Three days had passed since they obtained the Ring of the Arrogant One and began preparing to leave for the North. By the time the knights and soldiers had finished preparing, the expedition force had already departed for the North.

Not long after their departure…

“Deus Macallian.”

A man approached Deus. He had long blue hair and a vertical scar across his face. This was Fiola, one of the Master Knights of Caliban, known as the Fourth Sword.

“You laid a hand on my disciple,” Fiola said, his expression cold, his eyes betraying a hidden fury.

Deus, with an indifferent expression, responded, “Your disciple acted rudely towards my benefactor.”

“Ha, and that gives you the right to beat someone else’s disciple senseless?”

“Do you think it doesn’t?” Deus replied.

Fiola frowned at Deus’s words. His anger was clear on his face, and the intense energy he exuded filled the air, causing the knights around them to break out in a cold sweat. However, Deus, who took the full brunt of this power head-on, remained unfazed.

“You’re lucky I didn’t kill him, Fiola.”

Deus’s aura turned even more ominous, emitting a terrifying purple energy that pressed down on Fiola. The tension between them was so thick that it seemed like a sword fight would break out the moment someone drew a weapon. But after a moment of silence…

“Tch.”

Fiola was the first to turn away. Clicking his tongue, he glanced at Count Palatio, who was standing behind Deus.

“Don’t think I’m going to just let this go,” Fiola said before returning to his resting battalion.

Alone, watching Fiola leave, Alon thought to himself, ‘Terrifying.’

He felt a tingling in his hands as he subconsciously clenched and unclenched his fists. ‘So that’s a Master Knight for you.’

Just the sheer power Fiola unintentionally released had left Alon breathless. At that moment, Evan, standing nearby, muttered in disbelief, “That’s insane… he’s a complete monster.”

Alon turned his gaze to Deus. Despite the overwhelming energy Fiola had directed at him, Deus showed no signs of discomfort, which reminded Alon again that Deus was a Master Knight as well. It wasn’t that he ever forgot this fact, but Deus had been rather humble towards him recently, so seeing this side of him was a fresh reminder.

‘Honestly, he’s kind of rude to everyone else except me,’ Alon mused. He recalled rumors from a few days ago about Deus and thought of the time Deus had snapped at Evan, telling him, “Shut up, old man.”

‘Rescuing his sister must have been the right move after all,’ Alon thought to himself. Initially, he hadn’t understood why Deus was so obedient to him, but now it was becoming clear. In fact, he didn’t even need to guess anymore. Just watching Deus around his sister was answer enough.

‘Maybe in the future, if I call for help while running my estate, he’ll come running to save me,’ Alon grinned at the thought, though deep down he knew Deus wouldn’t go that far. He shrugged lightly and returned to his carriage. The expedition to the North continued.

***

Two weeks and three days later…

The expedition force crossed the border between Caliban and the North and arrived at their first outpost. There, they received three pieces of news.

The first was the death of Delman, the Third Sword, who had gone missing after news came that the eastern outpost of Caliban had fallen and the enemy appeared.

The second was that Kiriana, the Second Sword, who had been leading an advanced expedition to the western outpost, had suffered severe injuries in battle against the enemy.

And the final news was…

“Undead, you say?”

The messenger reported that the enemy was approaching the outpost, leading an army of the undead.

“Yes, the enemy has been reanimating fallen soldiers and knights into undead and marching with them.”

At the messenger’s words, Fiola let out a deep sigh and muttered, “This is troubling.”

Deus, hearing the same news, remained silent. If the messenger’s words were true, the situation was clearly unfavorable for Caliban.

The atmosphere in the meeting room was tense. Even the Master Knights and the nobles leading the soldiers were reluctant to speak. Finally, one of the nobles cautiously suggested, “Perhaps we should retreat?”

That simple suggestion unleashed a flood of opinions from the other attendees.

“Are you serious? You want us to turn our backs and run from the barbarians?”

“That’s not what I meant! I’m saying we should wait for a better opportunity. We’re already in a bad position, and the Second Sword is severely injured, not to mention Reinhardt still hasn’t returned from his seclusion. Do you really think we stand a chance?”

“At this point, do you think the injured could even escape while the barbarians advance on the outpost?”

The room quickly descended into chaos, but in the end, the opinions of the nobles didn’t hold much weight. The true leaders of the expedition were the two Master Knights. Eventually, the nobles looked toward Fiola and Deus for direction.

“Let’s think it over. I’ll call for another meeting later. For now, everyone, take a break and clear your minds,” Fiola said, standing up from his seat. Deus also rose without a word and exited the tent.

Outside, the land was the same dull gray as always. But to Deus, who had reached a certain level as a Master Knight, the world looked very different.

The red snowfields.

To Deus’s eyes, the gray land appeared as a crimson world, filled with an eerie, ominous energy. The sky, consumed by this sinister red mana, was both beautiful and terrifying, a sight that even made someone as strong as Deus feel a faint sense of intimidation.

He silently observed this strange world. After glancing at Fiola, who was likely seeing the same scene, Deus turned his gaze elsewhere.

There, he saw Alon, the Great Moon. Even though this terrifying world lay before him, Alon showed no signs of fear or awe. Instead, he sat calmly by the fire, eating a sweet potato with a blank expression. Unlike Deus, who couldn’t tear his eyes away from the crimson sky, Alon hadn’t glanced at the ominous landscape even once. He simply muttered to himself while eating.

“Diffraction, compression, focal point, annihilation.”

The Great Moon mumbled incomprehensible words as if he had seen this world countless times before, words that Deus couldn’t begin to understand. Watching him, Deus felt a surge of curiosity about Alon’s purpose for being in the North.

Of course, Deus had a rough idea that the Great Moon was here to deal with the enemy, but that didn’t quell all of his questions. After all, from Deus’s perspective, the Great Moon didn’t seem particularly powerful, neither now nor in the past.

‘Maybe he just can’t see what I’m seeing…’

Deus glanced back up at the red sky.

This scene was one that only those who had reached a certain level of enlightenment could see. The eerie landscape was enough to make him frown instinctively.

But what if it was simply that the Great Moon couldn’t see this scene? If that were the case, his behavior might be somewhat understandable. Just as Deus was pondering this…

“Ugh, seriously, back off!” A loud, high-pitched voice suddenly caught Deus’s attention. Turning to the source, he saw a knight facing off against a mage.

“Please, just a little more help! You know how dire the situation is!” the knight pleaded.

“I know that! But no matter how hard I try, I can’t do anything more! I have to leave!”

“Even so, just one more time…!”

“No! I told you, it’s impossible, you idiots!”

The mage screamed hysterically, while the knights continued to press her. Deus easily recognized the knights by their armor—they were members of “Silver Shade,” the knight order serving the Second Sword of Caliban, Kiriana.

Opposite them stood Penia, the Deputy Tower Master of the Blue Tower.

“Ugh, dragged out here for research when I have so much work to do, why won’t they just leave me alone?!” Penia complained.

“But shouldn’t saving lives come first…?” the knight insisted.

“I’m telling you, I’ve done everything I can! There’s nothing more I can do! I’m not refusing out of laziness—I’ve already done all I can!”

Watching the tantrum of Penia, the young prodigy of the magic world who had reached the 6th rank at a young age, Deus felt a moment of confusion but quickly understood. He remembered that the Caliban outpost was working in collaboration with mages from the Blue Tower to research the barbarians’ ‘rituals.’

‘Deputy Tower Master, huh… She’s strong,’ Deus thought, noting the remarkable energy emanating from her.

As Penia continued pushing the knights aside in frustration, she noticed Deus standing in her path. She scowled and was about to speak—

“What are you—”

—but froze before she could finish.

“…?”

Deus raised an eyebrow, confused by her sudden silence. But then he realized that she wasn’t looking at him, but at someone behind him.

“Wh-why…?” Penia’s trembling voice broke the tense air, and terror filled her eyes as if she had seen something that shouldn’t exist. Her body subtly shook, and Deus instinctively followed her gaze.

Standing there was Alon, who had just been munching on a sweet potato a moment ago. Now, he was staring back at Deus and Penia with a puzzled expression.

A brief moment passed, and then…

“It’s been a while, Deputy Tower Master,” Alon greeted calmly.

“Y-yes, hello…!” Penia stammered, suddenly acting like a scared kitten, her head lowered, all traces of her previous hysteria gone.

“How have you been?” Alon asked.

“I-I’ve been well…!”

Watching Penia, whom Deus had previously regarded as a powerful figure, now cowering like a stray cat, he couldn’t help but be baffled.

‘Was I simply ignorant all this time?’ Deus thought, quietly reflecting on his understanding of the situation.

Round 133

Prev | TOC | Next

I woke up at the scheduled time and carried Ara, who was still drowsy, on my back.

Wriggle wriggle-

The slimes were also huddled together, sleeping. Only a few were rolling around in the field and greeted me happily when they saw me.

Squish!

“Alright, I’ll be back.”

I patted them once and descended with a keen appetite.

As I passed through the door, I saw the dungeon where the snowfall had subsided. Come to think of it, I hadn’t asked how long the winter would last.

“But it’ll last for at least a month, right?”

The leaf house had also taken shape considerably. I had only worked on the iron frame, but while I was in China, the kids had covered it well.

-Neigh.

Purr approached, munching on a carrot. It seemed pleased as it munched away with crunching sounds.

“Let’s head straight to the World Tree.”

-Neigh!

I rode Purr with Ara on my back, moving at a steady pace. As we moved forward, Ara woke up and rubbed her eyes.

“Kyu-seong Kyu-seong …?”

“Ara, you’re awake?”

“…”

Ara, still half-asleep, nodded as if to say she was fine and then buried her face in my back, breathing softly again.

Before long, we arrived at the World Tree. All its leaves had fallen, leaving only bare branches, making it seem as if the last leaf had fallen too.

-CД’)>”

-(>ᄆ<)>

The fairies greeted me with enthusiastic reactions. They were full of energy since dawn!

“Where is Frey?”

-(。・・・。)?

Ara was sleeping, and it was difficult to communicate with the fairies when Frey appeared, riding a starlight bug.

-Great Lord!

“Ah, Frey. Am I late?”

-Not at all! You arrived exactly on time!

Frey pointed excitedly upwards.

-There! Do you see it?

“…Hmm. No, I can’t see it.”

Then suddenly, I remembered Ara’s clairvoyance.

‘Is it now?’

[Skill: Majesty of the Great Lord. Allows the use of a random ability from a designated slime for 10 minutes.]

Finally, a proper time to use it! I had used it a few times before but was cautious because it would be problematic if the skill was on cooldown during a crucial moment.

Just like with the first liquid synthesis, the Majesty of the Great Lord skill also had a bothersome cooldown of once per day.

‘Majesty of the Great Lord.’

[Designated Slime: Ara]

[One random ability will be copied at 20% of its original effect.]

The skill activated immediately, and an ability was copied.

[Physical Enhancement has been copied.]

[Duration: 10 minutes]

“That’s a bust.”

I dejectedly checked the copied ability.

[Physical Enhancement LV.1]

The Majesty of the Great Lord skill was great, but its randomness was disappointing. Of course, using it on slimes like Mark2 or Bokkeum, who had only one ability, guaranteed the desired ability, but I wanted to use Ara’s incredible abilities.

-Great Lord?

“It’s nothing. By the way, when do we collect the dew?”

-I’ve already sent scouts ahead. They will signal as soon as the dew forms.

“Is there nothing I need to do separately?”

-That’s right! Thank you for your concern, Great Lord!

Since there was nothing for me to do, I decided to just wait. After all, Ara was still sleepy, so there was no rush.

“Didn’t you say last time that we needed one more ingredient?”

-You mean the honey of the starflower! Of course, I prepared it in advance! Ever since meeting you, Great Lord, I’ve been waiting for this moment!

“What about the Meluca flower? Weren’t you waiting for more Meluca to grow?”

-Yes, of course, we were waiting for more Meluca flowers to grow! It was just a coincidence!

Frey’s true feelings slipped out, and it was amusing to see the nearby fairies’ gazes suddenly change.

– \ (• \ • )/

“Huh? Something’s coming down from above.”

-The dew has formed! I’ll be right back!

-(。>▼ <%)/!

At the news that the dew had formed, the fairies’ mood heated up as if a festival had begun.

Thanks to this, Ara, who was still buried in my back, started to stir and wake up.

“Uhm…….”

“Ara, are you awake?”

“Where is this place……………?”

When I told her it was the World Tree, Ara, wearing the full armor of the Mountain King, looked around. She was so cute that despite my neck aching from turning to look at her, I couldn’t help but watch.

-Gasp!

At that moment, I heard an urgent voice from above. What is it? In that instant, a small droplet of water falling from the sky caught my eye.

Normally, I wouldn’t have even noticed such a small droplet. But somehow, not only did I notice it, but I also quickly moved and reached the spot where it was falling.

Plop!

I barely managed to extend my hands and catch the droplet in my palm. Though some of it evaporated, it would have been absorbed into the soil if it had hit the ground.

Clap clap clap clap.

“Oh! Kyu-seong Kyu-seong !”

Ara, seeing me, clapped her hands brightly, though she didn’t seem to understand what was happening.

‘Thanks to copying the physical enhancement ability, I managed to move in time.’

I had wanted an ability like clairvoyance, but this turned out to be very fortunate.

-Great Lord!

Frey, who had come down late on the starlight bug, looked at me in surprise. I proudly showed the cupped liquid in my hands.

“I saved it.”

-Is that so? As expected of you, Great Lord.

Frey’s response felt awkward for some reason.

Just as I wondered why, other fairies came down on starlight bugs, each carrying small containers made from the World Tree.

“?”

When I looked at these fairies quizzically, Frey awkwardly exclaimed.

-Tada! We’ve brought the dew of the World Tree!

I shifted my gaze to the liquid in my palm.

-We spilled a drop of dew earlier, and I couldn’t help but cry out in regret. But fortunately, you caught it, Great Lord.

“Doesn’t dew only form one drop at a time?”

-Hehe. As you can see ………………

Though the containers were small, they held a total of about 50 ml.

“Would you like to taste the dew you collected as a memento?”

I felt embarrassed for being so proud.

As I stood there silently and blankly, Ara came over and licked her lips.

“Kyu-seong Kyu-seong , can I taste it?”

“…Yes. Here it is.”

Lick.

Ara’s tongue on my palm tickled.

With a bit of commotion, we gathered together in Alfheim village. Transparent leaves were used as cushions on the snow, keeping us dry and comfortable.

“This is the honey of the starflower!”

Frey, who had brought honey from inside the World Tree, handed it to me with a hopeful expression. It seemed she hadn’t been this excited even when the Meluca flower budded…

The honey and dew didn’t display any item indicators. Honestly, I was slightly worried that Frey might have misunderstood the awakening method.

‘If it doesn’t work even after I help, she will be greatly disappointed…’

In that case, we would have to find another method. We should verify whether the traditional awakening method was incorrect.

For now, I gathered the dew of the World Tree and the honey of the starflower in one place. Then, I used simple liquid synthesis on them.

Whoosh-

The liquids mixed instantly.

The combined liquids shimmered clearly.

“Is it done?”

Frey’s expression was grim. I recalled that the World Tree’s Tears, which should form from mixing the two liquids, were supposed to be sky blue.

However, the liquid synthesized was clearly transparent.

“Ah…”

A disappointed sigh escaped me unintentionally.

But then, upon closer inspection, an item indicator that hadn’t appeared before came into view.

[Incomplete Elixir]

[A liquid that is almost a mystical potion. It can become complete if supplemented with missing ingredients and processes.]

It has no effect if consumed.

“An elixir?”

I widened my eyes and read the item description again. It wasn’t a mistake.

Elixir.

The legendary potion everyone has heard of at least once, appearing in numerous fantasy novels and games.

Of course, it didn’t exist in reality, yet here it was in front of me.

-What’s wrong, Great Lord?

“Frey, it’s too early to give up.”

-What?

“This isn’t complete. It seems we’re missing an ingredient.”

Frey, looking dejected, tilted her head in confusion at my words.

-So, it wasn’t a failure?

“It wasn’t a failure. It seems we’re short on ingredients.”

-?!

Frey looked at the incomplete elixir with a surprised expression.

“Do you have any idea? It seems something was missed when the information was passed down.”

-We moved here in a hurry, so we might not have received the complete information! It wasn’t wrong after all!

Frey, who had been speaking brightly, soon became gloomy again.

-But I have no idea what it could be…

“Hmm.”

Just then, Ara, who had been listening to our conversation, suddenly reached out to me.

“Kyu-seong Kyu-seong ! I will check it myself!”

“Check?”

“Yes!”

I shrugged and handed the incomplete elixir to Ara. Her eyes sparkled as she took the elixir.

“Hmph!”

I watched Ara stare intently at the elixir, wondering what she was doing. Then, she relaxed her gaze and proudly spoke.

“Hmph! I can see it!”

“See? What can you see?”

“I can tell what’s missing!”

“You can see it?!”

-Is that true, Lady Ara?!

Frey and I were both astonished as we looked at Ara. Then I remembered Ara’s ability.

“Clairvoyance!”

“Yes!”

Ara stood confidently, hands on her hips.

“Something cold, hard, cozy, hot, or fresh needs to be mixed in. Any of these five will work.”

…Huh?

What on earth are you talking about, Ara?

As I made a puzzled sound, unable to comprehend, Ara explained again.

“The liquid changes depending on what you mix in! Cold, hard, cozy, hot, or fresh!”

“Frey, do you understand what she means?”

It was definitely Korean, but I couldn’t grasp the meaning. It wasn’t just me; Frey’s eyes were spinning in confusion too.

-Cold? Hot? Cozy? Hard? What’s fresh?

“Ara, can we add something like this snow if it’s cold?”

Not expecting Frey to answer, I asked again.

“No, it needs to have strong energy.”

“Strong energy? Like a potion?”

Wait a minute.

I remembered a potion I had stored with Bokkeum. A valuable item obtained during the recent skyscraper visit.

It was none other than the Millennium Ginseng.

The effect of the Millennium Ginsengwas to enhance the energy of all five elements.

‘The Five Elements!’

Water, Metal, Earth, Fire, Wood.

Cold, hard, cozy, hot, fresh. It seemed to refer to the energy of the five elements.

“Ara! I understand what you mean!”

“Oh! Kyu-seong Kyu-seong ! You finally understand me!”

-Oh! Great Lord! Have you figured it out?

Wait a moment!

I stopped my celebration and glanced at the elixir.

…Do I need the Millennium Ginseng?

Hmm.

I couldn’t refuse to help Frey, but…

I pondered deeply, and Frey and Ara watched me, tilting their heads.

“Frey.”

I made up my mind and slowly began to speak.

-Yes, Great Lord!

“I think I know what ingredient needs to be added.”

-What is it?!

“It must be a potion containing the energy of the elements.”

-A potion containing the energy of the elements?

It was an easy explanation for an awakened being to understand, but it seemed difficult for Frey. So I explained a bit more simply.

“It seems we need an herb that contains strong mana energy.”

“Ohh…….”

Frey nodded, somewhat understanding, but realized how difficult it would be to obtain such an ingredient, looking disappointed.

“Frey, I have such an herb.”

-Gasp!

Frey’s eyes widened in surprise, but she soon looked downcast again. Her changing expressions were quite endearing.

-That’s such a precious thing. I can’t dare to wish for it. I shouldn’t even hope for it.

“Honestly, it is precious.”

-Right…

Frey’s eyes became teary as she trailed off. Watching her, I spoke.

“Frey, can you give me some time?”

-Time?

“I’m a Great Lord of Slimes. My specialty is farming.”

-Farming…? Gasp! Could it be!

I intended to try it anyway, and even if I failed, there was nothing to lose.

“I’ll try to cultivate the herb.”

-Oh!!

Even if I failed in cultivation, the original Millennium Ginsengwould remain intact. While I wasn’t sure it would stay completely unscathed, I was confident there would be enough left for Frey.

“Can you wait?”

-Of course!

“Hehe! That’s great!”

Frey shouted with teary eyes, and Ara cheered beside her.

Alright, let’s discuss this with Mark2!

Round 132

Prev | TOC | Next

Han Seok-jun received the item from Kyu-seong with a serious expression. It appeared to be an ordinary tiger pajama set on the surface.

[Tiger King’s Full Armor (Legendary)]

However, upon seeing the item window appear before his eyes, he couldn’t help but let out a sigh.

“Hmm…”

It was unmistakable proof. It was truly a legendary item. The item’s grades were divided into common, advanced, rare, unique, and legendary, with no higher grade known. Therefore, legendary items were considered the highest grade currently known, and only 11 of such items existed in Korea.

Han Seok-jun couldn’t help but chuckle thinking about how nonchalantly it had been worn.

‘As expected of a legendary item.’

Although a smile briefly appeared on his face, it quickly faded as he looked at the effects listed below the description.

‘To see percentages so openly stated…!’

– Reduces physical damage and shock by 35%.

If asked if this was surprising, he could answer a hundred out of a hundred times that it was indeed surprising. The system was unkind, and this phrase had become a popular saying due to the vague explanations given by the system. Clear sentences or numbers were rarely used to describe quests, rewards, and various item descriptions provided by the system.

‘For example, this.’

– Increases strength.

– Increases temperature resistance.

Both effects were attached to the Tiger King’s Full Armor. However, no one knew how much strength or temperature resistance was increased. One could only find out through direct testing and experience. But to have a clear description like “Reduces physical damage and shock by 35%”? Not only was the precise description surprising, but the effect itself was also eye-opening.

Kyu-seong, cautiously observing Han Seok-jun’s varied expressions, eventually spoke up awkwardly.

“They gave me something a bit excessive. Ha. Ha.”

At Kyu-seong’s words, Han Seok-jun immediately questioned him.

“What happened during the two days and one night?”

“Nothing special. On the first day, I attended a bizarre food party and visited various guild sites. The second day was just more guild visits.”

“You didn’t offer anything in return?”

“No. When I said the gift was too much, they insisted it wasn’t enough and told me to ask for more if I wanted. But I had already received so much that I couldn’t ask for more shamelessly.”

At that moment, Ara, who had been listening, spoke up with a bright smile.

“It means you’ve become friends! A friend gave you a gift!”

“Friend?”

“I am now friends with Sonogong!”

“Sonogong?”

As Han Seok-jun tilted his head, Kyu-seong added an explanation.

“On the first day, they treated us to a meal. The food was… quite unique.”

“Yes, Guild Leader Ryu Wang-jin’s peculiar tastes are well-known. You must have had a hard time.”

“No, thanks to Ara, it was no trouble at all. She ate everything by herself.”

“It was delicious!”

Seeing Ara’s proud expression, Han Seok-jun nodded in understanding. He could also guess why they were now calling Ryu Wang-jin a friend.

“Considering all the eccentric things he does, it makes sense for him to give such gifts. It was also a form of gratitude for treating Ryu Cheon…”

“Thanks to your kind consideration.”

“Alright, then. Please accept the item.”

Returning the full armor to Kyu-seong, Han Seok-jun spoke seriously.

“Legendary items are extremely rare. Even our Ara Hongryeon guild owns only one. Please use it well.”

“Guild Leader, but this isn’t the only gift.”

“Not the only one?”

Han Seok-jun, who could no longer be surprised, asked with a rather fearful expression. Seeing this reaction, Kyu-seong scratched his head and took out a wooden box from Bokkeum.

“Wait a moment, Kyu-seong.”

“Yes?”

“Is it something dangerous?”

“No!”

“In that case, you don’t need to show it to me. Legendary items are so precious that it’s good for us to know about them in advance for any unforeseen situations, but anything else is your personal belonging, and there’s no need to report it.”

“Oh! Understood.”

As Kyu-seong put the wooden box back, Han Seok-jun watched Ara don the armor again. Seeing the armor fit her perfectly, he spoke to Kyu-seong, who was packing his things.

“You must be tired after returning from China. Why don’t you head in for now? I look forward to hearing more details next time.”

“Thank you. I’ll be going in then.”

After finishing the conversation, Kyu-seong and Ara left. Han Seok-jun, left alone in his office, watched their retreating figures and then sat back down.

‘Who would have thought that Korea’s 12th legendary item would end up in Kyu-seong’s hands?’

Of course, a guild as large as the Skyscraper Guild likely owned more than five legendary items. Given their vast territory and numerous dungeons, it was expected. There were over ten such colossal guilds, showcasing their immense power. Despite this strength, China was not satisfied.

‘The Seven Deadly Sins…’

The first attempt to subdue the Seven Deadly Sins dungeon. An event that gathered renowned awakeners from various countries to conquer the Dungeon of Greed. There were rumors in the industry about the existence of mythic items, spread like ghost stories. The plausible theory that mythic grade items could only be obtained from the Seven Deadly Sins dungeons emerged.

Although the first attempt ended in a massive failure, several awakening superpowers had not given up on the Seven Deadly Sins dungeons. Instead, they were more meticulously preparing, claiming that they had gathered more data.

‘As early as next year, the European Union will attempt the second subjugation of the Seven Deadly Sins. The target is the Dungeon of Wrath.’

Greed, Wrath, and Lust. These were the three discovered Seven Deadly Sins dungeons so far. The Dungeon of Wrath, among them, was already thoroughly investigated and prepared for conquest.

Thinking of the impending massive storm, Han Seok-jun also steeled his resolve.

***

“I thought I would die not seeing our Ara for two days.”

Returning to my parents’ house after the trip to China, Seon-ah couldn’t let go of Ara. Seeing Ara in the full armor for the first time, my sister’s eyes practically rolled back in awe. It seemed she planned to keep hugging Ara for a while.

“By the way, what a great sense! How did they think of giving such a gift? Is she a fan of our Ara? Ryu Cheon’s sense is really…”

“Yes, yes.”

The legendary item’s identity was only revealed to the Guild Leader, not to anyone else. There was no particular reason to share it.

Anyway, while sharing stories about what happened at the Skyscraper Guild with the family after two days:

“Brother, have you thought about it?”

“Thought about what?”

“What do you mean what? You got a call from Iron Blood Entertainment!”

“Oh, that?”

Before leaving, I vaguely heard from Seon-ah about the offer. They wanted Ara to be a child actor and model for various advertisements.

‘Iron Blood is an entertainment agency under the Ironblood Group. It would be good to talk to CEO Baek first…’

Honestly, I wasn’t very interested, but the idea of Ara becoming an actress seemed intriguing. Given my connection with CEO Baek, meeting and discussing it wouldn’t be a bad idea.

“I’ve already left a message for CEO Baek Tae-seop. Once he replies, we can talk and then decide.”

“CEO Baek Tae-seop? Brother, you even know his personal contact?”

“Of course, I treated Baek Seung-hyun when he awakened, so naturally, I have his contact.”

As I watched Seon-ah’s exasperated expression, my father spoke up.

“Work starts tomorrow.”

“Yes.”

I nodded, having heard something from the guild earlier.

“Should I send the money in advance?”

“Send it to me, and I’ll handle it.”

The mountain with the dungeon was now entirely mine. With the help of Ara Hongryeon, my proactive father had immediately taken on the construction work. The guild even resolved the complex administrative processes while I was in China.

I realized once again how wise it was to join the guild.

“We’ll level the ground based on your house and lay a new road. It won’t be asphalt, but a sidewalk block type. If you pay more, we can make a gravel path or other interiors too.”

“Money isn’t an issue, so please do what you think is best. I’ll leave it all to you.”

“Leaving it to me, huh? You just don’t want to deal with it, right?”

“Hehe. That’s right, Father.”

Honestly, what do I know about this? My father, who is an expert in this area, would handle it better. It’s always best to leave such tasks to those who know what they’re doing to avoid any confusion.

Of course, I planned to check the work and help my father if he needed it.

“Shall we get going?”

“Already leaving?”

My mother, disappointed that we wouldn’t stay the night, looked at Ara with eyes full of honey. It wasn’t that she was sad about me leaving; she was sad that Ara wouldn’t stay.

“I have things to do. That’s why I couldn’t stay long in China and returned early.”

“Then how about letting Ara stay for a day?”

“I can’t be without Ara.”

Ara, too, was getting ready to leave, making Seon-ah and my mother look wistfully at her.

“Sigh, when will we see our Ara again?”

“Ara, don’t you want to stay with us? Can’t you stay just one night?”

“Ugh…”

Ara looked troubled, thinking deeply about their clinginess. Her expression was so adorable that Seon-ah and my mother ended up hugging her.

“We can’t let you go! No! You can’t leave!”

“Kyu-seong, you’ll have to go alone. Ara will stay with us for the night. Right, Ara?”

“Do I have to go…?”

Oh, why are they doing this?

I lifted the distressed Ara and firmly defended her from their clutches.

“Feel free to visit us when you have time. Or you can come with us now.”

“If it weren’t for school! Why this trial for me!”

Recently starting school, Seon-ah waved to Ara with teary eyes, looking resentful.

“I’ll definitely come on the weekend, Ara!”

“Yes!”

My father and mother planned to visit tomorrow. My father needed to be on-site for the construction anyway, so my mother decided to accompany him. After finishing a delightful dinner and conversation, I returned home to find the slimes greeting me as usual.

“Squish~!”

I petted each of the happily welcoming slimes and glanced around the fields. As expected, the fields were well-maintained by these creatures skilled in farming.

Ah, it’s about time to let them know.

“Guys, you’re all moving to the Dungeon of Gluttony soon.”

“Squish?!”

Maybe the announcement was too sudden. The slimes, who were working—no, playing in the fields, looked at me in surprise.

“We’re going to empty these fields and let you play in a bigger and better area.”

“Squish squish?”

One slime moved as if asking for an explanation. It seemed they had grown attached to this place.

“We’re starting major construction, including this interior area. I’m planning to keep this as my living space and move all the fields to Gluttony.”

I planned to leave a small vegetable garden since Ara was here and could manage it. After all, we usually slept in this slime dungeon. The Dungeon of Gluttony consumed mana depending on the time we spent there, so it made sense to transform this place completely into a living space and relocate all the fields. If we ever had an abundance of resources, we could even solve our living needs within the Dungeon of Gluttony.

‘Maybe completing a quest could stop the mana consumption too.’

If that happened, I would consider building a nice house in the Dungeon of Gluttony.

“Squish!”

The slimes nodded as if they understood. Most of the slimes here were Rookies who hadn’t experienced the Dungeon of Gluttony yet, so they had no idea how great it was.

“Look forward to it, guys.”

“So, let’s go to bed early tonight.”

“Yes! We need to wake up early!”

Tomorrow was finally the day when the last leaf Frey mentioned would fall. Therefore, we planned to go to bed early and wake up around 3 AM to visit Gluttony. We needed to enter early and prepare.

‘Frey’s awakening… Will I finally see her use the wings on her back to fly?’

“Beep beep beep!”

Malon, a guard working in the capital of Caliban, Kirdam, loves rumors. The reason is simple: spending all day on duty at the city walls can be boring, and gossip is one of the ways to make his shifts more enjoyable.

For that reason, Malon had been waiting for this day—or more precisely, for the day Count Palatio would arrive. He had heard a secret rumor that the troublemaker, who ran wild under the shadow of his master, had asked to be summoned as soon as Count Palatio arrived.

Malon didn’t know why that troublemaker was seeking out a count from another country, but he knew what would happen next. After all, there was only one reason that troublemaker ever sought someone out. Thanks to this, Malon was expecting a highly entertaining spectacle once Count Palatio arrived.

However, what he saw was far from what he had expected. It wasn’t Count Palatio who was being beaten, but Vilan, and the one assaulting him was none other than Deus.

Deus, one of the Master Knights of Caliban, had risen to the top of the knightly order in less than a year with unmatched talent, earning the title of “Muken” (Swordless). It was Deus who had struck Vilan.

Even that was enough to shock everyone in the capital, where rumors spread like wildfire in a single day. But Malon was even more stunned by what happened next.

‘The Swordless… bowed his head…?’

Malon stared, mouth agape, at Deus bowing his head as he spoke.

“Did… Sir Swordless just bow his head?”

“The Swordless…?”

The guards around him were equally shocked. The reason for their disbelief was simple: until now, Deus had never bowed to anyone in Caliban, except for the current king.

There was even an incident where he slapped the second prince three times for harassing his only sister, an event still talked about in the capital. Deus’s reputation soared after that, even though the second prince was known as a troublemaker abandoned by the royal family. Despite committing an offense against royalty, Deus wasn’t punished, further elevating his status.

It essentially meant that the entire Kingdom of Caliban regarded Deus Macallian as more important than the second prince, and his reputation only grew stronger.

Yet here he was, bowing his head to a mere count from another country.

“Please, get in.”

Seeing Deus bowing to Count Palatio was enough to shock anyone familiar with the rumors.

Soon, all eyes were on the Count, who walked without expression, escorted by the Master Knight, as if this situation didn’t faze him at all.

And then—

‘Who exactly is this Count Palatio, that the Swordless would bow to him?’

Malon and everyone who saw the Count’s face had the same question on their minds, their mouths hanging open in astonishment.

‘This situation is strange, but why are they looking at me like that?’

Alon, the one receiving these shocked stares, felt puzzled by the situation.

“Please, get in.”

He then turned his gaze at Deus’s words and noticed the carriage waiting for him.

‘It stands out…’

Unlike other carriages, it was painted entirely in black, making it impossible to miss. And—

Thud!

—surrounded by knights as if they were guarding it like a fortress, Alon started to understand why people were staring at him this way.

Even he thought this was a bit too much.

“Got it.”

However, it would be ridiculous to refuse to ride the carriage at this point, so Alon quietly got in.

“I will take care of the carriage then,” said Evan, ending the conversation as Alon, now in the carriage with Deus, headed toward the mansion under the escort of the black knights.

***

A short while later…

‘Is this… a mansion?’

Seeing Deus’s mansion for the first time, Alon was visibly surprised. He had heard that Caliban’s capital was large compared to other kingdoms, but this was the first time he’d seen a mansion of such immense size.

‘Is this what success looks like…?’

Alon briefly mused as he followed Deus, who led the way from the carriage through the vast mansion towards the office.

Once inside the office…

“Please, have a seat.”

“Hmm?”

Alon looked slightly puzzled as Deus offered him the seat of honor without hesitation.

Even though Alon had little knowledge of formal etiquette, he knew the basics.

‘Isn’t the owner supposed to sit in the seat of honor?’

Of course, if Alon were of a higher rank, things might be different, but he was only a count— and not even a noble of Caliban, but from the Kingdom of Asteria.

In short, there was no need for Deus to treat him with such excessive courtesy.

From Alon’s perspective, Deus’s treatment made him feel like a proud father whose son had made a great success. He felt pleased but also slightly concerned.

He had quite a few favors to ask Deus.

“Hmm…”

Clearing his throat, Alon sat in the seat of honor, and Deus naturally sat beside him.

A heavy silence followed.

‘What should I talk about?’

Of course, there were many things Alon needed to ask for, but he knew that communication doesn’t work that way.

First, he needed to make some small talk.

But having never spoken to Deus face-to-face, let alone exchanged letters, Alon felt awkward. Just as he was struggling with the silence…

Creak—

“I’m a bit late.”

Evan, guided in by the knights, cautiously entered the room, and Alon realized that Evan had brought a gift.

“Evan, the gift.”

“Understood.”

At Alon’s command, Evan placed the gift on Deus’s desk.

“This is…?”

“A gift.”

At Deus’s response, Alon let out a small sigh. He had been wondering how to start the conversation, and now the gift had given him a way in.

“Thank you.”

Deus bowed his head slightly to Alon.

And then… silence.

‘Alright, isn’t this the part where the conversation naturally follows?’

The thought passed through Alon’s mind, and he finally opened his mouth.

“Aren’t you going to open the gift?”

“It would be improper to open it now; I’ll do so later.”

Alon understood that it was indeed rude to open a gift in front of a high-ranking person with too much excitement.

But Alon wasn’t a high-ranking noble himself.

‘…What exactly does he think of me?’

Alon’s confusion was apparent, but his bewilderment didn’t last long.

Because—

Creak—!

“B-Brother…?”

Before he could gather his thoughts, a young girl entered Deus’s office. Like Deus, she had striking purple eyes. She glanced around the room before her gaze settled on Evan.

“Oh! Brother Evan!”

Recognizing him, she greeted him with a familiar smile.

“Oh, Silly!”

Evan also smiled warmly as he stood up, and Alon quickly realized that the girl was Deus’s younger sister, whom Evan had been sent to rescue.

‘They do look alike.’

In the game <Psychedelia>, only the tragic circumstances of her death were described, so Alon had never seen her appearance. Yet, now that he saw her in person, he couldn’t help but nod in agreement at the strong resemblance. As he turned his gaze to Deus, Alon was startled.

Deus had a distinctly displeased expression on his face. When Silly grabbed Evan’s hand, his eyes grew even sharper.

“Silly, Evan is not your brother. He’s an old man,” Deus remarked.

Watching this, Alon quickly realized how protective Deus was of his sister. In short, it was safe to call him a *siscon*.

Though Alon understood Deus’s attachment, knowing from the game that he had suffered a great sense of loss and lack of family, it was still amusing.

As Alon was thinking about this, Silly, who had been playing with Evan moments before, suddenly came over to Alon and spoke cheerfully.

“You’re Count Palatio, right?”

“That’s correct.”

“I heard from Evan. You gave the order to save me.”

Hearing this, Alon glanced at Deus, then nodded quietly.

“I just did my duty.”

‘If you died, your brother could have turned into a continental killing machine.’

“Thank you so much,” Silly said, bowing deeply.

Seeing her heartfelt gratitude warmed Alon’s heart. Even though his actions had been motivated by other intentions, receiving sincere thanks for his good deeds felt rewarding.

Alon smiled slightly.

***

After Silly left, the atmosphere relaxed a little. Alon cleared his throat, glancing at Deus, who still wore a subtly hostile expression toward Evan after his sister’s departure.

“Deus, the reason I’ve come to see you is that I need a favor.”

“A favor…?” Deus asked, looking slightly confused.

“Yes. Is there something strange about that?”

Alon responded with equal confusion.

“No, nothing. Please, go ahead.”

Though Deus’s words seemed a little odd, Alon paused for a moment. He found it hard to speak now that it was time to make his request. He had two favors to ask of Deus, and both were likely to be somewhat difficult.

After hesitating, Alon finally spoke up with the first request.

“I need to go to the North. Could you accompany me?”

“Of course.”

Alon blinked, surprised at how easily Deus agreed.

“Is it really that simple?”

“Yes, I was planning a northern expedition anyway.”

Hearing this, Alon felt relieved. The first request, at least, turned out to be relatively easy.

Taking a deep breath of relief, Alon made his second request.

“Could I borrow the ‘Ring of the Arrogant One’ from the Caliban royal treasury?”

As he made this request, Alon watched Deus carefully. After all, asking to borrow something from the royal treasury was essentially like indebting oneself to the royal family, and it could be quite a tricky matter for Deus.

No matter how powerful Deus was, he was still bound by the political interests of the Kingdom of Caliban.

However, the ‘Ring of the Arrogant One’ was essential for Alon’s plan, and he had to ask, even if it put Deus in an awkward position.

“Of course, I don’t want this to cause you any trouble—” Alon began, trying to soften the request and offer compensation, but—

“Understood,” Deus interrupted.

“…What?”

“I will retrieve the ‘Ring of the Arrogant One’ right away.”

Deus bowed slightly as he spoke, leaving Alon bewildered once again.

‘Wait, this is good… but… is it really okay?’

With a slightly dazed expression, Alon asked, “You know where it is, right?”

“I’ve heard it’s in the royal treasury of Caliban.”

“And isn’t it a bit difficult to get it?”

“It usually takes about a week by normal means, but if you wish, I can retrieve it immediately.”

“…Is there a way to do that?”

Curious about Deus’s bold claim, Alon inquired.

Deus paused for a moment, seeming to consider something, then replied.

“The king might be a bit troublesome, but I can handle about 50 people, so it shouldn’t be too difficult.”

“…Huh?”

Evan, who was nearby, was visibly taken aback, and though Alon didn’t show it as openly, he was just as baffled by Deus’s unwavering determination.

‘Is this his way of showing how far he’s willing to go for me?’

Interpreting Deus’s words as a sign of his loyalty, Alon hesitated before saying, “No, there’s no need to go that far.”

“Understood… I will retrieve the ring as quickly as possible.”

Deus looked somewhat disappointed as he agreed. Alon, for a brief moment, thought, ‘I just wanted you to borrow it…’, but he quickly nodded in response.

‘He really cares about me, but isn’t this a bit much…?’

And with that thought, Alon spent a day at the mansion while waiting for the ring to be retrieved.

“I’ve brought it.”

“…What?”

Alon stared at the precious jewel-encrusted box containing the ‘Ring of the Arrogant One.’

And then—

“What?”

“Count, did you hear? Yesterday, Deus apparently caused a ruckus at the royal palace demanding the treasure. I also heard he slapped the second prince again.”

“…??”

At Evan’s report, Alon was left utterly speechless.

‘What is going on?!’

Alon began to realize something was off about Deus.

“Give back the land you stole, you savage.”

“It has been a long time, Your Majesty.”

Despite the emperor’s outburst of insults the moment they saw each other, Chief Dunadan of the Great Plains maintained a stoic expression and greeted politely.

He seemed quite accustomed to this, as if it were not the first time such an exchange had occurred.

Even though a significant diplomatic incident was unfolding in real-time, no one around them did anything to stop it, only offering awkward smiles.

Regardless of the accusations about stolen land, it was the emperor himself who had ceded that territory to the tribal alliance, which had been a reliable ally throughout the war.

“How is the Empire’s war division this time? Are they as healthy as always?”

“They’ve thinned out a little compared to before. Toward the end of the war, a bit…”

The emperor swallowed his words for a moment.

“…there were some things that happened.”

Understanding what the emperor was referring to, Dunadan smirked slightly.

There had indeed been a terrible incident.

The event where the Empire’s brightest star fell.

“The position of the Warden of the Realm will be filled by someone, Your Majesty. The prince will also return to how he was before, eventually—”

“Enough, how are your war divisions?”

The emperor cut him off sharply, and Dunadan smirked inwardly again.

He knew all too well that this wasn’t an event that could be soothed with a few comforting words.

It was better to go along with the flow of conversation.

“I’ve brought a group of young warriors full of energy and eager to fight.”

“Isn’t that just a nice way to describe a bunch of greenhorns?”

“And knowing that, why would you send someone like her?”

Dunadan glanced up at the stage where the duel was set to take place.

While the warriors of the allied tribes were warming up for the battle, the Empire’s side looked rather sparse.

One woman sat calmly with her eyes closed, as if in meditation.

Yet even in that stillness, her very presence seemed to weigh down the atmosphere around her, exuding a heavy, almost oppressive aura.

It was the very embodiment of a predator’s majesty.

“Aren’t you taking this too seriously? You’ve sent the Lionheart to what’s supposed to be a mere exchange event.”

Even Dunadan’s voice carried a hint of awe, to which the emperor chuckled and took another drag from his cigarette.

“She’s just one person. It’s not like I’m unaware of how well your warriors can fight.”

“You’re exaggerating too much.”

As Dunadan spoke, he looked down at the stage.

The Lionheart was preparing for the duel, taking a deep breath and channeling her energy.

From her chest, a white aura began to rise and soon expanded into a dome-shaped barrier that covered the entire arena.

It was a safety precaution, meant to prevent the impact of the fight from spreading to the surroundings.

Still.

The sight of a single human creating such a massive hemispherical barrier was almost awe-inspiring.

Even though aura-based abilities naturally had a power output advantage, normally it would take an entire division of specialized soldiers to create something like that.

“…It’s ridiculous, really.”

Having someone who was about to fight perform such a task was nothing short of absurd.

And yet, not a single person in the room protested.

In fact, there was an air of inevitability about it, as if it was perfectly natural.

The reason was simple.

The Lionheart was a monster who could handle something like that.

‘The Pure White Aura.’

Dunadan’s eyes swept over the dome made of aura.

It was the pinnacle of the energy that every knight in the Empire aspired to wield.

The fact that the Lionheart could function as a human ‘power plant’ was all thanks to her special ability.

“She’s a warrior who was called a one-person army, even on battlefields where countless others fell like leaves in the wind. Isn’t she more than enough on her own?”

The emperor’s face broke into a mischievous smile.

“To be precise, she’s not alone.”

“Pardon?”

“There’s someone else, though they haven’t come up yet. I’m curious to see what they’ll show.”

His voice was undoubtedly filled with anticipation.

***

He ended up going to the restroom because he was so nervous.

How did things end up like this?

His gaze drifted forward.

The sight was filled with rugged men who looked like living embodiments of the “barbarian warrior” stereotype, completely out of place in this era of concrete buildings, black-and-white TVs, and telephones.

‘Am I really supposed to fight those guys?’

If there were a negotiation table where he could avoid this, Aiden would gladly give up a year of his life. He wasn’t joking—he was absolutely serious.

“Sorry for dragging you into this, Mr. Aiden.”

It was clear that Aiden wasn’t the only one aware of how troubling this situation was.

The apologetic tone in Noel’s whispered words made that apparent.

Even though from her perspective, Aiden was someone hiding mysterious powers and a strange past, forcing him into such a dangerous situation was a different matter altogether. She seemed to feel guilty about it.

The problem was that Noel had no excuse to strongly refuse either.

Not long ago, Aiden had completely crushed a high-ranking combatant just below knight level in a single blow, and even a royal of the Holy Empire who wielded divine power had met the same fate.

Considering that the emperor had gone to such lengths to arrange this, he must have been aware of all those facts.

“Besides, you probably won’t need to do much yourself. I just have one simple favor to ask.”

The fortunate thing was that she herself had more than enough ability to handle such situations.

Before Aiden could ask what that meant, the sign in the center of the arena changed from red to blue. It was the signal for the start of the duel.

At the same time.

“Orb, lotus, shine forth!”

A fierce battle cry erupted from among the allied warriors.

Immediately after, light began to shine from the characters written on their bodies. Bright beams of light burst out, flowing around them, and several spheres of light also floated up among the radiance.

“Is this your first time seeing this?”

Seeing Aiden’s wide-eyed expression, Noel tilted her head and spoke.

Despite the savage-looking warriors in front of her, she remained as calm and composed as ever.

“It’s divine power. The warriors of the great plains place restrictions on themselves and, in exchange, are granted power.”

It was the power granted by Urgan, the God of Ascension, whom the allied tribes worshipped.

Those who served him received power by imposing a form of self-restriction.

“They’re more than worthy opponents for proving the value Your Majesty spoke of.”

As she said this, pure white aura began to gather around Noel’s chest, swirling outward.

Aiden was familiar with this sight. He had seen firsthand just how powerful it could be, having used it himself.

‘Is she really going to be okay?’

But despite that, worry crept into his thoughts.

The pressure emanating from the warriors before them was overwhelming. Even though she could handle aura, facing warriors of this caliber, especially one against many, was a completely different matter.

However, as if to dismiss his concerns, Noel calmly stepped forward, pushing Aiden back behind her.

And as if that was a signal, the warriors of the allied tribes let out a deafening war cry that made the air tremble as they charged toward them.

The sight of their charge was enough to make one’s legs feel weak.

Though they were human, it felt as if a massive vehicle was speeding toward them at full force.

And yet, despite that.

The person standing in front of them remained as calm as ever.

“Shall I give you a little demonstration?”

With that, the pure white aura enveloping Noel’s chest began to surge and spread across her entire body.

“-Rhythm (律).”

Noel’s lips moved reverently as she spoke the word.

“I swear.”

It was a vow offered directly to the gods, one of the methods of communication with the divine that heightened her abilities. It was the primary prayer offered to the empire’s deity, Karva.

“To achieve victory in battle.”

The heavenly authority responded to her vow, and the pure white aura around her arms grew even more intense, far stronger than before.

“When this divine power is imbued into something tangible, it becomes even more precise. While it’s effective in the body, it’s more efficient when channeled into a weapon.”

“Ah, I see.”

“Of course.”

Noel calmly took a stance, similar to the one Aiden had used a few times before—a simple straight punch.

However, unlike his, her movements were far more refined and practiced.

“When you can handle pure white aura, you can at least do this with your bare hands.”

It was as if her entire body became a launchpad for a missile, with her fist acting as the projectile.

From her legs to her waist, then up through her back, and finally her arm, her entire body moved in perfect synchronization, focusing all that power into the tip of her fist.

And.

The pure white aura, the most refined of all auras, which, due to its purity, produced explosive power unmatched by any other supernatural ability, erupted with incredible force.

—!!

—-!!!!

Aiden’s mouth dropped open in shock.

It was as if the entire area in front of them had been pushed back all at once.

The air itself seemed to rip apart. The barrier surrounding the stage crackled as it shook, and screams erupted from the audience.

In an instant, it was as if a storm had swept through, causing everything around the arena to flutter wildly.

She hadn’t even directly hit the warriors. It was just the shockwave from the end of her punch, yet the allied warriors, who had been charging forward with terrifying force, were sent flying across the arena, screaming.

Like a group of runaway trucks, these superhuman warriors, charging with destructive power, had all been blown away by the mere shockwave of a single punch.

Aiden stared blankly at Noel.

Is she really human…?

“Do you understand a little now?”

Unfortunately.

Even after performing such a feat, Noel turned to him with a completely expressionless face, asking a question that only left him more bewildered.

It seemed like this was really nothing at all to her…

‘I don’t understand?’

What exactly was he supposed to realize from that?

One thing was abundantly clear: Noel and Aiden were fundamentally different from the start.

“If you can replicate something like this, I think it should be more than enough to prove the ‘value’ His Majesty was referring to.”

“Huh?”

“If you can use pure white aura, this technique is nothing special. You know better than anyone the potential that ‘color’ holds. This time, I only want you to show a fragment of it.”

‘Am I supposed to copy what she just did? Me, Aiden?’

Before he could fully grasp the dizzying feeling, the warriors of the allied tribes in front of him were already getting back on their feet.

Since they had only been knocked back, it was natural that they wouldn’t have sustained any serious injuries, so it made sense that they would rise again.

The unfortunate thing was that the warriors clearly found what had just happened humiliating.

Their faces were flushed with anger, and veins bulged on their foreheads, indicating just how enraged they were.

They likely thought that Noel was toying with them.

And unlike before, Noel didn’t seem inclined to stop them as they charged again.

‘…This is my fate.’

Aiden barely managed to hold on to his spinning thoughts and came to that conclusion.

‘Still, I have to do what I need to do…’

From the moment he got involved in this fake marriage with her, he had already prepared himself to face dangerous situations of one kind or another.

That’s why he had even told the emperor he would step forward.

He wasn’t confident he could replicate what Noel had just done, but there was one thing he could rely on.

He quickly pulled up his status window.

What he intended to use was Noel’s skill copy, which he had one use of left.

-System Message

▶ Copying ‘Aura Reinforcement: Consecration.’

The same method of aura manipulation that Noel had just used.

The moment he learned the skill, the knowledge of how to use it naturally flowed into his mind, as if someone was writing instructions directly into his brain.

“律 (Rhythm). I swear.”

Facing the charging warriors head-on, aura began to seep out from around Aiden’s body.

He noticed Noel, standing beside him, nod slightly, as if she had expected him to pull it off.

It seemed all he had to do was swing the aura in the same way Noel had, and everything would go smoothly.

There didn’t appear to be any room for things to go wrong—at least, Noel didn’t seem to think so.

Aiden himself was thinking something slightly different, though.

He turned his head and looked around.

He looked at Noel.

He also took in the sight of the emperor and the chieftain watching from the audience.

If things went well, there would be a clear reaction from them.

And if things didn’t go well?

‘…I’ll figure it out when the time comes.’

After all, this was the only option he had at the moment.

He parted his lips to complete the consecration.

With that simple act, pure white aura surged from his chest, spreading through his body. The pressure weighed heavily on him, binding him.

Even though it was a one-way message from him to the heavens, it was immediately clear that the being on the other end was a truly divine presence.

It felt as if a constant whisper urged him to speak his desire, to offer his vow.

But instead of speaking further,

Aiden was preparing to do something a little different.

‘Please, let this work…’

With that prayer-like thought, the divine power began to rise from his body.

Colorless flames—the same supernatural ability he had taken from the princess of the Holy Empire, whom he had never even met.

He saw Noel’s face turn pale beside him.

“That… divine power? How on earth do you…?”

But before she could even finish her sentence, he pushed the divine power into the pure white aura emanating from his chest.

The colorless flames, rising from his feet, clashed fiercely with the aura.

At first, it was like they were probing each other, but soon the two energies began to blend, as if melting into one another.

“…Aiden?”

And from the side, Noel’s voice came out, sounding as if she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

Her face had gone pale, and her trembling eyes conveyed just how surreal the scene before her was.

The power of a god.

Had merged.

Two domains that should never have mixed had fused together.

And as this phenomenon unfolded, a message appeared before Aiden’s eyes.

<System Message>

[Divine power cleanses the backlash of consecration. Aura and divine power have merged!]

!! System Message !!

[You are now using two supernatural abilities simultaneously.]

[<Unique Trait: Omnipotence> has been unlocked.]

Aiden scanned these messages with a deep breath.

Since these notifications appeared, it seemed his gamble had worked.

-Skill Info

■ Omnipotence [Locked]

The skill is locked. Unlock the first stage by using two or more supernatural abilities simultaneously.

‘…This.’

He had been waiting for a chance to use this ability ever since he saw it.

The only issue now was how powerful the combination would be.

[<Unique Trait: Omnipotence> has developed new effects from combining the abilities!]

[You have combined <Pure White Heart> and <First Oath> to develop <Flame of the Guardian>!]

…Fortunately.

It seemed he didn’t need to worry much about that part.

The divine power handled by the royals of the Holy Empire took the form of colorless flames.

As expected of a power granted by the god of purification, Seor, it was the purest form of energy, untouched by anything.

And now.

Just as the pure white aura and those flames had merged, a ‘white divine power’ spread around Aiden.

The divine flames, now influenced by another supernatural power, had gained a ‘color.’

The flames burned so intensely that the surrounding air seemed to form a vacuum, making the scene look as if someone had crumpled up the scenery like paper.

“…”

Aiden blinked, dazed.

‘…This looks more dangerous than I expected.’

And yet, in the midst of this duel, it was clear that no one else seemed to be paying attention to what had just unfolded.

Noel, the allied warriors, and even Dunadan, who was overseeing the match.

The moment the flames rose, no one moved.

!

And in the next instant.

The massive pillar of flames that surged around Aiden collided with the dome surrounding the stage.

And completely shattered the defensive barrier that Noel had set up.

The next few days passed by in a blur.

All Aiden did was try to gauge how things were moving within the military headquarters, but surprisingly, his surroundings were eerily quiet.

He fully expected to be summoned again and interrogated like before, but there was no reaction, almost to the point where it felt strange.

However, there was one noticeable change compared to before.

Aiden stole glances at Noel, who was working expressionlessly in front of him.

Officially, he was invited here to be taken care of after going through two unfortunate incidents in a short period.

But the real problem was that he had to spend most of his day in this person’s office.

‘I feel like I’m being watched.’

It was to the extent that Noel kept him so close by that Aiden couldn’t help but feel suffocated.

Despite being incredibly busy, it was as if Noel was constantly watching his every move.

It wasn’t like Aiden was restricted in his daily life, but it was uncomfortable enough to make him feel like he was developing an ulcer.

“Excuse me.”

“Lady Noel.”

“When will my guard be assigned?”

He remembered Stella telling him to wait since they were going to assign someone to him.

It was a way of saying that he would pass on any needs to the guard, so that he could finally be left alone. However, Noel’s calm reply was still as merciless as ever.

“I understand you’re indirectly saying I’m making you uncomfortable.”

“No, you don’t have to point it out so directly….”

“Aiden, your guard will probably take some time to be selected.”

“What?”

“There’s no one who meets the criteria at the moment. We’re searching.”

Could that be true?

A guard was essentially like a common adjutant, wasn’t it? It seemed unlikely there wouldn’t be someone appropriate for the job within the capital.

“No, they must not be ordinary. Whoever is assigned to you has to be special.”

“With the abilities you’ve shown, we can’t just attach anyone. The person who will be with you most of the day needs to meet a certain standard.”

It was unnecessary overvaluation. If they were just an average person, that would be more than enough.

Lately, Aiden felt like he had been encountering too many unusual people.

“You can expect it. I’ll assign someone truly satisfactory in various ways.”

Aiden felt like his ulcer was only going to get worse.

With a brief frown, Aiden quickly came up with another excuse.

“If you keep spending time with an outsider while working, rumors might not be good—”

“It won’t seem strange to others.”

With those words, Noel smiled sweetly after a slight pause.

“We’re soon to be married, aren’t we?”

Noel’s smile was flawless and pure, but Aiden’s face turned pale upon hearing that.

“Soon to be married.”

Formally, that was true.

Though Noel might not care, the mere thought of it made Aiden feel like he was having a fit every time.

Considering all the things he had gone through in just a few days since getting involved with her, his reaction wasn’t entirely unjustified.

‘What a mess my life has become.’

After causing so much trouble, you’d think the marriage would be reconsidered, but her determination was unusually firm.

And the fact that she mentioned it again seemed like a subtle reminder not to even think about escaping from the surveillance he was currently under.

In that case, it was the perfect timing for Aiden to find something to do to distract himself from the uncomfortable atmosphere.

While he didn’t have any assigned tasks, there was certainly information he needed to organize.

Aiden furrowed his brow as he rifled through the documents spread across the desk.

While Noel handled her duties, Aiden at least had time to investigate the materials he wanted.

‘Why can’t I find it?’

The fact that none of the information he was looking for was there was a major issue, to say the least.

Given the importance of what he was searching for, it wasn’t just a “major issue”; it could very well be a prelude to a catastrophe.

The information related to the “main character”—

The central figure of the main scenario, the savior of this world, was missing.

Aiden still desperately wanted to deviate from the main scenario and return to an ordinary life, and the existence of a “fast track” to that was supposed to be through the protagonist.

‘Could it really… not be here?’

If the protagonist was missing, it didn’t just mean Aiden couldn’t return to his peaceful life.

It meant that—

‘If they’re not around, who’s going to save the world?’

The protagonist, the savior of this world.

Aiden clutched his aching head as he continued to think.

The main scenario, intricately tangled like a ball of yarn, ultimately revolved around that person.

Aiden reuniting with his family and living in peace was part of a future plan based on the assumption that the protagonist would fulfill their role.

‘I must have missed it.‘

Of course, it’s too early to conclude that the protagonist is completely absent from this world. He still didn’t have nearly enough information to make such a claim.

However, if the protagonist really didn’t exist…

Aiden would also need to make a decision accordingly.

Suppressing the chilling thought, he summoned the system window before his eyes.

The protagonist aside, there was something else he needed to check immediately.

<Copied Skill>

Vow of the First Pilgrim

※Unique – Only this character possesses this skill!

This is a vow imitating the oath made by the first pilgrim to the God of Purification. It excels in firepower, and through the <Rite of Vow>, the user can additionally manifest their own unique trait with the God of Purification.

The unique trait has not been unlocked since the rite has not been performed.

Aiden slowly read through the lines.

‘Even if I don’t understand everything… The high firepower would be helpful in various situations.’

Compared to Noel’s <Heart of Purity>, the output was undoubtedly lower, but unlike energy without specific attributes, the divine power had an unmistakably powerful quality.

‘Other than that… I’m not sure what the ‘Rite of Vow’ refers to, but it seems like some grand ceremony one might only conduct in the Holy Kingdom. Not something I need to worry about right now.’

Aiden’s face slightly twisted as he continued to scroll down the system window.

There was no real reason to react like this based on what he had seen so far.

After all, considering Noel’s case, it was better to be informed in advance about abilities that might not manifest.

The problem was this.

At the very bottom of the window were new, completely unfamiliar entries.

—Skill Info

Omnipotence [Locked]

The skill is locked. Unlock the first stage by simultaneously using two or more abilities.

Origin [Locked]

The skill is locked.

‘What on earth is this?’

He had no memory of acquiring such skills, yet the information was locked, making it inaccessible.

‘The best outcome would be never needing to use these.’

Aiden thought with a bitter smile.

If the time came to use these abilities, it would likely mean he was caught up in another desperate situation.

Unfortunately, the odds of that happening didn’t seem low.

He still desperately wanted to return to the ordinary life of a regular person.

At this time of day, shouldn’t he be enjoying a peaceful dinner with his father and younger sister?

‘I wonder what Dad and Sisella are doing… They must be worried sick after I disappeared, leaving only a letter behind.’

As those thoughts crossed his mind, Aiden glanced at Noel, who was absorbed in her work.

In truth, if he thought about it, his time with his family was being taken away because of that woman.

“Aiden.”

“Yes?”

The sudden voice almost caught him off guard, but he managed to respond somehow.

Noel gave him a brief, puzzled look before continuing in her usual calm tone.

“We’re going to the Imperial Palace tomorrow.”

He had heard this before.

It was part of the schedule Stella had mentioned earlier, where they had to report directly to the emperor about the marriage arrangement between him and Noel.

“Aren’t there many things I need to be mindful of when going to the palace? I haven’t received any formal training on etiquette.”

His question came from the nervousness lingering from his recent experience of being nitpicked for protocol violations, but Noel answered in a casual voice.

“You don’t have to worry too much about etiquette. There are other things you should be cautious of, though.”

“What do you mean…?”

Taking a sip from her teacup, Noel rested her chin on her hand and continued with a smile still on her face.

“The contract for this ‘fake marriage’ lasts one year. Once it’s over, I’ll compensate you generously, so please bear with me until then.”

“What?”

“I understand it must be uncomfortable being entangled with someone like me, but we’ll have to act a bit closer than usual in official settings. I’m asking for your understanding in advance.”

What was there to understand?

Wasn’t it absurd to demand cooperation now, after abducting him without any negotiation in the first place?

“What I mean is, if I suddenly initiate physical contact or act overly friendly, I hope you’ll bear with it. I know it won’t be easy.”

Aiden blinked quietly, listening to Noel’s composed explanation.

There was something odd about the way she spoke.

It didn’t sound like a joke; it felt like she genuinely believed her own value was low.

‘Is her self-esteem… low?’

That didn’t make sense at all.

She was the empire’s most powerful knight, admired by countless men, and held a special place even in the emperor’s regard.

The following words were also in that context, not making much sense.

“I don’t think you’re the type to say such things.”

When Aiden scratched his cheek and gave a vague response, Noel, who had been silent for a moment, stared at him.

“Thank you.”

The weak voice returned with a smile.

But the smile somehow gave a strong impression that it was more of a customary response than one of real joy.

It’s a characteristic often seen in people with low self-esteem.

“……”

Aiden tilted his head slightly.

This person.

She genuinely believes that marrying someone like her would be a burden on the other party.

He didn’t know why.

“To be honest, I’ve never had any romantic experience.”

As Noel’s voice continued, it grew quieter and quieter.

Her face flushed redder as well.

She coughed and barely managed to continue.

“I don’t really know where the proper boundaries are. So, I might end up behaving inappropriately… that’s what I’m saying.”

That’s the reason?

…That’s unexpected.

When he thought about it, someone like her would easily have men lining up for her.

From the start, the fact that she didn’t look for a fake marriage partner nearby and instead kidnapped Aiden out of nowhere is odd when you think about it.

“Oh, and one more thing.”

Noel added immediately.

“When we enter the imperial palace, don’t say anything. Make sure you don’t stand out.”

At Noel’s rare serious warning, Aiden’s mouth dropped slightly open.

“…Pardon?”

“It’s best if you stay out of ‘his’ awareness as much as possible. Otherwise…”

Noel fell silent.

In Aiden’s eyes, it seemed like she was carefully choosing a word that wouldn’t be too disrespectful when referring to ‘him,’ though he didn’t know who ‘he’ was.

“If you get tangled up with him, it’ll be very exhausting for you.”

Of course, despite her efforts, the words that came out gave off an ominous feeling.

***

“Why does he look so annoyingly handsome? Was that always your type?”

Despite the terrifying title of ‘Emperor,’ the man smoking a cigarette in front of him seemed more like a laid-back neighbor than anything else.

Age-wise, he looked only a few years older than Aiden, with sharp, striking features.

And, fitting with that first impression, the current situation also felt a bit strange for someone called an emperor.

‘The reason we don’t have to worry about formalities…’

It must be because they’re having a direct meeting with the emperor without any complicated procedures.

Even though the Pope of the Holy Empire, a close ally of the emperor, was often called eccentric among world leaders, from this alone, it seems that the emperor of the empire isn’t far behind.

“Yeah, sure.”

And perhaps because serving such a quirky ruler was stressful, Noel replied with a grumpy face.

Considering how she always acted politely regardless of rank, this was a shocking sight.

Even more shocking was that the emperor didn’t bat an eye at such an attitude.

“Kid, didn’t I always tell you that a sturdy man is the best? What kind of marriage are you planning with this pretty boy—”

“I don’t think this is an issue for Your Majesty to interfere with. Isn’t it my husband that I chose?”

“Well, well, listen to how you’re talking to the emperor now.”

“You were the one who picked a fight with me first—”

And the level of conversation between the two was even more astonishing.

It was like a teenage girl bringing her boyfriend home for the first time and her older brother disapproving of him.

There was nothing about this that resembled a conversation between the empire’s top soldier and its emperor, and judging by their familiarity, this was clearly not their first childish exchange.

Still, two things were clear from the situation.

The Lionheart and the Emperor were much, much closer than widely known.

Such an informal interaction doesn’t develop overnight.

There must have been a long-standing relationship between them.

And.

“Which means, I can’t allow this marriage decision in its current state.”

Despite their closeness, the emperor was still strongly opposed to Noel’s marriage.

“Noel.”

“…Yes.”

At the much more solemn voice, Noel responded seriously, dropping her grumpy tone.

“You’re not ignorant of the internal affairs of the empire, are you?

The noble society is a snake pit, full of those looking out for their own interests.

“Everyone is watching your movements closely, as you have considerable public support, and even if I remain still, other factions will not.”

“Whoever I marry will tip the scales, Your Majesty. The best-case scenario is a civil war, and in the worst case, it could escalate into another allied war. Wouldn’t it be more reasonable to bring in a third party?”

“It’s just a temporary fix. Everyone knows that turning a blind eye won’t fool anyone. Even my own son won’t stay quiet.”

After that, Aiden overheard a long conversation that he couldn’t understand.

Talk about the chaotic state of the noble society after the war, how the imperial authority had weakened to the point that they could no longer control them, and so on, and so on. Difficult discussions among the high-ranking people.

The only thing that remained in his memory was the emperor’s attitude when he mentioned the prince.

It was as if he were addressing a stranger, nothing more.

It wasn’t just that their relationship was bad; it felt like they were sworn enemies.

Aiden’s eyebrows furrowed slightly.

‘The family doesn’t get along?’

—This is.

It feels slightly different from the ‘original’ story he knows.

In his memory, the prince was definitely a noble character.

A man almost without flaws in terms of personality.

He didn’t recall the prince being someone who would have a falling out with his father.

“Then there’s only one solution left.”

As he mulled over his thoughts, a sentence suddenly caught his attention.

“In the end, the biggest issue is that others are challenging the suitability of this guy as your husband. Once they acknowledge that you two are a perfect match, most, if not all, of the surface-level complaints will fade away.”

“…I don’t want to burden Mr. Aiden any more, but isn’t it strange to dig this deeply into my personal matters in the first place?”

“What you’re saying is reasonable, but politics is inherently a trash heap.”

As the back-and-forth argument continued, Aiden’s expression became increasingly serious.

From what he could hear, His Majesty the Emperor clearly maintained a very negative stance on this engagement.

And from Aiden’s point of view, that wasn’t particularly good news either.

‘If the marriage falls through…’

If the fake marriage collapses, it’s a ‘failed quest.’

That’s a situation Aiden absolutely wants to avoid.

Thus, the course of action he must take now is clear.

“I’ll do it.”

Both the emperor and Noel turned their gazes toward him.

“I’ll do it. If proving my worth is what it takes to make this engagement happen.”

At Aiden’s words, silence descended around them.

Noel, in particular, widened her eyes.

Her expression clearly showed that she hadn’t expected Aiden to take the initiative.

Then.

“You’ve got some spirit.”

A smile spread across the emperor’s face as he tapped his pipe against the ashtray.

That smile resembled that of a mischievous child who had just come up with a fun idea.

“So you’re really going to do it?”

—If you get tangled up, it’ll be incredibly exhausting.

The words Noel had said the other day flashed through his mind.

“Your Majesty, isn’t this too dangerous—”

Noel interjected in a voice laced with tension.

Her face had paled slightly, as if she had endured this kind of expression from the emperor more than once.

And, as naturally as ever, the emperor ignored her words and turned his head toward Aiden.

“You, Aiden, was it?”

Without waiting for a response, the emperor continued.

“Let’s prove how well you two get along as a couple.”

“…I beg your pardon, but what exactly do you mean—”

“In a situation like this, nothing persuades the imperial nobles better than combat prowess. Especially in these chaotic times.”

“Fight together, you two.”

The emperor cut off Aiden’s reply with a grin.

“There just so happens to be a suitable opponent.”

Delman, known as Caliban’s Master Knight and the third of the five Great Swords, was in a very good mood. This was because, on this recent expedition, he had killed Khlkan, one of the eight chiefs, and rumored to be quite strong among them. Of course, the method he used to kill Khlkan was something that neither Caliban nor the barbarians would ever acknowledge. He had challenged Khlkan to a duel, then, when Khlkan came out alone, Delman used hidden soldiers, various traps, and poison to kill him.

Even though Caliban and the barbarians were at war, they always respected each other’s honor in battle, making Delman’s actions outrageously dishonorable. However, instead of feeling guilty for his deceit, Delman smiled with the thought that he no longer had to give up his third position to Deus, one of the newly entered five swords. With that thought, he slaughtered all the barbarians who were present at the scene, leaving no one alive.

This would have been impossible for him alone, but the numerous soldiers he had stationed outside, so they wouldn’t witness the duel, made it achievable. Delman had successfully earned merit, and now all that was left was to return and report his accomplishments. As he made his way back to one of Caliban’s forward bases, he saw something that stopped him.

He saw it.

A man with red hair matching the symbolic power of fire stood with a tense expression. He and his Red Flame knights were staring at the base, or what used to be the base. The place had become a wasteland. The gray earth was smeared with red blood, ruins lay scattered, and thousands of corpses littered the ground as if they were nothing. However, what drew all their attention wasn’t the ruins but the man standing in the middle of it all.

Wearing the barbarian’s signature leather clothing, he stood proudly at the center of the ruined base. As Delman turned to look at him, the man also turned his gaze towards Delman and started walking toward him. At a glance, it seemed like the man was inviting his own death, as Delman had not only a hundred knights but also countless soldiers by his side. No matter how strong this barbarian chieftain was, he couldn’t handle such a large force alone.

Yet, despite recognizing the overwhelming odds, Delman’s expression was filled with tension. The first reason was the state of the base, now reduced to ruins, and the second was the aura.

Although Delman had committed a dishonorable act, he was still a sword master, someone who could cut off a mountain peak with a single slash and claim the lives of dozens of barbarians with one stroke. And as such, he could clearly sense the extraordinary aura emanating from this man.

And then…

“Are you Delman?”

The man’s voice echoed, a voice that didn’t sound human, and just hearing it for a moment shook Delman to his core. Delman quickly regained his composure and instinctively raised his aura blade as he responded:

“Who are you?”

“Then answer me, Delman. Why did you desecrate the sacred and honorable duel?”

“What?”

“Answer me. Why did you sully the great and holy duel, the honorable fight between two warriors?”

“……”

“Speak.”

Hearing the barbarian’s words, Delman realized that the man was talking about his duel with Khlkan, and he replied:

“Ha, this is a battlefield. Isn’t it foolish to believe in a duel in such a place?”

The barbarian stared at Delman, unfazed, and spoke again:

“How dare you speak of the great duel like that.”

His voice was filled with clear displeasure.

“I already told you, this is a battlefield.”

“This is your last chance, human, a warrior of considerable strength. Fight me in a duel. If you win, I will let you go.”

At the barbarian’s offer of a last chance, Delman did not respond—he just…

“Everyone, prepare for battle,” he commanded the knights.

As soon as his order was given, the knights and soldiers swiftly drew their weapons in perfect unison.

The knights of the Red Flame, who had fought alongside Delman in numerous battles in the northern war and led them to victory time and time again, all wore resolute expressions as they drew their swords and deployed their auras.

Watching this scene, the barbarian muttered, as if in lamentation and disdain,

“Do knights truly possess no honor?”

With that muttering,

Creak~ Creak~

the surrounding corpses began to rise.

“W-what is this!”

The knights were startled by the sudden change, but the phenomenon continued regardless of their emotions.

A knight with his head split in half.

A soldier with half of his body blown away.

A rider with his upper torso severed.

They slowly began to awaken.

And then—

“It hurts, it hurts, it hurts, it hurts!”

“Kill me, kill me, please, I beg you…”

The screams of the dead filled the gray earth.

“You mortals, without even the honor to your name, are unnecessary in this world.”

That presence vanished.

“!?”

Even Delman, who had stepped into the realm of a superhuman, couldn’t keep up with the speed.

But then…

“However—”

Delman turned his gaze to the voice that had suddenly appeared, and the barbarian had already slammed his hand into the ground.

Boom!

The earth exploded instantly, rocks and debris shot into the sky, and simultaneously, the soldiers and knights who had been standing ready were all hurled into the air.

And with just one swing of the barbarian’s foot through the air—

Crack!

The soldiers and knights flying through the sky were struck by the debris, their bodies turning into mere chunks of flesh.

Without even time to scream, their remains splattered across the ground, creating countless red flowers of blood.

“!”

As Delman belatedly tried to swing his sword, he realized in that moment…

His arm was gone.

“Aaaargh!”

Delman’s scream echoed, and the soldiers who hadn’t yet grasped the situation finally understood what had happened.

In just an instant, the Master Knight and most of his knightly order had been annihilated.

Panic spread like a plague among the soldiers, robbing them of their will.

“Ah, aahhh!”

The terror rooted in their hearts quickly spread, leaving them paralyzed.

In the chaos of the massacre, Delman, who had lost his arm, looked at the barbarian in disbelief.

“Who… who are you?”

The barbarian, no—the god of all barbarians and the father of duels, Ultultus, crushed Delman’s internal organs with his rough hands, finishing his task.

He looked down at Delman, who lay beneath his hand.

A moment later—

“It hurts, it hurts, it hurts, it hurts!”

Though his internal organs were completely shattered, Delman rose again, spewing blood across the gray snowfield and screaming in agony like the others.

Satisfied, Ultultus grinned as he spoke:

“All you gathered barbarians,”

He turned his gaze to the surviving soldiers, who were frozen in terror.

“Prove yourselves through a duel.”

And then,

“Prove that you are not savages.”

He offered them a duel,

“If you do, I shall grant you an honorable death.”

On the bloodstained colosseum made of the dead…

***

Master Knight and disciple of the Fourth Sword, Vilan, couldn’t understand the current situation.

The reason he had come here today was simply to help out his friend, Carmine, who was also a very valuable supplier, by taking care of a certain noble from the Kingdom of Asteria.

Of course, given that the six kingdoms were united under the Union Kingdom, normally, even if the noble was from another country, he should have shown some level of courtesy.

A misstep could quickly turn into an international issue.

However, the reason Vilan had accepted Carmine’s request without hesitation wasn’t just because of the item Carmine had offered. After considering the circumstances, Vilan thought there was no chance the situation would escalate.

There were three reasons for his judgment.

The first was that, among the six kingdoms in the Union, Caliban, which constantly fended off the barbarians from the north, held the most influence.

The second was that rumors about Count Palatio had yet to spread again, meaning his reputation remained that of a reckless noble who had only become a count by sheer luck, and he had no connections in Caliban.

The third was that, even if the situation did go wrong, Vilan believed that his master, Fiola, who stood at the pinnacle of Caliban, would somehow smooth things over.

Although not as gifted as Deus, Vilan was talented with the sword and had always been under his master’s protection.

With these three reasons in mind, Vilan thought there would be no harm to himself in dealing with Count Palatio, and, truthfully, his judgment wasn’t wrong.

However, there was one thing Vilan didn’t know.

And that was—

Crack!

“Ugh!”

Count Palatio was, in fact, a benefactor to Deus Macallian, a Master Knight currently hailed as a hero in Caliban.

“Guh…!”

Deus had earned the nickname “The Swordless” after defeating Kurga of the Snowfields, one of the eight chieftains, in a duel.

“Aagh!”

Vilan, who was slammed into a tree, groaned with a fearful and defiant expression as he tried to speak—

“W-wait! Lord Deus—!”

—but he couldn’t finish.

Deus’s foot struck his stomach before Vilan could open his mouth.

The knights of Yuzon, who had just been showing their respect, instinctively tried to draw their swords at the sight, but—

“The moment you draw your swords, I leave the rest to your imagination.”

“…!”

Just by turning his gaze and saying those words, the knights swallowed their breaths in silence, and then the one-sided beating began.

Watching this, Alon, who stood with an outwardly expressionless face as Deus mercilessly pummeled Vilan, but inwardly, he was filled with a deep, satisfied smile.

“You’ve grown up so well…!”

Alon gazed at Deus as if he were a father watching his son grow up splendidly.

…Not that any father would feel proud watching his son ruthlessly beat someone else, but Alon felt something akin to paternal pride in that moment.

Actually, it was more than that—he even felt a strange sense of gratitude.

Alon had been thinking all the way to Caliban that Deus likely wouldn’t be too fond of him.

Perhaps Deus might tolerate him, but Alon had thought it would stop there, never expecting any deeper emotion.

After all, Alon had never had a personal conversation with Deus, and more importantly, Deus had never written him a single letter.

So, when Deus referred to him as his benefactor earlier, Alon felt as if all the effort he had put into raising Deus had finally been rewarded, and a pleased smile spread across his face.

“He hits well.”

“Indeed.”

Watching Deus break Vilan apart in real-time, Alon wore a calm smile, and after about three minutes, he felt as if a weight had been lifted from his heart.

Alon was deeply grateful to Deus for going this far.

But five minutes later.

“Count.”

“What?”

“Isn’t he going to die?”

Alon, sensing something was wrong, watched Deus mercilessly beat Vilan, who was pathetically clinging to his legs, crying and begging for forgiveness.

“No way. Would he?”

“Well, yeah…”

Even so, Alon kept thinking, “Surely he wouldn’t kill him?” as he observed Deus’s beating for another five minutes.

After confirming that Vilan’s face was now so disfigured that it no longer resembled the cunning expression it had shown just ten minutes earlier, Alon broke into a cold sweat and suddenly remembered.

The Deus standing before him—

‘Oh…?’

—was one of the Five Great Sins.

Of course, that didn’t mean the feeling of gratitude had disappeared.

It hadn’t disappeared, but—

‘It’s nice that he went this far for me, but…’

Alon watched as Deus, leaving the half-crippled Vilan behind, walked towards him.

“I’m at your service.”

Bowing his head as if it were the most natural thing in the world, Alon noticed the soldiers and knights murmuring at the scene.

“Uh,” Alon thought, glancing at the blood-soaked Vilan.

‘Isn’t this a bit… excessive?’

[Millennium Ginseng Infused with Magic (千年何首乌)]

[A precious herb cultivated over a thousand years, now imbued with the magic of the dungeon.]

[When consumed, significantly increases magic power in inverse proportion to the magic power already possessed.]

[When consumed, slightly increases resistance and affinity to all elements.]

[When consumed, increases all health-related attributes.]

[When consumed, dispels one random debuff currently held.]

[When consumed, weakens all current illnesses, and enhances the body’s strength; if consumed by a body-strengthening ability holder, their ability level increases.]

The array of effects is overwhelming.

Just reading the description took quite a while.

“Millennium Ginseng…….”

Who would have thought I’d find this here.

Memories of completing a quest where I had to submit magic-infused Millennium Ginseng after encountering a slime came flooding back.

It seemed I had a fated connection with Millennium Ginseng.

“Gulp.”

At some point, Ara was beside me, drooling as she looked at the Millennium Ginseng.

She clutched the full-body armor of Mountain King that I had given her tightly.

“How is it? Do you like the gift?”

“It’s too much for me.”

“Huh. As I said before, it’s not an excessive gift at all. I’m more regretful that I couldn’t give you more! I think I’ll have to go around the dungeon myself to find more items worthy of you.”

“Oh, no, there’s no need for that….”

Both gifts were incredibly valuable.

Their worth was immeasurable.

And no matter how precious an item is, it’s meaningless if I can’t use it.

But these two items were something I could use.

‘Legendary equipment items, and this Millennium Ginseng…Perhaps…’

I already had a quest to submit an elixir I cultivated myself for my awakening, so I thought I’d try cultivating this Millennium Ginseng.

Of course, cultivating a Millennium Ginseng wouldn’t yield another Millennium Ginseng.

It would just be regular Millennium Ginseng.

But even so, if I succeeded in cultivating it, it would certainly not be ordinary Millennium Ginseng.

After all, it’s a magic-infused Millennium Ginseng!

“Me too!”

“You want to watch?”

“Yeah!”

Ara looked dangerously eager, but she wasn’t a thoughtless child.

As I handed over the wooden box, Ara carefully accepted it and her eyes sparkled with admiration.

“Wow!”

“Ara knows the value of precious things.”

“It smells delicious!”

A delicious smell?

I could sense a refreshing and rich herbal scent, but it didn’t seem delicious to me.

Well, if Ara said so, it must be true.

As I admired the gift, constantly exclaiming in awe, I realized I had been too engrossed and looked around.

Smile.

My worry seemed unfounded as Ryu Wang-jin, Ryu Cheon, and Yu Bihong were all watching Ara and me with satisfied expressions.

“Your reactions are amusing.”

Yu Bihong said playfully as our eyes met.

I awkwardly smiled, thinking I might have seemed too materialistic.

“We’re glad you like it so much. Would you like to stay a little longer?”

“Um…”

“I’m sorry, but I have urgent business to attend to.”

“We wouldn’t want to trouble you. If you reconsider, please come back and visit us again.”

“Oh, then I’ll make sure to visit next time.”

“Uh…”

I needed to return now to collect the World Tree’s dew.

Although Frey and the Alfheims would take care of it, I wanted to be there just in case.

Despite my refusal, Ryu Wang-jin and Ryu Cheon smiled with satisfaction.

Ryu Cheon, in particular, seemed half-regretful and half-joyful, as if sensing it was time to part with Ara.

“Guild Master, if you ever visit Korea, please let me know.”

“Sure!”

With a warm atmosphere, we finished opening the gifts.

Ryu Wang-jin then stood up, saying he had other commitments and apologized for not being able to see us off on our way back to Korea.

“Until next time, my friend Sonogong!”

“Yes! See you again, Ara!”

She no longer mispronounced Sonogong’s name as we parted.

We were then escorted back to the airport by Ryu Cheon and Yu Bihong.

“Please board our private jet for your return.”

“Thank you. I’ll gladly accept your hospitality.”

We had some time before takeoff, so we chatted for a while inside the plane.

I talked with Yu Bihong, and Ara paired up with Ryu Cheon for conversation.

“Mr. Kyu-seong’s items are showing remarkable effects. It seems that the young lady and I will visit Korea often.”

“Oh, really?”

“Yes, it’s much more efficient for us to go and consume the items directly in Korea than to deliver them to China.

Although our schedule is busy, we have prioritized visiting Korea.”

“I hope I’m not making you too busy with the frequent visits.”

“No, no. You don’t need to feel sorry or burdened. We are more concerned about bothering you too much with our frequent visits.”

As I was deep in conversation with Yu Bihong, Ryu Cheon suddenly interrupted.

“Mr. Kyu-seong.”

“Yes, Ms. Ryu Cheon.”

“May I dress Ara in the outfit now?”

Outfit? What outfit?

As I tilted my head in confusion, Ara held out the tiger pajamas, or rather, Mountain King’s full-body armor.

“I want to try it on now!”

“Ah! You meant that outfit?”

To me, it felt more like a legendary item than just clothing, so I was briefly confused.

I was curious anyway.

How much stronger would Ara become if she wore that legendary item, even though she was already quite powerful?

Of course, Ara and Ryu Cheon seemed more interested in the appearance of the item than its effects.

“Alright, let’s try it on. We should show the gift to the ones who gave it.”

“Yay!”

Ara expressed her joy by dancing excitedly.

Then I noticed Ryu Cheon hesitating, her hands trembling as she debated whether to hug Ara.

Dressing her was simple.

There was no need to change; she just had to put on the tiger pajamas, or rather, Mountain King’s full-body armor over her current clothes.

Since the current size of the armor was suitable for an adult male, Ara’s body fit in easily.

Whoosh!

As Ara slipped into the outfit, Mountain King’s full-body armor gradually adjusted its size until it fit perfectly.

“Wow, that’s amazing.”

It looked odd at first, but it was indeed a unique item.

Although there were many more amazing things, seeing the size change before my eyes felt unusual.

“How do you like it?”

“Wow, it fits perfectly! It suits you better than I thought!”

Ara struck her signature pose with her hands on her hips and proudly lifted her head.

Wearing the tiger pajamas, she couldn’t have looked cuter.

Click! Click!

Ryu Cheon, speechless, simply took photos and videos of Ara in a trance.

Seeing her reminded me strangely of Seon-ah, which was a bit unsettling.

“It suits her well.”

“Where are you looking?”

Ara stood on tiptoe to see herself in the mirror inside the airplane. It wasn’t a full-length mirror but one installed at the height of an adult’s upper body, making her struggle adorably, making one feel the urge to tease her.

“Up we go!”

“Oh, oh!”

As I lifted Ara’s torso, she was reflected in the mirror, dressed in cute tiger pajamas with a tiger head hood pulled over.

“Ohhh! How majestic! How cool!”

“Majestic?”

No matter how I looked at it, she was just a kid in cute tiger pajamas. But to Ara, she probably saw herself as a majestic and cool tiger.

“I like it!”

“I’m glad you like it. It suits you very well.”

“I will wear it when we go out! I will show everyone my majesty!”

Maybe Ara’s idea of majesty was silencing people with cuteness. After wriggling out of my grasp, she sat calmly in her seat with a strangely dignified expression, exuding a sense of arrogance.

“I am majestic.”

“You’re cute.”

As I and Yu Bihong looked on in disbelief, Ryu Cheon repeatedly exclaimed how cute she was. With that, it was time to leave after the tiger pajama commotion. Ryu Cheon and Yu Bihong waved us off by the plane.

“We’ll see you again! Take care!”

Ara eagerly chattered at the window, knowing they couldn’t hear. After waving for a while, she sat back in her seat, adopting a serious and dignified pose again. Is it too late to strike a pose now, Ara?

“Did you have fun?”

“Yes, it was fun.”

“Let’s come again next time when we have time.”

“Sounds good! No, sounds greaat!”

Excited by the idea of visiting again, Ara shouted but then lowered her voice to respond, trying to maintain her dignity. She was so adorable that I barely managed to resist pinching her soft cheeks to keep her majesty intact.

‘Phew, I barely held back.’

***

As soon as we returned, we decided to visit the guild. Deputy Team Leader Lee Hae-sol, who had come to pick us up at the airport, was there.

“Sorry for the inconvenience despite your busy schedule.”

“It’s no trouble. I happened to have some free time.”

Since the last event at the orphanage, Deputy Team Leader Lee Hae-sol seemed to take more care of me, but honestly, I couldn’t figure out why.

His sly smile and inscrutable eyes made it hard to read him, making me reflect on whether I had done something wrong.

“How was the trip? With such a short duration of just one night and two days, I doubt you could enjoy everything.”

“It was fun. I felt guilty for receiving so much hospitality.”

“I’m glad you enjoyed it. It’s impressive that the great Skyscraper took such good care of you, Kyu-seong.”

“Haha, not at all. I was just lucky.”

As we chatted, we arrived at the guild. Until then, Ara, still in her tiger pajamas and maintaining her serious mode, quickly got out of the car. I wondered why she seemed so hurried but soon understood.

“Brother Kang Hanul, where is Jeong So-yeon?”

She was eager to show off her majestic appearance. Lee Hae-sol’s mild reaction must not have satisfied her.

“They’re both out right now. Team Leader 1 is in a meeting, and Team Leader 2 is in a dungeon.”

“Gasp!”

Ara’s serious mode was broken by Lee Hae-sol’s calm words, leaving her stunned. Her shoulders slumped.

“They’re not here…?”

“Ara, since we just got back from abroad, we should go say hello to your grandparents and Seon-ah.”

“Oh! Are we going to the main house?”

“Yes. Let’s go and greet them.”

“Oooh! That’s great!”

Ara, who had been dejected, quickly perked up. Seeing this, Lee Hae-sol looked at me with an expression of admiration.

“Kyu-seong, you’re quite skilled.”

“Excuse me?”

“You’re adept at handling Ara.”

I scratched my head and laughed off Lee Hae-sol’s remark. It wasn’t that I was particularly skilled; Ara was just easygoing, making it simple to deal with her.

After the little commotion, we met Guild Leader Han Seok-jun. He was busy checking documents but stopped as soon as he saw me.

“I hope I’m not interrupting your work.”

“No, not at all. I just finished. How was Skyscraper?”

“It was quite fun. There were many fascinating things.”

At that moment, Ara subtly stepped forward, trying to show off her appearance without looking obvious. The considerate Guild Leader Han Seok-jun immediately took the bait.

“Oh, Ara, you got new clothes? They look great on you.”

“Hmm.”

“You look very majestic. Very cool.”

“Do you really think so? You have a good eye!”

I looked at Han Seok-jun in surprise. How could he come up with such a comment immediately upon seeing her? Was this the feeling Haesol had when he looked at me in admiration earlier?

“Did Skyscraper give you those clothes?”

“Yes, it was a gift. I love it.”

“Ah, Skyscraper must have seen your majestic appearance and chosen the perfect gift. I’ll have to work harder too.”

“Hmm! It’s fine. You always treat me well, so I’ll overlook it.”

“Thank you, Ara. I’ll continue to do my best for you.”

Listening to the conversation between Han Seok-jun and Ara, I couldn’t help but ask,

“Guild Leader, are you married?”

“Hmm? Yes, I am.”

“Oh, then do you have children…?”

“I have a son and a daughter. Should I arrange a meeting with Ara next time?”

Nodding naturally at the ongoing conversation, I suddenly felt I had been impolite and was about to apologize when Han Seok-jun burst into laughter.

“It seems I’ve been too formal until now. Let’s have more personal conversations in the future.”

“Ah, I’m sorry, I just realized I didn’t know anything about you.”

“It’s okay. I never mentioned it. Now that you know, let’s continue to get along well.”

Looking at the handsome man with a friendly smile, I wondered who managed to win his heart. If his children inherited his looks, they must be adorable and beautiful.

“Guild Leader, I got sidetracked. I have something to report.”

“Yes, go ahead.”

“The clothes Ara is wearing are actually legendary equipment.”

“Ah! Legendary equipment?”

Han Seok-jun’s face froze in place. Seeing him motionless, even his breathing seemed to have stopped, I also held my breath.

“…Legendary equipment?”

When he finally moved, his eyes shook like a stormy sea.

Survival 154

Prev I TOC I Next

‘…I expected this, but it’s even more pathetic.’

Bathory’s eyes slightly distorted.

The radiant eyes that once showed victory over her were clearly different now.

Though she didn’t intend to admit it.

Now, despite Bathory’s wretched state, the descendant of the warrior was a knight and the daughter of a prestigious noble family.

However, her current appearance was starkly different.

Drooping eyes, lifeless pupils.

From just that, it was clear how much emotional turmoil the warrior’s descendant had gone through.

‘Truly… you are like a devil, Frost Mane.’

The taste in her mouth turned bitter.

If she were in the same situation, she wouldn’t be much different.

“Sigh, calm down and listen. Hans is fine.”

“…Is that true?”

“I always live in Hans’s shadow. If he had died, I wouldn’t have survived either.”

Her eyes, which had earlier resembled dead fish, regained some vitality.

Seeing this, Bathory added with a blank face, “If you don’t believe me, send a telepathic message. He’ll reluctantly respond.”

“…Got it.”

Luciana’s expression was peculiar.

Since she had assumed he was dead, she hadn’t thought to send a telepathic message.

‘Well, Frost Mane will handle it.’

Even though Frost Mane feared having his identity exposed, if the warrior’s descendant contacted him directly, he’d respond with a bitter smile.

He had a surprisingly soft spot for her.

Sure enough, “……!”

Her complexion brightened gradually with her eyes closed.

It wasn’t hard to deduce that he had responded to her message.

“Did you hear from him?”

“Doubtful of the alliance between the beastmen and elves, he went to investigate alone. Really… I wish he had at least sent a message.”

Her now radiant face showed no anger or resentment for faking his death.

Frost Mane, skilled in persuasion, must have worked hard to console the one he cherished so much with his words.

‘…Hmph. How special is the warrior’s descendant anyway?’

It would be a lie to say she wasn’t jealous.

There was a clear difference in how he treated others, including herself, compared to the warrior’s descendant.

Yet, she couldn’t help but assist her.

Sympathy? Of course, there was a part of that.

But there was a more important issue.

“First of all, thank you honestly. I owe you.”

“You’re welcome.”

“However, I do wonder. Why did you consider me? We have… a bad history.”

At her uncharacteristically cautious behavior, she let out a self-deprecating chuckle.

In truth, it wasn’t consideration at all.

All of this was for herself.

Frost Mane.

Someone who, before she knew it, occupied a significant part of her heart.

After spending a long time with him, she realized something.

About how he forms relationships.

Utility.

Every relationship she observed from the shadows was like that.

Even Riu Caspera, the saint, and herself and Oparn, both demons, were no exceptions.

He measured the other’s status, position, abilities… and adjusted things to his advantage.

If something has value, keep it close.

If it doesn’t, act as if it doesn’t exist.

For the sake of using it.

That was essentially the only reason he formed relationships.

The only exception was… the warrior’s descendant standing before her.

-What’s your relationship with her?

-It’s my turn to ask questions, but fine, I’ll answer since my previous one was insincere. She’s someone who can perfect my ultimate culinary delight.

Bathory smiled bitterly as she recalled.

From the first time she met him, their conversations had always been like this.

Ultimate delicacy.

Frost Mane often called her that, claiming to be her servant.

He never asked for anything in return.

Just as she herself did for Frost Mane.

‘I’m envious. So envious that I want to crush her in the demon’s way and steal all his attention.’

It’s just ‘delicacy.’ Even if it’s ruined, Frost Mane might get angry, but he’d soon lose interest.

He’s the kind who doesn’t look back at things that no longer interest him.

But.

At the same time, Bathory would also be abandoned.

For stealing his interest, obstructing him, and ruining things.

She barely managed to control the flames of jealousy burning in her heart.

It wasn’t that she gave up.

She just felt disillusioned with the demon’s way.

‘The method of taking everything from the other by force ultimately won’t win Frost Mane’s heart.’

Even if she forcibly took away his freedom, Frost Mane wouldn’t be one to be bound by it.

-Ha ha, you got me. To think I’d be betrayed by someone I trusted, Lady Bathory. Well, that’s probably why you lost to the Demon King as well. There was no one who truly helped you.

Laughing like that.

Mocking her.

In the image, she naturally drew of being forcibly held but not giving up a single thing he wanted.

Therefore, the conclusion she reached was singular.

“…As a maid, I simply do what the servant desires.”

If he judged people based on utility, then she just needed to suit his taste.

She would teach him magic.

She would guard him.

She would sometimes act as his messenger in difficult times.

Until the point where her absence would bring slight inconvenience.

Starting with him, until he becomes a familiar and indispensable presence.

She literally decided to look out for Frost Mane’s convenience.

‘Who knows. When he grows tired of this woman, he might seek the closest one first.’

So this wasn’t just helping.

It was a process to become even closer with Frost Mane.

‘In any case, I seem to be deeply influenced by him. To be scheming like this.’

Though uncertain and time-consuming, it was better than nothing.

After all, building a castle starts with a single stone.

“Well, I’ve delivered my message. I too have to join in Hans’s plan.”

“…Wait a moment.”

Suddenly, her steps stopped.

Luciana had stopped her.

‘…Could it be, she’s figured out my plan?’

No, it’s possible.

In fact, as someone who dislikes demons, it wouldn’t be strange for the warrior’s descendant to forcefully intervene.

With that rationalization, Bathory tried to move again.

Thinking she could just ignore her rebuke, which lacked evidence, thrown at her back.

“I never thought I would feel grateful to you, but I must thank you for this, Bathory.”

Is this what it feels like to have a guilty conscience?

As a noble vampire, she felt a shudder, as if she were a stray cat.

‘Isn’t this the first time I’ve been called by my name?’

No, had she ever been called by her name by a human before?

While she stood there in a daze, forgetting to go to Frost Mane, Luciana lightly placed a hand on her shoulder.

“If a subordinate has achieved something, it is only right for the superior to reward them. We’ll discuss this later.”

“…No. As I said earlier, I only did what a maid should do.”

“Hehe, I see. I understand well.”

Luciana gestured towards the outside, indicating she should leave.

The dark expression she had when she first entered the room was nowhere to be seen.

“By the way, I heard that the beastmen are similar to Levain, so they must be quite a formidable opponent. Make sure to guard him well.”

Instead of turning the maid’s body away, she stepped forward, her blue eyes looking straight ahead.

Was it an illusion?

The look in her eyes wasn’t much different from the one she saw in the mirror.

‘Tsk. Why……’

Bathory’s eyes trembled slightly.

The position of a princess.

The engagement with the crown prince.

For now, she couldn’t help but be grateful for the warrior’s descendant’s situation.

If it weren’t for those obstacles……

‘Get a grip. I just need to do my job well.’

Always prioritize Frost Mane,

And, if possible, avoid thinking about the warrior’s descendant at all.

Although a familiar belongs to their contractor, Bathory had long since realized that she was already entangled with Frost Mane.

Therefore,

Burying her foolish heart,

Or perhaps, as a maid she had become accustomed to being,

And hiding her audacious insubordination deep in her chest,

Bathory slowly blended into the shadows.

“Humans have quite the poor taste.”

Freesia’s face was heavily frowned.

Well, it was understandable.

This was a place where the most primal human desires were blatantly displayed.

It was a stronghold of slave hunters.

‘No one would enjoy seeing their kind locked in cages.’

Even I found it disgusting; how would she feel?

As she freed the slaves with a determined face, I shrugged my shoulders.

“Humans are inherently like this.”

“…Aren’t you human too? How are you so different?”

“Hehe, I am no different from them.”

“What do you mean?”

“It means I am true to my desires.”

At that moment, a few elves approached me.

No, it wasn’t just elves.

Among them were also beastmen with various animal ears standing up on their heads.

“Th-thank you for saving us.”

“If we had been captured like this, who knows what would have happened…”

“Ah, ugh…”

As Freesia’s tense expression softened and she didn’t know what to do,

I stood behind, grinning slyly.

My mouth watered.

The feeling of being revered by others!

Of course, as the daughter of that divine archer, she must have been treated with great respect.

This type of favor must be a first for her.

As evidence, even the ears sticking out from her white hair showed an honest reaction.

“No. We are all residents blessed by the World Tree, aren’t we? Helping like this is only natural…”

“Ahem.”

‘But I can’t tolerate kicking away a pumpkin that rolled in.’

Interrupting her kind response, I stepped forward in front of them.

“Nice to meet you, everyone.”

“Ugh, a human…?”

Did they recall the hunters who captured them?

They stepped back with their ears drooping.

“This is a disappointing reaction. Even though I’m the benefactor who saved you from becoming slaves.”

“…Thank you.”

Unlike with Freesia a moment ago, they bowed in gratitude.

Well, that’s fine.

As long as they didn’t see me as an ‘enemy.’

“Hehe, very good. I too feel a sense of fulfillment receiving thanks from the elves and beastmen.”

After surveying the faces of the audience one by one, I spoke again.

“However, if you could give me a small cooperation, I would feel even more rewarded.”

Flinch.

Whether beastmen or elf, they all looked at me with wary eyes, as if seeing a slave trader.

But it didn’t matter.

“Frost Mane, how could you… asking newly rescued people…”

“Freesia, do I do business by eating dirt? The funds, time, and manpower invested here… I need compensation to be motivated for the next rescue operation, don’t I?”

I skillfully put on a smiling mask.

Of course, I didn’t spend any actual funds.

Time was something I gave willingly.

Manpower was provided voluntarily by the followers of our Disaster Cult.

In any case, one should claim credit when they can, to gain any benefits.

Upon hearing my words, their faces instantly darkened.

“If there is anything we can do, we will. So please…”

“Ah, don’t worry. I’m not going to make any excessive demands of you. It’s just a small cooperation.”

Quickly, just like with Freesia, I scribbled on a piece of paper with a quill.

[Disaster Cult Constantly Recruiting Followers]

[Welcome even if you already serve another deity]

“That’s… Phew. I wondered what it was.”

After confirming the contents, Freesia let out a sigh of relief.

It was indeed not an excessive demand, even in her view.

‘After all, to her, it’s just a piece of paper.’

But that’s because Freesia, with her firm beliefs, was worthy of being a hero.

These people were different.

Even a seemingly trivial piece of paper could have great significance to them.

Therefore,

“Disaster Cult…?”

“Yes. A religion called by the World Tree to save you.”

I slowly moistened my dry lips.

Starting with the elves,

“It’s okay to continue believing in the World Tree. But when you were caught helplessly, did the World Tree save you?”

“…That.”

“Why is that? You had unwavering faith in your god, yet not even a small miracle happened.”

I turned my head once again.

This time, towards the beastmen.

“Poor warriors who were captured while trying to save the Mother Tree. Tell me, if a god is supposed to save their followers, how can it be that the followers are the ones needing to be saved?”

Of course, it was nonsense as always.

Faith, in essence, transcends reality.

The moment it requires tangible rewards, it loses its value as a religion.

“Why did the World Tree abandon us…”

“Has the Mother Tree forsaken us?”

But how could people not harbor such blasphemous thoughts?

Everyone seeks salvation.

And their god, the World Tree, did not respond to their calls.

Planting seeds of doubt in this gap was as easy as pie.

“But the Disaster Cult is different.”

I smiled slyly and held out the contract.

“If you just sign here, the Disaster Cult will actively assist you.”

“Disaster Cult….”

“That’s right. Very good. Just sign here….”

Having already experienced life as slaves, they likely had some degree of mistrust.

Seeing them cooperate so easily, the corners of my mouth almost reached my cheeks—

—Thud!

—The paper they were about to sign was suddenly pierced by an arrow.

“Eek!”

“Ah!”

The elf holding the pen had their ears shoot up in the air.

The arrow, which narrowly missed them, lodged itself in the ground among the escapees.

“I hear you have been speaking quite disrespectfully about the World Tree.”

A voice I had never heard before.

But it sounded a bit like someone standing next to me.

“Eek!”

Sure enough, Freesia’s ears flapped as she looked for a place to hide.

She wasn’t the only one.

The elf who was about to sign also turned visibly pale upon hearing the voice.

“Please, could you also tell me about this Disaster Cult?”

A silver-haired elf emerged from the trees, making me swallow hard.

[Boss]

[Divine Archer]

[Primrose Evergreen]

The status window above her head showed a name I knew very well.

“…I didn’t expect the Divine Archer herself to come here.”

The grand protector of the World Tree.

The Divine Archer was glaring at me with unmistakable hostility.

Round 130

WaguWagu!

As I had anticipated, Ara started to eat food that looked and smelled utterly repulsive without any hesitation.

“Mmm!”

She occasionally let out an inexplicable exclamation, which made me slightly concerned.

“Is it tasty?”

“It’s edible. Yum yum.”

She didn’t say it was delicious. Still, her manner of eating was the same as usual.

Seeing Ara eat so appetizingly, I couldn’t help but become curious. Maybe the food just looks and smells weird, but it actually tastes okay?

In the end, I couldn’t resist my curiosity and reached for the least objectionable-looking dish.

‘Yuck!’

The moment I put it in my mouth, a bitter taste overwhelmed me from what seemed like a harmless dish. At the same time, I sensed an unknown spice, so unfamiliar that it triggered a rejection response.

Trying not to show any reaction, I swallowed it whole without chewing, and Ryu Cheon slyly observed my reaction.

“How is it?”

“…Not the worst I’ve had.”

“That’s one of the bad ones. This one is slightly better.”

Why didn’t she say so earlier!

Even the dish Ryu Cheon recommended wasn’t ordinary. It still had that mysterious stench. Meanwhile, Ara, who had polished off the dish, started to help herself to more.

“Let me get that for you.”

People dressed like restaurant staff helped Ara with her meal. As soon as they put a bit of each dish on her plate, she quickly devoured them.

“Mmm! It’s a delicacy!”

“A d-delicacy?”

Just as I was starting to have serious doubts about Ara’s taste, Ryu Wang-jin spoke with a satisfied expression.

“Is it to your taste?”

“It’s good!”

“Hah! It’s the first time I’ve met someone with the same taste as mine! Excellent!”

Then Ryu Wang-jin got up and started serving dishes to Ara himself.

“This is the intestines of a three-headed serpent, dried raw, then spiced and fermented! And this is the eye of a Cyclops, caught barely from a 7th-level dungeon, marinated, then grilled! These are so rare, this is the last one!”

Hearing the explanation made me lose my appetite even more. But Ara, on the other hand, was impressed and delighted.

“Oh! Amazing!”

“Dip it in the innard sauce of a human-faced fish, and it creates an exquisite flavor!”

Was what I just ate the sauce from a human-faced fish? I don’t know what that is, but the name alone makes it sound like something I should never put in my mouth

Losing my appetite more and more, I decided to serve Ara’s food myself. Using the excuse that I needed to take care of Ara, I kept my distance from the food.

Time passed by.

Gradually, the enormous amount of food began to disappear. It was a miracle achieved solely by Ara and Ryu Wang-jin.

Scrape, scrape.

With a satisfied face, Ara scraped the last bit from the empty bowl and raised her arms in triumph.

“All done!”

“Amazing!”

Even Ryu Wang-jin, who had started to nibble as he got full, was impressed. It was refreshing to see genuine admiration on his face.

Ara, who impressed the guild master of the skyscraper!

Ryu Wang-jin didn’t stop there and shouted with a satisfied expression.

“Finally, I have found a true friend of my heart! Ara! You are worthy to be my true friend!”

“Oh! What is that!”

Even though she didn’t understand what was being said, Ara clenched her fists and her eyes sparkled.

“A true friend of the heart! We are friends now!”

“Friend! Sonogon is now my friend!”

“Yes! We are now friends who understand each other! And it’s Sonogong, not Sonogon!”

The more I got to know him, the more I wondered how such a person could be the guild master of the Skyscraper Guild. Of course, there must be a cold and calculating side to him that I don’t know about, right?

…Please tell me there is. Don’t let me down!

As I awkwardly watched without reacting, I suddenly heard snickering from beside me. Turning my gaze, I saw Ryu Cheon, who always kept a straight face, was laughing.

Ryu Cheon! Laughing!

“A-ah, miss…”

The startled Yu Bihong murmured softly and then began to shed tears. It was clearly tears of joy.

Even Ryu Wang-jin was taken aback by this and his face stiffened.

“Huh, huh…”

Ryu Cheon laughed quietly for a while, then, noticing the atmosphere, tilted her head and asked me.

“Was I laughing?”

“Yes.”

“Oh…”

She seemed surprised by her own laughter and couldn’t speak for a while. Then, looking at the crying Yu Bihong and the stern-faced Ryu Wang-jin, she touched her own face.

“I was laughing.”

“You should laugh louder, Ryu Cheon! Follow my lead!”

“Okay.”

“He! He! He! He!”

“Hehehe?”

“Mmm! Good!”

Ara energetically gave a thumbs-up. In the meantime, Yu Bihong, who had wiped her tears, smiled brightly and spoke.

“It’s really nice. Thank you, Ara.”

“Hehe.”

Ryu Wang-jin, who had been assessing the situation, finally managed to speak.

“Did you take a photo, no, a video?”

I didn’t know who he was asking, but the waiting staff responded apologetically in Chinese. They probably said they couldn’t take it.

“That’s unfortunate. It’s been so long since I’ve seen Ryu Cheon laugh. It reminds me of the cute little girl who used to follow me around.”

“When are you talking about, Grandpa?”

Ryu Cheon, who had returned to her usual expressionless face, replied awkwardly.

“Anyway, it’s been a long time since I felt happiness and joy.”

“Mmm, that’s good. You should always be happy, friend.”

“Hahaha. Yes, thank you, friend.”

Ara, who had suddenly become friends with Ryu Wang-jin, responded cheerfully.

In the suddenly strange atmosphere, I slowly spoke up.

“May I prepare the dessert? It’s simple, but I brought something suitable for dessert.”

“Hmm, I’ll eat it gratefully.”

A dish to resolve the emotional yet awkward atmosphere!

I immediately took something out from Bokkeum. Actually, I hadn’t planned to take it out now but to present it as a gift later, but here it is.

“Tofu…”

“Tofu.”

“Tofu?”

“Pudding!”

“Oh! Tofu pudding!”

Actually, I wanted to make tofu, but after several attempts, I kept failing, so I decided to try again later. Instead, I made tofu pudding. Although it’s called tofu pudding, the method of making it is entirely different from that of tofu.

It was a super simple recipe that only required adding gelatin and starch to soy milk.

“And with fairy honey syrup on top.”

“Fairy honey?”

“It’s a special honey. Only I can get it.”

Proudly, I handed out the tofu pudding and the fairy honey syrup separately to everyone. Naturally, I had prepared portions for Ara and myself as well.

“This is a familiar dessert. A very fitting end to the meal.”

“He. He, he! You can look forward to it!”

Ara held the bowl with the pudding in both hands and laughed mischievously. Watching her cuteness, I poured the syrup over the pudding.

“Please, have a taste.”

“Thank you for the meal.”

Ryu Cheon was the first to take a bite of the pudding. Following her, Yu Bihong and Ryu Wang-jin each took a bite.

Ara seemed like she was about to eat right away but then hesitated, watching the others’ reactions.

“How is it? How is it!”

Despite Ara’s eager question, everyone was momentarily speechless. Finally, Ryu Cheon, snapped back by Ara’s voice, slowly began to speak.

“It’s delicious…”

“It’s delicious!”

Ara smiled with satisfaction and handed me a spoonful of pudding.

“Ahhh.”

“Nom.”

As expected, our Ara. She’s the only one who takes care of me.

Soon, we were all eating the pudding with proper posture. The combination of the rich taste and the sweetness of the honey created a supreme harmony. At the same time, the smooth texture melted in the mouth.

“Ah.”

I couldn’t be happier. Having tasted Ryu Wang-jin’s peculiar dishes, this dessert felt even more special.

It seemed I wasn’t the only one feeling this way; Ryu Cheon and Yu Bihong were savoring the pudding with melted expressions.

“It’s delicious. Occasionally having something like this isn’t bad.”

Only Ryu Wang-jin, who managed to speak, kept his composure. Even he, who enjoyed strange foods, couldn’t help but acknowledge the overwhelming taste.

‘The syrup I made this time is a success too.’

The syrup poured over the pudding wasn’t just honey but honey that had been boiled down. Although I didn’t add any special ingredients, I took care to stir it diligently to prevent burning.

“Ah…”

Ryu Cheon sighed regretfully as she looked at the empty bowl. She had already finished all the pudding. But it’s always better to leave them wanting more. If I let them eat to their heart’s content, they might end up like me.

‘My palate has become too refined…’

Satisfying them completely wasn’t the goal. Leaving them slightly wanting ensures they crave it more. Of course, I would give Ryu Cheon as much soy milk, her remedy, as she wanted.

“It was a wonderful meal!”

With Ryu Wang-jin’s declaration, the meal came to an end.

Ara and I spent one night and two days exploring the Skyscraper Guild. Our guides were Ryu Cheon and Yu Bihong.

The building was so large and extensive, and the grounds were beyond my imagination, so we couldn’t explore everything in the two days. We only visited places that seemed interesting to me.

One of the most impressive spots was the farm.

“As expected…”

As I had anticipated, there was a place where they were attempting to cultivate dungeon plants. They said they were making slight progress, but Ryu Cheon shook her head.

“The germination rate of the seeds is 0.02%. Even if they do sprout, they rarely grow to maturity. Moreover, even if they manage to grow, they don’t have the item effects like your crops, Kyu-seong.”

Instead, they had some success with domesticating monsters. Thanks to this, it was predicted that in ten years, not only cows, pigs, and chickens but also edible monsters would be commercialized.

Of course, they mentioned that the price would likely be higher than that of ordinary livestock, so we still need to keep an eye on the situation.

Just before we finished our two-day visit and were about to leave, we met Ryu Wang-jin again. We hadn’t seen him since our initial meeting due to his busy schedule.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t take better care of you while you were here.”

“No problem. Ryu Cheon and Yu Bihong took good care of us.”

“Thank you for thinking positively. I feel we share a strong bond.”

“Haha, I think so too.”

Ryu Wang-jin gave Ara a big smile and then clapped his hands loudly. Immediately, some staff members appeared, carrying a huge box.

“What’s that…?”

“A gift! I hope you like it!”

“Thank you.”

I accepted the gift with a joyful heart, not expecting to receive a treasure chest-like box.

“You can open it now if you like!”

“Ah, then, I won’t hold back…”

Ryu Cheon and Yu Bihong, who had been watching, looked at me with expectant faces, curious about my reaction.

“A treasure chest!”

“Ara, would you like to open it?”

“Let’s open it together!”

“Sure.”

Ara and I opened the box together. Inside, there were items that looked like they came from a dungeon and a pretty wooden box.

“A hat!”

Ara exclaimed excitedly upon seeing the item. However, contrary to her shout, it wasn’t a hat.

“What’s this?”

It resembled a one-piece animal pajama, like the ones we know, but it looked like a tiger pajama, complete with a hood. Ara had thought it was a hat because of the hood attached to the outfit.

“It looks unusual, but its performance is guaranteed!”

Ryu Wang-jin said with a satisfied expression.

I took it out of the box to examine it. It seemed slightly large, as if meant for an adult, making me wonder if I was supposed to wear it.

“The size adjusts to fit the wearer’s body.”

Ryu Cheon added an explanation just in time.

[Full Body Armor of the Tiger King (Legendary)]

[This is the leather of the Mountain King who once dominated the world.]

[It emanates the aura of a power that can uproot mountains and cover the world.]

– Reduces physical damage and impact by 35%

– Increases strength

– Enhances temperature resistance

– Adjusts its size to fit the wearer’s body

Despite its appearance, the name and description make it an incredibly formidable item.

Moreover, it’s a legendary item!

As far as I know, there are barely over ten legendary items in our country…

“Is it really okay for me to accept this? A legendary item…?”

“It’s rather insufficient.”

Ryu Wang-jin replied nonchalantly.

“The changes you and Ara have brought to us are too significant to be compensated by just such an item. Don’t hesitate, and feel free to ask if there’s anything else you want.”

Him saying that makes me feel even more burdened!

Meanwhile, Ara was examining the outfit with a cheerful expression, seemingly very pleased with it.

“Check the wooden box too.”

“The wooden box?”

At Ryu Cheon’s words, I looked back inside the box.

Ah, I had been so focused on the legendary item that I had forgotten about the wooden box.

Given the context, it was clear that this too was not an ordinary item.

‘Just how much are they going to give…?’

Feeling a bit overwhelmed, I took out the wooden box to examine it. The box itself was luxurious but didn’t seem particularly special.

And then, as I opened the lid…

“Huh?”

A fragrant and refreshing scent wafted out.

Inside the box, nestled in moss, was a radiant root.

“No way…”

It was the appearance of a miraculous elixir.
