Round 184

Snooze, snooze…

When we returned to the dungeon, we saw Frey still sleeping on top of Woofy’s belly. As a result, Woofy couldn’t do anything but continue chewing on its toy bone.

“Frey is still sleeping, huh?”

“Frey is quite the sleepyhead.”

The other fairies who had enjoyed the hot springs with us and followed us here had all left at some point, leaving Frey alone, peacefully asleep. Whether it was cute or just silly, it was hard to tell…

Not wanting to wake her up, I waited quietly beside her until Frey started to stir and wake up.

“Just a little more…”

Even though no one had woken her, Frey mumbled in her sleep. Eventually, she groggily opened her eyes, still half-asleep.

“Where am I? Who am I?”

“Did you sleep well, Frey?”

“Oh, Grand Lord…”

Upon seeing me, Frey tried to respond but quickly started nodding off again. Ara, seeing this, lay down next to Frey.

“Huh? Lord Ara?”

“Frey, it’s time to wake up.”

“Huh? Just a moment…”

Still not fully awake, Frey quickly checked her surroundings and then, startled, got up in a hurry.

“This isn’t a dream?!”

“It’s not a dream!”

Frey, now fully awake, flapped her wings energetically. However, it seemed she was still too sleepy to fly properly, as she wobbled in the air. Seeing this, Ara quickly grabbed Frey and placed her on her head.

“How does that feel?”

“Thank you so much!”

Now more awake, Frey looked at me and Seon-ah with an embarrassed expression and scratched her head.

“I’m so sorry. I got too comfortable and ended up being rude. My apologies. Hehe.”

“It’s okay. But I have to admit, Woofy is so soft and warm, it felt really nice to sleep on.”

I felt a little bad for Woofy, but it really was comfortable. I had a feeling I might be using him as a pillow more often in the future.

“Frey, I’m sorry to ask this right after you’ve woken up, but you mentioned something about the World Tree before going to sleep. Can we go check on that now?”

“Of course! Let’s go right away!”

Unlike Ara, Frey became fully alert as soon as she woke up.

Soon, we mounted Purr and Woofy and headed straight for the World Tree.

When we arrived at the village, Frey flew up and placed her hands on the World Tree, closing her eyes.

“Ah, ah. Can you hear me?”

Frey’s tone changed, becoming more formal. Although we couldn’t hear any sound, the rustling leaves made it seem as if the tree was responding.

“Oooh.”

Impressed by the scene, I noticed that Frey’s wings seemed to flap even more energetically.

“I have brought the Grand Lord. Now, greet him.”

Swaaash—

Several leaves fluttered down from the tree. Given the size of the tree, each leaf was about the size of Ara’s face.

“Is this the tree’s way of greeting us?”

“That’s correct, Grand Lord. Ah, the World Tree has something it wants to ask you.”

“Oh? Go ahead.”

Communicating with a tree was a first for me. Life really does have its surprises.

“The tree has formed a bud, but it’s struggling to bloom on its own. Could you possibly help?”

“Oh, is that what the World Tree is saying?”

“Yes, that’s the general idea.”

A flower, huh? Frey had been eager to see the tree bloom, but it seemed it wasn’t going to be easy.

“How can I help?”

“This place is the Dungeon of Gluttony, a place like the origin of slimes. And as someone who grew up here, I too have been influenced by them.”

“Mmm.”

“Most slimes are good at taking care of plants, but we need a particularly skilled slime. We need the abilities of that slime.”

“Oh, do you mean Mark2?”

Mark2 was currently managing the Slime Village, the Meluca Flower Field, and the Goblin Village. He was essentially in charge of all the farms in the dungeon. He had a lot on his plate.

“I wonder where Mark2 is right now.”

“It so happens he’s at the Meluca Flower Field!”

“Oh, really?”

He’s close by. That’s convenient. I told the others to wait for a bit, and then quickly rode Purr to the Meluca Flower Field.

“Wow, it’s already grown so much!”

The flower field was filled with lush, green Meluca plants. Although they were still young and had not yet formed buds, there were so many of them that it was quite a sight to behold.

And then, we saw a few slimes and Mark2 leisurely passing through.

“Mark2!”

Squirm!

Mark2 happily greeted me as he approached. He then eagerly crawled towards me and proudly lifted his head.

“Wow, Mark2, you’ve worked really hard. You’ve been through a lot.”

Squirm-

Mark2 looked a bit embarrassed, as if to say it was nothing, and it made him look even more adorable than usual.

“Mark2, do you have some time right now?”

Squirm!

“It seems like the World Tree is looking for you.”

Mark2 nodded enthusiastically, and I couldn’t help but chuckle as I picked him up.

“Let’s go!”

Hiiing.

Squirm!

We waved goodbye to the other slimes and headed back to the fairy village.

“You’ve come, Mark2.”

Ara greeted Mark2 with a solemn expression. Mark2 also lifted his head confidently and greeted Ara.

Squirm!

“Indeed, Mark2 was the one we needed.”

Wobble-?

“I believe Mark2 will do a great job!”

What are they talking about?

While the cute little ones were having their serious conversation, I attempted to communicate with the World Tree again through Frey.

“I’ve brought Mark2.”

“The World Tree is asking if you can attach Apostle Mark2 to it.”

“Attach him?”

Not entirely sure what it meant, I lifted Mark2 and brought him close to the World Tree. Then, Mark2 began to wiggle and do something.

“Huh? Mark2?”

His movements didn’t look normal, and a memory flashed in my mind.

It reminded me of when Poispois absorbed Mammon’s poison. Poispois had exhibited strange behavior at that time, and there was an indication on his status screen that said he was ‘awakening an unknown potential.’

“Hey, is Mark2 going to be okay?”

“Well, let’s wait and see.”

I wasn’t too worried. If it was something dangerous, we would have been warned beforehand.

And just as I expected, Mark2 soon calmed down and tilted his head.

Squirm?

As if nothing had happened.

[Mark2 (Slime) LV.5]

[A peculiar slime]

[He is Lee Kyu-seong’s familiar]

[Capable of liquid synthesis]

[Currently awakening an unknown potential]

[Ability: Farming LV.5]

“Oh, just as I thought.”

When I checked, a new line saying ‘awakening an unknown potential’ had been added, just like with Poispois.

I was curious, though—how long would this ‘awakening’ take? Even with Poispois, after absorbing Mammon’s poison, there hadn’t been any noticeable changes for a long time.

“Is synthesis the answer…?”

Level 6.

Maybe it’s time to level up.

Even while working hard, I’ve been using liquid synthesis and slime summoning compulsively. Especially with liquid synthesis, since there hasn’t been much need for fruit juice lately, I’ve been investing more into synthesizing slimes.

Thanks to that, if I wanted, I could easily raise a Level 5 slime to Level 6 within a few days.

There was also a quest to create five Level 5 slimes, so it seemed like a good opportunity to complete that as well.

‘But this wasn’t the main reason for bringing Mark2 here.’

I waited for the World Tree’s response.

With his eyes closed, Frey was communicating with the World Tree in a mysterious manner.

Wasn’t Mark2 supposed to help the tree bloom?

“It’s done, Grand Lord.”

“Huh? Done? What is?”

“The World Tree has left a seed with Apostle Mark2. Now, Mark2 has the potential to become the World Tree’s slime.”

“Oh?! Really?”

Wow, so that’s what the ‘unknown potential’ was about? It sounded quite impressive. A slime of the World Tree…

“In the future, as Apostle Mark2 grows, he will naturally gain extensive knowledge about the World Tree.”

“I see. Then I should synthesize him to level him up.”

To help the World Tree bloom, Mark2 would need to be synthesized. It’s a win-win situation.

After dropping Frey off in the village, I returned to the Slime Village. There was no time to waste; I still had some liquid synthesis to do today.

“Level 4 slimes, gather up!”

I called the slimes to gather. The ones who were playing enthusiastically came squirming over in response to my call.

“Why are you guys here? Not that it matters.”

Hehe.

When I called for the slimes, a bunch of squirming slimes tagged along, just like a “buy one, get one free” deal. This sight made Ara and Seon-ah burst into laughter. While I watched the adorable scene, the slimes I had been waiting for gathered.

There were currently 13 Level 4 slimes—a considerable number. If you’re wondering why I hadn’t upgraded them to Level 5 yet, it was because I was hesitant. After all, once they reach Level 5, it feels a bit wasteful to synthesize them.

“Raise your hand!”

“Alright, who wants to be the first to reach Level 5?”

Squirm!

Wobble-wobble~!

Squuuirm!!

Chaos ensued as all the slimes eagerly presented their nonexistent hands and feet, each wanting to be the one to level up. As I found myself in a dilemma, Ara stepped in to organize the situation.

“First come, first served!”

Squirm!

A slime that happened to be closest to Ara quickly stepped forward. Another one followed suit, and just like that, the decision was made in an instant.

“Alright, you two will become Level 5 first, and the rest will have their turn later. Just wait a little longer.”

Not only Mark2, but also Poispois and Bokkeum needed to be upgraded to Level 6. Plus, if I happened to get a useful Level 5 slime, it would be a waste to use it for synthesis just to make a Level 6 slime.

In the end, slime synthesis would have to continue without pause.

“These ones are Gale Slime and Ultrasonic Slime.”

The Gale Slime can blow wind from its mouth and is relatively fast. The Ultrasonic Slime emits ultrasonic waves, but to be honest, I wasn’t sure what use that would be.

“Liquid Synthesis!”

When I synthesized the two, they squirmed and merged into one. Soon after, the new form started taking shape, and a choice appeared before me.

[Choose an ability to inherit.]

[Gale]

[Ultrasonic]

Hmm, I suppose Gale would be the better choice. Although it didn’t really matter since this slime was going to become Mark2 anyway. Just in case, I selected Gale, and soon a green slime with a pair of small wing-like decorations on its head was born.

[Gale (Slime) LV.5]

[A peculiar slime. He is Lee Kyu-seong’s familiar]

[Capable of liquid synthesis]

[Ability: Gale LV.4, Solar Power LV.1]

Oh, it gained a new ability this time too. Solar Power? What kind of ability is that?

“Gale, what’s Solar Power?”

Squirm.

As soon as I asked, Gale struck a pose and started emitting light.

Oh? Could this be…

“…Perfect for growing peppers.”

I never expected to gain such an ability. While I was already using machinery to grow peppers, having Gale around would make the process much smoother. Moreover, the machine uses magic stones, and while it’s worth using given the value of the peppers, it’s better to avoid it if possible.

‘Well, I was planning for this slime to become Mark2, but things turned out differently.’

Synthesis, or rather, slime fusion, is always unpredictable and exciting.

So it seems I’ll need to create a new Level 5 slime to reach Mark2’s Level 60.

[Quest Completed]

[Awakening Quest: Foster Growth]

[Grow your slimes]

[Level 5 or higher slimes: 5/5]

At the same time, the Awakening Quest for the Slime Grand Lord was also completed.

The courtroom was filled with nothing but silence.

While the silence that accompanied the Minister of Administration’s speech before could have implied some sort of covert agreement or assurance, this time, it was clear that the silence stemmed purely from confusion.

And rightfully so—who in their right mind would utter such outrageous words to a member of the royal family?

What truly surprised them was that the prince who heard these words was not showing any particular reaction.

He simply sat still, slowly lifting his closed eyes, gazing blankly at his opponent without a trace of emotion.

“It’s lèse-majesté, Aiden,” he began in a soft voice, still well within the expected response.

“Think carefully about whether you have the resolve to take responsibility for your actions.”

However, there was an eerie chill in his voice that was enough to momentarily halt even Aiden’s movements.

“You are free to obstruct and oppose my will. But do not insult me. Do not insult the imperial authority. For that is tantamount to insulting the empire and its citizens, which I bear.”

“……”

“As the next ruler, my personal treatment is tied to the dignity of the empire. Do not forget that.”

Each sentence carried a sense of pride and conviction in representing the empire, not himself.

It was unmistakably a warning.

If negotiations were to be had, they should be carried out discreetly, not through scandalous and aggressive means that disrupt the imperial system in such a manner.

It was a line drawn to ensure ‘peaceful conflict,’ just as it currently stood—a line not to be crossed any further.

His words implied that if Aiden chose to act aggressively, the prince would be forced to respond in kind.

“Righteousness, propriety, integrity. A monarch. A patriot.”

Aiden silently scoffed as he mulled over the keywords he used to describe the prince in the original story.

What a gentlemanly warning this was.

For someone who uses dirty tactics, he had an oddly honest streak.

The prince’s next words confirmed this impression.

He closed his mouth, then softly whispered in a voice audible only to Aiden.

“I respect you. Not just you, but every member of the empire.”

“……”

“So, please, don’t force my hand. Let me be able to return you safely to your original life once all of this is over. What I desire is not your ruin, but the seat of the groom of the Lionheart’s. So don’t go any further. Let me continue to respect you.”

‘…How saintly.’

What refined hostility.

“I will hear the rebuttal to the Minister’s accusation later. Now, return to your seat,” the prince declared.

“False accusation is a serious offense under imperial law. Even the royal family is not exempt.”

The problem was…

Aiden had no intention of getting drawn into the prince’s carefully orchestrated scheme.

“…What are you trying to say?”

“It means that it’s not you, but I who am giving the warning, Your Highness.”

“……”

“Stop these petty disputes before I return them double-fold.”

This time, a hint of movement crossed the prince’s previously expressionless face.

Aiden, after a brief silence, opened his mouth with a faint growl.

“Aiden Kellerman, groom of the Lionheart’s heir, accuses the prince of falsely incriminating Lady Noel.”

He spoke clearly enough for everyone in the courtroom to hear.

– It was a bombshell declaration that froze the courtroom even more than before.

And then—

Rad and the prince’s faces hardened, having immediately grasped the meaning of Aiden’s words.

It was an outright declaration of war, signaling that he had the confidence to see it through.

Of course, it’s a move only a madman would make. If it fails, you’d have to immediately forfeit your life. Defying the royal family to such an extent carries that kind of weight.

But precisely because of that, Aiden’s statement at this moment holds both impact and truth. It’s enough to neutralize the attack meant to spread rumors and tarnish her reputation.

The “social attack” they launched against Noel here has now lost all meaning because of Aiden’s action.

‘That bastard…!’ Rad ground his teeth internally as he glared at Aiden, while a voice once again broke the silence in the courtroom.

“Schedule a separate trial. I’ll expose everything there.”

“……”

“Earlier, you asked me if I had the resolve to take responsibility for my actions, didn’t you?”

Aiden spoke while meeting the prince’s hardened eyes directly.

“Have you checked whether you have the same confidence yourself?”

***

That was just yesterday. Aiden had staked his life in a brawl with the prince.

“…Wow.”

Katia, walking beside him, let out a murmur of admiration as she flipped through the newspaper in her hand.

She had picked newspapers from various media outlets, but the headlines were the same regardless of the publication.

It was about Aiden’s stunt in the courtroom the previous day.

“Amazing. The whole empire is watching.”

“Thankfully, my story got cut off, though.”

It was probably thanks to Noel—and perhaps even connections to the emperor—that his personal matters were cut from the news. Somehow, he managed to avoid becoming overwhelmingly famous.

It’s fortunate that, while newspapers and TV exist, the internet does not. It’s how his privacy remains intact, for now…

…Well, putting that aside.

Aiden sighed inwardly and pulled up the system window in front of him.

– Quest Info

The events listed in this section carry massive penalties if failed!

Sham Marriage (Important!)

▶ You have been chosen as Lady Noel’s spouse. Maintain your contract with your partner until the end!

▶ A related event is about to occur. (D-?)

▶ This is a critical event, carrying “main quest-level” importance!

Completing it will drastically change your relationship with the target!

This update followed the incident from yesterday. While the timing for the “subjugation mission” listed under the main quest has yet to be revealed, at least this much has been updated.

It’s likely moving forward in sync with the previous one, similar to the mission with the Protector.

The phrase that’s concerning is the one about the relationship “changing drastically.”

Previously, when Katia had such a label, she’d been growling like she was ready to eat him alive, but now they call each other friends. Compared to before, it certainly qualifies as a drastic change.

The problem is…

Isn’t Lady Noel already incredibly friendly toward him?

In fact, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say she’s overly protective.

He gets that she feels responsible for bringing him into this position, but sometimes it’s almost enough to make even her flinch.

If this relationship were to “drastically change,” it would undoubtedly take another leap toward greater friendliness. But what should he do then…?

Honestly, it’s a bit worrying.

Even yesterday, right after the incident, it was clear…

…He got scolded pretty badly.

The moment they returned to the office, Noel had sat him down and berated him for hours.

– How are you planning to handle the aftermath? If you keep acting this way, anything could happen. As someone who wants to see you safely return to your family’s arms, it’s really troubling…

The sincerity of her anger, born out of genuine concern, was so palpable that he couldn’t even utter a word in response.

– Thank you.

Come to think of it, didn’t she leave him with those words at the end?

– You did it for me, after all. I never imagined you’d go that far.

With that, Noel had retreated to her room, almost as if fleeing.

She left behind words to let him know if he ever needed help.

‘Hmm.’

…Her face was bright red, too.

He’d heard her thank him once when she was drunk, but it was the first time hearing it from her while she was sober.

And, to be honest…

While he appreciated her offer to help, she couldn’t be brought along for this one.

“Why?”

“Because what I’m about to do can only be done by Katia.”

At his words, Katia, who had been matching his stride with quick steps, flashed a grin.

“Something only friends can do together, huh?”

“Yes, something like that,” he agreed, finding no reason to deny it.

Katia, with her robe pulled low over her face, chuckled as she clung to Aiden’s side, wrapping an arm around his as if to claim it for herself.

Is this really the distance typical of friendship?

Naturally, the question arose in his mind.

Well. He’d always thought this person had issues defining relationships, but sometimes even he was unsure what the term “friend” meant to her.

More precisely, he wasn’t sure what she thought of him.

It clearly wasn’t romantic affection, nor was it ordinary friendship, so what exactly was it…?

…Anyway.

The matter of Katia’s clinginess was something to ponder over time.

But there was something else that needed immediate attention.

‘The current objective is…?’

The goal is to reveal that the prince is attacking Noel through incitement, and it must be done in three stages: proving that the unauthorized import of weapons into the capital is unrelated to Noel, proving that the assault on the military headquarters is also not linked to her, and finally…

Fortunately, both of the first two goals can be rapidly approached with a single action.

There’s only one thing that needs to be found: the “operational organization” that serves as the common factor behind all three incidents.

He had received hints about it before.

– If it’s hidden well enough that I can’t find it, then the backer must be a high-ranking noble at the very least. You want me to dig up information about them? Do you want someone to lose their head?

He remembered Billy Hagan saying that when he asked him to investigate who was smuggling weapons into the capital. For even a competent informant like him to step back, it means there’s a “backing organization” behind all this.

The weapons smuggled in, including Hellbombs, the restraint cuffs used to kidnap Katia, and the Root 00 needed to create dimensional rifts—none of these are easily obtained through normal channels. So, the likelihood of an organization managing these operations is very high.

If such an organization exists, they would likely have ample evidence of being commissioned by the prince and the Minister of Administration.

At least, that’s the natural course of illegal affairs that Aiden has witnessed while working as a con artist.

“Oh, so you’re here to track down the pawns?”

Upon hearing this, Katia nodded as if she understood.

Even though she’s a royal who’s often out of the public eye, she’s still someone who lived within the intrigue-filled palace. She seems to know exactly how these things work.

Smuggling such items discreetly into the capital must be done swiftly and with a minimum of elite personnel.

Risky and covert missions require the fewest but most capable individuals.

The place Aiden was currently walking through could be described as the natural habitat of such people.

‘…Here we are again.’

The capital’s black market.

It’s the perfect place to start the investigation.

A den of crime, a zone beyond the law, and a place overflowing with near-unlimited information.

There was almost a sense of familiarity to it.

Thinking back, wasn’t this the place where he first met Katia?

“So, how do you plan to find these people? Even if they’re somewhere around here, you don’t have any information right now.”

“It’s like finding a needle in a haystack.”

If even the informants couldn’t gather information, it’s no wonder that these people are so thoroughly concealed. The analogy couldn’t be more fitting.

“So…”

Aiden let out a faint chuckle as he replied.

The method he had in mind was ridiculous, even to him.

“-Why not clear out all the hay? The needle will fall out eventually.”

For some reason, he feels bolder whenever he’s with Katia.

Maybe it’s because he’s catching the habit of seeking the strongest stimulation first, wanting to “feel” everything.

“What do you mean?”

When Katia tilted her head in confusion and asked, Aiden answered as if it were nothing special.

“Hasn’t life been a little dull lately?”

The moment she heard that, a mischievous grin spread across Katia’s face.

“…I knew I made the right choice becoming friends with you.”

It wasn’t hard to guess—he was clearly about to propose something extremely “stimulating.”

Round 183

Originally, Ryu Cheon didn’t plan on staying the night, but after much deliberation, she decided to spend the night in the Dungeon of Gluttony with the kids.

“Hehe.”

“Snore.”

“You’re already asleep.”

After finishing up at the hot spring, they had dinner and saw Jae-seong off. Only Seon-ah, Ara, and Ryu Cheon were left behind. When they returned after saying goodbye, they found everyone cuddled up and asleep. Out of all the places, they chose to sleep huddled together on an outdoor mat.

“Well, I guess it would be warm.”

The Kkumuris, the slimes, and all the other familiars, along with Seon-ah and Ryu Cheon, had Ara nestled in the middle, each holding Gomgom and Soo. Woofy had grown large enough to act as a bed, with a bone resting beside him, sleeping peacefully.

They all looked so comfortable that I didn’t have the heart to wake them up to go inside.

“Mmm…”

Just then, Ara, who had been fidgeting, furrowed her brow and half-opened her eyes. She suddenly sat up and looked around.

“Kyu-seong Kyu-seong ?”

Seeing her searching for me, I quietly waved my hand. Ara soon spotted me, and groggily got up and ran over. She was still half-asleep as she snuggled into my arms. When I crouched down to receive her, she buried her face and rubbed against me.

“You’re sleepy…”

“It’s time to sleep, my little Ara.”

I patted her head and lifted her up into my arms. Before long, Ara, nodding off, fell back into a deep sleep.

Flap, flap, flap.

“Oh, Frey.”

“Have you returned, my lord?”

Frey spoke softly, not wanting to wake the others. Her now familiar wing beats caught my attention.

“Weren’t you sleeping with them?”

“No. I have something to tell you, my lord. I fought off the sleepiness just for this.”

“Something for me?”

I wondered what Frey had to say. It seemed important if she had waited all this time.

“The World Tree wishes to speak with you, my lord.”

“The World Tree?”

I was a bit surprised by the unexpected news. I hadn’t given much thought to the World Tree’s existence, so I was more curious than anything when Frey mentioned communication.

“Will you be translating for me, Frey?”

“Yes. It seems the World Tree wishes to greet the lord of this land.”

I found it hard to believe that such a significant being as the World Tree wanted to greet me. Though I was indeed the lord of this dungeon, the World Tree’s grandeur made me feel a bit nervous.

“Alright, then. I’ll go see it tomorrow after I get some rest.”

“Understood. I’ll convey that. Yawn.”

Having said what she needed to, Frey yawned and then gracefully landed on my shoulder, where Ara was already nestled. She curled up and drifted off to sleep. The sight was so natural it made me smile.

“Alright then, let’s all sleep together.”

Since it had come to this, I decided to use one side of Woofy’s back as a pillow. Fortunately, Woofy had grown to about 5 meters in size, providing plenty of room.

Soft.

The warmth and softness of the fur felt amazing. Since I was already tired, my eyes naturally began to close.

“Mmm.”

I carefully laid Ara down next to me and settled beside her. I placed Frey on the soft fur of Woofy.

Ssss.

A gentle breeze blew, creating a perfect harmony with the warmth of Woofy. Combined with the post-hot spring drowsiness, a supreme sense of peace washed over me.

“This is nice.”

In the quiet dungeon, with everyone asleep, I smiled contentedly and drifted into a restful sleep.

***

The Next Day

As soon as dawn broke, I woke up and gently tried to rouse Ryu Cheon, who was still sleeping.

“Ryu Cheon, it’s time for you to go.”

However, she seemed to be a heavy sleeper and couldn’t wake up properly. Eventually, my voice woke Ara first, who groggily sat down beside Ryu Cheon with a sleepy expression.

“Ryu Cheon, Ryu Cheon, you need to wake up.”

Surprisingly, at Ara’s words, Ryu Cheon’s furrowed brow relaxed, and her eyes slowly opened.

“Ara?”

“It’s me.”

“Ara…”

Still not fully awake, Ryu Cheon hugged Ara tightly, then noticed me.

“Is this a dream?”

“For a dream, you speak Korean quite well, Ryu Cheon.”

“Oh.”

She quickly glanced around and realized that she had been using Woofy as a pillow, causing her face to flush with embarrassment.

Oh, that’s a new expression. I always thought she was emotionless, but seeing these rare moments made me feel oddly proud.

“My apologies.”

Despite apologizing, she couldn’t bring herself to let go of Ara, who was just happily snuggling in Ryu Cheon’s arms.

“Is it morning already? I had such a good sleep.”

Seon-ah also woke up amidst the commotion, scratching her head as she sat up. When she noticed Ryu Cheon beside her, she quickly adjusted her posture.

“Oh, Ms. Ryu Cheon, you’re here. Hehe.”

“Casual speech.”

“Oh right! We agreed to speak casually. Sorry. Hehe.”

When did they get so close? I thought it would be difficult to get close to Ryu Cheon since she rarely showed emotions, but I guess I was wrong. Seon-ah really is friendly with everyone.

Seon-ah then turned to me, looking somewhat confused.

“Where’s Jae-seong?”

“He went home last night. I even saw him off, remember?”

“Oh, right? I must’ve been so tired I completely forgot.”

Now that Ryu Cheon was awake, it was time to prepare to leave. Thanks to Ryu Wang-jin’s schedule, we were able to stay for a night, but it was time to head back.

After a quick wash by the nearby stream, we emerged outside. Seon-ah insisted on seeing us off, repeatedly asking Ryu Cheon to visit again.

“Can I come back again?”

Ryu Cheon asked me in a slightly wistful voice. Seon-ah, who was beside her, also looked at me with teary eyes and grabbed my hand.

“Brother, we can, right?”

“Of course. You’re always welcome to visit whenever you have time.”

I would always welcome them. Seeing the people around me happy and satisfied made me happy too, so there was no reason to refuse.

“I’ll drive you.”

“They’re coming to pick us up.”

“Oh, really?”

Just then, a vehicle approached from the distance. The top of the vehicle opened, and Ryu Wang-jin, with his massive frame, emerged and waved his hand.

“I’m here!”

“Whoa!”

Ara’s eyes lit up with excitement as she saw him. Did she find that impressive?

“I didn’t expect Ryu Wang-jin to come in person.”

“Ry-Ryu Wang-jin?!”

Seon-ah, upon realizing she was meeting yet another big-shot, looked as if she might faint, her face frozen in shock.

The vehicle soon stopped, and Ryu Wang-jin, along with a man who appeared to be his assistant, got out of the car.

“Thank you for taking care of my granddaughter!”

“It was our pleasure. We had a great time as well. Oh, this is my sister, Lee Seon-ah.”

As I introduced them, Ryu Wang-jin’s eyes sparkled as he extended his hand for a handshake. Seon-ah, looking terrified, hesitantly took his hand.

“L-Lee Seon-ah, it’s nice to meet you.”

“I’m Ryu Wang-jin, Guildmaster of the Skyscraper Guild! They call me Jecheondae-seong!”

“Son Goku it is!”

Seon-ah was practically being shaken by Ryu Wang-jin’s enthusiastic handshake, looking even more dazed than before.

“It’s a pity. If we had more time, I would have joined in the fun.”

“Next time, come play with Ryu Cheon, Son Goku!”

“Indeed! I’ll make sure to find time to visit my friend! Hohoho!”

After shaking hands with Ara as well, Son Goku—no, Ryu Wang-jin—winked at me.

“If you ever face any trouble, don’t hesitate to reach out! I’ll help as much as I can.”

“Thank you so much for everything, including this time. Next time, I’ll make sure to set aside some time to treat you properly.”

“I’ll look forward to it!”

Ryu Wang-jin smiled warmly as he took Ryu Cheon away. Ryu Cheon, hesitant to leave, kept stopping and looking back at us.

“Ara, stay healthy. Seon-ah, make sure to meet again next time!”

“We’ll meet again!”

And me? Ryu Cheon? Am I just being left out? But I didn’t voice it out loud—I didn’t want to seem petty.

“Kyu-seong, this visit has been a very meaningful and memorable experience for me. Thank you, as always.”

“Oh, no problem. Please come visit again.”

Almost as if she had read my mind, Ryu Cheon quickly expressed her gratitude. I knew she wouldn’t leave without saying goodbye to me. Of course.

“Ryu Cheon!”

“Hmm?”

“In a few days, a new drama is airing in Korea, and Ara is in it! She only appears in one scene around episode 7, just a small role, but if you’re interested, you should check it out.”

“A drama!? Got it. I’ll definitely watch it.”

A faint smile appeared on Ryu Cheon’s usually expressionless face. Seon-ah, surprised, looked at her in awe.

“Wow…”

Seon-ah was in awe. Given how expressionless Ryu Cheon usually was, even a slight smile had a powerful impact.

Ryu Wang-jin, who also noticed, nodded with a very satisfied expression.

“It was definitely worth helping you, Kyu-seong!”

How did he connect those dots? Anyway, seeing them both in such high spirits made me smile as we exchanged farewells.

“Goodbye!”

Ara enthusiastically shouted and waved as the car drove away. Ryu Cheon and Ryu Wang-jin also waved back from the now-open-top vehicle. We stood there, waving until they were out of sight, and only then did we start moving again.

“Wow, was that all just a dream?”

“Would you prefer if it was?”

“No way! I just can’t believe it. I mean, I became friends with Ryu Cheon and shook hands with Ryu Wang-jin!”

For Seon-ah, a huge fan of Awakeners, this was probably a historic event. Of course, all of this happened thanks to who?

“Be grateful to your big brother.”

“Of course, dear brother, I’ll continue to rely on your greatness.”

“That’s more like it.”

Since we were on the topic, it was almost time for the drama featuring Ara to air. That also meant the commercial shoot was coming up soon.

“The commercial shoot is the day after tomorrow, right?”

“Yeah. You set an alarm so you wouldn’t forget, right?”

“Of course.”

After the commercial shoot, the drama would air shortly afterward, and the commercial would be out soon too. The thought of Ara appearing on TV gave me a strange feeling.

“She’s already a star online, but it feels different.”

And soon, the Wrath Permit from the European Union would be released. Busy days were ahead. But before that, there was something else that needed to be taken care of.

“Let’s head back.”

“Huh? Not going out today?”

“No, there’s nothing scheduled, and I have something to take care of.”

“Something to take care of?”

“I need to greet the World Tree.”

“The World Tree? Greet it?”

Seeing Seon-ah’s confusion, I gestured with my head.

“You should come along too. It’s not an opportunity you get every day.”

“Oh! Of course, I’m coming.”

“I’m coming too!”

Ara shouted excitedly.

Finding Ara so adorable, Seon-ah immediately picked her up.

“Let’s go right now. Frey is probably waiting for us.”

Right after the eyes and ears of everyone in the area were blinded by a pure white light.

When their stolen vision finally returned, what appeared before the mercenaries and Alon was…

“……!”

A massive crater.

Nothing remained there.

The grass that had been growing…

And the ruins that had stood on it for who knows how long, now vanished without a trace.

Even Argonia and Maverick, who had been standing close to him, had disappeared without a sign.

In the middle of that crater stood…

An Outer God, smiling darkly, twisting the corners of his lips.

The expressions of the mercenaries began to turn to despair.

Myaon, who had been holding her bow, and Himan, who had just moments ago been casting spells, both gaped in disbelief.

And then,

Grinning-!

The Outer God moved.

“…..”

Without hesitation, as if sentencing him to death, the Outer God, who had appeared before the previously stunned Himan, drew his hand from left to right.

Though Himan, knowing all too well what that action would result in, instinctively threw his body backward to dodge the invisible slash, he immediately tried to use Blink.

But then,

“How will you dodge what’s coming from above?”

With words that seemed mocking and a hand cutting from above to below,

Crack-!

By the time Himan’s body was split in two and fell to the ground,

The Outer God had already approached Myaon.

“Gasp!”

As soon as Myaon witnessed Himan being struck down, she had already drawn her bowstring and was ready to fire, but as soon as he appeared, she tried to release the string.

“Khak-!”

But before she could even release the arrow, the Outer God’s swift kick sent her flying into the ruins in the opposite direction.

“Now, only you remain.”

Kailas spoke with a dark smile.

***

With all four guild masters taken down before they could even put up a proper fight, the outcome of the battle was essentially decided.

For Alon, this was the worst possible situation.

His plan had failed right from the start,

The Ice Crystal Cascade, which had drained nearly all of his magic power, hadn’t inflicted any damage on the opponent,

And the guild masters, who were supposed to stall for time while he prepared his spells, had all been defeated.

Alon glanced down briefly.

Two empty potion bottles were already rolling on the ground near his feet.

Having consumed two mana potions, risking the danger of magic addiction, his small mana pool was refilling at a rapid pace.

But despite his mana increasing, his mind couldn’t come up with the next step.

Facing the Outer God with his plan in ruins was overwhelming.

What was even more problematic was the magic.

‘I’ve never seen that magic before.’

Alon had faced Kailas many times in Psychedelia and was well aware of his abilities and spells.

The reason the guild masters had held out as long as they did against the Outer God was because their knowledge gave them a decisive advantage.

But the incantation-based magic that Kailas had just used was something even Alon had never seen before.

In other words, Alon’s informational advantage had already disappeared by this point.

That wasn’t the only issue.

“…That’s magic.”

Alon felt a sense of despair as he stared at the crater behind him, where nothing remained.

Even though the essence was different, the magic must have used the same words and phrases, yet the Outer God’s magic was qualitatively different from the one Alon was using.

In short, from skill to information to planning, everything was overwhelmingly unfavorable, and even the mercenaries had lost their will to fight, merely looking up at the Outer God.

In this hopeless situation, where only death awaited, Alon glanced at the Outer God who seemed to mock him.

He was silent for a moment, then…

“Glory of the Snowy Mountains.”

He initiated his spell.

“Crystallize.”

At Alon’s command, the air around them gathered once again, forming dozens of particles.

“Rotation.”

With the next phrase, the particles began to spin clockwise.

Grin-!

Kailas, with a dark smile, moved his fingers at once.

A simple motion from left to right.

But…

Crack-!

‘There’s still hope.’

The invisible slash aimed at Alon struck one of the particles floating in the air, freezing on contact.

“Rine, help me.”

The battle resumed once again.

***

In a battle between mages, there were many factors at play, but two were of utmost importance.

The first was the speed of magic casting.

The second was strategy.

To defeat an opponent mage, one needed to predict what magic they would cast and how they would unfold it, then act one step ahead.

To gain the upper hand, one also needed a magic-casting speed similar to their opponent.

No matter how much one outmaneuvered the opponent, if the casting speed couldn’t keep up, there would be no way to respond.

In that respect, Alon’s fight against the Outer God seemed doomed to failure.

But…

Swish~!!

Alon had Rine by his side, deflecting the Outer God’s invisible slashes that slipped through the quickly thinning layers of magic.

Crack-!!

Even after casting defense spells more than three times, Rine continued to block the invisible strikes, swiftly weaving between the remaining bits of magic.

Alon could feel his hands trembling.

By now, over five empty mana potion bottles were scattered on the ground, and his skin had taken on a bluish hue.

Symptoms of mana addiction.

His heart was pounding wildly, and his mana pool was recovering at a speed incomparable to normal, allowing him to cast yet another spell.

Crack-!

But as soon as he cast it, the slash immediately blocked it.

In that fleeting moment, Kailas appeared right in front of Alon as if he had been waiting.

“Huh-”

Swish~!

With chains suddenly flying towards him, the Outer God backed off, creating distance and casting another spell.

It was as if a cat was toying with a mouse.

With the attitude of an absolute being watching Alon’s last desperate struggle, he could have ended it at any time, but he was merely playing with Alon.

However, despite this humiliating situation, what filled Alon’s mind wasn’t anger, but a cold, rational thought.

In that state,

“Crystallize.”

Once again, Alon continued his defense.

Defend,

Defend,

Defend,

Defend.

As if he had no strength left to attack.

Before he knew it, the blue skin that had spread from his fingertips up to his shoulders continued to block the attacks.

That desperate struggle, more like a last-ditch effort, was watched by many.

Some with eyes full of despair.

Some with disappointment.

Some with emptiness and frustration.

Everyone was watching.

Yet, even in such a situation, Alon relentlessly blocked the strikes.

As if it were his final stand.

With his eyes, now turned blue from mana addiction, bleeding,

He simply continued to unfold the magic he was permitted to cast.

And then,

Just as the chains wielded by Rine, who had been defending alongside Alon, finally snapped.

Grin-

Kailas smiled as if he had been expecting this moment.

‘Now.’

With a brief thought.

“Crystallize.”

Once again, Alon raised the particles to obscure Kailas’s vision—

“Ice and Snow.”

—But this time, he uttered different words.

The mana that gathered in front of him formed a seal, and white frost began to cling to it.

“Form.”

The frost soon expanded its power, spreading around Alon.

“Glory of the Snowy Mountains.”

The sentence, barely forced out as Alon swallowed back the blood rising in his throat, created a massive hexagonal crystal in front of him.

“The inevitable… of the blind—”

The hexagonal crystal rapidly expanded, devouring the surrounding air, and formed a spear just like before.

No, it was something so beautiful that it couldn’t simply be called a spear.

But Alon, suppressing the blood surging in his mouth, didn’t utter the final words.

‘This isn’t enough.’

At this moment, it was the situation that presented the highest chance of victory over the Outer God.

He had consumed all the mana potions he’d been saving for this moment.

Despite his small mana pool, he had continued a war of attrition that was nearly fatal to him.

And with that, he had successfully led Kailas into complacency.

His body, now close to a state of collapse, had unlocked another restriction he had placed on himself in advance.

A restriction that allowed him to bend the laws of the world when using magic while on the brink of death.

Now, all that remained was to prepare the final strike to kill Kailas, hidden behind the ice that had blocked the slash.

But Alon knew.

This alone wouldn’t be enough.

Even so, the reason Alon cast this magic was because of what it had said.

The next step in the natural order.

The manifestation of true essence.

‘But, in the end, you still know nothing.’

Alon recalled the Outer God’s words.

Surely, his words were referring to that.

And so, Alon had to achieve it.

The final, unavoidable move that could strike when the Outer God was off-guard.

Here and now, it had to be manifested.

‘Think.’

His thoughts accelerated.

His head, on the verge of bursting from mana addiction, frantically conjured and erased countless ideas at once.

The maddening sound of his heartbeat pounded relentlessly in his chest.

It was as if his brain were melting from the pain.

But even so, he didn’t stop.

Searching through every possible thought, Alon sought a hint that could lead him to the next step in the natural order.

And at that moment.

[It is the seal.]

A voice echoed in Alon’s mind.

[Delusion and enlightenment are fundamentally the same.]

[When you reach it, you will gain the key.]

With those words, spoken alongside a black ripple, whatever had uttered them disappeared, as if it had said all it needed to.

Before Alon could even grasp its identity, he had found the final piece to advance to the next stage of the natural order. Without hesitation, he released the seal he had been holding and formed a new one.

He clasped his right hand around his left, raising only his index finger straight, bringing the two together.

The completed seal: the Wisdom Fist Mudra.

And then,

Alon saw it.

The spear, which had just moments ago been adorned with a beautiful pattern, began to twist in a strange manner, transforming into the shape of a key.

Along with it—

“!”

As the ice melted away, the once-relaxed expression of the Outer God became visible again.

His previously leisurely demeanor hardened, and before he could even blink, as if realizing it had all been a game until now, he appeared in front of Alon and reached out without hesitation.

“I”

Swish~!

As if it had been waiting from the start, Rine’s chain swiftly moved in to block the Outer God in front of Alon.

And at that moment, a variable was introduced.

The Outer God immediately shifted his attention, turning toward Rine, who had left herself exposed while protecting Alon, and waved his fingers.

“Ah.”

A low gasp escaped Rine, foreseeing her own death.

But,

Alon, who had already predicted this outcome, grabbed hold of her clothes and pulled her toward him.

Swoosh-!

The slash narrowly missed them.

“_”

In return, Alon’s hand, which had drawn her to safety, burst with blood. But without hesitation, he formed the Wisdom Fist Mudra once again.

“Ice Crystal Spear.”

He uttered the final words.

The key lodged itself into the giant crystal, turning—

And in an instant, a glacier descended upon the plains.

If asked about his thoughts on the courtroom, Aiden would honestly say it’s not exactly his favorite place. It’s a natural reaction for someone whose primary job is a con artist. Therefore, willingly stepping into such a place is quite unusual for him.

…Or maybe not. Given his current aggressive demeanor, it might actually make sense. Noel glanced sideways at Aiden, who was seated beside her. The moment he heard that the Crown Prince would be present, he didn’t even consider his usual preferences and immediately showed up here.

Moreover, the ongoing trial was one that could easily provoke him—it was to determine the fate of Lord Levante, who had previously attacked Katia. What bothered Aiden, however, was that both the Crown Prince and the Chief Administrator remained indifferent, despite clearly seeing him and Noel enter. It felt as if they had been expecting him, as if this was all part of a prearranged plan. Aiden found this very unsettling.

“…Aiden, are you really okay with this?” Noel kept asking the same question over and over. It wasn’t a question that would normally come from someone who always charged ahead in battle without a backward glance, but Aiden’s current state was clearly dangerous.

“No, I’m not okay,” came Aiden’s unexpected response.

“Pardon?”

“Just having to sit here and wait is already unbearable.”

While Noel was at a loss for words, Aiden stared at the Crown Prince sitting on the podium with his eyes closed. His gaze was filled with simmering rage.

‘He really loses all sense of restraint sometimes,’ Noel thought, letting out a silent sigh. She had tried to persuade him to at least wait until the trial was over, as interfering with a royal official in the line of duty would be a grave offense.

One thing she had noticed several times was that while Aiden was willing to let things slide when it came to his own matters, he became utterly unhinged when trouble befell those close to him.

-He’s quite similar to Teresa, isn’t he? Despite the difference in gender.

-Just like her mentor, the Protector General.

Noel found her hand clenching tightly on her knee without realizing it. Though she was trying her best not to show it, the sight from the night before was still stuck in her mind like a dark smudge.

‘Why?’

According to a well-known rumor, in order for a spirit to appear in the material world, two conditions must be met: a certain level of achievement, and lingering, intense regret. And Teresa, who had appeared as a ghost, had attacked Noel, as if driven by that very regret—possibly the reason she hadn’t fully ascended to the afterlife yet.

‘—?’

As this thought crossed her mind, her clenched fist tightened even further, turning white. Her mind was flooded with the memory of that night, with Teresa’s final words echoing once again.

-I will stay, Noel.

-You know it too. You’ll become a greater person than I am.

-You have to protect them.

-Understood?

Her train of thought came to an abrupt halt when she felt blood trickling from between her fingers. Realizing this, Noel quickly covered her hand and closed her eyes.

‘This is dangerous.’

She needed to remain calm, especially in front of the Crown Prince and the Chief Administrator.

Since Aiden’s next move is unpredictable, she must maintain that state.

“Therefore, the defendants initiated the incident near the administrative building on the stated date, which is—”

Glancing to the side, Aiden frowns while staring at the administrative minister, who is currently testifying.

—To be honest, Noel completely agreed with Aiden’s reaction.

The Administrative Minister, Rad Ilja Barphon.

On the surface, he appears completely harmless, but there’s something suspicious about him.

A hunter, predator, or perhaps—

A viper.

There’s a sinister air about him.

It will probably become more apparent as he continues to speak.

“It seems that the relevant parties are also present here today.”

Rad’s gaze lands squarely on Aiden and Noel, sitting in the audience.

“…?”

Without any hesitation, he naturally drags them into the center of the event, causing Noel’s face to contort in displeasure.

“Then, shall we throw in an intriguing discussion?”

Rad continues with a beaming smile.

“As some of you may know, there was an interesting incident last night, wasn’t there?”

The moment he says this, Noel’s expression hardens.

This was certainly not a topic to be brought up here so abruptly.

“The illegal arms smuggling incident at the capital’s docks. A major crime scene, complete with Hellfire bombs. And let’s not forget the terrorist attack inside the capital’s administrative building, along with the resurrection of the Spirit of the Fallen Patriot yesterday…”

His fingers move smoothly through the air before pointing directly at a specific spot.

The gesture is unmistakable—it’s directed at Noel. It seems theatrical, almost staged.

—But there’s undeniable malice behind it.

“Isn’t there a common factor linking all these events? It seems everything erupts around a certain someone, doesn’t it?”

—In one sense, it was certainly an intriguing topic. Indeed.

Looking around, Noel notices that the judge, defendants, and plaintiffs are all silent. The entire room is solely focused on the Administrative Minister’s words.

It’s as if the whole place is his stage.

‘Is he really pulling this kind of stunt so blatantly?’

Noel looks at the Administrative Minister with an expression of disbelief.

At this point, it’s clear why Aiden was glaring at the man as if he wanted to kill him.

It’s obvious that the minister had planned this from the beginning, fully aware of their presence and deliberately setting a trap.

“What exactly are you trying to say, Minister?”

Noel responds stiffly, her voice hardening.

Rad strokes his chin slowly before speaking.

“It’s just curious how all the recent incidents seem to originate from around you. It’s almost as if the Lionheart herself is causing chaos in the capital, isn’t it? Though, of course, I’m not saying that’s actually the case.”

Rad adds with a sly smile.

“Not yet.”

He had a remarkable talent for provoking people.

“In short.”

Noel responds calmly, though his voice carries both anger and disbelief.

“The illegal arms smuggling into the Empire, the daylight terrorist attack at the capital building, and the resurrection of the Spirit of the Fallen Patriot are all connected to me?”

“It’s possible to suspect that, yes.”

—Truly, it’s so absurd that it’s not even infuriating. It’s not even worth responding to.

“I think such an accusation is inappropriate for this setting and situation. Accusations hold weight only when supported by legitimate testimony.”

“Ah, right.”

The minister snaps his fingers, as if directing a pre-arranged ‘actor.’

“Then, please state it. According to the legitimate process, Sir Levant, who is seated in the defendant’s box. Who was behind the terrorist attack at the administrative building this time?”

“…Lionheart’s instigation,” Sir Levant says calmly.

The sudden statement startles everyone present, as it comes without any warning.

“And the reason?”

“The motive was dissatisfaction with the lord. It was a political attack.”

As soon as he finishes speaking, a wave of strong reactions ripples among the attendees. While the prepared participants remain composed, shock is evident on the faces of unrelated onlookers.

In a trial attended by both the Administrative Minister and the Crown Prince, it was none other than a knight, a core figure in the Empire’s military and a battle-tested veteran, who made the statement.

No matter how absurd the claim is, it’s hard to dismiss it as a complete lie.

Regardless of whether the rumor is true, the news itself is a shocking scandal. It will soon spread like wildfire, tarnishing her reputation. Noel clenched her teeth.

The situation is clear even without looking. Levant must have made a deal, accepting all the blame in exchange for sparing his subordinates. Despite his strained relationship with her, Levant is fiercely protective of his subordinates; persuading him wouldn’t have been difficult.

It’s an obvious charade—a blatant attack aimed at framing her, with no regard for reason. What infuriates her more is the intent behind it. This isn’t just about damaging her image.

‘The target isn’t me.’

Given the Crown Prince’s usual behavior, understanding his intent isn’t hard. Ultimately, his aim is not her, but the person sitting beside her—her fiancé.

Despite Aiden’s notoriety, he has no foundation within the Empire’s political sphere; he’s an outsider. So far, his actions have merely met the minimum requirements to function as Lionheart’s husband. The only reason she managed to justify marrying him to others was purely due to her own reputation and connections.

‘If that Lionheart made this decision, we can’t treat this man lightly.’

The target is clear: to drive a wedge between her and Aiden by dismantling her social reputation.

“If you spread such false rumors, you won’t be able to handle the truth when it comes to light,” she retorts. At this moment, the best she can do is deny it calmly and firmly. After all, she’s never lied—she just needs to present the facts as they are.

The problem is…

“Ah, but.”

There is one point she cannot refute.

“The Spirit of the Fallen Patriot clearly attacked you, didn’t it?”

At that instant, she feels the blood drain from her face.

“Answer me, Lionheart. Would the Fallen Patriot ever mistakenly draw her sword against someone who isn’t an enemy of the Empire?”

“One of the heroes who once sacrificed her life for the country—how would you explain that?”

In all other aspects, the truth is on her side. However, regarding this one issue…

She has no response, and the reason is simple.

Even she doesn’t know why Teresa’s spirit did such a thing. Deep down, she harbored a suspicion that perhaps there might be some truth to what they’re saying. This doubt delayed her reaction, and even a brief hesitation became a glaring weakness.

The best lies always contain a kernel of truth.

The expressions of the people around her change. Seeing her inability to respond immediately, they start to consider the Administrative Minister’s suspicion as partially valid.

Although the room remains as silent as before, the atmosphere is now clearly dominated by the Administrative Minister.

The recent series of events in the capital is all Lionheart’s doing.

Even if it’s not fully proven, the seed of doubt has been sown.

‘…This is bad.’

With a pale face, Noel’s only thought is how the situation has taken a decisive turn. Her mistake has given the Minister’s words a sense of legitimacy, leading some to prematurely assume his claims to be entirely true.

This means…

The attack will naturally shift towards the very idea of her ‘marriage.’ Her misstep has opened the floodgates.

But then…

Just when it seemed inevitable, someone suddenly stands up and strides across the courtroom’s center.

“It’s kind of disappointing.”

Everyone’s attention turns to the man speaking in a low voice.

“Why leave one person out of this story?”

His voice is surprisingly relaxed, almost out of place in the tense courtroom. It seems disconnected from the current situation.

“There’s one more common factor you’re all talking about.”

However, for those who know the man behind the voice, their assessment would be somewhat different.

“I was present at all those places you mentioned. The arms smuggling, the terrorist site, and even the spirit.”

It’s a response borne out of barely restrained fury.

The cold rationality suppressing the boiling rage within manifests as a mask of composure.

“So, as someone who was there, I’ll speak directly.”

And his anger’s target is clear.

“My wife isn’t that kind of person, so let’s cut the crap.”

It’s not directed at Administrative Minister Rad, who made the accusations.

But at the one who clearly ordered him to do so.

“Your Highness.”

He drops these words in front of the silent Crown Prince sitting atop the podium.

Round 182

I took Jae-seong to where the jars were stored. The well-organized jars were kept outdoors rather than indoors, with two small creatures standing guard as if on watch.

“Hehe.”

No abnormalities while on guard.

They were diligently following my orders.

“Wow, you’ve made a lot. How many jars are there?”

“About 50, maybe a little more.”

And this isn’t the end. The cultivation and harvesting of beans are ongoing, and as soon as this batch of doenjang (fermented soybean paste) is successful, more will be made right away. At the moment, all the lids were covered, and since it had only been a few days since we started, it would take much longer before it was ready.

“Can I check it out?”

“Of course.”

I was curious too, as I hadn’t checked on the fermentation process since starting it. Had there been any changes?

Clank.

As I opened the lid, I saw a dark-colored liquid and pieces of charcoal and dried peppers floating inside the jar.

“It’s still a long way to go.”

“Yeah, it’s only been two or three days.”

From what I’d read, the fermentation process could take up to three months, or at least 40 days. Of course, the timeline for my homemade paste was uncertain, so it was best to check on it regularly.

“The meju (fermented soybean blocks) was ready faster than I expected. It didn’t take months like I thought it would.”

“Really? Then maybe this will ferment quickly too. Something to look forward to.”

Jae-seong scooped up a bit with a ladle and tasted it with his finger. He then hummed with a not-bad reaction.

“Oh, should I try it too?”

“It’s not tasty yet.”

“Then why did you hum in appreciation?”

“It seems to be fermenting well, so that’s good.”

Oh, hearing that from Jae-seong was a relief. Afterward, he opened the lids of each jar one by one, inspecting them more seriously than I had anticipated. I felt a bit embarrassed that I hadn’t been as diligent.

“Good, good.”

“Good?”

“Yeah, I think they’ll be fine if we leave them as they are. Are you opening the lids from time to time?”

“Yeah, these guys are.”

I pointed to the little creatures, who tilted their heads with their distinctive sound.

“Hehe.”

“They’re reliable.”

How so?

I couldn’t quite understand Jae-seong’s perspective, but I moved on as we headed toward the peppers. The peppers we had initially harvested were spread out on a mat. There were both red chili peppers and green ones, with a ratio of about 8:2. The green peppers are better eaten fresh rather than dried.

“Are these peppers?”

“Yeah. They kind of look like bell peppers or paprika, don’t they?”

“Can I try one?”

“Sure.”

He picked up a drying red pepper and sniffed it before taking a bite. I watched him closely as he crunched on it.

“Hmm! It’s a pepper, alright.”

“It is a pepper. How is it?”

“The flavor is quite rich. Oh, this is interesting.”

“Really?”

I had tried them before, but they didn’t seem particularly special to me, though they were tasty. I guess Jae-seong’s palate picked up something different.

“You’ve tried them too, right?”

“Huh? Oh, yeah.”

“Have you tried the dried ones?”

“No.”

“Here, try this one.”

Come to think of it, I hadn’t yet tried the half-dried peppers. So I took a bite of the partially dried one that Jae-seong handed me.

‘Oh!’

It tasted a bit different from when it was freshly harvested. It was hard to say which was better, but the dried one had a concentrated flavor.

“It’s spicier now.”

“Can we try the freshly harvested ones too?”

“Sure. Let’s head to the field.”

As we headed to the field, we found some visitors there. Seon-ah was showing Ryu Cheon around the field. They were tasting the freshly harvested Layla, strawberries, and paprika, which were at their peak of ripeness.

Squish~!

The slimes, like devoted servants, were bringing the harvests to them from all around. Seon-ah and Ryu Cheon accepted and ate the offerings with ease.

“Aaahhh.”

Ara was sitting beside them, mouth open, receiving food like a baby bird being fed by its mother.

“Oh, the brothers are here,” Seon-ah casually greeted us.

I had asked her to show them around the village, and she turned it into a little tasting session.

“Kyu-seong’s place is like heaven,” Ryu Cheon mumbled as she ate the crops with her usual expressionless face. Nearby, Soo was rolling around with a satisfied look, clearly having eaten his fill.

-Krooom.

Even Gomgom, who usually acted cautiously around strangers, was quietly nestled in Ryu Cheon’s arms. Despite her stoic face, she seemed to have a knack for charming the kids.

“The pepper field is over there.”

“Oh, so you’ve set it up to get plenty of sunlight.”

“I’ve never had much trouble with farming, but I failed with peppers and rice before. But this time, the peppers have finally succeeded, and the rice seems to be going well too.”

As Jae-seong and I headed toward the pepper field, Ara automatically followed us, not because she had something to do, but as if out of habit. Seeing this, Ryu Cheon also followed, holding Gomgom in her arms.

“Is this paprika?” Ryu Cheon asked, looking at the peppers.

I could understand her confusion, so I corrected her.

“These are peppers.”

“The spicy kind?”

“That’s right, the spicy kind.”

We picked a pepper and tasted it right away. It seemed slightly spicier than before, but not overwhelmingly so. If it continues to become spicier gradually, it would be easier to control the flavor. However, considering how much spicier they became after drying, some research might be needed.

“There’s definitely a difference. Hey, can I take a few with me?”

“Of course. While you’re at it, take some of the other crops too.”

As Jae-seong and I chatted about cooking, Seon-ah came over to me and spoke up.

“Brother, Ryu Cheon mentioned that something happened recently?”

“Huh? Oh, it’s nothing.”

In reality, it was something significant. But I didn’t want to worry them unnecessarily. Jae-seong looked at me with wide eyes, wondering if I hadn’t told my family.

“I just caught a suspicious person, but it turned out they were connected to the European Union, so it caused a bit of a stir. They apologized to me directly.”

“The European Union?”

“Yes. Oh! I might be going to Europe soon. Just Ara and me.”

At my words, Ryu Cheon’s eyes suddenly lit up with interest.

“Are you going to Europe?”

“Yes. Just to take a look around.”

“It’s dangerous.”

Her words were simple, but I could sense the concern behind them.

“The European Union is dangerous, and so are the dungeons.”

“Oh, it’s just a quick visit for sightseeing. We were invited, so it’s more of a chance to take Ara on a trip abroad.”

“Hmm…”

Ryu Cheon still looked worried, while my siblings, not fully understanding the conversation, just tilted their heads in confusion.

“I’ll try my best.”

“Huh? What will you try?”

Ryu Cheon’s sudden statement left me puzzled. Was she still struggling with Korean? I couldn’t quite grasp where her comment fit into the conversation.

The conversation ended there, and we began planning our next steps. Since we had guests, it was time to give them a proper tour.

“How about showing them the fairy village and then taking the kids to the hot springs? Or maybe we could go to the lake?” Seon-ah suggested.

Nodding in agreement, we all decided to head to the fairy village.

“Fairies?”

“You know what fairies are, right?”

“Ara.”

“Ara isn’t a fairy.”

Ryu Cheon seemed confused. There’s nothing like seeing it firsthand, so we decided to let her experience it herself.

Seon-ah, Ryu Cheon, and Ara rode on Woofy, while Jae-seong and I took Purr. As we approached the World Tree…

“It looks a bit different, doesn’t it? What is it?”

The once bare branches of the World Tree, after winter, were now lush with vibrant green leaves, giving off the feeling of spring.

‘Ah!’

I finally noticed what had changed. Something pale pink was densely growing on the branches that usually only bore leaves.

“What the—?”

“What did you say?!” Jae-seong shouted in response to my muttering.

It seemed he hadn’t heard me over the wind.

“Nothing!”

I’ll have to go check it out. It could have been there from the beginning, or maybe it naturally appeared after winter ended. Since I’ve only experienced one winter here, there’s still a lot I don’t know.

When we arrived at the village, as always, the fairies enthusiastically welcomed us. By now, they were so used to visitors that they even adorably greeted the new guest.

Ryu Cheon stood there, staring blankly at the scene in front of her, seemingly in a daze.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

“Yes,” she replied immediately.

At least she answered quickly.

As we waited for Ryu Cheon to snap out of her daze, Frey appeared, flapping her wings. She had returned to her usual form from the round, rolling shape she had earlier.

“Lord, you’ve arrived! Ah! We have a new guest!”

“Yes, she’s my friend. By the way, you’re back to your original shape? You’re even flying a bit now.”

“Hehe, I’ve been practicing every day.”

Ryu Cheon’s gaze naturally shifted to Frey. Given that Frey had wings and could communicate, it made sense that Ryu Cheon would be interested.

“Fairy.”

“Yes, a fairy. Now you know what I meant by ‘fairy,’ right?”

“It’s a fairy.”

Suddenly, communication seemed to break down again. Frey, noticing Ryu Cheon’s interest, flapped her wings and flew over to her. Ryu Cheon instinctively held out her palm.

Flap, flap—

Frey landed gently.

“Hello?”

“It’s a fairy.”

“Hehe. I’m Alfheim. ‘Fairy’ is too grand a title for me.”

“What’s your name?”

“I’m Frey! The queen of Alfheim!”

“Frey.”

Soon, a crowd of tiny fairies gathered around. It seemed that Ryu Cheon had a peculiar knack for attracting them. Without doing much, she seemed to naturally draw them in.

“Wow…” Seon-ah looked on with envy.

Honestly, I was envious too.

‘Ah, they did say she had innate magical power. Maybe that’s why?’

It seemed like a plausible theory as we continued our tour of the fairy village. The tour didn’t take long since it was a miniature village.

“Oh, right. Frey.”

“Yes!”

“I noticed something other than leaves on the World Tree. Has that always been there?”

“Ah! Recently, I was able to communicate with the World Tree, and I asked it to try blooming some flowers!”

How should I respond to this?

Frey was now able to communicate with the World Tree, and the first thing she asked it to do was bloom flowers?

“Why flowers?”

“Aren’t they beautiful?”

“Well, yes, but anything else?”

“Anything else? Is there supposed to be another reason?”

Frey asked me back, clearly puzzled.

“When the World Tree blooms, nothing strange or dangerous will happen, right?”

“I’ll ask again just to be sure.”

“So you really just asked because you wanted to see it.”

“Hehe…”

The World Tree’s flowers… I have to admit, I’m curious too. What kind of flowers will bloom?

‘I wonder if I might get a World Tree seed or something?’

Honey, pollen, fruit, seeds… Thoughts of flowers naturally led to those things. Unlike Frey, I was getting lost in all these worldly considerations.

But who could blame me for being excited?

After exploring the fairy village, we headed to the hot springs. When asked if she preferred the hot springs or the lake, Ryu Cheon chose the hot springs.

“We could go to both, you know.”

Seon-ah, Ryu Cheon, Ara, and Frey had become a close-knit group by now, laughing together as they walked ahead. It seemed like they didn’t even hear my suggestion.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been to a hot spring.”

“You live in Japan. How can it have been a while?”

“I only work when I’m there. Just researching cooking.”

“Why do you live like that?”

“What? You’re one to talk. I bet you’re not much different from me.”

That’s true. But at least I’m enjoying life here. I make sure to visit the hot springs once a week!

That’s why I even set up a changing room and a storage bin for bathing clothes near the hot springs!

Let’s take a moment to think about this person called Teresa. By the time the main scenario progresses in the game, she’s already deceased and only briefly mentioned in the background. She’s a peer of the Prince and Noel, a few years older than them. However, her battlefield experience is far richer, and she’s also the benefactor who took in Noel when she became an orphan, left with no relatives because of the war.

She significantly shaped Noel’s values and was practically her only family—a figure akin to her parent. She was also the one who taught her the abilities she uses, including the pure white aura and swordsmanship. Of course, in terms of capability, she has refined the theories she taught, and Noel is ultimately the one who perfected them, making her the stronger one.

“A ghost?”

In the current situation, though, that wasn’t the main issue. Noel’s voice was barely audible, but the emotion it carried was fiercer than any expression Aiden had ever seen from her. How could one even describe it? Grief, despair, confusion—none of which were helpful in overcoming the present situation. Glancing at her face beside him, Aiden could delve a bit deeper into her state. This wasn’t just about losing composure; she was nearing complete denial of reality, unable to fully comprehend what stood before her.

Regardless of who was weaker or stronger, Noel’s current state made her more of a liability than an asset in the fight—she couldn’t even manage to run away.

“Why… here—”

However, even Aiden could fully sympathize with her dazed muttering.

‘Why is this person…!?’

This person had never once shown up in the game like this. She was only ever mentioned, but never appeared as a resurrected spirit that needed to be fought.

Much less one who would lift a sword and aim a slash at Noel!

As Aiden gritted his teeth and lunged toward her, he collided with Noel, who was standing blankly, and they tumbled to the ground together.

‘I have no idea why this person is here…’

But there was a way to escape the situation. The rift, the source of the phenomenon causing the spirit to manifest in the physical realm, had already been sealed. Even though Teresa’s spirit had appeared suddenly, it couldn’t remain manifested for long. If they could just get out of the area and move beyond the spirit’s “combat range,” the immediate event would end.

The problem was…

‘I can’t get out…!’

Aiden’s physical abilities weren’t enough to escape from the spirit that could unleash such monstrous slashes. He needed someone’s help, no question about it.

“Lady Stella, can you move both me and Lady Noel at the same time—!”

“…It’s possible, but barely!”

Stella gritted her teeth as she gripped a nearby lamppost with one hand. The massive chunk of metal, held by a single human hand, shattered the concrete beneath it with a loud crack as it was ripped out. It was an unbelievable feat of strength that would leave any observer gaping, yet the person performing it kept her eyes fixed on Teresa’s ghost, filled with tension.

Her instincts were telling her—she could sense just how powerful ‘that thing’ was.

“We can’t just evade it! Lady Noel needs to snap out of it!”

Stella said this as she hurled the streetlamp she had just uprooted like a spear. Watching the massive chunk of metal, larger than a human body, fly at such speed was terrifying enough, but seeing Teresa slice it cleanly in half with one swift stroke was even more absurd.

Stella then drew her sword and charged toward the spirit. Clearly, she intended to buy time, not to win the fight. It was a signal for Aiden to somehow get Noel back to her senses.

Her intentions were admirable, but with Noel in her current state, it seemed almost impossible to either escape or bring her back to reality. Her eyes were unfocused as if staring into the distance, and her limbs hung limp as though she’d lost all strength. It seemed she was struggling to even process what had just happened.

“…Teresa…?”

Noel murmured the name, as if sobbing. It was clear she had no idea what she was saying.

“Did she… attack? Me?”

“Lady Noel, get a hold of yourself!”

Aiden grabbed Noel by her collar, lifting her slightly to bring her face closer to his.

“…Aiden…?”

“If we stay like this, we’ll all die! We have to get out of here!”

Though Aiden still had the Crown Prince’s skill replication ability, it was useless against Teresa. He needed a more efficient plan.

“Die…?”

Noel repeated the word weakly, her unfocused eyes struggling to process it.

“Teresa… wants to kill me?”

It was a voice detached from reality, a tone utterly unlike Noel’s usual self. It was as if she couldn’t comprehend what was happening around her.

Considering her relationship with Teresa, it was understandable—like hearing that a parent wants to kill their child. However, they had to find a way to bring her back to her senses somehow.

Just as Aiden was thinking that, blood suddenly trickled down his forehead. It must have been from when they rolled on the ground earlier, causing a cut.

As a droplet of blood fell onto Noel’s face, her pupils dilated, bringing focus back into her gaze. Her previously drifting consciousness seemed to return, as though she remembered what needed to be done.

She raised a trembling hand and touched Aiden’s forehead, feeling the wet blood at her fingertips.

“…Are you hurt?”

“……”

“Are you hurt, Aiden?”

“Well, yes, but it’s nothing serious,” Aiden responded.

It was merely a scratch, not a serious injury. Yet, Noel’s eyes suddenly showed a glimmer of determination.

“How can you say it’s nothing? You’re bleeding!”

“……”

“For crying out loud…!”

Noel abruptly raised her voice, standing up. It felt like the sudden shock had snapped her out of her daze.

How far would she go to protect others?

While it was a relief that she’d come to her senses, Aiden’s feelings were still complicated.

Then, Noel turned her gaze toward the ghost of Teresa, who was engaged in combat with Stella, gritting her teeth. Regardless of the situation, it seemed she had realized what she needed to do now.

“Haa…”

With a sigh, Noel wrapped one arm around Aiden’s waist, pulling him close to her side. Aiden couldn’t help but wonder if Stella had been her inspiration for such a method of carrying someone.

In this stance, Noel crouched low and then launched herself forward with great force, leaving a crater where she had been standing. The impact caused the entire ground to tremble, as if a bomb had gone off.

In an instant, she reached Stella’s location and delivered a powerful kick to Teresa, using all the momentum she had built up.

-!

-!!

The impact alone sent Teresa flying, crashing into a building and demolishing part of it, like being struck by a battering ram. Unlike before, when she had been overpowering Stella, this time she didn’t even have a chance to react.

‘What the—!’

Aiden had thought it was impressive enough when Stella had ripped out a streetlamp with her bare hands, but compared to Noel’s sheer power, it seemed insignificant. As Aiden began to truly grasp the superhuman feats that knights with otherworldly abilities could achieve, Noel picked up Stella in the same way she had grabbed Aiden and said:

“Hold on tight.”

Then, with a loud cracking sound, she continued,

“We’re getting out of here!”

With that, all three of them suddenly lifted off the ground. Of course, they weren’t literally flying; it only seemed that way because Noel had leapt so high into the air.

But even as she did that…

Noel’s gaze was locked on Teresa, who was glaring back from within the partially destroyed building. Her eyes stayed fixed on her, even as she disappeared from view. Until the very end.

—It was good that they managed to escape the situation for now, but Aiden was suffering from a splitting headache.

Quest Info

The events listed here will incur massive penalties if failed!

Main Quest

Act 1: “Crack in the Capital”

Chapter 1: “The Ghostly Knight Incident”

▶ The ‘boss’ has not been defeated. The quest is still incomplete.

▶ Partial failure has resulted in penalties.

The boss becomes much stronger!

The subjugation battle will soon resume.

Failure of this subjugation will result in quest failure!

‘…Damn it.’

Aiden sighed internally at the floating quest window before him. He had expected this outcome. After all, letting the boss fight—the most crucial event—go unresolved was bound to come back to bite him. But the fact that the boss would now become even stronger was dizzying.

Even before, the boss seemed capable of keeping up with Noel in combat. If it was going to get “much stronger,” even combining the efforts of Noel and Katia might not be enough.

‘Oh, dear…’

While Aiden racked his brain for a solution, Noel, who had been wrapping a bandage around his forehead, finished up.

“That should do it.”

“…Anyone would think I’d been shot in the head,” Aiden muttered.

Before he could comment on the excessive reaction to a mere scratch, Noel continued without skipping a beat.

“I’ve called for a specialist. It’s best to get checked, just in case.”

“That’s a bit—”

“Aiden.”

Noel interrupted with a bright smile, though her eyes were anything but cheerful. It was clear she wouldn’t accept any objections.

“Get checked.”

Aiden quietly nodded.

“You got this injury from contact with a spirit. We don’t know what kind of complications it could cause.”

“Well…”

Technically, getting roughed up by Meyer daily was probably more of a concern, but there was no need to mention that out loud.

But more importantly…

There was something else on his mind.

“…May I ask you something?”

“Yes?”

“Are you okay, Lady Noel?”

“My injuries are just scratches—”

“No, that’s not what I mean.”

Aiden hesitated for a moment before speaking again.

“Are you really okay?”

Realizing he was referring to Teresa’s spirit, Noel clammed up.

“You may have to fight it again.”

“It seems you think that’s inevitable.”

“Yes.”

There was a solution, at least a rough “breakthrough” he’d come up with from observing the previous battle. However, whether Noel could handle it was another matter. When she briefly clashed with Teresa earlier, she showed unusual hesitation—almost as if she couldn’t bear to do it.

After a long silence, Noel let out a deep sigh.

“…I’m not okay.”

She admitted it plainly, her expression etched with the scars of past memories.

“Teresa has been with me since I was too young to remember. She’s like a big sister to me.”

She continued, her voice heavy with pain.

“…It’s hard enough to even think about her. How could I possibly be okay with fighting something that resembles her?”

Of course.

Given her state, it was clear that avoiding a confrontation next time might be the better choice.

“But…”

Cutting through his thoughts, Noel spoke with resolve.

“If you try to handle this without me, I’ll be angry.”

“…What?”

“I’m the one who got you involved in this.”

Before he could respond, Noel placed a hand on Aiden’s shoulder, a faint smile tugging at her lips. It was a lighthearted expression, but it carried a strong sense of sincerity.

“Besides, there’s no definite proof that it’s really Teresa’s spirit. Even if it is, no matter what happens, I’ll make sure you get back safely to your family.”

Just like yesterday, when the incident occurred. Even if it meant crossing swords with something resembling her sister’s spirit, she was determined to protect Aiden to the end.

“Please, don’t worry about my situation. Your safety is the top priority.”

For a moment, Aiden was at a loss for words, simply staring at Noel.

‘…Now I see.’

He let out a soft chuckle and rubbed his face. Noel had often told him she’d protect him, but he never realized how sincere she was. Even with Teresa involved, she prioritized his safety over her own.

“Why that expression, Aiden?”

“I’m… a bit embarrassed.”

“Excuse me?”

“I’m starting to see you a bit differently, Lady Noel.”

How could he put it? He had never disliked her, but now he genuinely felt closer to her—not in a romantic sense, but certainly in a positive way. This was… a big deal.

At those words, Noel awkwardly stepped back.

“Why would you say that… now?”

“Sorry?”

“Aiden, I don’t dislike you either, but this isn’t exactly the right time to flirt…”

No, that wasn’t what he meant.

‘I need to change the topic.’

“More importantly, what’s that?”

Aiden gestured toward a newspaper on Noel’s desk. He was curious since he’d never seen her read one before. But as soon as he mentioned it, Noel’s expression darkened.

“Ah, that…”

Seeing her hesitation, Aiden leaned forward to get a better look. His expression also shifted when he read the headline.

“The Ghost of Teresa Appears in the Capital… What Really Happened During the Allied War?”

“It seems yesterday’s events have caused quite a stir.”

As Noel forced a bitter smile, Aiden read the article with a hardened expression. For a spirit to materialize in the physical realm, certain conditions must be met—something evident from Meyer’s case. One must have achieved a highly refined spiritual state, or retain an intense, unresolved “regret” so powerful that even death cannot suppress it.

“…Teresa died because of Lady Noel, and he came back for revenge because of that grudge?”

If one considered these conditions, the sudden appearance of Teresa’s spirit last night could be construed in such a way. The article cleverly deflected responsibility from its own writers, but it essentially treated these assumptions as established facts. If it were merely tabloid journalism, it might have been dismissible. However, this was from one of the most reputable media outlets in the capital—a publication that was openly attacking the empire’s hero, the “Lionheart.”

And yet…

…Regardless of everything, it’s too fast.

The incident had only occurred last night. The fact that such an article had already been published—less than half a day later—suggested clear signs of malicious “pressure” behind the scenes. As for who was responsible, well…

The Crown Prince.

No one else was hostile enough toward Noel to exert this kind of pressure.

“Well,” Noel said with a bitter smile still on her face, “it doesn’t really matter what they say. It’s their right to think whatever they want.”

“I’m not particularly bothered by it. I don’t really ca—”

Noel abruptly stopped mid-sentence. Aiden had walked up to her and placed his hands firmly on her shoulders.

“Noel.”

“…Yes?”

“We haven’t known each other long, but there’s one thing I know for sure.”

He pressed gently but firmly on her shoulders as he spoke.

“I don’t think you’d ever do such a thing.”

Noel remained silent, meeting Aiden’s gaze.

“You don’t have to explain in detail, but let me ask you: did you do it?”

“…What do you mean?”

“I’m asking if the nonsense this article is spewing is actually true. Did you really do any of that?”

Noel blinked, looking up at Aiden with a stunned expression. She seemed both surprised and confused by his question. Her usual, slightly weary expression was still there, but there was something different in her eyes—something that suggested she was on the brink of making a significant decision.

“…Of course not. Teresa is my benefactor.”

The moment Noel said this, Aiden nodded and released her shoulders.

“Good. Then let’s go.”

“Huh? Go where? Where are you going?”

“We’re going to bash the heads of the people who spread these lies.”

“……”

“The Crown Prince—where is he right now, and what is he doing?”

Just as Noel had spoken to Aiden moments ago, there was a clear sign that he wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Round 181

Prev | TOC | Next

After Ara and Ryu Cheon’s meeting ended, I tried to meet Jae-seong separately, but in the end, Ryu Cheon ended up following along.

“We have about two days of free time.”

“But is it alright for you to be going around alone? Didn’t Yu Bihong come with you this time?”

“Since I came to Korea on short notice, Yu Bihong couldn’t come due to her schedule. And yes, it’s fine for me to be on my own.”

Ryu Cheon said that and then continued speaking clearly.

“I’m an adult.”

“Yes, of course.”

“I can take care of myself.”

That’s not what I was asking. I meant, is it alright for such an important person to be wandering around alone, but it seems she misunderstood.

“Hey, bro! Oh, who is this?”

Just then, Jae-seong arrived.

He tilted his head curiously as he looked at Ryu Cheon, who was bundled up tightly.

“This is my guest. Actually, no, this is Ara’s guest.”

“She’s my fan!”

Ara said, waving her hand instead of greeting.

“Oh, you’re a fan. Hello?”

“Hello, younger brother of Kyu-seong.”

Thanks to Ryu Cheon’s now native-sounding accent, Jae-seong didn’t notice anything strange when he heard the greeting.

I’ll have to introduce him properly later. There are too many people here right now, so it’s difficult to openly say he’s Ryu Cheon.

“Shall we get going?”

“Huh? What about the fan?”

“Oh, She’s a fan, but she’s actually a friend.”

We went to where the car was parked.

And as expected, Jae-seong’s reaction came out.

“What the heck, bro?! Is this your car?”

“Yeah, that’s right.”

“Wow.”

I felt a thrill from the reaction I had been hoping for.

Ryu Cheon seemed indifferent, but Jae-seong kept examining the car, mumbling constantly.

“No way, bro. Did you really buy this car? I can’t believe it…”

“Actually, I didn’t buy it, I received it.”

“You received it?!”

Jae-seong was shocked once again.

And Ara, watching Jae-seong, smiled contentedly.

“Just watching you is satisfying enough.”

Ara, is that really how you say it?

Ara also subtly enjoyed people’s reactions.

After getting in the car, Jae-seong became even more excited.

When asked if he was interested in cars, he waved his hand, saying that wasn’t the case.

“It’s just fascinating, that’s all. Really.”

“Is that so?”

“Yeah. I’ve never known you as someone who would drive something like this. Of course, it’s also my first time riding in such an expensive car.”

That’s true.

In fact, this is also my first time riding in such an expensive car.

Although I’ve ridden in Hanul’s car before, it wasn’t this expensive. But still, that was also a car worth hundreds of millions.

“Oh, and I couldn’t say this earlier, but the person sitting in the passenger seat right now is Ryu Cheon.”

“Ryu Cheon? Ah! The one from yesterday!”

Jae-seong hurriedly greeted him.

Ryu Cheon gave a simple greeting and then focused back on Ara, indulging in her presence to his heart’s content.

“We happened to end up coming together.”

“Was it an inconvenience?”

“What? No! Not at all.”

I should stay close with Ryu Cheon, or rather, the Skyscraper Guild. After the last tour, I felt that we might collaborate on various projects in the future. As a huge corporation, no, a guild, I might need their help more often than not.

We soon arrived home.

Jae-seong marveled at the site where construction was nearly complete.

“Would it be okay to just build a restaurant on this empty land?”

“Yeah, that should be fine.”

“Well, if you want, you could just build it in the dungeon too. The dungeon has a better atmosphere anyway.”

“Thanks, bro. I’ll think about it a lot.”

Actually, Jae-seong has already been here a few times, so that’s that, but I was curious about Ryu Cheon’s impressions.

However, Ryu Cheon just stood there blankly with her characteristic expressionless face. At least she had removed her hat, mask, and sunglasses.

“Shall we go inside?”

“I! I will guide you!”

“Alright. Ara, guide Ryu Cheon.”

“Ryu Cheon, Ryu Cheon! Hold my hand tight! You shouldn’t get lost!”

Ryu Cheon nodded quickly and tightly held Ara’s hand.

Seeing her somewhat affectionate demeanor, I couldn’t help but feel amused and followed them contentedly.

We entered the dungeon.

As usual, Ara was supposed to guide us, but unfortunately, the Infinite Slime Dungeon had long been cleared out.

“Hmm…”

Ara rolled her eyes, searching for something to say.

But there was hardly anything to say, looking at the empty dungeon.

“Uh, um… It’s been cleared out!”

“Yeah, yeah.”

“Hmm… A field! There’s a field!”

Ara headed towards the remaining vegetable garden.

There, a rookie slime, meeting its first guest, wiggled curiously.

“A slime?”

“This guy is a rookie! All rookies manage this garden before moving on to the next stage!”

“Rookie? Next stage?”

Ara picked up the slime.

The squishy slime bounced cutely.

“Do you want to touch it?”

“Can I?”

“Yes, you can!”

Ryu Cheon grabbed the slime and began to squish it.

Soon, it seemed she liked the texture and got completely absorbed in the slime.

“A slime. This is my first time seeing one.”

“Huh? Ryu Cheon, it’s your first time seeing a slime?”

“Yes.”

Ah, now that I think about it, Ryu Cheon was born as an level 8 awakener.

If that’s the case, she might not have had the chance to see lower-level monsters. After all, lower-level monsters don’t even produce magic stones, so they’re rarely targeted for subjugation.

“Slime. It’s cute.”

“I’m cute too.”

“Yes. Ara is cute too.”

After playing with the slime for a while, they started walking again. As they did, Ryu Cheon tilted her head.

“Did you make potions here?”

“Oh, this is just the entrance; there’s another place for that.”

“Hmm?”

Ryu Cheon had a puzzled expression, as if wondering if there was more space in a lower-level dungeon.

Ara and I, as well as Jae-seong, who had already experienced the Dungeon of Gluttony, all looked expectant.

I can’t wait to see that expressionless face filled with surprise!

We descended underground.

The area was truly empty. There was a trickling spring, but it was mostly neglected except for when the rookie slimes occasionally took a break or when Ara and I used it for washing up.

“This used to be a field too.”

“Why is there nothing here now?”

“They moved out!”

“Moved out?”

The more confused Ryu Cheon became, the more frequently Ara’s lips twitched with a smile.

And finally, the long-awaited entrance.

We passed through a cracked altar-like place and descended the stairs. The stairs had been reinforced, making them even more sturdy.

“A door?”

Ryu Cheon muttered as she noticed a door that appeared out of nowhere. Still holding Ryu Cheon’s hand, Ara turned the doorknob.

“Welcome!”

With that, Ara and Ryu Cheon disappeared into the door. Jae-seong and I followed behind them.

As soon as we entered, I checked Ryu Cheon’s reaction.

However, surprisingly, Ryu Cheon just stood there blankly without any expression. Her face was still as expressionless as ever.

“Um, what do you think…?”

Ara asked cautiously.

Then, finally, Ryu Cheon’s head slowly lowered.

She stared blankly at Ara, then lifted her head again to look around before finally locking eyes with me.

“This place…”

“Tada! This is our home!”

Ara exclaimed, spreading her arms wide.

Ryu Cheon then lifted Ara up, looking around once more.

“I’ve explored many dungeons, but this is the first time I’ve seen a place like this.”

“This is our home.”

“…Ara’s home. It’s amazing.”

Her voice sounded dazed.

I thought she wasn’t reacting, but she seemed so overwhelmed that she was stunned.

Ara, still in Ryu Cheon’s arms, gestured towards the direction of the slime village. At the same time, Woofy came running towards us from afar.

“A monster?”

“It’s Woofy!”

“Woofy.”

Ryu Cheon reached out with a trembling hand to pet Woofy, which was lying on its back, showing its belly and acting cute.

“Huff, huff.”

“Cute.”

“I’m cute too!”

“Yes. Ara is cute too.”

Hehe, I’m satisfied.

Although the reaction wasn’t as intense as I expected, it was still a satisfying response.

“Hey, bro, how far do we have to go to get more of those seafood we found earlier?”

“Hmm, it’s a bit far. If you ride Purr or Woofy, it would take about 10 hours? Maybe a little less than 10 hours?”

“Wow, that’s really far. So how big is this place?”

That’s exactly what I was thinking.

In fact, with the existence of the sea, the Dungeon of Gluttony is not just a space but could be considered a whole other world.

“I’m planning to make a proper trip there next time to gather a lot more.”

“Honestly, I think the seafood here is a bit tastier than the ones on Earth. Some of them were overwhelmingly better. I want to use them more often. I’d like to serve them to the customers at the restaurant too.”

“I’ll do my best, brother.”

As we walked as if on an outing, we soon arrived at the slime village. Ryu Cheon, who had paused there, stood still, staring at the scenery.

Various slimes were bustling around.

Their dazed, somewhat blank expressions resembled Ryu Cheon’s.

The landscaping and buildings, decorated like a village from a fairy tale, softly glowed under the dreamy starry sky.

I waited for a moment to let Ryu Cheon take it all in.

Just then, Gomgom and Soo appeared at the entrance of the village, waddling along.

“Gomgom! Soo!”

Ara, who had already gotten off Ryu Cheon’s arms and was now riding on Woofy’s back, waved her hand. Soo waddled over without any sign of caution, and Gomgom slowly approached, cautiously observing the surroundings.

“-Sooo.”

Soo, who had come running in a clumsy manner, alternated between looking at Ryu Cheon and Jae-seong, whom he was seeing for the first time, darting back and forth.

“Who’s this? So cute.”

“This is our new family member, Soo. Lee Soo.”

“You even gave him a last name?”

“It wasn’t given, it just attached itself.”

“?”

As the curious Soo continued to wander around, inspecting the new people, Ryu Cheon suddenly lifted him up.

“-Sooo.”

Like a toy that makes a sound when squeezed, Soo let out his characteristic cry and stared blankly at Ryu Cheon.

Ryu Cheon also gazed intently at Soo.

“Cute.”

Bang, bang!

Ryu Cheon declared this as if a judge had reached a verdict. It seemed that, for Ryu Cheon, the world was divided into things that were either cute or not.

“Huh, Brother?”

“Oh, you were here.”

Just then, Seon-ah appeared as well. She was taking care of a slime, but when she saw Ryu Cheon, she paused.

“Ryu Cheon?!!”

“Hello.”

Ryu Cheon, still holding Soo, bowed slightly.

They had already met during the orphanage event.

“Oh, hello. Jae, Jae-seong is here too?”

“Yeah.”

Jae-seong waved warmly like a bear, but Seon-ah, focused on Ryu Cheon, quickly greeted him and then approached cautiously.

“It’s been a while, Ms. Ryu Cheon.”

“It’s been a while. Please just call me Ryu Cheon.”

“Gasp. Can I really do that?”

She seemed excited to meet someone she admired. Even though she wanted to become a monster veterinarian, she still held a deep admiration for awakeners.

“Today, we’re just here for fun. I brought her to show around the village and the fields.”

“You did well, brother!”

Does she like it that much?

Well, if my sister is happy, then this brother is happy too.

“Then, can I leave Ryu Cheon with you and Ara for a bit? I need to talk with Jae-seong about some ingredients and cooking.”

“Sure! Leave her to us!”

“I’ll be the one to guide you!”

Spending time with our kids would make the day fly by. I wanted to show her the fairy village, the lake, and the hot springs, but I needed to talk with Jae-seong quickly.

‘Doenjang, soy sauce, gochujang!’

And soon-to-be-harvested rice.

There was quite a bit to discuss with Jae-seong.

Alon discreetly lowered his gaze, looking at something frozen in the shape of a crescent moon.

Then, he turned his attention to Maverick and spoke.

“I told you, pull yourself together.”

“I—”

As Alon confirmed that Maverick, who had hastily stood up, was now belatedly gathering himself, he turned his gaze toward “It”—no, the Exile.

The Exile, clad in the black robes of the Eastern Wind, had just moments ago been staring at Alon with eyes full of indifference and arrogance.

‘Why did things go wrong?’

Alon glanced at the Exile, his expression tense.

According to the report, the Exile was supposed to reach the fifth layer not now, but three days later.

Even that was assuming the Exile moved at a rapid pace.

Originally, it was thought that it would take more than five days for the Exile to descend to this place.

That was how it should have been.

Yet now, the Exile had reached the fifth layer.

Unknowingly, Alon’s hand trembled slightly.

The Exile standing before him had taken the form of a goblin.

With ears far too large to be human, green skin, and a hooked nose, it was clear that this was indeed a goblin.

However,

No one, including Alon, thought of this being as merely a goblin.

Those like Argonia and Himan, who had gained eyes to see the truth of the world.

Even mercenaries who did not possess such eyes.

Everyone here knew that this was not something to be understood by its mere appearance.

Its naturally overwhelming presence was enough to dominate the space itself.

Alon was no exception to this realization, and then—

“Hoo—”

It spoke.

The arrogance in its eyes had not faded.

However, the boredom that once filled them was now replaced by curiosity, which brought a smile to its face.

“You’re doing something amusing, insect.”

Its raised index finger slowly curled in, rubbing its chin.

Watching this, Alon quietly spoke.

“…Kailas.”

Because it was a lowly creature, it sought knowledge.

Because it was a lowly creature, it reached the end of its search and awakened to the law, ascending to the rank of a god.

The King of all Gluttons.

When Alon called out the name of Kailas, the curiosity in its eyes deepened.

“You even know my name? Impressive.”

Kailas brushed back his hair, now wearing a pleasant smile unlike before.

“Very well. I’m in a good mood right now, and it seems that the others are as well. I’ll show a bit of mercy.”

“Leave. And I’ll let you live.”

A proposal.

But Alon—

“Prepare for battle.”

He gave his answer by commanding the extermination squad.

“Tsk, I was going to let you live because you seemed like an amusing insect.”

Hearing this, Kailas looked at him as if gazing upon a fool.

“If you insist on drinking the punishment brew, then so be it, insect.”

He raised his hand forward once again.

“Prepare for battle!”

Argonia’s voice, shaking off the fear, signaled the start of the fight.

***

From the moment the Exile reached the fifth layer, Alon’s original plan had already become utterly useless due to the unexpected twist.

His plan was one that required a full day of dedication to execute.

However, that didn’t mean he had given up on the Exile’s extermination.

No matter how much the plan had gone awry, he still believed that they could sufficiently take down the opponent.

There were two main reasons for this.

One was that Kailas, unlike Ulthultus, had not yet fully progressed to the level of a Sage God as Alon had predicted.

The other reason was that, unlike during the battle with Ulthultus, the mercenaries were now somewhat prepared for the Exile.

Tch-!

Magic shot out from Kailas’s hand in an instant, directed toward Alon and the mercenaries.

But—

Crash!

With a sound of something breaking, Kailas’s invisible slash was blocked by the sword Argonia held.

“A Dispel Sword, is it…?! How amusing… you’ve brought something interesting.”

In Argonia’s hand was a sword that could cut through magic, one of fewer than a hundred on the continent—the Dispel Sword.

Though it could not cut through people, the sword, made solely to sever magic, was enough to slice through Kailas’s spells, as he had not yet fully reached the level of a Sage God.

Boom!

With newfound confidence, Argonia kicked off the ground and charged toward Kailas, signaling the true start of the battle.

Likewise, Maverick, equipped with a Dispel Sword based on Alon’s advice, joined the fight, while Myaon quickly used the surroundings to start firing arrows.

3 vs. 1.

Numerically, it was a fight where they had overwhelming superiority.

Thanks to Alon, the mercenaries already knew most of the types of magic Kailas would use, making them formidable opponents who put pressure on him.

However, even with the cooperation of the four mercenaries and the fact that all his spells had been neutralized,

“Heh…”

Kailas seemed to find the situation quite amusing, as a twisted smile crept onto his lips.

Then, gathering his index and middle fingers, he formed a seal and lightly raised his hand.

And—

With that, as if the previous peace had been a lie, monsters began to spring forth from the ground.

The fifth layer quickly descended into chaos.

Of course, Alon was not idle either.

“Hoo—”

Alon exhaled white breath and uttered a word.

“Ice and Snow (氷雪).”

As he formed a seal, frost began to gather in front of him.

Watching this, Alon thought to himself.

‘I need to end this as quickly as possible.’

Though the battle between Kailas and the mercenaries was holding steady, Alon knew it wouldn’t last much longer.

He could see it.

The Dispel Swords that Argonia and Maverick wielded, though they had blocked a few spells, were slowly starting to crack.

Himan’s expression was growing darker by the second.

“Shape (像).”

As he uttered another incantation, frost rose around Alon.

Then,

“Glory of the Snowy Mountains.”

A round sphere formed before Alon’s middle and ring fingers, freezing and beginning to produce snow crystals.

“The Inevitable Fate of the Blind.”

In no time, the ice flower bloomed.

The hexagonal crystal rapidly expanded, consuming the surrounding air to create a massive form,

Crack, crack, crack—!

At the center of the crystal, a beautiful spear materialized before Alon’s eyes.

And then, perfectly timed.

“Hoo—”

Rine, who had been standing behind Alon, pulled out a book from her chest and—

“Essetra-ia Amatia—”

—muttered softly.

Swish~!!!

In an instant, the magic tome spread open with a resonating hum.

Clang~!!!!!

Suddenly, dozens of layers of black chains shot out from the air and raced toward Kailas.

“P—”

Caught off guard by this unexpected situation, the Exile widened his eyes as he looked at the chains.

However—

Snap!

Before he could react, the ravenous chains had already bound his body.

With this unanticipated assistance, Alon, having gained a quicker-than-expected opportunity, wasted no time.

“Ice Spear Halberd (氷精画戟).”

Without hesitation, he cast his spell.

And then—

Crack-crack-crack-!!!!

The spear, born from the blooming ice flower, shot toward the Exile, engulfing him in an instant.

Sizzle~!

It froze everything around it, bringing silence to the fifth layer.

***

The monsters stopped moving.

Following suit, the mercenaries who had been frantically crawling out of the ground also halted.

Soon, their gazes all turned toward one point.

The ancient ruins.

In the middle of those ruins stood the enormous ice flower (氷花).

The mercenaries looked in awe at Count Palatio, who had created the ice flower.

Similarly, the guild leaders, who had been battling the Exile just moments ago, stood with their mouths agape.

Even Alon let out a small sigh of relief.

But—

Crack—!

A strange, out-of-place sound of something breaking echoed, drawing everyone’s attention to the massive ice flower.

Sizzle!

A sharp, clear sound followed.

Rumble-rumble!!!

The ice flower, which had garnered so much reverence, began to collapse.

And then—

“!”

From within the crumbling ice, the Exile calmly walked out.

Despair filled the eyes of the mercenaries.

The guild leaders, who had been fighting him, were struck with a sense of defeat.

Yet the Exile, who had brought despair and defeat to all, simply smiled lightly and spoke.

“You got me, insect.”

Kailas, with a light smile as if the previous attack had amused him, left Alon in disbelief.

According to his calculations, Kailas, who hadn’t yet become a Sage God, should have been destroyed by that direct hit.

“But it seems you still know nothing.”

Alon, staring at him in confusion, realized that the Exile’s body had no trace of ice, only shattered remnants around him.

…Did he slice through the Ice Spear Halberd with just a slash…?

As Alon masked his shock behind a neutral expression at the Exile’s absurd feat of nullifying his attack,

Kailas, still grinning, spoke again.

“Still, thanks to you, I’m in high spirits, insect.”

“So, I’ll play along with you now. Although this is still far from a perfect manifestation in my current state, it should be an entertaining game nonetheless.”

Then, he wrapped his right hand around the index finger of his raised left hand, forming a fist seal (智拳印).

“Release (解放).”

In that moment, a surge of magical energy spread out.

Sensing the danger instinctively, Argonia and Maverick, without hesitation, leapt toward the Exile, pushing off the ground.

“Vibration (振動)—”

Myaon, who had just been relaxing moments earlier, quickly nocked an arrow and fired it, while Himan raised his staff and cast a spell to intercept the Exile’s magic.

However—

Just before Argonia and Maverick’s swords reached the Exile’s neck, Myaon’s arrow pierced his heart, and Himan’s magic approached his throat.

The magic that had already spread around the Exile began to vibrate the air according to his incantation.

“Expansion (擴張).”

With that softly spoken word from the Exile—

Crack!

Alon saw it.

The bodies of Maverick and Argonia compressed and twisted in midair, as if crushed by invisible force.

Along with the burst of blood.

“The Nameless Law (無名の法道).”

The Exile’s distorted smile accompanied his low muttering.

And then—

Flash—!!!

A blinding white light filled everyone’s vision.

Round 180

Prev | TOC | Next

After a busy day, the next morning dawned bright. Ara, feeling refreshed after a good sleep, was once again energetically running around the fields, playing a game of catching bugs.

“Hmm, the Seven Deadly Sins…”

Meanwhile, I was deep in thought about Wrath. With this recent event, I had gained access to the Dungeon of Wrath, so I had a chance to take it all in. But first, I needed to gather reliable information. Ara and Mammon seemed to know about the leader, Ras, but I had no idea.

“Ara!”

“Yes!”

“Shall we go visit the Goblin Village? I want to ask you and Mammon about Ras.”

“Sounds good.”

Since we’re going, we might as well bring Frey along. I wonder what she’s been up to since the curse was lifted. I took Woofy, who was enthusiastically chewing on a bone, since Purr was nowhere to be seen, probably hanging out with Seon-ah. As we ran towards the World Tree, surrounded by soft fur, we began to see the fairies in the distance.

“Hello, everyone.”

-(^()^)

-(^()^)

The children greeted us warmly. But something was off—they all looked puffed up.

“They’ve gotten chubby!”

When we arrived at the Fairy Village, I noticed that all the other kids were also plump. I tilted my head, wondering if something had happened, and then I spotted Frey in the distance.

Flap, flap—

Frey was flapping her wings vigorously, but something about her seemed a bit strange.

“Frey?”

When I called out, Frey quickly turned her head and spotted me.

“Lord! My Lord!”

“Wait, you…”

Frey had gotten puffed up, almost like someone had blown air into her. She was even chubbier than the other children.

“Why have you gotten so round?”

“Ah, haha.”

Frey awkwardly scratched her head. She tried to jump by flapping her wings, but she couldn’t lift off because of the weight.

“After successfully cultivating the Meluca flower field, I ate all the stored food. We also celebrated the lifting of the curse. Now, out of 365 days, 348 are festival days.”

Frey had a habit of declaring a celebration at every little thing. It didn’t seem like there was any real problem; she just ate a lot.

“Isn’t the Meluca still in the early stages? I thought the flowers hadn’t bloomed since you moved the field.”

“We’re celebrating in advance! Hehe!”

Ah, this child… No sense of planning at all!

Frey, who had become so round that she looked like she might turn into a slime, finally gave up on flapping her wings and rolled over to me. Seeing this, Ara’s eyes sparkled.

“You’re rolling! That’s amazing!”

“Hehehe, it’s not that amazing.”

Frey, pleased by the praise, accepted it happily. Watching these cute creatures interact warmed my heart, so I decided to ask anyway.

“Frey, we’re going to the Goblin Village now. Want to come along?”

“Ugh.”

Frey suddenly showed hesitation and mumbled cautiously.

“Mammon keeps teasing me, saying I can’t fly even though I have wings.”

“I’ll help you practice flying later.”

“Oh! Really? Thank you, Lord!”

Leaving behind the fairies, who looked like they would roll away with just a little push, we headed toward the Goblin Village, with a brief stop at the mine.

“Heh heh.”

When we arrived at the mine, the sluggish goblins building a strange structure quickly scattered as if they were caught red-handed. Their faces were still cheerful, making it hard to read their intentions.

“What are you making this time?”

It didn’t seem like they were up to anything bad, but it was a shame they were using materials meant for the Goblin Village. But since they were so cute, I decided to let it slide.

“Kirik!”

“Kiriik!”

The goblins who were working jumped around excitedly like children, welcoming me. I handed out snacks like tomatoes, carrots, and strawberries to them and checked their progress.

“Nothing left in storage, huh?”

It seemed that as soon as they gathered materials, they were immediately used for building the village. I was looking forward to seeing the Goblin Village take shape.

“Headbutt! Stick together!”

Ara was chattering away excitedly, catching up with the slimes she hadn’t seen in a while. After a brief reunion, we continued our journey to the Goblin Village.

“Lord!”

Mammon, who had been supervising the site, came running out to greet me barefoot. On his head, instead of a crown, he was wearing a yellow construction helmet he must have found somewhere.

“Oh, it looks like you’ve got things pretty well organized already?”

“The Kkumuris are really good at their work! When it comes to construction, they’re even better with their hands than us goblins!”

If Mammon is praising them, they must be doing really well. Mammon is not one to compromise when it comes to craftsmanship.

“It’s good to hear they’re doing well.”

“I’ll guide you through the village!”

“Alright.”

Following Mammon, I toured the planned village site. Unlike the Slime Village, where everything was more spontaneous, this one felt like a carefully designed puzzle. It lacked the charm of a quaint village, but it had a certain grandness to it.

“But it’s a lot bigger than I expected.”

“Yes! Even after all our goblins move in, there will still be a lot of space left over!”

“Hmm.”

“But that’s okay! We can always welcome more settlers!”

Hearing my thoughtful hum, Mammon hastily added, “Ah! I’m glad you brought that up. While we’re here to check out the village, there’s something I wanted to ask you about.”

“Anything, just tell me!”

“Last time, you and Ara mentioned someone called Ras. I’ve got the chance to visit the dungeon where Ras lives.”

“Oh! He’s a simple and strong brute! His followers are just as simple!”

“Did you guys fight?”

“No! Ras could never be a match for me, so we didn’t really fight.”

Mammon sounded very confident. I gathered Ara and Mammon together and asked them to tell me anything they knew about Ras.

“Hmm… He’s cute?”

“He may be simple, but he can be cunning at times! When he pretends to be cute with those big eyes, he seems truly devious!”

“He’s brave!”

“He’s simple-minded, that’s for sure!”

It was clear to me now: Mammon definitely fought Ras. That was my conclusion.

“Is he dangerous?”

“Dangerous? Him? Well, if you make him angry, I guess he could be considered dangerous…”

“Ras is brave and righteous! He’s not dangerous at all!”

Simple-minded, brave, righteous, but cute? He seemed like a unique character.

“Does Ras have any special abilities? Ara can eat anything, and you can handle poison, Mammon.”

“He’s just really strong.”

“He’s a dog stronger than me!”

Is his only defining trait just strength? If that’s the case, maybe there’s not much to worry about.

“I can’t really guess until I meet him.”

“Let’s bring Ras here! He’s a cute doggy!”

“Hmm, his appearance might be cute, but his personality isn’t. Ara, you’re being fooled.”

Their conflicting opinions were confusing, but since they both said he wasn’t dangerous, I felt a bit more reassured. If he were truly dangerous, I wouldn’t even consider bringing him here. Even if I did, it could cause problems.

‘Of course, once he’s registered as a familiar, that won’t be an issue.’

No matter how dangerous a monster is, once it becomes a familiar, it can’t act on its own. I usually give my familiars a lot of freedom, but that’s because they’re all kind-hearted.

“Alright, got it. Thanks, both of you.”

“Are you really going to bring Ras? If so, let’s settle him in this village! We’ll have space left over once it’s completed!”

“Okay. I’ll give it a try.”

I’m going to the Dungeon of Wrath. If it gets dangerous, I’ll open a portal as the Lord of Gluttony and escape. Then, I’ll use a return stone. A perfect safety plan. Of course, opening a portal requires a door as a medium, but…

‘I’ve discovered a loophole.’

After conducting several experiments, I found out that the door doesn’t necessarily have to be attached to something. It just means I can carry a single door with me using Bokkeum and open the Lord of Gluttony’s portal as a workaround. Once the pass is issued, I’ll head straight there. Everyone will probably be surprised, but as long as I don’t leave any evidence, they can’t accuse me based on suspicion alone.

“Hmm, I should probably head out now.”

As I checked the time and muttered to myself, Mammon looked at me curiously.

“You’re going out again?”

“Yeah, I’m expecting a guest.”

“Oh! Could it be your parents?”

“No, I have another sibling besides Seon-ah. He’ll be coming to the dungeon with me…”

I was also supposed to meet Ryu Cheon, but I wasn’t sure if she would come to the dungeon. Ryu Wang-jin was busy with various business matters since he was in Korea.

“I’ll just stay here and supervise the construction quietly.”

“Alright, if that’s what you want to do. Oh, by the way, do you happen to have a nickname or something?”

“Nickname? The Stingy Demon King!”

“…Well, they asked if you had a pseudonym or alias for the art pieces, but ‘Stingy Demon King’ might not be the best choice…”

“Hmm, what would be a good one?”

We spent some time brainstorming. Ara, Mammon, and I all racked our brains to come up with a pseudonym Mammon could use as an artist’s name.

“How about ‘Ingo’?”

“Ingo?”

“It means ‘the Goblin of Stinginess,’ and it also means ‘enduring suffering.’”

“Oh! That’s a double meaning! I really like it!”

And so, Mammon’s pseudonym became Ingo. It sounded surprisingly fitting, almost like a real person’s name.

***

As Ara and I headed to the meeting spot, Ryu Cheon was already waiting. Jae-seong hadn’t arrived yet.

“Ryu Cheon Ryu Cheon?”

“Ara.”

Ryu Cheon, who had been sitting, quickly ran over and hugged Ara. With a hat, mask, and sunglasses, Ryu Cheon looked suspiciously bundled up to anyone watching. Adding Ara to the mix only heightened the commotion around us.

“Oh, it’s Ara.”

“Wow, it’s really Ara?”

More and more people were recognizing Ara. However, they kept their distance and just watched from afar.

‘Being famous is tiring.’

With the drama about to air, would she become even more famous? Still, since it was only a minor role in one scene, it probably wouldn’t cause too much of a stir.

“How have you been?”

“I’ve been well.”

“The medicine I sent last time, was it enough?”

“Yes.”

Though she was answering, Ryu Cheon’s attention was fully focused on Ara. Still, it was a relief to see her looking much healthier than last time.

‘It seems to be working.’

Just as I was thinking that, Ryu Cheon, who had been crouching to meet Ara’s eyes, stood up and suddenly extended her hand. As I stared blankly, she spoke.

“Shake hands.”

“Oh.”

Suddenly? I reached out and shook her hand, expressing my surprise.

“Your hand is warm!”

“It’s thanks to you.”

Wow, was this really the same Ryu Cheon who once felt like she was frozen solid? Though she still had a cold touch, it was a huge improvement compared to before.

“How’s your health now?”

“I’m so healthy that I can hardly remember how I used to be. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to that.”

“You won’t go back! With the permanent effects of the treatment, you won’t need to take my medicine anymore to maintain it. Of course, full recovery is the goal!”

I felt a rush of excitement. Helping others with my abilities was incredibly fulfilling, just as it was when I treated Si-young and Baek Seung-hyun.

‘I should keep helping people from now on.’

As long as I have the power, I want to make sure everyone around me is happy.
