Five days later.

The news that Kalman and Malian, both Baba Yagas, had targeted Seolrang’s life spread rapidly throughout the entire colony.

With the testimony of Liyan Aguileras, the daughter of the Red Tower Lord, and the mercenaries who survived the attack, the story gained widespread attention.

The public was outraged at the fact that two Baba Yagas had cowardly teamed up to take down another Baba Yaga.

As a result, they dragged down and destroyed the statues of Kalman and Malian that had been erected in the eastern part of the colony.

Similarly, the guilds associated with the two Baba Yagas quickly disbanded, and within a matter of days, all traces of Malian and Kalman vanished from the colony.

In their place, Seolrang took over.

Despite being ambushed by Malian and Kalman, Seolrang not only survived but also dealt with them, returning to immense public support.

As the testimonies of the Red Tower Lord’s daughter and the mercenaries were increasingly proven true, Seolrang’s popularity soared to unprecedented heights.

Seolrang was even beginning to be called the “First Baba Yaga” by the public, overtaking Kalman, who had held the title for the longest time.

Additionally, Count Palatio, who was known to have greatly contributed to helping Seolrang deal with the two Baba Yagas, was also gaining massive attention.

Currently, he was in the forgotten city of Kahara once more, checking something at the far eastern edge, where he hadn’t been able to visit last time.

He was looking at the inscription on the eastern stone tablet.

“Hmm.”

Alon, who had read all the words on the stone tablet during what could be considered either a long or short time, suddenly thought of a question.

‘Wait a second? How am I reading this?’

The words written on the stone tablet were not in the common language of the continent, but despite being unfamiliar, Alon could naturally decipher them.

It was as if he had been able to read them all along.

With a puzzled expression, Alon decided to stop by the central tower and ask about this before heading back.

As he turned around and began walking, he recalled the contents he had just read on the stone tablet.

‘…… About foreign gods and gods.’

The eastern stone tablet, recommended by someone who suggested it might give him a rough idea of what was happening, contained stories related to foreign gods and gods.

However, what stood out to him was that some parts differed slightly from the information he had obtained while playing Psychedelia.

“……Why are foreign gods and gods described in opposite ways here?”

In Psychedelia, foreign gods and gods were clearly distinguished.

Foreign gods referred to gods not originally from this continent but rather deities born from people’s beliefs or from otherworldly realms.

Gods, on the other hand, were beings that had existed since the beginning when there was nothing on the continent.

As far as Alon knew, the five great sins were called gods in Psychedelia, and the monstrous deity he encountered in the north was referred to as a foreign god.

But on this stone tablet, the terms were reversed—what he knew as “foreign gods” were called “gods,” and the five great sins were referred to as “foreign gods.”

Of course, the stone tablet didn’t directly mention the five great sins or the foreign gods by name.

Instead, the gods on the tablet were described in metaphors like “those who value honor,” “those who seek forgotten death,” or “those who have delved too deeply into the mysteries of magic.”

However, having played Psychedelia many times, Alon knew exactly who these metaphors referred to.

He also knew that metaphors like “the many-handed one” and “the one filled with greed and envy” were referencing the five great sins.

“Hmm-”

Alon thought for a moment before neatly folding that information away in his mind.

Except for the fact that “foreign gods” were described as “gods” and vice versa, the information he read on the stone tablet didn’t conflict with what he already knew.

This was because the stories mainly told in ‘Psychedelia’ were about the future, not the past.

‘I wish I could ask about this too.’

Alon organized the contents of the tablet in his mind as he walked toward the central tower.

***

In conclusion, Alon could not encounter ‘it’ again.

This was because the door that had once been in the center of the tower when he first arrived in the city had vanished, as if it had never been there.

He considered breaking through and climbing up, but didn’t believe he would be able to meet ‘it’ even then, so he ultimately decided to leave.

“Master!”

As soon as he stepped outside, he was greeted energetically by none other than Seolrang.

Seolrang, who had looked bored while waiting for him, beamed the moment Alon appeared.

Alon, who now sat with her in the carriage, heard:

“Let’s get married?”

It was the 19th proposal she had made in the last five days, leaving Alon with a troubled expression.

Facing Seolrang, who had placed both her hands on his knees, Alon noticed that the distance between them had grown smaller over the days.

Of course, Alon hadn’t moved closer—Seolrang had been the one to close the gap.

“Hm?”

Seolrang perked up her ears and tilted her head slightly.

Watching her tail swaying behind her, Alon let out a soft sigh.

At first, it had felt heartwarming, like a cute daughter saying, “I want to marry daddy!” But now, it was becoming a bit troublesome.

“…………As I said before, I think of you as family.”

This was his 19th response.

“But we’re not ‘really’ family!”

And it was her 19th rebuttal.

“If we get married, everything will be solved!”

“What problem?”

“We’ll become real family!”

Alon, looking at Seolrang’s face filled with the expression of someone thinking, ‘I’m a genius!’, couldn’t help but feel like this conversation had become like a dialogue loop in a game.

“Do you even know what getting married means?”

Alon, deciding to press the conversation forward a bit, asked this question after they had come to the same conclusion 19 times.

“Of course! I’m confident I can make Master happy!”

However, realizing that even if he continued this discussion, the content would just circle back, he sighed.

“Seolrang, marriage is a serious matter. Think about it more carefully.”

“I ‘am’ serious!”

“……Think even more seriously.”

With that, he closed his mouth.

At this point, he had no thoughts of marrying anyone.

Additionally, even though he hadn’t raised her himself, Alon still felt that Seolrang was more like an affectionate daughter to him.

‘She’ll stop saying things like this after a few years.’

Some time passed, and by the time Seolrang’s pout from being rejected multiple times faded away, they arrived back at the colony.

Alon immediately prepared to leave.

He would have preferred to leave a bit later, but due to the nature of the desert crossing, it was safer to travel with the merchant group that departed at specific intervals.

And so.

“Let’s meet again next time.”

“Alright! You have to answer me then!”

“……Sure.”

Leaving behind a promise that felt like an empty pledge, Alon departed from the colony.

***

Seolrang watched Alon and the merchant group disappear into the distance, only turning back to the guild once the carriage was no longer in sight.

The guild, from which Ralga and her traitorous clan members had vanished, remained unchanged.

Ralga’s betrayal had enraged the clan that Seolrang had gathered, and many of them were genuinely concerned for her, having been shocked by the betrayal.

The guild, which Seolrang thought was slowly becoming the ideal organization she had envisioned, should have brought her satisfaction.

‘Should have.’

“Haa-”

Seolrang let out a soft sigh.

Instead of the usual smile she always wore, her face was now expressionless.

It was because she had gained a certain realization from this experience.

No matter how hard she tried, she could never regain the happiness she felt when she was younger.

“I don’t want that.”

Seolrang’s disinterested muttering quietly echoed through the empty room.

It sounded normal, but in reality, her voice carried a hint of gloom.

The realization that the happiness she believed she could find by creating a “family” was merely an illusion left her with a sense of loss.

She had genuinely believed that if she gathered her clan and returned to how things were before, she could once again feel happiness.

But even in the midst of that sense of loss, a smile began to creep across her face, and it was all because of one person.

Alon.

In that moment, Seolrang recalled how, during Kalman’s attack, Alon had trusted her completely and stood still, preparing his magic without taking a single step.

She also remembered how, when Ralga launched her surprise attack, Alon had thrown himself without hesitation to save her.

He had shown her the image of an ideal family, not through words, but through his actions—like a great moon guiding her.

Seolrang’s tail swayed happily.

In just the week she had spent with the great moon, she had glimpsed the path to the “happiness” she had not found in the clan she had gathered over two years.

The path toward the happiness she sought.

Of course, he wasn’t family yet, but that didn’t matter.

If he wasn’t family ‘yet’, then all she had to do was make him family.

“I want to get married~”

Seolrang murmured the words she had already said many times before, a cheerful smile on her face.

Her heart pounded with excitement at the thought of the happiness she would reclaim once the great moon became her family.

But unfortunately, Seolrang also knew that this couldn’t happen immediately.

For now, she still had the task of forming a personal guard to protect the great moon and serve him.

“……”

In fact, Seolrang hadn’t initially given much thought to that task.

She had assumed that as long as she gathered enough of her clan, the task given to her by the great moon would be taken care of on its own.

But now, things were different.

To her, the great moon was no longer just a Master—he had become someone indispensable.

So, she had to.

‘Create it.’

Seolrang resolved.

‘No matter the situation, a personal guard that can protect him from any danger.’

Her golden eyes shone brightly with determination.

***

The night of Alon’s departure from the colony.

“By the way, did you check?”

“You mean the ones in Seolrang’s guild? I’ve checked everyone, and aside from Ralga and those who were dealt with this time, no one seems to be showing any suspicious activity.”

Hearing Evan’s report, Alon nodded.

After returning from the ruins, Alon had ordered an investigation through the information guild to see if there were any other suspicious figures within Seolrang’s guild, similar to Ralga.

The reason, of course, was that it would be a problem if Seolrang were hurt again.

‘I’d rather avoid any unnecessary complications.’

Once was manageable, but he wasn’t confident that everything would be fine if it happened again. So, Alon intended to deal with any potential problems in advance.

“Well, that’s a relief.”

“And since we have the money you gave us, I’ve instructed them to continue briefing us on any developments that might arise.”

“Good job.”

After replying to Evan, Alon finally felt like his work in the colony was mostly wrapped up, and he let out a deep sigh, leaning against the carriage.

Although it seemed like the tasks were done, unfortunately, he wasn’t entirely finished.

‘…There’s still one more foreign god to deal with…’

Additionally, the new knowledge he had gained kept floating around in his mind.

From the reversed roles of the foreign gods and the gods, to the mysterious being’s mention of *order*.

But above all.

”Sulli’ (順理).’

Alon recalled a fragment of hidden truth about this world—something he had never heard or seen during his time playing Psychedelia.

‘Is it finally time to go there?’

He continued to ponder, remembering the destination filled with countless inscriptions that he had been meaning to visit for a long time.

At that moment.

[Me]

In the regular meeting that all members of the Blue Moon, including those from the colony, were required to attend, the previously peaceful atmosphere had suddenly—

[I’m going to marry the great moon!!]

[Wha-….?]

[…]

—been replaced by a storm.

A rather fierce storm.

[Spirit Contract LV. 1]

– Grade: E

– Type: Active

– Experience: 0.00%

– Description: Allows you to summon and form a contract with a spirit.

– Spirit Power Consumption: 1,000

– Number of Spirits Contracted: 0/1

The skill received upon clearing the quest was to contract with a spirit. It was a skill that a spirit farmer would naturally possess.

“Not bad.”

There was no need to hesitate. Hiro immediately used the skill.

[You have used the Spirit Contract skill.]

[The skill experience of Spirit Contract has increased significantly.]

[Summoning a spirit.]

Vroooom!

A massive magic circle appeared on the ground, emitting a bright light.

[The summoned spirit’s attribute will be random.]

[A spirit is being summoned.]

Flash!

As the light from the magic circle faded, a fox appeared at its center. It had gray fur overall, with the tip of its tail tinged in blue, making it look quite cute.

[You have summoned a Water Spirit.]

‘A Water Spirit?’

Ding!

[Hidden Piece Discovered!]

[You are the first Envoy to meet and directly summon a spirit.]

[You have obtained the hidden title: “Hey! Become My Comrade!”]

[Hey! Become My Comrade!]

– Grade: Hidden (Unique)

– Condition to Obtain: Be the first Envoy to summon a spirit.

– Option: All Stats +10, Spirit Power +10, Spirit Power Recovery Speed +10%

– Description: Spirit! You’re mine!

Hiro had earned a title.

‘But isn’t this the Spirit Realm? Isn’t this where spirits live…?’

“Then how is a spirit being summoned here?”

Hiro tilted his head in confusion. The spirit’s condition seemed oddly abnormal.

“It hurts… Kyu…”

The Water Spirit collapsed. Only then did Hiro clearly see the spirit’s condition.

“You’re injured?”

Blood stained the Water Spirit’s body. It was breathing heavily, clearly in distress. Seeing the Water Spirit collapse and struggle to breathe, Hiro’s mind filled with many thoughts.

‘Pepper used to be like this, too.’

Pepper was the name of a dog Hiro had once raised. It was a stray they’d found while on a family trip. Tied to a tree, it came with a note.

‘The note said this:’

– “We’re moving, and the dog is too big for us to keep. Please take good care of it.”

Even now, remembering it made Hiro angry. If they were moving, they should’ve found a place where they could live with the dog. Abandoning it, tied to a tree at a tourist site, was beyond comprehension.

What made it worse was…

‘Are you laughing? You think this is funny?’

The note infuriated him further. Pepper had been left tied up for so long that it was starving and whimpering. People passed by, unwilling to take responsibility.

‘But we brought Pepper home and took care of it. We stayed together for a few years until it finally crossed the Rainbow Bridge.’

Is that why? Seeing the Water Spirit lying limp, Hiro was reminded of Pepper from that day.

“First, we need to treat it… but… since it’s an animal, should I call a vet?”

“No… it’s a spirit. I should start by restoring its life force… Oh!”

At that moment, something came to Hiro’s mind: eating Earth Sweet Potatoes had the effect of restoring life force. Hiro quickly went outside and came back with an Earth Sweet Potato.

“Here, eat this.”

Hiro sliced the sweet potato in half, placing it in front of the Water Spirit. Soon, the Water Spirit’s nose twitched as it caught the scent and began to react.

“Mmm… it smells delicious… Kyu!”

The Water Spirit opened its eyes and started nibbling on the sweet potato.

Chomp, chomp!

“It’s… delicious!”

Wag, wag!

Had it been starving for a long time? The Water Spirit devoured the sweet potato with enthusiasm, wagging its tail energetically. It was a curious sight—while the sound of a person eating could be annoying, the sound of an animal eating was strangely comforting.

Chomp, chomp!

“Is it good?”

“It’s delicious! So good, kyu!! Chomp, chomp!!”

‘A talking fox? This really is a fascinating game.’

It was surprising that the fox could talk, but considering it was a game and a spirit, it made sense.

‘The wound is healing.’

A faint glow enveloped the Water Spirit’s body, indicating that the sweet potato’s effect was taking hold, restoring its life force.

“You’re eating well.”

Hiro smiled contentedly, gently patting the Water Spirit. At first, the spirit seemed startled, but it didn’t pull away from Hiro’s touch. Its body trembled slightly.

‘Did something happen to it?’

It looked very exhausted.

“Kyu…”

“Did you finish it?”

“Kyu… Yes!”

The Water Spirit devoured the entire Earth Sweet Potato in no time and patted its now-round belly.

“It was delicious!”

[The Water Spirit’s favorability has greatly increased.]

The sweet potato seemed to please the spirit greatly, as a big smile spread across its face. Hiro felt pleased too. After all, no farmer would be unhappy seeing their harvest enjoyed so much.

It felt good.

“But…”

[The Water Spirit senses a strong, natural scent from you.]

“Did you… summon me, kyu?”

“Yes.”

At that, a spark of light appeared in the Water Spirit’s small, black eyes.

[The Water Spirit’s favorability has greatly increased.]

[You can now form a contract with the Water Spirit.]

“Will you make a contract with me?”

“Kyu!”

[Contract established.]

[The skill experience of Spirit Contract has greatly increased.]

[Please name the spirit.]

‘Name?’

A sudden message prompting Hiro to name it. After a moment of hesitation, Hiro slowly spoke.

“Pepper. From now on, your name is Pepper.”

“Kyu!”

[The Water Spirit has been named ‘Pepper.’]

[Pepper’s favorability has greatly increased.]

Ding!

[You have achieved an accomplishment.]

[You are the first Envoy to become a contracted Spirit Master.]

[You have obtained the title, ‘First Contractor.’]

[First Contractor]

– Grade: A (Unique)

– Condition to Obtain: Be the first to form a contract with a spirit.

– Option: Spirit Power +10, Spirit Power Recovery Speed +10%, Spirit Magic Attack Power +5%

– Description: Are you… the master who summoned me?

“Master!!”

Pepper leaped into Hiro’s arms, snuggling close.

“Nuzzle, nuzzle.”

“Master, kyu…”

“Hahaha, that tickles!”

“Hehe… Kyu…”

“But, hey. Why were you injured when you were summoned?”

“That’s because I was fighting, kyu!”

“Fighting?”

“Kyu!”

Here’s what happened: before being summoned, Pepper had been attacked by a monster and was fleeing. Cornered in a dead-end, it was on the brink of death.

“So, I summoned you at that moment?”

“Kyu! Yes! Master, you’re my lifesaver, kyu!”

Pepper expressed affection by licking Hiro’s face, making him feel a bit ticklish.

“Ugh, not the lips!”

“Kyu!”

“Get down for now.”

“Kyu!”

Wiping the saliva off his face, Hiro asked, “Where were you, anyway?”

“I’m not sure, kyu! But it’s far from here!”

If Pepper had been nearby before being summoned, there might have been a need to be on guard, as the monster that attacked Pepper could follow. Thankfully, that didn’t seem to be the case.

“Then…”

Ding!

[Quest ‘Offer Sweet Potatoes to the Altar! Again!’ has been generated.]

[Offer Sweet Potatoes to the Altar! Again!]

– Grade: E

– Description: Offer sweet potatoes to the altar. You may gain something you need right now.

– Success Condition: Offer 100 Earth Sweet Potatoes to the altar.

– Success Reward: Skill, ???

– Failure Penalty: An unknown entity becomes disappointed.

“…Again?”

After offering sweet potatoes earlier, 198 were left. Reluctantly, Hiro gathered 100 sweet potatoes and placed them on the altar, which instantly made them disappear.

[Quest ‘Offer Sweet Potatoes to the Altar! Again!’ has been cleared.]

[Skill ‘Watering LV. 1’ has been acquired.]

[The unknown entity is very pleased with your sweet potatoes.]

[The unknown entity’s favorability has greatly increased.]

[You can receive a special gift from the unknown entity.]

[You have obtained the Ancient Magic Lighter.]

“Huh?”

The quest rewards were a skill and an item.

But…

“…A lighter?”

Hiro examined the lighter.

[Ancient Magic Lighter]

– Grade: A

– Description: A lighter created long ago in the ancient Magic Tower, used for igniting fires. It is resistant to wind and, due to its ancient magic, produces a special flame that doesn’t extinguish easily, even in rain. It has adjustable firepower.

– Usage Requirement: Spirit Farmer

– Option: Duration +100%

“This is… just like the kind of lighter you’d find in a bar.”

He never imagined he’d acquire a lighter in the game instead of matches.

“The fire… works well. That’s convenient.”

He had been craving roasted sweet potatoes but had no way to make a fire until now. This made it possible.

“Check!”

[Watering LV. 1]

– Grade: E

– Type: Active

– Experience: 0.00%

– Description: Sprinkles water infused with the spirit’s power, accelerating the growth of crops.

– Spirit Power Consumption: 300

– Cooldown: 1 second

– Effect: Crop Growth Acceleration +20%, Germination Rate +5%

“Oh! Just what I needed!!!”

He had been worried about the dried-up well and the upcoming harvest. The new skill came just in time.

“Pepper.”

“Kyu?”

“Watering!”

[You have used the Watering skill.]

Vroooom.

“Kyu!”

As the skill activated, droplets formed around Pepper’s mouth and soon splashed out. Though it wasn’t an offensive skill and was somewhat weak, it would work just fine for farming.

“Kyu!”

“Alright. Let’s head outside.”

Hiro and Pepper stepped outside.

‘Now that I have a lighter, I’d like to roast some sweet potatoes, but…’

“But before that…”

Hiro picked up a sweet potato and used the skill.

“Seed Extraction!”

[You have used the Seed Extraction skill.]

[Extracting seeds from the Earth Sweet Potato.]

Ding!

[Seed Extraction successful.]

[You have obtained 1 Earth Sweet Potato Seed.]

[The skill experience of Seed Extraction has slightly increased.]

[You have gained job experience.]

“That’s lucky.”

The success rate wasn’t very high, but he managed it on the first try.

“Check!”

[Earth Sweet Potato Seed]

– Grade: E

– Description: Seeds capable of cultivating Earth Sweet Potatoes infused with spirit power. They can grow well in barren soil.

– Usage Requirement: Permission from a Spirit Farmer.

– Option: Growth Speed +10%, Germination Rate +5%

“It’s different from the ones I planted.”

The new seed differed slightly from the ones bought from the Farmer’s Guild, but it didn’t seem to matter much.

Hiro gazed at the 97 remaining sweet potatoes.

“Guess I’ll keep going.”

“Kyu!”

“Seed Extraction!!”

[Seed Extraction skill…]

[The skill experience of Seed Extraction has slightly increased.]

[Skill Level Up!]

[Seed Extraction LV. 1 -> Seed Extraction LV. 2]

“Oh! It leveled up!”

The cooldown decreased from 10 to 9 seconds, and the success rate increased from 10% to 15%. Not bad.

“Seed Extraction!!”

That day, Hiro used the skill on 98 sweet potatoes, obtaining 53 seeds.

“Let’s start farming.”

“I’ll help, kyu!!”

Pepper responded enthusiastically. Hiro grinned and picked up his hoe.

“Let’s begin!”

It was Day 28 since starting the Overlord. Hiro had formed a contract with a spirit and started his second sweet potato farm.

“Phew… I’m so full.”

Hiro finished his quick meal with a convenience store lunchbox. It might have been from the convenience store, but it wasn’t to be underestimated. Nowadays, convenience store lunchboxes had such good variety that you could have a full meal for half the price of eating at a restaurant.

‘Paying 15,000 won for a bowl of sundae soup is way too expensive.’

In comparison, convenience store lunchboxes were around 7,000 won, making them much more affordable.

Hiro tidied up quickly and then checked the “Overlord” community on his phone.

“As expected, nothing.”

With millions of players enjoying the game, the community was massive. Thousands of posts were made daily, many of which were strategy guides. Hiro searched for topics like “Spirit Farmer” and “Spirit Realm,” but nothing came up.

‘So, I’m the first?’

“It seems good, but it might be equally risky.”

Being the first was exciting, but there was no information available, making the potential dangers unclear. He figured it was best to focus on farming near the temple, gradually expanding his territory while getting a feel for the surroundings.

“That’s it. As long as I can farm for now.”

Hiro let his meal digest before heading to his room and lying down in the capsule.

[Please select the game you wish to play.]

“Overlord.”

[Launching Overlord.]

***

Two weeks had passed in real-world time since then. Considering the 1:2 game-to-real-world time ratio, that meant four weeks in the game world.

Hiro looked at the completely dried-up well with a troubled expression.

‘I was barely managing with water… Now I can’t even farm, let alone drink.’

Water is fundamental to farming. Crops can only grow with a water supply, but the well had dried up, leaving him unable to access any water.

‘Is there a river somewhere?’

It wouldn’t be surprising if there was a river or small lake in the forest. However…

“No, it’s too dangerous.”

With no knowledge of what might be lurking in the forest, it would be risky to venture out in search of water. Hiro decided to put off the water search and headed to his field instead.

“Let’s see.”

He carefully dug into the soil with a beginner’s shovel, checking the state of the sweet potatoes.

Thick sweet potatoes shyly revealed themselves.

‘Maybe because it’s a game, the crops grow fast.’

“They look good. I think it’s time to harvest.”

The sweet potatoes were ripe and ready for harvest.

Ding!

[Quest ‘Sweet Potato Harvest’ has been generated.]

[Sweet Potato Harvest]

Grade: F

Description: The end of farming is harvest. Just as patience is bitter but the fruit is sweet, it’s time to see the results of your hard work. Harvest the sweet potatoes.

Success Condition: Harvest sweet potatoes.

Rewards: Job skill, experience points, beginner’s hoe.

Penalty for Failure: None.

[Do you accept?]

“Accept.”

Hiro accepted the quest and put on his gloves, a reward he received from clearing the Seed Sowing Quest.

“Check!”

[Farming Gloves]

Grade: F

Description: Gloves designed to protect a farmer’s hands.

When worn, they protect the hands.

Requirements: Farmer.

Durability: 468/500

Options: -5% stamina consumption during work; maintains cleanliness.

With his white gloves on, Hiro carefully dug into the ground with a shovel to harvest the sweet potatoes.

[You have used the Harvesting skill.]

[Harvesting Speed +10%]

[-10% stamina consumption during harvesting]

[Skill experience for Harvesting has slightly increased.]

[You have harvested sweet potatoes from the ground.]

[You have gained job experience.]

“Oh, they’re nicely ripened!”

Hiro smiled with satisfaction as he harvested the sweet potatoes. They were as big as his forearm, making him marvel at their size.

“So big.”

“Beautiful….”

The radiant sight of the sweet potatoes was mesmerizing. While he had grown and harvested sweet potatoes when he had gone back to farming in real life, this was on a different level. The fresh sweet potatoes looked delicious just from their appearance.

‘Come to think of it, these were called “Earth’s Sweet Potatoes,” right?’

“Check!”

[Earth’s Sweet Potatoes]

Grade: E

Description: Sweet potatoes grown under the attentive care of a Spirit Farmer. Infused with spirit energy.

When consumed, the effects last for 60 minutes.

Cultivator: Hiro.

Options: +10 Stamina, +5% Defense, +5% Vitality, +1,000 Vitality Recovery, +30% Fullness.

“What the…?”

Hiro was shocked by the sweet potato’s options. They were unbelievable.

He then compared it with other sweet potatoes posted by other farmers in the Overlord community.

[Delicious Chestnut Sweet Potato]

Grade: E

Description: A sweet potato carefully cultivated using good fertilizer and nutrients.

When consumed, the effects last for 15 minutes.

Cultivator: Rugel.

Options: +3 Stamina, +3% Vitality, +500 Vitality Recovery, +15% Fullness.

Though the grade was the same, Hiro’s sweet potato had far superior options. Even the duration of the effects was much longer, making it much more useful.

Ding!

[You are the first player to harvest sweet potatoes infused with spirit energy.]

[Earth’s Sweet Potatoes can now only be cultivated by Spirit Farmer ‘Hiro.’]

[No one can cultivate or breed Earth’s Sweet Potatoes without your permission.]

[You have obtained the title ‘Greedy Farmer.’]

[Greedy Farmer]

Grade: B (Unique)

Condition: Harvest a special crop infused with spirit energy.

Options: +10 Spirit Power, +10% Spirit Recovery Rate, Double effects when consuming exclusive crops.

Description: Hehehe… This is mine… No one can touch it! My Precious!

“Unique grade?”

In Overlord, titles had separate classifications of ‘Common’ and ‘Unique,’ apart from their grade. ‘Common’ titles could be obtained by anyone who met the conditions, while ‘Unique’ titles were given only to the first player to meet the conditions, making it unattainable for others afterward.

‘Unique titles are said to have the best options among titles of the same grade, right?’

The title’s options were indeed excellent for a B-grade. Not only did it raise his stats, but the double effects on exclusive crops were a major benefit.

“Not bad.”

With a satisfied smile, Hiro continued harvesting.

[You have used the Harvesting skill.]

He carefully harvested the sweet potatoes to avoid damaging them.

Ding!

[You have cleared the ‘Sweet Potato Harvest’ quest.]

[You have obtained the job skill ‘Seed Harvesting LV. 1.’]

[You have gained experience.]

[You have leveled up.]

[You have obtained a Beginner’s Hoe.]

He completed the quest and received his rewards.

‘Seed Harvesting?’

Hiro checked the new skill.

[Seed Harvesting LV. 1]

Grade: F

Type: Active

Experience: 0.00%

Description: Harvest seeds from plants for cultivation.

Spirit Power Consumption: 50

Cooldown: 10 seconds.

Success Rate: 10%

Effect: +5% seed harvesting success rate.

“A seed-harvesting skill, huh?”

He was lucky. He had been worrying about how to continue farming after planting the sweet potatoes. Now he had the exact skill he needed.

‘I was even considering replanting the harvested sweet potatoes if needed.’

Even without seeds, it was possible to plant sweet potatoes again, though there were a few conditions to consider. But with this skill, it wasn’t necessary anymore.

“Alright.”

Hiro examined the harvested sweet potatoes.

He had around 300 sweet potatoes, with a germination rate of roughly 60%.

“Better than expected. I guess leveling up will help?”

Germination rate was crucial in farming since a higher rate meant more crops. While fertilizers and nutrients could boost it further, they weren’t currently available.

“Let’s see…”

In Hiro’s hand rested a heavy sweet potato, proudly displayed. He gripped it firmly and split it in half.

Crack!

“Oh!”

As soon as it was split open, a sweet fragrance wafted from the sweet potato, making Hiro marvel at the aroma. At the same time, he felt proud. From sowing the seeds to diligently watering and nurturing them, he had poured his efforts into cultivating this sweet potato. Seeing the result with his own eyes gave him a sense of accomplishment.

“This is why I farm.”

A satisfied smile spread across Hiro’s face. The sweet potatoes had grown to a perfect size for harvest.

“Shall I have a taste?”

It was a pity. If he had a fire, he could have roasted it, but he currently lacked any tools to start a fire.

Hiro ate the sweet potato raw.

Crunch, crunch.

“Mmm!? It’s really good!”

Even just biting into the raw sweet potato, he could taste its rich sweetness and nuttiness. The flavor was deep and satisfying.

Crunch, crunch.

“Mm-hmm!”

The more he chewed, the stronger the nutty flavor became, and the distinct texture of the sweet potato was delightful. It was delicious. No sweet potato he had ever tasted in real life could compare to this one. It was heavenly!

“It’s even tastier than Dangjin or Haenam sweet potatoes. Ah… this is it.”

[You have consumed the exclusive ‘Earth’s Sweet Potato.’]

[The ‘Greedy Farmer’ title effect doubles the effects of Earth’s Sweet Potato.]

[Effects will last for 120 minutes.]

[+20 Stamina]

[+10% Defense]

[+10% Vitality]

[+2,000 Vitality Recovery]

[+30% Fullness]

“Wow… these options are insane.”

The stats were so impressive that it was hard to believe they came from a crop. This was the power of a Spirit Farmer—an EX-class special profession, considered one of the best.

‘Now that I think about it…’

“My level increased, didn’t it?”

Hiro opened his status window.

[Status Window]

Name: Hiro

Level: 3

EXP: 32.98%

Job: Spirit Farmer

Title: Discoverer of the Spirit Realm

Vitality: 2,500/2,500

Spirit Power: 4,500/4,500

Fullness: 77%

<Attributes>

Strength: 5

Stamina: 5 + 20

Agility: 5

Wisdom: 5

Luck: 5

<Special Attributes>

Spirit Power: 5 + 40

Available Stat Points: 15

“How should I allocate my stats? Should I put them into special attributes?”

If he were an ordinary farmer, increasing strength and stamina would be the way to go, but for a Spirit Farmer, it was still unclear which attributes to prioritize. Once distributed, stat points couldn’t be reverted, so he had to be cautious.

‘Still, since skills require spirit power, maybe boosting spirit power is…’

“Hmm… I’ll decide later.”

Hiro closed the window without making any changes.

“First, let’s sort these sweet potatoes…”

Ding!

“Hm?”

[A new quest, ‘Offer Sweet Potatoes to the Altar,’ has been generated.]

[Offer Sweet Potatoes to the Altar]

Grade: ???

Description: Offer sweet potatoes at the altar of the forgotten god’s temple.

Offering the sweet potatoes might grant you a special gift.

Success Condition: Offer 100 sweet potatoes at the altar.

Reward: Job skill, EXP, ???

Penalty for Failure: An unknown being becomes dejected.

“What’s this?”

It was a sudden quest.

“By ‘altar,’ do they mean the one inside the temple?”

Hiro pondered for a moment. His original plan was to sell the harvested sweet potatoes for money. However…

‘It says I’ll receive a special gift, right?’

“But if I fail… an unknown being will become dejected? What the…?”

He wasn’t sure what that meant, but with the promise of a job skill as a reward, he had no reason not to try.

“Alright then…”

Hiro gathered 100 sweet potatoes and headed to the altar inside the temple, placing them upon it.

Ding!

[You have cleared the quest, ‘Offer Sweet Potatoes to the Altar.’]

[You have obtained the job skill ‘Spirit Contract LV. 1.’]

[You have gained experience.]

[Your level has increased.]

[The favorability of an unknown being has greatly increased.]

Round 158

“Uhm…”

“Uhm… nothing’s wrong, right?”

I whispered to the guild master during a brief moment on the way home. No matter how I thought about it, I couldn’t believe that someone at the director level had come all the way here just to see me.

“No, there’s nothing wrong. It seems they just came to see you out of curiosity.”

“They just came to see me?”

At that moment, Jeong So-yeon, who was beside me, reassured me not to worry.

“When I became the youngest to reach level 6, I can’t tell you how often they came to see me. It’s always been that way when they discover a talented individual or an awakened one, so you don’t need to worry too much.”

“Well, it’s only natural for them to manage you at a government level since you became the youngest to reach level 6. But for me……………”

Me?

While speaking, I suddenly recalled the things I had done until now.

‘Huh?’

I joined Ara Hongryeon, cured Si-young and Baek Seung-hyun. After that, I also went to support the dungeon break incident in China, and I dealt with the Iron-blooded and Terror guilds.

Even considering small incidents like visiting the Skyscraper or my connection with Junichi, these were events that a regular awakened person would find hard to experience in a lifetime.

Could I be more amazing than I thought?

When I stopped speaking, the guild master and Jeong So-yeon grinned at me. Their expressions seemed to say, “Did you just realize it?”

“This is the main family!”

“The main family?”

“The Grand Lord is here in the main family. Everyone be cautious.”

“Grand Lord?”

While conversing with the guild members, Ara and the headquarter staff were talking behind us. From the content, it seemed like they were talking about a lair where a terrifying monster resides. Of course, before coming to meet me, they seemed to have researched in advance, as they already knew about Ara’s information and YouTube, among others.

Thanks to this, while listening to Ara, they looked at me with interest, as if gazing at a cute niece.

“By the way, I wonder if being invited to your home is too presumptuous.”

“I was more worried. Would it be inconvenient for you to be invited to my home…?”

“No! Meeting and talking at a place that the Awakened Kyu-seong prefers is the top priority.”

Director Jeon Young-joo, contrary to the prejudices associated with high-ranking public officials, treated me with a surprisingly humble demeanor.

Because of this, I felt more awkward and didn’t know where to place myself. Anyway, we went up to the house.

As we opened the door and entered, my mother and Seon-ah, who were setting the table, greeted us.

“Oh, welcome.”

“Oh my. Excuse us.”

When my mother greeted them, Jeon Young-joo bowed her head and greeted back.

“I am Jeon Young-joo from the Awakeners Headquarters.”

“I am Gang Kyung-heon.”

“I am Park Soo-yeon!”

“Welcome, everyone. Guild master Seok-jun, please come in, and So-yeon, too.”

My mother, delighted that guests related to me had come after a long time, urged us eagerly with a bright face.

After a brief greeting, we naturally moved toward the dining table.

“Please have a seat.”

“Oh, this is…”

Team leader Gang Kyung-heon’s eyes sparkled as he looked at the food set on the table. A delicious aroma was already wafting through the air, and Jeong So-yeon had been gulping her saliva since entering the house.

“Luckily, the food is ready just in time.”

“Shall we eat before having our conversation?”

As my mother and I spoke, people checked each other’s reactions first. They seemed slightly uncomfortable about getting a meal right after arriving.

Then, with a thrilled expression, Jeong So-yeon nodded heartily and shouted, “Thank you for the meal!”

“Hehe. Please, have a lot.”

A large bowl filled with potato noodles. When I picked up the noodles, mixed with the savory batter, steam rose.

The broth, made with kelp, anchovies, and other ingredients, had a rich flavor enhanced by the diced potatoes used as garnish.

“Gulp.”

Without realizing it, my mouth watered.

But I held back my desire to eat and waited for the others to start eating first.

“Are all these dishes made by Kyu-seong…?”

“Yes. Although they’re not items, I cultivated them myself.”

“Ohh.”

At that moment, Ara, who could no longer hold back, urgently stirred her fork.

“Can I eat? Can I eat?”

“Yes, let’s eat.”

Apparently, Ara wasn’t the only one holding back, as Jeong So-yeon quickly chimed in.

“This time, I’ll really enjoy the meal!”

“Eat as much as you want. There’s plenty more.”

“Wow! Really? I’ll eat a lot, Mother!”

Hoo~! Hoo~!

Slurp!

Jeong So-yeon immediately started slurping the noodles.

Seeing this, Ara didn’t want to be outdone and started twirling her fork.

Slurp!

Seeing them, the staff from the Awakeners Headquarters also picked up their chopsticks.

“Thank you for the meal.”

“We should be the ones treating you to a meal… Thank you for the food, Mother.”

Watching everyone start eating, my mother, Seon-ah, and I also began to eat the noodles.

Slight bounce!

When I picked up the noodles with chopsticks, I could feel the firm texture resisting. The noodles had become more chewy with the potatoes mixed in.

Normally, when eating something with broth, it’s customary to take a sip of the broth first, but this time, it was hard to resist.

“Hoo.”

After blowing on the steaming noodles once, I brought them to my mouth. Soon, the noodles soaked in broth slid into my mouth with a slurp!

‘Wow!’

As I chewed the noodles, I couldn’t help but admire them.

The potato noodles, mixed with the rich broth, provided a chewy texture and a satisfying feeling that filled my mouth.

As the savory and rich flavor of the potatoes intensified with each chew, I lifted the bowl to drink the broth.

Gulp, gulp.

“Ah.”

This is what you call refreshing.

While using the chopsticks again, I checked how others were doing, and everyone was engrossed in eating the noodles.

Jeon Young-joo was repeatedly wiping the beads of sweat from her forehead while gulping down the noodles, and the other two team leaders also seemed absorbed in eating.

“Can I have another bowl?!”

“I also want another bowl!”

Ara and Jeong So-yeon, as if competing, were already holding their emptied bowls. I had just taken three bites, and they had already finished?

“Hoo, hoo.”

Guild Master Han Seok-jun, rarely seen with his glasses fogged up, was also diligently eating.

“Wow, this is amazing.”

Seon-ah mumbled as she wiped off her sweat.

It seemed as if she was curing a hangover with this meal.

After Jeong So-yeon and Ara finished their noodle refills, I reached for the side dishes with my chopsticks.

Stir-fried eggplant.

It was a dish I liked since childhood, and recently, my mother often made it with the produce I grew, serving it as a side dish.

Juicy!

As soon as I bit into it, the rich moisture of the eggplant burst out and slid down my throat. The distinctive aroma of eggplant, well sautéed in oil, stimulated my taste buds.

This time, I turned my gaze to the tomato egg stir-fry. It was a nostalgic dish I used to make when I was too lazy to prepare breakfast during my college days before my farming success.

Fluffy eggs with cute cherry tomatoes nestled within them. I picked them up together and put them in my mouth.

“Mm…?”

Ah, this is happiness.

This is the taste of life.

The appropriately seasoned soft eggs were excellent, and the cherry tomatoes, with their perfect acidity and fresh sweetness, topped off the flavor.

When my mouth felt stimulated, I took another sip of the noodle broth.

Yes, this is it.

“Ah.”

The involuntary exclamation that escaped was amusing even to myself, but there was no better expression of satisfaction.

“What is this noodle made of?”

Jeon Young-joo, who had served herself another bowl of noodles, asked, stammering slightly.

“The dough is a mix of potatoes and dungeon plants.”

“Potatoes! No wonder the aroma from the noodles is so rich!”

She soon finished the conversation and started slurping the noodles again. It seemed she really liked the noodles.

“One more bowl!”

“One more bowl!”

Before I knew it, Jeong So-yeon and Ara were on their fourth bowl of noodles.

The side dishes that had been served were also cleanly finished. In fact, since we didn’t know how many people would come, we had prepared enough for about twenty people, but all that food was now gone.

“Ugh.”

Eventually, everyone let out a satisfied sigh after finishing the large quantity of noodles.

Ara, sitting next to me, let out a cute burp and patted her stomach.

“Ha, I can’t remember the last time I focused on eating like this and forgot everything else.”

“I’d only heard rumors about how delicious it was, but I didn’t expect it to be this good. No wonder it’s talked about.”

The two team leaders, who were slightly tense when they first saw me, now had completely relaxed expressions.

However, Director Jeon Young-joo still had a firm demeanor, which was to be expected of someone in her position.

“These noodles! This is a national loss! We must immediately register it as an intangible cultural asset!”

Now that I see it, her demeanor remained strong, albeit in a different sense. She seemed to like it more than the two team leaders, which made me feel a bit strange.

‘They’re all just people.’

Personally, I thought people in high positions would be different from me, but experiencing it firsthand showed me there wasn’t much difference.

It’s not like I should be thinking this after meeting industry big shots in the awakening field.

Anyway, since everyone seemed satisfied, I felt proud and happy. How wonderful it is to cook with the crops I’ve grown and make the people around me happy.

“I’ll pack some leftover noodles for you to take when you leave. Enjoy it with your families.”

“Oh, no, Awakened Kyu-seong!”

We had plenty of ingredients, so there were some noodles left. It seemed like a perfect amount to share a bit with each of the five people who came today.

“We haven’t given you anything, yet we’re just receiving…”

“No, no, it’s okay. I feel good because you all enjoyed my crops. And as I said, it’s just leftover, so please take it without any burden.”

Jeon Young-joo looked at me with a tearful expression of gratitude. It was a bit overwhelming to see an older man like this.

“Wow, I’m glad I cleared my schedule today. I’ll enjoy this, Kyu-seong!”

“Yes. I’ll visit the orphanage next time, too.”

“Great! Everyone will be waiting!”

As we continued a light conversation while digesting, Jeon Young-joo started to speak seriously.

“Mr. Kyu-seong.”

“Yes, Director.”

“The truth is, the reason we came to see you today was to understand you better.”

“Understand?”

“Yes.”

Jeon Young-joo nodded, and the other two team leaders listened with serious faces.

“We didn’t intend to reveal our intentions, but after experiencing you today, we realized we must approach you sincerely.”

“Yes…”

“The main reason we want to understand you is to prevent you from being recruited overseas.”

Overseas? Why suddenly overseas?

As I tilted my head in confusion, Jeon Young-joo continued.

“If Mr. Kyu-seong’s abilities become known abroad, to be frank, it would be difficult for our country to hold on to you. We promise to do our best to treat you well, but places like the United States, China, the Middle East, or the European Union could offer astronomical conditions.”

“Uh, Director, are you sure you’re talking about me?”

“Yes, that’s correct. I’m saying that Mr. Kyu-seong’s abilities are that outstanding.”

Hmm, it seems like there’s a misunderstanding. From the beginning, I cannot leave Korea. Well, if I really wanted to, I probably could, but would I leave behind the Dungeon of Gluttony for that?

‘My family is here, and all my acquaintances are here too, so why would I?’

Money? If I wanted to, I could gather as much as I needed.

Conditions? No matter how favorable the treatment or conditions offered to me now, is there anything that could really tempt me?

‘Still…’

Let’s not say that.

It’s not bad if the Awakeners Headquarters wants to treat me well.

I should enjoy what I can while nodding in agreement. If I give in too easily, won’t I be like a caught fish?

“Recently, an organization has shown interest in your items, Mr. Kyu-seong. It’s the European Union.”

“Oh.”

“But they haven’t yet identified the owner of the items. They’ll probably come to Korea soon…”

It seems they decided to openly share what they initially intended to keep to themselves.

The reason the European Awakening Union is looking for my items is obvious. It must be to tackle Wrath.

‘Wrath? Wrath.’

The European Union and the strategy against Wrath.

Perhaps I could use this situation to my advantage?

“…Lady, are you all right?”

Stella asked, her voice filled with concern.

Noel’s face had been pale for a while now, which prompted the question.

Even during their time on the battlefield together, she had never shown this much distress. However, ever since the Crown Prince took Aiden away, Noel had remained in this state.

“If you’re feeling unwell, why don’t you take a brief rest? I can cover for you here.”

With that, Noel forced a smile and stood up with difficulty.

She stepped outside of the hall for a moment. Outside the bustling, dazzling venue, the cool night breeze gently ruffled her hair.

Noel’s face hardened as she looked in the direction from which the wind blew.

With her heightened senses, she could clearly see what lay beyond the dim night.

Aiden… and the Crown Prince.

They were sitting across from each other at a table, engaged in conversation.

She took a deep breath.

‘I have no right…’

No right to interfere.

No matter what she said, she had no authority to stop the Crown Prince.

Considering their tangled ‘past,’ it was only natural that she’d let Aiden go.

She turned her body, attempting to distance herself from the two. With her sharp hearing, she could still catch their conversation even from this distance.

“Break off the engagement with Lionheart.”

If only she hadn’t heard those words.

“In return, I will grant you anything you wish for, Aiden.”

Noel’s steps came to an abrupt halt.

Without realizing it, she turned her gaze to Aiden.

She wasn’t sure why she felt the need to check his reaction as soon as she heard those words, but somehow, she just did.

He was sitting there, expressionless, staring blankly at the Crown Prince. His thoughts were unreadable.

“May I ask why you’re making such a request?”

Aiden’s voice was rough as he questioned the prince. The Crown Prince interlaced his fingers and rested his chin on them.

“The time of revelation is near, Aiden. Soon, many interesting things will happen within the capital.”

That cryptic smile remained subtly on the Crown Prince’s face.

“I don’t want to see a kind person like you dragged into it, standing next to someone so malicious.”

“Did you just call Lady Noel malicious?”

“Ah, of course. Without a doubt.”

His next words slithered out like a serpent’s tongue.

“It’s a long story, but to put it simply…”

The Crown Prince’s voice seemed to echo in Noel’s ears.

“She ruined my future.”

In an instant.

“The woman known as the Lionheart. She’s a coward, a traitor, a failure, a murderer, and a fugitive. Even she wouldn’t deny it.”

Noel’s breath caught in her throat.

“Isn’t that reason enough to call her malicious?”

“Separating you from such a woman is something you should be grateful for.”

“And, Aiden Kellermain, I know who you are. I know what you want.”

The Crown Prince smiled as he spoke.

“When you get involved in matters beyond your capacity, it leads to disaster. Isn’t that what you’re doing now?”

“What do you mean by that?”

“It means I wish to offer you peace.”

Aiden’s body froze.

Even Noel, who hadn’t spent much time with him, could tell that his face had been struck by something unexpected.

In contrast, the Crown Prince continued to look at him with that same calm smile.

“You’re being told to rest at home. Leave the difficult tasks to the great people and stay away from life-threatening dangers.”

The words, filled with certainty, flowed out one after another.

As if it was only natural that Aiden would agree.

Delivered calmly, as though stating an undeniable fact.

As if reminding him that these burdens, which never suited him in the first place, had been ‘forcibly’ placed upon him by someone else.

“And more than anything else.”

The Crown Prince paused, as if signaling that he wasn’t finished.

As if he was about to offer Aiden exactly what he ‘truly’ wanted.

“No matter what happens from now on, I will protect your family. No matter what, even if it costs my life.”

“……”

“I swear on the honor of the royal family. And if that’s not enough for you, I’ll even make a covenant with the god Karva. I always keep my word.”

“……”

“You can hand over that… ‘woman who burdened you with such a cruel fate’ to me and return to your original life.”

Noel clenched her hands tightly until blood began to flow.

He wasn’t wrong.

Everything that Aiden Kellermain was going through now began the moment he met her.

These weren’t things he chose to do; they all started ‘because of’ her.

She lowered her head, breathing heavily.

After hearing all that, it was clear what Aiden’s response would be.

And then, a ‘rejection’ was building up inside her.

‘Why?’

She herself couldn’t understand why she was reacting like this.

Their relationship was based on a contract.

There was no emotional foundation between them to sustain one another.

If Aiden accepted the Crown Prince’s offer, she’d simply find another way to fulfill the agreement. They hadn’t placed any more value on each other beyond that.

Yet,

‘I don’t want to hear it.’

She didn’t want to hear him utter a word of rejection.

For reasons she couldn’t comprehend, that thought crossed her mind.

She wanted to leave immediately, but her legs wouldn’t move, as though they were rooted to the ground.

And when Aiden finally spoke, Noel tightly shut her eyes.

“Your Highness.”

—But then.

“You certainly don’t hold back when it comes to my fiancée.”

The words that followed were entirely different from what she had expected.

Noel’s eyes widened in shock.

A chilling atmosphere settled over the table.

After all, such tension was to be expected after speaking rudely to a direct member of the royal family.

“…It seems you don’t quite understand yet.”

Despite those words, the Crown Prince, who had been silent for a moment, spoke without any change in demeanor.

“That person may have a good public reputation. After all, that’s how the royal family and the military have ‘crafted’ her image. But—”

“There’s probably some propaganda mixed in. During the war, there must have been horrific events, and I never expected Noel to be pure as snow.”

“….”

“As Your Highness says, Noel may be different from how she’s portrayed. I won’t deny that.”

Aiden responded calmly.

“But even so.”

His tone remained calm, yet resolute.

He speaks firmly.

“I have no intention of breaking off the engagement.”

Indeed, everything the Crown Prince has said so far is quite surprising.

There must have been something in the past, some unpleasant connection with Noel, which explains the clear hostility he harbors.

But.

No matter how dark or significant those events were.

Aiden has a reason why he can never give up on this marriage.

-Quest Info-

[The events listed under this category impose severe penalties if failed!]

<Sham Marriage>

-You have been chosen as Noel’s spouse.

Maintain the contract with your partner until the end!

The reason he absolutely cannot give up on this is outlined here, loud and clear.

‘Does this guy have a death wish or something? No matter what happens, I can’t give up on Noel…! The only option is to push through with a do-or-die attitude!’

“You will face things far beyond your capacity.”

As the Crown Prince spoke with a heavy tone, Aiden clenched his teeth internally.

Yeah, I get what you’re saying… but…

‘If I break off the engagement, I’ll die immediately…!?’

He transformed his desperate feeling into a composed smile, somehow responding.

“I’m prepared.”

The swift reply left the Crown Prince silent for a moment, seemingly unsure of what Aiden was thinking.

“You’d better think carefully.”

The Crown Prince’s voice turned cold.

It was a warning, suggesting that their relationship might turn hostile.

‘So what…!! Better that than dying, idiot…!’

“It doesn’t matter.”

When Aiden responded without hesitation, the Crown Prince looked at him, speechless.

“What’s your reason for going this far? You’re only bound to Noel by contract.”

‘What reason? I’m doing it because I have to…’

But there was no point in explaining that. Anything he said would only make the Crown Prince cling to it further.

So, Aiden needed to think.

While he didn’t know exactly why the Crown Prince was insisting on the engagement being broken, he had to at least prevent him from continuing to interfere with their relationship. It was annoying and troublesome.

The best excuse to stop him outright would be…

‘Ah.’

There was one.

It might not solve everything, but it would at least block any further attempts by the Crown Prince to intervene.

‘Got it.’

Aiden smiled widely, as if his next words were nothing but the absolute truth.

“I’m in love with her.”

He lied without missing a beat.

It was a display of confidence, befitting a man whose profession was deception.

For the first time, the smile vanished from the Crown Prince’s face.

He hadn’t anticipated such an answer at all.

“What? You’re telling me you like her? You’re willing to oppose the Crown Prince, the future ruler of the empire, for that reason alone?”

“Yes.”

Silence fell.

It was much heavier and more oppressive than before.

And after a long pause,

“Ha.”

With a short exhale,

“Hahaha!”

The Crown Prince burst into laughter.

-System Message-

▶ You have encountered ‘The Usurper,’ Arden Brimstone Lionel.

The [Malevolence] level has increased by 1!

A new feature of ‘The Weaver of Fate’ has been unlocked.

▶ You have copied a ‘mutated skill’ from the target!

“Huh?”

Aiden frowned as the system message appeared.

It was a window he had never seen before. Up until now, he had copied skills as his favorability rose, but what was this about Malevolence and mutated skills?

Before he could even finish contemplating his confusion, another message popped up.

-System Message-

▶ The favorability of ‘Noel Astria Simus’ has increased.

▶ The increase in favorability is significant! The bond level has skyrocketed from 3 to 5.

▶ You have gained 2 additional skill copy attempts!

Your bond is strong enough for ‘The Weaver of Fate’ to change its application method soon!

New content will be added to the main quest!

A new section has been added to the quest ‘Sham Marriage!’

‘Why is this happening again…?’

Round 157

Gang Kyung-heon, the team leader of the Awakeners Headquarters Management Team, adjusted his attire and checked his appearance once more.

“Team Leader, this is already the third time.”

Park Soo-yeon, the leader of the investigation team who came with him, said a word to Gang Kyung-heon, who then awkwardly smiled and nodded.

“I must be nervous without realizing it.”

“What are you so nervous about? It’s just a greeting anyway.”

“…If we mess up the greeting, Awakener Lee Kyu-seong might not think well of us. If that happens, and a disappointed Awakener Lee Kyu-seong goes abroad, the scenario would be…”

“Team Leader, you’re overthinking it.”

Though they both held the same team leader position, they spoke casually due to their senior-junior relationship. At that moment, Jeon Young-joo, the headquarters director, appeared beside them.

“Have you arrived, Director?”

“Let’s go right away.”

The three of them then got into the vehicle and headed to the Ara Hongryeon Guild first. Their destination was Yangju, where Kyu-seong was located, but they were scheduled to meet Guild Leader Han Seok-jun and Ara Hongryeon Team 1 Leader first. Even though it was dawn, the convoy crossed through the terrifying heart of Seoul and finally arrived at Ara Hongryeon.

“Welcome.”

“Oh, there was no need for you to come out to meet us. It’s been a while, Guild Leader.”

Han Seok-jun greeted them with a warm smile, and Jeon Young-joo promptly got out of the car to greet him. The other two team leaders quickly followed suit to greet him as well.

“It’s only natural to greet the Director when they arrive.”

“Haha. Thank you. It’s been a while, Team Leader Jeong So-yeon?”

“Yes, it’s been a while, Director Jeon Young-joo.”

After a brief introduction, two members from Ara Hongryeon also boarded the same vehicle. Then, they immediately set off for Yangju.

“I can’t tell you how fortunate we feel to have you both with us. We’ve only heard stories, so we’re not quite sure what kind of person Awakener Lee Kyu-seong is…”

“He’s a humble person, and he has a warm heart.”

“He seems like a really good person.”

Despite Han Seok-jun’s words, the staff from the Awakeners Headquarters considered it to be formal flattery. In the meantime, Jeong So-yeon interjected.

“Recently, there haven’t been any signs, but is there a particular reason why you suddenly want to meet our Kyu-seong?”

“Ah, I’ve been meaning to contact you for a while due to my busy schedule but missed the timing.”

Team Leader Gang Kyung-heon skillfully defended the question. However, Jeong So-yeon wasn’t entirely convinced.

“Is something happening at the Awakeners Headquarters? Can’t you give us a little hint since we’re meeting Kyu-seong anyway?”

“What do you mean by ‘something’? Well, there’s always a mountain of work, isn’t there? We just wanted to confirm how well the Ara Hongryeon Guild is doing lately, thinking that Awakener Lee Kyu-seong might have a significant influence, so we reached out for a courtesy visit.”

“Hmm, is that so?”

Since her reputation as the youngest level 6 awakener, Jeong So-yeon had often interacted with the Awakeners Headquarters, allowing her to speak more casually. Gang Kyung-heon also skillfully evaded Jeong So-yeon’s questions with wit and concealed his true intentions.

Meanwhile, Han Seok-jun, who was observing their conversation from the side, had a subtle gleam in his eyes.

“As I mentioned before, our Kyu-seong is incredibly humble and a good person.”

“Huh? Yes.”

People were puzzled as to why Han Seok-jun suddenly repeated himself, and they looked at him.

Then Han Seok-jun smiled and continued speaking.

“You probably won’t have to worry about the things you’re concerned about. Instead of trying to deceive, just approach with sincerity.”

The staff from the Awakeners Headquarters felt as if they had been caught off guard. The comment about Kyu-seong being humble seemed to imply that there was no chance he would go abroad due to greed. Han Seok-jun’s words, as if he saw through everything, brought a moment of silence in the vehicle.

***

“How is it?”

“Adorable!”

Dressed up, wearing tiger pajamas, and with Mammon’s hairpin, Ara smiled brightly in front of the mirror. It seemed like if I left now, I could arrive at the meeting place on time, so I finished preparing as well.

“Shall we go?”

“Yes!”

We greeted the kids and headed outside. We soon hailed a taxi and headed to a familiar place. There was still about 30 minutes left until the meeting time. But waiting at the meeting place wouldn’t be a problem since the location was none other than the main house.

‘I contacted the Guild Leader again and asked to meet at our house.’

It seemed unnecessary, but right after the call, my mother said she wanted to personally serve dishes made with my ingredients. Although it would be hard on my mother, I thought it was a good idea, so I immediately changed the meeting place to our house.

The guests might feel a bit burdened. But it’s not like I could serve dishes made with my ingredients at a restaurant!

‘I really want them to eat it!’

To a simple person like me, government officials and others felt like great people. They might laugh if I told them this directly, but how can I help what I feel?

When we entered the house, not only my mother but also Seon-ah was there. I didn’t see my father around.

“Ara is here!”

Seon-ah, who was in the kitchen, ran barefoot. Then, seeing Ara in tiger pajamas, she clutched her heart and collapsed on the spot.

Does it not hurt?

“Oof, so strong…”

“Seon-ah Seon-ah! Are you alright!!!”

Ara dashed over and, copying something she had seen somewhere, started mimicking CPR. Seon-ah, hearing this, pretended to faint again with a sigh.

Shouldn’t you at least close your eyes if you’re pretending to be dead?

“Seon-ah Seon-ah!!!”

Because of Ara’s wail, my mother eventually came out of the kitchen.

“Oh my, is our Ara here?”

“Great Lord, Lord! Seon-ah Seon-ah is in trouble!”

“Our puppy, Seon-ah, is fine. Since everything that Kyu-seong requested yesterday is ready, shall we have a taste?”

“Dog treat!”

Ara’s eyes sparkled.

However, she quickly regained her composure, clutching Seon-ah and lamenting.

“This cannot be! Seon-ah Seon-ah~!!”

“Hey, Seon-ah, stop teasing our Ara and get up to help Mom.”

Even when I nudged her with my foot, Seon-ah didn’t respond, but her eyes were wide open, staring at Ara.

I told her to close her eyes if she was pretending to be dead, right?

I sighed and went to check on the completed dog treat.

“Oh.”

It was neatly cut into long jerky-like strips. It looked like dried pollack that had been shredded. When I touched it, it was hard. The dehydrator next to it was still running, drying more dog treats.

‘I did make quite a bit.’

I used up all the milk and agar powder I had bought without thinking. I figured our Woofy could probably eat this amount for years.

The hard texture reminded me of jerky or dried pollack. I wanted to try it too.

Chewy!

The texture was not as hard as I had expected. It was somewhere between chewy and hard, and that was strangely addictive.

‘I think dogs would really like this.’

It was tasty. Well, it couldn’t not be tasty. As I chewed the dog treat, like biting into a hard caramel, Seon-ah suddenly appeared.

“Are you a dog, brother?”

“Want to try some?”

“A dog treat?”

“It’s good.”

Then, Ara, who was delighted that she had revived Seon-ah, and my mother, who was praising Ara, came over.

“You can eat it since it’s made with milk. Mom tried it too, and it was delicious.”

“What? Mom ate it too?”

Seon-ah received the dog treat I handed her and contemplated it seriously.

At first, I felt the same way, but since it was made into a hard solid instead of a liquid, the resistance lessened.

“It’s just called a dog treat, but think of it as jerky. Or you could even think of it as caramel.”

There were various flavors: carrot, paprika, tomato, sweet potato, and a nutty version. Trying each one, they all had a healthy feel, with a noticeable lack of strong sweetness.

“It would be fine to make these as snacks for people, too.”

Ara, too, was already munching on a dog treat in each hand.

“Mmm! It’s tasty!”

“The ones that aren’t fully dried feel like pudding. Later, it might be nice to make pudding-like desserts with your produce, Kyu-seong.”

“Please do, Mother.”

Desserts are more labor-intensive than expected. So please make them for us. I am a bad child who wants to be spoiled.

“Mmm~! This is better than expected. It’s just like Ma*chu.”

“Ma*chu?”

Ah, that fruit-flavored caramel? It was less intense than that, with a slightly tougher texture. But just because it was less intense didn’t mean it was less tasty. After all, it had my produce in it.

As we enjoyed the mysterious dog treat party, I received a text from Jeong So-yeon.

-We left earlier and have about 30 minutes left!

Oh, this isn’t the time for this.

I immediately replied with a thank you and helped my mother prepare food in the kitchen.

Before I knew it, my cooking skills had improved quite a bit. Of course, I couldn’t compare to Jae-seong or my mother, but I had to make food for our kids often.

‘Of course, most of the time, they fill their stomachs with raw, unprepared produce…’

Even so, my occasional cooking helped improve my skills significantly.

The dishes started coming together. Today’s main menu was nutty potato noodles, with side dishes like stir-fried eggplant, stir-fried tomato and eggs, and a salad with paprika, carrots, and cucumbers.

All were made with produce, not items, so there was no difference in taste, and I was curious to see their reactions.

When all the cooking was finished, I received a call saying they had arrived.

“I’ll go out and greet the guests.”

“Alright.”

Ara and I went out to find a black magic stone vehicle parked. After parking, Guild Leader Han Seok-jun and Jeong So-yeon were the first to get out.

“Hello.”

“Greetings!”

The two spotted us, and greeted us with bright smiles.

“It’s been a while! The carrot soup was delicious!”

“Haha. It’s nice to see you again so soon, Kyu-seong.”

The two greeted us warmly, but then showed a hint of concern.

“But is it really alright for us to intrude on your family home, Kyu-seong?”

“It’s no intrusion. And besides, I wanted to share something delicious with you both and with the guests we’re meeting for the first time today…”

Ara nodded in agreement.

“Delicious things are meant to be shared!”

“Oh my, Ara is still so cute. What are these clothes? Where did you find such adorable, charming clothes?!”

Jeong So-yeon was seeing Ara’s tiger pajamas… or rather, the full-body armor of a tiger king, for the first time. We hadn’t met in a while.

As Ara and Jeong So-yeon were chatting affectionately, I saw the staff from the Awakeners Headquarters getting out of the parked vehicle.

All dressed in black suits, they made me feel a bit intimidated.

“Ah, hello. I’m Lee Kyu-seong.”

As I carefully greeted them, their eyes widened, and they approached me hurriedly.

“Hello! I am Jeon Young-joo, the director of the Awakeners Headquarters!”

“I am Gang Kyung-heon, the management team leader!”

“I am Park Soo-yeon, the investigation team leader!”

What, what is this? The military?

Startled by their heavily formal introductions, I nodded, but my mind went blank again as I began to process it.

“Um, did you just say you are the director…?”

“Yes, I am Director Jeon Young-joo.”

Director?

Director…

Director?!

Looking again, I recognized the face. This person occasionally appeared on TV! Isn’t that a vice-minister level official?!

And recalling their introductions, the other two were also referred to as team leaders.

Two team leaders and even the director? What on earth are they here to discuss directly?

“I am Ara! Welcome!”

Ara’s greeting echoed gently in my ears.

Disturber of the Ecosystem.

A game enjoyed by hundreds of millions around the world: Overlord.

The company running it: Blackhole.

But today, there’s a crisis at Blackhole’s First Operations Team.

Beep! Beep!

“What’s going on? What happened?”

Kang Minsu, the Team Leader of the First Operations Team, jumped up in shock at the sudden alarm.

“Min-cheol, what’s happening?”

“Uh… well…”

Kang Minsu looked for his team member, Kim Min-cheol.

“You need to see this,” Kim Min-cheol said, displaying a message on his screen.

[Hidden Piece Discovered!]

[Spirit Realm Unlocked!]

[Forgotten God’s Sanctuary Found.]

Kang Minsu’s face paled in surprise.

The Spirit Realm unlocked!?

And the Forgotten God’s Sanctuary!?

“What’s going on? How can the Spirit Realm be unlocked?”

Overlord is marketed as a player-driven game.

But the reality was different.

The game was carefully controlled by the company to follow predetermined scenarios.

Every variable, big or small, was accounted for to maintain order within acceptable limits.

Over the past year, many unexpected events had occurred, but they were always manageable.

But today… another unpredictable event emerged.

“Why…?”

According to the script, discovering the Spirit Realm should have happened much later.

“Why now?”

“It seems a player found a Hidden Piece.”

Hidden Pieces in Overlord are like a treasure hunt—players receive massive rewards for discovering them.

These Hidden Pieces are a key factor in keeping the game’s popularity alive.

But for the Operations Team…

“Another Hidden Piece!?”

Hidden Pieces were major variables.

Depending on their impact, they could create uncontrollable chaos.

Ding!

“What’s this…? An alarm…”

At that moment, new messages appeared on Kim Min-cheol’s screen:

[Quest ‘Clue to the Spirit Realm’ Deleted.]

[Linked Quest ‘Whispers of Spirits from Afar’ Deleted.]

[Linked Quest ‘The Girl Who Sees Spirits’ Deleted.]

[Linked Quest ‘I Am My Friend!’ Deleted.]

[Hidden Quest ‘Gate to the Spirit Realm’ Deleted.]

[Hidden Quest ‘Unseen But Present Beings…’ Deleted.]

[Quest Item ‘Altar’ Deleted.]

[Quest…]

The two were left speechless.

All the deleted quests had been designed to lead players to the Spirit Realm.

According to the set scenario, players had to complete these quests to find the path to the Spirit Realm.

But now, because of the Hidden Piece, the process was skipped, and only the ‘result’ was reached.

“All the quests… are gone.”

“Since a player already found the Spirit Realm, they’ve been deemed unnecessary.”

“Damn… Hidden Pieces…”

Kang Minsu gritted his teeth.

Everything seemed bleak.

While they’d managed to handle numerous Hidden Pieces before, this one was different.

This time, it was the Spirit Realm.

Over 100 quests and items were deleted, and even related NPCs were now in a state of confusion.

A bug could easily occur if not handled properly.

“Team Leader… what should we do? To fix this…”

“What else? We already know what needs to be done.”

“What is it?”

“What else.”

Kang Minsu let out a deep sigh.

“We’re working overtime today.”

“Oh…”

At those words, Kim Min-cheol also let out a long sigh.

‘Guess we’ll be stuck here for a few more days…’

Whenever a Hidden Piece was discovered, it always led to long work hours, so he was already used to it.

Kim Min-cheol thought they’d be able to manage it after a few tough days, just like before.

But he was unaware of what was to come.

Ding!

[You have obtained the Seed of the Spirit.]

[The power of the Spirit dwells within you.]

[You have earned the Hidden Title, Discoverer of the Spirit Realm.]

[You are transitioning to a special job.]

[Special job…]

This was just the beginning.

***

“Where am I?”

Hiro looked around.

Just a moment ago, he had been in the vegetable garden of Plants Village, but now he found himself in a strange forest.

Behind him stood…

“A temple?”

It looked like a temple of some sort.

The old, worn-down structure gave off a sense of abandonment.

“This place would be perfect for a courage test… but… where am I, exactly?”

Ding!

[You are the first Revelator to discover the Spirit Realm.]

[You have earned the Hidden Title, Discoverer of the Spirit Realm.]

[Discoverer of the Spirit Realm]

– Rank: Hidden (Unique)

– Requirement: Be the first Revelator to visit the Spirit Realm.

– Options: Spirit Power +30

  Spirit Power Recovery Speed +20%

  Spirit Magic Attack +5%

– Description: This place is truly the new continent!!!

“The Spirit Realm?”

Hiro was shocked.

Just a moment ago, he had been in the beginner town of Plants, and now suddenly, he was in the Spirit Realm.

“Could it be because of that light?”

Hiro opened his palm, which still held the mysterious seed.

“What is… this?”

The color of the seed had changed.

What was once a dull, dark color was now glowing a radiant green.

Then…

It slowly seeped into Hiro’s palm.

Ding!

[You have absorbed the Seed of the Spirit.]

[You have transitioned to the special job, Spirit Farmer.]

[A special attribute, Spirit Power, has been added.]

[Mana is replaced by Spirit Power.]

“What is this…?”

The series of unexpected events left Hiro feeling slightly dizzy.

But he quickly regained his composure.

“Let’s check the status window.”

Hiro opened his status window.

[Status Window]

– Name: Hiro

– Level: 1

– Experience: 0.00%

– Job: Spirit Farmer

“My job has changed?”

Hiro had originally been a Farmer, but now he was a Spirit Farmer with a new special attribute called Spirit Power.

“A special job, Spirit Farmer, huh…”

Hiro was deep in thought.

The reason he started playing Overlord was to become a successful farmer.

He wanted to build his own farm and achieve his dream of prosperity.

But suddenly being given a special job was unexpected.

“Since a Spirit Farmer is still a farmer, I guess it’s not too different?”

“Job Description.”

Ding!

[Spirit Farmer]

– Rank: EX (Unique)

– Description: A highly unique job that allows you to farm using the power of spirits.

Crops grown and harvested by the Spirit Farmer are imbued with special powers.

A Spirit Farmer can grow special seeds that ordinary farmers cannot.

“EX rank?”

Hiro was startled.

Even within special jobs, there were different ranks.

The ranks ranged from at least F up to EX.

As far as Hiro knew, the current top-ranked player, Dragon Knight, held an SSS rank job.

Which meant…

“Does this mean my job is better than Dragon Knight’s?”

“…But I’m still a farmer.”

The matchup between a warrior wielding the power of dragons and a farmer holding a hoe felt surreal.

His heart started to race.

“For now…”

He couldn’t make any rash moves.

Hiro’s level was only 1, and despite having an EX-ranked job, he was still a farmer.

“I don’t know where I am, so I can’t move recklessly.”

Since he was the first to discover this uncharted area, he had no information.

He couldn’t predict what kind of monsters might be nearby.

“Maybe… I should check inside the temple?”

Hiro ventured into the temple.

[You are the first to visit the Forgotten God’s Sanctuary.]

“Huh… It’s not that big.”

The place was covered in a thick layer of dust, having been abandoned for a long time.

He could feel the weight of time.

“A sanctuary chamber?”

Entering the room marked as a sanctuary chamber, Hiro found nothing but a lone altar.

“There’s nothing special here.”

Still wary of potential monsters, Hiro searched the temple thoroughly but found nothing.

“Hmm… What should I do?”

Hiro started Overlord to fulfill his dream of becoming a farmer, a dream he couldn’t achieve in real life.

Originally, he intended to start from the bottom in Plants Village and work his way up slowly.

But now…

“The Spirit Realm… Can I farm here?”

The temple’s floor was hard stone, making it difficult to create a field.

“So I’ll have to go outside.”

Hiro stepped outside the temple.

Then, something caught his eye.

“Was there a field here?”

There were traces of an old field.

Of course, it had been abandoned for a long time and needed some cleaning up.

Nearby, there was also a well with some remaining water, which seemed usable.

“Looks like this place could work.”

He had to make a decision.

He needed to farm here.

Even if he wanted to create a new character, deleting one meant he couldn’t create another for a year.

This rule was in place to prevent cheating.

In the early days, players who tried to exploit the game by deleting and remaking characters were stopped by this rule.

“And even if you create a new character, you can’t change the ID, right?”

In any case, deleting his character here meant he’d have to sit idle for a year.

Hiro didn’t want to wait that long.

“No other choice.”

Hiro grabbed his hoe.

Although he hadn’t fully grasped the surroundings, he needed to survive here.

The most important thing was food.

“If my Satiation drops too low, I could starve, right?”

He had obtained a special job—an EX-ranked job, no less.

If he could farm even in the Spirit Realm, he could fulfill his long-held dream of building his own farm and achieving success.

“It’s possible.”

Hiro spoke with hope as he started plowing the field.

[You used the Land Clearing skill.]

– Work Speed +10%

– Stamina Consumption during Work -10%

– Land has been cleared.

– Skill experience for Land Clearing has slightly increased.

– Job experience has been obtained.

As he cleared the land, his passive skill activated.

“So farmers gain experience by clearing land?”

Farmers could earn experience by clearing land, planting seeds, and harvesting crops.

Thump, thump, thump!

Hiro continued to clear the land around him.

“The soil isn’t too bad.”

Despite being abandoned for a long time, the soil was in better condition than he had expected.

Ding!

[Quest ‘Creating a Field’ has been generated.]

[Creating a Field]

– Rank: E

– Description: The beginning of farming starts with creating a field.

  Let’s make your own field.

– Success Conditions: Clear 100 field tiles.

– Rewards: Experience, 100 gold, Beginner Farmer’s Hat.

– Penalty for Failure: None.

“Alright.”

Hiro accepted the quest and continued clearing the land.

Since he had done this a few times when trying to farm in real life, it was easier than expected.

[You have cleared the quest ‘Creating a Field.’]

[You have gained experience.]

[You have leveled up.]

[You have obtained 100 gold.]

[You have obtained the Beginner Farmer’s Hat.]

“Phew… Is that it?”

The field started to look quite decent, and Hiro completed the quest and received his rewards.

He checked the Beginner Farmer’s Hat.

[Beginner Farmer’s Hat]

– Rank: F

– Description: A perfect hat for beginner farmers working under the blazing sun. Wearing it reduces fatigue.

– Requirements: Farmer class.

– Durability: 500/500

– Options: Stamina Consumption during Work -5%, Work Speed +5%

“Not bad.”

Since F rank was the lowest item rank, he wasn’t too concerned.

“Then…”

Hiro took out 100 sweet potato seeds from his bag.

“It’s really a relief…”

He thought about how disastrous it would have been if he had moved here before buying the seeds.

“Let’s plant the seeds…”

Ding!

[Quest ‘Sowing Seeds’ has been generated.]

[Would you like to accept it?]

Hiro smiled slightly at the new quest.

“Accept.”

[You have accepted the quest.]

“Well then… Shall we continue?”

It had only been a day since he started Overlord.

Hiro had already begun farming in the Spirit Realm.

“Ice Crystal.”

As he confirmed the massive ice wall forming in front of him, Alon let out a deep sigh behind his expressionless face.

‘What on earth is going on here?’

He was extremely confused by the situation. From Alon’s perspective, it was understandable: while he was listening to a conversation at the tower in the center of the city, the whole area suddenly shook as if it were about to collapse, forcing him to rush out. And when he did, this scene unfolded before him.

What’s more, the situation went far beyond Alon’s understanding.

‘Those two… It looks like they used Abyssal Entities.’

Alon recalled the thick, dark energy flowing from the bodies of Malian and Kalman, who had just tried to kill Seolrang.

‘How?’

To his knowledge, Abyssal Entities weren’t supposed to appear at this point. In the original storyline, these items only started to spread across the world after two of the Five Great Sins showed up.

The effect of these items was simple: even if the one who absorbed the Abyssal Entity was weak, they would still gain divine power. Although its mechanism wasn’t explained even in ‘Psychedelia’, there were many speculations that Abyssal Entities were introduced in the game purely to balance the difficulty level.

The enemies who used Abyssal Entities always became overwhelmingly stronger than before.

So, while Alon was curious why Malian and Kalman had Abyssal Entities, he soon dismissed the thought. What mattered most now was not that, but how to overcome the current situation.

Alon assessed the situation with cold precision.

‘Remaining magic uses: zero.’

He had already used three spells to create the frigid wasteland, one to shoot and kill Malian when he tried to harm Seolrang earlier, and one to shield himself from a possible attack. He could no longer use magic.

That is, ordinarily.

Gulp—

Without hesitation, Alon uncorked a bottle hanging from his waist and drank it. It was a top-grade mana potion given to him by Penia, the vice-tower master of the Blue Tower.

‘With this, I can stall for time with two more spells, but the barrier will disappear in 20 seconds.’

After finishing the potion, Alon quickly turned his gaze toward the fallen Seolrang. Having secretly prepared magic for a considerable amount of time to avoid detection, he had already grasped the rough sequence of events.

Seolrang’s eyes, when he glanced down at her, were filled with emptiness, despair, and intense rage. Dark energy poured out from her entire body.

Seeing her like that, Alon immediately took out another potion from his waist. It was the highest-grade potion he had received half a year ago when many gifts had come pouring in for him.

“Drink this.”

Alon crouched down, pushed the potion into Seolrang’s mouth, and whispered to her.

“The only ones who betrayed you are those guys, so don’t worry.”

“Is that… really true?”

“Yes.”

He answered clearly, though in truth, Alon also didn’t know how many of the Golden Mane Tribe had sided with Ralga.

Even if Seolrang wasn’t one to think deeply about such matters, it wouldn’t take much reflection to realize that there wasn’t much credibility in what Alon was saying.

Still, the reason he lied was because, at this moment, he desperately needed her help.

‘There’s only one chance, and Seolrang has to block their attacks until I can prepare my spell.’

Alon’s magic took a long time to cast. He knew all too well how foolish it would be to expect the enemies to wait during that time. That’s why Alon had lied—to get Seolrang, who was drowning in despair, to act immediately.

“Can you hold them off until I finish my spell?”

Alon had fed Seolrang the entire high-grade potion. Despite staggering slightly, she firmly stood up and nodded.

“Yes.”

Even though the poison wasn’t fully diluted yet, there was no other choice. Alon decided to trust Seolrang and began preparing his spell. Once the spell was ready, dealing with Kalman wouldn’t be a difficult task.

Even though Kalman had absorbed the Abyssal Entity and become stronger, ironically, Alon would become even stronger because Kalman had done so. He had placed a restriction—a power that could twist the world when facing gods.

“Hoo—”

With a light sigh, Alon formed a seal with his hands. In an instant, the cold ice wall that had been scattering frost disappeared as if it had never been there.

“Ice Snow.”

As he uttered the next incantation, frost swirled wildly around him, and assassins and members of the Golden Mane Tribe charged forward as if they had been waiting for this moment. There were dozens of them.

But—

“Shape.”

Despite her staggering, Seolrang began fending off the enemies charging at her, and as Alon watched her, he uttered his next phrase. He then closed his eyes and recalled the words spoken by that formless entity earlier.

‘You may have lost the great legacy of the past, but those who understand magic know that its essence lies in the fact that a ‘Magus’ is someone who implements the laws of this world.’

‘The array of magic, the incantations, and even the names—all of them exist to implement those laws. Only when everything is arranged properly in accordance with those principles can—‘

‘It be called magic.’

“Fame of the Snowy Mountain.”

As Alon spoke, a round sphere formed between his middle and ring fingers and froze. But it didn’t just freeze; each individual point of the magical array he had prepared bloomed like snowflakes, with each hexagonal plate as the starting point for a unique flower.

‘It seems you only know a few phrases, but you also need to use sentences. Phrases can twist the laws, but sentences are the keys to opening certain doors that approach the laws of this world.’

‘Well, it’s not like today’s magicians have completely lost the names. They’ve just been overly simplified and unified, losing the original words in the process.’

‘Nowadays, they probably call it something silly like “Ice Spear.”’

“Blind Man’s Inevitability.”

The blooming flowers fully opened. The sphere at Alon’s fingertips was no longer a simple orb but a massive crystalline snowflake.

Crack—

At the center of that snowflake, a beautifully shaped spear formed in front of him.

And then—

‘But originally, that magic wasn’t called something as foolish as “Ice Spear.”’

“Ice Crystal Halberd.”

‘That’s the true name of what those foolish magicians forgot.’

After quietly speaking, Alon opened his eyes. He could see Kalman, with his dark gauntlets, staring at him with a frustrated expression, and Seolrang desperately holding him off.

Seeing them, Alon tightly clenched the seal he had been forming and finished the spell.

In the blazing hot chamber, a snowy field arrived.

***

Liyan watched Alon’s magic unfold. The mind that usually ran countless simulations to analyze whatever magic was used had now come to a halt.

She could only stare blankly.

Everything in the path of the spear Alon had cast had frozen. Whether it was the ground, the air, or—

…Kalman, whose heart was pierced by the spear of ice.

Everything had frozen.

The abnormal, yet breathtakingly beautiful scene left Liyan and the other magicians unable to take their eyes off it.

“This is… unbelievable…”

“Is that… a magician…?”

The mercenaries, who had been filled with despair just moments before, all muttered in awe as they looked at Alon. Their eyes were filled with boundless reverence and awe.

It was only natural.

The desperate situation had changed dramatically because of the being standing right in front of them.

At that moment, even Seolrang, who had narrowly escaped the range of the spell, was looking at Alon.

Suddenly, ‘it’ moved.

“Ah-!”

The first to notice that the being—more precisely, Ralga, whom they thought had been struck down by Seolrang—was moving again, was ironically a mercenary who had been watching the scene.

“Die!”

Ralga, whose right arm was shattered, raised the poisoned dagger that had previously put Seolrang in danger and charged at her. He was still empowered by the ability Seolrang had granted him, as the authority of the Golden Mane Tribe had not been revoked. Moving at lightning speed, he appeared close to Seolrang just as she let her guard down.

“!”

Seolrang, thinking it was all over, tried to retreat, but it was already too late. Her body was already covered in wounds from fending off Kalman and the attacking rogues. The poison still lingered in her, leaving her no choice but to watch as Ralga’s dagger aimed for her heart.

Ralga’s face lit up with joy as he thought, ‘If I can just kill her, I can take control of the Essence and escape! I can start over again!’

With that thought, he tightened his grip on the dagger. But—

“!?”

Ralga’s dagger didn’t pierce Seolrang’s heart.

‘What—!?’

The reason was that, like the mercenary, Alon had instinctively seen Ralga’s charge and pulled Seolrang’s body backward just in time.

However—

Because of this, Alon’s body naturally slid forward and collided with Ralga’s sweeping dagger.

“Guh!”

Blood spewed from his mouth.

It was thick, blackened blood, a clear sign of deadly injury. And just as Ralga, stunned by his failure, stood there, Seolrang, filled with rage, smashed his head with her foot.

“Count!”

Evan’s voice rang out.

***

In conclusion, Alon wasn’t actually hurt at all.

Of course, a sword had pierced his side, but surprisingly, it hadn’t caused any real damage.

That was because Ralga’s dagger had indeed struck Alon’s body, but just barely—it only tore his clothes.

In other words, Alon wasn’t injured.

So why had he coughed up blood? That was purely due to mana exhaustion.

Although he had enough mana to cast one more spell, the spell consumed so much mana that it drained him beyond exhaustion, causing internal damage.

‘…The power exceeded my expectations, but I’ll need something to supplement the missing mana,’ he thought, as he pressed a hand to his uncomfortable stomach, watching the receding ruins. He hadn’t seen the eastern tablet, but since the ambush had occurred, they had decided to leave the ruins for the day.

After watching the ruins fade into the distance for a while, Alon turned his head toward Seolrang, who was staring intently at him.

If things had gone according to his original plan, he would have been comforting her right now. After all, knowing that she would one day become one of the Five Great Sins, he couldn’t let her harbor any ill will.

However, to his surprise, Seolrang’s eyes showed no signs of negative emotions like anger or hatred, which left him curious.

“Master.”

“Yes?”

“Can I ask you something?”

“What is it?”

Seolrang asked her question.

“When Kalman attacked earlier, why didn’t you dodge?”

“…”

‘When Kalman attacked?’ Alon thought for a moment, then recalled Kalman’s gauntlets that had come so close when he used the Ice Crystal Halberd.

‘…It’s not that I didn’t dodge—I couldn’t.’

Though that was the truth, Alon didn’t think it was the best answer, so instead, he replied,

“Because I trusted you.”

“…You trusted ‘me’?”

“Yes, you said it was possible, didn’t you?”

‘To be honest, it was more like I was begging you, ‘Please let it work!!’…’

As Alon gave his carefully packaged answer, Seolrang’s eyes sparkled slightly, and she asked again,

“Then, why did you save me when Ralga tried to kill me?”

“…Why?”

Alon couldn’t find a suitable reason.

‘Wouldn’t it have been strange not to save a long-time ally from dying right in front of me? Besides, I didn’t expect the dagger to reach me.’

Just like with the previous question, Alon hesitated, but this time he decided to speak honestly.

“…Do I need a reason?”

“There’s no reason?”

“You don’t need a reason to save family.”

To him, Seolrang had already been like a daughter he had raised for over five years, so his answer came out naturally.

‘Ah.’

But then he quickly realized his mistake.

After spending some time with her, he had noticed that Seolrang seemed to hold a very special meaning for the concept of family.

And so, as Alon subtly shifted his gaze to her—

“But Master… you’re not family. Family is tied by blood,” Seolrang murmured, and Alon nodded in agreement.

“Still, I want… to be family with you.”

At her next words, Alon felt a deep warmth inside.

It was like the feeling one might get after finally being recognized as a father after many years of trying. Not that he had personally experienced that, but just as Alon was about to nod in satisfaction—

“But—”

Seolrang suddenly moved and climbed on top of Alon.

With her hands on his shoulders and her waist resting on his thighs, her eyes were shining brightly.

Alon, bewildered by the sudden turn of events, could only stare as Seolrang, smiling, said,

“In this state, we can’t become family. I’m from the Golden Mane Tribe, and you’re a human. So—”

Her smile widened as she continued,

“Let’s get married!”

“…???”

Alon’s mind froze.

Meanwhile, Seolrang’s tail was wagging more happily than it ever had before.

Round 156

Prev | TOC | Next

When I stepped outside and checked my phone, there was a message from an unexpected number.

‘Awakener Kim Tae-yang?’

Or should I call him Director?

Anyway, upon checking the content, it included the broadcast date for the drama and the date for the commercial Ara would soon shoot.

I was a bit surprised that it wasn’t the person appointed as the temporary manager last time who delivered the news, but Kim Tae-yang himself.

I immediately replied with a thank you message and sent the details, like the drama’s broadcast date and Ara’s commercial shooting date, to Seon-ah as well.

By the way, they haven’t come to shoot videos lately. I heard there’s already a mountain of footage to edit, but it felt a bit disappointing not to see them.

“Our Ara is waiting so eagerly.”

“I’m the one waiting?”

Ara, who came out in response to my monologue, tilted her head. I patted Ara’s head and searched for videos on making dog treats and how to make charcoal.

“Milk and agar powder? Oh, it’s really simple.”

Making dog treats was easier than I thought.

I just needed to mix milk, agar powder, and produce.

Carrots, sweet potatoes, and nutty ingredients… honestly, it seemed fine to add whatever.

Instead, the milk should be goat milk or lactose-free milk, not regular milk.

Of course, I thought our Woofy would eat it even if made with regular milk, but since I was making it anyway, I should follow the recipe.

“Should I buy the ingredients while I’m at it?”

“Dog treats! Woofy likes them!”

The materials needed for making charcoal were already in the dungeon. I just had to fill a metal barrel with wood, close the lid, light a fire around the barrel, and let it heat for about three hours.

To put it simply, it involved heating the wood while blocking the air.

Ara and I went down the mountain and bought lactose-free milk and agar powder from the mart. I wanted to buy goat milk as well, but they didn’t have any here.

When we brought it back to the dungeon, everyone looked at us with curious faces.

“What kind of dog treat should we make?”

“Sweet potato!”

“Shall we? Let’s go with sweet potato.”

Since we were making sweet potato dog treats, we should make charcoal as well. We’ll be lighting a fire, so we should roast the sweet potatoes there.

First, I fetched some World Tree firewood.  In fact, there was no need to fetch it since we already had it stocked in the warehouse. All the fires here were essentially lit with World Tree firewood.

I filled a large cauldron with well-dried World Tree firewood and closed the lid. Then, I placed more firewood around the cauldron like a bonfire and lit it.

“Fire!!”

“Our Ara has learned English too?!”

Ara shouted in English, raising her hands in celebration. Her eyes were glued to the firewood flames.

After checking the time, I left the charcoal-making to proceed and started preparing the dog treats.

First, I warmed the milk.

Then I added agar powder to the warm milk and stirred it well.

“Ara, can you bring me some carrots, sweet potatoes, and nutty ingredients?”

“Okay!”

Ara brought them, and I finely grated the carrots. I planned to bake the sweet potatoes and nutty ingredients using the residual heat from the burnt firewood, so I started with the carrots.

Bubbling.

As the milk started to form bubbles from the heat, I added the finely grated carrots. Then I stirred it on low heat for another 10 minutes.

“That’s it.”

“Done! Is it already finished?”

“Yes, it’s already done.”

Since it was homemade, the color just looked like white soup, with the orange from the carrots scattered like stains.

After turning off the heat, I let it cool for another 10 minutes before dividing it into small square containers. Now we just had to wait for it to set and dry, and it would be complete.

“Isn’t it easy?”

Actually, a dehydrator is needed, so I’ll have to go home to dry them with it. Thanks to Jae-seong, there’s a dehydrator at the main house.

“Kyu-seong Kyu-seong, can I try it?”

“Of course. Go ahead.”

Thanks to the agar powder, Ara carefully scooped up the dog treat, which was half-liquid and half-pudding, and put it in her mouth.

“Yum!”

“How is it?”

“It’s delicious!”

Honestly, even though it’s called a dog treat, it seemed like something that would taste good to humans as well. Considering the ingredients, it’s only natural?

There was plenty, so Ara ate some, and even the kids who were watching each took a bite.

Me? I didn’t eat… no, I couldn’t eat.

Tap, tap, tap-.

After making the dog treats and portioning them several times, the bonfire was nearly out. Checking the time, it was about when the charcoal would be ready too.

“Tada! Here it comes.”

When I gently kicked the scorched cauldron, it toppled over, spilling out the finished black charcoal along with the lid.

“Ohhhh! It’s black!”

“Ara, the soot you got on your face when eating sweet potatoes before was similar to that.”

“Can I do it again?”

“Not on my face…”

The freshly made charcoal was hot, so I let it cool for now. Just in case, I warned the kids to be careful as it was hot and used the embers of the dying bonfire to roast the sweet potatoes and nutty ingredients.

“Soot!”

Meanwhile, Ara, seemingly unbothered by the heat, picked up some charcoal and started doodling on the ground.

“I’m practicing my signature.”

“Sure, sure. Our Ara will have many opportunities to sign things, so let’s practice in advance.”

Ara’s hand gestures became noticeably more careful after hearing my words. Watching Ara seriously draw on the ground melted my expression unwittingly.

After checking the charcoal, I resumed making dog treats. This time, they were made with bell pepper and tomato.

Since the method was so easy, my hands moved naturally, like a factory production line. It could have been a bit monotonous, but with the chattering kids nearby, it was not boring at all.

-Hehe.

Squirm!

The slime and Kkumuris tumbled about, while over there, Woofy and Gomgom were chasing each other as if playing tag.

“Kyu-seong Kyu-seong! Look at this!”

And every time Ara finished a doodle, she would run over to proudly show it to me. As a result, I was busy stirring with the ladle and praising Ara’s signature.

“Alright, the bell pepper dog treats and tomato dog treats are done. Let’s see if the sweet potatoes and nutty ingredients are roasted well.”

Ara, who had tasted the bell pepper and tomato dog treats, followed me around with a happy expression.

Digging through the ashes, the sweet potatoes and nutty ingredients appeared, looking charred. Using a stick, I took them out and blew on them as I peeled off the skin.

“Munch.”

Our Ara couldn’t resist and took a bite. Her lips covered in sweet potato were adorable.

I strained the cooked sweet potatoes, and after removing all the skin from the nutty ingredients, I finely ground them into powder.

Dog treats made with these two ingredients were quickly completed. Ara tasted the finished liquid.

“Mmm!”

Ara gave a thumbs-up. I smiled and neatly packed them in storage containers for Bokkeum.

Before I knew it, it was 9 PM—time to sleep.

“Today was a productive day.”

“Productive!”

We planted peppers, made dog treats, and even created World Tree charcoal…

The task of drying the dog treats would be done at the main house tomorrow. I should share some of the charcoal too. Since charcoal can be used as a humidifier, I’ll suggest giving it a try.

As soon as the next day came, we finished preparing to go out and stepped outside.

And as soon as we arrived home, my mother welcomed Ara and questioned me.

“Is there any more of the soup you made last time?”

“There isn’t.”

“You say it so bluntly, it makes me feel sad.”

“There really isn’t any.”

Instead, I brought something else, Mother.

I immediately took out the containers of liquid dog treats and the charcoal made from the World Tree from Bokkeum.

“What are these?”

“These are dog treats I made myself. And this is charcoal I made myself too.”

“Dog treats? Charcoal?”

Ignoring my mother’s look that seemed to say, “Why did you make something like this?” I went to find the dehydrator. Fortunately, it was just as I expected, sitting in a corner of the storage room.

“Mom, I’ll use this.”

“Go ahead.”

After plugging it in, adjusting the temperature, and setting the time…

“This will take quite a while.”

The drying time was at least 4 hours. It couldn’t be done in one go and had to be done twice. So, in total, 8 hours. Additionally, there was so much dog treat mixture that it couldn’t all be done at once.

“Hmm…”

Oh well, it can’t be helped.

“Mom, when will Seon-ah come?”

“She’ll come after school. Why?”

“I was thinking of giving her some allowance and asking her to do a chore.”

I can’t stay here the whole time, can I?

Honestly, it was an easy job of just taking out the dried batch after 4 hours and putting in the next batch for another 4 hours.

Seon-ah gets her allowance, and I get my time, so it’s a win-win.

“Mmm~! This smells really good. Where did you get it?”

“You know the big tree at our house? I made it myself from that.”

“Wow, this is the first time I’ve smelled charcoal with such a good scent. It almost smells like fresh wood!”

“Use it as a humidifier. Just fill a basin with water and let it sit halfway submerged.”

Ding-dong!

While I was having a conversation with my mother, my phone rang. It was a text message notification.

Upon checking, it was from Guild Leader Han Seok-jun.

“Hmm?”

After reading the message, I momentarily doubted my eyes, but quickly regained composure and stroked my chin.

“What is it?”

“Oh, it’s nothing special. It’s just that the Awakeners Headquarters wants to meet me.”

“Awakeners Headquarters? You mean the government-run Awakeners Headquarters?”

“Yes.”

It’s not that unusual for the Awakeners Headquarters to want to meet me. An Awakener meeting with the Awakeners Headquarters, right?

Isn’t it?

“Kyu-seong Kyu-seong, your hand is shaking.”

“M-my hand? No! Not at all!”

My passive modesty kicked in.

The message only said they wanted to meet me, but why was I trembling like this?

“Meeting them is the right thing to do, right?”

“Of course! You should meet them.”

Listening to my mother’s advice, I immediately replied to the Guild Leader. He must have been waiting for my answer because my phone rang right away.

“Ah, hello, Guild Leader.”

-Yes. I’m contacting you again after just a day. Haha.

Guild Leader Han Seok-jun laughed amicably and asked when I would be available.

“I’m free today or tomorrow.”

-Then, shall we meet tomorrow?

“Alright.”

-There’s no need to be too nervous. They just have a good impression of you and want to greet you.

That makes me even more nervous, Guild Leader. Why would government officials go out of their way to greet someone like me?

-Oh, and you can choose the location. We’ll come to Yangju.

“Y-yes? But there’s no need for you to come all the way here…”

-I feel sorry for always asking you to come to us. I’ll bring people there. I’ll make a reservation at a nearby restaurant.

“Oh, um…”

-Then, I’ll see you tomorrow, Kyu-seong. I’ll send you the location and time by text.

The call ended quickly.

I stared blankly at my phone and then looked at my mother.

“Will… will it be alright?”

“Why are you so nervous? They’re just coming to say hello, right?”

“Yes, well…”

As I stood there bewildered, Ara smiled brightly and grabbed the hem of my pants.

“I want to wear my tiger outfit and say hello!”

“Sure. Since it’s tomorrow, let’s wear your tiger outfit.”

Yeah. It’s just a greeting, after all. What could possibly happen?

‘But why at this time…? Could it be because they heard about the European Union and the Dungeon of Wrath? Why do I feel like this meeting with the Awakeners Headquarters is somehow related to that incident?’

Survival 156

Prev I TOC I Next

“Whew, let’s catch our breath here.”

“Will it be alright? This jungle is my mother’s territory.”

Still worried that the divine archer might follow us,

I couldn’t help but smile at the anxious Freesia.

“Well, my subordinates are strong, so we should be fine for now.”

“But…”

I shrugged and looked at her.

It wasn’t for no reason that I was showing such composure.

I knew the specs of the divine archer from the original story.

If it were just the Tamer and the sword demon, I’d be a bit uneasy too.

‘But with Iscadel, we should be okay.’

He’s a demon who survived harsh conditions in the north.

If he’s serious, he’s one of the strongest among my allies.

Freesia’s lips, which had been tense, parted in surprise.

“I see. I never thought someone could stop my mother, the best warrior in our village…”

“So sit for a moment. Unlike someone, I’m not a fool with just brute strength.”

“Who are you calling a fool!”

Ignoring Freesia’s protest, I took a moment to catch my breath and organize my thoughts.

‘But she’s right; it’s dangerous to stay like this.’

This jungle is the divine archer’s territory.

Plus, she’s the guardian of the World Tree.

If she uses her status to rally forces, we’ll be in trouble in no time.

So the answer is simple.

“Well then, we’ve decided on our destination. Shall we get moving?”

“What’s next? Stopping beastmen? Hunting slave traders?”

“No. You’ve done those tasks well enough. Now it’s time for me to reward you.”

Reward.

At that sweet temptation, Freesia’s ears perked up.

“Could it be…!”

“Let’s leave this jungle.”

We just need to leave her territory.

If we leave the elves’ and beastmen’s living areas and blend in with humans, even the divine archer won’t be able to do much.

Her influence only extends within this jungle.

It doesn’t reach the high walls of human fortresses.

‘As a guardian, she couldn’t even reclaim the World Tree taken by humans.’

The stolen World Tree is proof of that.

“We’re going to the territory of Duke Daimon.”

“To human lands…”

“It’s a place where you can get a taste of the bustling central region.”

Her previous worries vanished, and a new emotion sparkled in the elf girl’s eyes.

Curiosity about the new world beyond the walls.

The anticipation of stepping into that world with her own feet.

‘Maybe I should give her a little warning.’

“I’ll warn you in advance; humans there might not look kindly on elves. They might mistake you for a slave and act rudely. However…”

Seeing the tips of her pointed ears quiver slightly, I smiled.

That’s enough of a warning.

If I want to sell the idea, I should highlight the advantages too.

“I’ll show you the special things you couldn’t see in the jungle. Will you follow me?”

“Of course! That’s why I left the village!”

“Even rebelling against your sky-like mother.”

“Ugh… yeah, that’s right! I want to travel far and wide. Not even Mother can stop me!”

It was a good mindset.

Even if to the master archer, she might have seemed like a troublesome and presumptuous daughter.

To me, she was not merely a valuable energy source but a proactive companion.

As long as her curiosity remained undiminished, Freesia would be an obedient companion.

It was when I spread out the map to locate the Daimon Palace, hoping to meet her expectations.

“Frostmane!” Just then, a familiar voice was heard from that direction.

It was the messenger who had likely already visited the mansion, gracefully landing on the ground with wings fully spread and her honey-colored, luscious hair flowing elegantly.

If there were scores, she would score twelve out of ten.

Although her beauty would have been more pronounced if she were in a dress instead of a maid’s uniform, I thought, “Well, this isn’t bad either.”

That somewhat clumsy appearance added a sense of liveliness to her sculpted looks, giving her a touch of commoner charm, which seemed rather fitting for her.

“I have conveyed your message to the descendant of the warrior as you desired,” she said.

“I apologize for causing you such trouble, Bathory, due to my busy schedule,” I replied.

“…Ha, what are you saying now? As always, you can count on me to fulfill any request you make to me, a mere maid,” she responded, though her words were rather impudent for a maid speaking to her superior.

Nonetheless, from the etiquette of lifting the hem of her maid skirt to her mindset, it was a very satisfactory answer.

Besides, I needed her.

“Glad to hear it. Then may I immediately make my next request?”

“…Of course. What is it?”

“Ah, it’s not a difficult request. You just need to guide me.”

It’s better to have someone who has been there guide you rather than figuring it out from the map.

At my next destination, Bathory sighed in a peculiar way, but I turned to the elf girl and extended my hand.

“So, shall we go to the humans’ castle, Freesia?”

***

“Tsk, why is that guy…?” A rude remark struck my ears as soon as the door opened.

‘Is that something you say to someone who returned safely?’ I suppressed the twitching corner of my mouth.

As Hans Byron, there was no bad blood or significant conversation with him.

Yet, the crown prince’s reaction was colder than expected, openly hostile to the point of making such a remark.

‘So, he doesn’t like me,’ I understood.

The crown prince was naturally supposed to be the leader of the emperor’s faction, but in the academy, all the spotlight was on Luciana, and I, who took the position of her right-hand man and vice-captain, wouldn’t be viewed favorably.

Judging by the atmosphere, it seemed he hadn’t seized the initiative even in my absence.

Nothing special, it was the fitting end for a wretched scumbag.

But the crown prince’s blatant hostility did make the atmosphere tense.

As I pondered whether to further provoke him and ruin his image or to stir sympathy and shift public opinion,

“Hans! Do you know how worried I was?”

A mass of rich pink hair filled my vision.

Elizabeth, who ran up and hugged me tightly, looked every bit like the tragic heroine welcoming back her fiancé who barely escaped from a monster.

“Do you really know how much I suffered?”

Of course, she whispered so closely to my ear that no one else could hear.

However, the content of her secretive whisper was different.

“If you were going to come back, you should have done so quickly. Pretending for too long is tiring.”

“You should have just stayed inside. All you needed to do was show that you were grieving.”

“You can only use that trick for a day or two. People only recognize the truth when they see it often. You need to occasionally show them how you mourn to gain their sympathy.”

There was a subtle sense of pride in her voice as she reproached me.

‘Good grief.’

Seeing her proudly whispering about how she had completely deceived everyone left me speechless.

Is this basic conduct for a merchant?

I wondered where she learned to act like this.

‘Who will take this cunning child?’

“This, I apologize. I had matters to attend to.”

“Never mind. I will make sure you pay for this thoroughly, so be prepared.”

Well, that much is expected.

I intend to commend her for the good work.

As always, if she makes excessive demands, I can just ignore them.

I shrugged my shoulders to show my agreement, and she quietly stepped back.

“…Hans.”

The next person to approach me was Luciana.

In her azure eyes, which seemed sculpted from nobility itself, there was unmistakable joy.

“A servant who does not leave a single message for his master. Don’t you think you are an unfaithful servant?”

“Hahaha, I was so busy trying to survive that I had no time to spare.”

-Didn’t I convey my situation through telepathy? Please be lenient just this once.

“Yes… it’s good enough that you’re alive.”

As our eyes met, Luciana’s gaze softened slightly.

Seeing her match my rhythm well, I knelt on one knee to show proper etiquette.

“Oh…”

“It’s a perfect display of the bond between a master and a loyal servant.”

A faint sigh of admiration escaped from the surroundings.

Yes.

Admire her more.

Luciana is a perfect commander who not only takes good care of her people but also handles public duties efficiently!

-That’s enough. By the way, where is the benefactor who saved you from the sandworm? Since they saved my right hand, I should reward them properly.

Her intention was clear.

Not only did she want to give a simple reward, but she also wanted to ensure a successful future for them by showing recognition in front of the nobles.

‘I don’t know if Freesia would want that, though.’

That’s right.

I had created the narrative that ‘she saved me from the sandworm and took care of me’ to naturally introduce Freesia into human society, deceiving even Luciana first to fool the enemy.

-I have brought her. Shall I call her in now?

-Yes, that would be good.

Smiling faintly, I stood up and continued the conversation naturally.

In line with her intentions.

“If the benefactor I met in the wilderness hadn’t pulled me out of the sandworm’s belly, I would have been digested and died shortly.”

“Oh, that’s commendable. Can you introduce her to me?”

“Yes. You might be surprised to see her.”

Clap, clap.

At the sound of my applause, she entered the banquet hall.

Her silver hair, stopping at her shoulders, was complemented by a pearl necklace and a pure white dress.

And to crown that achromatic look, her jade-like eyes and the emerald ornament at the end of her necklace.

“Oh. What is this…?”

Even the crown prince, who had no eye for beauty, was struck with admiration.

Freesia’s appearance was quite remarkable.

‘Who dressed her up like that?’

Seeing the reaction, it was worth the effort to adorn her since she entered the castle.

Even I thought she looked quite impressive.

However, while most were captivated by her beauty…

“… An elf? How dare you step foot here?”

There are always men who are not swayed by such appearances.

I, with the solid backing of Luciana, was one of them.

Luke Daimon, whose family was currently hostile towards elves, was another.

Luke Daimon, with blazing eyes, strode out and looked at me.

No, he glared at me.

“Sir Byron, I must ask if you are in your right mind. It is common knowledge that an elf cannot remain in this castle unless they are a slave. Especially now, when a conflict has just erupted, we must heighten our vigilance even more.”

Judging by his hostile face, he seemed fully prepared to call the guards at any moment.

I conveyed a message to him that no one else could hear.

– Please wait a moment, Sir Daimon.

“……”

– As a merchant, I believe one must pioneer new markets and target barren lands rich with gold.

Luke Daimon, who had paused, met my gaze once more.

I silently raised the corners of my mouth in a faint smile.

Even though he was still a minor, he was of the golden family’s blood and a merchant; he wasn’t someone who wouldn’t understand what I was implying.

“…Ha. Embrace an elf?”

Certainly, when weighing the risks, bringing an elf into the mansion was dangerous.

Of course, that innocent and curious Freesia would never pose such a threat.

But from the perspective of someone unaware, they might think I was being used to infiltrate the castle easily.

However, if one understands the boundless value of embracing an elf, could they still react that way?

– It is an unchanging truth that elves are the closest beings to the World Tree.

“That’s an old tale. Elves can no longer approach the World Tree. Dwarves and humans now manage it alternately. Are you aware of that?”

‘Tsk, I deliberately used telepathy.’

Luke, who continued to respond aloud, seemed not to have learned such magic yet.

Ignoring the flinching Freesia, I shook my head slightly at Luke’s cynical retort.

– Have those revered humans and dwarves ever made the World Tree bear fruit?

The World Tree’s fruit.

A versatile material full of magic, used in various weapons, ornaments, and potions.

Moreover, it is a rare resource that barely ripens once a year, making it highly sought after in the South.

Mentioning it made Luke’s mouth shut into a straight line.

Instinctively, he knew.

– Elves can do it.

If the information I conveyed through telepathy was true, he would be sitting on a goldmine.

Naturally, his position as the heir to the duchy would be solidified.

The supply of the World Tree’s fruit was the highest return.

A trivial risk was worth taking.

Luke, who had been staring intently at me, glanced at Freesia and then extended a hand towards me.

“In this situation where I should be happy, my words disturbed the atmosphere unnecessarily. Now that Sir Byron is here, I shall report to my father. Please continue to enjoy yourselves.”

I accepted his handshake with a smile.

Whether it was his words or his expression, his ability to change naturally was truly befitting of a noble and a merchant.

He soon excused himself to the attendees and left the room.

Only then did Freesia approach me.

“Did the conversation go well? That person seemed a bit scary.”

“Don’t worry. As I said, I will ensure you travel safely.”

Her confused eyes soon brightened with a cheerful smile.

“Okay! Oh, can I eat this round thing?”

“That’s an egg tart with meringue. Would you like to try some light champagne as well?”

Of course, the hardships that ensue will be yours to bear alone.

“Sir Byron, it’s a relief that you returned safely.”

“So, you came from the jungle? What was it like?”

And then, as soon as Luke left, the other attendees flocked to me.

I answered their concerns and questions one by one, naturally introducing Freesia into the conversation.

“It seems the benefactor knows everything about the jungle. Even after knowing I was human, she not only treated my wounds but also guided me here…”

“Oh my, this is the first time I’ve spoken to an elf, and she’s truly kind-hearted.”

“Oh, th-thank you?”

“Oh my, Miss Freesia, you smell like the forest!”

The sight of the young elf awkwardly responding soon filled the banquet hall with liveliness.

It was clear to everyone that the protagonists of tonight’s banquet were the two of us.

We had taken perfect control of the banquet’s atmosphere.

Even the jealous blue eyes I met beyond the crowd were elements that brought me immense joy.

* * *

“The Lord of the South requests to see Sir Byron.”

If not for that voice that came at the end of the banquet, it would have been the perfect day.

An unexpected extra task made me sigh deeply.
