“Is this your first time visiting Lumeria since enrolling?” Leo inquired as they disembarked from the regular ferry that traveled between Lumeren and Lumeria, and Selia nodded in response.

“Same here. I’ve been busier than I expected, so I haven’t had the chance to come here.”

While many Lumeren students visited Lumeria every weekend, there weren’t many first-year students who did so regularly. The primary reason was their unfamiliarity with the academic schedule.

Leo adjusted his uniform collar and remarked, “Isn’t it quite strict to have to wear uniforms even in Lumeria?”

Selia responded, “I don’t mind. Our academy’s uniform is well-designed, and being a Lumeren student is an honor in itself.”

She continued, “The reason for such a rule is to discourage unruly behavior in Lumeria. If you’re wearing the uniform, any misbehavior is immediately reported to the school. That’s why I’ve heard many students break this rule, especially if they’re caught by a professor.”

Selia pantomimed a throat-slitting gesture with her hand and added, “Then they’re in trouble.”

True to her words, many students were casually dressed in Lumeria, and a significant number of them were caught by professors.

Leo then asked, “So, why did the student council president want to see you and me?”

It seemed unusual for the student council president, who was busy with assignments, to request their presence.

Selia appeared incredulous and asked, “You genuinely don’t know?”

Leo responded, “I’m asking because I don’t.”

Selia sighed deeply and explained, “You don’t know who the student council president is?”

Leo admitted, “I don’t know.”

Selia then revealed, “The student council president, Lis, is the heir of our family! He’s your cousin!”

Surprised, Leo asked, “Really? My cousin is the student council president?”

Selia confirmed, “Yes! How could you not know Lis? He’s the top student in Lumeren and the heir of our family!”

Leo replied, “One can be unaware.”

While Leo nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders, Selia clutched her head in frustration.

Amidst their conversation, they reached the inn where they had lodged prior to the entrance ceremony.

Cling- Cling-

Upon pushing the door open and stepping inside, a bell chimed, announcing their arrival.

“Welcome! Oh, you’re Lumeren students, aren’t you? Planning to stay the weekend?” The inn’s employee beamed with enthusiasm.

Selia inquired, “Is Lis Zerdingher staying here?”

“Are you asking about Lis Zerdingher? Yes, he’s a guest here. Are you accompanying him or do you have a separate reservation?”

Lis Zerdingher, the heir and student council president of Lumeren, was a well-known figure, and many sought to forge connections with him. The hotel staff had encountered such situations numerous times, so they exercised caution.

Selia replied, “I am…”

“Ah? Isn’t this Selia!” At that moment, someone in the lobby recognized her.

A man with black hair and eyes, who appeared to be of Eastern descent, approached them with a warm smile.

“Lee Zamoa, it’s been a while,” Selia greeted him formally.

Lee Zamoa, a fifth-year student at Lumeren.

“Haha! No need for such formality between us,” Zamoa laughed heartily.

“Hotel staff, these are our guests.”

“Apologies for any inconvenience.”

“No problem. Let’s proceed inside.”

Lee Zamoa led Selia and Leo into the inn, gesturing for them to follow.

“By the way, who’s this?” he inquired.

“This is Leo Plov. He’s my cousin.”

“Ho? Are you the famous first-year representative?”

Zamoa’s eyes sparkled.

An All-Class Talent.

This fact alone was enough to astonish not only their grade but the entire school. In the history of Lumeren, which exclusively admitted students with extraordinary talents, an All-Class Talent was unprecedented. Some students and professors still harbored doubts about Leo.

‘Well, even in my previous life, people marveled at me when I mentioned I had dual classes,’ Leo, understanding the skepticism, simply accepted it.

“You seem like an exceptional knight,” Zamoa remarked while studying Leo.

“Lis is waiting. Let’s head upstairs,” Zamoa said, leading the way with expansive strides.

“Magic is great, and summoning is too! But most importantly, it’s this body!” Zamoa thumped his chest with his fist. “If you hone your swordsmanship alongside your magic and summoning abilities, you’ll likely become an outstanding knight!”

Selia nodded in agreement. “He’s right, Leo. You’ve been neglecting your swordsmanship lately.”

Zamoa responded, “No way! Neglecting training won’t lead to becoming an excellent knight.”

“Really? Selia, shall we increase our training intensity?”

Selia, who regretted bringing up the topic, avoided Leo’s gaze.

Unaware of the situation, Zamoa assumed Leo was enthusiastic and smiled approvingly. “Great attitude!”

“Quiet, Zamoa.”

As they neared the top of the staircase, a stern voice interrupted their conversation.

“Do you not remember the professors’ admonition not to casually discuss departments with dual-class students? Furthermore, you’re assigning a department to a junior you just met?”

A Southern woman with a light brown complexion and reddish-brown eyes leaned against the wall in the second-floor corridor. She was dressed in Lumeren’s uniform and displayed a badge with the number 5 on her left chest, signifying her seniority. The book and staff emblem stitched on her right shoulder indicated her affiliation with the magic department.

The woman moved away from the wall, clicked her heels as she brushed past Zamoa, and positioned herself in front of Leo and Selia.

“Hello, my name is Torua Yan. You must be Selia? I’ve heard a lot about you from Lis.”

“Hello, Senior Torua.”

Although it was their first encounter, Selia had also received information about Torua from Lis. Torua held the top position among fifth-year students in the magic department’s written exam.

“And you must be Leo Plov, correct?”

Torua scrutinized Leo in silence and then sneered.

“Professor Ren praised you so highly that I had expectations, but… what’s with this meager amount of mana? I feel foolish for expecting more.”

“Are you calling Leo inadequate?”

Selia retorted, her anger evident.

“I’m merely stating the facts. So, Leo.”

Click, click.

Torua advanced toward Leo and continued, “Abandon your knight and summoning classes immediately and focus solely on magic.”

She draped her arm around Leo’s shoulder and pointed upward.

“Leo, look up. Do you see your potential shining like stars in the night sky?”

“All I see is the magical chandelier on the ceiling.”

“You misunderstood. I mean, close your eyes and visualize.”

“Then all I’ll see is darkness.”

“You possess the ability to intuitively assess things, a quality crucial for a wizard. It appears you’re a natural wizard.”

Torua was a typical mage who spoke her mind without restraint.

“Senior Torua, didn’t you just say not to assign departments…”

“Selia, I’m sorry, but this is a matter for the magic department, so please don’t interfere.”

Selia narrowed her eyes and sought clarification from Zamoa, “Is this allowed?”

“Of course not, but she’s a staunch advocate for magic, and she won’t listen no matter what.”

Zamoa shook his head.

“If the professors find out, she’ll be in significant trouble, won’t she?”

“But the professors are unaware.”

“They’ll eventually find out.”

“How?”

“Because I’ll report her.”

In response to this complex friendship that had developed over five years, Selia wore an expression of astonishment.

***

“Brother!”

“Selia, how have you been?”

Upon entering Lis’s room, Selia warmly embraced Lis.

Observing this, Leo wore a look of amazement.

Selia, who had always maintained a dignified demeanor as a member of the Zerdingher family, was now displaying a more youthful and carefree side in front of Leo.

“So, she really is just a fifteen-year-old kid, huh?” Lis chuckled at Selia’s age-appropriate behavior and addressed Leo. “You must be Leo. I’ve heard a lot about you. How’s Aunt?”

“Yes, you’ve met my mother before?”

“I encountered her when I was young. I’ve sent her letters multiple times since arriving at Lumeren.”

“Letters to aunt?”

Surprised by Selia’s reaction, Lis smiled.

“Aunt was quite renowned during her school days. You’ll naturally hear legends about her as you navigate your school life.”

“Like what?”

“For instance, she rallied students and marched into the principal’s office because the dormitory cafeteria desserts were terrible. That’s a legendary tale.”

“That was Aunt?”

“It seems like something my mother would do.” Leo confirmed with a smile.

Selia was left astounded by the revelation, while Leo appeared unsurprised by the story.

“Yes, thanks to her, students can now savor delicious desserts in the dormitory cafeteria. I tried those desserts from back then, and as the student council president, I wholeheartedly supported Aunt’s stance.”

Lis nodded, chuckling.

“I apologize for calling you both over on the weekend, but I thought we might not have the chance to meet once school starts again. That’s why I invited you like this.”

“I don’t mind!” Selia responded.

After a long time, Selia was acting more carefree and engaging in pleasant conversation.

While caring for his sister, Lis also took notice of Leo.

‘I can see why Selia admires him.’

As Zerdingher’s successor and the student council president of Lumeren, Lis was a man without imperfections. Both his abilities and character were truly exceptional.

‘He’s close to becoming a hero.’

Lis’s ascent to the status of a hero felt like just a matter of time.

“So, brother! Which hero’s dungeon did you explore this time? Who was the hero?” Selia inquired during their conversation.

“That’s still classified, so I can’t tell you. But I can reveal that we retrieved two pages.”

“Really?”

“Yes, although one is so damaged that it can’t even be incorporated into the hero’s world,” Lis regretfully stated as he glanced at the time.

Dinner was already upon them.

“Do you two know about the hidden gem restaurants in Lumeren?”

“I don’t. Are there such places?”

“Absolutely. Do you think I’ve spent five years in Lumeren for nothing? I’ll take you to an exceptionally delightful spot tonight.”

“Wow!” Selia beamed and rose from her seat enthusiastically.

“Leo, do you have any dietary restrictions?”

“I can eat anything.”

“Is that so? Alright, head downstairs first. I’ll wrap up a few things and then join you.”

Selia playfully pushed Leo forward and left, humming a tune.

Lis retrieved a sealed box containing the Hero Record pages he had recovered this time from his belongings. It was something he couldn’t show to ordinary students, so he always carried it with him when going out.

Holding the palm-sized box, Lis hesitated. He sensed an unusual surge of power emanating from the box.

‘What is this? Is the hero dungeon I tackled this time on the brink of going berserk?’

Lis tensed up.

The torn pages remained in an unstable state. Even after being conquered, there were instances when they would go berserk again, giving rise to a new hero dungeon.

Furrowing his brows, Lis cautiously opened the box to inspect its contents.

The Hero Record displayed no response.

‘Wait a minute. Could it be?’

With haste, he opened the box containing the heavily damaged page.

A small fragment of the page, roughly the size of a fingertip, emitted a faint gray glow.

Lis couldn’t help but be astonished as the page, which had shown no reaction until now, revealed its latent power.

‘What on earth is this…?’

Wednesday.

The history class had just concluded. Sang-ho was erasing the chalkboard and addressed the students.

“Shall we hold the next class outdoors? Wait outside, change into your athletic attire, and join me.”

“Yes.”

“Teacher…”

Among the responses from Se-hee and Tae-hwa, a small voice emerged.

Sang-ho widened his eyes, gazing at Na-bit.

“Huh? What’s the matter, Na-bit?”

“I believe I left my gym uniform at home…”

Na-bit hesitated and looked up at Sang-ho, her hands anxiously twisting.

Sang-ho glanced at Se-hee and Tae-hwa.

“Se-hee has a different uniform for martial arts… Tae-hwa, do you have a gym uniform in the dorm?”

Since Tae-hwa wore only a skirt due to her tail, she must have spare pants. However, Tae-hwa avoided his gaze and mumbled,

“I sold it…”

“You sold it?”

“Girls’ gym uniforms can be sold for a high price… I don’t wear it anyway.”

Sang-ho was unfamiliar with this.

“So, you don’t have one. Hmm…”

He couldn’t force Se-hee and Tae-hwa to lend their clothes, especially if they would get all dirty. After a moment of thought, Sang-ho asked Na-bit,

“Do you want to wear mine? I’ll fetch it from my quarters.”

“No, I’ll just attend the class like this. It’s fine.”

“You might scrape your knee.”

“I can heal myself.”

Na-bit tried to smile brightly. Sang-ho reluctantly nodded.

“Alright. Everyone, get ready and come out. I’ll wait for you on the field.”

“Okay~.”

He left the classroom following the children’s response.

***

“Kyah!”

Na-bit stumbled forward.

She tripped while dodging the stuffed bear’s attack. Sang-ho quickly approached her.

“Are you okay?”

“Ouch…”

Tears welled in Na-bit’s eyes as she lifted her head. Blood streamed from her scraped knee. Not only that, but her school uniform was covered in dirt. Sang-ho helped her up and sat her down. Brushing the dust off her shoulder, dirt scattered in the air.

“Told you so….”

“Uh…”

Na-bit reached for her knee, emitting a faint light from her hand. It wasn’t a heat he could feel, but it was warm. New skin formed wherever the light touched, healing the wound. Watching this, Sang-ho patted her back.

“At least you healed quickly. That’s a relief.”

“It’s no big deal.”

Na-bit smiled.

She stood up as if she was never hurt and created a barrier against the stuffed bear. Sang-ho originally wanted her to rest but seeing her eager to continue the lesson, he held his tongue and manipulated the bear again.

“Here I come, Na-bit.”

“Yes!”

The stuffed bear charged at the barrier.

***

End of the day.

Sang-ho looked at Na-bit, who appeared more timid than usual. Her uniform still had dirt stains, which seemed out of place for a rich girl like her.

“Na-bit, you should do laundry once you get home.”

“Hehe…”

She smiled, but there was a hint of unease in her eyes. Sensing her mood, Sang-ho asked,

“Is something wrong?”

“No…”

Na-bit hid her eyes behind a playful smile, ensuring that he couldn’t discern her true feelings.

“I’m fine. It’s nothing.”

“Really?”

He didn’t want to press her further. Looking at the children, he remarked,

“Great job today, see you tomorrow.”

“Yes!”

“Take care.”

While Tae-hwa and Se-hee cheerfully bid him farewell and left the classroom, Na-bit exited with a heavy heart.

Observing her demeanor, Sang-ho contemplated whether he should offer her counseling right away.

‘…She said she’s okay. I shouldn’t intrude too much. I’ll observe and decide tomorrow.’

With that thought, he locked the door and prepared to leave, unaware that he might not see Na-bit the following day.

***

The next morning.

Before the students arrived, Sang-ho was in the teachers’ office, studying mana theories.

Today, for some reason, his left leg felt sore and numb, which was quite uncomfortable.

‘Darn, no matter how I look at this, the content seems wrong…’

As he furrowed his brow and pored over the thick book, the office door suddenly swung open. Sang-ho quickly looked up.

“Sang-ho! Mr. Sang-ho!”

The person who rushed in was Seolmi.

She hurriedly approached and grabbed Sang-ho’s shoulder, shaking him. Her hands trembled.

“Sa, Sang-ho, among your students… Oops.”

Seolmi slapped her own cheeks and whispered into Sang-ho’s ear.

“Do you have the daughter of the chairman of Taegweol Group in your class?”

“Ah…”

A sinking feeling washed over Sang-ho.

Na-bit’s father.

‘I knew this would come.’

The chairman of a prominent domestic corporation, the Taegweol Group.

But such a title didn’t matter. Whether he was wealthy or a celebrity frequently featured on the front pages, Sang-ho didn’t care. The only thing that mattered was one thing.

The parent.

To a teacher, they were like the sky.

‘So, this is what Na-bit was worried about.’

She must have been caught because of the dirt. Rising from his seat, Sang-ho inquired,

“Is he here at the school?”

“It’s a disaster! He’s currently in the principal’s office, furious. Let’s hurry. Quickly!”

Seolmi wrapped her arm around Sang-ho’s shoulder. With her support, he swiftly made his way to the principal’s office.

Even before reaching the principal’s office, they could hear the loud, enraged voices. Seolmi’s anxious eyes met Sang-ho’s.

“As soon as you enter, bow.”

“I mean, even if I bow…”

“Do it! If you get fired, I’ll be the junior again.”

Seolmi patted Sang-ho’s back as they reached the door of the principal’s office.

‘…This is crazy.’

Should he really bow? Sang-ho sighed deeply and gripped the door handle. Seolmi whispered, clasping her hands as if praying,

“Do your best.”

Taking a deep breath, Sang-ho opened the door. The noisy room suddenly fell silent.

Inside were four individuals: Haelan and three unfamiliar men. Haelan, as usual, occupied her desk, while the men sat on the sofa. All eyes turned to Sang-ho.

One of them was a middle-aged man with neatly trimmed white hair and a beard, a face he recognized from newspaper articles. Next to him sat a young, burly man.

In front of them was a sharp-looking man in his 30s.

‘Who is he?’

Sang-ho briefly pondered. The middle-aged man was undoubtedly Na-bit’s father, and the burly man beside him likely served as a bodyguard.

But who was the man in front? Sang-ho had a hunch.

If he had affiliations with the school, yet Sang-ho had never seen him, and he was in a meeting with the principal and the chairman of Taegweol Group, he must be a representative figure.

The chairman of Ye-hyeon Girls’ High School.

‘…Probably.’

Sang-ho nodded slightly.

“I’m Kang Sang-ho.”

“You’re Kang Sang-ho?”

The middle-aged man with white hair stood up abruptly, his face contorted with anger.

“Did you teach my daughter to fight? Encouraged her to be a faith healer who fights?!”

Sang-ho had to suppress an immediate retort. Based on his battlefield experience, it was common sense for faith healers to know self-defense.

He had come prepared to be extremely apologetic, but anger kept welling up inside him.

However, he couldn’t let that anger show.

“I understand your concern, sir.”

Sang-ho bowed his head once more.

“We initially applied for a different teacher. How did you end up as the homeroom teacher? Is there something wrong with this school?!”

“I apologize for any inconvenience, sir.”

Sang-ho bowed again.

“If you entrust your daughter to me, I will ensure she becomes someone who can protect herself and chart her own path.”

“I make the decisions about my daughter’s future! All she needs is bodyguards for protection! What do you know about making her fight? I pay the tuition for this school precisely for her to focus on her mana healing!”

Sang-ho listened in silence.

“Do you realize that if she believes she can fight because of your teachings and gets into an accident while secretly working as a hunter, you will bear the responsibility? Can you handle that burden?”

The mention of a student secretly working as a hunter and having an accident struck a chord with Sang-ho.

He was already aware of one student who had done just that.

“…If that’s your concern, then you should trust me even more.”

Sang-ho’s statement made Bong-jin’s face shift through various shades of red and purple.

“What kind of nonsense is that?”

“If she relies solely on bodyguards and encounters a monster stronger than them, what will she do? Succumb without resistance?”

“By that logic, nobody would ever be safe!”

“In reality, such situations are quite common.”

“Reality? What do you know?”

Sang-ho locked eyes with Haelan.

Without uttering a word, she closed her eyes, as if comprehending everything.

Sang-ho redirected his gaze to Bong-jin.

“I’m just a retired hunter.”

“On whose authority…”

“I’ve witnessed countless people meet their end despite giving their all. If you don’t give your best, death comes even easier. That’s why I teach my students how to fight to the best of their abilities, whether it’s martial arts, magic, spells, or faith. It doesn’t matter.”

Sang-ho maintained a firm gaze on Bong-jin.

“Na-bit is stronger than you might think. Would you consider allowing me to teach her for just one year? By the second year, you can change her homeroom teacher. I’m only asking for that much time.”

Bong-jin stared at him in silence.

Finally, he spoke.

“No.”

Sang-ho felt deflated.

Bong-jin shook his head.

“You can’t teach her combat. Starting next week, she’ll be placed under another teacher. Understand?”

“Sir…”

“I’ve made up my mind. Principal, please make the necessary arrangements.”

“If that’s the case, sir. Please allow me to make one more request.”

“What is it?”

“Explain your perspective to Na-bit… and then let her make the choice herself. If she decides to change her homeroom teacher, I will willingly step aside.”

Bong-jin looked puzzled.

“Why are you so fixated on my daughter? You…”

“I can’t give up on a student who hasn’t given up.”

Sang-ho responded with unwavering determination.

Bong-jin contemplated after meeting his gaze.

“…I’ll consider it.”

“Thank you.”

Sang-ho lowered his head.

Then, the sharp-looking man who had been quietly observing stood up from the sofa.

“It appears that matters have been somewhat resolved. Chairman, I understand you’re busy, so let’s conclude this. I’ll accompany you to the school gate.”

“Yes. My apologies for the morning interruption. I had no other available time.”

Bong-jin exited the principal’s office, followed by his bodyguard and the man who appeared to be the school’s chairman.

‘Sigh…’

Sang-ho exchanged glances with Haelan, who wore a similar expression.

“You handled it well, Teacher Kang.”

“I’m not sure if it was the right decision.”

“You would have been in a worse position with the chairman if you had given in. Standing your ground was the right choice.”

Is that what this is about? Sang-ho cleared his throat.

“What kind of teacher does the chairman prefer?”

“Someone firm and resolute. Similar to me. He simply doesn’t favor you because your abilities haven’t been proven. If he knew what you had experienced, he would probably have a different opinion. He respects strength.”

Despite appearing distant from the world of combat on the surface, it seemed the chairman had a different side.

Sang-ho felt a heaviness in his chest. His primary concern was Na-bit.

“Did Na-bit not come to school then?”

“She likely didn’t. If she had, she would have come with her father.”

“Ugh…”

Na-bit didn’t have a cellphone, so Sang-ho had no means of reaching her, even though he wanted to talk to her.

He sighed in frustration.

“I suppose I should mark her as absent?”

“Yes, you should. You don’t need to cater to the parents.”

Haelan nodded.

“Go teach your class. You handled the situation well.”

With heavy steps, Sang-ho headed to the classroom.

It was already past the start of class. As Sang-ho opened the classroom door, Tae-hwa and Se-hee greeted him.

“Teacher, you’re late! Late!”

“Teacher, Na-bit hasn’t shown up.”

Seeing the concern on Sang-ho’s face, the girls widened their eyes.

“What happened?”

“Is something wrong with Na-bit?”

“You two don’t need to worry.”

Sang-ho retrieved the attendance book and grabbed a pen. The names of Se-hee, Tae-hwa, and Na-bit were neatly written on the attendance list from top to bottom.

Cheon Se-hee, checked.

Lee Tae-hwa, checked.

Hana Na-bit.

His hand halted.

‘It feels really odd not to check it.’

It was the first time there had been an empty space. Sang-ho glanced at Na-bit’s desk, which remained as vacant as the unchecked box on the attendance sheet.

It felt incredibly awkward. She had always occupied that seat.

‘Na-bit can handle it. She’s not foolish.’

He reassured himself and closed the attendance book.

***

The following day.

Sang-ho stood at his desk, gazing at the students.

It was a repeat of the previous day.

“…Na-bit didn’t come again today.”

Se-hee cast a silent glance at Na-bit’s desk, while Tae-hwa idly swung her feet and rested her head on her desk.

“Ugh~ Now it’s just Se-hee and me left, ugh~.”

Fiddling with the attendance book, Sang-ho got lost in thought.

‘I haven’t heard anything about her transferring to another class… Did she not come to school at all today?’

He felt like he should make a call.

Na-bit’s home phone number was saved in his cell phone. He retrieved his phone and approached the door.

“I’ll make a quick call and be right back.”

Stepping outside the classroom, he shut the door and pressed the call button. Before the dial tone could even begin, someone answered.

[Who’s calling?]

It was a young male voice. Sang-ho briefly wondered if he had dialed the wrong number.

However, when he was immediately asked for his name, he realized this wasn’t an ordinary home phone; it was likely a secretary’s phone.

“This is Kang Sang-ho, a teacher from Ye-hyeon High School. Is this Chairman Ha’s residence?”

[Yes. What’s your message? I’ll… Huh?]

There was a commotion on the other end of the line. Sang-ho strained his ears but couldn’t make out the sounds.

The noise eventually subsided, and the voice changed.

[Nalse.]

Sang-ho recognized it as Bong-jin.

“Sir. Did Na-bit not come to school again today?”

[Sent her. Did she not go to class? She left a bit late today.]

“Uh… So, am I still Na-bit’s teacher?”

Bong-jin grumbled in response.

[What can I do? She locked herself in her room crying all day. I couldn’t bear it any longer, so I gave in.]

“Thank you, sir.”

Sang-ho expressed his gratitude once more.

“Thank you so much.”

[If my wife had seen her like that, it would’ve caused a scene. It’s fortunate she’s not at home… So be cautious. Only you and I are aware of this. It could lead to significant trouble if my wife discovers it. Handle it discreetly. I’ll pretend to be oblivious.]

A shiver ran down Sang-ho’s spine.

While Bong-jin had granted permission, Na-bit’s mother had not.

‘More challenges lie ahead…’

“I’ll keep that in mind.”

[Alright…]

Bong-jin let out a deep sigh.

[Take care of my daughter.]

A faint smile tugged at the corner of Sang-ho’s mouth.

“I’ll do my best, sir.”

[I don’t care about your best… just make sure she stays safe.]

“Then I’ll do my best to teach her in a way that ensures her safety.”

[You… Sigh, I’m hanging up now.]

“Yes, take care.”

As the call ended, Sang-ho pocketed his phone. With one parent’s consent secured, he felt as though he had conquered one mountain, though more challenges awaited.

As he was about to re-enter the classroom, he spotted someone coming up the stairs.

A gray-haired girl with a bright smile.

She appeared so radiant that it was hard to believe she had been crying all day yesterday.

“Teacher!”

Na-bit rushed forward and hugged Sang-ho tightly, taking him by surprise.

“Uh, um… Na-bit?”

“I thought I wouldn’t see you again…”

She murmured against his chest.

Caught off guard by her unexpected gesture, Sang-ho eventually raised a hand and gently patted her head.

“Let’s go to class.”

“Yes.”

Na-bit clung to Sang-ho’s side, her steps light as they made their way to the classroom. Looking down at her, he felt a sense of contentment.

A radiant smile graced her beautiful face.

“It appears to be a simple illusion spell, yet Chloe Muller can’t handle it?”

“Simple? Did you just describe it as simple, Senior Ain?” Ren inquired with a quivering voice.

“Isn’t it?”

“It is simple! The spell Leo used isn’t complicated in its structure! But that’s not human magic, it’s elf magic!” Ren embraced himself and exclaimed.

“The magical systems of other races are fundamentally distinct from those of humans! Comprehending the structure doesn’t equate to the ability to wield it! It’s a realm of innate talent and intuition that can’t be attained through effort alone! Leo possesses that! It’s evident that the gods have sent Leo to our department of magic!”

“I don’t comprehend your discussion, Ren Hors. Isn’t Leo Plov aspiring to join the knight department?”

“Since you, with your limited intellect, appear to be struggling to grasp this, allow me to elucidate once more.”

“I comprehend perfectly. You’re implying that you desire death.”

Ain smiled coldly and seized Ren by the collar, but Ren paid it no mind and commenced expounding on Leo’s magical aptitude.

***

The students of Class 5 rejoiced, joining hands in celebration.

Objectively, Class 1 possessed an overwhelming advantage, and the game itself unfolded as a one-sided affair.

However, the ultimate outcome favored Class 5.

Selia gritted her teeth, while Duran’s face contorted in frustration.

Chloe remained seated, too stunned to even consider standing up.

“Time to rise, Chloe.”

“Pr, Professor.”

“When the game concludes, irrespective of the outcome, it’s customary to exchange greetings.”

Professor Sedgen gently tapped Chloe’s shoulder and gathered both teams in the center.

“Everyone performed admirably. Class 5 students, return to Hallind and discuss today’s game!”

Professor Sedgen then shifted his attention to the disheartened Class 1 students.

The students of Class 1 were tense.

Professor Sedgen was renowned for his high standards.

His students were all exceptionally talented, known for their remarkable achievements in various academy events.

And yet, they had been defeated by Class 5, the lowest-ranked class in the grade.

The Class 1 students anticipated Professor Sedgen’s anger.

“Elegance! Each one of you who participated in today’s game excelled! I’m genuinely pleased!”

Contrary to expectations, Professor Sedgen commended the students.

“Selia, you demonstrated a deep understanding of your strengths! Your overwhelming destructive power is a testament to your control over the fire aura! However, you should focus on improving your stamina.”

Starting with Selia, Professor Sedgen highlighted the strengths and areas for improvement for each student.

“Duran, your swift actions were as impressive as ever! You executed your moves without wasting any effort! However, you should explore ways to enhance your instantaneous destructive power. Lightning is a potent attribute, too.”

Finally, Professor Sedgen’s gaze settled on Chloe.

Chloe’s throat tightened.

Today’s loss had occurred because she couldn’t contain Leo.

“Chloe, your performance was flawless! You made no mistakes!”

“But I was the reason we lost the game, wasn’t I?”

“It wasn’t because of you, and you didn’t lose. Despite the outcome being a loss, I don’t believe that Class 1 lost to Class 5.”

Professor Sedgen offered a soft smile.

“We dominated the game, and it lasted only twenty minutes. Class 5 showcased remarkable teamwork, but given more time, we could have undoubtedly reversed the result!”

Professor Sedgen patted Chloe’s shoulder.

“And failing to stop Leo at the end was due to his perfect penetration of our defense. No first-year student could have halted Leo. I can assure you of that!”

Professor Sedgen then pointed his finger toward the sky.

“Lift your heads! Look up! The fact that our Class 1 embodies elegance remains unaltered!”

“Professor!”

“Wow! We admire you!”

The Class 1 students showered Professor Sedgen with praise, filled with awe.

They had been mistaken about Professor Sedgen’s reputation and achievements.

He wasn’t a professor solely interested in exceptional students.

The professor was renowned for cherishing the bonds with his students and never giving up on those he taught.

The reason he oversaw Class 1 wasn’t solely because of their high average scores but simply because he favored the number 1 in “Class 1.”

As a result, Class 1 had cultivated a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

“Professor Sedgen.”

“Student Leo, the strategy you displayed in today’s match was impressive. What brings you here?”

“Professor Hallind instructed me to purchase some drinks immediately. He also mentioned that you should start cleaning the bathrooms from today.”

Leo’s words caused the mood of Class 1 to dip once more, and Sedgen’s mouth twitched.

“Oh? Professor Sedgen! Professors Ain and Ren are in a showdown!”

At that moment, Class 1 was startled as they witnessed spells and auras clashing in the middle of the training ground.

“Student Howl.”

“Yes?”

“Would you please fetch some drinks at the café with your friends? Professors Ain and Ren, Hallind will handle them.”

As he spoke, Professor Hallind was already approaching the two professors.

Nervously nodding, Howl and his friends made their way to the campus café.

Leo spitefully added another request.

“The most expensive one.”

“Ugh!”

Sedgen felt a knot in the pit of his stomach.

“I’ll definitely emerge victorious next time! Class 5!”

***

A month had elapsed since the first-years had entered Lumeren.

It had been ample time for the students to acclimate to their new surroundings.

“Haah! Good morning.”

Karl yawned as he settled into his seat.

“Did you work late again last night?”

Chelsea inquired while enjoying her spaghetti in the school cafeteria. Karl scratched his head.

“Yes. The demand for fatigue recovery potions keeps increasing day by day.”

Despite having the lowest combat skills among the first-years, Karl excelled in alchemy and support magic, ranking as a mid-to-high-level student.

Homeroom Professor Hallind had particularly commended Karl, who had chosen to specialize in support magic from the outset.

Moreover, his business was thriving.

Ever since the entrance ceremony, he had been promoting his products, and they sold well, with upperclassmen frequently purchasing Karl’s fatigue recovery potions.

“Potions surprisingly require a lot of effort, so many students find it more convenient to buy them.”

Karl gazed forlornly at his other merchandise.

“But I secured a position faster than I anticipated, so there aren’t too many complaints.”

Chelsea twirled her spaghetti, and Leo chimed in between bites of steak.

“Have you heard the rumor?”

“What rumor?”

“Senior students who went on a dungeon raid are returning.”

At that, Karl’s eyes gleamed.

“I heard! Three teams are coming back!”

The Hero Dungeon raiders, who were frequently away from school, were returning. This time, in particular, three teams had been on missions, leaving vacant seats among the school’s most formidable students.

A sense of longing permeated the first-year students who hadn’t yet crossed paths with the renowned figures of Lumeren.

“I heard they’re using the pages from the Hero Records they recovered this time as teaching materials in the upcoming Hero Studies class.”

“Really? Already delving into the world of heroes? I thought practical exams wouldn’t come until at least midterms.”

Karl was visibly excited.

“No, I heard some of the recovered pages were damaged. The class will focus on deducing the identities of the heroes mentioned in those pages.”

“Ah, that’s a bit disappointing.”

“Why? Having access to even the lost Hero Records is a significant opportunity.”

Chelsea spoke with a gleam in her eye, her hobby being the study of hero lore.

“Speaking of which, the period for club recruitment activities will start soon, right?”

Karl stroked his chin.

The first-year students were gradually adjusting to school life, and the time to consider joining clubs was approaching.

“Do you guys have any clubs in mind? I’m thinking of joining a business club.”

“I’m contemplating the music club. I’ve been learning it since childhood as part of my upbringing.”

“Wow, such refined interests. What about you, Leo?”

“I’m thinking of starting a club.”

“What?”

“You’re planning to start a club?”

“Yes.”

Upon hearing that their grade representative, Leo, had intentions of founding a club, Chelsea and Karl became intrigued.

“What kind of club are you thinking of?”

“A Heroes Study Group.”

“A Heroes Study Group? Sounds like an academic pursuit.”

Karl displayed a bit of skepticism.

“Typically, people join clubs to unwind from the demands of school life. Will students really be interested in an academically oriented club?”

Chelsea also expressed reservations.

“It’s not really academic. We’ll be researching forgotten heroes.”

When Leo offered a soft smile, Karl inquired,

“Like whom, for instance?”

“The Hero of the Beginning, Kyle.”

It was a subtle way for Leo to tout his own heroic exploits at Lumeren.

“Kyle? He’s not forgotten; he’s a fictional character. If it’s too trivial, it might not attract members.”

“It still sounds intriguing! Kyle may not be officially registered in the hero records and might be considered a fictional character, but he’s actually quite a famous hero. How could someone who’s not even a historical hero gain such popularity? Perhaps Kyle’s hero records have yet to be unearthed!”

Chelsea, a lover of hero tales, spoke with enthusiasm.

“Chelsea.”

“Yes?”

“You’re kind.”

For the first time, Leo encountered someone who held such a positive view of him, and he gently stroked Chelsea’s head.

Caught off guard by Leo’s sudden gesture, Chelsea was initially perplexed, but she soon leaned into his touch with a giggle.

Karl chuckled at the sight.

“Your ambition is quite grand. Kyle is undoubtedly a fictional hero. How about Dweno instead? A renowned blacksmith and advisor to the heroic party! He’s certainly more substantial than Kyle… Uh! Uh?! Cough?”

“Karl, you might choke if you eat only bread.”

“Uuuuuugh! Cough! (Who’s the one stuffing bread in my mouth?)”

“Huh? You want more?”

“Muuuuuuuuuuuu! (Noooooo!)”

Leo kindly inserted another piece of bread into his friend’s mouth.

***

Morning classes concluded, and it was time for lunch.

Students streamed out of the classrooms.

As Leo was tidying up his textbooks and preparing to leave,

“Leo.”

“Yes?”

Selia entered Class 5 and positioned herself in front of Leo.

“What’s up, Selia? Why are you visiting someone else’s class?”

Chelsea furrowed her brow and asked, and Selia responded matter-of-factly,

“I just need to speak with Leo. You don’t have lunch plans, do you?”

“Not really.”

“Then let’s have lunch together.”

“Why?”

“The student council president wants to meet with you.”

Class 11

Prev I TOC I Next

It was the fifth period in the afternoon when classes began. After getting ready for class, Sang-ho made his way to his classroom on the third floor.

As he approached the classroom, he was about to casually open the door when he suddenly hesitated. The fifth period was designated for outdoor activities, so the time just before class was when students changed into their outdoor attire.

His hand, which had been about to knock on the door, stopped as he overheard voices from inside.

“Tae-hwa, are you okay?”

Na-bit’s voice was filled with concern.

Tae-hwa responded briefly,

“I’m fine.”

“Then why were you late today?”

“I wasn’t feeling well.”

“Hmm…”

Na-bit attempted to smile and said,

“Well, let me help you then! Where does it hurt?”

“My condition can’t be healed by divine power.”

“Oh…”

Following Na-bit’s flustered response, Se-hee inquired,

“So, did you have an argument with the teacher?”

“I said I was sick.”

“You didn’t say a word to the teacher today.”

“When I’m unwell, I tend to stay quiet. Isn’t that obvious?”

“Strange. Usually, when you’re sick, you’re quite chatty with the teacher.”

Hearing Se-hee’s pointed remarks, Sang-ho blinked in surprise. He had always thought of Se-hee as a gentle kid.

‘Se-hee… she’s more assertive when I’m not around.’

A sigh from Tae-hwa was audible, followed by a weary reply.

“I got scolded for wearing a short skirt. I shortened it because of my tail, but I was told to make it longer.”

“Did the teacher get very upset?”

“Not exactly… but he told me not to speak to him until I lengthened my skirt. So, I told him I wouldn’t.”

“Are you acting childish?”

Tae-hwa flared up at Se-hee’s words.

“The teacher started it!”

“You must have acted like a child for him to say that.”

Seemingly hurt by that remark, Tae-hwa grumbled but didn’t directly respond. Se-hee continued,

“Just endure a bit of discomfort, okay? You don’t want the teacher to scold you, do you?”

“It’s more than just a bit of discomfort!”

“So, you’d rather remain uncomfortable with the teacher?”

“Mind your own business. Are you my…”

The next words shouldn’t have been said. Sang-ho’s heart raced.

For a moment, Tae-hwa seemed to hesitate, but eventually blurted out,

“Are you my parent? Why do you care?”

“Pa…”

Parent. Se-hee attempted to say the word but choked on it.

“Are you implying… because I don’t have parents…”

“What? What about it?”

“You’re mocking me for not having parents?”

Tae-hwa shouted back,

“I don’t have parents either, you jerk! Do you think you’re the only one?”

A heavy silence enveloped the room.

In the quiet classroom, Na-bit’s soft voice whimpered,

“Please, stop fighting…”

Before things could escalate any further, Sang-ho rapped on the door.

Knock knock

He heard gasps from the students inside.

“I’m coming in.”

Sang-ho declared and waited a moment before entering. Se-hee and Tae-hwa were facing each other with Na-bit in between, looking worried.

Sang-ho turned his gaze from Se-hee to Tae-hwa. He couldn’t immediately decide how to handle the situation.

‘What’s the best course of action here?’

However, as he contemplated, Tae-hwa choked up and,

“…sob!”

With a puff of smoke, she vanished.

Sang-ho shut his eyes tightly.

‘Tae-hwa… my leg is killing me.’

“You two stay here. I’ll go find Tae-hwa.”

Without waiting for a response, he hurriedly limped away. He had a specific place in mind where Tae-hwa might have gone.

Se-hee and Na-bit watched his retreating figure with uneasy expressions.

***

As he made his way toward the student dormitory, Sang-ho tried calling Tae-hwa several times, but as expected, she didn’t answer.

He sighed and looked up at the dormitory building.

The student dormitory comprised three buildings: freshmen stayed in ‘Ihwagwan’, sophomores in ‘Baekhapgwan’, and juniors in ‘Moklyeongwan’. Each entrance had a flower emblem.

Tae-hwa resided in ‘Ihwagwan’, with a pear blossom emblem.

‘Tae-hwa’s room was… 509, right? On the 5th floor…’

Entering Ihwagwan, he was relieved to find it deserted.

Climbing up to the 5th floor left him sweating, despite his better-than-average fitness. The pain in his leg was intense.

Stepping onto the final step, he took a deep breath.

‘Becoming a teacher means a lot of sighing.’

“For the past few days, it felt like I had sighed a lifetime’s worth.”

With a limp, he walked down the hallway, finally reaching room 509 and standing before it.

“Tae-hwa.”

He called and knocked, but received no response.

Doubting his memory, Sang-ho took out his phone to check his notes. 509 was indeed the correct room.

If she’s not here…

The amount of sweat dripping down Sang-ho’s back increased. How much longer would he have to search?

“Tae-hwa, I’ll be waiting here.”

Then, there was a click from the doorknob.

He waited for Tae-hwa to come out, but no matter how long he waited, the door remained closed. However, when he tried the doorknob, it turned and the door swung open.

Carefully scanning the area in case someone saw him, he didn’t want any misunderstandings arising from a male teacher entering a female student’s room.

After double-checking, he cautiously inquired towards the interior,

“May I come in?”

It wasn’t a spacious room. Upon opening the door, he immediately noticed the bed.

Someone was hidden under the blankets.

A tail protruding from the blanket hung listlessly.

‘…It seems longer.’

He removed his shoes and entered. Due to the warmth inside, he also took off his jacket.

“May I wash my face?”

From beneath the blanket, there was a muffled sound, likely meaning ‘Don’t use the bathroom.’

He took off his glasses, rolled up his sleeves, and headed to the bathroom.

“I apologize; I’ll be tidy.”

Inside, a floral fragrance wafted through the air. The soap he picked up had a different scent compared to his usual one—fresh and invigorating.

After a quick wash, he exited with a towel draped around his neck.

The mound under the blanket remained still.

He sat down by Tae-hwa’s bed.

“…You can sit on the bed.”

Tae-hwa muttered.

Considering his leg, sitting on the floor was uncomfortable. He rose and settled down beside her.

“Tae-hwa.”

“Yes?”

“I got reprimanded by the principal.”

“Why?”

“Because of your short skirt. She even knew your name. She scolded me, asking if I’m properly supervising the students, whether I’m attentive or not…”

Sang-ho let out a deep sigh.

“Really?”

Tae-hwa asked in a feeble voice, to which Sang-ho gave a wry smile,

“Just kidding.”

“Ugh!”

Her tail slapped his back.

“Don’t tease me!”

“It’s not the principal, but the issue isn’t that… Tae-hwa.”

He placed a hand on the blanket covering her.

“Lashing out in anger… it’s not cool. Especially targeting someone’s insecurities, something they can’t change… it eventually reflects back on you.”

“The… the comment about parents. Why? It’s a sensitive topic for me too…”

“Se-hee didn’t know. She thought you grew up in a normal household.”

He hadn’t told Se-hee about Tae-hwa’s father.

“You knew her situation, right?”

“Why should I care about what she knows and doesn’t? Why?”

“You took the first shot.”

“She’s always so snippy!”

“I heard everything from the start. You were the first to get irritated with Na-bit, weren’t you?”

“…Uh.”

Speechless, Tae-hwa hid deeper under her blanket.

He grabbed her tail. It tried to escape his grip, but he held it firmly.

“Being angry makes you see things in a distorted way. Both Na-bit and Se-hee were just worried about you. So get along.”

“I don’t get along with her.”

Given Tae-hwa’s comment, he grimaced.

One child hurt by the absence of parents.

The other hurt by the presence of parents.

Their personalities and situations were polar opposites.

“Whether you two become close is up to you… but you should at least apologize.”

“Why? Was it only my fault?”

“The person who apologizes first is the cool one. And you’re cool, right?”

At that, her tail flailed about.

“Do you think I’m a little kid?”

“You’re trying to be cool by shortening your skirt.”

“That’s genuinely because of my tail──!”

Sang-ho chuckled and gently touched the tip of her tail, the broad heart-shaped end.

“Tae-hwa, a truly cool person…”

“…Eek!”

“Ah, sorry. Did it hurt?”

He quickly removed his hand from her tail.

However, the tail snaked back around his hand like a serpent.

“No… I’m fine.”

“Okay…”

He continued, massaging her tail gently.

“True coolness is about elevating your own value. The shorter you make the skirt, the cheaper it looks. You aren’t a cheap person.”

“I’m not expensive either.”

“To me, you look very valuable. Only if you don’t shorten the skirt.”

“…How valuable do I look?”

“Of course, beyond what money can buy.”

Tae-hwa peeked her head out from under the blanket.

Her eyes were red and puffy, and her cheeks were flushed. She stared steadily at Sang-ho with trembling red eyes.

In that moment, Sang-ho thought she resembled Se-hee.

The feeling of never being cherished by anyone.

He reached out and brushed her tousled hair behind her ear.

“You’ll lengthen your skirt?”

“…Yes.”

“You’ll apologize to Se-hee?”

“Yes.”

“Good, that’s thoughtful.”

Sang-ho gently stroked her tail.

Suddenly, Tae-hwa flinched.

“Ah…”

A soft moan escaped her slightly parted lips, her face flushed all the way down to her neck.

Only then did Sang-ho realize that Tae-hwa’s reaction wasn’t because of his words, but because of her tail.

“Does it hurt when I touch your tail? You should’ve said.”

“It’s not that it hurts…”

Tae-hwa hid back under the blanket.

“You don’t need to know.”

If it wasn’t pain, what was it? Sang-ho blinked in confusion, then stood up.

“If you’re feeling better, let’s go back to class. The kids are waiting.”

“Give me the towel.”

Tae-hwa, now out of the blanket, pointed at the towel hanging around his neck.

As Sang-ho put on his coat, he replied,

“I’ll wash it and return it.”

“Just give it to me now!”

Tae-hwa insisted, grabbing the towel. Sang-ho was perplexed.

‘I said I’d wash it, why…’

It was puzzling.

Throwing the wet towel haphazardly onto the bed, Tae-hwa ushered Sang-ho out.

“Go.”

“If you leave a wet towel like that, it’ll get moldy. There’s a laundry basket here. You should properly…”

“Don’t fuss, just go!”

“Alright, alright.”

Sang-ho shook his head as he exited the room with Tae-hwa. He sneakily glanced at her.

Her heart-shaped tail was now enthusiastically wagging.

‘Seems like her mood improved.’

Truly an enigma.

***

“Alright.”

Back on the third floor of the main building, Sang-ho looked down at Tae-hwa beside him.

“I’ll stop by the staff room. You go ahead to the classroom.”

“Yes.”

“And make sure you apologize to Se-hee.”

“…Yes.”

Tae-hwa awkwardly nodded.

Sang-ho watched Tae-hwa walking towards the classroom, then headed to the stairs. He intentionally walked slowly, waiting until Tae-hwa entered the classroom.

Upon hearing the classroom door closing, he quickly turned and quietly approached the classroom.

Inside, he heard Tae-hwa’s voice.

“Hey, Chun Se-hee.”

“What?”

“Come out.”

What was that all about? Shocked, Sang-ho stomped the floor with his perfectly fine right leg.

Then, using an air-walking technique, he clung to the ceiling. While he held his breath and gripped his sword, the door opened, and Tae-hwa and Se-hee came out.

The atmosphere was extremely tense.

‘Please, please, please don’t fight, Tae-hwa…’

Sang-ho closed his eyes and prayed.

When he reopened them, Tae-hwa, leaning against the wall, was glaring at Se-hee, looking like she might slap her and grab her hair any second.

Sang-ho was ready to step in if things escalated.

“I’m sorry.”

Tae-hwa abruptly said.

“I thought you knew I grew up without parents. That’s why I brought it up. I wasn’t mocking you, so don’t misunderstand.”

Sang-ho sighed in relief.

Se-hee, who had been listening with her arms crossed, stepped towards Tae-hwa.

“If that’s the case, I understand. I’m sorry for misunderstanding too. But…”

Se-hee moved close enough that their foreheads almost touched, and whispered in Tae-hwa’s face.

“Don’t disrupt the teacher’s lesson.”

An intense aura emanated from Se-hee.

“Every single minute of the lesson is precious to me.”

Hearing this, Tae-hwa laughed in disbelief.

“That important?”

“Of course. I told the teacher I aim to be the top student.”

Their eyes locked.

“So don’t interfere.”

“Fine, but you know…”

Tae-hwa leaned in with a cheeky smile.

“You smell good.”

“…Eek!”

Startled, Se-hee covered her mouth and stepped back.

“You! You didn’t even listen…”

“I did, dummy. Fine, I promise not to interrupt, dummy.”

Teasingly, Tae-hwa stuck out her tongue and returned to the classroom.

Se-hee stood still for a moment.

“Sigh…”

She took a deep breath and went back inside.

Sang-ho descended from the ceiling, sweat on his brow.

‘Did I underestimate the challenges of teaching…’

Grateful that Tae-hwa’s apology went smoothly, he entered the classroom to begin the lesson.

***

The next day, during school hours.

On his way to the classroom, Sang-ho encountered Tae-hwa in the corridor.

“Oh, Tae-hwa.”

His gaze went to her skirt, noticing a subtle difference.

“…Haven’t you lengthened it yet? You’ll do it by tomorrow, right?”

“I did lengthen it!”

Tae-hwa looked upset.

“I lengthened it by a whole centimeter! How can you not notice? Hmph!”

“A centimeter is a significant length?”

Sang-ho skeptically eyed her skirt, which ended just slightly above mid-thigh.

“Can you lengthen it a bit more?”

“Hmm… then every morning, check if I’ve lengthened it or not.”

“Huh?”

Tae-hwa laughed at the perplexed Sang-ho.

“That means you’ll always be looking at my legs, right?”

She playfully lifted the edge of her skirt slightly and slipped into the classroom.

Sang-ho stared after her and heaved a deep sigh.

‘Well, at least she lengthened it…’

He trudged towards the classroom.

Legend 28

Prev I TOC I Next

Duran’s lightning-charged ball streaked toward the goalpost.

“Wind Shield!”

Chelsea quickly invoked a defensive spell in that critical moment.

A potent gust of wind surged from Class 5’s goalpost.

The ball, originally hurtling at incredible speed, momentarily slowed down.

Yet, its momentum remained formidable.

It merely snagged the ball for a brief instant.

Due to the lightning aura enveloping the ball, it couldn’t be hastily grabbed.

Even if seized, it would undoubtedly pierce through Chelsea’s defensive magic, sailing into the goal before any other student could intervene.

“What a futile effort!” Duran jeered, while Leo shouted,

“Karl! Prepare for what I told you!”

“Ah! If only I weren’t cleaning the bathroom!”

Karl harnessed his mana.

Karl was an earth-elemental mage.

Earth attributes excelled in defense and weight manipulation!

A faint brown magical aura radiated from Karl’s form.

Utilizing defensive magic to shield his body and gravity manipulation to decrease his weight, Leo grabbed Karl’s hand and propelled him toward the goalpost.

He intended to physically block it.

Boom! Whoosh-!

Karl’s body hurtled toward the goalpost.

Thud-! Squeeeeak-!

Simultaneously, the ball managed to penetrate Chelsea’s defensive magic.

Thanks to Leo’s momentum, Karl reached the goalpost ahead of the ball, now lightened by magic.

“It’s futile! The ball will enter the goalpost with you!” Duran mocked.

However, just before the ball collided with him, Karl increased his body weight to the maximum using magic.

Additionally, Chelsea hastily cast a protective spell on Karl.

Thump-!

“Ugh!”

Smack-!

Only Karl, who had been struck by the ball, entered the goal, and the ball rebounded.

If the ball is caught before hitting the ground, the attacking team retains possession; if not, the attacking team loses the right to continue.

Tap-! Rollrollroll.

The ball skidded across the ground.

Beep-!

“The attacking right goes to Class 5!”

“Great job, Karl!”

“We won’t forget your sacrifice for the class!”

Class 5 erupted in cheers, having narrowly defended their goal thanks to the combined efforts of Leo, Chelsea, and Karl.

Karl smiled with a hint of sadness, recalling his sacrifice and not the concern of his friends.

“I’m sorry, Karl.”

“It’s alright.”

“It’s just you two, Leo and Chelsea.”

Karl felt moved as Leo and Chelsea approached with apologetic smiles.

“That was impressive. What kind of strategy was that?”

Nella, who approached for treatment, asked Chelsea with a languid tone, and Chelsea replied with a wide smile.

“The operation name is ‘Friend Shield’! It’s a defense strategy predicted and devised by Leo oppa for situations like this!”

“To use friends as tools for victory. What a splendid judgment.”

Karl felt like crying.

Meanwhile, Iliana, who held the ball, swung her arms in a circular motion.

“Alright! Alright! Let’s aim for an additional score…!”

Swish!

A whip-like object extended from Class 1, snatching the ball from Iliana’s hand.

“Ohhhhh! Howl!”

“So sexy!”

“The successor of Snake Spear, as expected!”

In an instant, the morale of Class 1, who regained the attacking rights, skyrocketed.

Iliana, who alternately stared at her own hands and the ball taken by Class 1, lowered her head and raised both hands apologetically to Karl.

“Sorry, it got snatched away.”

“Return my sacrificeeeeeee!”

***

“Oh ho! What brings you to the training ground at this hour, Senior Ain!”

“What else could it be? I came to observe the combat training class.”

Ain and Ren met in front of the training ground.

“Hehe! I see. Well, currently, Selia, Duran, and Chen Shia are in the middle of the class! As a professor specializing in knight studies, you want to see how proficient the aces of the knight studies are in combat!”

“I came to observe all knight studies students, Ren. It’s not like I came here to openly watch someone like you.”

“I also came to survey all magic studies students.”

Professor Ren shrugged his shoulders.

The relationship between the two was not just that of fellow teachers.

Both were Lumeren graduates who had known each other since their school days.

Their relationship hadn’t been particularly close; instead, they shared a kind of ‘ill-fated’ connection as students from different departments.

The addition of Professor Yura of the Summoning department to this mix resulted in what was commonly referred to among professors and current students as a perfect “explosive combination.”

“When I heard you were taking the first-year class, I was genuinely surprised.”

“It’s indeed the first time both of us are responsible for lower-year students.”

“Come to think of it, Senior Ain, you were Professor Sedgen’s first batch student, right? How was he back then?”

“He was exactly the same as he is now. He cared deeply for the students in his class. Professor Hallind, on the other hand, has changed a lot since those days.”

“By the time I reached my fifth year, he was already known as the ‘Wall of Lamentation.'”

The two professors entered the stadium, lost in their memories of their school days.

And they were taken aback.

“Bastelaro? Right from the first class?”

“Quite unconventional.”

The two professors brightened up when they realized that both Class 1 and Class 5 were playing Bastelaro.

“The score is 1-0, Class 5 is in the lead.”

An unexpected outcome.

Class 1 had all their star players on the field.

It wasn’t planned, but Class 1 was an elite group, filled with students who had scored highly on their entrance exams.

It was a match between the top and bottom-ranked classes.

Although a few months later, entrance exam scores would lose their significance, the gap was evident now.

“Leo and Chelsea. Iliana and Tade. And Nella… These could be Class 5’s star players, but not the rest of the team.”

Ain observed with interest.

“Impressive.”

Ren, who had been watching the game, exclaimed.

“Student Leo is clearly a natural leader.”

“I sensed that from the very beginning, at the entrance ceremony.”

Class 1 was dominating Class 5 by relying on their individual skills.

In contrast, Class 5 prioritized teamwork.

At the center of it all was Leo.

He predicted the opponent’s movements moment by moment and occasionally used quick thinking to counter Class 1’s attacks.

Ren wore a regretful expression.

‘He’s only using aura!’

It would have been great if he could use magic too, but Leo was sticking to aura.

Of course, he had no other choice.

While Leo excelled in interpreting spells, his mana pool was limited.

So, his primary combat ability had to be aura.

Ren looked at Ain with a concerned expression.

As expected, Ain was also observing Leo.

But unlike the anxious Ren, Ain appeared quite satisfied watching the match.

Ren felt frustrated and thought to himself,

‘Student Leo! Please use magic too~!’

Ren looked at Leo with eager anticipation.

Meanwhile, the match had entered its latter half.

Bastelaro required the use of all abilities, which meant that stamina consumption was immense.

Originally, matches lasted an hour, but for first-years, twenty minutes was the limit due to their stamina.

Then, Selia’s impressive attack shook the net of Class 5.

“Selia! You’re incredible! I’m falling for you!”

“Big sis! Please adopt me as your little sister!”

The Class 1 students cheered.

Selia had scored by breaking through the defense of three Class 5 students guarding the goal.

“Is she… a beast…?”

Karl, who had taken a direct hit from the ball, muttered in exhaustion before collapsing and fainting.

“Heave-ho! Heave-ho!”

Selia too, found herself completely drained after exerting all her strength.

“We’ve managed to bring down three players, and there’s little time left! If we can block this attack, we can counterattack and win! We need to make a comeback!”

Selia shouted with great effort.

Class 5, which had maintained a narrow lead, suddenly lost their advantage, and the atmosphere turned grim.

On the other hand, Class 1’s morale was soaring.

Chloe, positioned at the back, glared at Class 5.

Undoubtedly, the most outstanding performance in this game came from Chloe.

While she had allowed an initial surprise score, Chloe’s defense had been flawless afterward, effectively shutting down Leo and Chelsea, the linchpins of Class 5’s offense.

Despite their various attempts to breach the defense, Chloe remained an impenetrable barrier.

Observing Leo as he prepared to attack, Chloe made a silent vow: ‘I will not be defeated.’

After their first magic class, Chloe couldn’t help but take notice of Leo.

She had never considered herself inferior to anyone in magic.

She believed that her skills in interpreting magical formulas surpassed even Abad, who was regarded as the most formidable wizard among her peers.

In fact, she was correct.

A prodigy in spellcraft, she had been recognized as one of the all-time greats at the Northern Magic Tower.

That was Chloe Muller.

Yet, from the very first class, she found herself falling behind in magical interpretation when it came to Leo.

‘I absolutely cannot allow myself to lose to Leo Plov.’

Chloe clenched her fist, a determination burning in her eyes.

With Selia absent, Class 1’s defense had a gaping hole.

“Attack! If we don’t score this time, we’ll surely lose!” Iliana shouted.

Chelsea intercepted Duran, who was rushing to mark Leo.

Other players tried their best to create a one-on-one situation between Leo and Chloe.

With agility and finesse, Leo weaved his way through Class 1’s formation, closing in on the goal.

Without Selia the restraining force, and with Chelsea immobilizing Duran, it was almost impossible for anyone to stop Leo at this point.

However, Class 1 had their own source of belief.

Chloe positioned herself in front of Leo.

“You won’t get past me.”

“Sorry, but in a one-on-one situation, I think I could,” Leo replied.

At Leo’s words, Chloe smirked.

Zzzap!

Leo’s eyes twitched.

Suddenly, ice formed in the air, and ice fragments materialized.

Four ice pieces, mirroring Chloe perfectly, blocked Leo’s path as if they were living statues.

“Impossible! Ice clones? Using such advanced spellcraft? Even my brother can’t do that!” Chelsea exclaimed in astonishment.

“It’s not just a mere clone!”

Magic circles expanded around the ice clones.

Each of them was akin to a skilled wizard.

“To use such a spell at this age? You’re a genius,” Leo praised.

Chloe’s eyes twitched.

“Are you mocking me now?”

‘He even aced the magic theory test!’

Chloe sneered at Leo with a determined gaze.

“You’ll never break through my defense! So just give up!” Chloe asserted.

“True, I can’t breach this with my aura ability,” Leo responded with a grin.

“With my aura ability, though.”

Whoosh!

‘Magic?’

Chloe was taken aback.

She hadn’t anticipated that he would employ magic in this critical moment.

Leo’s form multiplied.

‘Illusion magic? How basic!’

Though caught off guard, Chloe knew she could easily counter simple illusion magic.

While using magic to attack other players was against the rules, targeting magical illusions was allowed.

‘Which one is the real Leo?’

Distinguishing the genuine Leo among the basic illusions seemed like a straightforward task for Chloe.

She concentrated her mana on her eyes, scrutinizing the illusions.

In that instant, Chloe’s expression stiffened.

‘I can’t discern which one is the real Leo!’

Not knowing which was real made her hesitant to launch an attack hastily.

But there was an even more astounding revelation.

‘This magic…!’

As Chloe was in shock, Leo swiftly scored a goal.

So astonished that she forgot to respond, Chloe slumped to the ground.

Leo had executed a flawless illusion magic that rendered it impossible to identify the real one.

The magic he had just employed was something Chloe was familiar with.

However, she couldn’t employ it herself.

Because what Leo had used wasn’t conventional human magic.

Chloe gazed vacantly behind her.

As the illusion dissipated, leaves fluttered through the air.

A magic system that was fundamentally distinct.

‘Elf’s… Star magic?’

Mirage.

The magic Leo had employed was a creation of the ancestor of constellations, Luna.

The 5th and 1st classes, each divided into two groups, sat in a circular formation, with their respective professors at the center.

“Is there anyone who would like to participate?”

“I’d like to suggest Leo and Chelsea!”

As Karl raised his hand and spoke, the students nodded in agreement.

Leo not only held the position of grade representative but had also left a strong impression during the temporary class period, firmly establishing himself as a talented individual in the minds of his peers.

As for Chelsea, her credentials spoke for themselves; she hailed from a renowned family of heroes and had achieved the highest score on the 5th class entrance exam.

“Leo Plov, Chelsea Lewalin. Any objections?”

“None from me.”

“Me neither.”

“Very well. Karl Thomas, who made the recommendation, you will join as well.”

“What? Shouldn’t someone else participate instead of me…”

“You do not have the option to decline.”

“Yes!”

With reluctance, Karl agreed to participate.

“Who’s next?”

“I’ll go!”

“I want to be a part of it too!”

Iliana and Tade enthusiastically raised their hands.

“Iliana Raden, Tade Marcoa. Four more to complete the team.”

“I’ll participate.”

“Nella Kavin.”

As Nella spoke in a relaxed tone, the male students eagerly volunteered. The inclusion of Nella, one of the most beautiful girls in the class, served as motivation for them.

Thus, eight participants stepped forward.

“It appears that the 5th class has finalized its team members as well!”

Professor Sedgen extended his arms.

Wooong-!

Light emanated in the arena, and rectangular lines were drawn. Simultaneously, goals made from mana lines materialized at the corners of the square.

The players from both teams assembled in the center.

“The match will last for 20 minutes. While victory is important, sportsmanship is paramount. I will grant you a moment for a strategy meeting.”

Professor Sedgen, who provided them with this brief respite, moved to the referee’s seat.

“You’ve ventured forth?”

“We’ll defeat you soundly.”

Selia and Chloe fixed menacing smiles on Karl, who cowered behind Chelsea in fear.

After exchanging greetings, the players from both sides gathered at the center.

Upon Chelsea’s recommendation, Leo was selected as the captain.

“Setting aside the team leaders, what about the other students in the 1st class?”

“They all come from prestigious families.”

“They’re determined to win.”

“Wasn’t the 1st class the one with the highest average scores?”

Amidst the planning, Leo, clad in a blue vest, inquired.

“But doesn’t the Knight Academy have a clear advantage in physical prowess?”

“What are you talking about, Leo? Just because it’s the Knight Academy doesn’t guarantee a clear advantage. The performance of the Magic and Summoning departments is also crucial!”

Tade responded.

“Why?”

“Why, you ask? Well…”

Tade hesitated, as if remembering something.

“Leo, have you ever played Bastelaro?”

“No, I haven’t.”

“You’re from the Delard Kingdom, right?”

“Yes.”

“Ah, I see. Delard is a remote kingdom, so you might not be familiar with it.”

Tade covered his face.

“In Bastelaro, the team that scores the most goals within a limited time wins. However.”

“However?”

“The time for the strategy meeting is over. Each team’s captain, step forward! We’ll decide who goes first.”

Leo emerged as the representative.

Class 1’s representative was Duran.

Sedgen, holding a coin, asked Leo,

“Which do you choose, heads or tails?”

“Heads.”

Glancing at Duran, Sedgen nodded nonchalantly.

Ding-!

The coin spun and landed on the back of Sedgen’s hand.

“Tails. Class 1 will go first.”

Duran, receiving a transparent ball, flashed a fierce grin.

“I’ll definitely crush you this time.”

Leo shrugged off Duran’s taunt.

Watching this, Duran returned to his side and handed the ball to Selia.

“Finish the explanation.”

At Leo’s request, Tade spoke with a tense expression.

“No time for explanations! Experience it firsthand! Here it comes!”

“Huh?”

Whoosh-!

The transparent ball turned red and burst into flames.

“Here it goes!”

Selia hurled the ball with all her strength.

Flash-!

The ball followed a straight path, hurtling at incredible speed toward Leo.

Leo hastily dodged it.

Thump-!

“Ouch?”

The male student behind Leo took a hit to the side and was sent flying, screaming.

Thud! Roll-roll-roll!

Selia pushed her disheveled hair back and exchanged high fives with her teammates.

Seeing his friend writhing on the ground, Leo asked with a serious expression.

“…Is it not dangerous?”

“We’re protected by the protective gear… but it hurts a lot.”

Karl replied with a strained voice.

Tade swallowed hard.

“This is Bastelaro! If you hit the opponent with the ball, you gain the offensive advantage! If you get hit and can’t move, you’re out! It’s a perilous sport where a strong thrower could even risk someone’s life!”

Only now did Leo grasp why the students were so tense.

Scoring was one way to win, but defeating all opponents was also a victory.

***

“Outstanding! Formidable! Graceful! As expected from the Zerdingher lineage!”

Sedgen applauded enthusiastically.

“Hallind! Your class doesn’t stand a chance against ours!”

“The game is still in its early stages, isn’t it?”

“Hehe, true! But with Selia on our side, we have an absolute advantage! You must understand how specialized the Zerdingher family is in Bastelaro!”

“…”

In response to Sedgen’s words, a Class 1 student raised a hand and inquired,

“Why does the Zerdingher family have an advantage in Bastelaro?”

“Excellent question! The most effective attribute in Bastelaro is the high-destructive fire attribute! And among humans, the fire wielded by the Zerdingher family is considered the most potent!”

He pointed proudly at Hallind.

“Your senior, who has become a legend at Lumerun Academy! One of my first disciples and a friend of ours! Even the Bastelaro Empress hailed from the Zerdingher lineage!”

Senna, who had been listening, chuckled.

“We also have a student skilled in controlling the aura of fire.”

Hallind looked at Leo, who was holding the ball.

Fire emanated from the ball Leo held.

***

“So, it contains mana without an attribute?”

Leo assessed the ball’s nature and lightly rolled it on his palm, surrounded by the aura of fire.

Class 1 students watched Leo with anxious expressions.

“Karl.”

“Hmm?”

“Is it permissible to attack or restrain using abilities?”

“No, you can only mark to block someone, and the attack must be made exclusively with the ball.”

“So, the ball is the sole means of offense. Whoever possesses the ball has a clear advantage.”

“Is that clear?”

As Leo gathered information, Nella was the first to approach a downed male classmate and projected her aura.

A white light burst forth, visibly easing the male student’s expression.

“Oh? A healing attribute aura? That’s a rare attribute.”

There were various attributes to the aura.

Typically, they enhanced attacks, but as in Nella’s case, some could heal wounds.

“Leo, if you hold the ball too long, it’s considered a foul, and the offensive possession will be lost.”

“Understood. One more thing, can you kick the ball instead of using your hands?”

“It’s allowed, but won’t that reduce your accuracy?”

“It doesn’t matter.”

Leo tossed the ball into the air and delivered a powerful kick.

Bang-!

The aura at the tip of Leo’s foot exploded, adding to the ball’s momentum.

The ball rocketed towards Team 1’s goal even faster than when Selia threw it, driven by Leo’s instantaneous firepower and tremendous physical abilities.

“Defend it!”

Selia urgently shouted.

Zzzzap-!

Magical energy surged from Chloe’s body, forming a thick ice wall in front of the goal.

Crash-! Snap-!

The ball penetrated deeply into the sturdy ice barrier.

“As long as I’m here, scoring a goal is impossi—”

“Possible?”

Leo, who had stormed into Team 1’s territory, flashed a grin at Chloe and sprinted toward the goal.

The students of Team 1 were in disarray.

“What’s happening…!”

Meanwhile, Leo leaped toward the ice wall.

“Ah!”

Crack-!

He executed a mid-air kick at the ball embedded in the ice wall.

Zzzzap-! Smash-!

The ice barrier shattered, and the ball found its way into Team 1’s goal.

Whistle-!

“Team 5… scores the first point,” Professor Sedgen announced, his voice tense.

“He’s truly the grade representative!”

“His reflexes are incredible!”

Cheers erupted from Team 5.

“So, they’re not to be underestimated.”

“Oh, I let my guard down.”

“This guy!”

Selia, Chloe, and Duran glared at Leo with disgruntled expressions.

“Well done! The first point is crucial!”

Karl gave a thumbs-up in approval.

“Excellent! Let’s maintain our defense against Team 1’s offense and take control of the game!”

Iliana, the enthusiastic spirit of the team, raised her hand and cheered.

“Ooh!”

Team 5’s morale soared.

“It might have seemed like a reckless attack, but he employed quick thinking to score!”

Senna exclaimed in admiration, while Hallind nodded thoughtfully.

“No, that’s strategic thinking.”

“Huh?”

‘According to Ain, Leo took on a leadership role even on the day of the entrance ceremony. He must have analyzed Chloe Muller’s strengths in advance.’

Chloe excelled in ice magic and was the fastest spellcaster in her class, making her the ideal player for defending Team 1’s goal.

Leo had anticipated this and exploited the vulnerability.

‘He’s a strategist beyond his years.’

Hallind stroked his chin, his eyes gleaming.

Meanwhile, Team 1 launched a counterattack.

Duran, holding the ball, charged into Team 5’s territory.

Fzzzzt-!

Golden aura sparks crackled around him.

Swoosh-!

As he sprinted, Chelsea quickly caught up.

Both possessed lightning and wind attributes, known for their speed.

“Where do you think you’re going!”

“Tsk!”

Annoyed by Chelsea’s persistent pursuit, Duran passed the ball to Selia, who was trailing behind him.

“Ah!”

Chelsea was taken aback.

‘He may not be skilled, but his passing accuracy is on point.’

Selia, receiving Duran’s pass, made a beeline for Team 5’s goal.

Even though students attempted to block her path, Selia effortlessly evaded them.

Leo stepped in front of Selia.

“Hello.”

“I knew you’d come.”

Selia smiled.

“But what can you do? Luck isn’t on your side.”

Fzzzzt-!

“His speed is actually quite impressive, you know?”

“That’s quite a statement coming from you, Selia Zerdingher, all about brute force.”

Suddenly, Duran leaped over Selia’s head, pushing Chelsea aside.

No matter how swift Chelsea was, she had no chance in a jumping contest against Duran.

Selia and Duran exchanged glares, revealing their strained relationship.

However, they were determined not to let personal feelings jeopardize their quest for victory.

Swoosh-!

Selia passed the ball to Duran.

Leo made no effort to intercept it.

‘What’s this? Has he given up?’

Selia looked puzzled at Leo, noticing his lack of resistance to the pass.

Then, after a closer look at Leo’s expression, she sensed something was amiss.

“Duran, wait…”

But by the time Selia’s words reached him, Duran had already released the ball.

Fzzzzt!

“This evens the score!”

The male students, having changed into their gym uniforms, proceeded toward the training grounds.

Aside from Class 5, there were other classes spread across the expansive training area.

All the classes with overlapping Combat Studies courses were present on the training grounds.

Thanks to the vast expanse of the training area, there was no overlap in activity zones.

Professor Senna stood before the students, who were gathered on the dusty ground.

Hallind observed Senna’s class from the rear.

“In Combat Studies, we aim to train you in the application of your abilities. Any questions from the students?”

Iliana raised her hand.

“Yes, Iliana.”

“What exactly do you mean by ‘ability application training’? Is it different from what we do in our major subjects?”

“It is indeed different. Let’s take magic as an example, shall we? Iliana, please conjure a fireball.”

Iliana, aspiring to be a dual-class mage-swordsman, effortlessly created a fireball the size of her fist.

“Excellent! How will you apply this fireball to maximize its effectiveness, Iliana?”

“Um! First, I’ll infuse more mana into the spell formula. Then, I’ll incorporate damage enhancement and spell duplication!”

Whoosh! Whoosh!

The fireball expanded in size and then replicated itself.

“This way, I can optimize the fireball’s efficiency!”

“Is that all?”

“Huh? Uh… so, which spell should I add next…”

As Iliana looked puzzled, Professor Senna offered a warm smile.

“Don’t worry. Next is Chelsea?”

“Yes, Professor.”

“What other methods can you think of to further enhance the fireball’s efficiency?”

“I’m sorry, I can’t think of anything else beyond what Iliana mentioned.”

“Alright then, next is…”

The students majoring in magic awkwardly avoided making eye contact.

How could they know what even the top magic student in the class couldn’t answer?

“Leo?”

“Yes.”

“What is the key to maximizing the efficiency of the fireball?”

“It’s control. Even if the power is increased, it must hit the target to be efficient.”

“Correct! 5 points for Leo.”

The students appeared disappointed with the straightforward response.

“Many of you tend to prioritize increasing power over control in your ability training. That’s why most students struggle with ability control.”

The students appeared perplexed by the idea of being deficient in control.

They used their abilities daily, so how could they struggle with control?

“Here’s a challenge,” Professor Senna announced, conjuring a wind spirit named Sylph.

“If anyone among you can capture this Sylph, you’ll earn extra points. You may utilize all your abilities.”

Eagerly, students attempted to capture the Sylph. However, no one could catch it. It neither unleashed strong winds nor moved at a remarkable speed. It simply eluded their attempts with its agile evasive maneuvers.

Some students attempted to surround it, but their efforts were in vain.

“Ugh! That might not even be a Sylph!” Karl exclaimed, lying flat on the ground and gasping for air.

“What else could it be then?”

“How should I know?!”

Just then, the floating Sylph placed its hand on its waist and cleared its throat.

Whoosh!

A flame aura surged.

Leo, who had been standing still, charged at the Sylph.

The Sylph tried to leisurely escape, but Leo increased his speed, closed the distance, and reached out his hand.

The Sylph swiftly dodged.

Flames surged from the back of Leo’s hand and blocked the Sylph’s path.

The Sylph seemed to have anticipated this and turned in mid-air.

However, the wall-shaped aura quickly transformed into a rope that followed the Sylph.

The Sylph, taken aback by this unexpected turn, looked puzzled.

Then, it suddenly accelerated, soaring high into the sky in an attempt to evade the flame rope.

“Hey, Sylph! That’s cheating!” Senna exclaimed.

In response to Senna’s words, the Sylph appeared apologetic, evidently having expended more power than allowed in its surprise.

“Regardless, well done, Leo,” Senna commended, clapping her hands. “As you’ve just witnessed, student Leo didn’t exert excessive force. Combat Studies involves training to apply such tactics in real combat scenarios.”

The students of Class 5 now grasped Senna’s point about the importance of control.

Professor Hallind, observing the class from behind, chuckled softly.

“Indeed, Ain must be envious of this.”

If only aura control abilities were considered, he was expected to be the top among the first-years.

“Heh heh, not very graceful.”

Sizzle-!

With a spark, a golden aura flashed and enveloped the Sylph.

Thud-!

The Sylph was captured in one hand before it could react.

Thump-!

Duran, a male student who had landed on the floor, glared at Leo.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

“Excellent, student Duran! Truly the skills befitting a top student!”

“You flatter me,” Duran replied to the middle-aged teacher.

“Oh? That’s peculiar. In Hallind’s class, nobody has managed to catch a Sylph, yet a student from our Class 1 effortlessly did so.”

Hallind cast a weary glance at the flamboyantly dressed middle-aged teacher.

“Ah! I see that Class 5 is the lowest-performing class, isn’t it? Oops, my apologies. I shouldn’t have said that.”

“Aren’t you here to teach, Sedgen?”

Hallind sighed as he observed Sedgen, who was making an exaggerated apology.

“I came here to teach, of course!”

Sedgen spread his arms wide.

“I challenge Classes 1 and 5 to a competition! You’re not going to back down, are you? We have three top students in our elegant Class 1! Hahahahaha!”

Pointing towards the three students at the front, including Duran, Sedgen laughed heartily.

“Hello, esteemed and splendid students of Class 1.”

Selia and Chloe, who had been bowing their heads, shot Leo with menacing glares.

However, Leo remained unruffled.

“Professor Senna, what’s his deal?”

Chelsea asked with a puzzled expression.

“That’s Professor Sedgen, a colleague of Professor Hallind.”

“Is Professor Sedgen as renowned as Professor Hallind?”

“He’s a distinguished professor at Lumeren.”

Senna explained that while Hallind had a notorious reputation, Sedgen was a highly sought-after teacher by many students.

“Professor Sedgen. Since today is the first class, suggesting a competition out of the blue is a bit…”

“Oh! Senna Tilia, no, Assistant Professor Senna!”

Sedgen approached Senna with open arms.

“It’s been so long! I’ve been worried about you! Seeing you become an assistant professor warms my heart!”

“Thank you for your concern.”

Senna awkwardly smiled.

“Anyway, Assistant Professor Senna! It doesn’t matter that it’s the first class! Unexpected things can happen at Lumeren!”

“Still…”

“Our esteemed Class 1 students are always prepared for a competition, right?”

“Yes!”

“Truly elegant!”

Delighted, Sedgen moved toward Class 1, chuckling.

Senna, unable to tolerate it any longer, inquired, “What kind of competition are we talking about?”

“Ha ha ha! As I expected, you’re not backing down! Are you truly okay with this? It’s quite certain that Class 5 students will lose!”

“I have no vested interest in winning or losing,” Hallind stated in a dry tone.

“What’s significant is that, regardless of the outcome, the students will learn something.”

“Even if they learn defeat, I’ll teach them how to rise again. And also…”

Hallind curled the corners of his lips.

“They might also learn the grace of being a victor.”

Impressed by Hallind’s words, the students of Class 5 displayed touched expressions.

“Professor Senna was right!”

“Even though he may appear tough, our homeroom teacher clearly cares deeply for us!”

“We look up to you, Professor!”

Sedgen wore a sly smile.

“Very well. Let’s place a wager then. The losing class will be responsible for cleaning the first-year bathrooms for a month as a penalty. Additionally, the professor from the losing side will treat the winning class to drinks!”

“I have no objections.”

Upon hearing that response, Class 5 erupted into screams.

“Aaah!”

“Why would you agree so easily!”

“Hey there, ladies?”

Karl, now sweating nervously after the bold declaration, attempted to negotiate.

“You’ll go easy on me, right? We’re friends after all. Maybe we can aim for a draw?”

“I intend to win decisively.”

“That’s the spirit, elegantly.”

Selia offered a cold smile as she brushed her hair back, while Chloe cracked her knuckles with a mischievous grin.

“Leo! Chelsea! We’re counting on you two! Save our class!”

Karl clung to Leo and Chelsea, wearing a tearful expression.

The only students who could contend with the top students in Class 5 were the grade representative Leo and the runner-up in the Western exams, Chelsea.

“I don’t plan on losing.”

“Exactly. A wizard from Lewalin would never taste defeat.”

Leo spoke with a calm demeanor, and Chelsea snorted as she crossed her arms.

“So, what’s the game that will determine the outcome?”

“Ha ha ha! Don’t we have a traditional game in Lumeren Combat Studies?”

In response to Hallind’s question, Sedgen wore a meaningful smile.

“I see, it’s that, then.”

Hallind sighed softly.

Tension began to build between Classes 1 and 5.

“Could it be… that?”

“We’re actually going to do it.”

“I’ve played it before.”

The students swallowed hard.

Only Leo seemed puzzled.

“Is it a rather intense game?”

“It’s no joke. It’s an official event even during exchange matches with other hero academies.”

Chelsea also spoke with a sense of tension.

If it was an official game for exchange matches, it must be quite intense.

Clap!

Professor Sedgen clapped his hands, and the assistant homeroom teacher of Class 1 handed him something.

It was a transparent ball about the size of a fist.

“One of the Lumeren Combat Studies traditions! We will settle this with a game of Bastelaro!”

‘After creating such a serious atmosphere, we’re going to play ball games?’

Leo couldn’t help but wear an incredulous expression.

After observing Leo’s rigorous endurance training, Karl immediately fled.

On the first day of training with Leo, Chelsea sensed that something was terribly amiss.

However, it was already too late to reconsider.

Initially hesitant, Selia eventually yielded and fully committed to training with Leo.

Thankfully, having already endured it once, the experience was somewhat more bearable than the first time.

“Is this truly effective?”

“It is. Leo’s training is brutally demanding, yet strangely systematic.”

As they walked back to the female dormitory, Selia replied to Chelsea’s inquiry with an exhausted expression. Then, she flashed a wicked smile at Chelsea.

“Welcome to the abyss, Chelsea Lewalin.”

Chelsea looked genuinely frightened at that smile.

“It appears you’re fine if you can converse.”

“Don’t jest! You demon!”

While Leo chuckled and spoke, Selia seized him by the collar and shook him.

For some, it was an enjoyable weekend.

For others, it was a torturous weekend. And so, the second week began in Lumeren.

Karl, slouched at his desk, inquired of Chelsea, who was trembling in exhaustion.

“Chelsea, are you still alive?”

“No… I feel like I’m on the brink of death.”

“Here. I went to Lumeria yesterday and procured a high-quality patch for you.”

“For me?”

“Yes, we’re classmates, after all.”

Karl handed Chelsea a muscle recovery patch.

Chelsea, slightly touched, accepted the patch.

Then, looking at her, Karl extended his hand.

“What’s the meaning of this gesture?”

“I’m offering it to you at a special 30% discount, considering we’re friends.”

“Go to hell.”

Chelsea retorted with a cold tone and tossed the patch at Karl’s face.

Karl chuckled and placed the patch on Chelsea’s desk.

“Stay resilient. If you aspire to become a Battle Mage, endurance is crucial, right?”

“Do you want to join us? I can inquire if Leo will allow it.”

“No, no, I’m good.”

Karl awkwardly laughed, then whispered to Leo.

“Didn’t you push her too hard?”

“I actually took it easy on her.”

“That’s your version of ‘easy’?”

Karl made a solemn vow to never train with Leo again.

“By the way, I wonder who our homeroom teacher will be.”

Karl, seated in a chair, tapped the back of his head.

“I hope it’s an attractive female professor.”

All of a sudden, the classroom door swung open, and a middle-aged man in plain attire, with dark circles under his eyes, entered while clutching an attendance sheet.

Upon seeing him, the startled students hurriedly returned to their seats.

The man placed the attendance book on the lectern and wrote his name on the blackboard.

Tap-tap, tap.

The faces of the students in class 5 paled as they caught sight of the name.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Hallind Edmon, your homeroom teacher.”

He was one of the most esteemed instructors at Lumeren.

Typically, he taught senior students in the 4th or 5th grades!

He was famously referred to as the “Wall of Lamentation”!

He held the record for expelling the most students at Lumeren!

That was Hallind Edmon.

Observing the unexpected reactions of their fellow classmates, Leo whispered to Karl, who was seated in front.

“Is he a renowned professor?”

“Not just renowned. He’s been teaching at Lumeren for nearly 20 years.”

Karl whispered back, his nerves evident.

“He’s had numerous students who became heroes, but also quite a few who were expelled. He usually handles senior classes, so why is he teaching freshmen…!”

Hallind opened the attendance book.

“I’ll now take attendance. Karl Thomas.”

“Y-yes!”

“Iliana Raden.”

“Yes.”

Though it was merely a roll call by the homeroom teacher, the students in class 5 displayed a tense demeanor.

Out of 45 students, Leo’s name was the final one called.

“Leo Plov.”

“Yes.”

Thud-!

Hallind, concealing the attendance book, spoke with an exhausted expression.

“Some of you might be wondering why I’ve taken charge of a first-year class.”

Casually sliding his hands into the pockets of his coat, he spoke with a lack of enthusiasm.

“This batch has relatively higher entrance exam scores compared to your seniors. Consequently, Lumeren’s higher-ups have high expectations for all of you.”

The students, taken aback by this previously undisclosed information, looked amazed.

The classroom atmosphere quickly filled with excitement.

At that moment, a female student raised her hand.

“What is it? Iliana Raden.”

“Do other professors typically not teach first-year classes either?”

“That’s correct.”

“Is the assignment of homeroom professors done randomly?”

“No, each of us chose the class we wanted, and I selected yours.”

Hallind wasn’t just renowned for expelling numerous students; he was also a capable professor who had nurtured many outstanding students.

The students in class 5 naturally felt elated to hear that such a professor had chosen them.

“Is there a specific reason you picked our class?”

“Out of the ten classes, your batch had the lowest average score on the entrance exam.”

The previously cheerful atmosphere instantly deflated.

“Do you know why I expel the most students? Iliana Raden.”

“Ah, no.”

“It’s for efficiency.”

Professor Hallind fixed Iliana with a stern gaze.

“It’s better to identify students with no potential early on and focus on teaching those with potential, don’t you think?”

Confronted with Hallind’s intimidating stare, the same kind that would make even Lumeren’s seniors uneasy, tears welled up in Iliana’s eyes.

All of the students in class 5, except for Leo, held their breath, anticipating Hallind’s next move.

The tension was interrupted by a woman in her mid-twenties wearing glasses who entered the classroom.

“Oh dear! Professor Hallind, why are you scaring the students on the first day!”

She sighed deeply and stood next to Professor Hallind.

“Hello, class 5! I’m Senna Tilia, your co-homeroom teacher.”

With light brown hair and a cheerful demeanor, Professor Senna appeared to be the complete opposite of Hallind.

“Everyone! Don’t be too frightened of Professor Hallind! Even though he speaks this way, he truly cares about his students…”

“Senna Tilia. Step outside.”

As she tried to reassure the students, Professor Senna was called away.

“You haven’t changed since you were a student. How many times have I told you to fix that reckless attitude?”

“I’m sorry! I’ll correct it! I promise not to do it again!”

Through the slightly ajar classroom door, they saw Senna bow deeply, looking somewhat frantic.

“I like our co-homeroom teacher.”

“Me too. It’s nice to have at least one teacher with a good personality.”

Chelsea remarked with a chuckle, and Karl nodded in agreement.

The atmosphere seemed to lighten a bit among the other students as well.

A moment later, the two professors returned to the front of the classroom.

“I mentioned earlier that I’m in charge of you because your entrance exam average scores were the lowest, right?”

“Y-yes…”

As the students replied in a subdued tone, Professor Hallind wore a stern expression.

“In Lumeren, entrance exam scores become meaningless after just three months.”

The students widened their eyes in surprise.

“No matter what education you received before Lumeren, Lumeren goes beyond that. Therefore, the grades of Lumeren’s first years fluctuate significantly. It’s common for top-ranking students to hit rock bottom and vice versa.”

Professor Hallind slammed his hand on the lectern.

“Even during the upcoming midterms, one of you might rank first in the grade.”

The atmosphere in the class stirred.

“But remember this. While conquering the world of heroes is a privilege of the hero cadets, it’s also a duty. Does anyone know why it’s a duty?”

Chelsea raised her hand.

“Chelsea Lewalin, give it a try.”

“It’s because we could lose our lives.”

“Correct.”

Professor Hallind stated coldly.

“During my 20 years of teaching at Lumeren, I’ve attended the funerals of many students.”

The sound of people swallowing hard echoed throughout the room.

“As Lumeren students, you cannot refuse to venture into the world of heroes. It’s a matter of life and death. I want to send only students with the ability to survive there. For those who can’t…”

Professor Hallind emphasized his words.

“… I’ll expel them before they face a miserable end. This is the reason I took charge of you, who have the lowest average scores.”

Having made this statement, Professor Hallind handed the attendance book to Senna.

“That’s all I have to say. We’ll start combat training now, so change into your gym uniforms and head to the training ground.”

Professor Hallind promptly exited the classroom.

“Then everyone! See you at the training ground!”

Senna smiled at the students and left the classroom.

Students at the back of the classroom retrieved their gym uniforms from the lockers and proceeded to the changing rooms.

“He doesn’t appear to be just intimidating.”

Karl, entering the male changing room, commented.

“Right. If you think about it, Professor Hallind is one of the most respected professors at Lumeren.”

A classmate walking beside him remarked.

‘Was his name Tade?’

As Leo recalled the name, Tade continued speaking.

“He has the lowest student fatality rate.”

Every year, a significant number of students die at Lumeren.

It’s not because the academy pushes them to their limits.

In fact, Lumeren prioritizes student safety.

However, fatalities still occur because the students aspire to be heroes.

A hero is someone who leaps into challenges to save others.

Navigating the world of heroes and dungeon tactics.

And resolving incidents from all over the world.

Life at Lumeren Academy is always fraught with danger.

“Professor Hallind scared us from the beginning to remind us of this. So, let’s work hard from now on.”

Everyone nodded seriously at Tade’s words.

“Oh my? You look skinny when you dress up?”

A soprano-toned voice echoed from the open window.

Giggles from the chatty female students could be heard.

It turned out the male changing room was right next to the female one.

Hearing the voices from outside, the male students wore serious expressions.

They gathered in the middle of the changing room and whispered.

“Who do they think looks skinny when dressed?”

“Iliana?”

“No, that was Iliana’s voice just now.”

In a much more serious mood than before, they continued their discussion.

“Could it be Nella?”

When Karl mentioned a slender-framed beauty, Nella Kabin, the boys gasped in astonishment.

“I knew it!”

“True! Nella seems to have a surprising charm.”

Listening to the unnecessarily serious conversation of these adolescent boys, Leo shook his head.

‘These guys must be hero cadets.’

Anyone would wonder if such talk was fitting for potential heroes.

But Leo knew of a man who would discuss such matters even amidst life-threatening situations.

A hero.

Not just any hero, but a great hero.

It was [God’s Blacksmith] Dweno.

‘Why is such a guy still remembered and respected, but I’m forgotten?’

Leo felt wronged once again.

In the faculty lounge of the Department of Start, professors who were tasked with instructing this year’s incoming freshmen convened. This gathering served as an opportunity for the professors to establish connections before the commencement of the semester.

“It appears that this year’s freshmen are, on the whole, exceptional,” one professor remarked.

“Oh, speaking of that, didn’t the Knight Department secure three top students?” inquired Professor Ain.

In response, Professor Ren offered a subtle smile. “I must admit, I’m somewhat envious. In the field of Magic Studies, we have only managed to secure two top students.”

“Are you taunting the Summoning Department now, Ren?” Professor Yura’s expression furrowed.

“Haha, why would I?” Professor Ren replied.

“We’ll only determine which department will excel once the semester begins. Simply being a top incoming student doesn’t guarantee one will remain the best. And…” Professor Ain paused briefly during his discourse, casually swirling his wine glass. “Is there not a grade representative among the top students in this cohort?”

The professors concurred with his observation. Professor Ain took a sip of his wine.

“Well, it appears the grade representative aspires to join the Knight Department.”

‘This group will undoubtedly be a boon to the Knight Department.’

Professor Ain gazed at the other two professors with a mischievous expression. “You claimed uncertainty, yet you seem rather confident, my esteemed colleagues.”

‘It’s merely wishful thinking, Professor Ain. Student Leo will be joining our Magic department.’

With an outward chuckle, Professor Ren offered a meaningful smile. “Indeed, it does appear to be a stroke of bad luck.”

‘You jest, Leo Plov will come to the Summoning Department. It will be intriguing to witness your reaction upon reviewing his application.’

With a subtle snicker, Professor Yura internalized her mockery.

Subsequently, the teaching assistants presented the departmental applications.

“Professors, we have brought the departmental applications. We will organize them over the weekend.”

“Excellent work. Please, help yourselves to some refreshments.”

The professors graciously offered food and beverages to the assistants.

Meanwhile, Professors Ain, Yura, and Ren made their way to the Class 5 applications, raising questions among their colleagues.

“Why are they heading to the Class 5 applications?”

“Could there be a student they’re particularly interested in?”

“Why are they behaving so strangely?”

The trio of professors exchanged puzzled glances as they stumbled upon a picture of Leo at the top of the Class 5 application documents. What they saw left them in disbelief.

<Department Application>

Name: Leo Plov.

Class: 5th.

Applied Majors: Knight Studies, Magic Studies, Summoning.

All three professors had the same thought simultaneously.

‘What in the world is going on here?’

***

“You’re insane! Absolutely insane!”

Slap, slap, slap.

“Why are you hitting me?”

In the dormitory park, Selia grabbed Leo and smacked his back.

“Do you realize you’re the talk of the girls’ dormitory now? All class major! You said something utterly absurd, didn’t you?”

“Why doesn’t it make sense? I purchased all those major books and attended all those provisional lectures.”

“So you didn’t buy them as references, but as actual major books?”

“Of course.”

“Ah, you’re intentionally driving me crazy!”

Selia pulled at her hair and danced around.

“Do you think ‘all classes’ is even remotely sensible? If you play around with your major application like this, which professor will look upon you with favor?”

In Lumeren, professors held significant influence.

Fall out of favor with even one professor from your chosen major, and your academic life would be in shambles.

Being singled out by a major professor often led to expulsion.

Furthermore, major professors took immense pride in their fields.

It was no longer enough to merely look good; and what if you made a jest while selecting a sacred major.

It was no surprise if you became the target of all the major professors.

Having successfully gained admission to Lumeren and even becoming a grade representative, Selia was seething with frustration due to the immense trouble caused in just a week.

However, the person responsible acted as if there was no issue, making it impossible not to be infuriated.

“You! Go to the faculty office immediately, apologize to the professors, and rectify this!”

“I don’t want to. I intend to pursue all the majors.”

“Why are you behaving like this? Does ‘all classes’ even make any sense?”

In response to Selia’s agitation, Leo extended the palm of his left hand.

It appeared as if an aura was emanating from his palm, but then magical energy surged from above it.

Seeing this, Selia’s eyes widened in astonishment.

But there was more to come.

Finally, spirit energy enveloped Leo’s hand.

“You, you, you?”

“Even my parents don’t know about this yet.”

Leo, relaxing his grip, nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders.

Selia wore a disbelieving expression, her mouth moving without words.

“The professors have all confirmed my abilities. They’ll realize it’s not a joke.”

“What exactly are you?”

“Who am I?”

Leo smirked.

“I’m your cousin.”

***

“This is unprecedented. Since Lumeren’s establishment, or even in other hero academies, he’s the first.”

All majors.

Throughout the world’s long history, heroes had arisen.

However, in this world, where a record of heroes called the Hero Record existed, that hero was currently treated as a fictional character.

‘The fifth great hero, Kyle.’

But now, an all-major hero, once thought to exist only in fiction, had emerged.

Professors Ain, Yura, and Ren had already consulted with Galian.

The gist of the consultation was that Leo needed to choose a definite major.

The three professors passionately extolled Leo’s extraordinary talents.

“What should we do, Principal?”

“In this case, it’s best to allow the student to follow his desires.”

In response to Secretary Elena’s query, Galian offered a faint smile.

“Isn’t it the school’s responsibility to provide the education the student desires?”

***

Weekends at Lumeren were typically relaxed.

Given the rigorous weekday schedule, weekends promised much-needed rest.

During their free time, students could explore Lumeria or request an overnight stay.

“Does it make any sense to come to the training ground on such a sunny weekend?”

As Karl grumbled, Chelsea chimed in.

“I have a swordsmanship session scheduled with Leo today.”

Chelsea donned comfortable activewear.

A Battle Mage.

This referred to a wizard capable of combat on the front lines.

Distinct from a Dual-Class, known as a Magic Swordsman, a Battle Mage solely harnessed magical energy.

They enhanced their physical abilities with auxiliary magic and specialized in close combat magic, involving high-speed and multiple summonings.

While regular wizards provided long-range firepower from the rear, a Battle Mage’s role was to infiltrate enemy lines during emergencies and disrupt their formations.

A skilled Battle Mage often entered the fray, introducing numerous variables.

Chelsea had been greatly impressed by Leo, who had thwarted Talatunia during the entrance exam without employing any aura.

Furthermore, she eagerly anticipated Leo’s instruction.

“I didn’t know Leo was also a wizard.”

Thinking that guidance from a Magic Swordsman would be more beneficial than that from a pure knight, Chelsea decided to follow suit.

Selia, who had come to assist in Chelsea’s training, appeared displeased.

“If you came without a serious commitment, I suggest you reconsider.”

“I’m genuinely committed, trust me.”

“Oh? Well, Leo’s training won’t be a walk in the park.”

The prospect of Chelsea, with whom she had quarreled since childhood, facing hardships was amusing to Selia.

“By the way, Selia, what’s your relationship with Leo? Why are you two so close?”

Karl inquired with curiosity.

Chelsea, still unaware of their connection, also perked up her ears.

“Don’t go spreading rumors. Leo and I are cousins.”

“What?”

“Eh? Leo is from the Zerdingher family?”

“To be precise, he’s not exactly a Zerdingher. It’s a family matter, so please don’t pry.”

Selia responded with a smile.

Chelsea and Karl, aware that noble families often had intricate internal matters, chose not to delve further into the subject.

Leo turned to Karl and asked, “Karl, would you like to join us?”

“I’m interested, but unfortunately, I have to head to Lumeria shortly.”

“For some leisure?”

“No! I’m going to purchase ingredients for potions! The fatigue recovery potions are selling better than expected! Hahaha!”

Chelsea tilted her head at that remark.

“Coming from an alchemist family, you’re quite the businessman.”

“Alchemy requires a considerable investment!”

Karl made a circular gesture with his fingers and grinned.

“How about it? I can craft you a splendid magic sword or magic staff.”

“Can you create something superior to what we already possess at home?”

“My apologies, I didn’t realize.”

Discussing swords and staffs in front of a renowned hero family seemed ill-advised.

Chelsea chuckled softly to herself. “Leo, where should we begin?”

“Are you comfortable with physical activity?”

“Absolutely. I have excellent stamina! And I’m quite flexible!”

Chelsea extended her leg gracefully, akin to a ballerina.

It was a move that demanded flexibility and balance. Furthermore, she hopped around, demonstrating her agility to Leo.

She had a solid foundation. As a Battle Mage, once she honed her skills, it was evident that an average knight student wouldn’t stand a chance against Chelsea in close combat.

‘She must have a compelling reason to aspire to become a Battle Mage.’

“I know someone who’s a Battle Mage.”

“Really?”

Chelsea’s eyes lit up.

‘Well, not precisely a Battle Mage, that concept didn’t exist back then.’

Luna, who swiftly moved in melee combat and cast multiple spells, could be considered a precursor to the Battle Mage.

‘In fact, she could be seen as the progenitor of all modern wizards.’

Leo folded his arms.

“Chelsea, in your opinion, what’s the most crucial attribute for a Battle Mage?”

“Hmm? Let me think… High-speed spellcasting ability, the capability to cast multiple spells simultaneously, and proficiency in martial arts?”

While observing Chelsea differentiate Battle Mages from regular wizards, Leo interjected.

“No. The most vital aspect for a Battle Mage is…”

“What’s the most vital?”

“Endurance.”

Selia, who had been seated on a bench, rose quietly.

“Karl, let’s go.”

“Go where?”

“You mentioned you were heading to Lumeria.”

“There’s still time. Besides, didn’t you decide not to go?”

“I believe I have some pressing matters to attend to…”

“Selia, you’ll be training with me on weekends as well.”

“I refuse!”

“I’ve already corresponded with Uncle Zis about it, and he insists that you should.”

“Why would you do something so pointless!”

Selia lunged at Leo, grabbed his collar, and shook him vigorously.

“Listen carefully, Chelsea.”

“Yes.”

“A Battle Mage must be in constant motion. To achieve that, you need an unwavering stamina that never wears out. Buff magic has its limitations, so it won’t suffice.”

‘That’s precisely what the Battle Mages in our family preach.’

Battle Mages from the Lewalin family also underwent regular stamina training.

“In essence, Selia, it’s your destiny to train with me.”

“I despise that destiny!”

Despite Selia’s outburst, Leo paid her no mind.

“The moment you agreed to train with me, I made up my mind to do whatever it takes to mold you into a hero.”

“Yes! Leo! Let’s aspire to become heroes together!”

Chelsea interpreted Leo’s words as mutual encouragement and clenched her fist in response.

“So, you’ll be training with me from now on?”

“Yes!”

Later, Chelsea would reflect that she should have fled at that very moment.

“Ahahahahahahaha!”

The sound of laughter reverberated across the café terrace, located at the beginning of the street.

Selia, who was convulsed in laughter, clutching her stomach, found tears in her eyes after her bout of giggles.

“So, did you just answer one question and then ditch the magic class?”

“Are you finished laughing?”

Leo, maintaining an expression devoid of emotion, took a sip of his fruit juice.

“What did I say? Pursuing a major in magic is futile.”

Selia, now having composed herself after her laughter, spoke while lifting her teacup.

“If you’re from Zerdingher, you should be devoted to swordsmanship.”

“I’m not from Zerdingher.”

“If you’re studying the Phoenix Breath, and you’re not from Zerdingher, then where on earth are you from?”

Selia sipped her tea, looking at Leo with an incredulous expression.

“Regardless, you’re free until the afternoon class, right? Would you like to train with me?”

“Shall we engage in some physical training then?”

Selia’s face turned pale.

To others, Leo’s physical training sessions were akin to torture.

Recalling the grueling week at Plov House, Selia laughed awkwardly.

“I’ll focus on honing my sword skills…”

“You’re not planning to back out, are you?”

Leo smirked.

“How disappointed would Uncle Zis be to hear that you ran away from physical training out of fear?”

“Hey! Are you trying to get back at me for making fun of the magic class? You sly trickster!”

Seeing her cousin’s mischievous smile, Selia clenched her teeth.

“Alright, let’s train diligently.”

“Nope. Forget it.”

As Selia flailed, attempting to catch Leo, who was making his way to the armory, she called out.

“Hey, Leo!”

Karl rushed over.

“What’s happening? What about the class?”

“Professor Ren is searching for you.”

Selia’s face turned red.

“Professor is looking for you, Leo. You should hurry.”

“Why is he looking for me?”

“You ranked first in the magic theory exam.”

“What?”

Both Leo and Selia looked astonished.

Karl, panting heavily, quickly explained.

“The class is in chaos! The professor is furious because the student who ranked first didn’t show up!”

***

When Karl brought Leo back to the lecture hall, the atmosphere was icy.

The students who had passed the exam fixed their gazes on Leo as he entered through the classroom door.

Feeling their stares, Leo briefly appeared flustered.

‘Why is the mood so tense?’

“Student Leo, where were you instead of attending the class?”

Assistant Professor Anna, from Professor Ren’s team, asked quietly. Leo awkwardly replied with a smile.

“I was at the cafe.”

“We said the class would start immediately after the exam, didn’t we? Why were you at the cafe…”

Clap- Clap- Clap- Clap-

Suddenly, there was applause.

Professor Ren approached, smiling.

“Student Leo! I’m truly impressed by your genius. You ignored the easy questions and selectively solved the most challenging one, then left the class. Haha! Well, for a genius, the test I provided might have seemed trivial. Especially for a knight major student!”

Although he smiled, his eyes were sharp.

Knights and mages had long maintained a competitive relationship.

Consider the Lodren Empire, one of the strongest human nations, where there were political divisions based on knight factions led by Zerdingher and mage factions led by Lewalin.

At Lumeren, there were even some extremist students who believed their field was superior.

Therefore, a freshman representative, renowned for specializing in knight studies, attending a magic major class and turning in a nearly blank answer sheet, except for one challenging question, was more than enough to create misunderstandings.

Furthermore, Leo hadn’t returned to the class after leaving.

Leo quickly explained.

“Professor, I believe there’s been a misunderstanding.”

“A misunderstanding?”

“I thought I had failed the exam. I didn’t even know I ranked first.”

Upon hearing this, Professor Ren, who was relatively young among Lumeren professors, scrutinized Leo’s face.

‘He doesn’t appear to be lying. But why didn’t he answer the other questions?’

“I need to have a brief interview with Student Leo. Assistant Professor Anna, please take charge of the class for me.”

“Of course, Professor.”

Professor Anna nodded and proceeded to the podium.

Professor Ren led Leo to the back preparation room.

“Why didn’t you attempt the other questions on the exam?”

“Well…”

“Did you think the questions were too easy and not worth your time?”

“No, it’s just…”

Leo hesitated for a moment, silently thinking,

‘It’s embarrassing. In my previous life as a grand mage, I struggled with questions even a ten-year-old could solve?’

But he couldn’t lie. Staying silent could complicate his school life.

Eventually, Leo whispered, “The questions were too challenging for me.”

“What?”

Having solved the most difficult question and now claiming that the others were too tough didn’t make sense.

“I self-studied magic spells at home, but all I had were very old magical books. So, I only studied the outdated formulas. I had no idea that modern magical formulas were so complex. I’m ashamed that I underestimated my magic major and couldn’t attend the class.”

After explaining, he asked with a puzzled expression, “But what do you mean I ranked first? I barely solved one question.”

‘So, he didn’t grasp the activation formula structure and couldn’t handle the composite problems… So he gave up and only tackled the last question?’

The explanation started to make sense to Professor Ren.

If he had been self-studying from old magic books, he might not have been exposed to the activation formula.

The activation formula might be the latest trend, but it wasn’t a historically deep-rooted spell.

‘If he focused solely on spell interpretation, then it’s not implausible.’

Professor Ren picked up a piece of chalk and wrote a magic formula on the small blackboard in the preparation room.

“Try to solve this. Then, I’ll believe your explanation, Leo, and clarify why you ranked first.”

With his anger subsided, curiosity took over.

Younger generations were sensitive to trends.

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the activation formula had become mainstream among young mages, rather than just a trend.

In that sense, Leo could be seen as somewhat outdated.

However, he possessed strengths not commonly found among the current generation of mages.

‘He has a solid foundation. After all, the essence of magic lies in interpreting spells.’

A tree with strong roots might grow slower, but it grows taller in the end.

Professor Ren anticipated that Leo was already constructing ‘his own world of magic’.

Spell interpretation might have one correct answer, but there could be multiple paths to reach it.

He was intensely interested in observing how this rare type of student from the current generation approached spell-solving.

By witnessing the process of spell-solving, one could grasp a mage’s magical philosophy.

‘Let’s see what method of interpretation he uses.’

With shining eyes, he observed Leo as he stood before the blackboard.

Without uttering a word, Leo examined the question posed by Professor Ren and began to write.

Click-! Bang! Bang!

With each sound of the chalk, Professor Ren felt a thrill.

After writing down the correct answer, Leo turned around.

Professor Ren couldn’t discern Leo’s approach to solving the problem.

“I’m finished.”

This was because Leo had mentally deciphered the intricate magic formula.

***

‘Why isn’t he coming out?’

Assistant Professor Anna gazed toward the preparation room, her expression puzzled.

Whether it was a reprimand or dismissal, she expected a swift resolution, but it was taking longer than expected.

Among Lumeren’s magic professors, Professor Ren was the most passionate about magic.

Although not well-known outside, he was acclaimed as a genius within the field of magic academia.

Anna had also admired him after reading his magical research paper and applied to be his assistant.

‘But that image has shattered since becoming an assistant professor.’

Normally a mild-mannered man, he exhibited all sorts of eccentricities when it came to magic.

Bang-!

As if to validate Anna’s concerns, the door to the preparation room burst open.

The students were startled.

Upon seeing Professor Ren’s countenance, Anna sighed, looking at the ceiling.

‘He’s had another one of his episodes. I wish he wouldn’t act like this in front of the freshmen.’

Fortunately, Professor Ren soon exited the lecture hall.

Leo emerged from the preparation room, moving at a deliberate pace.

“What did the professor say, Student Leo?”

“He told me to attend the class.”

“Very well, take your seat. We will proceed with the lesson.”

Without further delay, Assistant Professor Anna picked up her chalk.

The students wore puzzled expressions.

Whether it was the professor suddenly dashing out of the classroom on the first day or the assistant professor who appeared unfazed by such behavior, something was amiss.

In contrast, Leo remained composed.

Of course, even Leo couldn’t fathom why Professor Ren was behaving in such a manner.

‘But isn’t it typical for mages to act eccentric? It’s not as if it’s a rare occurrence.’

Leo, more than anyone else, understood the idiosyncrasies of mages.

***

Bang-!

The door to the magic department office swung open abruptly.

The professors working inside glanced up.

Upon seeing Professor Ren’s expression, they casually returned to their tasks.

“Senior!”

Professor Albi turned his head with an impassive demeanor.

“Thank you! Senior! You’ve given me an incredible gift!”

Professor Albi, whose face had been seized by the enthusiastic junior, brushed him aside as if discarding a bothersome object.

He then left the faculty room without hesitation, well aware that dealing with Professor Ren was always a chore.

Professor Ren, who had tumbled to the ground, swiftly got to his feet and followed Albi.

“What’s gotten into him today?”

“Just let it be; it’s one of those days.”

The other professors reacted with indifference.

“Senior! I’ll treat you to a meal soon.”

“I’d like to hear the reason for this sudden gratitude.”

Facing the junior who was expressing abrupt appreciation, Professor Albi inquired, to which Professor Ren grinned.

“It’s about the student Leo Plov, whom you recommended as the grade representative.”

“Why him?”

“Student Leo is a magical prodigy.”

“…? But isn’t he from the Knight department?”

“No. Leo should be in the Magic department.”

Professor Ren gestured expansively.

“A magical prodigy in the Knight department? Oh, come on. That’s a ridiculous notion. He’s not meant to wield a sword. Sending such a student to specialize in Knighthood is an affront to magic, senior.”

Subsequently, Professor Ren enthusiastically recounted the events that unfolded during the initial lecture.

After hearing the entire narrative, Professor Albi also appeared astonished.

“Senior! Leo has attained a 5th-year level skill in spell interpretation through self-study! If that’s not genius, then what is?”

“What do you want from me?”

Ren inquired directly, wearing an enigmatic smile.

“Please use your influence to ensure that Leo can confidently select the Magic department.”

“Choosing a department is the student’s prerogative, and if he possesses such talent, he would naturally choose Magic without my persuasion.”

“That seems probable.”

Professor Ren seemed convinced.

“If he possesses such talent and still doesn’t choose magic, then he must be an oddity.”

“It doesn’t seem fitting for you to say that.”

***

Time had flown by since the freshmen had first enrolled.

Before they realized it, it was the final day of the provisional lessons.

After school, the students were seated in their respective classrooms.

Now, they would select their majors and commence their formal classes.

The students were not aware yet, but their homeroom teachers had already been assigned.

The teaching assistant, who had supervised the students during the provisional lessons, began the explanation.

“We will now commence the process of choosing departments and registering for classes. As previously explained, there are no elective courses in the first semester of the first year. All time slots are allocated for mandatory subjects.”

These mandatory subjects included combat and heroics, crucial for aspiring heroes, as well as language, math, history, etiquette, and morality.

The class collectively had seven subjects in total, and their schedules were predetermined.

In addition to these, they needed to register for their major subjects.

The students of class 5 quickly completed their department application forms and class registration schedules.

The teaching assistant, positioned at the podium, carefully reviewed the documents the students submitted.

And, after going through the last sheet, he paused for a moment.

“Student Leo?”

“Yes, teaching assistant?”

“You’ve made a mistake with your major selection. You’ve listed three.”

With a friendly smile, the assistant returned the form.

Taking the form back from the assistant, Leo replied.

“No, I filled it out correctly.”

“Huh?”

“I intend to pursue all three majors.”

For a moment, the attention of all his classmates focused on Leo.

Leo stated calmly.

“I’m an all-around student.”
