard something serious from Bathory.”

“The demon?”

Just the mention of a demon’s name seemed to sour Luciana’s mood, her displeasure not hidden.

“She should stick to her maid duties instead of blabbering unnecessary things to my subordinates about some trivial contract.”

A harsher rebuke than expected. Perhaps it’s about human compatibility.

The hostility towards Bathory, who is still a demon, seemed to persist.

“She said she felt an awkward flow of mana.”

“What do you mean?”

“She warned me to be cautious because there are unpleasant intruders nearby.”

Sorry, Bathory. I’m selling your name here.

Clang-.

As if to underscore Luciana’s sentiment, the sound of the teacup and saucer clashing echoed through the room. I gave a quick glance at the undulating shadows beneath my feet, hinting at their presence.

“Intruders. Has Barant’s fortress defense been breached?”

“From my analysis, yes.”

“Hmph. Hard to believe.”

Even as she said this, Luciana’s face bore a mix of seriousness and concern.

Knowing Bathory’s competence as a wizard from personal encounters, she couldn’t easily dismiss his contracted advice.

“With the Duke and the young Duke absent, you’re the only one here with the right to make decisions, Lady Luciana.”

She was the only one of the Speda lineage currently at the estate.

“May I suggest a plan?”

“Planning to do something reckless again, I presume.”

Her lips curled up in a smirk.

“Let’s hear it. Though I call it reckless, your advice has never been wrong.”

“Thank you for the high praise.”

Slowly and in detail, I shared my thoughts with Luciana.

***

“It’s quiet.”

“The humans must all be sleeping off. Lax discipline.”

Robed figures gathered around the moonlit black walls of the castle.

“It’s high. Not as much as that fortress, though.”

“What shall we do?”

“What do you mean? Overcome it as we did with the fortress.”

Leading the way, one figure scaled the wall as if walking on flat ground.

-Psshht.

The wall crumbled wherever his bare feet touched, his long claws and extreme muscles securely anchoring him.

Moreover, the wings he spread out balanced him, making the climb as easy as walking on flat ground.

Magic circles for demon sniping, tall and thick walls, all rendered useless.

“What are you doing? Follow me.”

After scolding his followers, he looked down from the top of the wall.

‘That’s the place.’

‘The descendants of the great warriors are staying there.’

The tracking device in his hand was glowing red, indicating the target was indeed there.

“Hehe. Good. It’s been a while since we destroyed everything.”

For Levains, combat was both a duty and a ritual that brought exhilaration.

A wide grin spread across the leader’s face.

Hyun-soo, who visited the Vatican, was able to meet with Pope Carsele.

Carsele was very friendly toward Hyun-soo.

“I am considering designating this signature sword as a sacred artifact of our Ares religion. Thank you, this signature sword will elevate our name even further.”

[Your crafted signature sword will be designated as a sacred artifact (聖物) of the Ares religion.]

[You gain 100 Fame.]

[You gain 30 Charisma.]

“Aria said she would charge 30% more, but I have a different idea.”

Hyun-soo’s heart inexplicably raced.

After all, it was the Pope.

It was because Carsele was making an effort to show himself in a good light to him.

“The value of this signature sword is greater and more beautiful, so I’ve decided to pay an additional 10% value, making it 1.6 million gold.”

It was an astonishing amount.

1.6 billion won in Korean currency.

“Would it be alright to entrust you with a task next time?”

Carsele had heard that Hyun-soo was an outstanding warrior and an excellent blacksmith.

It meant he was willing to entrust him with any mission.

“Of course.”

With that, Hyun-soo immediately left the Vatican and logged out.

And then he applied to exchange the gold.

Hyun-soo wanted to see the money in his account in person, so he went to the counter to check it.

1.6 billion won.

Since the remaining hospital bills were about 700 million won, he would still have nearly 900 million won left after paying them off.

Hyun-soo couldn’t help but tear up.

The hospital bills that had amounted to several billion won.

It was essentially the end of his life, but it was the beginning of a new life for Hyun-soo.

And he made a promise to be happy once more at the words of an elder as he left the bank.

He immediately went to the hospital and paid off all the hospital bills.

What to do with the remaining money was something he still needed to think about.

And Hyun-soo was left with a bit of leisure time.

What to do during this leisure time?

Hyun-soo could decide quickly.

“Recreate the Disaster’s Coat.”

The power of telekinesis stemming from the command of disaster imbued in the Disaster’s Coat seemed quite remarkable.

To Hyun-soo, the Disaster’s Coat appeared to contain many powers that were unnecessary for him.

“Adjusting the artifact to suit me also signifies my growth.”

After all, Hyun-soo’s level was still only in the 220s.

And as much as Hyun-soo has grown, the levels of the players playing the game have been exponentially increasing.

An outstanding artifact was also Hyun-soo’s strength in narrowing that gap.

[Connecting to Ares.]

***

“It’s alright, Bella.”

Saint Aria’s prayers drove away all the diseases, and Bella, lying in the hospital room, confessed her disloyal heart to Barad.

However, Barad shook his head generously as if it was rather fortunate.

Bella cautiously asked what she was curious about.

“Why did you let the assassin named Brock go?”

He was someone who attempted to assassinate the king. Bella could not understand why he would let such a person go.

“I am getting old, and that child is ripening.”

What a sad thing to say.

But for some reason,

Barad seemed full of excitement.

“It’s been 15 years since we’ve been in a cold war with the Kingdom of Praham.”

The Kingdom of Praham was twice as big as the Kingdom of Goyard.

“We’ve been in a silent war all this time.”

They just hadn’t marched their troops into each other’s territory.

It wouldn’t be strange if a war broke out at any time.

“So I thought about it. Hyun-soo needs to grow day by day and gain more recognition from the people, and even the nobles.”

Bella agreed.

He was just a junior baron now, about the rank of a knight.

“He will have to accomplish countless tasks to finally reach this position, I hope for his growth, the end of this weary war, and for him to gain even more.”

Bella didn’t understand his words for a moment.

“What do you mean by that……?”

“Do you know how I felt when I first learned about the blacksmith Hyun (現)?”

Bella admired Barad’s foresight.

At that time, Barad’s emotions seemed to be,

‘Blacksmith Hyun (現). I desperately want to meet him.’

That was the emotion Barad had felt, and it must be what the king of the Kingdom of Praham would feel.

At that moment,

Brock, who had returned alive after losing an arm,

Brock was treated by the priests of Goyard and was fine except for the missing arm.

The king of the Kingdom of Praham, who was receiving a report from him,

He was one of the ten legends of the continent, Spear Heaven, and he was an old man.

Ben, who was listening to the report on the throne, was surprised.

“Although I failed in the assassination, I have listened to their stories with all ears open.”

Ben felt an indescribable emotion.

It was about the blacksmith Hyun (現).

His curiosity about him.

And it made him touch his worn-out spear.

He was feeling exactly what Barad had felt.

But Ben shook his head.

“It’s not what you heard, it’s what Barad allowed you to hear.”

He had let Brock go and conveyed that story.

Ben understood his intention precisely.

‘Don’t you also want a splendid spear? But what to do? The creator of that spear is a noble from our kingdom?’

Barad was a sly fox.

He was extending his hand for peace while trying to hold the reins of that peace.

Another curious thing was this,

‘Why reveal such a valuable talent…?’

Ben’s eyes widened.

‘Is it to that extent?’

Barad had made a choice for him too.

He already cherished him by his side, but he hoped for him to go further and accumulate more wealth and fame.

It was like this,

‘My friend, isn’t he impressive? Please look forward to what comes next.’

It’s as if he was confident not to lose Hyun, yet he also wanted to show off that power.

And he was half successful.

Ben felt an irresistible greed.

But that didn’t mean he planned to give up control.

‘I too wish I had an outstanding spear.’

However, Ben was even more cunning than Barad.

“It would be interesting, Blacksmith Hyun (現). If we ask him to make a spear that cannot be made, both Barad and the blacksmith named Hyun could be disgraced.”

A vision appeared before him.

The sight of Blacksmith Hyun sweating profusely, receiving an impossible request to craft a spear.

He immediately summoned the blacksmiths and ordered them.

“Look into making a spear that seems impossible to create.”

After the blacksmiths left, Brock asked.

“What if the spear that is supposed to be impossible to make actually gets made?”

“It won’t be easy. The whole point is to propose something that can’t be made.”

Finally, Ben moved on.

Then he reconsidered.

What should be done if a spear that others cannot make is actually possible to create?

‘That’s an obvious question.’

If such a spear were to be made, he would be the one sweating profusely on that day.

Because he would want that spear too much.

***

Hyun-soo clearly understood the advantages of being a descendant of the blacksmith god.

Custom crafting.

The grade of an artifact is determined not only by its defense or attack power but also by the number and amount of effects it possesses.

In other words, the higher the number of skills and the higher the increase in any stat, the higher the grade.

Custom crafting is different.

‘It’s tailored exactly to my needs, eliminating anything unnecessary.’

That’s why Hyun-soo decided to recreate the Disaster’s Coat.

Hyun-soo’s divine custom repair obtained previously.

The power to remove the unnecessary and insert something new.

This includes not just repairs but also restoration and recreation.

The reason Hyun-soo decided to recreate the Disaster’s Coat.

‘There are too many skills I don’t need.’

Firstly,

The Disaster’s Coat has the power of instant death.

The passive skill of instant death has this power.

‘Randomly causes instant death to one of those who fear you with a 0.4% chance.’

What kind of ridiculous skill is that?

Of course, if Hyun-soo were truly a disaster, it would be a necessary skill.

Just facing a disaster would cause someone to die, and the fear of it would reach its peak.

But if Hyun-soo actually became like that, he would likely be expelled from the kingdom.

‘This is actually excellent in a different view.’

It’s absurd but indeed a powerful ability.

Wouldn’t it be better to upgrade this to a different effect?

The power Hyun-soo wanted to upgrade was exactly the command of disaster.

The ability to stop everything around with telekinesis for 6 seconds.

[Beginning divine custom repair.]

It removes instant death and the power to induce fear, known as the majesty of disaster.

Instead, it changes to stopping all things with telekinesis for 6 seconds.

In what way?

‘To freely control real telekinesis.’

Just stopping things and telekinesis controlled by Hyun-soo himself are completely different.

Hyun-soo stayed up for two days straight to finally complete it.

[You have recreated it with craftsmanship superior to the original creator.]

[You have renamed it to the Monarch’s Coat.]

[The effects of the Monarch’s Coat are 6% superior and it boasts a new appearance.]

Hyun-soo truly admired it.

(Monarch’s Coat)

Grade: Unique

Durability: 9,000/9,000

Defense: 431

Requirement: Level 200 or above

Special Abilities:

· Charisma increase by 30.

· Active Skill: Command of the Monarch.

· Passive Skill: Command of Disaster.

· When wearing an additional disaster artifact, all effects increase by 5%.

Description: An artifact symbolizing the fifth disaster, Jack, it was closest to being legendary but has been recreated by a more superior blacksmith.

The Command of Disaster that Hyun-soo wanted to maximize.

It existed as both an active and a passive skill.

And to differentiate them, the active was changed to Command of the Monarch.

The passive was kept as is.

And the effects of both were slightly different.

What Hyun-soo wanted was the change in the active skill, Command of the Monarch.

(Command of the Monarch)

Active Skill

Mana Cost: 500

Cooldown: 20 minutes.

Effects:

· You can freely control all objects within a 50m radius with telekinesis for 12 seconds.

· Impossible if the target’s level is 100 above yours.

The original ability to stop what you want for just 6 seconds has greatly increased to 12 seconds.

‘Should I try it?’

Hyun-soo tested the newly acquired Command of the Monarch.

***

Manager Nel was on her way to the blacksmith shop, a base, to meet Hyun-soo.

She was actually quite worried.

‘He might become a king in the future…?’

Of course, it would be a joyous occasion if Guild Master Hyun-soo really did become one.

However, she thought it might be too soon.

Of course, it wasn’t happening right now, but she and Hyun-soo had only met a few months ago.

‘The life of a noble is not easy.’

The first time she saw Hyun-soo, he was certainly cool, but unknowingly filled with darkness.

He had a lot of worries and concerns, struggling with hospital bills and other things. His shoulders were broad but seemed somehow drooping.

Of course, part of her visit was to congratulate him now that he had solved the hospital bill issue.

But the person who was like that just a few months ago now has to live the life of a noble.

‘Perhaps he needs a little more time?’

She genuinely worried for Hyun-soo and for the sake of the guild’s future. Of course, it was a situation already in motion, so she could only worry.

Entering the blacksmith shop, the base, Nel was speechless.

‘It wasn’t too soon…’

People have innate qualities.

Even if those qualities are hidden, their essence doesn’t disappear.

Nel found the scene before her simply awe-inspiring.

Hammers, anvils, nails, screws, countless materials for crafting artifacts.

Those materials were gently floating around Hyun-soo, who was wearing the coat.

The forge, which should have been roaring with flames,
