[You have cleared the quest, ‘Beginner’s Training.’]

[You have obtained a Beginner’s Shovel.]

[You have received 100 gold.]

[You have acquired the skill, ‘Blunt Weapon Mastery LV1.’]

Hiro read the messages and lowered the shovel.

In front of him lay a fallen beginner goblin, which soon vanished into light.

“That’s really impressive.”

Hans muttered quietly.

To be honest, Hans thought Hiro wouldn’t be able to defeat even a beginner goblin with a shovel.

A shovel has no attack power whatsoever.

Even though the beginner goblin is set to be weaker than a normal goblin, it’s still a goblin.

It’s not an easy monster that one can defeat with a shovel.

“You fought really well.”

“Well, it was nothing.”

“Hahaha, no, it was truly remarkable.”

He had witnessed it.

Hiro dodged all of the goblin’s attacks and relentlessly targeted its head with pinpoint accuracy!

The movements he demonstrated were exceptional.

‘He’s got talent. It took longer because it was a shovel, but if it had been a sword, it wouldn’t have taken even 10 seconds.’

Hans felt a chill run down his spine.

It was a gut feeling.

This person might rise to a height that Hans himself could never reach and become a true knight.

Hans had felt inadequate, forcing him to despair and give up.

But if it was Hiro before him, he could make it.

“You…”

“Yes?”

“Have you ever considered becoming a knight?”

Ding!

[Hans’s favorability has increased.]

[Hans feels an overwhelming talent in you that he lacks.]

[Hans believes you can achieve the dream he abandoned.]

[A special job quest ‘Knight of the Sun’ has been generated.]

[Will you accept?]

“What do you think? If you wish, I will give you everything I have.”

A special job.

It is an advanced class that allows the use of special items, titles, and skills.

‘To get it this way?’

According to the community, countless people were desperate to find this special class.

Unlike ordinary classes, special classes possess overwhelming power.

It was said that the rank 1 player held a special class called Dragon Knight.

‘Most rankers have special classes too, don’t they?’

That’s how extraordinary the performance of special classes is.

As such, many people wanted one, and there were even experts dedicated to finding them.

“What do you think? This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!”

Hans was sure Hiro wouldn’t refuse.

He already knew that Hiro liked rare things, and the Knight of the Sun was the rarest of them all.

‘There’s no way he’d refuse. This kind of opportunity won’t come twice.’

He stared at Hiro with shining eyes.

Hiro opened his mouth.

“I will decline.”

[You have declined.]

“What!? Why!?”

“I have something I want to do.”

“Something you want to do? Hmm… well, I guess there’s no helping it. You can’t force someone who has a dream.”

[Hans’s favorability has slightly increased.]

[Hans appreciates your straightforwardness.]

“Hahaha, I heard that Heralds are greedy, but you seem a bit different! I’ll write you a recommendation. If you have this, there will be no entry fee for the guild.”

“Thank you.”

“So, what exactly do you plan to do?”

He was curious.

What was it that Hiro wanted to become, having rejected his offer?

Without hesitation, Hiro replied.

The reason he started his journey as an overlord was to achieve a dream he couldn’t realize in reality.

“I want to be a farmer.”

“Understood.”

***

[Recommendation]

Rank: F

Description: A recommendation letter written by Beginner Trainer Hans.

With this letter, the guild entry fee is waived.

Condition: Must be recognized by Hans.

“Hmm, not bad. I was planning to save money to start farming anyway.”

The guild entry fee was said to be 500 gold.

The gold earned from clearing the quest was only 100 gold.

‘Originally, I would have needed to do side quests to earn more money, right?’

He was lucky.

With Hans’s increased favorability, Hiro received a recommendation letter, allowing him to change his class without worry.

‘And…’

“Check!”

[Beginner’s Shovel]

Rank: F

Description: A shovel suitable for beginners. Used for digging.

Requirements: Level 1 or higher.

Durability: 500/500

Option: Strength +1, Digging Speed +10%

“Not bad. It feels good in the hand too.”

Hiro fiddled with the shovel for a while before putting it in his bag.

“Now that I think about it, I also received this, didn’t I?”

Hiro pulled out another item.

It was given to him by Hans when he declined the special job quest and expressed his desire to become a farmer.

“Check!”

[Unknown Seed]

Rank: ???

Description: A seed of unknown origin. Try planting it.

Requirements: Level 1 or higher.

‘When I was traveling in pursuit of my dream of becoming a knight, I found this seed in a temple. Since you want to be a farmer, I’ll give it to you.’

That’s how he received the seed.

Even after reading the description, he couldn’t figure out what kind of seed it was.

‘First, I’ll change my class to farmer and then plant it.’

Hiro quickly found the Farmer’s Guild.

As he walked through the streets, the scenery of the village came into view.

“Grilled skewers for sale! Just 10 gold! Try it, Heralds!”

“Delicious sweet potatoes for sale! Only 10 gold per potato! So cheap! Hahaha!”

“Herbs for sale! Come and check them out!”

“Cheap equipment available! Perfect for hunting…”

NPCs shouted enthusiastically, actively promoting their goods to players.

It was impressive.

He understood why *Overlord* hadn’t dropped from the top ranking in the year since its launch.

‘This is insane.’

The expressions, tones, and vibes of the NPCs were so lively that they could be mistaken for real humans.

Who could think that they were mere data made of ones and zeros?

‘Is this another world?’

“Amazing.”

Captivated by the scenery, Hiro continued toward the Farmer’s Guild.

The process of obtaining a job was simple.

If one had enough money, they could visit the respective guild to get a job.

Of course, depending on the job, the methods of changing classes varied.

‘To become a rogue, you need to get scouted by stealing, right? Assassins must kill someone.’

Rumor had it that to change class to a priest, you had to enter a temple and pray for ten days.

‘For mages, there’s supposedly a written exam.’

There were even cheats circulating online related to the mage’s written exam.

“Is this the place?”

Hiro found the Farmer’s Guild.

Changing his class wasn’t difficult.

He entered the guild, showed the NPC the recommendation letter, and immediately changed his class.

[You have changed your class to Farmer.]

[You have obtained the title, ‘Novice Farmer.’]

[Novice Farmer]

Rank: E (Multi)

Requirement: Change class to Farmer.

Option: Additional farming skill experience gain.

Description: Hmmm… A very promising novice farmer has arrived.

“Congratulations on becoming a farmer! You are now officially a farmer.”

“Really?”

“Yes! I never imagined a Herald would come here with a recommendation letter.”

Hannah, the NPC at the Farmer’s Guild, looked at Hiro with curiosity.

The recommendation letter is given by the instructor when a Herald defeats a beginner goblin in one strike.

“Usually, this letter is given only when a Herald shows exceptional talent, so most Heralds go to other guilds… This is surprising.”

“I wanted to farm.”

“Oh my goodness!”

[Hannah’s favorability has increased.]

“You’re quite a unique Herald!”

“Why? Farming is fun. Growing your own crops and harvesting them… the feeling is…”

“Ah… It’s truly an indescribable joy.”

[Hannah’s favorability has increased significantly.]

“I’m so moved by how earnest you are about farming, Herald!”

[Hannah’s favorability has increased significantly, allowing you to receive a special gift.]

“Will you accept this? I shouldn’t be giving this away, but… this is a special service for you, Herald!”

[You have acquired the ‘Land Clearing’ skill book.]

[You have acquired the ‘Seed Planting’ skill book.]

[You have acquired the ‘Harvesting’ skill book.]

‘Oh… I’m lucky.’

Normally, skill books had to be purchased with money.

Hiro had found out that each skill book cost around 500 gold.

‘Considering that 100 gold equals 1,000 won, 500 gold is…’

5,000 won.

While it wasn’t a huge amount, saving money was always a good thing.

“Thank you.”

“No problem! Oh, and if you want to farm, you’ll need land. Go behind the guild, where you’ll find guild-owned land. You can farm freely there.”

Hannah smiled and said, “The land in Plants Village is vast!”

***

“Is this the place?”

Hiro went to the back of the guild, as Hannah had instructed.

This area was land purchased by the Farmer’s Guild, where farming could be done freely.

‘There’s no one around?’

“Well, farming wasn’t exactly a popular class on the internet either.”

The vast land lay idle.

With no one around, Hiro was free to do whatever he wanted here.

“Should I start by learning the skills?”

Hiro took out the three skill books given by Hannah and used them.

[You have learned the skill, Land Clearing LV. 1.]

[You have learned the skill, Seed Planting LV. 1.]

[You have learned the skill, Harvesting LV. 1.]

[Land Clearing LV. 1]

Rank: F

Type: Passive

Experience: 0.00%

Description: Makes land clearing easier.

Effect: +10% work speed, -10% stamina consumption during work.

[Seed Planting LV. 1]

Rank: F

Type: Passive

Experience: 0.00%

Description: Enhances seed growth in the garden.

Effect: +10% growth speed, +5% yield.

[Harvesting LV. 1]

Rank: F

Type: Passive

Experience: 0.00%

Description: Makes crop harvesting easier.

Effect: +10% harvesting speed, -10% stamina consumption during harvest.

These three skills were essential for anyone pursuing the farmer class.

‘Then, should I start by planting sweet potatoes?’

Hiro took out 100 sweet potato seeds, which he had bought with a discount for 100 gold.

He also had a beginner’s hoe.

The Farmer’s Guild provided the hoe for free to beginner farmers.

Hiro tilted his head while examining the sweet potato seeds.

‘Sweet potatoes are usually grown from slips or sprouts.’

Sweet potatoes are one of the crops that need to be grown by planting the tuber itself, not seeds.

However, in *Overlord*, most crops could be planted from seeds for player convenience.

“Alright, let’s start by planting this.”

Hiro first took out the unknown seed given by Hans.

At that moment:

Ding!

[Hidden Piece Discovered!]

[The farmer has acquired an unknown seed.]

“Huh? What’s this?”

Hiro wore a surprised expression.

The next moment, a strong light burst from the seed, enveloping Hiro’s body.

By the time the light faded, Hiro had vanished from Plants Village without a trace.

“Oh right! Hiro, please remember to return the hoe later… huh? Where did he go? Has he already left?”

Hannah came out late, but when she couldn’t see Hiro, she returned to the guild.

‘Well, he’ll come back to the guild eventually, so he should bring it back.’

But Hannah didn’t know.

The hoe she had lent Hiro would never be returned.

***

Meanwhile, Hiro found himself in a new place.

“This is….”

Ding!

[You are the first Herald to visit the Spirit Realm.]

[You have discovered the Temple of a Forgotten God.]

“What….”

He was in the Spirit Realm.

Survival 155

Prev I TOC I Next

Calm down.

Even if the opponent is a divine archer, there’s no need to bow down so much.

‘If she intended to kill me from the start, she would have shot my neck, not the paper.’

Although the system message labeled her as a boss, even Bathory had that label.

What mattered more was how to navigate the future relationship.

Even if the opponent harbored hostility, as long as there was no intent to kill, it would be better to act shamelessly.

“Why would the busy divine archer come here?”

“I came to find my runaway daughter. I didn’t expect her to be mingling with a ruffian like you.”

I turned around following the piercing gaze of the divine archer.

The tree behind me, a tiny ear protruding from its side was trembling slightly.

“Come out, Freesia. I can see you.”

“M-Mother…”

“I returned immediately after receiving an urgent message that you were kidnapped, but it seems that’s not the case.”

Sigh.

A deep sigh echoed through the forest.

There was no touching reunion between mother and daughter here.

Only an interrogation of responsibilities.

“It’s my fault for being busy recently and neglecting your education. Freesia, let’s go back to the village.”

“Mother, I…”

Unable to answer properly, she hesitated, so I stepped in.

“I’m sorry, but that’s not possible, Divine Archer.”

“…What do you mean?”

“Miss Freesia has made a contract with me.”

A talent you already gave up on, I’ve already claimed.

Trying to use parental relationships to annul it? I couldn’t stand to watch that.

The moment our eyes met, my determination was clear.

“Outsider…!”

For a moment, the divine archer’s hostility grew sharper.

Sharp enough to scare the other beastmen and elves nearby.

‘Quite sharp indeed.’

But for me, it was just a bit of a sting on my tongue.

Having experienced the murderous intent of Bathory, who was furious after her seal was broken, I could brush this off calmly.

I continued in a leisurely voice.

“Outsider? She’s someone who fulfilled the conditions I set. I have an obligation to reward her.”

Though it’s just scribbles on a piece of paper, a contract is a contract, no matter what.

Feigning calmness with shamelessness, with an expression as if made of steel, I looked not only at the divine archer but also at Freesia and the other spectators, who were all looking at me in disbelief.

“Reward? There’s no need for her to receive that from a human. Let’s pretend this never happened, and you can leave now.”

As if shaking off a nuisance, the divine archer sighed deeply as she said that.

But her gaze wasn’t directed at me.

“Eek!”

Sensing her mother’s fierce gaze,

Freesia immediately hid behind the tree, making sure even her ears weren’t visible.

Despite knowing she was already caught.

It was her way of expressing defiance and her strongest will.

‘This is just great. I’m not her spokesperson.’

Clicking my tongue, I shielded Freesia… the tree with my body.

Maybe I should speak on behalf of our mischievous elf lady.

“That’s something Miss Freesia should claim, not something for you to say as her mother.”

“What did you say?”

Ignoring her angry voice, I shook my head.

Not lightly in denial, but openly and mockingly.

“She’s now 107 years old. Am I mistaken?”

“…Has she gotten so close to this human that she even revealed her age? Please, Freesia!”

“N-No! Mother, I only exchanged names with him!”

Freesia, who had been hiding behind the tree, suddenly came out and shouted, revealing her suspicion.

“Frost Mane… how on earth did you find out my age?”

I shrugged my shoulders.

How could I explain?

Could I say that the moment she signed, all her personal information as a follower was in my hands?

[Freesia Evergreen] – [Distrust]

[Details]

[Race: Elf (High Elf)]

[Gender: Female]

[Age: 107]

[Specialty: Archery, Magic]

[Hobby: Playing house with spirits]

…Listing it all out like this, I suddenly feel like a stalker.

Hmm, indeed.

It’s enough if you just think of me as a sly and cunning madman.

Setting aside my slightly pricked conscience, I smoothly concocted a plausible excuse.

“Well, does it really matter how? Whether I did prior research or asked the villagers.”

“You, you…!”

Ignoring the stammering Freesia, I turned back to the divine archer.

The hostility piercing through my entire body was intensifying.

Mana was added to the sheer willpower she was emitting, and the stinging pain grew stronger.

Meeting her eyes, filled with surging anger, I lifted the corners of my mouth again.

Her gaze, which had been fixed solely on her daughter, was now staring straight at me.

That was…

‘Quite… pleasing.’

Compared to the vague indifference from before, there was a clear emotion now.

If I had to describe it, it was like a salad with spicy and tangy balsamic dressing.

“Finally, you’re looking at me properly.”

“I thought you were just an arrogant human who insulted the World Tree.”

It was clear that the divine archer’s perspective on me had changed.

From a petty criminal she could kill at any time, to a kidnapper trying to deceive her naive daughter, with the threat to my life having doubled, I smoothly continued to speak.

“Let’s continue from earlier. Miss Freesia is 107 years old. By human standards, she is already an adult, fully qualified to make contracts.”

“This is the World Tree’s domain. Human laws are less than fallen leaves here!”

“That may be true in the elf village, but strictly speaking, this is neutral territory. Or rather, it was until recently occupied by slave hunters, making it human territory.”

Our gazes clashed in the air, almost sparking with electricity.

Then both the divine archer and I, as if by agreement, turned to Freesia.

“There’s no need to hear more! Freesia, come quickly. Don’t listen to this lunatic’s words and let’s return to the village!”

Maybe it was because I had freed the elves from the slave hunters.

The divine archer reluctantly tore her gaze from me and focused again on her daughter.

And, Freesia seemed quite shaken.

“Mother…”

“Well, if Miss Freesia agrees, it’s not my place to argue. There were no clauses about penalty for breach of contract anyway.”

A delicate…

No, an openly sarcastic voice.

And then,

Tsk.

I clicked my tongue loudly so that both Freesia and the divine archer could hear.

“What’s your problem?”

“Isn’t it ridiculous?”

In response to the divine archer’s sharp tone, I shrugged sarcastically.

“I’m well aware that elves come of age on their 108th birthday. But does that prevent them from making contracts?”

Mental maturity?

Freesia is a clever girl who knows how to discern right from wrong, though she’s a bit curious and restless.

From the moment she deliberately got swallowed by the sandworm to venture outside, it was clear.

She could have avoided it.

She could have escaped.

But even after being swallowed, Freesia followed me.

It wasn’t mere youthful wandering.

Of course, there was ambition and recklessness.

But along with that, she had the conviction to take responsibility for her choices.

What is the divine archer worried about?

That she might stray onto the wrong path, opposing the World Tree?

No.

She has already destroyed the advance base of the beastmen who sought to attack the World Tree and saved her kin from human clutches.

‘She’s lived over 107 years; she must have matured long ago.’

Maybe because I’m not an elf, but to me, it seemed odd that the divine archer had kept her cooped up in the village for 107 years.

“Freesia, let me ask you.”

“Ask me?”

“Yes. Will you quietly return, only to be even more confined until you come of age, never to see the outside world again? This incident will bind you tighter. You might end up in an even higher cage compared to your current one.”

“…”

“Or-”

I suddenly grabbed her hand.

“Will you come with me, experiencing the warm sands of the west, the cool sea of the east, the cold snow of the north, and the bustling streets of the central region? Experience the vast world.”

“I…”

Her emerald pupils wavered with uncertainty.

The divine archer’s furious voice rang out.

“Freesia! Don’t listen to that vile human!”

“M-Mother…”

“I was going to tell you when you came of age, but it can’t be helped now. When you come of age, you will become the Guardian of the World Tree with me. What’s a village? You’ll be able to travel all over the south and enjoy the freedom you’ve longed for!”

At that, I felt my lips stretch into a wide grin.

What freedom?

It’s just a new yoke called the Guardian of the World Tree.

“Hahaha! It seems your idea of freedom and mine are quite different.”

“…You.”

As expected, the honor bestowed by an old elf like her is worth nothing.

Freedom so tiny it’s like a grain of sand. That’s all it is.

Amidst the background noise of the divine archer grinding her teeth, I savored my mocking laughter and re-evaluated the situation.

I carefully observed the confused Freesia from head to toe.

‘Judging by the conditions alone, Freesia won’t shake off my hand. But…’

The only variable is that they are blood relatives.

She might be swayed by that bond and return to the village.

‘That won’t do. There’s so much work she needs to do.’

Traveling is just an excuse.

Not only for Freesia’s full potential, but also for the advice she can offer on the combination of magic, aura, and spirit magic as a high elf.

How could I let such a talent slip away?

‘I must include her in my list of companions.’

With that resolve, I put on a kind smile and spoke to sever her last attachment.

“Freesia, humans have a concept called ‘independence.’”

“Independence…?”

“Yes. It refers to when an adult child steps out of their parents’ shadow to build their own life.”

With that, I turned my head.

Grinning widely.

At an angle where Freesia couldn’t see, I showed a malicious smile to the divine archer.

I delivered the final blow.

“With adulthood approaching, this is the perfect time to leave your mother’s embrace, isn’t it?”

The perfect pretext for her desires.

The best paint to color Freesia’s pure canvas was the paint of rebellion.

Soon, the trembling that had been transmitted through her hand ceased.

“…Mother.”

“Freesia! Don’t tell me…!”

“I know I have to succeed the role of the Guardian of the World Tree. I understand that you kept me in the village because you were worried about the threats outside.”

“Freesia…! You understood your mother’s intentions.”

For a moment, the divine archer’s face brightened.

“Then let’s go back to the village. I’ll make you a salad after a long time.”

Seeing her mother, who was sure Freesia would come with her, Freesia shook her head.

“I’m sorry. But I’d rather travel the wider world with Frost Mane than remain as the Guardian of the World Tree.”

She did not let go of my hand.

In fact, she held it even tighter.

“Frost Mane, I did as you asked. I stopped the beastmen and helped defeat the slave hunters. Now it’s your turn to keep your promise.”

“Of course, as promised.”

“What are you deciding on your own?”

But, there was an interrupter who couldn’t accept such a peaceful scene.

A calm voice.

Of course, it was like the precursor to a volcanic eruption.

The divine archer, struggling to suppress her boiling anger, reached for her bow.

[Warning]

[The forest spirit is boosting the boss, the divine archer, with encouraging energy.]

[Strength and agility are increasing.]

A spirit’s buff before the battle.

She was already prepared to fight.

“…I’ve been too kind to someone who opposes the World Tree.”

It seems she finally realized what works on a madman.

But it was too late.

The cunning human had already secured her precious daughter!

“I’ll pierce that vile tongue of yours.”

“If you can.”

The divine archer from the original story could pierce dozens of heads with a single arrow, take on a wyvern alone, and survive the combined attack of thousands of monsters.

But, I raised the corners of my mouth into a smooth smile.

The divine archer.

She’s certainly a strong opponent, but not unbeatable.

‘The warning alarms on my status screen are quite accurate.’

Usually, it rings at its own convenience, but at least it reliably alerts me to crises and hardships that are difficult to handle.

The calm status screen was telling me.

That this crisis could be navigated successfully.

In that case, is it utterly impossible for me to repel her?

To conclude, of course, it is impossible.

The opponent is the divine archer.

One of those who face calamities head-on, a top-tier existence comparable to Freesia.

With my pathetic stats, there’s no way I could be her match.

But this is only true in a one-on-one situation.

“Master! Why do you provoke such a significant figure while instructing us to treat elves as favorably as possible?”

Tamer, speaking politely, trying to protect me.

“Huh, Master, it’s not my place to say, but the Calamity of Many Faces has bestowed quite a harsh trial. Well, I do enjoy facing strong opponents.”

The sword demon, slicing the space between me and the high elf with just one sword, with a friendly tone.

‘And Freesia, who chose me…’

Oh, not Freesia.

Even if she decided to run away, she wouldn’t be capable of attacking her mother.

“Do you think a mere three humans can defeat me?”

Kwah!

The divine archer was about to pull the bowstring without hesitation.

“That’s unlikely. I’m someone who seeks maximum safety.”

Especially when facing a skilled opponent like the divine archer, I must also give my all.

[Manage Followers]

I immediately summoned the religious system.

With Bathory absent, I had to summon my maximum power.

Then, as if focusing,

I flicked my hand and used a skill.

[Ex rank: Divine Summons]

[Faith Skill]

[Devoted followers must naturally respond to the call of their deity.]

[Target: Iscadel]

[Do you wish to summon?]

[Y/N]

“This Iscadel, gladly responds to the call of the king. Assign me any task.”

A reindeer, emitting a strange light from its antlers, knelt halfway, bowing its head in greeting.

A black tongue slithered between the cracks in its chest.

With this, I had three fanatics who would die for my command.

A force sufficient to face the divine archer.

I sensed the divine archer’s astonishment, but I ignored it.

“Stall for time. Until this elf lady and I can escape safely.”

“I could do it alone. With these strong comrades, I won’t even get injured. Rest assured and withdraw, my king.”

The wendigo, cheerfully jesting with a reindeer’s face, exchanged glances with me.

Soon.

Pulling the still firmly held hand, I kicked off the ground.

“Frost Maneee~!”

Through the cacophony of clashing magic and spells, arrows, swords, and the teeth of monsters, the desperate cries of the divine archer echoed from afar.

The spicy taste of anger burning my tongue was quite pungent.

“Mother…”

“Don’t hold onto regrets. Instead of affection, didn’t you choose more valuable freedom? I will support your courageous choice.”

Then, I turned my back, so Freesia couldn’t see my face.

And, since she’s an archer with good eyesight,

I smiled the victor’s smile towards the divine archer who could clearly see this side.

-Aaaahhhhhhh!

The grief of a mother who lost her daughter.

That sweet emotion made my shoulders tremble with delight.

Round 155

Prev | TOC | Next

Located in Huam-dong, Seoul, the headquarters of the Awakener Association of Korea. Since the headquarters was established, many things have happened, but there has never been a situation like this.

“Hmm…”

In the headquarters’ conference room, Director Jeon Young-joo, who was sitting at the head seat, listened to the report along with a PowerPoint presentation. She sighed as she looked at the data.

“This is unprecedented.”

“Yes, it is.”

“So you’re saying that this was all caused by just one Awakener?”

“That’s correct.”

The conference room was filled with many employees. The reason why they were all gathered here today was because of the Ara Hongryeon Guild. The guild’s unprecedented growth was unlike anything seen since guilds first appeared in Korea. Not only in performance but also in stability and efficiency, it had reached the top in the country. Initially, the headquarters had dismissed this as a temporary boom, but now it was different.

“All indicators have not only maintained for a full six months but have even grown. Is this even possible?”

Although she questioned the situation, there was no denying the figures and information. In reality, Ara Hongryeon was currently conquering dungeons across the nation. For the headquarters, which had always struggled with numerous difficult dungeons, this was like rain during a drought. However, Director Jeon Young-joo was taken aback by this sudden change.

While Jeon Young-joo was rubbing her head, Team Leader Kim Ho-jin, who was next to her, handed over another document.

“This is an Awakener named Lee Kyu-seong.”

“Hmm, suspected dual awakening…”

It was not merely suspicion; it was almost confirmed. No one gathered here doubted the dual awakening.

After briefly skimming through the report, Jeon Young-joo nodded and spoke.

“A farming ability… it’s something I’ve never seen before.”

“The important thing is that the produce from this ability are items.”

“…And he has already made contact with Skyscraper?”

“According to our investigation, they are already working behind the scenes to recruit him. There’s even news that they’ve prepared residency rights for him.”

“That’s fast.”

Jeon Young-joo secretly wiped away a cold sweat. Although she had heard about Kyu-seong’s existence from time to time, she had been too preoccupied with the dungeon of Avarice and the European Awakener Union.

However, when the European Union contacted her about Kyu-seong’s items, it became an urgent matter.

“I didn’t pay enough attention… it was a mistake.”

But calling it a mistake wasn’t entirely accurate because Kyu-seong had been acting freely until now, thanks to Ara Hongryeon’s incredible protection. Ara Hongryeon had been taking care of him so discreetly that even Lee Kyu-seong himself didn’t notice.

However, with Ara Hongryeon’s performance, the reputation of the crops gradually began to spread, and their connection with the Iron Blood and Terror Guilds naturally came to light.

“We must protect him as much as possible, even now. We can’t stop domestic guilds from competing, but letting him go abroad would be a huge loss.”

“It’s possible that many guilds within China have already noticed due to their connection with Skyscraper. Moreover, there are reports of a link with Ino Junichi of Japan, as his brother works at a restaurant under Junichi.”

“Hmm.”

Jeon Young-joo groaned in frustration and held her head.

The only consolation was that the European Union and the United States were still unaware of Kyu-seong’s existence. The European Union might have an inkling about the existence of crop items, but they still didn’t know who owned them.

“With the presence of Awakener Lee Kyu-seong, our country might become the center of a storm.”

Another team leader from across the table expressed this opinion, and Jeon Young-joo fully agreed.

“It’s too late for us to intervene now. Trying to hide it at this point would just be like covering one’s eyes and pretending not to see. All we can do now is prepare for the approaching storm.”

“I’ll first make contact with Ara Hongryeon.”

“Yes, and if I can meet Awakener Lee Kyu-seong, I’ll go see him personally. I need to establish some kind of rapport and have a conversation with him. Contacting the European Union comes after that.”

Jeon Young-joo, along with everyone at the Awakener Association, thought the same thing. If anything went wrong, they could all be dismissed. In fact, it wasn’t just about dismissal; if Lee Kyu-seong’s presence was taken overseas, it would mean losing a talent that could elevate Korea’s status.

“Protect him at all costs, even now!”

It was a moment when everyone, from the director to the newest member, shared the same thought.

***

After an unexpected meal, we returned to the dungeon. Honestly, I wanted to have a meal with the first and second team leaders, but they are such busy people that it’s hard to meet them unless they find time to see me.

“Well, everyone seemed satisfied, so…”

I felt proud for no reason. Of course, at first, everyone seemed to freeze after experiencing the effect of the Golden Carrot Soup, but I repeatedly emphasized that it was an item I couldn’t cultivate, so they should understand. Actually, it didn’t matter what they thought. If they misunderstood, it would only enhance my value.

“Hey, we’re back.”

-Neigh.

-Woof!

As always, we were first greeted by Purr and Woofy. Come to think of it, I decided to make dog chews for Purr, and now that I have some time, I should try making them. I found that some dog chews are made with grains, so I just need to figure out how to make them.

-Pant pant pant.

Purr shrank to the size of a dachshund as I petted it. When I stopped, it grew to the size of a retriever. It was always fascinating and amazing to see this ability.

“As expected, it’s not just any high-level monster.”

It could control temperature and was strong, making it a very reliable companion for us.

-Haha.

“Oh, did it come with you?”

Hearing the familiar cries, I turned to see Kkumuris sitting on Woofy’s back. It wasn’t so much riding as just being there, as if it had merely followed along. Such a sight was part of Kkumuris’s charm.

Kkumuris’s leisurely attitude was close to my ideal, fitting for someone like me who dreams of a laid-back life.

-Haha.

“What’s going on?”

Kkumuris and Ara suddenly started a conversation. I couldn’t understand, so I waited quietly for Ara to interpret.

“Do we need to go a little slower? Is it a surprise?”

“Surprise?”

Gasp!

Could it be another star-rated crop?!

But it didn’t seem like that. From listening further to the conversation, it seemed like they were building something again in the Slime Village.

Seeing them making something on their own, landscaping, and constructing buildings was quite impressive. Ah, the Goblin Village construction needs to start soon too.

-Haha.

“Can we go now?”

Finally, we got the okay sign.

Riding on Woofy’s back, we headed to Slime Village. What could they have prepared?

“Hmm?”

“Oh!”

When we arrived at the village, there wasn’t anything as spectacular as I had anticipated. There was just a peculiar clothesline-like structure connecting the buildings. Hanging on the clothesline were blocks of meju (fermenting soybeans) placed on straw to ferment.

‘I know that’s how they do the second fermentation.’

But already?

As far as I know, fermenting meju takes quite a bit of time. The first fermentation alone takes months, so why are they hanging it like that?

“Sniff sniff! What an interesting smell! Is this doenjang (fermented soybean paste)?”

Ara quickly ran over to smell the hanging meju. Having already tasted the doenjang stew made by my mother, Ara seemed full of anticipation.

“Let’s see. Oh? Is it fermented?”

I thought, “Could it be already?” It looked and smelled as though it had fermented properly.

Of course, I wouldn’t really know since it’s my first time making meju, but I did study quite a bit about making it.

“Hmm, this smell… it’s certain.”

I nodded, pretending to be an expert. Seeing this, Ara’s eyes sparkled with admiration.

“You knew just from the smell! As expected, Kyu-seong Kyu-seong is amazing! So cool!”

-Haha.

Come to think of it, these adorable creatures are even managing the meju by themselves. At this rate, I really might become a honey-sucking bee, just like my father said.

‘But the fermentation time was much faster than I expected. I’m not sure how the second fermentation will go, but it seems like the time will be shortened even more.’

By rough calculation, it seemed that the meju might be completed by the end of this month.

Doenjang! Doenjang!

Of course, it’s right to judge by tasting it. Since it’s meju made from my crops, it might not taste like the familiar doenjang we know.

Still, the smell was quite satisfactory. Also, considering crops like garlic or lettuce, there are some whose taste doesn’t differ much from Earth’s, so there was room for expectation.

“I should buy jars in advance.”

To turn meju into doenjang, it needs to be placed in a jar. This way, I could naturally make soy sauce as well.

And it would actually be nice to have red chili peppers.

Meju isn’t the only ingredient that goes into the jar; water, dried red peppers, dried jujubes, and charcoal are also needed.

Among these, assuming I buy dried jujubes as a commercial product, the rest could be sourced from here.

‘I should try making charcoal from the branches of the World Tree!’

Wow. I wondered what charcoal made from the World Tree would feel like! Just thinking about it made me excited.

“I can’t wait. Let’s start the chili pepper farm right away!”

“Oh, we’re farming chili peppers!”

Ara cheered and ran ahead.

I followed and stopped by the seed storage to gather chili pepper seeds and the light-exposure device provided by the guild through Bokkeum.

I had planned to start right after winter ended, but I was a few days late. It doesn’t matter! We can start now!

The field for the chili pepper farm was already prepared. All that was needed was to plant the seeds.

Ara and I planted the chili pepper seeds according to the designated plots. The land was about 2,000 pyeong (approximately 6,600 square meters), and although it seemed expansive, in terms of actual farming on Earth, 2,000 pyeong would hardly qualify as a farm.

‘But my crops yield an incredible harvest even on small plots of land!’

I really couldn’t argue against the saying that I was sucking honey.

“Cough!”

Suddenly pricked by my conscience, I clasped my hands together and bowed to the ground.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m giving thanks to all the farmers around the world.”

“Oh! I’m doing it too.”

Ara followed my lead and bowed beside me.

After briefly giving thanks to those who would never receive it, I took the device out from Bokkeum.

“Whew, it’s fortunate that I’m an Awakener. It’s quite heavy.”

The device was designed to be installed on the ceiling of a greenhouse. Conveniently, I had some leftover steel frames I bought over the winter, so I installed them all in the chili pepper field.

Since the machine is powered by magic stones, I was a bit worried about the maintenance cost, but I heard it was surprisingly efficient and not much different from using electricity.

As I installed the machines here and there, I started to realize that I had become a level 2 Awakener.

‘My stamina and strength have improved!’

The improvement was noticeable. If this was the case at level 2, just how strong were people like Hanul, Si-young, or Ino Junichi, whom I met regularly?

‘That’s why they can defeat monsters.’

Thinking about it again, I was glad I chose farming. Just imagining fighting monsters made me shiver.

Squirming!

I saw slimes that had approached and were wandering around the chili pepper field. Watching them roll around was both amusing and adorable.

Squirm!

“Hello, Mark2. I’ll rely on you here, too.”

Mark2 gestured as if saluting and headed into the field.

Now, the chili peppers are done.

Should I practice making charcoal with the World Tree wood now? Or should I make dog chews first?

“Either way, I need to check the internet!”

Let’s go out and start by searching online.

Stella, seated with her, spoke up with a hint of a headache.

“That person, I heard he has no connections in noble society.”

“That’s what I’ve heard as well.”

Noel answered with a bewildered expression.

“I thought he’d be someone similar, being the husband of that always dignified hero, but he’s just a fortunate young man. When will he come to my estate? I’ll treat him well.”

“I’ll be waiting, Sir Baron. Ah, General, you should come with us later—”

In front of them was Aiden, talking with several people simultaneously while wearing a sociable smile.

He conversed casually with the sly nobles, leading the mood as if he were quite used to this type of gathering, almost as if this was his ‘main job.’

Laughter never ceased around him.

Even those who had been wary of the mysterious man who commanded important foreign personnel as aides relaxed and grew friendlier the more they talked with him.

Of course, it was clear from the beginning that he must be skilled at handling people, considering his occupation as a con artist, but honestly…

‘It wasn’t a lie?’

Noel scratched her cheek as such thoughts passed through her mind.

She couldn’t count how many times that man had impressed her when it came to ‘fights.’

It was clear that such skills could only come from rigorous training in abilities and combat since childhood.

People like him typically struggle with social situations, as they wouldn’t have experienced much of them.

Like Noel herself.

She had always found these gatherings difficult, so she couldn’t help but be envious of his talent.

‘Aiden, you’re quite something, aren’t you?’

As she thought this, she absentmindedly wiggled her toes.

‘It was a good idea to leave it to the Central Intelligence Agency.’

The problem was that by this point, she had even less idea who he originally was.

She sighed inwardly, recalling the ‘profile’ she had submitted about Aiden.

It was fortunate she had that, or she wouldn’t have been able to guess who he was at all.

“So, how’s your married life with the Lionheart?”

“I think I’m blessed with a partner far too good for me. I live benefiting from her every day.”

…It might seem a bit much, going around stubbornly repeating things like ‘I won’t let you lose confidence,’ but…

She downed a glass of champagne in one go.

If she had to watch him spout such embarrassing words in real-time, she needed to dull her senses a bit.

“Would you like another drink?”

“Ah, please—”

As she said this and turned her head toward the voice that had approached her, a chilling sensation surged through her veins.

“Are you enjoying the banquet, Lady Noel?”

…….

“It’s the first time we’ve met face-to-face since the battle with the Magical Kingdom, isn’t it? You haven’t changed at all.”

Not responding to someone continuing a conversation so familiarly like this was a mistake Noel would never normally make.

But—

—if the person was him.

His polite voice, courteous demeanor, and the dignity and formality woven into every gesture…

This was a man who radiated such noble aura that it was hard to approach, but for Noel, he was the last person on earth she wanted to meet.

Just hearing what he said next confirmed that.

“You found yourself a decent ‘substitute,’ didn’t you? Even as a fake, he’s not lacking as a husband.”

Without batting an eye, he dug deep into her heart as if stabbing her with a dagger.

“Was my proposal that unbearable to you? I’m a little hurt.”

He said jokingly, and with great difficulty, she managed to call him by his ‘title’ in a voice that even carried a hint of fear.

“…Your Highness.”

The prince, her once prospective groom, smiled warmly.

-System Message-

[The ‘Weaver of Fate’ skill is working smoothly.]

[Rewards will be given based on the ‘relationship bond’ gained from the target.]

[ Baron Lannister shows favor toward you.]

[ Viscount Klinksmann shows favor toward you.]

[Colonel Shepard shows favor toward you…]

‘Yes, yes, yes…’

Aiden silently smiled as he looked at the system messages updating beside him.

He was merely standing and conversing with those around him, yet people’s favor toward him continued to increase, like fish constantly swimming into a well-placed trap.

First impressions were indeed crucial.

By giving off the impression of an ‘important person,’ people naturally showed favor toward him even when he only engaged in casual conversation.

‘I’m glad I dressed up nicely…!’

It must be due to the effects of his ‘royal lineage’ skill and having Katia by his side as his aide.

Aiden himself wasn’t anyone special.

He had just been living an ordinary life.

His skill in conversation and ability to gauge emotions were his talents, but the ‘stage’ to display these talents was set up thanks to his skills and the people he surrounded himself with.

Still, what bothered him was that the form of ‘rewards’ this time seemed slightly different from what he had seen before.

-System Message-

[The scenario importance of the targets is low. The number of skills you can copy is significantly limited.]

[The Weaver of Fate converts to ‘points.’ Once a certain level of points accumulates, the ‘Point Shop’ will open!]

‘A Point Shop, huh.’

He didn’t know what kind of function that was, but at least it didn’t seem like a bad thing.

‘It feels like I’ve spoken to quite a lot of people…

He must have spoken to at least dozens, but this shop still hasn’t opened.

He didn’t know for sure, but they must be holding onto some enormous things, so that’s probably why.

‘Still, I should be meeting them soon, right?’

The person he was aiming to meet hadn’t appeared yet. One of the two should be coming out soon.

Fortunately, there was no need to dwell on that thought any further.

A familiar face was approaching from the side.

“Ah, Sir Aiden.”

“Chieftain?”

It was Dunadan U’zal, the dragon slayer.

He had heard that Dunadan was still staying in the Empire for the sake of diplomacy, and it seemed he had attended the banquet as well.

However, what caught Aiden’s attention was not Dunadan but the small woman walking beside him in step.

“And this is…?”

Though he asked, Aiden had a rough guess about her identity.

She was one of the reasons he had come to this banquet.

“This is my eldest daughter, Rania Ashan.”

At those words, the woman lifted her head slightly to look at Aiden.

Rania left quite a unique impression on Aiden.

She was beautiful. Beautiful, but…

With her thick pink hair, an eyepatch covering one eye, the loosely draped traditional attire of the Tribal Union, a tattoo trailing from her collarbone to her neck, a perpetually uninterested expression, and a cigarette cynically hanging from her lips…

In addition to that—

“Hello.”

With a flick of her fingers and a casual, informal greeting, she certainly didn’t give off the image of a priestess who worships a god.

Not at all.

But Aiden didn’t particularly mind such things.

“The priests of Urgan never use honorifics for anyone except Urgan himself. In fact, using them would be considered rude, so I ask for your understanding.”

“Yes, that’s fine.”

What Dunadan said, almost apologetically, was already an established fact in the game.

Considering the position that the priestess of Urgan held within the Tribal Union, it was not at all strange for her to speak informally to Aiden.

Each deity has a representative who acts as a direct conduit for their will, and in the Tribal Union, that role is filled by the priestess.

Since they have a ‘direct line’ to their god, they rank highly among the superhumans who deal with supernatural abilities, both in terms of combat power and symbolic significance.

A person in such a position could not be treated carelessly, not even by the grand chieftain of the union. In fact, she might even hold more value than the chieftain standing next to her.

“Nice to meet you, Miss Rania.”

Aiden greeted her, but there was no response from the other side.

And then…

Rania stared at Aiden.

Continuously.

Until Dunadan, who introduced her, began to feel awkward.

Finally—

-System Message-

[You are interacting with Rania Ashan, a key character in the story. Depending on the influence you exert on the target, the scenario may shift slightly!]

▶ Your bond with the target increases to Level 1!

▶ The skill ‘Weaver of Fate’ is now linked with her!

‘Yes.’

Aiden thought it was only natural that someone like her would take an interest in him as soon as they met.

Considering Rania’s traits, it was to be expected.

…Especially since he was now carrying the protagonist’s burden.

The ‘Savior’s Oath’ he had recently taken on was something that would naturally pique the interest of a priestess of Urgan.

“You know, you’re kind of interesting.”

As she said this, Rania’s uncovered eye split.

For a brief moment, dozens, hundreds, and thousands of colors flashed in her eye. Spiraling like a kaleidoscope, those colors swirled violently, as if they were peering into Aiden’s ‘inner self.’

“Can I be honest with you?”

“Excuse me?”

“I’ll just be blunt.”

As Aiden stayed silent in response to her free-spirited manner, Rania lit her cigarette and continued speaking.

Honestly, Aiden wasn’t too concerned about what she might say. After all, he already had a rough idea of her reaction.

“Something really terrible is stuck to you.”

It was somewhat unexpected to hear such words out of the blue, though.

Rania tapped her finger against her still-colorful eye.

“The source of the ability you use… even with my divine eye, I can’t see it. When something is hidden from a divine power borrowed from the gods, there are only two possibilities.”

“…Excuse me?”

“The first is someone like me, a person who can directly communicate with a god. Naturally, such a person would possess a similar power, making it undetectable due to cancellation. If that’s the case, you’re in a better situation.”

As Aiden blinked in confusion, Rania took a deep drag from her cigarette and continued.

“You don’t have a god you serve, right?”

……

“You’re not a priest, after all.”

“That is… correct.”

“Then it’s the second case.”

Rania smiled slightly and patted Aiden’s shoulder.

It seemed almost like she was encouraging him.

“Good luck.”

“Wait, what are you talking about all of a sudden…?”

“It’s not widely known, but it exists. There’s something out there that could be more dangerous than even the ‘gods’ who grant abilities.”

Suddenly.

Those words fell from her lips.

“You’ve been marked as ‘theirs.’ The power you’re using right now comes from them.”

“…Excuse me?”

“Because of the burden you’ve taken upon yourself, you won’t be able to escape from them anymore. Poor thing.”

Rania lightly brushed Aiden’s cheek with her hand.

As if pitying him.

As if expressing sympathy.

What on earth was this woman talking about?

That thought naturally came to Aiden’s mind.

But there was one thing he could sense.

It didn’t seem like she was simply talking about the use of supernatural abilities.

Rather, something more fundamental.

It feels like she’s talking about the origin of Aiden’s peculiarity—the ability to freely copy other people’s skills and use multiple abilities without restriction or limitation.

As if she’s suggesting that these effects are the result of some influence from something other than a god.

“So, hang in there.”

Rania smiled broadly as she repeated those words again.

“You’re going to have quite a rough time from now on.”

“If you’re still alive, let’s meet again later. I’ll help you out with something then.”

As Aiden stood there dumbfounded, listening to her words, Rania waved her hand and casually walked off in the opposite direction.

It was as if she had said everything she needed to.

“…My daughter is a bit unusual, isn’t she?”

Dunadan, who had been quietly watching from the side, spoke up with a bitter smile.

“People who communicate with deities often exhibit unusual behavior. Their entire perspective of the world becomes different from ours.”

“That seems to be the case.”

As Aiden muttered absentmindedly, Dunadan chuckled and nodded gently.

‘Well, I got the skill, so that’s something.’

Though the conversation had been somewhat cryptic, at least he had earned her favor and managed to copy one of her skills.

‘Since she’s a priestess of Urgan…’

She likely possesses a skill that will be immediately useful.

If things hadn’t gone well, he would have had to work tirelessly to raise her favorability, but it went smoothly, so he should consider himself fortunate.

“But, why are you wandering around alone? Where’s your party?”

“I sent my aide outside for a while.”

“Why?”

“If I leave her be, she might cause trouble.”

A lot of people had been trying to strike up conversations, and not all of them were good-natured. Given Katia’s personality, it wouldn’t be surprising if she knocked someone’s jaw out of place in a fit of anger.

To avoid such a major incident, it was better to keep her apart for a while.

“I had my reasons.”

“Well, I’m sure you did. So, what about Lady Noel?”

He glanced around and noticed she was with someone.

“Ah, it looks like she’s with the prince. You don’t need to feel guilty about leaving her alone.”

“That sounds a little off.”

“The prince is the Empire’s treasure, isn’t he? Having a brief conversation with him won’t do any harm, even to the Lionheart.”

“True.”

Aiden let out a small laugh and nodded in agreement.

Thinking about the prince’s in-game character, he certainly was someone worthy of respect.

You could almost say he was the embodiment of the phrase ‘saintly.’

Even during the main scenario’s first act, ‘Imperial Rupture’, he was the kind of person who would willingly sacrifice his life for the people without hesitation.

Of course, that’s one thing.

But the fact that he was present now meant this was a golden opportunity.

After all, the ‘main target’ of this banquet was none other than him.

It was the perfect chance to extract a skill from him.

“Still, I should go and interrupt. She is my wife, after all.”

“Hmm. Go and do your best.”

With a few lighthearted remarks exchanged between him and Dunadan, Aiden subtly rose from his seat.

And then—

Something strange started to surface when Noel’s expression became fully visible.

“Huh?”

Noel’s demeanor seemed off.

Her tightly clenched hands were so strained that the blood wasn’t circulating, her face had turned pale, and her shoulders were tense and trembling slightly.

It was clear what this indicated.

This woman was clearly afraid of the prince, someone who was supposed to be a ‘good person.’

While Aiden was realizing this, the prince, who hadn’t yet noticed his presence, spoke again, and the words pierced Aiden’s ears.

“Or is this too much to ask of the “Butcher?””

The strangeness escalated from there.

The tone was still polite, the demeanor respectful, but Aiden could clearly read it.

This man was undeniably revealing ‘malice’ toward Noel, with a dark, sticky, muddy feeling akin to a bog.

In that moment, Aiden froze in place.

Noticing his presence, the prince turned to look at him.

Instantly, as if his ‘personality’ had changed, a smile spread across his face.

The malice he had just directed at Noel vanished without a trace.

This was the prince Aiden knew.

A good man, morally perfect.

“Ah, Lady Noel’s husband.”

In a warm voice, the prince spoke.

“I’m glad you came. I’ve been meaning to speak with you.”

Clearly, something was amiss.

Strangely, the prince had expressed his wish for a one-on-one conversation with Aiden.

There was a terrace outside the banquet hall, specifically arranged for private conversations, and the prince suggested they talk there.

Outside the noisy banquet hall, sitting in that place felt like being isolated from the world.

Even in such a setting, the man across from him seemed as if he were in a world of his own.

The prince, who sat quietly with his eyes closed across from Aiden, exuded an overwhelming presence just by being still.

‘So, this is what it feels like.’

It was probably similar to how others saw Aiden when his [Royal Lineage] skill was activated.

Of course, aside from that…

Aiden had already experienced several instances where the knowledge from the original story didn’t apply as expected.

The biggest difference was the absence of the protagonist.

Nothing could compare to that.

But if he had to point out the second most significant change, Aiden would choose the man sitting in front of him without hesitation.

‘…Was he always like this?’

He stared at the man in silence.

The atmosphere was the same as Aiden remembered.

Kindness, pure innocence, warmth, gentleness.

However, even if he didn’t want to, he couldn’t help but feel that those traits had become subtly distorted.

Filling the gaps between those qualities was a chilling level of ‘rationality.’

No longer the saintly ruler from the original story, he now felt more like a cold-blooded monarch who would do anything for the sake of the people.

“Aiden Kellermain, right?”

As Aiden pondered this, the prince’s gentle voice broke the silence.

“…Yes.”

Aiden answered after a brief pause.

It could be an over-interpretation, but—

The prince was the only person so far who hadn’t addressed Aiden with the honorific “Sir,” as if he already knew that Aiden wasn’t a knight.

“You’re certainly an interesting one.”

The prince continued.

“Most people can’t even meet the gaze of a member of the imperial family properly. Except for the Emperor, who deliberately suppresses his lineage, it’s quite rare to find someone who isn’t affected.”

“Especially someone as ‘ordinary’ as you. As the rumors say, you’re quite an amusing person.”

It seemed what Aiden had felt earlier wasn’t an over-interpretation.

This man clearly knew a lot about Aiden.

“May I ask what it is that you want?”

Aiden had agreed to a private conversation on the terrace, but the flow of the discussion was unsettling, like something was pressing down on his chest.

“What I want… yes, there is something.”

“I’m listening, Your Highness.”

The prince, without blinking, calmly spoke.

“Break off your engagement with Lionheart.”

Those words were delivered as if they were nothing.

“In exchange, I will grant you whatever it is you desire, Aiden.”

“Hiro, what do you want to do when you finish your military service?”

“Me?”

“Yes, what will you do? Will you get a job right away?”

“No, I’m going to farm.”

“Farm?”

“Yes. My dream has always been to return to the countryside and farm. So once I save up enough money, I’ll head back and start farming.”

Hiro’s answer never changed when asked about his dream.

He always wanted to farm.

Watching his grandparents work on their farm in the countryside looked enjoyable.

Helping them dig up sweet potatoes, harvest potatoes, and pick strawberries as a child left him with a deep sense of fulfillment.

Hiro turned his dream into action.

Though he couldn’t do it immediately, he worked hard until he was 30 to save up the minimum capital needed.

On his 31st birthday, he quit his job and moved back to the countryside.

“Luckily, my grandfather’s house was still intact, so I saved on housing costs.”

After his grandfather passed away, his parents hadn’t sold the house, which allowed Hiro to save significantly on expenses and made his move possible.

At first, he was thrilled.

“Finally, my dream is coming true!”

He had returned to the countryside!

Hiro’s ultimate dream was to have a large farm of his own.

Now that he was back in the countryside, he thought that dream was within reach.

However, reality wasn’t as easy as Hiro had imagined.

“Who are you? This is the Kang family’s house.”

“You’re the grandson of Mr. Kang?”

“You came back to farm? Young people are always welcome.”

“We’ve been short on helping hands, so this is perfect.”

Initially, people welcomed Hiro warmly.

Young labor was scarce in the countryside, so there was no reason to turn him away.

Feeling the warm welcome, Hiro believed his move was a success.

But it took less than two months for people to reveal their true colors.

“Hiro, can you help us out?”

At first, he helped out willingly.

But, as the saying goes, “Kindness, if continued, becomes expected.”

People started treating Hiro like a slave, as if it were only natural.

Even worse—

“Hiro, now that you’ve settled here, shouldn’t you contribute to the village?”

“We’re pooling money to buy a communal truck for the village; would you like to chip in?”

“It’s all for the village. A young man like you should contribute more.”

The village head began pressuring him to pay a development fee for the village.

Patronizing remarks and territorial behavior soon followed.

Because of this, Hiro’s first attempt at farming failed miserably.

He had no choice but to return to Seoul.

“If I’d stayed any longer, I might’ve died from the stress.”

“But I can’t give up.”

Hiro had no intention of abandoning his dream of farming.

However, having been burned once, he was hesitant to take action.

Then, it happened.

[Great Overlord! You can become anything you want!]

[Exciting adventures! Become the Hero you read about in comics, novels, and fairy tales!]

[An expansive storyline, ultra-realistic graphics, and living, breathing NPCs!]

A commercial for a game appeared on TV.

Great Overlord.

Though a year had passed since its release, it remained at the top of the popularity charts.

“I think… this game is a complete remake of a game I played ten years ago, rebranded as Great Overlord.”

Ten years ago, Hiro had enjoyed a game called *Illusion*.

He played it briefly before his military service, but it had shut down while he was enlisted.

Great Overlord was a newly released remake of that game.

“Game… game…”

[Great Overlord is a player-driven game. You can craft divine weapons or become the lord of a territory!]

“You can do anything.”

Those words resonated deeply with Hiro.

“Do I really need to farm in reality?”

It was worth considering a broader perspective.

There was no rule that said farming had to be done in real life.

“Can’t I do it in the game? I should be able to farm there, right?”

Hiro quickly accessed the Great Overlord website on his phone and checked the available professions.

[Farmer]

It existed.

Great Overlord offered such a remarkable level of freedom that it was said to be faster to count the jobs it didn’t have than to list the ones it did.

Of course, there was a farmer class.

“Well then…”

Out of curiosity, Hiro checked the price of a game access capsule.

The cheapest one cost 40 million won.

He had the money.

If he combined the money he’d saved so far with the money from selling his grandfather’s house (with his parents’ permission), he’d have about 100 million won.

“Still, 40 million won is… too much.”

“Ugh… no, it’s too expensive. How could I… my parents would definitely say something if they found out…”

His rational mind was telling him not to do it.

But—

“Gah!”

Hiro’s eyes widened in shock.

Despite his rational thoughts, his finger had already clicked the purchase button.

His finger had betrayed him.

“Well, I guess there’s no turning back now.”

Though his first attempt at farming had failed in reality, he was determined to succeed in Great Overlord.

Hiro resolved to gather information as he grabbed his phone.

***

The access device was a large capsule big enough to accommodate one person.

Installation was simple.

The day after he ordered it, a technician arrived, set it up in ten minutes, and left.

“Amazing.”

It really was impressive.

“How did they even get something this big in here?”

The capsule was large enough for a person to lie down inside.

It wasn’t small enough to fit through the door of Hiro’s room, but the technician tinkered with it for a bit and set it up anyway.

When Hiro looked at him in wonder, the technician, clearly accustomed to this, smiled and said:

“After a few thousand installations, this becomes easy.”

Was this the work of a professional?

Hiro found it quite impressive.

Beep.

When Hiro pressed the side of the capsule, the lid opened, revealing the interior.

It had a seat similar to a massage chair.

Without hesitation, Hiro climbed inside and sat down.

Beep.

The lid closed automatically.

A helmet descended and was placed on Hiro’s head.

As the capsule’s operating sounds filled the air, a voice pierced his ears.

[Please select a game to launch.]

“Great Overlord.”

[Launching Great Overlord.]

[No account detected. Would you like to create one?]

“Yes.”

[Creating account…]

Account creation was simple, requiring only verification through a national ID number, email, and phone number.

[Account creation complete.]

[Launching Great Overlord.]

With a loud *whoosh*, the surrounding scenery changed, and Hiro found himself in a white space.

In front of him stood a single mirror in an otherwise empty room.

“What is this…”

“Hello?”

A voice called out.

Turning his head, Hiro saw a small fairy flapping its wings, smiling at him.

‘Is this the guide fairy?’

Guide fairies helped new users with avatar creation and village recommendations upon their first login.

It looked similar to fairies from old fairy tales.

“Welcome, prospective Overlord! I am…”

“Skip.”

“What?”

“Skip. I don’t need the explanation.”

“But… sniff… okay… then, avatar settings…”

“Keep it as it is.”

“Name…”

“Hiro.”

“Well then, your vi…”

“Plants Village.”

Having gathered information beforehand, Hiro quickly skipped through the dialogue and even selected a village.

The fairy seemed to tear up a bit each time.

“…sniff… Alright. As you wish, prospective Overlord…”

“Skip.”

“I’ll send you there.”

Wooong.

Light enveloped Hiro’s body.

[Transporting to beginner village, Plants Village.]

‘Huh?’

Just before he vanished, Hiro saw the fairy muttering something.

Judging by its mouth movements, it seemed to be saying:

“Annoying herald…”

Simultaneously, Hiro’s body was fully engulfed in light, and when he opened his eyes again—

“Is this the Beginner’s Training Ground?”

He had completely entered the game.

“Wow…”

Hiro was amazed.

He now understood why so many people were obsessed with Great Overlord.

The realism was so convincing that he could have believed it was the real world.

The sensation of the wind brushing against his skin and the lively sounds filling his ears were incredibly authentic.

Who could call this just a game?

Hiro knelt down and touched the soil.

“The texture feels good. I think I can do it here.”

Return to farming.

It seemed possible.

It wouldn’t have been feasible in other games, but with Great Overlord’s high degree of freedom, it was achievable.

“Hey, are you a newcomer?”

“Hm?”

“I’m asking if you’re a newcomer.”

“Oh, yes, that’s right.”

Turning his head, Hiro saw a soldier with a rather stern expression standing nearby.

It was Hans, the Beginner Training Instructor.

“Welcome to Plants Village.”

Plants Village.

It was not known as a particularly good place for beginners to start.

Unlike other beginner villages, its surroundings weren’t very friendly.

[I’m a beginner! Any recommendations for a village?]

ᄂ Rendor Village. It’s beginner-friendly, with nearby villages and diverse monsters.

ᄂ Yep, start at Rendor Village. Just avoid Plants Village!

ᄂ ?? Why?

ᄂ Plants Village has lots of land but few monsters nearby, making it hard to reach the second village.

ᄂ I chose it and almost died trying to get to the second village. I nearly quit halfway.

The reviews about Plants Village weren’t great.

But Hiro chose it anyway.

The reason was simple:

“Lots of land? Then it’s perfect for farming.”

His goal wasn’t hunting or anything of the sort but to create his own farm.

He preferred more land over more monsters.

“So, why are you touching the dirt? Dirt isn’t for eating.”

“I’m not eating it.”

“Either way, it’s been a while since a herald showed up in Plants Village.”

[Beginner Training Instructor Hans’ affection has increased.]

“Alright! Let’s start the training!”

Ding!

[A beginner quest, ‘Beginner Training,’ has been generated.]

[Beginner Training] Rank: F

Description: It’s time to choose a weapon for the prospective Overlord.

Select your preferred weapon and defeat a ‘Beginner Goblin.’

Success Condition: Win against the Beginner Goblin.

Reward: Equipment, 100 gold, skill.

Failure Penalty: Activation of the follow-up quest, ‘Beginner Training 2.’

“Now! Fight this goblin and win.”

A small goblin appeared in front of Hiro.

[Beginner Goblin LV. 1]

The Level 1 goblin was unarmed.

It was exactly as Hiro had read online.

The game taught basic combat techniques to help new players adapt easily.

Kieek!

“You can choose any weapon. Pick one from over there.”

The direction Hans pointed to had a variety of equipment.

Swords, spears, shields, bows—there was truly a wide selection.

Among them, something familiar caught Hiro’s eye.

“This is…”

[You have selected a Beginner’s Shovel.]

“…Why did you pick that shovel?”

“Uh, I’m used to it?”

When playing *Illusion*, Hiro had chosen the shovel as his weapon.

Maybe that’s why it felt right?

The grip wasn’t bad at all.

“Are you really planning to use… that?”

“Yes, it’s fine, right?”

“Well… yes, it’s fine. You have quite a unique taste as a herald.”

“Haha.”

A “herald.”

It’s the term used for players in *Great Overlord*.

It symbolizes noble beings who can only become Overlords after receiving a divine revelation.

Whirr!

Whirr!

Hiro swung the shovel a few times.

“Have you used a shovel often?”

“Yeah, quite a lot.”

“But…”

Is that how you use a shovel?

A shovel is usually meant for digging, but Hiro’s stance was clearly one for striking.

It was a swing that didn’t match the tool’s typical purpose.

‘He’s truly a peculiar herald.’

“Alright then, go for it.”

Ding!

[Hans’ affection has increased.]

[Use the shovel to defeat the Beginner Goblin.]

[Upon victory, you can receive a special gift from Hans.]

“Alright, let’s do this.”

Round 154

Prev | TOC | Next

The quiet meal came to an end. Despite being the perfect opportunity to speak, everyone focused solely on eating after the food was served, without uttering a single word. Only the soft clattering of dishes and the sound of eating quietly resonated throughout.

“Whew.”

Director Choi exhaled softly after clearing his plate. His face displayed a faint smile, as if he was deeply satisfied.

“Ahem.”

Likewise, Johann, who had emptied his bowl, coughed awkwardly and spoke up.

“I was so focused on eating that I didn’t pay attention to my surroundings.”

“Same here. I’ve never had food like this before in my life.”

Choi Sung-hyuk nodded with a bright face. Ara, who had been watching them with delight, exclaimed,

“Sharing delicious food is a good thing!”

Ara’s words dispelled the awkward atmosphere, and everyone responded with laughter.

“That’s right, delicious food should be shared.”

“Once again, thank you to Guild Leader Han Seok-jun and Mr. Kyu-seong for treating us to such a delicious meal. I think I will never forget this experience for the rest of my life.”

After the meal was cleared, they continued to chat lightly over tea.

“Since I’ve received such a meal, I should offer something in return.”

“It’s not like we expected anything in return for the meal.”

“This isn’t just any meal. With a meal of this caliber, I feel uncomfortable not reciprocating. And actually, it’s nothing so grand…”

As Johann began to speak, Director Choi nodded, as if he guessed what Johann intended to offer.

“It’s nothing special, just a bit of trivial information.”

“Information…”

“My hometown is Austria. And Austria is part of the European Awakening Alliance.”

The European Awakening Alliance.

Though the power of individual countries did not match the awakened superpowers like the United States or China, as an alliance, they were an extraordinary organization showing more power than any single nation. Their influence and authority were fearsome, and Johann’s family, the Rothschild family, also had one foot in it. It was a well-known fact that the other foot was in America.

“If it’s the European Awakening Alliance…is it information about the Seven Deadly Sins?”

Han Seok-jun responded nonchalantly, but Director Choi and Choi Sung-hyuk looked at him with surprised eyes.

“As expected, Guild Leader Han Seok-jun. You guessed right as soon as I started talking.”

“I heard recently that the movements of the European Alliance have become more cautious.”

“Did you infer the Seven Deadly Sins just from that? Haha, as expected, you’re amazing. Indeed, our country’s first guild leader.”

Johann lowered his head slightly as a sign of respect and then continued speaking.

“My hometown, Austria, actually doesn’t have many awakened individuals. And there aren’t that many outstanding awakened ones compared to other countries.”

“Hmm.”

“The reason Austria could be part of the European Alliance was because of the existence of the Seven Deadly Sins. Among them, the Dungeon of Wrath is located there.”

“Did you gather information from Austria?”

“That’s correct.”

Johann nodded in agreement, and Han Seok-jun listened with a serious expression. Meanwhile, Kyu-seong and Ara listened in bewilderment at the sudden story about Wrath.

“The European Alliance is soon going to attack the Dungeon of Wrath. It probably won’t be a single attempt but a series of assaults.”

“That implies they’ll use escape stones.”

“That’s right. They’re making a massive investment.”

Escape stones.

Items that help make an emergency exit from a dungeon. While not extremely rare, they were as vital as a lifeline for awakened individuals, making them very expensive.

Because they were disposable and only one person could escape per stone, the cost to supply them for everyone would be enormous. The plan to use dozens, or even hundreds, of such items left Kyu-seong in disbelief.

‘Each one must cost billions…’

Nearly a trillion won was being invested as a foundation for attacking the Dungeon of Wrath. Moreover, the escape stones were just part of the preparation, and the total cost of all processes involved in the attack would amount to an astronomical figure.

“If you prepare in advance, you can make a huge profit.”

“That wasn’t the intention behind sharing this information, but I suppose the entire market, including the European economy and the awakening industry, will be in turmoil.”

The risk level and possibility of conquering the Seven Deadly Sins were already somewhat known through the Dungeon of Avarice. The recent dungeon break in China left a vast amount of information, enabling the European Alliance to lay the groundwork for attempting the dungeon assault.

“Ras is cute but strong.”

Ara, nestled in Kyu-seong’s arms, suddenly muttered softly. However, no one paid attention except for Kyu-seong.

Their reactions were due to not knowing the boss that resided in the Dungeon of Wrath yet.

“Thank you for the valuable information. I haven’t done much, but thanks to Kyu-seong, I’ve gained precious information.”

“Don’t mention it.”

The brief but important conversation ended, and they soon left the place. On their way back to the Terror Guild, Johann and the Choi brothers maintained silence, each lost in their thoughts.

“Oh, Guild Leader, there is something I need to report.”

At that moment, Director Choi suddenly spoke.

As Johann nodded, Director Choi began to elaborate on the remarkable effects he had observed in the carrot soup.

“…An increase in magic rank?”

“It only boosts the magic rank of those at Level 1 or below, meaning the lowest-ranked awakeners, but even this is an incredible effect. It’s an unprecedented item effect.”

“The increase in earth affinity is also noteworthy, but this is truly a revolutionary ability.”

A forced increase in the magic rank of an awakener.

Of course, sometimes while completing quests, a magic rank increase could occur. However, quests involved a lot of luck.

Some people might clear 100 quests without receiving a magic rank increase, while others might achieve it within 10 quests.

However, Kyu-seong’s recent dish provided a guaranteed one-rank increase without question, and it was a permanent effect, not a temporary buff.

Already, the performance of the Strawberry Potion and Director Choi’s experience confirmed that Kyu-seong’s items were showing extraordinary characteristics the more they were explored.

‘Though he doesn’t seem to think much of it.’

It was understandable.

Since Kyu-seong made the items himself, he likely didn’t see the true value of them. Even if that wasn’t the case, Kyu-seong’s personality seemed naturally relaxed.

“The condition of being for those at Level 1 or below means it’s not something that will cause a huge stir.”

“That’s right. Moreover, Mr. Kyu-seong mentioned it was a special item that couldn’t be obtained at will, so it doesn’t seem likely it could be mass-produced.”

At that point, Choi Sung-hyuk, who had been listening quietly, spoke up.

“The golden carrot soup was certainly amazing. However, I thought the true value of Mr. Kyu-seong lay elsewhere.”

“True value? I’m curious about what you think, Sung-hyuk.”

When Johann asked, Director Choi also looked at his younger brother with a curious expression. Under their gaze, Choi Sung-hyuk seemed to organize his thoughts for a moment before speaking.

“As everyone must have felt, the value and power of Mr. Kyu-seong’s items are immense.”

“That’s right.”

“Imagine if I were the owner of those items.”

“Um…?”

“I wouldn’t be able to casually do what Mr. Kyu-seong does. The reason Mr. Kyu-seong is truly formidable is that he does these things genuinely, without a second thought.”

It was true.

Johann and Director Choi, who had been busy thinking only about the value, effects, and taste of the items, could finally reflect on themselves due to Choi Sung-hyuk’s words.

Items with literally tremendous value.

And they were disposable items that disappeared once consumed. To willingly offer such things to guests who weren’t even guild members, just temporary visitors, was not something anyone could do.

“Mr. Kyu-seong is not a fool. He probably knows best about his own position, the value of his items, and their impact. Moreover, he is a member of the world-renowned Ara Hongryeon Guild, and Guild Leader Han Seok-jun personally takes care of him. It’s an environment where ignorance is impossible.”

“Huh.”

“Yes, Sung-hyuk, you are absolutely right.”

Johann, who had thought that Kyu-seong simply had a laid-back personality, also began to reflect. Could such actions be taken with mere composure?

Someone would have paid billions to purchase the carrot soup they had just eaten. Could someone with mere composure just casually hand it over?

‘I was thinking too self-centeredly!’

Was it complacency?

Thinking about it, it seemed that he had become a bit lax since becoming the leader of the top guild in Korea. No, he was undoubtedly lax.

As Sung-hyuk said, Kyu-seong’s value lay not only in his items but also in his character.

Even if someone else had awakened to the same abilities as Kyu-seong, would they have been able to grow as much as he did?

“Mr. Kyu-seong’s demeanor might seem ordinary at first glance, but I believe everyone knows that this ordinariness is more precious than it seems.”

“The word ‘ordinary’ itself has become truly rare these days. In today’s world, everyone wants to be ordinary.”

Johann nodded in agreement with a big nod.

And Director Choi gave his brother a curious look.

“That’s right. It’s a world where even wanting to be ordinary makes it hard to be ordinary. In such a world, Mr. Kyu-seong’s value is even more precious.”

“Director Choi, I think we really need to give it our all.”

Even at Johann’s sudden words, Director Choi nodded as if he understood.

Giving it their all.

It was undoubtedly referring to recruiting Kyu-seong.

“In fact, I had doubts about whether we should go so far as to confront China’s Skyscraper Guild to bring Mr. Kyu-seong over, but now it’s clear.”

“I agree. Guild Leader. Even if we incur significant losses initially, we must bring Mr. Kyu-seong in if we aim for global ambitions.”

They already knew that the Skyscraper Guild was eyeing Kyu-seong. Thus, the original goal was to pretend to compete moderately and give up on Kyu-seong under suitable conditions.

However, this meeting once again disrupted their plans. Somehow, the more they became involved with Kyu-seong, the more their plans and goals kept changing.

‘This, too, is the power of Lee Kyu-seong.’

Johann decided to acknowledge it coolly without letting pride get in the way. As Sung-hyuk said, he was a seemingly ordinary young man, but he had the power to change not just himself but the entire awakening industry.

“Sung-hyuk, just keep doing what you usually do. Then Director Choi and I will find a way to get Mr. Kyu-seong to join us at the same table.”

“I trust you, Guild Leader.”

***

-Growl?

Recently, Gomgom, who often sleeps on top of hay, drowsily raised its body. Swaying sleepily, Gomgom soon identified the one who disturbed its nap.

-Growl,

A peculiar object that suddenly started emitting a musty smell. It was supposedly edible, but Gomgom wasn’t quite sure what it was.

It was a square, ochre-colored object neatly placed on the hay. It had white dust-like patches stuck on it, which Gomgom couldn’t understand.

This was supposed to be food!

It was even more striking compared to the shocking carrot soup recently consumed.

-Growl!

Could it possibly be spoiled?

Imagining the sadness of Kyu-seong and Ara, Gomgom became even more saddened and let out a moan.

The smell seemed to be getting stronger, so Gomgom resolved to report it as soon as Kyu-seong returned.

-Heheng.

Just then, Gomgom saw one of the little Kkumuris entering the warehouse. With a bright idea, Gomgom energetically got up and waddled over to the Kkumuri.

-Growl!

-Heheng?

Gomgom made all sorts of gestures and movements, trying to explain something enthusiastically.

The little Kkumuri, who had been staring blankly at Gomgom, then went outside and soon returned with a slime.

-Squish?

-Heheng.

-Growl!

The small creatures gathered together in one place and began plotting something.

Round 153

Prev | TOC | Next

A delicious smell, hard to resist, tickled the tip of the nose. Johann, who had already lifted the spoon and was watching Ara put the soup in her mouth, glanced to the side. Johann was a non-awakened person, so he couldn’t see the item’s mark, but he was more curious about the soup’s effect than its taste.

And everyone except Kyu-seong and Ara seemed to be watching something intently, as if they had all made a promise to eat well but didn’t actually eat.

‘What kind of effect does it have…?’

The process seemed to take longer than expected. Then Johann noticed that sweat had formed on Director Choi’s forehead.

Sweat? In this cool weather and after just sitting around, why would a Level 7 awakened person sweat?

“Why aren’t you all eating?” Ara, who was eating well, asked, tilting her head in confusion.

Only then did Han Seok-jun and the Choi brothers nod as if they had come to their senses.

“Well, we should eat.”

“Um…”

Awkward responses followed. The more this happened, the more Johann’s curiosity and questions grew, but he had to maintain his dignity and couldn’t ask openly in this setting.

He decided to ask when he returned to the guild later and took the first bite himself. As he lifted the spoon, the aroma intensified. The sudden, dizzying scent made Johann realize he was unconsciously tense, and he swallowed dryly.

‘Yesterday, I had carrot soup too, made by our guild’s head chef, whom we recruited with an incredible contract and salary.’

There was no way it could be more delicious than the soup made by such a head chef.

Although Kyu-seong said it was special, that seemed more related to the item’s effect than the taste. Despite not particularly boasting about the item’s effect,

Ultimately, it was a matter of tasting it to find out. The carrot soup’s smell and appearance suggested it couldn’t possibly taste bad, so it was worth having expectations.

So cautiously, he took a bite…

One bite…

“Hmm?”

What is this?

As he looked around, he suddenly saw a hill with a sunset. On the hill, cute carrots waved their hands as if urging him to come quickly.

For a moment, he was dazed by the unbelievable sight, but his feet naturally moved forward. When he reached the hill, the carrots held his hands and pointed somewhere.

A sun shaped like a golden carrot shining brightly.

While admiring the sunset created by the brilliant golden light that illuminated the world with a fragrant…!!!

He spent time with the carrots, losing track of time, and watched the sunset. As the golden glow gradually faded, Johann said goodbye to the carrots, regretting the fading light.

Goodbye…?

“Huh?!”

‘What just happened to me?’

Johann, coming to his senses, looked around. He felt as if he had been with the carrots just a moment ago.

But this was Ara Hongryeon’s reception room.

Johann, struggling to believe that he had seen an illusion, calmed himself and looked at the bowl where the carrot soup had been. It was completely empty.

“You eat so heartily!”

“Huh?”

Ara, looking at Johann, smiled contentedly and said. Johann pointed at himself with his finger.

“Did I eat it all?”

“You even licked the bowl. Was it delicious?”

“…..”

He only remembered taking a single spoonful, but was that really the case?

However, he soon had to admit it.

“Slurp.”

Next to him, Director Choi, who seemed like he would never engage in such a frivolous action, was licking the bowl absentmindedly.

What about the others?

“Slurp.”

“Lick, lick.”

It was the same for everyone else. The only saving grace was that he regained his composure first and didn’t show such an embarrassing scene. Of course, it seemed that Kyu-seong and Ara across from him had seen it.

Johann stared intently at the empty bowl for a moment, savoring the peculiar lingering taste in his mouth. The rich aroma of the broth lingered, as if to affirm that what he ate wasn’t a lie.

Drip, drip.

“Guild Master Johann? Are you okay?”

At Kyu-seong’s worried question, Johann suddenly realized that the sound he heard was coming from him.

“Ah!”

Tears.

Tears so thick that they made a dripping sound were streaming down his cheeks.

“It’s an amazing experience. I feel fine, but my body seems beyond my control.”

“Oh, well, that’s a relief?”

While Kyu-seong pondered whether this should indeed be considered a relief, others slowly began regaining their senses.

“Gasp! What’s going on? Where am I?”

“…Just a moment ago, I was dancing with the carrots…”

The Choi brothers muttered, and Han Seok-jun slowly removed his glasses and gently closed his eyes.

Drip.

A tear, like a dewdrop, fell gently.

“It was an inspiring bowl.”

Simple words, but they left a more profound impression than any other review.

“Why are you crying after eating something delicious?”

When Ara asked worriedly, Han Seok-jun smiled and calmly replied.

“It was so delicious that I was moved. I express my gratitude to Kyu-seong and Ara for serving such delicious food.”

“Oh, was it that good? I also enjoyed it!”

Ara jumped up at Han Seok-jun’s high praise and started dancing with joy. Seeing this, Choi Sung-hyuk murmured absentmindedly.

“Carrot dance… I danced that dance too…”

Kyu-seong, witnessing them still not fully composed, realized anew the power of his food. It was because he could never have imagined that the person he admired the most, whom he considered the most perfect awakened, would appear so dazed.

‘I need to rethink this.’

Johann also reconsidered as he watched the scene.

Initially, he thought of it as a highly useful mass-produced buff item for dungeon conquests and, secondly, as a morale-boosting food for guild members. However, this incident made it even clearer.

Irreplaceable.

Kyu-seong’s crops were best described by this word.

‘Buff? Delicious food? No, this cannot be dismissed with such simple words.’

No buff or food could replace Kyu-seong’s crops. Truly, these were unique items only producible by Kyu-seong.

Knock, knock.

While deep in thought about Kyu-seong, there was a knock on the reception room door.

“Guild Master, the food is ready.”

“…Oh my, it wasn’t over yet.”

Now that he thought about it, he hadn’t come here just to eat carrot soup.

Anticipating the dishes made with Kyu-seong’s crops that would continue, everyone opened their eyes wide.

***

“Who do you think you are to treat people so carelessly?”

The intense emotions seemed to pierce through the screen.

People watched breathlessly.

Soon, the atmosphere gradually intensified, and as the conflict dramatically resolved, the situation concluded.

“Cut!”

“Wow! Well done, everyone!”

“You’ve all worked so hard until now!”

The last scene of the drama “Between Our Steps,” a highly anticipated fourth-quarter release from HBS, had just wrapped up filming.

“Good job, everyone! Good job!”

Seo Ye-eun, who filmed the last scene with everyone, was bowing and greeting people here and there. The director clapped in satisfaction and said to Seo Ye-eun.

“We’re really glad that you’ve suddenly gotten better, Ms. Ye-eun. I was really worried when I heard you weren’t doing well…”

“I’m sorry for causing you concern.”

“No, no. In the end, the final scene was wrapped up well. Especially this scene was truly the best.”

“Thank you, Director.”

In a cheerful atmosphere, they finished filming and headed off for an after-party. Since it was the last shoot, most people gathered unless they had a busy schedule, and as a result, the reserved restaurant was bustling.

As the actors gathered and talked among themselves, Kim Hye-na suddenly asked Seo Ye-eun.

“I was afraid it would be burdensome to ask before, but do you have a secret method for your throat healing so quickly?”

“A secret method? Ah!”

Seo Ye-eun nodded immediately. Then she took out a small container that she always carried in her pouch.

“It’s thanks to this.”

“What is that?”

Kim Kang-woo, who was next to her, also looked at the container she took out with a curious face. As people watched, Seo Ye-eun opened the lid.

As the lid opened, a familiar scent spread around.

“Garlic?”

“It smells like garlic…?”

Inside were several whole cloves of garlic, about three or four. People looked back at Seo Ye-eun with expressions of disbelief.

“This is…?”

“Hehe, it’s not ordinary garlic. It’s something specially provided by our company, and it seems to be an item.”

“An item!”

This ordinary-looking garlic?!

With such an unexpected item, everyone once again examined the garlic with curious eyes. It looked no different from regular garlic on the outside.

“Iron Blood Entertainments is an agency under the Ironblood Group. With the Ironblood Guild, that makes sense.”

“Wow, amazing, an entertainment agency linked with a guild! I’m really envious.”

As the sudden interest continued, Seo Ye-eun smiled awkwardly, and Kim Hye-na asked enviously.

“Did that garlic heal your sore throat?”

“Yes. To be precise, it prevents the body from becoming dry. Thanks to that, it’s also good for skin moisture.”

“Wow… Did Mr. Kim Tae-yang get it for you?”

“Oh! That’s right. Our director got it for me.”

As she clapped and agreed, the director and assistant director also approached to examine Seo Ye-eun’s garlic.

“Are these kinds of items sourced directly from dungeons by the Ironblood Guild?”

“No. I heard it wasn’t acquired by the Ironblood Guild but through an acquaintance of the director.”

“As expected of Mr. Kim Tae-yang, he has a wide network.”

“But I heard he briefly visited the site…”

“Pardon? He visited the site? Not Mr. Kim Tae-yang, but the owner of that item?”

“Yes. I wasn’t on set then because filming was postponed due to my vocal cord nodules, but I heard it was the guardian of a child named Ara…”

Everyone was surprised by the vague image of Lee Kyu-seong that emerged.

“Ara?!”

“Wow, so he was Ara’s guardian.”

“No wonder Iron Blood Entertainment brought them in.”

Even those who didn’t know Ara before had long become subscribers to her YouTube channel through the previous filming.

“Speaking of Ara, we’re shooting a commercial together. It’ll probably air right after the drama is broadcast.”

“Ooh.”

“I hope the drama is a hit. That way, Ye-eun’s commercial shoot will go even better!”

Seo Ye-eun was also curious. She had seen Ara on YouTube, and Lee Kyu-seong, who was Ara’s guardian and helped resolve her vocal cord nodules.

Knowing she would soon meet him for the commercial shoot, she planned to express her gratitude. She had heard that Ara loves to eat…

“Okay, okay! There’s only one month until the drama airs! Everyone, you’ve worked hard, and now let’s all pray together!”

“Hahaha! Of course! Should we do 108 bows or something?”

“Even without seeing it, I know it will do well! It was made so well!”

“I feel sorry for the editing team, who are still working, but our team is excellent. Success is guaranteed!”

While the filming team was enjoying the after-party, a significant post appeared on Ara’s daily YouTube channel.

– Our Ara will soon be on TV!

This sparked an unexpected reaction.

Aiden had only just learned that the bond in the Weaver of Fate could change forms, but more than that, what shocked him was something else entirely.

– Additional copyable skills will be unlocked!

This phrase was what stood out. Aiden had glanced at Katia’s skill list before, but after hearing this statement and looking at it again, he was left speechless.

“… Seriously?”

He muttered under his breath without realizing it, as he watched the skills pour down the list. He had only checked to see what new skills were added, but…

‘Are all classes available now?’

In the game, the main characters each grow along different paths, and the road they walk differs accordingly. Whether it’s Noel or Katia, or the staggering power they display now, it’s all just the starting point for these humans. As the main scenario progresses, their specialties shift depending on the path they choose.

Take Noel, for example. There’s a swordsmanship-focused path, a physical enhancement focus, or a hybrid with magic to specialize as a magic swordsman. But now, the skills added to the list seem to cover every possible specialization.

‘Once you pick a specialty, you shouldn’t be able to learn anything else…’

The Weaver of Fate Aiden possessed could only copy the skills the target already had. But now, just from changing the bond, the pool of skills he could copy had drastically increased. It felt like…

As if he could copy these people’s entire “future.”

“Your Highness, so…”

“I’m not going back.”

“Also, give me the lieutenant position.”

Before he could continue his thoughts, a curt voice interrupted right in front of him. Not only did Katia refuse to return to the Holy Kingdom, but her next demand left Noel clutching at his own throat. She had found out the lieutenant position, always present at public events, was vacant, and her request was relentless.

This led to a rather awkward standoff. Although calling it a standoff is a bit much, as it was mostly Noel desperately trying to persuade Katia, who just listened with one ear and let it go out the other.

“A royal of one country behaving like this in another is simply unheard of, Your Highness. It’s unacceptable, both traditionally and administratively…”

“Lieutenant.”

“I’ve been saying it all along. This isn’t just difficult for the Empire; it also puts the Pope of the Holy Kingdom in an awkward position—”

“Lieutenant.”

“Lieutenant.”

“Just endure it.”

The last comment was from Aiden, who had noticed Noel subtly reaching for her sword hilt. It was almost serious enough that Aiden thought she might actually go through with it, seeing as the woman wouldn’t die anyway.

“Compared to the brawl we had not too long ago, this isn’t so bad.”

In contrast to that previous tension, this situation seemed mild. Still, it was fortunate Noel had a good temperament, now handling the person who had once driven her mad with minimal resentment.

“To begin with, doesn’t the current situation seem a little odd?” Katia said nonchalantly, interlocking her fingers behind her head.

“You two will soon be appearing together at various official events as a couple, so how did you plan to handle all those without a lieutenant?”

“Well…”

Now that she mentioned it, Noel had promised to appoint a lieutenant before but delayed it, saying he wanted to choose someone exceptional.

“It’s strange. The way servants are managed is one of the best ways to showcase one’s status. At your rank, not having one would draw negative attention.”

“Is it really that big of a deal?”

“It’s common knowledge in high society. What, are you treating your husband, Lionheart?”

Seriously, the fact that the word “common sense” came so easily from her mouth was one thing, but Noel’s embarrassed cough in response was equally odd.

“Before official events, I can handle the minor tasks, so it’s just a matter of finding the right person,” Noel said.

“Well, whatever the circumstances, not bringing one will make it hard for you to be viewed positively.”

Katia tapped her cheek and continued, “As I said earlier, showing up alone to such events is a great way to damage both your and your husband’s reputation. You know that, right?”

Noel pursed his lips, unable to argue against that point.

“All I have to do is not bring Aiden to such events.”

“If you don’t bring your future husband to social gatherings, do you realize the rumors that’ll spread? People will go wild with speculation about your relationship.”

“I’ll handle that. Neither I nor Aiden wants him entangled in major affairs.”

“Seriously…?”

Aiden stared at Noel with an almost dumbfounded look as she stubbornly held her ground.

“I don’t want to be a burden to you.”

Looking at her now, Aiden wondered if she was too rigid for her own good. But Noel, hearing this, softened her expression, her eyes rounding as if she’d just heard something completely unexpected.

“What? But…”

“You could just go with me to those events. Isn’t that why you married me in the first place, so it wouldn’t be difficult for you in such situations?”

“That’s true, but…”

“Then you should make use of it. I need to do my part as well, don’t I?”

Even though their marriage had started almost like a kidnapping, Aiden could always feel how sincerely Noel tried to help him. Whether it was financially or for convenience, Aiden could sense that Noel always went above and beyond what their contract stipulated. Returning that effort wasn’t too difficult.

Besides, Aiden had heard that the official reason for their marriage was to avoid the complications that come with having the “husband’s position” vacant in such circumstances.

“…Ah.”

However, hearing this, Noel hesitated, her lips twitching as she seemed to think hard about what to say.

“…Thank you.”

Her reaction, as if kindness toward him was unfamiliar, left Aiden speechless for a moment. It wasn’t even kindness; it was just common sense, and yet Noel seemed uncomfortable with it, which Aiden found bewildering.

“How did you end up with this kind of personality?” Aiden thought. For someone with such capabilities and position, having such low self-esteem was almost incredible to him.

Aiden sighed deeply and continued, “If you’re not comfortable with the princess acting as your lieutenant, can’t you just assign anyone temporarily to that role for now?”

“That’s ridiculous.”

“Yeah, that’s absurd.”

Both of them immediately dismissed the idea without any hesitation.

“The lieutenant is someone who’s always close to you. No matter how much you vet them, it’s never enough. There’s a reason no one’s been appointed so far.”

“Isn’t it said that the best roles for an assassination are chef, tailor, or secretary or lieutenant?”

This was the first time Aiden saw them in agreement. It seemed clear now just how dangerous the position was.

“So, appointing just anyone as lieutenant isn’t an option,” Aiden said.

“That’s why I’m saying I’ll do it. What’s the holdup?” Katia remarked, prompting Noel to shoot her a sideways glance.

“Are you not taking this job too lightly?”

“Well, the regular royal banquet is coming up soon, right? No matter what, you’ll have to attend that, won’t you?”

“Even so, having Your Highness act as Aiden’s lieutenant is a completely different matter.”

“…No.”

Aiden interrupted Noel mid-sentence, stroking his chin as he contemplated, looking as though he was doing mental calculations.

“Actually, it might not be such a bad idea.”

“…What?”

Noel stared at Aiden, looking as if she’d been struck on the back of the head.

“What do you mean by that—”

“If the issue is that she’s a royal, we can just hide that.”

“Excuse me?”

“As long as she’s not caught, isn’t that enough? We can figure something out. She could even just cover her face.”

“Oh, now you’re making sense,” Katia said with a grin, while Noel sighed and rubbed her forehead before responding.

“…Aiden, it seems like your attitude has changed.”

“No, I’m just saying we need to leave a good impression on people.”

“…Excuse me?”

“It’s the first event we’re attending together, so we should do it right, don’t you think?”

Noel widened her eyes, staring at Aiden in disbelief. It seemed she hadn’t expected such words to come from him. Aiden, who had always avoided troublesome things, now seemed to be welcoming this challenge.

However, Aiden couldn’t ignore what Katia had just brought up. This wasn’t just any event—it was the royal banquet.

“A royal banquet…”

In the game, it had just been a checkpoint mentioned in passing, but digging into the details revealed its significant importance. Not only were members of the royal family and influential nobles present, but key figures from foreign nations also occasionally made appearances. It was an event where the central characters of the main storyline were likely to show up, which made it quite crucial.

After all…

-Only you know the truth of this world. Build bonds with key figures in the main story to gain new rewards!

This means he’ll be able to use this quite effectively. Now that there’s a real need to get involved in the main scenario, collecting useful abilities as quickly as possible has become even more important than before. And he already knew who his first targets should be.

‘The Priestess. And the Imperial Prince.’

The priestess from Urgan, who likely came from the tribal alliance, and the legitimate heir to the imperial throne. And, of course, the suitor clinging to Noel—the reason Aiden found himself in this situation. These are major figures who greatly influence the main scenario.

“…Aiden.”

Noel, clearly feeling a headache coming on, spoke up again.

“I trust in your abilities, and I appreciate your concern for me. But the aristocratic social circles are, in many ways, not unlike a battlefield. Even the smallest misstep can be used against you, so I’d recommend reconsidering this carefully.”

“What do you mean by ‘used against me’?”

“Things like etiquette, customs, and even the smallest gestures or looks can be twisted to bring you down. For someone who’s never been to such gatherings, it’s hard to have a positive experience.”

Noel, speaking as if spitting the words out, caused Aiden to tilt his head in curiosity. It wasn’t often that Noel expressed such a negative opinion so openly.

“…Forgive me for asking, but do you have any bad experiences with that?”

“I wouldn’t say I have any good memories.”

Hearing Noel’s stiff response, Aiden chuckled dryly. Of course, given Noel’s nature, it seemed likely that she had kept her distance from backroom dealings, subtle politics, and the delicate web of personal relationships.

“So, let me boost your confidence.”

“…What?”

“I’ll make sure no one can look down on you.”

It was Aiden’s turn to offer Noel some support. After all, he’d have to stay on good terms with Noel moving forward.

‘It’s not like I see her as just a skill vending machine, but this relationship is going to be a key pillar for my survival as well.’

In that sense, helping her was far from a bad investment.

When it comes to etiquette, customs, and reading the room? If this were a place where violence clashed head-on, that would be different, but in an environment where those things are considered ‘weapons,’ it’s practically Aiden’s home turf.

After all, what had been his livelihood until now?

‘And besides…’

Aiden knew of a skill that would add wings to his talent.

『Lionel XIII』

-Bond: Level 1

– You may copy one skill.

It was time to use the copying rights he’d previously received from the Emperor.

[Copying special skill: Royal Bloodline.]

***

In the endlessly tumultuous world of the social elite, rumors spread like a tangled web of threads. Especially in grand events like the imperial banquet, which attracted people from all over the empire.

Gossip spread like wildfire: A certain noble lady dumped someone, a high-ranking noble had an affair somewhere… These kinds of rumors filled the air, but today, one particular topic was heating up the banquet even more than usual.

“I hear the prince is attending the banquet tonight?”

“We’re so lucky to be able to see his face again!”

There are many types of men admired in social circles, but none as flawless in every aspect as the prince. His status, ability, appearance, and even his youth made him a rising star in the royal family with a strong foothold in power. It was no surprise he became a hot topic just by attending.

Just the mention of his name brought a lighthearted atmosphere and bright laughter among the noble ladies.

“Oh, and there’s something else interesting,” someone added.

“What is it?”

“It seems the ‘Lionheart’ is also attending with her partner tonight.”

“…Oh, really?”

In contrast to earlier, a strange tension began to circulate around the table.

“Lionheart… She’s quite the knight.”

“Indeed.”

They exchanged pleasantries, but the smirks and awkward expressions said otherwise. Lionheart was certainly impressive. At her young age, she had built her own reputation through her own strength, which was undeniably remarkable.

But…

“…So she really does have a husband. I’d heard about the marriage but thought it was just a rumor.”

“I mean, who would want to marry someone so aggressive? But I guess there’s someone out there with unique tastes.”

Among the noble ladies, who generally cared little for complex political affairs, there wasn’t much respect for Lionheart, despite her status as a national hero. Even though she had earned great military achievements in the war that had torn the continent apart, it didn’t really resonate with them.

Despite all she had accomplished, Lionheart was seen in social circles as stiff, old-fashioned, and closed-off, giving her a solid reputation as “arrogant.” From Noel’s perspective, she simply tried to remain neutral and avoid being swept into any faction. But that wasn’t something they cared to understand.

And, above all…

“Shall we see just how impressive her husband is? I mean, what could he have that made her reject the prince’s proposal so boldly?”

One of the noble ladies, without realizing it, voiced her true feelings, and immediately shut her mouth as she felt the sharp gazes from those around her. Everyone here knew that saying such things aloud was far too conspicuous, no matter how much they might agree. However, seeing that no one was actively voicing disagreement, it seemed they all shared the same sentiment.

To them, it was infuriating that she had turned down the prince’s proposal—something they could only dream of.

“Presenting Lord Noel Astria Simus of the Imperial Command!”

As the saying goes, speak of the devil, and he shall appear. The subject of their conversation made their entrance. The ladies all raised their fans to cover their mouths, casting condescending glances at the person walking through the entrance.

The first to catch their attention was Lionheart, who entered the hall with her usual emotionless expression.

“…Another uniform, again?”

“Her lack of fashion sense has been obvious for a while now, but she could at least make an effort.”

The fact that she couldn’t even bother to follow basic dress codes further cemented her arrogance in their eyes. The noble ladies shared their opinions, then turned their attention to the person beside her.

And…

The sight of her groom, arm in arm with her, instantly silenced the ladies who had been mocking Lionheart moments earlier.

They were all likely thinking the same thing.

‘Her standards are high, after all.’

Had any of them had the chance to marry such a man, they might have been similarly selective. Just by appearance alone, he was someone who could easily be regarded highly.

He wasn’t a strikingly handsome man carved out of marble, nor was he draped in luxurious items like a wealthy magnate. Such men were commonplace in these social circles.

Rather, the man standing beside Lionheart might typically be dismissed as a nobody—someone who didn’t even belong in such a place, someone to be ridiculed.

But…

He had an “aura” similar to what they had just been discussing about the prince. There was a “nobility” that only royal family members possessed, and it radiated from him. It was clear at a glance that he was no ordinary person.

“Well… his first impression is… quite decent,” someone finally muttered, breaking the silence.

“Hmm,” another cleared their throat in agreement.

Though hesitant, they all nodded in reluctant approval. However, their evaluation was far from over. A refined appearance alone didn’t guarantee a man’s status. Without proper abilities or lineage, it was all just for show.

As they pondered this, the guards in the hall moved to block their entrance.

“The person beside you… may we know their identity?” one of the guards asked.

While Lionheart’s well-known lieutenant, Stella, was her usual escort, the figure beside her wore a full suit of armor, complete with a visor that obscured their face, leaving their identity a mystery. Naturally, the guards had to intervene.

“Lieutenant,” came the short response from Lionheart’s groom.

Immediately, the armor-clad figure exuded a presence that served as undeniable “proof of identity.” A small, colorless flame flickered—an ability no one could mistake for anything else.

Those who wield divine power fall into two categories: royalty and Paladins bound by sacred oaths. Clearly, this person wasn’t royalty, which meant they had to be a Paladin.

And as soon as that realization dawned on everyone, the hall fell into a sudden, palpable silence. Not only the noble ladies at the nearby table but also others in the room who had been observing closely were taken aback.

“…Divine power…”

“A Paladin… serving as a lieutenant?”

Paladins were the most important and powerful warriors in the Holy Kingdom, typically assigned only to guard members of the royal family. For Lionheart’s groom to have one as a lieutenant meant that, at the very least, he was treated on par with royalty from the Holy Kingdom.

Such a privilege was something even the most powerful nobles rarely experienced.

The sound of someone swallowing nervously echoed clearly in the hall.

In that moment, it became obvious to everyone. The man standing there, perhaps, was the most “important” person in the room.

The grotesque beast Malian fully recognized Seolrang’s strength.

The presence she had shown in the colony until now was even more intense than that of Kalman Arents, who had been active as a Babayaga for an extended period.

However, despite this, neither Malian nor Kalman thought they would lose to Seolrang in this fight.

Both Kalman Arents and the grotesque beast Malian were also Babayagas like Seolrang, and most importantly, they had absorbed the Abyssal Essence.

Abyssal Essence

Malian didn’t know exactly how the Abyssal Essence granted power.

All he knew was that once someone of a certain rank used the Abyssal Essence, they were endowed with power in some way.

But for Malian, that knowledge was sufficient.

Even at that very moment as they fought Seolrang, both of them could feel that just by using the Abyssal Essence, they had become nearly twice as strong as they originally were.

Crash—!!!

As Malian’s fist struck the spot where Seolrang had stood, the chamber shook as if an earthquake had hit.

Crack!

With just a stomp from Kalman, the ground collapsed.

And that wasn’t all.

Roar!!!

Malian displayed her unbelievable power by tearing off the roof of the forgotten city’s castle and throwing it at Seolrang.

The overwhelming strength, clearly beyond human limits, filled the mercenaries, magicians, and beastmen fighting against the assassins with despair.

But despite this incredible display of power, the expressions on Malian and Kalman’s faces were worsening as time passed.

The reason was none other than Seolrang, who was still fighting against them.

The golden-eyed Seolrang, who had vanished in a flash of lightning, suddenly appeared in front of Malian and struck him in the waist.

After fending off Kalman Arents’s attack from behind, Seolrang landed a punch on him.

Boom!

Malian and Kalman were sent crashing into the wall of the large chamber, shattering it.

“How is this even possible…!?”

Malian scowled at Seolrang.

Seolrang’s body was indeed covered in wounds.

Her shining hair was stained with blood, and her eerie body was marked with countless injuries.

Yet despite all this, she was dominating.

Even though they had absorbed the Abyssal Essence and become twice as powerful, the two Babayagas couldn’t force her to retreat even an inch.

“You monster…!”

Malian grimaced as she transformed her grotesque right hand into the shape of a sword.

‘She’s not even emitting black magic, so she hasn’t absorbed the Abyssal Essence either…!’

Despite not consuming the Abyssal Essence, her strength was overwhelming enough to dominate two Babayagas who had.

It was clear… defeating her with brute force was impossible…!?

With his once-confident expression now gone, Malian looked gravely at Kalman.

“Click.”

As if confirming a prearranged signal, Kalman clicked his tongue, then leaped forward—toward the beastmen, not Seolrang.

The moment Seolrang realized that Kalman was rushing toward Ralga, the member of her tribe who was leading the fight against the assassins, she immediately moved.

Crack!

She blocked Kalman’s punch.

Boom!

The terrifying shockwave from just the clash of their fists made Seolrang grimace momentarily.

But then she sensed something strange.

Despite having a serious expression moments ago, Kalman now wore a clear, unmistakable smile on his lips.

At that very moment—

Stab!

“Huh?”

Seolrang felt a searing pain in her back.

She turned to look, and there stood Ralga.

“Finally…!”

With a twisted grin on his face, Ralga had stabbed Seolrang in the back with a blade.

Seolrang’s eyes filled with confusion for a moment.

“Ugh…!”

Blood flowed from her mouth.

Crash!

Seolrang was sent flying by Kalman’s kick, rolling on the ground.

She couldn’t make sense of the situation.

Her eyes were full of questions—questions, confusion, and even more questions.

Her bewildered gaze fell on Ralga.

He was smiling wickedly.

Seolrang couldn’t understand it at all.

“Why?”

A question escaped her lips.

As Seolrang tumbled across the ground from Ralga’s betrayal, despair clouded the faces of the mages, mercenaries, and beastmen, while a sneer appeared on Kalman’s lips.

Relief filled the eyes of the assassins, and Malian’s face showed a hint of triumph.

All this information entered Seolrang’s field of view, but she was solely focused on Ralga.

“Why…?” Seolrang muttered, puzzled once more.

And then, Ralga, who had been sneering all this time, stepped forward toward Seolrang.

Seolrang tried to move her body, but soon realized that she couldn’t.

“The poison from Kamonasis is on the blade, so you won’t be able to move for at least an hour. It’s best not to struggle,” Ralga said, looking down at Seolrang’s shocked expression as he approached her.

Unlike his usual composed demeanor, Ralga twisted his lips into a sneer as he crouched in front of her.

“Ah… what was it again? Did you ask why?” he mocked as he pulled off the gauntlet from Seolrang’s hand.

“I wanted this.”

“…What?”

“Didn’t you hear? I said I wanted this,” Ralga repeated, shaking the essence of the Golden Mane Tribe in front of her as if to mock her, smiling slyly.

Seolrang blinked slowly.

“You betrayed me… for that?” she asked.

She still didn’t feel anger. Ralga, wearing an expression of confusion for a brief moment, soon let out a mocking laugh.

“For this? Seolrang, do you really think the guild you created is still standing because of some noble reason? Do you think the clans stuck around for your little family act? No, no.”

Tap, tap—

“It’s because of this. The clans stayed in the guild because of the power they could gain from you,” he sneered, tapping her face with the gauntlet.

Seolrang’s expression slowly darkened as she furrowed her brow.

“Why would you think otherwise?”

Deep down, Seolrang knew that Ralga wasn’t entirely wrong.

She had always been aware that the reason she was able to gather the Golden Mane Tribe so quickly in the colony was because she possessed the essence gifted by the Great Moon.

But even so, Seolrang hadn’t believed that the clans had stuck with the guild solely for the essence this far into the journey.

Even if they had gathered for power at first, Seolrang felt that the time they had spent together over the past two years since forming the guild was genuine, and she believed that she had been faithfully rebuilding her former family.

No, she trusted in that belief.

“That can’t be…!”

Seolrang clenched her teeth, but Ralga didn’t erase his mocking grin as he stared at her.

Then, he let out a small chuckle and snapped his fingers.

Snap—

And then, as if they had been waiting for the signal, the other members of the Golden Mane Tribe started gathering behind Ralga, one by one.

Seolrang looked at them in disbelief.

The clan member she had greeted just two days ago.

The one who had spoken with her earlier on their way to this place.

No one was an exception, all stood behind Ralga, and Seolrang, noticing that they bore no wounds unlike the mercenaries, realized the truth.

“…Ha.”

For the first time, she let out a bitter laugh.

Not the warm smile she had always shown to the clans, but a cruel, cold smile.

“Now that’s the expression of someone waking up from a dream. I’m satisfied,” Ralga laughed, satisfied, as he patted Seolrang’s head in mockery.

“To be honest, every time you acted like you were something special, it disgusted me. Using power you didn’t deserve just because you got lucky… It was really hard to watch. How does it feel to wake up from that dream?”

“…Are the others… also traitors?” Seolrang answered his question with a question.

Ralga, seeing the betrayal and hatred hidden behind her bitter smile, found it amusing, twisting his lips to respond.

But before he could speak—

“That’s enough. Let’s wrap this up,” Malian interrupted, stepping forward before Ralga could open his mouth.

He transformed his arm into the shape of a sword and raised it, preparing to strike Seolrang down.

“It’ll be a pain if she moves, so let’s finish her off now.”

Just as Malian was about to execute Seolrang with his sword—

Swoosh—

A small question appeared on Seolrang’s face, which had been filled with resignation just moments ago.

And not just Seolrang.

Ralga, who had been sneering, also looked puzzled.

The mages and even Liyan, who had been in despair, wore the same expression.

Even Kalman, who had been smirking just a moment ago, now looked perplexed.

The reason for this was…

“Ah—?”

It was because a large hole had appeared in Malian’s head, who had been basking in triumph just moments before.

Thud—!

Malian’s body collapsed to the ground, lifeless.

As everyone began to question the absurd death of one of the colony’s Babayagas,

“Ah—?”

Liyan, who had been staring blankly at the scene, suddenly realized that her breath had turned into visible white vapor.

At that moment, everyone present saw it.

In the distance, from the forgotten city of the god Kahara, a man silently emerged.

Crunch—

With each step he took, frost spread, freezing the ground beneath him, and a grayish-white magic from the bracelet on his left wrist enveloped his body like a thin ice barrier.

Step, step—

The man’s stride was unwavering.

Even though there was a Babayaga and dozens of enemies before him, his expression remained utterly indifferent.

Without any emotion or reaction, he walked forward, and everyone began to tense up at his appearance.

Ralga, who had been mocking Seolrang moments ago,

Kalman, who had been smiling confidently, and all the enemies present grew nervous as they watched the man with a blank expression.

Because they had all witnessed it.

They had seen Malian, a Babayaga, have his head pierced in an instant.

“Ugh—!”

As the man slowly approached, Ralga instinctively stepped back.

And it wasn’t just him.

Every being identified as the man’s ‘enemy’ naturally retreated.

Just standing there, his presence choked them, and they felt an overwhelming sense of helplessness and fear.

Even Kalman, the strongest among them, felt it.

‘What is that!?’

His body recoiled as he stared at the man, who appeared with eyes so black and blue that he instinctively knew comprehending them would break his mind.

“Master…?”

Finally, the man, Alon, approached Seolrang, who still had a sword lodged in her back, and stared at her intently.

“Ice Crystal (氷晶).”

He spoke a phrase, one different from anything he had said before.

Round 152

Prev | TOC | Next

On the way to Ara Hongryeon by taxi.

The previous day, I stopped by my family’s house to share the golden carrot soup with them, and today, the next day, I was heading to the guild.

As I stroked Ara’s head, who was quietly watching the scenery outside the window from my arms, I recalled the carrot soup that would be at Bokkeum’s.

‘The candied sweet potatoes still had the effect.’

The candied sweet potatoes Jae-seong made with the remaining carrots retained the original item effects of the golden carrots.

Unfortunately, the increase in magic rank from the golden carrots was limited to just once, so I had to be satisfied with becoming a 2nd-level awakened.

From the beginning, the effect is important, but isn’t the taste more significant?

‘But the changes that happened to the kids are significant…’

The slimes and goblins that ate the carrot soup.

Our cute little monsters, which were only 1st-level monsters, became 2nd-level monsters. It was truly a remarkable change.

There were no drastic changes in appearance or strength, but it allowed me to glimpse a possibility.

‘What if crops with star ratings are harvested again? What if they eat crops with even higher star ratings of various kinds?’

Evolution into higher species of slime and goblin.

Such an impossible thing was becoming possible.

Until now, I thought only Ara could grow due to her gluttonous ability, but now the possibility of growth was open to other children as well.

Of course, the slimes could do liquid synthesis, but it was a slightly different kind of growth. A level 2 slime and a 2nd-level slime are distinctly different. It was the difference between the growth of an individual and the evolution of a species.

“We have arrived!”

Before I knew it, I arrived at the tall building of Ara Hongryeon. As I got out of the taxi and headed toward the building, a security staff member who recognized me greeted me with a bright smile.

“Awakener Lee Kyu-seong, you’re here.”

“Hello.”

“Hello, indeed!”

He immediately contacted someone via radio and then guided me.

“There are guests visiting the guild unexpectedly. If it’s okay with you, Awakener Lee Kyu-seong, they would like to meet you. Is that alright?”

“Guests?”

“Yes, it’s Guild Master Johann of the Terror Guild, Awakener Choi Sung-hyuk, and Director Choi Seong-pil.”

The Terror Guild!

It’s the number one guild in South Korea and a massive guild that can somewhat compare to the Skyscraper Guild I visited. It seems like I’ve been encountering extraordinary people more frequently these days.

Director Choi was familiar since he often contacted me from the time of the strawberry potion incident and checked in on me now and then.

As for Guild Master Johann, I think I briefly greeted him during the orphanage event, but I’m not sure if he’ll remember.

‘The Exterminator, Choi Sung-hyuk… South Korea’s second-ranked awakened.’

People might wonder who the number one is if the second-ranked awakened of the renowned Terror Guild is Choi Sung-hyuk, but the number one is such an eccentric character that he wanders without a guild.

Anyway, I gave the security staff, who was waiting for my answer, a positive response.

“I’m fine with it.”

“All right. I will guide you upstairs.”

As I followed him into the building, everyone I passed recognized me and greeted me.

“Hello, Kyu-seong!”

“Oh, you’re at the guild, Kyu-seong!”

“Kyaa, it’s Ara!”

It was overwhelming to greet everyone individually as I got on the elevator. Suddenly, when I looked beside me, Ara seemed to be in high spirits.

“Hehehe, I got many greetings.”

In reality, Ara was more famous than me. While I was gradually gaining recognition in the awakened industry, Ara was truly an SNS superstar!

Moreover, soon Ara’s drama will air, and she will be filming a commercial, so it was hard to keep up with her in terms of recognition.

“I also watch your YouTube channel.”

“Oh, thank you.”

I bowed in response to the staff member who suddenly confessed to being a fan.

“Are you my fan? Would you like an autograph?”

“Haha. I’d be grateful for an autograph.”

I thought it was just a polite remark, but the security staff actually handed me a piece of notepaper and a pen. It didn’t seem like a lie, as if he was prepared.

However, Ara, as if accustomed to such situations, drew a doodle with a confident expression.

“Here is my autograph!”

“Thank you, Ara.”

I’ve seen her sign a few times, and each time the doodle was different. Thanks to her writing ‘Ara’ at the end, you could tell it was her signature.

While she was signing, the elevator finally arrived. A staff member who was guarding the reception area noticed us and greeted us.

“Welcome, Mr. Kyu-seong. They are already informed inside, so you can enter as is.”

“Yes, thank you.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Ara confidently opened the door to the reception room.

Thud!

When the door opened, all eyes inside focused at once.

“You’ve arrived, Kyu-seong. Ara seems full of energy.”

“Have you been well, Han Seok-jun!”

Guild Master Han Seok-jun, who was seated, stood up and greeted us. Next to him, people started to rise from their seats.

“Hello, Guild Master.”

As I greeted and entered, a Westerner walked over briskly and offered his hand for a handshake. It was Johann Rothschild.

“It’s nice to see you again. I’m Johann from the Terror Guild. Do you remember me?”

“Of course, I remember. It’s nice to see you again too.”

While greeting, Director Choi subtly nodded at me. Then, a man who looked similar to Director Choi also started talking to me.

“I’m Choi Sung-hyuk from the Terror Guild. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Lee Kyu-seong.”

Wow, to see Choi Sung-hyuk, the Exterminator, right in front of me.

When I was on the verge of becoming awakened, Choi Sung-hyuk was the awakened person I admired the most. I knew he was ten years older than me, but he looked around my age.

“I’m a fan.”

“Pardon?”

“Oh, I apologize. It slipped out. I’m Lee Kyu-seong from Ara Hongryeon Guild.”

“Haha. Nice to meet you.”

I was curious about what Choi Sung-hyuk’s actual personality would be like compared to his media portrayal, and fortunately, it seemed to match.

Despite being a Level 8 awakened, ranking second in South Korea, Choi Sung-hyuk had a humble and modest image.

“I visited Ara Hongryeon because I couldn’t forget the dish made with your ingredients, Mr. Kyu-seong. I never expected the person behind it would come.”

“Oh!”

“It was the best meal of my life. Thank you.”

Flustered by Choi Sung-hyuk bowing and expressing his gratitude, I waved my hand in dismissal, and people laughed.

After the greetings, we sat down.

As Ara settled on my lap, I asked what I was curious about.

“May I ask what dish you had?”

“It was carrot soup.”

“Huh?”

Carrot soup?

Coincidentally, I brought golden carrot soup today too; what an amazing coincidence.

“It was my first time having a dish made with your ingredients, Mr. Kyu-seong. I was so curious about what other dishes would be like that I couldn’t even sleep. In the end, I couldn’t resist and contacted Guild Master Han Seok-jun and came over.”

Johann’s words made me feel a bit awkward. There was over 100 servings of the golden carrot soup left, so there wouldn’t be any shortage, but it felt a bit disappointing to serve carrot soup again to someone who came wanting to try something different.

‘Still, this is made from golden carrots…’

While the dishes made with magic carrots were delicious, this golden carrot, which had received a star rating, boasted an exceptional taste.

Honestly, before tasting it myself, I was skeptical that anything could taste better than dishes made with my original ingredients.

‘It existed. I still can’t believe it.’

The more I thought about it, the more I felt it was a pity that I couldn’t arbitrarily cultivate crops with star ratings. I still had to farm consistently, hoping to harvest them occasionally.

“Kyu-seong, I heard you brought something special today.”

Guild Master Han Seok-jun began the conversation while I was already hearing that the kitchen was cooking with the ingredients I delivered.

“I brought some food.”

“Oh, we can eat together then.”

“But what I brought is also carrot soup. I never imagined the folks from the Terror Guild would have recently eaten it.”

“Wow, what a coincidence. Could we also have a taste?”

“Of course.”

I took out the well-sealed carrot soup from Bokkeum. Then I noticed everyone watching me with watering mouths.

“It’ll be good as an appetizer.”

“I’ve only had strawberries, so I’m curious about the carrot soup too.”

“Huh? The color of the soup is slightly different from the one we had.”

Once I took out the soup to match the number of people, the staff took it and served it in bowls. Bringing it back warm was a bonus.

“Gulp.”

Watching the staff member with the bowl swallowing repeatedly made me smile slightly.

“I brought enough for everyone at the guild to have some. I’ll serve it now.”

“Oh, Mr. Kyu-seong…”

I ignored the embarrassed staff’s voice and had Bokkeum take out all the soup I brought. Then the sealed soups poured out.

“This much…?”

“So I purposely made it into a soup dish. I wanted everyone to try it.”

Everyone’s wide eyes on me made me feel a bit burdened.

Soon, the staff brought an item to expand space and took the soup away. Watching that, I realized people were waiting.

“Sorry. I kept you waiting in front of the food.”

“No, we’re actually quite moved.”

“Sorry? Moved?”

“To think Kyu-seong would take care of everyone. I mean, of course, I knew you would, but I didn’t expect it. I’m sorry.”

“Oh, no. There’s no need to apologize.”

Ugh, it’s embarrassing. I just wanted to share some delicious food, but the perspective was different.

For me, they were just ingredients I ate daily, but for others, they were ingredients they might only get to try once, or not at all, in their lifetime, except maybe Ara Hongryeon’s guild members, so the meaning and value were different.

“By the way, Kyu-seong. The color of this carrot soup is a bit different from the one I had. Does it have other ingredients?”

“Yes. The smell is quite different too. It feels much richer and deeper.”

As I was about to answer Johann and Choi Sung-hyuk, Ara spoke first.

“It’s a very delicious carrot!”

“A very delicious carrot?”

“It’s made from very! extremely! special carrots!”

Ara was trying to explain using all the words she knew. Watching Ara, Guild Master Han Seok-jun’s eyes filled with anticipation.

“If Ara says that much…”

“What Ara said is not wrong. It’s a dish made from special carrots that were luckily harvested. We might not encounter it again in the future.”

I said that, but I believed I’d be able to harvest them consistently. Especially as Mark2’s level continues to rise, I should be able to harvest more often.

“Let’s eat!”

“Yeah, let’s eat.”

Everyone held their spoons with anticipation. But we couldn’t skip the greeting.

“Let’s eat well!”
