[The true gods have been dethroned.]

A voice whispers in Alon’s ear.

It’s unclear whether it belongs to a man, a woman, a child, or an elder; the sound is distorted, like bizarre static.

Alon, who had experienced a similar phenomenon once before, soon realized that his body was now floating alone in a place resembling the deep sea he had seen earlier.

[The original gods who lost their thrones were deprived of many things.]

The static-filled voice continued in a low tone.

[Someone lost their name.]

[Someone lost their body.]

[Someone lost their mind.]

[Someone lost their honor.]

[Many lost things and were robbed.]

[The dark beings plundered much.]

As Alon tried to focus on this mysterious voice, which seemed capable of driving him mad if he let his guard down for even a moment, he suddenly felt a sense of confusion.

According to what he knew, when one looked into a mirror, one had to face the truth.

However, in his vision, there was only a void darker than the deep sea, with nothing but the static-laden voice resounding.

‘What on earth is this?’

Alon tried to speak, but unfortunately, his voice did not come out as he intended. The moment he sensed this strangeness—

[It is Bevvelnatbyandtteumlooknyeokkwaengddeungneongmeutneumveldekmalkbim

-]

“I”

The voice, now filled with even harsher static, rang in his ears so violently that he instinctively raised his hands to block them.

Huu-

[-

Veldeknatgutdeungrongmubkwaengryotgatchyumdabe.]

The eerie sound, as if it would rob him of his hearing, continued as though it were directly piercing into his mind.

And then,

[So, it is still not time.]

With a faint noise,

[Eliminate the one in hiding, the one who was deprived.]

By the time Alon heard this again,

[Feast (食)-]

he finally saw it.

[For now—]

What he faced was neither the deep sea nor the abyss.

It was countless nebulae at the edge of his vision.

[For the sake of greatness, I will withhold words.]

Alon stared blankly ahead, entranced by what he had mistaken for the abyss until now.

As he ‘recognized’ what appeared to be the abyss, static began to invade his vision as well.

A single point of his vision.

Half of his vision.

His entire vision filled with static.

And Alon witnessed it.

The ‘eye’ that was staring at him.

An eye, as if filled with nebulae, residing within the abyss.

And then,

[Close your eyes.]

At its command—

“Gasp—!”

He instinctively gasped and repeatedly blinked his startled eyes, only to find himself back at the deep-sea observatory.

The observer standing before Alon asked with a deeply concerned expression,

“Are… are you okay?”

As Alon momentarily furrowed his brow at the observer’s startled face, he realized his eyes were damp. He glanced into a mirror.

There, he saw himself bleeding from his eyes, nose, and mouth.

###

A little later.

“Yes.”

“As expected, it’s not an ordinary situation, is it?”

Alon, having wiped away the blood, heard this from the observer.

She seemed uncertain about how to explain things and, after some hesitation, spoke with a peculiar expression,

“So, you’re saying that someone spoke to you when you looked into the mirror?”

“Yes.”

“I heard the story there.”

“Yes, it was definitely about the gods—”

“Wait, don’t say any more than that.”

“…Was I not supposed to mention it?”

“Yes. Whether here or elsewhere, it’s better not to talk about that. Unless you want to see those things clinging to the roots crawling out.”

The observer let out a sigh.

“Anyway, you saw a large, noise-covered entity inside the mirror, right?”

“Yes.”

At Alon’s nod, she paused for a moment before speaking.

“Let me clarify something first. The mirror you looked into earlier is called a ‘bronze mirror that records history.’ As the name suggests, its function is to show the recorded history it stores.”

“Then, normally—”

“Normally, you should have seen the history displayed by the bronze mirror. Its ability is strictly limited to that. But you—”

The observer hesitated briefly before continuing.

“It seems you saw something else.”

“…What do you mean by ‘something else’?”

“I can’t explain it. Even as an observer, I can’t identify an entity that can break into the bronze mirror’s abilities and control it at will.”

Alon looked again at the bronze mirror in his hand, hoping its power might activate this time.

But, unfortunately, after witnessing the strange phenomenon earlier, nothing else occurred when he looked into the mirror.

It felt as if the mirror itself was refusing to show anything more.

Realizing this, Alon sighed and set the mirror down, prompting the observer to continue her explanation.

“One thing is certain: you encountered an entity beyond your capacity. Given that you bled profusely and all words were distorted by noise, it’s clear.”

“So, seeing an entity beyond one’s capacity leads to such results?”

“If the difference in rank is significant, yes. I can’t even tell what’s happening right now.”

The observer shifted her gaze from the bronze mirror back to Alon.

“At this point, there’s not much more I can do to help.”

“…That’s unfortunate. I didn’t even get half the information I wanted.”

“There is one thing I can deduce from your words.”

“…What is it?”

“It’s likely that the ‘deprived one’ you encountered refers to an Outer God. And it seems that what you saw might have been trying to protect you.”

“Protect me?”

It was a word that felt unnatural given the recent events.

As Alon appeared confused, the observer collected her thoughts and continued speaking.

“I told you, didn’t I? The bronze mirror shows history.”

“Yes.”

“But not everyone sees the same history. The starting point differs.”

“The starting point differs?”

The observer pointed to the bronze mirror.

“Most of those who look into this mirror typically see the era of the Forgotten Gods as the base history. But a select few can even see beyond that, into a more distant past.”

As Alon listened, he asked a question.

“Are you saying there’s a history that predates the era of the Forgotten Gods?”

“I haven’t seen it myself, but I believe there is.”

“Why is that?”

“My predecessor, my mentor, saw that past and left a will before passing away.”

Her voice became tinged with bitterness as she murmured, “Never look into the past before the era of the gods.”

“It was an absurd death. Suddenly being shown a past that had remained hidden despite using the mirror dozens of times, and then dying.”

“…Just looking into a further past can kill someone?”

“Yes. If one’s rank is not suitable, it’s inevitable.”

She added,

“If you had seen the past, bleeding from your eyes, nose, and mouth wouldn’t have been the end of it. You would have either died, bleeding from every pore, or become incapacitated, even if you were lucky.”

“…”

“I’m not sure of the exact criteria for seeing the past, but if you were able to glimpse the primordial past like my mentor did, it’s practically the same as being saved.”

“Could it be unrelated to that?”

“No, I think it is.”

The observer, looking at the bronze mirror in Alon’s hand, spoke,

“When my mentor saw the primordial past and died, the bronze mirror lost its power for about a year. Just like now.”

There was a hint of unknown anger and longing in her eyes.

After a brief pause, she continued,

“For now, I’ll send you back outside. With the mirror having lost its power, there’s nothing more you can do here. Perhaps in a year, things might be different.”

“…Alright, I’ll leave it to you.”

Alon boarded the sphere that the observer had created and was sent back outside the chamber.

“May I ask you one more question?”

“What is it?”

“…This isn’t related to what I heard earlier, but I heard it while dealing with the Outer God. Do you know anything about the ‘Star-Eater’?”

He asked her this question.

###

After Alon disembarked, Felin and Penia also landed on the Syphra Archipelago.

In addition to investigating the mermen, they were there to look into the illegal distribution of goods from the Blue Tower.

Officially, the tower’s goods were only handled by authorized contractors. Felin and Penia were there to investigate the distribution of illegal goods as well.

“Ugh, this is so annoying. Why do I, of all people, have to do this just because I’m a deputy tower lord?”

Seeing Penia revert to her usual self and dragging her staff along while looking utterly exhausted, Felin thought,

‘As expected.’

His suspicions about Count Palatio had largely dissipated after witnessing the count’s impressive magic during the battle with the mermen a week ago.

The reason Felin was reminded of the count when looking at Penia was not due to curiosity about why she was so deferential toward him, but rather due to a deeper question—no, a certainty.

After observing Penia for a while, Felin finally spoke,

“Sister.”

“Why are you talking to me when it’s scorching hot?”

Penia responds irritably.

“Can I ask you something?”

“What is it?”

As he looks at her,

“Do you, by any chance, like Count Palatio?”

Felin casually throws out the question.

And then—

Smack!

“Ugh!”

Without breaking her stride, Penia smacks the back of Felin’s head.

Felin looks at her, surprised and a bit bewildered.

“Wait, why did you suddenly hit me—”

But before he could finish, Penia slaps the back of his head again.

“Ugh, it’s already unbearably hot, and you’re getting on my nerves! Are you trying to die, you idiot!?”

Like a volcano erupting, she grabs Felin by the hair and starts pounding his side with her other hand.

“Ow! Ow! Sister!? Why suddenly!?”

“Like? Do I like him? Is that even a question!? Why would I like Count Palatio?!”

“No, I just thought you always seem so reserved when you’re around him…!”

“You idiot, I’ve always been reserved!”

“No, you weren’t always—”

“Stop spewing nonsense! Why on earth would I like him?! How did you even come to that conclusion?!”

“So, you don’t like him?”

“I have no reason to like him in the first place! Why would I like Count Palatio—”

Penia, seemingly even angrier at Felin’s confused expression, picks up the pace of her punches.

Realizing he might have really crossed the line, Felin instinctively tries to apologize, but—

“I do, like him.”

“…?”

Suddenly, Penia stops her punches and mutters those words.

Felin, clutching his throbbing side, stares at her in confusion.

“I do… I do like him, yes, I like him.”

He notices her gaze trembling and directed toward something.

When he turns his head, there stands Count Palatio, silently watching Penia and Felin with an expressionless face.

And then—

“I… I love you…?”

Penia’s sorrowful, melancholic voice echoes in Felin’s ears.

Round 214

Prev | TOC | Next

The setting for filming was in full swing.

In the meantime, I began cooking with the ingredients I had prepped the day before.

Starting with stir-fried vegetables seasoned with soy sauce, I moved on to various dishes.

Not only rice, but this time, I also prepared soup.

For the first time, I would be presenting miso soup.

Since it’s a mukbang, I prepared a large quantity.

For dessert, I also had strawberries and Layla sorbet ready.

“Everything is ready!”

“Yes!”

Just as I heard a staff member say the filming setup was complete, I went to Seon-ah, who was talking with the manager.

“Should we serve the food now?”

“Well, instead of putting everything out, wouldn’t it be better to serve each dish after they finish one?”

“But since Ara eats so well, won’t it seem frustrating to hold back?”

“That’s true. Okay, let’s set it up in advance and let them eat as much as they want.”

We laid out the food on the table prepared for filming.

I decided to refill the food as needed, and then called Seo Ye-eun and Ara, who were playing with the kids.

“Everything’s ready!”

“We’re coming!”

As Seo Ye-eun approached and checked the table, her face lit up with surprise.

“Wow, I thought the saying ‘the table’s legs will break’ was an exaggeration, but this table might actually break!”

“Have you had a meal yet?”

“No, I haven’t. I was already really hungry. I’ve been looking forward to this since I smelled the food. Thank you, I’ll enjoy it.”

“If you need more, let me know anytime. I can make more right away since everything is prepared.”

While I was preparing, Ara and I even took a quick look around the village fields, and Seo Ye-eun smiled brightly and nodded.

“I’ll have to eat a lot. Hehe.”

“Alright, let’s start filming!”

At the staff’s cue, Seo Ye-eun sat at the table.

Ara, who had been standing around, quickly sat down at my signal.

I had hoped to do a live broadcast outside as well, but decided to save that for another time.

For now, I would consider things step by step, based on this video.

“The camera is rolling.”

The filming finally began, and a simple introduction followed.

“Hello, everyone. Welcome to Ara’s daily life. Today, guess what? Ta-da! I’m here as a guest!”

As expected from someone with broadcasting experience, Seo Ye-eun smoothly delivered her lines, despite not having a set script.

“We became connected through filming a drama and an advertisement together! Ara, how do you feel?”

“It’s great! We’re going to have a competition to see who eats more!”

“I don’t think I can beat Ara, but I’ll give it my best shot.”

“Okay!”

Seo Ye-eun even introduced the food on her own, and finally picked up her spoon.

Seeing this, Ara also quietly began eating, following her lead.

“Mm?!?!”

Seo Ye-eun’s eyes widened as she tasted the eggplant side dish on her rice.

She looked around, unsure what to do.

“This is so delicious! What is this?”

I realized that Seo Ye-eun had only ever tasted the garlic I had made.

While the garlic was, of course, tastier than regular garlic, it wasn’t significantly different when eaten raw.

But the dishes made with my homegrown ingredients had an entirely different flavor.

‘And all the side dishes she’s eating now are seasoned with my homemade soy sauce and miso.’

Up until now, I had used store-bought seasonings, but not anymore.

Soy sauce, miso, red pepper flakes, garlic, and amber grill seasoning—

Finally, I had gathered enough basic seasonings to start full-scale cooking.

“Yum yum!”

Ara also focused intensely on eating.

Both of them were so absorbed in their food that they weren’t engaging in any conversation or comments, only focusing on eating.

In the midst of this intense scene, someone suddenly appeared.

-Grr?

‘Wait, Gomgom?!’

The waddling, fatal figure had arrived.

It seemed Gomgom was drawn by the smell, as it tilted its head and approached Ara and Seo Ye-eun.

Since the mushroom of the World Tree was part of the stir-fried vegetables, it could have been the mushroom’s scent that attracted Gomgom.

“I’ll take him back.”

“Hold on. Let’s just leave him be for a bit.”

I was about to quietly guide Gomgom away, but Seon-ah waved her hand as if it was fine.

“Huh? Gomgom has arrived!”

-Grr!

Finally noticing Gomgom’s presence, Ara immediately offered her seat.

Seo Ye-eun, now aware of Gomgom, snapped back to attention.

“Oh….”

Realizing too late that she had been too focused on eating, she looked around awkwardly. However, when we signaled from across the table that everything was okay, she gave an embarrassed smile.

“The food was just so good that I completely lost myself in eating. Wow, I’ve never had anything this delicious in my life.”

Soon after, Ara brought another chair from somewhere.

Thus, the mukbang continued with Gomgom joining the table.

“This flavor… How should I describe it? It’s soy sauce-based, but the soy sauce itself feels special. It has a more concentrated umami that spreads across the tongue. It’s really unique. I didn’t know soy sauce could have such a savory aroma…”

Suddenly, the audio filled up with her voice.

Beside her, Ara and Gomgom were eating diligently, while I quietly checked if the food was running out and brought more as needed.

Seo Ye-eun enthusiastically reviewed the food, but before long, she got lost in eating again.

It seemed like she forgot herself once more while eating.

Watching her from the side, her reaction was both cute and a bit comical, making Seon-ah and me smile as we observed.

Though I couldn’t predict what kind of reaction the video would get once it was released, I had a feeling it wouldn’t be bad.

Visually, it was perfect.

Not only was Seo Ye-eun, a famous actress, stunningly beautiful, but there was also our Ara, the cutest in the world, along with Gomgom, who could easily rival her.

Just watching them eat filled me with joy and made it impossible to look away.

Clatter.

An hour had passed.

Before we knew it, the food was nearly gone.

Seo Ye-eun, alternating between regaining focus and getting lost in eating, finally seemed full, smiling lazily with a soft chuckle.

“I’m so happy.”

Seeing her express her honest feelings without regard for the broadcast made Seon-ah gently cup her cheek.

“She’s so cute.”

“Don’t be rude.”

“Oppa, don’t you think Ye-eun is cute too?!”

Of course, she looked adorable.

But I didn’t want to get caught up in Seon-ah’s teasing, so I remained silent.

Besides, our kids are just as cute, if not more.

‘Our Ara is cuter!’

As I thought about it, I realized, oh, am I being a biased dad?

I was feeling jealous because Seon-ah said Seo Ye-eun was cute, not Ara. What a foolish dad I am.

In any case, it was a good thing I didn’t say anything.

Seon-ah would have teased me even more.

“Today was so happy, fun, and delicious! I hope to see you all again next time!”

After the closing remarks, the filming finally ended.

“Wow, great job, everyone!”

“You were amazing, actress, thank you so much.”

At Seon-ah’s and my words, Seo Ye-eun frantically waved her hands, laughing as if to say it was nothing.

“No, thank you. You treated me to such delicious food and allowed me to film with these adorable kids.”

“Oh, right, shouldn’t the others eat too? Please join us.”

Now, shall we move on to the after-party?

*

Ryu Cheon had been eagerly awaiting this day.

What day was it?

It was the day a special video would be uploaded on Ara’s Daily Life.

‘Mukbang…’

A video of eating with a Korean actress.

Ryu Cheon, who had already watched the drama and commercial hundreds of times, couldn’t stop checking YouTube.

The video was set to go live at 7 PM.

There were only three minutes left.

She could see numerous comments from people like her who were already waiting on Ara’s Daily Life channel.

-I’m suffocating, please release it already!

-Mukbang with Ye-eun noona! Open the door! Bang bang bang!

“Ara, I miss you. Time, please go faster.”

The video hadn’t even started yet, but the number of people gathered for the live viewing had already surpassed 5,000.

However, living in China where numbers are perceived differently, Ryu Cheon felt a bit irritated.

“Ara’s doing a mukbang, and only 5,000 people are watching? This is a loss for humanity.”

In the end, she hit the share button and spread the word wherever she could, and finally, the time had come.

Ryu Cheon quickly connected the projector, linking YouTube to the massive screen.

In the grand screening room of the skyscraper guild built for welfare, Ryu Cheon sat alone, playing Ara’s mukbang.

“Ah.”

It started.

The screen transitioned along with the countdown.

Ara and Seo Ye-eun appeared sitting at the table, with the background showing the Dungeon of Gluttony.

“I want to visit again.”

Seeing that background and Ara made Ryu Cheon long for the experiences of that day.

The mukbang began with a greeting, and new dishes soon caught her eye.

The two of them ate happily.

Before long, Gomgom suddenly appeared from somewhere.

“Pffft.”

Ara took care of Gomgom, and that sight was so cute and heartwarming that Ryu Cheon wanted to rush over and hug them right away.

Seo Ye-eun briefly commented on the taste and introduced the dishes, but soon got lost in eating again.

The three of them ate so heartily that just watching made Ryu Cheon hungry.

Regretting not having brought a snack, Ryu Cheon couldn’t bear to leave her seat and watched the video to the end.

Twenty minutes later, the video ended with a final farewell, and the screen went dark.

“Haa.”

It was fulfilling.

The video had been worth the anticipation.

This would definitely make it to her infinite replay list.

But for now, Ryu Cheon was simply hungry.

“Rice.”

The white rice that Ara had eaten so earnestly.

Its beautiful, glossy sheen came to mind, and she knew she had to have some.

She hurriedly headed to the dining hall and boldly made her request.

“Rice.”

“Huh? Miss Ryu Cheon? You want rice?”

“Yes.”

Ryu Cheon successfully got her rice and ate it diligently with side dishes.

Thinking back, she had spotted a Chinese vegetable dish in the video. The next time she visited, she wanted to try Chinese food made from Kyu-seong’s ingredients.

With Ara, of course.

As she thought about it, she realized that after watching such a video, she couldn’t possibly wait any longer.

Having already visited the Dungeon of Gluttony once, Ryu Cheon, overwhelmed with nostalgia, decided to go back to Korea.

‘Once I finish my work.’

After checking her schedule, she figured that if she compressed her tasks, she could carve out about two days.

No, if she pushed herself, maybe three?

In any case, she had made up her mind and needed to inform Yu Bihong and her father.

Without fail, she would visit Korea to see Ara.

***

“Oh my, our Ara is doing so well.”

It was a video that had already been replayed countless times.

My mother had even saved it on her phone so she could enjoy it endlessly.

The video she was watching was of Ara filming for a drama.

Looking back at it now, it was cute, but also made me cringe a little.

Meanwhile, someone else was watching something different.

-Gulp, gulp, slurp.

Ara’s commercial.

This was what my father was watching.

“It’s so delicious!”

It was the mukbang video we filmed with Seo Ye-eun.

Seon-ah was checking the comments one by one as she watched.

It was clear that the whole family was united in spirit, watching Ara’s videos together, and so I decided to return home with Ara.

Round 213

A dungeon in Yeosu.

Finally, as the group emerged from clearing the dungeon, they raised their glasses in celebration.

“I just want to get back and take a shower.”

“I want beer! A cold beer!”

The awakened members of the guild located in Yeosu, and the second team from Ara Hongryeon, who supported them, were present.

Despite it being a high-difficulty dungeon ranked as 6th level, they wore light expressions as if they had just returned from an intense camping trip.

This was partly thanks to the presence of Kang Hanul, the leader of the second team, but there was also another factor.

“Does this mean we won’t be able to eat those delicious items anymore?”

At someone’s disappointed comment, a moment of silence fell.

A topic they had been avoiding discussing.

The guild members from Yeosu looked down with gloomy expressions.

While their skills contributed to their safe strategy of the 6th-level dungeon, Kyu-seong’s crops played a massive role as well.

Not only were they effective, but the incredible taste had greatly boosted the team’s morale.

Conquering a dungeon wasn’t just about defeating monsters.

In fact, the most significant challenge often involved logistical issues like food, clothing, and shelter.

This time, most of the food problems during the dungeon raid were solved by Kyu-seong’s crops.

Recently, as they expanded the fields, they also began supplying crops that couldn’t be used as items.

Ara Hongryeon had started using these crops for supplies, and the results were fantastic.

“Hahaha! We can always call for help again when needed! This isn’t the last time we’ll meet!”

“We’ll definitely ask for your help again!”

At Kang Hanul’s cheerful voice, the expressions of the Yeosu guild members brightened once more.

As they successfully completed their schedule, staff from Ara Hongryeon soon arrived in Yeosu to meet them.

“Great work, Team Leader.”

“A 6th-level dungeon is a piece of cake for me. Hahaha!”

“While you were conquering the dungeon, we received some news.”

“Hmm? What news?”

Kang Hanul tilted his head, puzzled.

News? Had something urgent happened?

“Awakened Kyu-seong has…”

“Kyu-seong? What about Kyu-seong!?”

As the staff member spoke seriously, Kang Hanul’s expression hardened.

Could he have been involved in another incident?

Given that Kyu-seong possessed a special ability but lacked combat power, Kang Hanul couldn’t help but worry.

Of course, this was because he didn’t know about Ara or the Seven Deadly Sins by Kyu-seong’s side.

“Awakened Kyu-seong has successfully cultivated rice.”

“What?”

“And he brought homemade kimchi. He also completed making doenjang (soybean paste) and ganjang (soy sauce). He plans to make gochujang (red pepper paste) soon.”

At the unexpected news, Kang Han-ul was left dumbfounded.

The other members of the second team also stood there, eyes wide in shock.

“Rice?”

Kang Hanul barely managed to speak.

The staff member nodded firmly.

“Yes, rice.”

“Kyu-seong’s rice?”

“Yes, Awakened Kyu-seong’s rice.”

Thud!

Kang Hanul fell to his knees.

His unfocused eyes wandered into the air.

“Ah, ah…”

“Everyone in the guild who was there at the time has experienced Kyu-seong’s rice. And kimchi too.”

“Was it good?”

“It would be more accurate to say it was an experience unlike anything they’ve had before. Simply saying it was ‘delicious’ doesn’t do it justice.”

The staff member nodded solemnly.

At that, all the members of the second team could feel their mouths watering, swallowing hard to suppress their drool.

While Kyu-seong’s crops had always been tasty and excellent, there had been a small, 0.001% feeling of something missing.

It was the absence of rice.

After all, there’s a saying that Koreans are powered by rice.

While everything had been great, the lack of Korean food was a slight disappointment for Kang Hanul.

But now, rice?

And not only that, kimchi, doenjang, and ganjang as well?

“He said he’d make gochujang soon, too.”

Kang Hanul recalled the time he asked Kyu-seong for a doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), and Kyu-seong confidently promised he’d make it happen.

“Can I leave the cleanup to you?”

“Of course. Please go ahead and return.”

“Thank you.”

As Kang Hanul stood up again, his eyes shone brightly, like two blazing suns.

***

A few days passed after delivering the by-products.

During that time, I made gochujang and stored it in jars, feeling proud as I looked over the field.

The current field was located in the village of Gonol.

Due to the large number of goblins and gnolls, the field was vast.

Most of the Rookies were summoned from here.

Additionally, goblins and gnolls interested in farming were also working in the field together.

“Most of the slimes take care of things on their own…”

The work done by the goblins and gnolls was quite similar to mine.

They sowed seeds, thinned out the sprouts, and harvested.

Everything else was handled by the slimes, so it didn’t seem particularly strenuous.

Thanks to that, those who had spare time could devote themselves more to their primary tasks.

– “Great Lord! My house is finally complete!”

“Oh, Mammon. Shall we take a look together?”

– “Yes, please!”

The pace of village construction had gained momentum, and now new buildings were popping up daily.

Due to the increased speed of mining, building materials were piling up, and the strong gnolls and the dexterous goblins teamed up to quickly build structures.

Thanks to this speed, it seemed the village buildings would all be completed in less than a month.

“This looks amazing! Very impressive.”

– “Hehe, as the Goblin King, I put a lot of thought into it. This is now my palace!”

Despite his words, Mammon’s house was similar to the other goblin houses.

However, it was true that Mammon had paid extra attention to detail, as there was a more refined touch to it.

It gave off the vibe of a well-built, vintage house.

It felt like the interior would be charming and antique once we went inside.

“It’s definitely different from the slime village.”

The slime village looked like a scene from a fairy tale.

In comparison, Gonol village had a much more lived-in, human-like atmosphere.

It seemed more practical, I would say.

Since we were at it, I went inside Mammon’s house.

In the meantime, Ara, who had been playing in the distance, came along to join us.

“Wow! This is fantastic!”

– “Of course you’d notice. I poured my heart into decorating the interior.”

It felt more like a gallery than a house.

From the paintings on the walls—when did he even paint those?—to various sculptures and structures of all sizes, Mammon’s works were scattered everywhere.

There was even a courtyard inside the house, with a U-shaped opening, where lush green grass was growing and adorned with charming sculptures.

“Whoa.”

I really liked it.

I should take inspiration from this when I build my house in the dungeon.

“Is Kyu-seong going to build a house like this?”

“Huh? Oh, I’d like to, but…”

For now, I was staying in a hastily built structure.

I didn’t feel uncomfortable, so I was just living in it, but after seeing Mammon’s house, I started to get a little greedy.

– “Great Lord, you should build a house too! We will use all our skills and experience to create the best house for you!”

“Thanks, I’ll give it some serious thought.”

I had been thinking of this dungeon as my home, but it wouldn’t be bad to build a house like this.

Building it with a full view of the scenery and enjoying morning coffee in front of it sounded pretty romantic.

“Not that there’s anywhere without a great view around here.”

Should I build houses in various places, then?

One in the slime village, one by the lake, one by the sea, and one in the forest…

It wouldn’t be bad to move around and sleep in different places.

“Alright, I’ll build several houses, then.”

– “Oh! What a great idea! A Great Lord should have multiple places to stay!”

“Shall I build the first one in the slime village?”

“That sounds wonderful!”

As we talked, I checked the time and realized it was about time to head out.

Today was the day actress Seo Ye-eun was scheduled to visit the dungeon.

We had arranged to film a mukbang together.

“Ara, shall we head out?”

“Yes!”

We were already prepared to go, so we just needed to leave.

As Mammon saw us off, Ara and I stepped out of the dungeon, and right at that moment, I got a message.

“Oh, have you already arrived? We’re waiting just out front.”

As I ended the call, I saw a large van climbing up the hill.

It was one of those vans used by celebrities.

The car parked, and people started getting out—Seo Ye-eun, her staff, and her managers.

“You’re here? It’s been a while.”

“Hello! Hey, Ara!”

“Hello!”

“Shall we go in?”

“Wow, I’m nervous.”

I’d heard it was her first time entering a dungeon.

In fact, it was rare for civilians to be allowed inside a dungeon.

However, some infinite dungeons operated like unique cafes or restaurants, although they were very rare.

‘Should I open a restaurant soon…?’

Coincidentally, all the construction was finished, and I was preparing to take on the next project for a restaurant.

I didn’t know when Jae-seong would arrive, but it wouldn’t hurt to be prepared in advance.

Of course, I’d have to consult him about the desired interior and various facilities first.

“Wow.”

“So, this is the dungeon.”

Everyone who came inside marveled as they looked around.

Even so, the place felt empty since there was nothing there except for a small vegetable garden and two slimes slowly wriggling around.

“Monster!”

“Oh, that’s the slime I mentioned earlier.”

“How cute.”

The slime noticed the newcomers and stopped, almost as if asking, “What are you looking at?”

When someone asked if they could touch it, I gladly gave permission.

Squish, squish.

The unique texture of the slime seemed to be a hit, and it became very popular.

Thanks to that, Ara turned her head slightly in a huff.

“I’m a slime too. I’m cute too.”

Ara’s quiet mumbling was so adorable that I couldn’t help but squish her cheeks softly.

After finishing the brief tour, we headed underground.

As we passed the altar and reached the entrance to the Dungeon of Gluttony, the group expressed their curiosity.

“Wow, there’s a place like this too.”

“Are we filming inside here?”

“It looks like there are rooms.”

The reactions of people who still didn’t know what was inside.

Soon, we crossed over to the Dungeon of Gluttony.

Whoosh.

The cool breeze hit us as soon as we stepped out.

The Milky Way replaced the sunlight, casting its glow over the land, and the fresh grass swayed gently in the breeze.

“Wow!”

“No way, after crossing through the door, we get this kind of view…”

“Wait, the background in the YouTube videos wasn’t CGI?!”

Many people had thought that the backgrounds in Ara’s videos were CGI, and it seemed that even one of the staff had thought so.

“Alright, let’s go.”

I led the group towards the slime village.

Just like the others who had visited before, they expressed awe and wonder.

“Wow!”

“This is insane, absolutely incredible!”

“So, this is Kyu-seong’s…!”

Just then, Seon-ah, who had been in the blue forest, returned riding on Woofy.

The children in the village, curious about the new visitors, rushed out with wide eyes to greet them.

“Is this a dream?”

Seo Ye-eun muttered in disbelief, then spotted Kkumuris, who had approached her nearby.

“All my slimes are gentle, so you can pet them if you’d like.”

“Can… can I really? Thank you.”

No need to be that thankful.

It seemed Seo Ye-eun had taken a liking to Kkumuris.

She carefully picked up Kkumuris and held it in her arms.

Then Kkumuris spoke.

“Heh heh?”

Alon, walking along the main road, soon found himself at the eastern coast of Syphra. He glanced around, noticing how the eastern beach was far quieter than the village he first arrived at. All he could see was sand, the sea, and distant cliffs—nothing else.

“I really made it…” he thought.

Remembering the man who suddenly changed his attitude and kindly showed him the way, Alon wore a peculiar expression as he began walking along the shore. Soon, he pulled out a necklace marked with the black wood pattern given by ‘that being’ he encountered at the Colony.

He never expected to encounter a different race openly on this coast, especially one he hadn’t seen even in Psychedelia.

Thus, with the necklace in hand, Alon kept walking on the empty sand toward the approaching cliffs until…

“Hm?”

He noticed a woman watching him from a rocky path leading beyond the cliffs.

No, it wasn’t a woman.

“A mermaid.”

While the upper body was undoubtedly human, the lower half had the streamlined form of a fish. Alon approached her, verifying her form.

“Who are you, and why do you have that necklace?”

The beautiful mermaid asked with a voice full of evident wariness. Alon, noting the beauty of her voice as much as her appearance, replied,

“I came here with an introduction from Dragonkin.”

“The Dragonkin?”

“I heard that with this item, I’d be able to see the truth.”

When he showed the necklace to the mermaid, she mumbled the words “Dragonkin” several times, as if pondering something, then asked,

“…Are you referring to the ones with long tails?”

“Tails… hmm, they are quite long, I suppose.”

“How long exactly?”

“Long enough to make a question mark with them?”

Alon responded, though puzzled by the question. However, his answer seemed to be what she wanted, as the mermaid, initially cautious, relaxed and spoke,

“It seems you really are a guest. You’ve come to see, right?”

“Yes.”

“Then, please follow me.”

With a nod from Alon, the mermaid climbed down the rocks and dove into the sea.

Wooong-

She soon created a massive sphere, like a drop of water, in front of her. It shimmered in a reddish hue under the setting sun.

“Get in here,” the mermaid instructed.

Alon hesitated for a moment before stepping into the sphere. As soon as he entered, layers of magic began to cover the sphere.

“Alright, we’re moving now,” she announced, pulling the sphere down toward the sea.

Passing through the crimson waters dyed by twilight, they soon descended into the dark depths. Alon, steadily sinking into the deep sea, felt no particular fear, as if the mermaid, who hadn’t even introduced herself, was indifferent to the situation.

However, Alon couldn’t help but feel a chill as the surroundings grew pitch black, with nothing visible.

It felt as though he were floating in an endless void.

Amid this strange unease and discomfort, he briefly felt something peculiar…

“Huh?”

“…?”

At some point, a single beam of light appeared in the pitch-black darkness. As Alon noticed it, an aurora-like green light gently spread through the deep sea, easing his anxiety.

Captivated by the beautiful sight, Alon let out a quiet exclamation. As the mermaid continued to pull the sphere deeper, the green aurora became clearer to Alon’s eyes. After a little more time had passed…

“We’ve arrived.”

Alon found himself at a cave.

“This place is…”

As the sphere dissolved, Alon stepped into the cave, looking around with an intrigued expression. It seemed like any other cave, but the fact that he could breathe normally here was fascinating.

“Follow me.”

Distracted by his surroundings, Alon was startled by the mermaid’s voice. He turned to see her lower body transform: her streamlined shape had grown into two human-like legs. Apart from the gills on her neck, she looked nearly indistinguishable from a human. Realizing why Alon was surprised, the mermaid gave a faint smile.

“This only happens in this sanctuary.”

As if understanding Alon’s reaction, she led him further inside the cave. After about ten minutes, Alon arrived at a massive chamber.

“…Wow.”

He couldn’t help but marvel. Aside from the central altar, the chamber was empty, but the ceiling of the cave revealed the ‘sky.’ Yes, it was the sky. Despite being in the deep sea, a starry night sky spread across the cavern ceiling.

Alon, who hadn’t even uttered a word when he saw the aurora earlier, stared blankly at the ceiling, this time exclaiming openly.

“…Is it beautiful to you?”

Suddenly, the mermaid’s voice rang out.

“Yes, it is.”

Seeing Alon nod, her expression turned oddly bittersweet. No, it was something more than that—a profound melancholy. Just as Alon sensed the nature of this emotion…

“I see. For now… yes.”

She mumbled softly, her voice barely audible to Alon, before continuing the conversation.

“This is the sky you’ve always seen.”

“…But wasn’t it still daytime when we came in?”

“It took us some time to descend. It’s not too early for the stars to appear. Anyway—”

The mermaid changed the subject.

“Welcome to the Sanctuary of Observation. I am the ‘Observer.’ You came here to see the truth, didn’t you?”

“That’s right. I was told I’d be able to see the truth here.”

“You made a wise choice.”

“…Did I?”

“Yes. Once you see the truth, you will understand everything.”

With that, she moved toward the altar, retrieving a mirror, which she handed to Alon.

“This is…?”

“Look into it. You will see what you’ve been searching for.”

Taking the mirror, Alon peered into it. He saw his own expressionless face reflected back, feeling puzzled.

Then, he experienced a strange sensation. It felt as if the entire world was being sucked into the mirror. Alon realized that his perspective had shifted.

[The true gods have been dethroned.]

A voice echoed in his mind.

####

Hidan, an operative of the organization working for the Blue Moon, had arrived at Moolman, one of Asteria’s territories. Moolman was a place where the influence of the underworld was strong, neglected by the nobility.

Hidan had come here for one reason: he had learned that the ringleaders, who were plotting against the Great Moon, would be gathering in this area. Following the orders of Jaweol—Deus Macallion—he was here to identify those conspiring to defame the Great Moon.

Arriving a little ahead of the appointed time, Hidan was preparing to conceal himself in advance.

As soon as he arrived at the basement entrance, there were only red bloodstains in sight.

Seeing the blood trailing outside the building, Hidan realized that there had been an attack. As he opened the door, he was greeted by a dreadful scene.

Drip, drip.

A horrifying environment unfolded before Hidan.

The room was filled with corpses—faces mangled by something, bodies split in half, and limbs missing. There were even bodies with eyes still wide open in terror. Numerous other gruesome remains littered the room, creating a terrifying atmosphere.

Despite the gruesome sight, Hidan’s mind remained calm.

“Who could have done this? Traitors? Black Light Cultists? The Roots? No—none of them would go to such lengths. Could it be the Shadows? …No, the Shadows wouldn’t leave behind such evidence.”

Even in this dire situation, he was attempting to deduce who was responsible.

Crash!

Hearing a sudden noise from above, Hidan quickly moved to the upper floor.

When he reached the second floor, he saw a bizarre scene.

Five people, unmistakably nobles of Asteria, were seated around a large round table, their necks twisted two full turns, killed in a strange manner.

“Huh?”

Standing in the middle of the round table was a man, staring directly at him.

The black-haired, blue-eyed man stood in the silent, moonlit room, gazing calmly at Hidan, who had appeared abruptly.

The man held no visible weapon. There was nothing resembling a weapon at his waist, nor anywhere else.

Still, Hidan instinctively understood: this man was the one who had caused the horrific scene.

He unconsciously tried to suppress his wildly beating heart, assuming a tense expression.

The man did nothing. Yet, Hidan sensed that he was a formidable presence.

There was no evidence or clear reason, only an instinctive awareness that the black-haired, blue-eyed man was making this fact known to him.

But Hidan couldn’t just stand there, so he quietly reached for the sword at his waist.

At that moment—

“Ah.”

The man, previously expressionless, broke into a smile.

It was an innocent smile, one that seemed impossible for someone who had created such a scene.

As that smile appeared, the suffocating pressure also vanished, leaving Hidan bewildered.

Then—

Tap! Tap, tap.

The man stepped down from the round table and started walking toward Hidan.

Seeing this, Hidan tried to draw his sword, but—

Thud.

The man, having closed the distance in an instant, pressed the hilt of the sword back into its sheath.

Click!

The sword slid back in smoothly, as if Hidan hadn’t exerted any force at all. Before he could process what had just happened—

“The job here is already done, so you can leave. But—if I were to say one thing.”

The man glanced at Hidan, then—

Pat, pat.

He patted Hidan on the shoulder.

“Next time, make sure to do your support work properly.”

With that innocent smile, he added,

“This is a rather sensitive matter.”

And with those words, he disappeared from the building.

Left alone in the vacant spot, Hidan stood there, staring blankly at the door through which the man had exited.

Round 212

I took out all the monster by-products for now.

Young-seong mentioned that sorting, organizing, and researching would take quite a bit of time, and I nodded in agreement.

“Fusing and synthesizing the minerals you brought will also take some time.”

“I’m fine with that. It’s for the guild members to wear, so it’s better to take extra care for them rather than for me.”

“Alright. I’ll make sure it’s safe and performs well. But it seems like collaborating would be a good idea…”

Young-seong glanced at the guild leader.

Han Seok-jun, the guild leader, smiled warmly and said,

“I’ll get in touch with Ironblood and Terror.”

“Ah, as expected from the guild leader.”

“But if it’s not developed independently, our share might decrease. Are you okay with that?”

“I’m fine with it.”

I had no issues at all.

Ironblood and Terror Guilds didn’t feel like outsiders anymore anyway.

After all, aren’t we all Koreans?

‘Ah, doenjang jjigae.’

I suddenly remembered something and asked,

“By the way, is Team Leader 2 very busy these days?”

“Hmm, he went on a business trip to a dungeon in Yeosu.

It’ll probably take at least a few days for him to return.”

“Ah, I see.”

I hadn’t made gochujang yet, which was a bit tricky, but the doenjang was ready.

I could make doenjang jjigae whenever I wanted.

Gulp.

Just imagining it made my mouth water.

Ah, I really want to eat!

“Why do you ask about Team Leader 2?”

Si-young tilted her head and asked.

“Team Leader 2 made a request to me, and it’s almost complete.”

“A request? Complete?”

“Yes, he specifically asked me to make doenjang jjigae.”

“Doenjang jjigae?!”

Suddenly, everyone’s eyes were on me, and they started firing questions like a rapid-fire gun.

“Doenjang jjigae? You’re going to make it, Kyu-seong?”

“What about rice? Last time, didn’t your rice farming fail? Did you finally succeed?”

“Is it ready? I remember you mentioning making doenjang before. It must’ve turned out well?”

As I was getting flustered by the barrage of questions, Ara stepped in to mediate.

“One person at a time! Kyu-seong is feeling overwhelmed!”

At her words, everyone calmed down and began exchanging glances as if deciding who would ask the first question.

Soon, after exchanging looks, Si-young spoke up.

“Can we try it too, Kyu-seong?”

“Of course. But it’s not fully complete yet. The doenjang and soy sauce are ready, but I haven’t made the gochujang yet…”

“Gochujang…!!”

“We can skip the gochujang or use store-bought, though. Oh, and by the way, the rice farming you mentioned was successful this time, so I can make rice. I also tried making kimchi.”

“Ah… ahhh…”

“Kimchi…!!”

Si-young couldn’t continue her sentence, and the reactions of others were similar.

“Since we’re all here, how about we have a meal together?”

“I was waiting for you to say that! You weren’t planning on leaving without feeding us, were you, Kyu-seong?”

“Come on, like I wouldn’t take care of you all. Now that it’s come to this, I’ll give some rice to the cafeteria too, so let’s all eat together with the staff and guild members.”

At the mention of food, everyone was excited.

Even Ara, who eats my cooking every day, was so happy that she started dancing.

We decided to leave the by-products for now and headed to the cafeteria.

The chefs and the cafeteria manager, whom I hadn’t seen in a while, greeted us warmly.

“I’ve brought some new ingredients.”

“New ingredients? We always welcome that! There’s hardly any ingredient we can’t handle, so feel free to hand them over.”

They had no idea what I brought.

As all the chefs gathered, I took out the sack of rice under their eager gazes.

“Hmm? This is…”

“Rice? Is this rice?”

“Why did you bring rice?”

“Wait… no way…!!”

The manager and chefs all looked at me in shock, while the guild leader and Si-young couldn’t take their eyes off the sack of rice.

“This is delicious rice!”

Ara exclaimed with drool in her mouth.

Sensing the growing anticipation, Han Seok-jun, the guild leader, spoke in an urgent voice.

“Quickly, let’s try it right away.”

It was the first time seeing the guild leader act like this.

He had always been calm, so seeing him look anxious felt quite refreshing.

However, it seemed like the others didn’t notice his change in demeanor and were just nodding vigorously.

“And there’s this as well.”

Kimchi.

Although all the ingredients except the red pepper powder were store-bought, it still tasted better than regular kimchi.

When I took out the kimchi container, the people watching curiously gasped.

Gasp!”

“Is this… kimchi?!”

As more food that Koreans would love appeared, everyone looked like they were about to faint from excitement.

Of course, there are some who can’t eat kimchi, but it didn’t seem like there was anyone like that here.

“Is this enough?”

I continued stacking rice sacks and kimchi containers as I asked.

The manager quickly assessed the amount and nodded.

“It should be more than enough.”

“Well, I don’t think there’ll be any leftovers.”

Though I was thinking of Ara when I said this, everyone else took it differently and agreed enthusiastically.

“I’m going to eat five bowls!”

“Only five? I think I can manage eight!”

“Kyu-seong, can I have a taste of the kimchi? I can’t hold back any longer.”

“Wait, hold on! Let’s cook the rice first! We’re going to make the best rice ever!”

Despite the lively conversation, the chefs, as expected of their skill, started moving like machines.

Watching them prepare the meal, we left the kitchen and sat in the dining area.

Ring-ring-ring!

Just as the phone rang, I thought it might be a call from my family checking on the guild, but it turned out to be from Iron-Blood Entertainment.

Since Ara was scheduled to appear on a broadcast tonight, I thought it might be a check-in, so I excused myself and answered.

“Hello?”

-Hello, Kyu-seong. How have you been?

“Oh, the manager for actress Seo Ye-eun! I’ve been doing well!”

-Yes, that’s right. Would you be able to talk for a moment?

“Of course.”

-So, during the last commercial shoot, I heard you had agreed to do a YouTube video with our actress. Is that correct?

“Uh? Yes, I think I did mention that.”

-Well, our actress would like to be a guest on Ara’s daily life channel for her next schedule, and we were wondering if that would be possible.

Whoa, an unexpected offer!

Though we had verbally agreed, since she’s a celebrity, I thought it was just polite talk.

‘Won’t she be too busy?’

Well, since she’s the one who suggested it, I probably don’t need to worry about that.

“We’d love to have her anytime.”

-Oh, really? How about next Tuesday evening?

“Next Tuesday… That works!”

-Thank you. We’ll follow up with the details and any preparations needed via text. Is that alright?

“Yes.”

-Thanks again. We’ll see you on Tuesday.

“Thank you. Goodbye.”

After hanging up, I shared the news with Ara.

“Ara, you know actress Seo Ye-eun, right?”

“We ate seolleongtang together! It was delicious!”

“That’s right. She wants to have dinner with you next Thursday. How does that sound?”

“Great! It’ll be a good match!”

Hearing our conversation, Si-young showed interest.

“You’re meeting Seo Ye-eun?”

“Yes, she’s agreed to be a guest on Ara’s YouTube channel.”

“Wow, I’ve been watching a drama with Seo Ye-eun lately. That’s so cool.”

“Oh! Ara is also appearing in that drama today. I forgot to mention it.”

Upon hearing this, Young-seong and the guild leader perked up.

“Oh, it’s that drama you filmed before. I’ll have to check it out tonight.”

“Oh, is Ara going to be on TV? Ara, you must be excited!”

“Yep!”

As we chatted, the familiar smell of freshly cooked rice began to spread throughout the cafeteria.

The aroma was so rich and fragrant that I could already feel my mouth watering.

“Wow, is that the smell of cooking rice?”

“As expected from the rice Kyu-seong made. This is already promising.”

Young-seong and his wife looked at the kitchen with anticipation.

Then, they quietly approached me and asked,

“Can we come over again next time?”

“Of course. I was actually wondering why you hadn’t mentioned it earlier.”

“Well, we’ve been really busy lately, and Si-young’s been preoccupied with getting back to work. Plus, we felt a bit hesitant about just dropping by your place uninvited.”

“That’s unnecessary worry. As long as you’re not too busy, feel free to visit anytime.”

“Oh, really?”

“Things have changed a bit since your last visit. Plus, we can now even go to the beach.”

“The beach? You have that too?”

At that moment, the guild leader cautiously chimed in.

“Kyu-seong, if it’s not too much trouble, could I join you as well?”

“Of course! I should have invited you sooner, and I apologize for that.”

Come to think of it, Young-seong, Si-young, Jeong So-yeon, Kang Hanul, and even Ryu Cheon had all visited my dungeon.

I felt a bit sorry for not having shown the guild leader around.

“How about we hold a guild gathering at my dungeon next time?”

“Oh, we couldn’t impose like that…”

“It’s no imposition if it’s just once in a while. Honestly, I would feel proud and happy if everyone could enjoy a good meal and some rest together.”

Despite my words, Han Seok-jun seemed to be deep in thought, still hesitating.

At that point, Ara couldn’t hold back and added,

“Everyone should come visit! My home is amazing!”

“Hmm…”

“There’s no need to overthink it. As I said, I’d be happy to treat the guild members.”

“I’ll consider it.”

Judging by his expression, it seemed like he was seriously thinking about it in a positive light.

“The rice is ready! The broadcast is starting!”

Right on cue, the rice was finished cooking.

Just like last time, the broadcast announcement echoed throughout the guild building, and people started pouring into the cafeteria.

“I knew it when Kyu-seong arrived at the guild today!”

“I had a feeling it was finally time, and it really is!”

“What’s that smell? It’s rice, but why does it make my mouth water so much?”

Soon, the chefs came out of the kitchen carrying the pot of rice.

As the lid was lifted, white steam billowed out, unleashing the full aroma of the perfectly cooked rice.

“Wow!”

“Wait, is this rice from Kyu-seong’s harvest?!”

Finally, everyone seemed to realize and admired the radiant appearance of the perfectly cooked white rice.

One of the head chefs spoke up,

“Alright, let’s start serving. Get your bowls and line up.”

But why does the rice smell even better than when I cooked it?

I guess professional chefs really do have their own way of cooking rice.

Before I knew it, my family, who had been on a tour, also came down to the cafeteria.

We all lined up together to get our rice.

The tables were already set with kimchi and various side dishes.

“Kyu-seong, thank you for the meal!”

“Please come by every day, Kyu-seong!”

Hearing the guild members and staff thanking me, I awkwardly bowed my head.

Finally, I took a spoonful of kimchi and a large bite of the rice.

‘Wow!!!’

My taste buds exploded.

“!”

A booming sound, “Woong!”, spreads throughout the unseen depths, and Alon feels a primal fear start to churn in his brain.

His whole body trembles, as if standing before a predator, his mind grows hazy, and a thought begins to dominate his mind: he must escape from this place right now.

And then—

‘No—No—If I run—’

‘If I run, I mustn’t—’

‘Runn… away’

‘I must… run!’

Radan was the same.

His mind twists, as if entranced by something. His thoughts are subconsciously driven to a single conclusion, repeating over and over in his head:

‘Run away run away run away run away run away run away run away run away run away run away run away run away run away run away run away run away run away.’

Instinctively, Radan flails his arms around, as if grasping for something nearby.

It turns out to be a piece of wooden debris from a sunken pirate ship brought down by the mermen.

Seeing the sharp edge of the wood, Radan feels a strange sense of relief.

‘I can escape.’

With that thought, he raises the debris with his right hand and aims it at his neck without hesitation.

“Guk—!”

But as sanity returns to him, Radan bites his tongue and twists the wood in his hand, driving it into his forearm instead.

Stinging pain erupts, accompanied by trickling blood.

‘I almost made a terrible mistake.’

Seeing this, Radan clenches his teeth, realizing he had nearly fallen victim to the entity lurking in the abyss below.

Yet soon, a sense of confusion arises.

The reason being that the giant eye, which had just been pulling him into the depths and flooding him with terror, now seemed to reveal an alien emotion.

As he turns his dazed gaze away, Radan notices that he is not the only one in the sea, drawn here by the green scales.

Standing beside him is the Great Moon, holding a blue-tinged potion between his lips, readying a technique.

Despite experiencing the same terrifying sensation, the Great Moon’s face remains unchanged.

He is utterly impassive, as if that overwhelming fear had never affected him at all.

Thus, Radan, staring at Alon with a gaze tinged with awe, suddenly realizes that everything has stopped.

The green scales dragging him into the depths cease their movements, and the turbulent currents come to a halt.

Simultaneously—

[-!]

The previously emotionless eyes of the merman now brim with vivid confusion and fear as they fix on Radan.

And then—

[Buvyivuiviuyviuvieiejfiejkejkjvjjeiijiejeeeesshsijkd}

A chilling, eerie voice echoes, and the massive eye that had been dragging Radan into the depths begins to slowly close.

As the eye closes, fleeting emotions pass by.

Shock.

Fear.

…Reverence.

[If only there had been more time…]

And finally, as the eye in the deep darkness closes completely, the force that had been pulling him down—Kalak-Kul—vanishes entirely.

“…”

Staring blankly at the sight, Radan then turns his gaze towards Alon—

No, towards the Great Moon—gazing blankly.

However, Alon, who was receiving Radan’s gaze of awe, was also thinking,

‘…What just happened?’

In fact, he had not fully grasped what had transpired.

After all, he was also in the midst of a fear that gnawed at his mind, trying desperately to cast a spell to prevent Radan from being dragged away, when Kalak-Kul suddenly vanished.

‘I think I heard something about the “Star-Eater” mixed with some noise,’ Alon recalled, looking puzzled as the eerie voice echoed in his mind.

For a moment, confusion lingered, but then—

‘I’m alive…’

Satisfied for now with the simple fact of being alive, Alon moved toward the surface to take a breath.

####

About a week later—

In the end, Radan unified the Seven Archipelagos, while Alon had to endure a week of recovery from the aftereffects of his depleted mana.

Though the mana exhaustion penalty was relatively mild, taking only a week to recover compared to the mana poisoning that could take up to half a year, Alon found it manageable.

Especially since dealing with the external press had nearly turned him into a shell of himself.

Of course, the main reason Alon could handle Kalak-Kul relatively easily was because Kalak-Kul had only recently manifested and had not fully inherited its powers.

Moreover, the human sacrifice required to summon it had not been properly carried out.

What mattered most to Alon at this point was that he had managed to deal with a demigod-level entity without sustaining any serious injuries.

After resting for four days, Alon experienced two significant changes.

The first was the attitude of the pirates.

From the beginning, Alon was aware that the pirates’ gazes were not particularly friendly toward him.

However, since that day—

“Ah, hello! Big Brother!”

“Have you eaten well, Big Brother?”

“…Yes.”

—The pirates had started calling Alon “Big Brother.”

And it wasn’t just the regular pirates.

“Ah, isn’t it Big Brother? Is your body feeling better now?”

“Tariq.”

Even the pirate lords, who were directly under Radan’s command, had begun addressing him this way.

“If you need anything, just let me know. I’ll have the men handle it immediately.”

“Thank you.”

“Haha—this is nothing! Of course, we’d do this for Big Brother!”

Watching the pirate lord of the Fourth Archipelago leave with a hearty laugh, Alon wore a peculiar expression.

Just a few days ago, the pirates had looked at him with discontent, but now, they were showing him obvious trust and respect.

He wasn’t sure when or where it started, but every pirate was calling Alon “Big Brother.”

‘…Not that it’s a bad thing, but it feels like I’ve become a mob boss.’

The other change was Felin Crysinne’s attitude.

Though he hadn’t been openly hostile after their initial meeting, he also hadn’t been particularly friendly.

At best, their relationship could be described as distant.

But ever since the last incident, Felin had been looking at Alon with a gaze full of reverence.

Honestly, from Alon’s perspective, it felt a bit overwhelming.

‘Well, there’s nothing wrong with building a positive relationship with a talented mage.’

Still, the drastic shift in Felin’s behavior left Alon feeling slightly bewildered.

Anyway, after sensing these changes over the past four days, Alon decided to head to the eastern shore that had been mentioned.

As soon as he felt somewhat recovered, he went to find Radan.

“Big Brother, are you feeling better now?”

“Do you know anything about the eastern shore?”

“The eastern shore?”

“Yes.”

“Well… I think it’s the eastern shore of the Syphra Archipelago.”

“Syphra?”

“Yes, it’s about six hours away from here. Have you heard of it?”

“I’m somewhat familiar.”

Alon nodded, as the Syphra Archipelago was a location he had frequently visited while playing Psychedelia.

‘The Syphra Archipelago, also known as the Island of Criminals.’

Similar to the underworlds of Asteria and Ashtalon in the United Kingdom, the Island of Criminals was a gathering place for outlaws and pirates.

Whenever Alon played Psychedelia, he often visited Syphra to use its black market, which sold many unidentified relics.

Recalling this, Alon asked, “Can we head there now?”

“If Big Brother wants to move, we can leave right away.”

“Please do. Ah.”

As he received an immediate agreement and nodded, Alon let out a small exclamation and spoke again.

“Come to think of it, I haven’t given you this yet.”

Saying so, he placed a small box on the table.

“It’s a gift.”

“…A gift?”

“Yes, I meant to give it to you earlier, but it took some time.”

Radan, slightly surprised by Alon’s words, looked at the box and then replied,

“If it’s a gift from Big Brother, I’ll gladly accept it.”

With a smile, he took the box.

Soon, Alon, Radan, and the others set off for the Syphra Archipelago.

####

The journey to Syphra was quite calm, and this time, both Penia and Felin accompanied Alon voluntarily, not by his request.

It seemed they had something to investigate in Syphra.

After about six hours of sailing, they arrived at Syphra around noon.

For now, Alon decided to move alone on the island, as his business on the eastern shore was something he needed to do by himself.

‘Of course, the island’s criminal nature makes it a bit tricky.’

Although the island had a rough reputation, it was essentially a village, so Alon felt it should be relatively safe.

With that in mind, he was the first to step off the ship.

Before long, Alon regretted venturing out alone.

‘What a filthy maze this is.’

The Syphra Archipelago’s pathways were more convoluted than he had anticipated.

Despite not being directionally challenged, he found himself looping back to the same place multiple times.

‘How can it be that going left brings me back here, going straight returns me here, and even going right leads me here?’

It was absurd.

He stopped in front of a sign he had already seen several times—”Rum’s Bounty”—and, on a whim, approached a group of four people drinking in the nearby street pub.

“Excuse me, do any of you know how to get to the eastern shore?”

His tone was reasonably polite.

“Hah? How the hell should I know, you idiot!”

“Pwahahaha! You really do look like an idiot—what a softie, huh? A total softie! Hahaha!”

As expected, Alon realized he wouldn’t get any helpful answers from them, so he moved on.

About 20 minutes later—

“…Ah.”

A low sigh escaped Alon.

Despite having moved to another location, he found himself in front of “Rum’s Bounty” for the fifth time.

Just as he was considering whether he should turn back—

“Hey—”

“?”

He turned toward the voice and saw a man.

He recognized the man as one of those who had been mocking him from the corner of a pub earlier. Alon wore a puzzled expression, as the man now wore an anxious smile instead.

The man quickly spoke,

“U-uh, you’re looking for the eastern shore, right? You can reach it by following this road straight ahead, then taking the left turn at the fork on the right.”

This man, who had not offered any help earlier, was now providing directions.

His overly polite smile, combined with a rough appearance suggesting he’d done some dirty work, sparked a small suspicion in Alon.

“Really, I swear. Once you take the fork on the right, you’ll see a path over the hill leading to the shore. You can check it yourself.”

Noticing Alon’s hesitation, the man hurriedly added, trying to sound convincing.

‘…He was mocking me earlier, so why is he helping now?’

“Ah, well, thinking it over, I felt a bit bad about it, so I thought I should tell you,” the man explained awkwardly.

Alon gave a thoughtful hum, his expression still uncertain.

‘Well, the road he mentioned isn’t an alley but a main street, so there’s probably no trap… I might as well try it.’

Feeling tired of wandering aimlessly for nearly an hour, Alon decided to give the man’s directions a chance.

“For now, I’ll say thanks.”

With that, Alon began walking along the main street as instructed.

Meanwhile, the man watched Alon leave and, once he was out of sight, his forced smile faded, replaced by a look of terror and anxiety.

He turned toward the alley next to the pub, where he saw his companions, who had been laughing with him earlier, now lying on the ground.

They were covered in blood, their bodies in such a gruesome state that it was unclear if they were alive or dead.

Standing nearby, watching him with an eerie, chilling gaze that could make him wet himself just from eye contact, was the Pirate King.

And then—

The Pirate King gave a nod—

And vanished.

Thud—!

The man collapsed to the ground on the spot.

Though he fell in an embarrassing position, he didn’t care.

Instead—

‘I’m alive I’m alive I’m alive I’m alive I’m alive!’

All he could do was offer infinite thanks to the gods for still being alive.

Iron Blood Entertainment Headquarters.

Seo Ye-eun, who was preparing for her new song, was eating garlic during a short break.

The garlic that Kyu-seong gave her had become such an essential part of her life that she couldn’t live without it.

Not just because of its effects, but she felt like she was addicted to the taste.

Her manager spoke to her as she was enjoying it.

“Remember, today’s the day the commercial airs, right?”

“The commercial? Oh! You mean the one I shot with Ara.”

“You forgot, didn’t you?”

“Hehe. I’ve been so focused on preparing the new song that I forgot. Ara was in the drama today too, right?”

“Yeah. She’s in both the drama and the commercial, so it might stir up some buzz. Hopefully, the ratings will go up even more…”

Even while the manager was muttering, Seo Ye-eun was thinking about something else.

The conversation they had during the last commercial shoot came to mind, about filming a mukbang together.

Her garlic supply was running low too.

Maybe she could shamelessly ask to film a mukbang together and get some more garlic.

“Could I check my schedule for this week again?”

“Of course.”

Seo Ye-eun checked her schedule and found a small open window in her busy calendar with eagle eyes.

“Can I do something on this day?”

“Suddenly? What are you thinking?”

“During the last commercial shoot, Ara and I talked about doing a mukbang together. Is it okay if we do it then?”

“Hm, won’t you be too tired?”

“No, I’m fine.”

“Alright, I’ll contact Ara’s guardian and see if we can adjust the schedule.”

“Thank you.”

The manager started checking the schedule again, and Seo Ye-eun licked her lips.

She was more excited about the mukbang than any other event in her schedule.

* * *

We arrived at the Ara Hongryeon Guild.

And I could see my parents’ eyes widen as they came here for the first time.

“This building is huge.”

“Wow, our Kyu-seong works in a place like this…”

Although I belonged to the Ara Hongryeon Guild, I didn’t actually go to the office often, so I felt like I was deceiving them a bit.

At that moment, Ara, leading the way, shouted,

“I’ll be your guide!”

“Okay, okay, let’s see our Ara be the guide!”

My father, who rarely showed excitement, responded with a joyful expression.

He seemed pleased to visit his son’s workplace.

As we approached the building, one of the staff members who was always around recognized Ara and me.

“It’s been a while, Mr. Kyu-seong.”

“It has. Nice to see you again.”

“I’ve informed the guild leader. You can head straight up.”

“Thank you.”

Originally, I had planned to come alone, but when the guild leader overheard my family’s conversation over the phone, he kindly invited them all to come along.

As a result, we were now visiting the Ara Hongryeon Guild as a family.

“Wow, it’s really nice here,” my mother said, admiring the building’s interior.

Seeing her reaction, I recalled the first time I had visited Ara Hongryeon.

As we walked towards the elevator, numerous people recognized me and greeted me.

“Mr. Kyu-seong, you’re here!”

“Oh, look who it is! The national treasure, Lee Kyu-seong!”

“It’s been a while, Mr. Kyu-seong!”

Of course, many also greeted and showered Ara with affection.

Ara, who had forgotten about guiding our family, got caught up in excited greetings with familiar faces but soon came to her senses.

“I am guiding right now!”

“Hohoho, our Ara is good at guiding too, huh?”

“Yep!”

A passing awakened person found Ara cute and gave her a piece of candy. Ara stared at the candy with a serious expression but reluctantly accepted it.

“I can still guide while holding candy.”

“Of course, of course.”

Thanks to Ara’s exaggerated reaction, like she was accepting a bribe while on duty, laughter spread around us once again.

After exchanging greetings with people, we went up to meet the guild leader.

“Welcome,” Han Seok-jun greeted us warmly.

Since he had already met our family before, he greeted us with familiarity.

Although it was a bit awkward, my parents and Seon-ah also greeted Han Seok-jun.

“The staff will come to guide you through the guild. Is that alright?”

“Yes, of course.”

It seemed like he had arranged for a guild tour.

After chatting for a while, two guild members arrived to take my parents and Seon-ah on the tour.

“Ara, come with me.”

“Okay!”

Seon-ah tried to throw a fit, asking why she couldn’t come, but we ignored her and left with Han Seok-jun.

We were headed to the Monster Byproducts Research Lab, an annex building next to the Ara Hongryeon Guild headquarters.

“Chief Choi is there too.”

“Wow, it’s been a while.”

I felt glad when I heard that Young-seong was there. It had been a while since I last saw him.

Ara, also excited to see Young-seong after a long time, rubbed her hands together mischievously.

That adorable sight made me laugh again as we arrived at the research lab.

“Oh, Kyu-seong! Long time no see.”

“Hyung, it’s been a while.”

Young-seong looked bright, and next to him was his wife, Si-young.

“Oh, you’re here too! Hello, Si-young.”

“Hello, Kyu-seong. Ara, how are you?”

“Ah, I am fine,” Ara replied, suddenly flustered by Si-young’s presence, as she had planned to tease Young-seong. Ara always had a soft spot for Si-young.

Seeing Ara’s shy reaction, Si-young immediately lifted her into her arms.

“Ara, have you been well?”

“Yeah.”

“Cute Ara, give me a kiss.”

“Kiss, kiss,” Ara awkwardly kissed her cheek.

Though she used to get along with Si-young just fine, she seemed a bit shy after not seeing her for a while.

Watching that scene, I pulled out a bokkeum.

“Where should I lay out the byproducts?”

“Are they large?”

“Yes, I have some big ones.”

“Then follow me.”

We followed Young-seong, and soon a vast space filled with all kinds of monster byproducts appeared before us.

“Wow.”

The sight was breathtaking.

Ara, still in Si-young’s arms, pointed excitedly with her finger.

“What is that?”

“That’s a rib from an ogre monster.”

“Ogre!”

It felt like we were in a dinosaur museum, and the byproducts seemed almost like replicas.

“Alright, go ahead and lay it out here.”

“Okay.”

Following Young-seong’s instructions, I began taking out the byproducts. There was so much that I wondered if it was okay to bring out everything, but people’s eyes widened as I laid each item down.

“No way…”

“What on earth…?”

Their reactions were a bit different from what I expected, but I continued taking everything out.

Bones, skins, fangs, claws—they all emerged as I kept working, and suddenly, Young-seong stopped me urgently.

“Wait, how much have you brought out so far?”

“About half.”

“Hold on. Let’s stop for a moment.”

I paused and turned off bokkeum.

By now, Guild Leader Han Seok-jun and Si-young were examining the byproducts closely, exchanging opinions with each other.

“This material seems to have incredible strength.”

“We’ll have to test it, but it could make excellent equipment.”

“It must be from a monster that lived in a 9th-grade dungeon.”

“Look at this leather. No matter how hard I try, I can’t tear it.”

It seemed like they were satisfied with the items, which was a relief.

Ara, who had been quietly listening to their conversation, suddenly chimed in.

“Kyu-seong Kyu-seong has minerals too!”

“Minerals?”

At Ara’s words, I took out the minerals I had brought along.

I had once made protective gear with these minerals to safeguard Jeong So-yeon’s heart, and now I was curious about how much better equipment could be made when combined with these byproducts.

“Wasn’t it hard to mine that?”

“It’s been resolved recently.”

Young-seong recognized the minerals at a glance and examined them.

They had undergone the first stage of processing by goblins, so the minerals were already shaped into ingots.

“Oh, could this be what you mentioned before…?”

Han Seok-jun, who seemed to be seeing them for the first time, looked at the ingots with curiosity.

As I took out different types of ingots, I nodded.

“That’s right. I brought them along just in case. I was wondering if it would be possible to create equipment using these monster byproducts and minerals.”

“What do you think, Chief Choi?”

“Well, we’ll need to test various factors like mana conductivity and material fusion, but based on my estimation, I think it might be possible.”

I felt relieved at the positive reaction.

“If we can craft equipment through further research and experimentation, it would significantly enhance the guild’s power. With the amount of material available, most of the guild members would be able to wear it.”

Both Han Seok-jun and Si-young nodded in agreement at those words.

Round 210

Prev | TOC | Next

We came back after having a blast at the beach.

And we brought back a pile of seafood as well.

“This is so convenient.”

Looking at the portal that was gently swaying, it couldn’t get any better than this.

Once installed, anyone could use it semi-permanently.

Unlike the Glutton’s dungeon access, there was no need for a medium like a door, nor did it require a magic stone.

I wasn’t sure if more portals would be added, but I wanted to install them all over the dungeons in the future.

“Now, should we start salting the cabbage?”

We couldn’t make kimchi right away.

First, we had to salt the cabbage in brine.

It was known to take quite some time, though the exact time was something my mother would know.

As I busied myself after returning, Seon-ah looked at me with a tired expression.

“Oppa, let’s take a break.”

“But we’ve been resting this whole time.”

“We were busy cooking and cleaning up.”

“Don’t worry, I can handle it by myself. Salting cabbage isn’t a big deal.”

“What I’m saying is that you should rest too. Aren’t you tired?”

“Huh? Not at all?”

This girl underestimates awakened people.

I’ll have you know I’m a ‘level 2’ awakened person!

I have much better stamina and physical abilities than normal people.

‘Salting cabbage is something I can easily do alone.’

There’s really nothing difficult about it.

You just need to measure the amount right.

We had bought quite a lot of cabbage, about 100 heads, if I remember correctly.

Usually, a regular household wouldn’t make kimchi with 100 heads, but we aren’t exactly ordinary.

Honestly, this might not even be enough.

While everyone enjoyed a peaceful nap, I stripped the outer leaves from the cabbage and cut them in half.

I had already prepared the brine, so I immediately soaked the cabbage and sprinkled salt on them.

It was simple repetitive work.

After salting all 100 heads, I began preparing the seasoning.

In fact, I had already done a rough prep of the ingredients for the seasoning.

I ground all the prepared ingredients and mixed in the red pepper powder.

The red color of the sauce made my mouth water.

Then I added fish sauce and other sauces, followed by mixing in green onions and other vegetables, completing the kimchi filling.

“Wow, that’s a lot.”

But with 100 heads of cabbage, it wasn’t an excessive amount of seasoning.

After organizing everything neatly, I stepped outside and saw everyone fast asleep.

We did have a lot of fun.

We splashed in the water, fished, and gathered seafood at the beach…

‘Maybe it’s time to build a house for my parents.’

Thanks to the gnolls moving in, securing materials wasn’t going to be a problem.

Since the Gnoll village was a long-term project anyway, using some materials and manpower to build one house wouldn’t cause any major issues.

I’ll secretly build it and surprise my parents with it.

***

“It’s good. Not bad at all.”

HBS’s Wednesday-Thursday drama, *Between Our Steps*.

With six episodes aired so far, the results weren’t bad.

The PD checked the ratings but showed a slightly disappointed expression despite his words.

“It’s not bad, but it’s a bit disappointing that it didn’t blow up.”

“This is still a decent hit. Considering how tough the industry is right now, it’s performing the best among all shows in this quarter.”

“That’s why I said it’s not bad. Still, I was hoping for a big hit, but maybe that’s asking too much.”

Director Jeon Young-joo just smiled and ate his meat at the PD’s words.

“Oh, come to think of it, tomorrow’s the seventh episode, right?”

“That’s right.”

“Ara’s going to appear, isn’t she?”

“Oh! That’s right. I told her guardian I would contact them, but I’ve been so busy I completely forgot.”

“Hold on a second. I should send a quick message to Iron Blood Entertainment first.”

The PD.

The PD immediately took out his phone and typed rapidly.

After sending the message, he put his phone away again.

“I heard Ye-eun and Ara filmed a commercial together, and it’s coming out soon.”

“Wasn’t it supposed to air on the drama’s premiere day?”

“They probably delayed it a bit. Well, that’s out of our control…”

While a small dinner gathering was taking place at a restaurant in Yeouido.

Ara’s personal YouTube channel and fan cafe were buzzing with the news that she would appear in the drama soon.

And this wasn’t just happening in Korea.

It was already widely known that Ryu Cheon from the Skyscraper Guild was a fan of Ara.

Because of this, many of the Skyscraper Guild’s fandom naturally became interested in Ara’s daily life as well.

A Chinese distribution company and a corporation, noticing this trend, had just reached out to Iron Blood Entertainment and HBS.

The drama, which was doing decently well, was about to expand overseas.

***

After taking a nap, visiting the forest of Pururuk, and touring Gnoll Village, the day passed quickly.

The next day, we all gathered around to officially start making kimchi.

“Is it like this, like this?”

With clumsy hands, Ara stuffed kimchi filling into the cabbage.

Her actions were so adorable, but Mammon was fixing the roughly made kimchi beside her.

As expected from the skillful Mammon, he was the best at making kimchi here.

“So cute…”

“Yeah, yeah, take lots of pictures. They say all that’s left are photos and videos.”

Seon-ah, after helping for a bit, soon grabbed a camera and started filming the kids, not us.

Watching her, I suddenly asked, “Seon-ah.”

“What?”

“When will Ara’s show and commercial air?”

“Today.”

“Huh?”

Today?

I hadn’t expected that at all.

“I figured. Don’t worry, I remembered it.”

“I’ve been so busy lately that I completely forgot.”

Along with that, I felt a bit guilty.

Even though Ara only has one scene, I hadn’t watched the drama until now.

“It’s *Between Our Steps*, right? The one she’s in?”

“Mom knows about it too?”

“Of course. Seon-ah and I watch it every Wednesday and Thursday. There’s nothing else good on these days.”

“What time does it air?”

“Around 9 PM.”

In that case, I should go home today.

I have to watch Ara’s appearance!

Ara, completely focused on making kimchi, didn’t seem to hear our conversation.

By then, we had almost finished preparing kimchi for all 100 cabbages.

“It’s done!”

“Wow, great job, Ara.”

After finishing the last cabbage, we packed everything neatly into containers.

Kimchi for 100 heads of cabbage. Honestly, we managed to finish quickly thanks to Mammon.

He even suggested bringing other goblins to help, but that seemed like too much, so we decided to do it ourselves, and we pulled it off.

“Shall we have a taste?”

I tore off a piece of freshly made kimchi.

First, I gave some to my parents.

“Mmm! It’s sweet, sweet.”

“Sweet? Did I put too much sugar?”

“No, it means it’s delicious!”

I said something silly without thinking. Hehe.

I also gave a bite to Ara, Mammon, and Ras, who had worked hard.

But Mammon, unable to handle spicy food, stuck out his tongue and fanned himself.

-This is quite spicy!

Is it really that spicy?

I took a bite as well.

Crunch!

‘Ahh.’

It was delicious. A perfect “rice thief.”

There were no special ingredients, just the red pepper powder I made myself.

Yet, the flavor and umami of the peppers stood out in a way I hadn’t noticed before.

‘It’s not just spicy and salty; it has a deep flavor like a real dish.’

I wanted to heap it onto a bowl of white rice and devour it immediately.

Eating just the kimchi felt like torture.

My mouth filled with saliva as I unconsciously glanced at the rice stored in the warehouse.

-I’m not affected by the spice.

-Then why is your tongue sticking out?

-It’s just hot from all the work.

-You’re totally feeling the spice!

Hearing Mammon and Ras’ comments made me laugh.

It seemed like kimchi might be a bit much for those not used to spicy food.

However, Mammon, despite claiming the kimchi was too spicy, was eyeing it as if he wanted another bite.

“Why? Do you want more? You said it was spicy.”

-Well, for some reason, it’s strangely addictive. So, this is the taste of kimchi.

“Hehe. You’re becoming an honorary Korean. If you eat it with rice, the spiciness is balanced, and it tastes even better.”

-R-rice with kimchi?!

No way.

I can’t resist that.

And it wasn’t just me thinking this; my mother was already preparing to cook some rice.

“I can’t hold back any longer,” Seon-ah mumbled, clearly thinking the same thing as me.

In the end, we cooked some rice and quickly finished three bowls each, eating it with kimchi.

There were no other side dishes, just rice and kimchi.

-Eating it with rice makes it so much better! Is this the bapsim (the power of rice) you were talking about?

“Exactly. How does it feel? Do you feel energized?”

-It feels solid and good!

Even Ras, who also couldn’t handle spicy food well, managed to eat the kimchi with rice.

Of course, he was still panting and drinking water like crazy, though.

After finishing the kimjang (kimchi-making), we started thinking about the next time we’d have to make more.

Considering how many people there were, 100 heads of cabbage wasn’t enough.

‘I have to feed everyone too!’

The reason I had originally decided to plant soybeans and peppers was thanks to Brother Hanul’s request.

He had asked to try doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), and I wanted to perfect it by making gochujang (red pepper paste) as well.

‘I need to make gochujang too.’

Luckily, there was an empty jar, so I decided to store some gochujang in it.

Busy, busy.

“Shall we head out now?”

“Ara, let’s go!”

“Where are we going?”

Ara tilted her head at me and Seon-ah.

“The drama you filmed airs today.”

To be precise, today was the day Ara’s scene would be broadcast.

Upon hearing that she would be on TV, Ara’s eyes sparkled with excitement.

“I’m going to be on TV?!”

“That’s right. Today’s the day. Let’s go to my parents’ house and watch it together.”

“That’s great!”

Ara quickly dashed off somewhere.

I waited curiously to see what she was up to, and soon enough, she came back wearing a tiger onesie—or rather, her full-body armor of the Ho-wang (Tiger King).

“I’ll sleep in this at your parents’ house.”

“You’re planning to sleep over?”

“Sleep over?”

Ara tilted her head again.

Now that I thought about it, the drama airs at 9 PM, which is usually her bedtime.

Considering we’d have to watch the drama and then come back, it would make more sense for Ara to sleep over at my parents’ house.

“Why don’t you stay the night?”

My father chimed in from the side.

My mother and Seon-ah, already assuming she would stay, were hugging and cuddling Ara.

“Ara, you’ll sleep with your sister, right?”

“I’ll sleep with grandma!”

Caught between the two, Ara’s eyes spun in confusion before she shouted,

“I-I’ll sleep with both of you!”

“Oh, really? Then let’s all watch TV together in the living room and sleep there tonight.”

“Yes! That sounds great!”

There wasn’t much to pack.

All that was left was to escort the kids to the village.

As we stepped outside, it was still bright out.

It was 2 PM, so there was plenty of time left.

I excused myself from the family and called the guild.

Specifically, I contacted the guild master.

-Yes, Kyu-seong.

The guild master answered immediately.

“Guild Master! Hello. Are you busy right now?”

-No, I’m free. Is this about the monster byproducts you mentioned last time?

“Yes, that’s right.”

-Bring them over, and I’ll check them right away.

Good.

I’ll visit the guild before the drama airs.

‘The byproducts are from a rank 9 dungeon monster, so there shouldn’t be any issues, right?’

They weren’t magic stones, just leather, bones, and teeth, so nothing major should happen.

Probably.

Round 209

Prev | TOC | Next

Dungeon of Wrath.

The first assault is currently underway.

“Huff, huff. As expected from a rank 9 dungeon!”

“We need to return to the checkpoint and replenish supplies!”

The awakened members of the European Union, who had just fought a giant mantis, gulped down precious potions like water to recover their stamina.

“Reporting. Zero casualties. Total items used: 267. Of those, 258 were crop items.”

“You sure used a lot. But thanks to that, no one was injured.”

“It’s really remarkable. Despite being in the dungeon for two full days, we’ve set a record of zero casualties.”

The man listening to the report nodded while eating a potato. His hunger was instantly satisfied, saving him time.

“It seems wise to return to resupply. Is there enough at the current checkpoint?”

“I believe so. Other than Bravo Team resupplying once, there should be plenty left.”

“Good. Let’s go back.”

At the entrance to the dungeon, a modern building had already been erected—a resupply base right inside the dungeon itself.

The awakened, who called this point the checkpoint, returned to recharge their supplies.

“By the way, we still haven’t managed to defeat any monsters.”

“It’s unfortunate. Reducing their numbers would have helped in our assault.”

“I never imagined that massive creature would be able to fly.”

“Has any team successfully hunted a monster yet?”

“We’ll check at the checkpoint.”

Though there had been no casualties so far, no team had succeeded in hunting even a single monster.

As expected from a rank 9 dungeon.

The monsters, with their strong defenses and exceptional evasion, would flee to the sky or into lava whenever the situation turned unfavorable.

As a result, the first assault team had only managed to gradually expand their search area, with no significant progress.

If not for Kyu-seong’s crops, the damage would have been devastating, and they wouldn’t have even been able to extend their search area.

The strategists at the checkpoint were fully aware of this.

“The item consumption is higher than expected.”

“The monsters’ combat abilities exceed our predictions. The rank 9 dungeon is stronger than we thought.”

“Awakened Kyu-seong’s items are also performing far better than anticipated. Without them, we wouldn’t have even been able to continue the exploration.”

The analysts were hard at work.

And they thought to themselves:

Can we really defeat the dungeon’s boss at this rate?

Of course, with enough time and money, they could eventually clear it.

Humans are a tenacious species and will find a way no matter what.

But immense time and money?

They might need several times more than they were currently investing.

“At least three years.”

Someone thought.

It would take at least three years to capture the boss monster of the rank 9 dungeon.

Considering the difficulty they were having with the self-replicating monsters, the possibility of defeating the boss and its guards anytime soon seemed slim.

In the end, all they could do was…

‘More of Kyu-seong’s crops!’

They would have to rely on money and supplies to hold out.

Ssshhh-.

The soothing sound of waves tickled our ears.

And here we were, casually gathered around, watching some fishing.

Tatatatat!

“Oh, we caught another one!”

“A tasty fish indeed!”

Currently holding fishing rods were my father, Mammon, and Ras.

Ara had already tried once and graciously gave her rod to the other kids, which was very sweet of her.

–Groan.

A fish was hooked on Mammon’s line.

However, Mammon, despite his poison abilities, had the physical strength of an ordinary goblin.

It seemed like a challenge for him to reel in the fish, but we watched without concern.

‘As expected, poison really is overpowered.’

Mammon had even used poison as bait.

It served two purposes: attracting the fish and sapping their strength when consumed.

Father and Ras had refused to use Mammon’s poison, wanting to enjoy fishing for its own sake.

But for Mammon, who lacked strength, the poison was essential.

Rrrrrr.

Mammon began reeling in the fish he had caught.

Even though the fish wasn’t resisting, Mammon was sweating profusely as he turned the reel.

Dodo-do-do!

Ara quickly stood up, holding a net, ready to assist.

As the fish Mammon had caught came close enough to reach the net, Ara extended her arm.

“Got it!”

–Hoohoo! That’s the second one!

Mammon wiped his sweat away and exclaimed in satisfaction.

However, Frey, who had been playing with a seashell on my shoulder, spoke up.

–But Father has already caught three!

–I… I can catch three too!

Although Mammon and Frey looked different, their behavior was just like that of siblings.

As I watched their adorable interactions, Ras’s fishing rod finally showed some movement.

“Oh, will he catch one this time?”

Ras had missed several bites already, as he was too quick to react, being new to fishing.

Given his strength, it seemed like he could reel in a catch with ease if he hooked one, but…

As soon as I thought that, the fishing rod suddenly pulled taut.

“Got it!”

“Oh my, oh my.”

Seon-ah and my mother watched Ras’s fishing with tense expressions.

Finally, Ras pulled with all his might…

Crack!

“Huh?”

An ominous sound echoed in the air.

I immediately stood up and rushed over to Ras.

Flap-flap-flap!

The fish had flown high into the air and then fallen back down, but beside it lay the fishing rod, tragically broken.

“Ah…”

Ras silently stood, holding the half-broken rod, and Ara gasped in shock.

“Oh dear. Ras, you must have been startled, right? Don’t worry, we can always buy a new rod. But look at the size of the fish you caught! That’s impressive!”

I tried to console Ras, and he looked up at me. His big eyes were already welling up with tears.

“It’s okay, it’s okay. We can just buy another rod.”

Oh no.

It seemed Ras was really shaken up.

I quickly gestured to Seon-ah to come over.

“Oh my, who made our Ras feel this way?”

As soon as Seon-ah saw Ras’s expression, she immediately hugged him. Ras, now quietly held in her arms, mumbled softly.

–Am I… unable to fish?

His voice, teary and soft like a baby’s, tugged at my heart.

“No, no! Look, Ras, there’s the fish you caught, isn’t there?”

–But I broke the fishing rod.

“That happens to everyone at first! Right, oppa! Didn’t you also break a few rods?”

“Y-yes! When I first started, I broke more than 10 rods!”

I waved my hands wildly, trying to keep Ras from feeling sad.

Seeing this, Mammon, who was preparing bait, suddenly approached and handed Ras his fishing rod.

–Use this, Ras.

–You’re giving it to me?

–Yes. I’ve already caught two. Let’s take turns.

–Mammon, you truly are a good companion.

Watching the heartwarming scene made me smile.

Who raised these kids? Hehe.

“Ras! I’ll teach you how to fish!”

–Very well. Ara, I shall learn your fishing techniques.

“Okay!”

The little ones soon gathered again, preparing for more fishing. Watching them huddled together, chatting and attaching bait, was too cute.

“Look at those little heads. So round and adorable.”

Seon-ah had pulled out her camera again and was busily snapping photos.

–Great Lord.

“Hm?”

At that moment, Frey called to me.

–Shall we try making a fishing rod ourselves? Something strong enough to withstand Ras’s strength.

“Can we make something like that?”

–If we combine forces with the goblins, I’m sure it’s possible. A fishing rod made entirely from metal! An unbreakable rod!

Ah, a rod made solely for strength!

Since we all knew about Ras’s incredible strength, the weight of the rod didn’t matter at all.

What mattered was that it wouldn’t break.

If that’s the case, using metal and following Frey’s idea to make the rod out of a solid piece might just work.

‘With a little help from Kkumuris and gnolls, we could easily make a fishing rod or two.’

Thinking about it, everyone’s strength was coming together.

An epic item was about to be born.

“Whoa, whoa! Be careful! Be careful, I say!”

The coastline had become lively again as the kids cast their fishing rods.

Meanwhile, my father, entirely focused on fishing, was concentrating solely on the water.

“Kyu-seong, next time we should set up tents here and have a barbecue party.”

“Why not bring it all over now?”

“Now?”

“Yes. It’s right next door, isn’t it?”

I pointed at the portal.

It was literally just next door.

While the kids were fishing, we gathered the ingredients for a barbecue party.

The main ingredient was fish.

You might ask, why fish for a barbecue? Because calling it a “fish party” sounds a bit odd.

“Oh! I caught one!”

–Finally, I’ve reeled it in without breaking the fishing rod! Praise me!

The kids were excited, especially since this time Ras managed not to break the fishing rod.

Meanwhile, Seon-ah, my mother, and I were busy preparing for the meal.

We chopped vegetables, made sauces, and set everything up.

I was in charge of cleaning the fish.

The fish were so big that it took a while, but since I’d done it before, I was faster this time.

–Huh? Why am I only catching small ones?

“Hehe! Tiny little things!”

With the kids’ laughter as background music, I finished prepping the fish.

The prep work always takes the longest, so now all that was left was cooking.

“Here’s the new sauce I made. I couldn’t add gochujang (red pepper paste), though.”

“Ooh.”

Sauce and sashimi go hand in hand!

I looked at the fish Mammon had caught. It was the size of an arm—so big that calling it small was a joke considering how large the fish here were.

This one would be perfect for sashimi.

I quickly filleted the fish and cut thick slices of sashimi onto a plate.

At this point, I could really feel how much my cooking skills had improved.

‘Hehe.’

Alright, while the rest of the dishes cook, let’s try the sashimi first.

I smeared some sauce on the sashimi and brought it over to my father. He glanced at it cautiously but then popped a piece into his mouth.

“Mm! Good, good. Bring me more.”

He nodded in satisfaction, clearly enjoying it.

But I had other kids to attend to as well.

I left a few more pieces of sashimi and sauce by my father’s side, handed a piece to my mother, and then went over to the kids.

“So, who wants to try it first?”

“Me! Me!” Ara responded right away.

I picked up five pieces of sashimi, almost overflowing the chopsticks, and put them into Ara’s mouth.

Her cheeks puffed up, and her chewing face was so cute.

“Mm! Mmm!!”

“Tasty?”

“Mmm!!”

It seemed like it suited her taste.

Next, I gave Mammon and Ras two big pieces each, and they eagerly chewed as well.

–So this is what raw fish tastes like!

–Delicious. Especially the sauce on the fish.

Their reactions weren’t as dramatic as when they had grilled fish, but that’s okay. The grilled fish my mother was cooking would be ready soon anyway.

“Maybe I’ll try a piece too.”

I dipped the sashimi into the sauce again, added a slice of chili from the sauce, and popped it into my mouth.

Ahh, this is the taste.

It was the kind of flavor that any sashimi lover would applaud with delight.

I’m not a fan of alcohol, but if I were, I’d be calling for soju right about now.

‘The texture is firm and bouncy, with a deep umami flavor. When combined with the sauce, it just explodes in your mouth.’

The fish itself was rich and fatty.

The sauce perfectly cut through the greasiness, adding a salty, spicy punch that made the flavor outstanding.

Soon enough, my mother had finished grilling the fish and preparing the braised fish.

With the freshly cooked rice we made, we had an absolute feast on our hands.

“Gulp.”

“Sss.”

Both Ara and I simultaneously swallowed, taking in the aroma of the freshly cooked rice.

“There’s plenty of rice, so don’t hold back. Eat as much as you want.”

Moved by my mother’s words, Ara shouted with wide, grateful eyes.

“As expected, the Great Lord’s mother is the best!”

“Oh my, our Ara speaks so sweetly.”

Ara, what about me?

Alon stood elegantly atop the frozen sea of blood, letting out a light sigh.

“It’s finally over.”

Looking around, Alon saw the endless tundra expanding from where he stood.

Of course, the continuous creation of this frozen land wasn’t Alon’s doing alone; it was thanks to Penia, who had fulfilled his request.

“…So, this is how far we’ve come.”

On the ship, Alon’s harsh winter had rapidly frozen the surrounding sea, but Penia only showed a slightly strained expression as she maintained her efforts. Alon’s brief admiration for her was short-lived.

His gaze shifted toward Tertogan, standing on a deck soaked in the pirates’ blood.

Crunch, crunch~!

Moments ago, Tertogan had still been in human form, but now he no longer existed in that shape. What was left was a green egg, secreting a strange fluid, with Tertogan’s hand atop it. And above that hand was a bizarre object.

Despite this seemingly simple situation, Alon couldn’t help but harden his expression. He knew the nature of the egg.

Crack!

The unpleasant sound broke out as Alon raised his arm, sensing the presence.

As he turned his gaze, he saw the merfolk, who had been lurking below the surface trying to sink the ship, now climbing up onto the ice one by one. In an instant, their numbers grew from dozens to hundreds.

At that moment, Alon clicked his tongue lightly.

Crunch, crunch~!

The merfolk climbing onto the ice were quickly shattered.

“Brother!”

Radan appeared, erupting from the sea. Without hesitation, he not only crushed the merfolk rushing toward Alon but also—

“Hah!”

He stomped on the ice.

Crash!

Radan’s foot pierced through the ice, reaching the seawater beneath. And then—

Roaaaarrrrr~!!!!!

The frozen sea transformed into an icy ocean, a massive wave bursting forth with a deafening roar that swept away all the merfolk charging toward Alon.

“Hah!”

It didn’t end there. Radan immediately plunged his spear into the center of the sea.

Rumble~!!

A massive whirlpool formed in an instant, sucking in the swept-away merfolk and the sunken ships. Despite their deep familiarity with the sea, the merfolk were helpless in the overwhelming current, mixed with the wreckage of the sunken ships. The whirlpool quickly turned red.

“Ah, truly……!”

“The boss is on another level……!”

Hope spread among the pirates.

“…This is unbelievable.”

“Indeed.”

“Hah, I wonder if we can actually win.”

Even the Pirate Lords were filled with unspeakable awe.

Radan’s divine might was so remarkable that it was hard to believe it was the feat of a single man.

But it was only momentary.

Growl~!

At the sound, all eyes turned to the central deck of the Sea Wolves.

The hand that had been reaching up from the green egg had vanished without a trace.

And then—

Crunch, crunch, crunch!!!

From the small egg emerged an impossibly large hand.

Everyone stared blankly at the hand.

Covered in green scales and fluid, the hand blocked the sunset’s rays that had been shining on the pirates, as if extinguishing hope. It pulsated as if alive, bringing not hope but fear to the pirates.

It then struck the whirlpool.

BOOOOM-!!

The whirlpool that had been sucking in everything suddenly disappeared with a thunderous roar.

Then, from the small egg, it emerged.

CRACK!

The hand that had dispelled the whirlpool rested on one of the Sea Wolves ships, while another hand emerged, grabbing onto a different ship.

A giant appeared from the small egg.

It was a grotesque and terrifying sight that devoured the hope of everyone present.

The massive merman’s head, emerging from the egg after its arms, took away all remaining hope.

Its body, so large that it could treat ships like toys, inspired only dread.

It crushed the ship the egg had been on and blocked the sun, plunging the area into darkness.

“Ah—”

It descended.

###

Its size was overwhelming.

Moreover, the tremendous power emanating from its massive form was beyond comprehension.

BOOOOM-!!

The creature, showing only its upper body above the sea, moved its hand slowly, pressing down on a ship.

Sprays of water burst forth, yet not a single scream was heard.

Without even time to gasp at the sight of the ship shattering into pieces—

CRAAAASH!

A single sweep of its gigantic hand from left to right shattered more than ten ships.

The chilling strength derived from its overwhelming size was staggering.

But that was not all.

“Damn it!”

The mermen, who had been standing still as if worshipping the giant’s birth, resumed their movements, throwing the pirates into a sudden panic.

‘What in the world is this?’

Radan, too, furrowed his brow as he stared at the colossal giant against the backdrop of the setting sun.

“Radan.”

Amidst the chaos, he heard a voice—emotionless and indifferent—belonging to Alon.

“Take care of the mermen.”

And in that moment, Radan, with a blank expression, replied,

“Yes, Brother.”

With that, he retrieved the trident that had been pulled into the sea.

Alon, having confirmed the mermen climbing from all directions, looked at the giant, which was slowly lifting its massive hand.

“Hah.”

Alon let out a low sigh as he surveyed the situation.

To say things were favorable would have been a lie.

Even though Radan and the Pirate Lords were killing mermen relentlessly, their numbers showed no signs of decreasing.

The mermen kept coming, killing the pirates, while the giant’s hand rose once again, ready to unleash despair upon them.

But even in this dire situation, Alon did not entertain thoughts of defeat.

In fact, he felt relieved, believing this wasn’t the worst-case scenario.

After all, the creature before him was not an Outer God.

‘Technically, it’s just a byproduct.’

With the Eyes of Truth, Alon could see through all things, perceiving even the potential of drowning anyone, regardless of water presence—a fraudulent power of the Outer God, Kalak-Kul. When Kalak-Kul descends, disaster begins.

However, the being before him, “Galgik,” was not an Outer God.

It was merely a byproduct containing the reincarnation of the Outer God, a guardian that protected Kalak-Kul until its full descent.

At this point, eliminating it would prevent the Outer God’s descent.

Thus, Alon spoke without hesitation.

“Array of Thunder.”

The conditions had been met.

CRACKLE!

Blue sparks spread rapidly across the frozen sea of blood.

“Decomposition.”

At his command, the sparks fragmented into tiny particles, scattering everywhere.

In the darkness that veiled the sunset, the glowing blue particles—

“Dissolution.”

—were absorbed into Alon’s unsteady body.

Simultaneously, Alon’s form began to glow a radiant blue.

By the time Galgik had raised its hand to crush dozens of ships—

!

With an incomprehensible, eerie roar, it swung its hand down toward Alon’s head, as if instinctively trying to eliminate a threat.

RUMBLE~!!!

The massive crashing sound felt like it was pressing down on the entire sea.

“Cycle of All Things.”

Even in that moment, Alon, forming a seal with his index and middle fingers, uttered—

“Form of the Thunder God.”

As soon as he spoke the final word—

CRACKLE!!!

He became lightning.

Tssss-!

He surged forward with blinding speed.

BOOOM!!!

The frozen sea where Alon had stood shattered as if struck by an explosion, and Alon shot straight at Galgik.

He aimed at Galgik’s exposed heart.

He instinctively realized that simply charging forward wouldn’t be enough to pierce Galgik’s outer shell.

Yet he pressed forward without hesitation, thanks to one of the relics recently appraised by the Arbiter—the “Insignia of the Blind One.”

The artifact’s effect allowed him to bypass a single limitation he had previously set upon himself.

This allowed Alon to break free from the restrictions that had weakened his magic.

In this case, the restriction that could alter the world’s laws to allow magical combat against the Great Duel God, Ulthultus.

There was another reason for his confidence: Alon had mastered the usage of the Form of the Thunder God.

As the blue lightning launched towards Galgik, it shifted from human form.

At the focal point of the magic’s array, Alon twisted his body, reshaping it into a spiral—a clear spiral visible to anyone watching.

CRACKLE~!!!

The spiral lit up the darkness that Galgik had cast over the world, dividing reality itself as it shot forth.

Tsss-!

With a faint sound, blue sparks engulfed the world.

###

Once the blue sparks faded, a massive hole appeared in Galgik’s heart.

And through that enormous hole, Count Palatio came into view, filling everyone’s sight.

“……Hah.”

They were all left speechless, unable to take their eyes off a single person.

Alon, standing atop the shattered ship and the focus of everyone’s gaze, thought,

‘Don’t just watch; help me……!’

The situation was filled with urgency.

The deck beneath Alon’s feet was slowly sinking.

Though it wasn’t obvious, the deck he stood on was gradually descending below the water.

The reason Alon remained silent on the collapsing deck was due to the strain of using the Form of the Thunder God.

‘I thought I’d gotten better at this.’

Unlike before, he hadn’t made a significant mistake this time.

Thanks to extensive research and training, he had refined his mastery of the Form of the Thunder God.

Aside from a few small cuts on his arms and legs, he was fine.

The problem was mana.

‘I didn’t expect the Form of the Thunder God to consume such an absurd amount of mana just by moving the array.’

Though he had anticipated this during his research, the mana consumption was truly beyond belief.

During his first use of the Form of the Thunder God at Colony, his mana had been depleted, but he had still been able to walk.

Now, Alon experienced physical rigidity, a symptom of mana exhaustion, just from altering the magic’s array.

As a result, he couldn’t move or speak as he sank along with the ship.

‘I can’t swim!’

As he let out a silent scream, unable to utter a word—

BOOM!

The previously calm sea suddenly erupted with green scales.

CRACK!

Before he could react, the scales grabbed Radan, dragging him into the depths.

Alon lost the chance to think.

Seeing Radan being pulled away before his eyes, Alon threw himself off the deck and into the sea.

At least, that’s how it appeared to the pirates.

In reality, the green scales had simply swiped the deck Alon had been standing on.

As he plunged into the sea, Alon frowned.

Fortunately, the rigidity caused by mana exhaustion was slowly subsiding, making it likely that he would reach the surface before suffocating.

The real issue, however, was the massive eye staring at him.

‘Kalak-Kul?!’

Alon was horrified.

Despite it still being twilight above the sea, the depths felt as dark as the abyss.

Amidst that darkness was the enormous eye.

It was the same eye he had seen many times in the game—the eye that drowned all who met its gaze.

‘The manifestation shouldn’t have happened yet~!’

He was confused.

From what he knew, the Outer God’s manifestation shouldn’t have occurred once Galgik was killed.

And yet, the Outer God had descended.

It was looking directly at him.

From the deep, pitch-black depths below— Silent and unwavering.
