Round 129

4 AM.

I woke up earlier than usual, and despite my own grogginess, I washed Ara’s face, who couldn’t even open her eyes properly due to sleepiness. Today was the day we were visiting the Skyscraper Guild in China.

“Do we have everything?” I asked, even though I had meticulously packed the day before. Just to be sure, I double-checked everything. Though it was just a one-night, two-day trip, I still wanted to make sure we hadn’t forgotten anything.

“Mmm….” Ara yawned, rubbing her sleepy eyes. I thought it would be a good idea to wake her up a bit more, so I took out the Layla slushie I had prepared.

“Ara, let’s eat something delicious.”

“Something delicious!?” Ara’s voice was still sleepy, but she sounded startled. I handed her the slushie, and she began to hum a little tune.

“Hmm~!” she hummed.

“Moments like this make winter not seem so bad.” I had made the slushie by mixing Layla’s juice and pulp with the nearby snow. It was hastily prepared but still guaranteed to be tasty.

Before leaving, I took one last look around the field and checked on the familiars. Some were still fast asleep, but the sluggish ones were awake, albeit with dazed expressions.

– Heheng

After petting the inscrutable creatures one by one, I checked on Gomgom, who was hibernating, and then headed out.

“We’re going!” Ara shouted energetically, fully awake from the slushie. She had been excited about going to China since the day before.

‘Though it seems she’s more excited about the plane ride than China itself,’ I thought, smiling at the adorable Ara as we left the dungeon. I only packed Bokkeum, but in truth, preparing for the trip was meaningless.

After all, I could freely come and go using the “Master of Gluttony” ability. In essence, I was a walking dungeon.

“Hmm?” As soon as we stepped outside, my phone rang. A flood of messages that had piled up over the day poured in. They were all from my father and Seon-ah.

– The construction contract is entrusted.

My father’s message could be summed up in one sentence. He said he’d estimate the amount, but I wasn’t worried about money.

I texted my father that I’d be in China for two days and then checked Seon-ah’s messages.

“What? Casting?” The unexpected content in Seon-ah’s message surprised me. It said that a talent agency, Iron Blood Entertainment, had contacted her after watching Ara’s YouTube videos. The image of CEO Baek Tae-seop flashed in my mind.

‘He often looked at Ara with a peculiar gaze… Could he have been thinking about this all along?’

I pondered Seon-ah’s message for a moment before replying that I’d think it over slowly since I was going to China. I also sent a message to CEO Baek.

‘Iron Blood Entertainment contacted us…’

It seemed strange that he hadn’t contacted me directly, but had emailed Seon-ah first. I forwarded the content of Seon-ah’s message to CEO Baek and hailed a taxi.

“To the airport, please!”

***

“Ooooh.”

As the plane took off, Ara stuck close to the window, making strange noises. Thankfully, the only other people on the plane were staff from Ara Hongryeon, sent to interpret for us, so we didn’t have to worry about being conspicuous.

“I never imagined they’d lend us the guild’s private jet. I’m so grateful.”

“Mr. Lee Kyu-seong, you are a VIP guild member.”

“Pardon?”

“Just a joke. Haha. Actually, the guild master thought this level of formality was necessary for your visit to Skyscraper.”

I scratched my head and smiled at the interpreter’s light-hearted joke. The Skyscraper Guild was located in Shanghai. It wasn’t far by plane. Thanks to this, we could travel comfortably, receiving VIP treatment throughout the short flight.

As soon as we landed and got off the plane, a vehicle approached us immediately. Unlike at our home airport, where you walk from the plane to the terminal, a car was coming straight to us here, so we paused to watch it approach.

“It seems like they’ve come to greet us.”

“Wow.”

A very expensive-looking gemstone limousine pulled up slowly in front of us, and the driver got out.

“Welcome to China, Mr. Lee Kyu-seong. I’ll take you to Skyscraper.”

He spoke fluent Korean. I bowed my head and greeted him.

“You can speak comfortably with me. I’m Korean too.”

“Oh, you’re Korean.” I had assumed he was Chinese. Well, Skyscraper might be a huge guild based in China, but it’s essentially a multinational guild.

As I got into the car, with the driver naturally holding the door open, Ara whispered to me in amazement.

“Kyu-seong Kyu-seong.”

“Yes, what?”

“This car is so cool. Can’t you ride something this cool, Kyu-seong?”

“Should we buy one when we get back to Korea?”

“Yes!”

I had been thinking of buying a car anyway, and seeing Ara’s reaction, I decided to look into it right away when we got back. However, a limousine like this felt a bit too much. Ara might be disappointed.

The limousine rode smoothly without any noise. While chatting with the Skyscraper staff who was driving, we soon arrived at Skyscraper.

“Wow.”

“It’s bigger than Ara Hongryeon!”

Ara exclaimed, tilting her head back to look up. It reminded me of her reaction when she first saw the Ara Hongryeon building.

Skyscraper, as Ara said, was a much larger building than Ara Hongryeon. It was not only wider but also so tall that its top was obscured by clouds. The technology utilizing gemstones was simply astonishing.

“Welcome, Mr. Lee.”

“Ah! Ms. Yu Bihong!”

I was pleased to see a familiar face I had met recently. Beside her was a woman with snow-white hair staring intently at Ara.

“Hello, Ms. Ryu Cheon.”

“Hello?”

Ryu Cheon remained expressionless and unresponsive. Only when Yu Bihong nudged her did her eyes focus.

“Hello. Thank you very much for coming today.”

“It’s us who should be grateful for the invitation.”

“Has Ara been well?”

“Yes, she’s doing well.”

Though she was talking to me, her gaze was fixed on Ara without wavering. Eventually, Yu Bihong cleared her throat again, and Ryu Cheon’s gaze shifted to me.

“How have you been? Did the soy milk I gave you help?”

“Yes, thanks to you, my health has greatly improved. I even had a thorough check-up, and it was proven to have dramatic effects.”

“I’m glad to hear that!”

Huh? It seemed like Ryu Cheon’s Korean had improved significantly in just a few days. She now spoke quite naturally.

Meanwhile, Ara ran over to Ryu Cheon, stopping right in front of her and looking up at her.

“Are you feeling okay?” she asked.

“Yes,” Ryu Cheon replied.

“You mustn’t get sick! Even if Lee Kyu-seong can make you better, being sick is still being sick!”

Ryu Cheon looked at me as if asking for a translation, but even I couldn’t decipher Ara’s words. Being sick is still being sick? What did she mean? Regardless, Ara suddenly spread her arms wide.

“Ryu Cheon! Hug me!”

Ryu Cheon froze at Ara’s sudden demand.

“It’s fan service! Ryu Cheon, you’re my fan!”

“…Yes.”

Ryu Cheon glanced at me, and then, without hesitation, she hugged Ara tightly. She even rubbed her cheek against Ara’s, looking very pleased. Ara’s face squished like a bun was adorable, even though she tried hard to maintain a dignified expression.

“I’m a wonderful slime who cares about my fans!”

“That’s right. Ara is wonderful.”

“Wow! Am I wonderful?!”

Ara was surprised to hear herself being called wonderful, even though she had just claimed it herself. She seemed startled because she was used to being called cute but not wonderful.

“Of course. Our Ara is wonderful.”

“Ryu Cheon Ryu Cheon, you are great! You can hug me all you want!”

Here it came, the repeated name calling. Ryu Cheon knew how to handle Ara. Her analysis was befitting a hardcore fan of Ara.

As we were making a ruckus in front of the building, the Skyscraper staff who had brought me stepped forward.

“The guild master is waiting for you.”

“Okay.”

Ryu Cheon nodded with her face still pressed against Ara’s cheek. It was quite a sight, her expressionless face doing that.

Ara was then carried in Ryu Cheon’s arms while the rest of us followed her.

“They’re waiting in the dining hall.”

“The dining hall?”

“Yes. Have you had a meal yet?”

“We had some snacks on the plane and in the limousine.”

“The guild master, my grandfather, wants to welcome you with food. But you should be careful.”

“Excuse me?”

“My grandfather is a gourmand.”

Something felt off from the start. Was I really invited?

The dining hall was on one of the middle floors of the building. Even the middle floors were extremely high up due to the sheer height of the building.

“Wow.”

I admired the gemstone-operated elevator. It wasn’t visible from the outside, but inside, you could see the entire landscape as the elevator ascended. The scenery was fully visible as we rode up.

“Whoa.”

When we arrived at the dining hall, a variety of dishes awaited us on a long table. At the head of the table, the guild master, Ryu Wang-jin, greeted us with a cloud of smoke.

“Welcome to Skyscraper!”

“Good to see you again, Guild Master Ryu Wang-jin.”

We could converse without any issues, thanks to the translator he was wearing. Guild Master Han Seok-jun had provided an interpreter just in case, but it turned out to be unnecessary.

“Mr. Lee, I wish you luck.”

“What? Excuse me?”

Ryu Cheon suddenly spoke, and Yu Bihong gave me an apologetic smile and bowed her head.

Why? What’s going on?

As my anxiety grew, Ryu Wang-jin called us over.

“Please, have a seat!”

“Okay.”

I hurried over to where Ryu Wang-jin had called us and sat down. Naturally, Ara jumped onto my lap.

“Hello there?”

“Ara! Hello!”

“How have you been, Son-Ogon?”

“I’ve been well! And it’s Son-Ogong, not Son-Ogon!”

As another brain-melting conversation was about to unfold, I shifted my attention to the table.

The appearance of the food laid out on it was peculiar.

‘Monsters?’

It was definitely monster-based cuisine. The appearance was bizarre and unappetizing, making it hard to even think about eating. Some dishes even emitted a foul odor.

“It’s good for your body.”

Ryu Cheon, who had sat down next to me at some point, said with a rare frown.

“…Do we have to eat this?”

“It’s good for your body,” she repeated like a broken toy. Yu Bihong, with a wry smile, stepped in to explain.

“Ms. Ryu Cheon wasn’t well, so the guild master prepared all kinds of nutritious foods for her. Unexpectedly, this led to some side effects…”

“Unexpected side effects?”

“The guild master developed a taste for these bizarre dishes while dining with Ms. Ryu Cheon. He insists they aren’t strange, but as you can see…”

“The guild master considers these dishes a token of his sincerity.”

“That’s right. While they might seem bizarre to ordinary people, to the guild master, they are delicacies. So, when he invites guests, this is what happens.”

This was troublesome. Refusing would seem disrespectful, but eating these dishes would be a challenge.

“Just out of curiosity, what happens if we don’t finish?”

“Naturally, no one has ever finished. Not a single guest has ever cleared their plate. But we should at least pretend to eat.”

“Well, that’s a relief.”

While we were whispering, Ara and Ryu Wang-jin had finished their conversation.

“Well then, shall we start the meal? To the benefactor who healed our Ryu Cheon!”

Ryu Wang-jin raised his glass. Even the liquid in the glass emitted an unknown stench.

“To, to your health.”

“Cheers.”

I’ll just pretend to eat. It’s supposed to be nutritious, right? I took a deep breath and scanned for the least unappealing dish. At that moment, Ara nudged me.

“That one! That one! This one!”

“Ah! Okay, just a moment.”

I should serve Ara first. But is she okay with this?

…Wait, now that I think about it, Ara…

Ara could eat anything!

The dishes Ara pointed to had an appearance and smell that I couldn’t even contemplate, yet Ara looked at them, drooling. She seemed amazing to me.

And Ryu Wang-jin’s eyes, watching Ara, were intense.

“It looks delicious!”

Survival 153

Prev I TOC I Next

“Your stamina isn’t as good as I thought?”

As expected of the forest race.

She was following behind me, but now she was bouncing around in front of me, making me catch my breath.

‘As expected of a cheating race…’

Elves are masters of magic, but their physical abilities are generally weak.

However, that’s only true for ordinary elves.

For a High Elf like Freesia, she could just use aura.

“Let’s slow down a bit. The scenery is nice, so let’s take a look around!”

“I’ve always seen the jungle. I want to see different landscapes!”

“Anyway… do you even know where you’re going?”

Flinch.

Freesia’s steps suddenly halted.

“Well, who knows?”

Seeing her long ears quiver, she was clearly quite flustered.

Truly, she was incredibly easy to read.

I clicked my tongue and stood beside her.

“We’ll have to keep looking at the jungle for a while. The beastmen settlement is deeper in.”

“Ugh….”

Freesia openly displayed her dislike.

She was an unusual elf for someone who considered the forest their home.

‘Well, it’s because of that personality that I recruited her as an ally.’

With a satisfied smile, I looked up at the status window above her head.

[Follower Management]

[Freesia] – [Distrust]

Despite having a negative tag, the hastily signed contract was worth it.

Now, I had a status window that I could check anytime I wanted.

‘It’s almost like the specs in a game.’

A sense of satisfaction filled my chest.

Being an elf, she had high agility and magic power.

She could command spirits of all elements, allowing her to handle various situations.

Even her ranged aura attacks with her bow were hard to find in another companion.

And she was easy to handle.

“Don’t worry. After we deal with the beastmen, I’ll show you a castle built by humans and dwarves.”

“A castle?”

“One of the great architectural wonders created by humans. You’ll be amazed by the grandeur of stones piled one by one from the ground up! You’ll be surprised when you see it.”

Her previously pouting lips parted in awe.

She was already engrossed in my story.

Or rather, the stories of the world outside the jungle.

“I’m looking forward to it. I can’t wait to see it!”

“Haha, just follow me. Since you’ve signed the contract, I’ll guide you anywhere.”

‘This should keep her obedient for a while.’

While the curious elf imagined the castle in her mind,

I once again unfolded the document handed to me by the elder of the elves.

[Just as the humans have joined forces with the dwarves, we must unite as well.]

[Elves, if your magic combines with the strength of us beastmen, we can achieve it.]

[If we succeed in reclaiming the Mother Tree, the east side based on the largest root will belong to you elves, and the west side to us beastmen….]

Despite the elaborate words, the core was clear.

Form a coalition and conquer the land.

But.

‘The beastmen are spewing lies.’

I looked down at the document with cold eyes.

No, perhaps the beastmen who wrote this document was sincere.

There was indeed a prevailing atmosphere of worshiping the World Tree among the beastmen, just like with other races.

If someone were to incite such a person to act as a messenger, it would make sense that the elves were deceived.

‘Of course, their leader has no such intentions.’

That aside, this document provided me with a good clue.

It clearly stated that they formed an alliance with the elves faster than in the original story.

[Recently, the humans and dwarves have been continually developing the jungle and gradually taking away our living space.]

[Not only that, but slave hunting is rampant among both beastmen and elves. Are we just going to sit back and be victimized by these outsiders?]

Slave hunting.

The paper crumpled with a sound at this new keyword, absent in the original story.

“Frost Mane? Why do you look so angry?”

“Ahaha, it’s nothing. The castle and all that. Desires indeed drive human progress, but sometimes they remind me how utterly vile they can be.”

“…That’s quite an objective view. Aren’t you human too?”

Still somewhat untainted by the world,

Freesia didn’t hide her suspicious expression like an innocent and honest youth would, and I simply gave her a smile.

“Ahaha, being human sometimes makes it easier to see certain things.”

-You’re shameless. Is there any truth in the words you utter? Are you really a king of a race, or just a swindler?

-Shh. Our innocent elf lady doesn’t know yet. As long as she doesn’t find out, it’s not a scam.

Ignoring the elf’s sharp gaze and the vampire’s reprimand, I pushed through the thick foliage.

“How much longer do we have to go….”

“Shh, lower your voice. We’ve arrived.”

There was a wooden palisade that easily surpassed a person’s height.

However, since we were on high ground, we could see beyond it clearly.

It wasn’t the head of a beast on a human body.

Fitting the game disguised as a dating sim, the only animalistic feature was the ears protruding from their heads.

They were bustling around, each armed.

Upon discovering them, a status window appeared:

[Dungeon]

[beastmen Provision Depot]

[In war, food is morale.]

[The beastmen’s excellent performance in war is not only due to the righteous cause of reclaiming the Mother Tree, which is the foundation of their magic, but also due to their systematic supply management.]

[For the stability and peace of the south, destroy this heart of the enemy.]

The status window also indicated we had reached our destination.

I turned my gaze from her to Tamer.

Swapping out my smiling mask,

“You’ve prepared the monsters, right?”

“Yes!”

“You need to be fully prepared. The place we’re heading to is quite dangerous.”

Even with Tamer’s affirmative response, I added a cautionary warning.

This was an advanced base for attacking the World Tree.

We needed to be ready for warrior-class beastmen to be stationed there.

“We have Hellhounds, Griffons, and even Sandworms ready!”

Satisfied with the prompt response brimming with military spirit, I nodded approvingly.

“Indeed. This place will be full of enemies gnashing their teeth at you. You’ll need an escort.”

“Leader…!”

His usefulness and loyalty had already been proven during the previous invasion of the elf village.

If he is qualified, he should be treated accordingly.

It’s time to reward a valuable talent.

‘And I have some skills I want to test.’

Last time, I could only use it to prove faith.

Otherwise, the name of an Ex-rank skill would be in vain.

[Ex rank: Divine Call]

[Faith Skill]

[A devotee with deep faith must respond to the call of their god.]

[Target: Sword Demon]

[Would you like to summon?]

[Y / N]

A high-ranking member of the Disaster Cult and a field commander.

A warrior whose faith is second to none.

As soon as the Sword Demon, dressed in shabby clothes, appeared in the jungle,

the boy’s eyes filled with joy.

[Follower Management]

[Tamer] – [Loyalty]

[Loyalty has temporarily reached Max level. Additional buffs are applied.]

[Control over monsters is increased by 20%.]

‘Wow, this is almost like being pushed to sweep them all away!’

“What?! What is this…?”

“Welcome, comrade! The Calamity has commanded me to assist you!”

“Leader?”

With Tamer’s exclusive vanguard prepared, it was time to act freely.

Putting on my smiling mask again, I turned to Freesia.

“While the Sword Demon and Tamer hold off the beastmen, we’ll burn all their supplies.”

“Isn’t this a bad thing?”

“Bad? It’s for the World Tree. Your mother, the Divine Archer, would be proud.”

“Hmm….”

Though nearly an adult, Freesia’s young face was painted with confusion.

“The enemies threatening the elves. Don’t you want to defeat them with your own hands? Become the hero who saves your people.”

The potential of a blank canvas is limitless.

The atmosphere of the painting changes depending on what colors are used.

“Really?”

“If we successfully burn it all, we can go outside the jungle afterward. You’ll even get to see humans.”

“Oh! That’s tempting.”

Seeing Freesia’s ears perk up, I swallowed inwardly.

It was the moment when the first stain of ink touched her curious heart.

-…What poor taste.

Of course, it was also accompanied by the lament of someone who witnessed the whole process,

‘Good, the preparations are done, now for the battle to begin…’

At that moment,

-By the way, Frost Mane, did you inform the warrior’s descendant?

-What? No. This plan was concocted on the spot after meeting Tamer.

-I expected as much.

-There are more pressing matters right now.

Luciana will handle things well on her own.

She might be confused by my disappearance, but she is a brilliant commander who knows how to separate public and private matters.

There was a faint clicking sound from the shadows, but I ignored it.

The battle in front of me was more important.

It was more advantageous to act as Frost Mane than Hans Byron to thwart the final boss’s schemes.

‘So I can’t contact her.’

In the guise of Frost Mane, I couldn’t get close to her.

If discovered, not only would I face hostility, but a bounty would be issued in the name of Speda and the imperial family.

I wondered why she was asking about something so obvious.

– I understand your concerns, but I’m worried about the atmosphere after your disappearance.

Hmm, that’s true.

Bathory had a point.

Especially Luciana.

She would be deeply affected by the disappearance of her cherished servant, feeling an indescribable emptiness.

No matter how capable a commander she was, she was still human. Her insides might be burning.

But since there was something urgent that needed to be done, I couldn’t inform her through a telepathic message.

As I was pondering what to do, she said something completely unexpected.

-I’ll take care of informing her. You just focus on your task.

-Oh, could I ask you to do that?

It was a pleasant surprise.

Despite their antagonistic relationship, she was willing to step up.

-It’s fine. I’m just doing my duty as a maid.

‘Huh?’

Along with words uncharacteristic of a vampire noble, the presence I felt in the shadows vanished.

‘What’s this? Why such a bitter tone?’

It felt a bit off.

But I soon pushed it out of my mind.

“Leader, when do we execute the plan?”

There were more pressing matters at hand.

“Is everyone ready?”

It was time to cause chaos amidst the beastmen’s war and the human’s slave hunts.

***

The southern duke, the Golden Duke, hosted a welcoming party.

True to its name, the event was nothing short of luxurious.

The extravagant food and drinks were made from ingredients so rare that even a count’s family would find it hard to come by.

The marble floor was adorned with beautiful carvings.

Gem decorations pleased the eyes, and the performances delighted the ears.

Despite all this, the main guests of the welcoming party wore expressions as gloomy as dark clouds.

Why was that?

Luciana herself knew the reason better than anyone.

-Why are you so downcast? Raise your head and be proud. You are part of the Speda duchy.

It seemed like he would say that if he were here.

But he wasn’t here now.

“Hans…”

Her servant disappeared in an instant due to a monster attack, leaving no time to respond.

Disappeared wasn’t quite the word.

Given that he still hadn’t appeared…

Luciana’s hand clenched with force.

She knew.

The academy’s field assignments guaranteed grades but came with their own dangers.

Nobles directly exploring dungeons and fighting monsters.

How could she not know that there could be casualties in the process?

‘But… I never thought it would be Hans.’

Squeeze.

In the end, unbearable frustration made her nails dig into the soft fabric of her dress.

If only she had handled things better.

Such regrets kept swirling in her mind.

However, she couldn’t ignore the present by being fixated on the past.

Even though she lost her beloved servant…

She had to move forward.

She carried the name of Speda, the name of the academy, and she had to become the future mother of the empire wherever and whenever it was needed.

Forcing a mask of composure, Luciana looked around.

But.

Liza was staggering with her head bowed low.

“Did he really fall like this? That can’t be… He must have had a plan….”

“In this situation, what stance should I take…?”

Despite having suffered at his hands, Robert and Caspera, who should have felt triumphant, looked rather bewildered.

“Young Hans…”

“A valuable person has gone.”

“Please watch your words. My brother is…”

“If he’s dead, what happens to our alliance?”

“Don’t worry, Third Prince. He’s not someone who would die easily. Surely…”

Noble children of the ducal family, a promising mercenary, and even a saint.

They all spoke of him.

‘What do they know.’

Luciana inadvertently let out a bitter smile.

Their sorrow was nothing compared to hers.

Who could she share this deep pain with, as if she had lost her right arm?

“Tsk, the atmosphere of the party is really off. Even the wine tastes bland.”

It was at that moment.

The Crown Prince, who had always kept his distance even when she approached, walked towards her.

“Luciana.”

“…Your Highness, the Crown Prince.”

“No need for formalities. Shouldn’t you show some effort given the current situation?”

What did he mean?

As Luciana tilted her head at the Crown Prince’s puzzling request…

“Isn’t the current gloomy atmosphere because the Speda family’s servant died? The party is like this. Tsk, as their master, you should step in to manage it.”

It felt like the thread of her rationality was snapping in an instant.

His words were simple.

Luciana should personally step up to manage this situation, lift the mood, and create the noble party atmosphere they deserved.

“Excuse me.”

“No, wait. I haven’t finished talking…”

“I’m sorry, but I am not qualified to manage it as I am still grieving the loss of my cherished servant.”

In an exceptionally cold tone, she added venomously,

‘Such a person is the Crown Prince of a country.’

“I don’t know if Your Highness can understand my feelings.”

“…What do you mean by that?”

“It would be better if you had a truly loyal servant by your side.”

To his question, she twisted her lips into an uncharacteristic sneer.

Just as her servant had been, it was a raw expression, with nothing hidden behind a fan.

While the Crown Prince was momentarily taken aback, she hurriedly left the banquet hall.

It was a great discourtesy.

She neither sought permission from the host nor hinted for someone to relay her message.

But nothing mattered to Luciana.

‘I’m so tired…’

Luciana murmured quietly with an expressionless face.

She just wanted to lie down on her bed and rest quietly where no one could see her.

However, an unexpected guest awaited her, preventing that.

“You have come, descendant of the great warrior.”

“Vampire.”

“Sigh. As I expected, you look quite haggard, don’t you?”

A vampire dressed in maid’s clothes.

She was always attached to her servant, and now she was waiting in her room with her hands clasped together.

Carmine, the third son of Duke Komalon, had been in a foul mood for the past week.

While the recent broken engagement was part of the reason, what was really getting under his skin was Count Palatio.

At the latest banquet, he tried to relieve his stress by antagonizing Count Palatio, only to end up publicly humiliated.

Of course, it was entirely Carmine’s fault.

If he hadn’t made inappropriate comments about the appearance of another noblewoman, the engagement talks would have gone smoothly.

And if he hadn’t provoked Count Palatio, he wouldn’t have faced such disgrace.

However, Carmine had completely forgotten that he had instigated the conflict.

He only focused on the humiliation he had suffered, replaying the incident over and over in his mind.

It was the first time in his life he had experienced such shame.

After all, as the son of Duke Komalon, a cornerstone of the kingdom, he had never faced such humiliation before, and that moment had left a deep mark on his memory.

For about ten days, Carmine would often grind his teeth while recalling the event.

As soon as he arrived at the Komalon estate, he spoke, as if making a decision.

“Hey.”

“Yes, young master?”

“Where did that bastard say he was going?”

“The last I heard, Count Palatio had some business in Caliban—”

Without listening to the knight finish, Carmine hurried into his room and opened a desk drawer.

Inside were numerous crystal balls.

He picked the one from the far right and immediately took out a magic stone from his pocket, bringing it close to the crystal ball.

As the crystal began to glow brightly, time passed, and the light started to dim.

[Well, if it isn’t my friend Carmine!]

A voice came from the crystal.

“I’ll get straight to the point. I need your help.”

Carmine spoke while holding the magic crystal.

[Hmm? You need help? With what?]

“Count Palatio. He’s probably on his way right now. I need you to deal with him.”

[Deal with him? You mean Count Palatio?]

The person on the other end, confused by the situation, asked again.

“You don’t have to kill him. Just leave him half-dead.”

There was a brief silence from the man in the crystal before he spoke.

[Even so, that’s a bit—]

“I’ll give you five.”

[…What?]

“If you take care of him, I’ll give you five more. You need them, don’t you? To get stronger.”

[Ha…]

The man in the crystal let out a dry laugh at Carmine’s words.

[Are you serious? You can get me five of those?]

“If you get the job done properly, it’s no problem.”

The man in the crystal remained silent for a moment.

“You can do it, can’t you?”

[Ha…]

Then, as if amused, the man chuckled.

[My friend, you know me too well. You always know exactly how to get to me!]

“Are you going to do it or not?”

[All I have to do is take care of him, right?]

“Yeah. As brutally as possible.”

[Wow, he must have really pissed you off to ask this much. Anyway, got it. I’ll take care of it and contact you once it’s done.]

With those words, the communication ended.

The room fell silent, as if the conversation that just took place had never happened.

But there was one difference.

A sly grin spread across Carmine’s face.

‘Did he really think I’d let him off after publicly humiliating me?’

That was the only thought occupying his mind.

***

“Have we finally arrived?”

“Looks like it.”

It had been about two weeks since Alon met Eliban, the protagonist of this world.

Looking out at the capital city of Kirdam in the distance, Alon shifted his gaze to the back of the carriage.

Various gifts were loaded there, all meant for Deus, the person they were about to meet.

“Ugh, I’m exhausted,” yawned Evan from beside him, clearly tired as he glanced at the gifts.

Alon, too, felt the fatigue, just as Evan said.

“Long journeys are always tiring.”

“…It would have been a lot more peaceful if we hadn’t gone to that labyrinth-like place.”

Their tiredness was not only from the long journey, but also because Alon had made several stops in the past week.

“It was necessary.”

That was Alon’s only reply to Evan.

In truth, the reason they had made all those stops on the way to Caliban was to prepare for the upcoming battle with Outer God.

The lotus-shaped necklace now hanging around Alon’s neck, which hadn’t been there two weeks ago, was part of those preparations.

Ignoring Evan’s gaze, Alon changed the subject.

“Deus has returned from his expedition, right?”

“Yes, he should be here.”

Alon fell silent for a moment before asking, “…He’ll meet with me, won’t he?”

“…I’m sure he will,” Evan replied, though Alon remained slightly skeptical.

‘It’s not just about meeting him… the real challenge is getting him to agree to my request…’

Alon had provided Deus with a great deal of financial support over the years and even saved him from what could have been a disastrous situation.

In terms of pure cause and effect, Alon was definitely in the position of a benefactor.

But realistically, from Deus’s perspective, Alon was probably just a faceless person who had generously spent money to help him from afar.

After all, Alon had never actually met Deus in person.

Without any direct interaction, it was hard to expect any real closeness, so now that he was finally in Kirdam, Alon couldn’t help but feel a little anxious.

‘I can only hope the gifts will win him over.’

As Alon mulled over his thoughts, they finally reached the northern gate of Kirdam, where they joined the line for inspection, just like any other travelers entering the capital.

Even though he was a noble in the Asteria Kingdom, when traveling abroad, inspections were mandatory for everyone.

After briefly explaining his identity to the soldier conducting the inspection, Alon waited for Evan to finish as the line of carriages slowly moved forward.

“Excuse me, Count?”

“Yes?”

“There seems to be a slight problem.”

Evan leaned his head into the carriage, speaking, which made Alon tilt his head in confusion. He nodded slightly and stepped down from the carriage, where he was greeted by a knight with an overly confident expression.

The knight had red hair and a lion crest on his chest, exuding an air of arrogance. As Alon looked at him curiously, the knight spoke.

“Are you Count Palatio?”

“That’s correct.”

Though they had never met, the knight spoke informally, as if the facial expressions in this fantasy world were enough to reveal a person’s personality.

As Alon replied, Evan leaned in to whisper into his ear.

“That knight seems to be a disciple of Fiola.”

“…Fiola?”

“Yes, you know, the Fourth Sword.”

At Evan’s words, Alon finally let out a low murmur of realization.

A master knight known as the Fourth Sword, Fiola, came to Alon’s mind, and though he nodded, he still wore a puzzled expression.

“So, why is the disciple of the Fourth Sword here? …And with a whole group of knights?”

As Alon glanced around, he noticed several other knights wearing the same lion crest as Fiola.

“…What business do you have with me?”

Turning back to Fiola’s disciple, Alon asked. The knight, who had been leisurely walking toward him with a smirk, finally introduced himself.

“First of all, I’m Vilan, a direct disciple of Sir Fiola.”

“And?”

“I’ve heard that my friend owes you a small debt.”

“Friend?”

When Alon asked, Vilan smiled and continued.

“Yes, a friend.”

“I don’t recall having any significant connections here in Caliban.”

“My friend doesn’t have any particular ties to Caliban either. He’s from the Kingdom of Ashtalon.”

At those words, Alon instinctively muttered, “Ashtalon Kingdom…? Huh?”

But then he quickly remembered and let out a low, understanding sigh.

“…Carmine?”

“That’s right, you remember. He contacted me.”

Hearing Vilan’s words, Alon couldn’t hide his disbelief.

‘Wait, I didn’t do anything to that guy! …Wait, how long has it been? A few weeks?’

For a moment, Alon was impressed by the petty thug Carmine running to his friends to complain within just over two weeks.

“I also owe him a bit, so I have to at least make an appearance.”

“So, you’ve been waiting here all this time just to make that ‘appearance’?”

“To be precise, I’ve been waiting for word. All carriages from the Kingdom of Asteria pass through this gate.”

Alon felt a wave of dizziness at Vilan’s nonchalant words, as if apologizing for the inconvenience, but not really meaning it.

Even though nobility’s influence diminishes significantly in foreign lands, it wasn’t to the extent that one would be treated like this at the gates.

“So, what’s your plan?”

“I’ll give you two choices. Those valuable-looking goods in your carriage—how about gifting them all to us?”

“And the other choice?”

“Spend about three weeks in the underground dungeon.”

“…You’re well aware that I’m a noble from another country, aren’t you?”

Alon asked, knowing that imprisoning a foreign noble without cause would undoubtedly cause trouble.

“I am Sir Fiola’s only direct disciple.”

Vilan’s next words left Alon dumbfounded.

What Vilan was essentially saying was, “I can cause a ruckus, and because of my status, I’ll face no consequences.”

The ridiculous part was that Vilan’s statement held some truth. Here, Alon was merely a foreign noble, but Vilan was the sole direct disciple of a master knight.

‘Unbelievable, birds of a feather really do flock together.’

Alon sighed, realizing that this bunch of thugs were perfectly matched for each other. Just as Alon sighed, Vilan gave a wicked smile.

“But to be honest, no matter which option you choose, the result will be the same.”

Vilan lightly tapped Alon’s stomach with the hilt of his sword.

“After all, my friend only asked for one thing.”

Vilan casually threatened Alon.

Evan, who had been silent until now, slowly began to scowl. He instinctively reached for the sword at his waist when—

“Huh, huh~!”

A voice called out from behind, causing both Alon and Vilan to turn their heads.

There, Alon saw him.

‘Deus Macallian…?’

Dressed in black iron armor, wearing a cold expression, Deus was walking toward them.

The moment he appeared, the atmosphere at the gate grew heavy, as if the air itself was weighed down.

Despite the fact that it was just one person arriving, the soldiers straightened their postures, eyes wide in shock. Even the knights, who had been wearing relaxed expressions moments ago, now stood upright, their faces tense.

“Attention!”

The soldiers, who had been casually observing the situation, immediately raised their swords in salute upon seeing Deus, but he didn’t spare them a glance.

“We greet the Great Sword!”

The knights of Vilan’s group, ‘Yuzon,’ shouted in reverence, but Deus ignored them as well.

Instead, he walked directly toward Alon.

Seeing this, Vilan hurriedly pulled back the sword he had pointed at Alon, trying to speak, but—

Crash!

“Gah!”

Deus’s hand shot out and grabbed Vilan by the throat.

“W-What—!”

Vilan quickly reached for Deus’s hand in protest, but—

“What do you think you’re doing?”

At those cold words, Vilan’s face turned pale as he struggled to breathe, his eyes wide with fear.

“How dare you lay a hand on my benefactor.”

“Now, with this, it’s completely Mr. Kyu-seong’s property,” said the guild staff with a smile, holding the stamped documents. I thanked him and, having finished all my errands at Ara Hongryeon, stepped outside.

“Hats!”

“Yes, let’s go buy hats now. If we’re going to China, we need to wear pretty hats.”

“Okay!”

The urgent issues in the dungeon were mostly resolved. Although there were still problems with the goblins’ fields and villages, we decided to proceed slowly but surely.

‘Materials from the mine, and my father’s village plans…’

I would need Kkumuris’s help again, but with more diverse materials and a well-thought-out plan this time. Unlike the initial slime village, the goblin village had over 500 residents, so careful planning was necessary.

Therefore, there was no need to rush. After all, the goblins were already living comfortably in the makeshift buildings built by Kkumuris.

“First, then…”

I called my father. He picked up immediately, taking a break from his work.

“Yes, Father, it’s me.”

“Yes?”

“I mentioned that I received some land, right? I’m planning to level the mountain and create a road. Could you help with that?”

“I’ll look into it.”

“Thank you.”

It was a brief call, as expected of my father. With that, Ara and I headed out to shop. Since we were in Seoul, I thought we should take the chance to look around and buy some gifts to take to China. The trip was scheduled for tomorrow. It was a bit rushed, but we only planned to stay for a couple of days.

‘I’m a bit worried about Ryu Cheon.’

I could already imagine Ryu Cheon being disappointed that she couldn’t spend more time with Ara, but there was no helping it.

“Oh!”

Ara, holding my hand, suddenly pointed to something she had discovered. It was a street vendor selling fish-shaped bread and egg bread.

“Wow, it’s been a while.”

I used to eat these often when I was younger, but I hadn’t seen them in a while.

We approached the vendor and bought 20 pieces of each.

“Twenty?”

“Yes.”

The vendor asked again to confirm, and I nodded. There were about ten pieces already made, so I asked if we could start eating those. The vendor agreed.

“Here you go.”

“Wow!”

Ara’s ears perked up with joy. She held an egg bread in one hand and a fish-shaped bread in the other, taking a big bite.

“Yum!”

“Is it good?”

“Yes!”

Ara answered contentedly and continued eating. The vendor, who was casually making more bread, gradually widened his eyes at the sight.

“Wow.”

“My child eats well, doesn’t she? Haha.”

I laughed awkwardly.

“Excuse me, could we get ten more of each?”

“What? Oh, sure, your daughter has a great appetite.”

“Yes, she eats well, which is why she’s so pretty.”

The owner, seemingly at a loss for words, quickly made more bread. However, as soon as he made it, it was snatched up by Ara and devoured. In the end, including what I ate, we ended up eating all 30 pieces of each type of bread without leaving a single one behind.

“You really have a good appetite.”

“It was delicious!”

Ara gave a thumbs-up with a smile. Meanwhile, a crowd had suddenly gathered and was whispering as they watched Ara.

“Could it be…?”

“Isn’t that Ara?”

Huh? Someone here knows Ara? I turned to look at the crowd. They didn’t seem like people from Ara Hongryeon; they were all unfamiliar faces.

“Excuse me… Is that Ara?”

“Yes? Oh, yes. She is Ara.”

“I am Ara!”

Ara raised her arms and shouted. The eyes of the gathered crowd lit up.

“Oh! It really is Ara! I’m a fan!”

“Fan? Fan!”

Ara tilted her head, then a light bulb seemed to go off above her head.

“You like me?”

“Ah! So cute!”

“Wow, I can’t believe I’m seeing Ara in person.”

Most of them were women. Soon, people started asking me if they could take pictures with Ara.

“Ara, is it okay to take pictures?”

“It’s fine.”

Before we knew it, the area in front of the vendor turned into a photo zone. Thanks to this, people were buying the fish-shaped and egg bread, making the vendor smile as he watched the scene.

“Kimchi~!”

“Kimchi? Kimchi is for eating.”

“Cheese~!”

“Cheese! Cheese is for eating too!”

People laughed joyfully at Ara’s chatter. After a short fan meeting, we waved goodbye to the crowd.

“Kyu-seong! Kyu-seong!”

“Yes? What is it?”

“Why do these people like me?”

“Because you’re cute, Ara.”

“Hmm. I am cute. But I’m also dignified and cool, right?”

Ara, who seemed to be pondering why she didn’t exude majesty, looked so adorable with her round face. Unable to resist, I lifted her up and rubbed my cheek against hers, making her burst into laughter.

We continued wandering around Seoul, looking at hats and eating street food. From time to time, people who recognized Ara would ask for photos.

“There are so many hats! Hehe!”

Ara, smiling contentedly, was wearing a newly bought hat. It had been customized right there in the shop, with tiger ears standing up proudly.

“We bought four hats! Our Ara must be so happy.”

“Hehe!”

But Ara, why is your laugh starting to sound like Brother Hanul’s?

Dad is a bit worried.

We bought some small gifts to bring to the Skyscraper and were thinking of heading back when I noticed the crowd seemed to be growing.

‘It’s not just a feeling; the crowd is really getting bigger.’

It was like a procession following a celebrity, with people trailing us wherever we went.

“There are so many people!”

Ara said in amazement, but seeing the phones recording us, I realized it wasn’t just a crowd.

Then, I got a call from Seon-ah at just the right moment.

“Hello?”

“Brother, are you in Sinsa-dong right now?”

“Yeah, how did you know?”

“How do you think? News about Ara showing up there is spreading everywhere!”

“Ah, so that’s why there are so many people.”

It seemed that word had spread that Ara was here. I couldn’t believe Ara had so many fans that rumors were spreading about her.

‘Well, it’s no wonder. Our Ara’s cuteness is world-class.’

While I was thinking nonsense, Seon-ah spoke up.

“Give some fan service, but make sure Ara doesn’t get too tired.”

“Okay.”

After hanging up the call, another round of photo-taking with Ara began. I worried she might get tired, but it was unnecessary.

“Hehe.”

Ara was a multi-talented individual with mental fortitude and exceptional physical abilities. If anyone would get tired, it would be me, not Ara.

“Aren’t we causing too much trouble?”

“Everyone! Maybe it’s time we let Ara rest?”

Thankfully, before I wore myself out, the fans took it upon themselves to manage the crowd. I almost teared up at their considerate actions.

“Goodbye!”

“Goodbye, Ara!”

“I hope we can meet again! I’ll treasure this photo.”

“I watch your YouTube videos every day! Thank you!”

After saying goodbye to the fans, we squeezed through the crowd and got on the bus. I think it’s time to buy a car.

‘Who would have thought so many people would recognize Ara?’

Of course, I’m grateful to Ara’s fans. It means they love her. But if we go out like this a few more times, I might be the one who collapses first. I definitely need to buy a car. While it won’t completely avoid the crowds, at least the journey home will be more comfortable.

“Ara, we’ll be flying again tomorrow.”

“Oh! Are we going to see Ryu Cheon?”

“Yes.”

“Ryu Cheon is my fan! We’re going for a fan meeting!”

Ara, who had learned the word ‘fan meeting,’ used it immediately. I found it so cute that I nodded with a smile.

“Yes, let’s go for a fan meeting.”

Ryu Cheon’s secretary, Yu Bihong, said we could look forward to it, and I was curious about what they had prepared.

***

After finishing the call with Kyu-seong, Seon-ah went back to surfing the internet. She was browsing Ara’s fan cafe.

“Oh, pictures are being uploaded!”

Seon-ah had found out about Ara and Kyu-seong being in Sinsa-dong from the fan cafe, and she couldn’t hide her delight at the cute pictures of Ara that were being uploaded.

“Oh, I need to read this to Ara.”

Something came to mind, and Seon-ah closed the fan cafe and checked her email. Since starting the YouTube channel, Ara occasionally received letters, but she hadn’t delivered them yet.

“Hmm?”

While checking her inbox, Seon-ah found a fresh email that had just arrived. Thinking it was another fan letter, she opened it.

“What? Iron Blood?!”

It was from Iron Blood Entertainment, a subsidiary of the Iron Blood Group. Seon-ah was astonished to see an email from such an unexpected place. However, her initial shock was nothing compared to what she felt after reading the content.

“They want to make Ara a celebrity?”

More precisely, an advertisement model and child actor. They suggested meeting at a convenient time to discuss details. Seon-ah’s excitement was palpable.

“Mom!”

“What?!”

“Come here and look at this! This!”

Kim Hyun-mi came over at her daughter’s call. Thinking it was just another of Seon-ah’s usual outbursts, she approached with a calm expression.

“What is it this time?”

“This! A talent agency sent Ara a casting offer!”

“A casting offer? Are you saying they contacted her to become an actress?”

“That’s right!”

In her excitement, Seon-ah’s voice rose, and Kim Hyun-mi had to calm her down.

“Calm down for a moment. Let’s read it first.”

“Okay, okay!”

After reading the email, Kim Hyun-mi also realized it wasn’t a scam. She soon let her imagination run wild.

‘Our Ara on TV?’

What if she appeared in commercials or as a child actor in the dramas they often watched? She imagined boasting to everyone in the neighborhood.

Not only that, she imagined putting up banners in the neighborhood.

Her imagination proved that not only Seon-ah and Kyu-seong were not the only ones excited.

“Did you contact them?”

“Of course not! I just saw it too.”

“Let’s contact Kyu-seong first.”

“Yes! He would approve, right?”

Both Seon-ah and Kim Hyun-mi were already imagining Ara as a top star, walking proudly on the red carpet.

“Hehehe.”

“Hahaha.”

They didn’t know that Kyu-seong had already returned to the dungeon early to prepare for his trip to China the next day.

For Stella, Aiden Kellermain had been the source of non-stop work throughout the entire day.

Most of it was because Lady Noel, whom she deeply respected, had been preoccupied with this man, which created a ripple effect that Stella had to deal with. And frankly, she wasn’t too happy about it.

“-Mr. Aiden.”

In that sense, there was absolutely no need for him to leave such a dramatic new mess for her to clean up.

“What is the meaning of this?”

Stella spoke in disbelief.

Right in front of her lay Prince Daniel, covered in blood, wheezing for breath.

He was conscious, but clearly unable to speak.

As for the man who had reduced the prince to this state, he simply shrugged his shoulders.

“Would you believe me if I said there’s a good reason for this?”

“The reason had better be good enough to justify gravely injuring a member of the royal family.”

Stella’s voice was sharp and firm.

Even if Daniel was effectively in exile, he was still royalty. This was more than enough to spark a diplomatic crisis.

“And it will be up to you to prove any wrongdoing. The power of royalty—”

But Aiden’s response completely derailed her line of thinking.

“Do we really need to prove it?”

“…What?”

Stella blinked, caught off guard, as Aiden spoke in a composed manner.

“Even royalty can be stripped of their status if they commit crimes beyond a certain degree, right?”

“That’s true, but why are you bringing this up now?”

“Do you remember the recent kidnapping case involving the daughter of Baron Cromwell in the capital?”

“Yes, it caused quite a stir. The young and beautiful daughter of the baron was kidnapped and went missing.”

Stella’s expression hardened even further.

Not only was the topic disconnected from their current conversation, but what was more concerning was Daniel’s reaction to it.

Despite his severe injuries, the prince flinched noticeably, as if struck by lightning, at the mention of the kidnapping.

It was as though he had been suddenly confronted with an evil he never expected to be exposed.

“If the perpetrator is here, wouldn’t that make things interesting?”

No way.

That’s impossible… right?

It seemed far-fetched that a member of the royal family, while exiled to a foreign land, would be involved in kidnapping a noble of that nation.

If it were true, it would be a serious crime—one worthy of being stripped of his royal status.

“Do you have any proof?”

“I don’t, but there’s a way to find out.”

“…What?”

“Even just confirming whether or not he’s lying would be evidence, wouldn’t it?”

Stella’s eyes narrowed.

Indeed, there was something capable of that.

But the fact that this man, standing before her so casually, was aware of it was in itself suspicious.

“Soldier.”

Still squinting her eyes, Stella called out to a nearby guard.

“Go to the lab on the first floor and bring something called the ‘Detector.’”

“Yes, ma’am!”

The guard’s response was slower than usual, likely because he too had instinctively realized something—this situation was far from ordinary.

And his instincts were not wrong.

It didn’t take long for Prince Daniel’s desperate denials of his involvement in the crime to be completely exposed by the Empire’s secret “lie detector” technology.

“Unbelievable.”

Stella could only let out a sigh of frustration.

For two reasons.

First, the rapid series of events that had unfolded in an instant had now turned into a massive scandal that would reach the Imperial Palace.

And second, she was now guaranteed to work overtime.

The ensuing investigation proceeded swiftly.

When they thoroughly searched Prince Daniel’s residence and the places he had frequented, they found Lady Cromwell’s clothing and personal belongings.

Not only were there traces of his efforts to cover up his crimes, but also evidence of various other ‘miscellaneous’ crimes.

“That concludes the report.”

As Stella finished her report, Noel massaged her temples with a weary sigh.

“What did the Holy Kingdom say?”

“They expressed their gratitude.”

“…What?”

“They said that because of their internal laws, they had no choice but to keep that disgrace of a prince in the royal family, and they thanked us for finally freeing them from him. They even mentioned that if Aiden ever comes to the Holy Kingdom, they’d treat him to the highest level of hospitality.”

The Pope, the leader of the Holy Kingdom, is renowned for being the most eccentric of all the Popes in history.

Just from this response, his reputation clearly lives up to its name.

“There’s actually something even more serious.”

“What is it?”

“[Deathwish] has taken an interest in Mr. Aiden.”

“…”

“She hinted that she’d like to have a meal with him sometime, in a very friendly manner. True to her nature as an ambitious schemer, she moves swiftly when she finds someone she likes.”

Noel ran a hand through her hair, clearly exhausted.

“Deathwish, huh.”

“Yes.”

“You mean the second princess of the Holy Kingdom? The one who’ll stop at nothing, even killing her own brother, just for a chance to seize the papal throne.”

“Yes.”

“The woman who’s supposedly more skilled at wielding divine powers than the current Pope?”

“…Yes.”

The fact that such information came in not even a full day after the incident hinted at the scale of what was to come.

The events of today were already spreading like wildfire among the ambitious power players, gathering every scrap of information they could.

“I don’t understand why she’s so interested in Aiden. He’s just a regular con artist.”

Regular…?

Stella raised an eyebrow, but Noel continued speaking nonchalantly.

“He single-handedly destroyed a Holy Kingdom royal wielding pure divine energy with a single punch, immediately uncovered the crimes they were trying to hide, and casually suggested using a highly classified tool that only someone in the military could know about—even though he’s never been in the military in his life.”

“…Yes.”

“And then, following his suggestion, they found actual evidence.”

“It’s nothing special. I don’t see why everyone’s making such a fuss about it. Don’t you agree?”

Noel’s voice, half-resigned, made Stella fall silent.

Even from her perspective, these events were a string of baffling mysteries.

If this was all the work of one man who claimed to be a simple con artist, and it happened in less than a day…

Hmm.

“Um, Lady Noel, if I may ask…”

“Hmm?”

“Where in the world did you find someone like him?”

‘To be honest, even I’m not sure anymore. Was he always like this?’

At this point, his actions were far too removed from the background he claimed to have.

Stella no longer questioned why Noel had brought someone like Aiden along—everything he had done in the past day silenced any doubts.

The problem, however, was that even Noel herself seemed deeply unsettled by the current situation.

‘How?’

Naturally, if a royal was determined to cover up their crimes, uncovering them would be like threading a needle.

Especially crimes so filthy and twisted that the culprit would go to any lengths to avoid leaving any traces behind.

And the fact that Aiden knew about the classified military tool was even stranger than that.

At this point, it was like shoving an elephant through the eye of a needle.

Noel was more than familiar with the infamous security protocols of the military. If something was classified, it meant no outsider had ever been informed of its existence—this paranoia was well-documented.

And yet…

Aiden knew both secrets.

How?

That was the only question that kept running through Noel’s mind.

Just how much does he know? How far does his knowledge go?

The more she thought about it, the more confused she became.

Who in the world is this man?

Where did he come from…?

“Lady Noel.”

Stella’s voice interrupted Noel’s spiraling thoughts.

She hesitated, which was unusual for her, and continued until Noel glanced at her curiously.

Finally, the words spilled out.

“There’s one more thing I’m curious about.”

“Curious?”

“How did the fight even start in the first place? Do you know?”

“Roughly speaking, didn’t the prince provoke him first?”

According to Sir Lester, who was present at the scene, it was something like this: Prince Daniel, displeased with the Lionheart’s groom, started a fight, and Aiden retaliated.

The person involved probably gave the most straightforward account of the situation, but summarizing it could make it sound something like this:

“Aiden supposedly lost his temper after being insulted as unworthy of being Lady Noel’s husband and lashed out.”

“I’ve gained a bit more respect for him. There’s a manly side to him after all.”

Words always have a way of being interpreted differently depending on how they’re said.

The moment Noel heard this report, a strange twist appeared at the corner of her mouth.

“He liked me that much?”

“There’s no one on this planet who wouldn’t like you, Lady Noel, but it is odd. His attitude now is very different from how he acted initially.”

“It is strange. We weren’t even acquaintances before—”

Noel suddenly stopped talking.

A recent memory flashed through her mind.

—“It seems like you don’t remember the old days, huh? Like when you were a child.”

—“Oh, it’s nothing. I didn’t expect you to have really forgotten.”

Those words.

That man said them.

“Lady Noel? Are you all right?”

Stella’s concerned voice snapped her back to the present.

Noel quickly composed herself, closing her eyes for a brief moment.

“No.”

Then, with a bitter smile curling her lips, she spoke quietly.

“We might have… known each other.”

“Pardon?”

“It’s nothing.”

With that, Noel fell into silence for a moment before opening her eyes and speaking again.

In the Craven Holy Kingdom, royalty held a particularly special meaning.

Of course, being a royal of one of the continent’s most powerful nations was inherently remarkable, but even beyond that, they were unique in another way.

“Lester. Go keep watch.”

How special? So special that they could order around a paladin—one of the kingdom’s top forces—for trivial errands without raising much objection.

Being assigned as a royal’s guard was usually considered a prestigious duty, but anyone would think twice if the royal in question was an idiot like this.

Prince Daniel Craven, the seventh prince.

Known as the biggest troublemaker among the royals of the Holy Kingdom.

‘He’s been saying for a while now how much he wants the Lionheart…’

The Lionheart’s husband was likely a position coveted by influential figures across the continent.

Yet here was Daniel, someone who had clearly shown his disgraceful desire for the empire’s greatest treasure, despite it being well beyond his reach.

It was obvious that, seeing this weak-looking fiancé Lady Noel had brought, he was simply looking to take out his frustration.

“Your Highness, no matter how upset you are—”

Lady Noel’s fiancé was a VIP.

Causing trouble for someone like that could easily escalate into an international incident between the two nations.

But clearly, Daniel wasn’t someone who cared much about such real-world concerns.

“The divinity you wield, who did you swear it to?”

Daniel snapped sharply, causing Lester’s mouth to shut.

Right. That was the problem.

Each nation’s warriors wielded different powers, and those powers had completely different natures.

And the source of all these powers ultimately came from one thing:

The divine blessings granted by each nation’s patron deity.

All powers stemmed from the divine authority the gods of the pantheon had bestowed upon the mortal world.

The issue was that, in the Holy Kingdom, much of this divine power was concentrated within the royal family.

Even Lester’s current abilities were borrowed from this reckless prince.

‘And yet here he is, exiled all the way to the Empire.’

It was clear that having someone like Lester, who carried the kingdom’s divine power, stranded in a foreign land spoke volumes about the situation.

It was essentially an exile—a demand for him to go and “get his act together.”

This only further highlighted what an irredeemable troublemaker Daniel was.

“What are you standing around for? I told you to go keep watch!”

Despite all this, Daniel seemed determined to cause trouble, and Lester internally screamed in frustration.

After all, he had no right to refuse. Even if the prince was a scoundrel, he was still royalty.

“…Yes, Your Highness.”

In other words, the royal family’s divine power was so overwhelming that even a paladin, one of the kingdom’s most powerful warriors, had to yield to it.

‘Poor guy.’

With a silent prayer for Aiden’s soul, Lester turned and left.

Daniel strode toward Aiden, and as he did, the divine energy within him began to swell ominously.

If the god of war, Karva, had bestowed upon the Empire’s warriors the ability to wield internal energy, then the blessing Seor, the god of purification, had given to his followers was fire that could burn anything.

Of course, in Daniel’s case, he had no idea how to properly wield such power, like putting a pearl necklace on a pig.

Yet, even a pearl necklace had value on its own.

Properly honed divine energy was a shield and sword in one. Just touching it could easily melt the flesh of an ordinary person.

Aiden’s expression tightened.

One of the universally known facts:

When a royal of the Holy Kingdom unleashed their divine power, it was essentially a declaration of intent to actively harm the other party.

In fact, it could be considered an even greater threat than when Gael had drawn his sword against him.

“I just don’t understand.”

Daniel, arms crossed, circled Aiden like a predator, his steps dripping with mockery and arrogance.

“Why would a woman of the Lionheart’s caliber settle for such a weak man as her husband, huh?”

“Tell me, commoner. Did you seduce her? Did you, with that pretty face of yours, play the role of a gold-digging snake?”

Lester ran a hand over his burning face, embarrassed by the sheer audacity of the insult.

The surprising part was that, instead of immediately resorting to violence using his divine powers, Daniel was still content to just run his mouth.

“…Ah, I see.”

This was a deliberate provocation.

The prince was trying to make Aiden lose his temper and strike first, so he could claim self-defense and justify whatever came next.

It seems the prince wasn’t entirely ignorant of the consequences—he still feared the repercussions from the Holy Kingdom itself.

Even though Aiden was the one being provoked, a royal from the Holy Kingdom held enough power to cover up such minor faults.

No matter how reckless a prince Daniel was, if he could claim that he was struck first, burying his opponent would be a simple matter.

“I wish that were the case.”

“…”

“Then at least introduce me to someone else who can run for me in my place.”

This guy isn’t ordinary.

Both Lester and Daniel had the same thought when they heard Aiden’s blunt reply, delivered without a single flinch.

Of course, for Aiden, who had been dragged into this fake marriage against his will, this position as the groom held no greater meaning than that.

“If the Lionheart hears about this, you’ll be in trouble. Don’t you even know what honor is? I would have been a better choice than someone like you.”

For Daniel, someone talking about honor felt ironic, and it made Aiden’s eyes gleam with amusement.

“Would you like to take my place?”

Daniel, who had been sneering and provoking, was suddenly left speechless by Aiden’s response.

‘What’s with this guy?’

It was as if Aiden was genuinely treating the marriage to the Lionheart as nothing more than a burden.

An opportunity that any man on the continent would envy was nothing to him.

And that stung Daniel’s pride.

He couldn’t get close to his coveted goal, while this man seemed to view it as something disposable.

The sentence that escaped from his gritted teeth was full of suppressed fury.

“Shut up, you filthy worm. A lowborn like you dares to speak to royalty with such disrespect?”

“And yet, let’s leave my family out of this. Even as royalty, you should at least have some sense of honor.”

Wait.

Hold on.

That stung.

Hearing Aiden’s cold words, Daniel felt a chill and was momentarily taken aback.

His reaction was the complete opposite of when his marriage to the Lionheart had been mentioned earlier.

But soon, Daniel’s expression turned into a smug grin.

“Honor? Honor, you say?”

If he was going to get mad like this, all he had to do was steer the conversation in the right direction.

“A lowborn worm who inherited nothing but filth from his scum of a father and mother dares speak of nobility in front of royalty?”

Wow.

Even Lester, momentarily forgetting his duty, sighed at the utter vulgarity of Daniel’s words.

After hearing this, Aiden’s face went completely blank.

“What’s the matter, commoner? Can’t refute the truth, can you?”

This time, instead of replying, Aiden silently looked Daniel up and down, as if calculating something in his head.

It was as though he was organizing his thoughts.

“I think this’ll do.”

He muttered to himself and began carefully measuring the distance between himself and Daniel with his eyes.

“Huh?”

Lester, a trained warrior, immediately recognized the look in Aiden’s eyes and widened his own.

This look…

It was like someone inexperienced in fighting was calculating how best to land a painful blow.

Of course, Aiden was clearly untrained and unlikely to accomplish much, but still…

Something felt off.

Something strange was going on.

A sinking feeling told Lester that something bad was about to happen and he needed to intervene.

“Wait, sir…!”

But before Lester could step in…

“Your Highness.”

Aiden smiled.

It was a bright, white smile, showing off his perfect teeth, but to Lester, it looked like the unsettling grin of someone who had lost all reason.

“I hope you know a good dentist.”

“Huh?”

Before Daniel could fully comprehend what Aiden meant…

Pure white energy burst into view in front of his eyes.

In hindsight, this was exactly what Daniel had been aiming for.

He had successfully provoked Aiden into striking first, drawing out the attack he wanted.

The problem was…

‘Wait, what…!’

It worked too well.

Aiden’s fist, wrapped in a brilliant burst of pure white energy, tore through Daniel’s divine aura as if it were paper and slammed into the prince’s left cheek.

Without a doubt, it was a stunning blow, sending several of Daniel’s teeth flying through the air like dazzling stars.

There were too many questions to answer.

How was this man, seemingly untrained in any martial skill, able to wield the Lionheart’s signature pure white energy?

Why did he, despite possessing such power, appear to be an untrained civilian with no combat skills?

But more important than anything else right now was focusing on the present situation.

“…Sir.”

Lester called Aiden in a trembling voice.

His head was spinning.

Daniel was lying right beside him, blood pouring from his body as he was plastered against the wall, but that wasn’t the immediate concern.

The shock of what had just happened took precedence.

“What have you done…?”

Leaving someone in this state of unconsciousness wasn’t just a case of “hitting a royal.”

At the very least, this could escalate into a diplomatic dispute, and at worst, an all-out war.

The current political landscape of the continent was still reeling from the aftermath of previous wars.

And now, an imperial guest had turned a royal from the Holy Kingdom into a bloody mess?

No matter how you looked at it, this wasn’t something that could be brushed off lightly.

“First, stop calling me ‘sir.’ I’m no knight.”

How could someone capable of wielding such pure energy not be a knight?

Lester had the question ready on his lips, but Aiden cut him off before he could ask.

“More importantly, go call someone. He’ll die if you don’t.”

“What?”

“We need to clean this up.”

Aiden’s voice was surprisingly calm, considering what he had just done.

No, rather than calm—it was cold.

When he said ‘clean this up,’ it almost sounded like he was asking Lester to bring something to finish the job and make sure Daniel’s head was fully broken.

“This is a big deal, after all. We need to make sure everything is properly sorted out, don’t we?”

Lester looked into Aiden’s gleaming eyes and realized one thing for certain.

This man…

He must have a completely different personality when he’s angry.

“Suddenly? Wait, more importantly, in Caliban…?”

Evan, wearing a deeply confused expression, spoke while thinking for a moment.

Then, as if realizing something, he hesitantly opened his mouth.

“Don’t tell me you’re planning to go to the North?”

Evan spoke, recalling that Caliban was the closest country to where the northern barbarians resided.

“I’ll explain on the way. Just prepare first. The information I mentioned earlier, it’s accurate, right?”

“…If you’re talking about the person we discussed last time, yes. The information guild confirmed they’re in that village.”

Evan, speaking with an anxious expression.

“Then we’ll stop there before heading straight to Caliban.”

But at Alon’s firm statement, Evan, with a mixture of curiosity and resignation in his eyes, looked at him for a moment before leaving the room to follow orders.

“Haah…”

Alon let out a deep sigh, covering his face with his hand as if just thinking about it was exhausting.

It was because the descent of an Outer God was akin to a massive disaster that he desperately wished would never happen.

An Outer God.

These beings, known by various names across the continent of Psychedelia, were evils that, much like the Five Great Sins, merely descending into the world brought calamity.

For Alon, their descent alone was enough to shatter his future plans completely.

Once they began rampaging in earnest, they could easily destroy entire kingdoms.

Of course, with six kingdoms on the continent, the odds of being affected were about one-third.

But still, even thinking rationally, there was a 33.3% chance that he would lose his noble title and end up living as a beggar.

…In fact, by that point, living as a beggar might even be fortunate.

If an Outer God attacked Asteria, his chances of surviving were slim to none.

If, by some small chance, the Outer God destroyed two other kingdoms instead of Asteria, the situation might improve slightly, but it wouldn’t be ideal.

The collapse of two kingdoms would lead to the rapid fall of the United Kingdoms, and the surviving kingdoms would fight each other madly over worthless land tainted by the powers of the otherworld.

With tens of thousands of casualties and over a dozen heroes already lost to the Outer Gods, the remaining kingdoms would naturally weaken, and in the end, the Empire would devour them all.

In short, no matter how you looked at it, if an Outer God descended upon the United Kingdoms, Alon would have to give up his noble title.

And in some ways, the latter scenario might be even worse.

While the former would end quickly, the latter would drag him into a full-scale war.

Sure, some might suggest the United Kingdoms could band together in unity during such a crisis.

But having played this game long enough and having seen hundreds of scenarios, Alon could confidently shake his head.

In every scenario where an Outer God or one of the Five Great Sins destroyed even a single kingdom, the dissolution of the United Kingdoms was inevitable.

Other small details might change, but the collapse of the Union never did.

In other words, for Alon, to prevent his life plans from crumbling, he had to stop the Outer God before it reached the kingdom.

“…Hmph.”

As soon as Alon heard that an Outer God had descended, he knew he had to act immediately.

He had a plan.

“I have to resolve this within two months.”

When an Outer God first descends to the mortal world, it cannot fully wield its power as an avatar and requires a two-month stabilization period before it can awaken as a Saged God and fully access its abilities.

Thus, there was a small window of time before it became a Saged God, during which stopping it would be somewhat easier.

…Though, even before becoming a Saged God, it wasn’t exactly weak.

He quietly recalled a part of his mind, where all the game-related information, except for what was necessary, had gathered dust.

‘If it’s the North, then it would be the God of Duels, Ultultus. Before becoming a Saged God, he wouldn’t be able to use formation attacks, so that’s a bit of a relief. But normally, to purely suppress him with force, you’d absolutely need at least five Sword Masters and one Archmage…’

Alon silently shook his head.

Of course, gathering that kind of power was impossible in the current situation.

However, despite this, Alon’s expression didn’t falter.

Ever since the moment the monsters were possessed by a god, he had half-expected this situation to come. He already had a plan to eliminate the Outer God.

‘I’m not sure if it will go according to plan, but…’

There was no time to dwell on such things. After thinking this far, Alon opened a drawer in the inn where he was staying, took out some stationery, and immediately began writing a letter.

Ten minutes later.

‘…I guess I should prepare a gift as well.’

After finishing the letter, which was addressed to Master Knight Deus Makalian in Caliban, Alon stood up.

That late afternoon, two days before the banquet, Count Palatio left Duke Rotegre’s castle.

***

That night.

At Duke Altia’s rarely visited residence, which Duke Rotegre had kindly offered for her use, she finally arrived and was having a conversation with a man.

“You’re saying Count Palatio has already left?”

“Yes, that’s correct.”

When the man, Marquis Mardarnio, nodded, Duke Altia, or Loria, spoke again.

“So, how did it go?”

“Fortunately, he accepted the gift well.”

At the marquis’s words, Altia smiled.

“That’s a relief.”

For nobles, gifts are generally ceremonial and don’t hold much significance.

However, that only applies to trivial gifts. Expensive items, like relics, always carry deeper meanings.

In Marquis Mardarnio’s case, the gift he presented to the head of a new faction held a single message: ‘May I join your faction?’

Of course, directly asking would be more straightforward, but noble society is all about appearances.

For example, if someone were to ask directly and be rejected, it would be a blow to their dignity.

That’s why both the giver and the receiver communicate symbolically through what could essentially be called a bribe, making it easier for both parties to handle.

Accepting the gift means approval; rejecting it means refusal.

Of course, Count Palatio, or Alon, knew nothing of this.

He had only attended a ball once in his life, had no friends, and his father, who died of an overdose, left him ignorant of such matters.

As a result, Alon simply thought, ‘Even if they realize later, it’s not like I’ll see them often, and it’d be awkward to ask for it back after accepting, right?’ With that in mind, he readily took the gift, fully intending to keep it.

“Now we can officially align our interests.”

“It’s an honor.”

“How did the others fare?”

“Those who pledged their allegiance also accepted the gifts.”

Thanks to Alon’s ignorance and his willingness to keep the gifts, Altia was able to gain the support of the nobles she had given prior notice to.

“…Then we can start making serious moves now.”

With a small smile, she began preparing for the true formation of her faction.

***

Exactly one week after Alon left Duke Rotegre’s estate.

He arrived in Parkran, a small village in the northern part of the Kingdom of Ashtalon, located some distance from the Rotegre estate. Alon had come here for one reason.

“Hello!”

It was to meet the protagonist of this dark fantasy roguelike game, <Psychedelia>.

“Do you know who I am?”

“Uh, no?”

The reason Alon wanted to meet Eliban, the protagonist of the game, even though the Five Great Sins had already been eliminated and the protagonist was no longer essential, was simple.

Even without the Five Great Sins, the protagonist would still become famous, and Alon judged that it wouldn’t hurt to win his favor early on.

Especially now, with an Outer God having descended, Alon wanted the protagonist to grow quickly. So he came loaded with items to aid Eliban’s early growth.

“…Eliban, right?”

“Yes, that’s me!”

As Alon watched the boy speak with a bright smile, so cheerful that anyone might find it refreshing, he thought to himself, ‘He’s almost too good-looking for a guy… but, well, he looks just like the illustration.’

In <Psychedelia>, the player’s choices allowed them to freely adjust the protagonist’s gender. That thought briefly crossed Alon’s mind, but then he felt a strange sense of dissonance.

‘Was the protagonist always like this?’

Since <Psychedelia> was a dark fantasy game, he remembered that while Eliban’s personality was lively compared to other dark fantasy characters, he didn’t recall him being ‘this’ bright. He felt a bit puzzled.

But that feeling passed quickly.

“Take this.”

Alon naturally pulled out a few gold coins from his pocket and handed them to the boy.

“Huh? For me?”

Eliban’s eyes widened in disbelief as he received the gold coins, which were enough to support a typical household for two months.

But Alon didn’t stop there. He soon began handing over one item after another, explaining the gifts he had prepared for Eliban over the past week.

After a lengthy explanation and handing over all the items he had collected, Eliban, with a puzzled look, asked, “But… why are you giving me all this?”

Seeing Eliban’s confused expression, Alon hesitated for a moment before replying, “It’s an investment.”

“An investment?”

“Yeah. You’re going to be big one day.”

In truth, Alon was hoping that Eliban might deal with any future Outer Gods for him, but he didn’t voice that part.

“I’m Count Palatio,” Alon added, letting Eliban know the name of the benefactor he should be grateful to when he succeeded, before climbing into his carriage without hesitation.

“Thank you, Count… no, Sir Count!”

Eliban, looking bewildered by the sudden meeting and parting, soon watched the departing carriage and gave a respectful farewell.

Shortly afterward…

“…I can roughly guess what you’re trying to do, but isn’t this all a bit rushed?” Evan remarked, watching how quickly Alon had passed all the gifts to the protagonist.

“We don’t have time. Besides, he’s smart enough to figure it out.”

Alon spoke while recalling Eliban’s backstory. He had considered staying in the village for a few days to build rapport with Eliban, but unfortunately, time wasn’t on his side. So he made this choice, and Evan nodded in agreement.

“Yeah, well, he does seem incredibly talented. I mean, for a kid, his magic power is really strong.”

“…Huh? Magic power?”

“Yeah, you didn’t notice? It looked like his magic was oozing out of him. Plus, even though he’s dressed like a village boy, it seemed like he had an artifact with him too.”

Hearing Evan’s words, Alon recalled his memory of Eliban.

‘Come to think of it, I did sense a bit of magic power… But wasn’t Eliban supposed to be just a random village boy before starting his adventure?’

Recalling the game’s starting setup, Alon tilted his head in confusion.

It seemed odd for Eliban to have magic power and an artifact at this stage, but Alon brushed it off.

‘Well, he’s the protagonist, so I guess he can have a bit more talent than usual.’

With that thought, Alon stopped worrying about Eliban.

He had given everything he could, and if the protagonist became stronger, it would only benefit him.

After all, Eliban was one of the few characters with a kind heart in this cruel dark fantasy world.

Because of that…

“How long will it take to reach Caliban from here?”

“Hmm… about another week. Ten days at most if we’re delayed.”

“I wish I could get some help.”

Alon listened to Evan’s words as he headed toward Caliban.

Meanwhile, at the large mansion in the south of Caliban, Deus, who had returned from the northern expedition and was resting, was preparing to leave for the north again the next day because of “foreign news.”

“!”

After reading the letter,

“Vice-captain.”

“Yes.”

“The northern expedition is postponed for two weeks.”

He immediately gave the order.

“May I ask the reason for the postponement?”

At the vice-captain’s question, Deus fell silent for a moment.

“…Soon, a benefactor will arrive.”

He muttered those words.

Round 127

I put the soaked soybeans into a large cooking pot.

I filled the pot halfway with water and began to boil the beans over high heat.

After closing the lid and waiting for about 30 minutes, foam started to overflow.

I quickly opened the lid to calm the overflowing foam and reduced the heat to medium.

From this point, I had to be careful not to let the beans burn and continue boiling them for about three hours.

“Let’s take turns with Mom.”

“Yes.”

Three hours seemed like a long time, but it wasn’t that long once we got started.

Dad had already gone fishing with Ara, and the guests were exploring the dungeon.

Seon-ah? She was busy filming here and there and then went to film Ara fishing.

I left the pot with Mom for a while and set up the camping tent.

After placing various tools together, I called Jeong So-yeon and Kang Hanul.

“You can use this whenever you want to rest.”

“This is an amazing campsite! By the way, don’t we need to help?”

“It’s okay. Just help with shaping the soybean blocks when the beans are ready.”

“Haha! Got it!”

“Oh, and there’s a hot spring nearby. Would you like to check it out?”

“A hot spring?!”

Hanul, who had a stiff expression, nodded his head as if he was broken.

“A hot spring in the dungeon!”

“I’ll send a slime to guide you.”

I attached a slime that was playing around.

Jeong So-yeon, who was exploring the village, also heard about the hot spring and joined them.

“Is this place heaven?”

“It seems so. Heaven indeed comes to good people like Kyu-seong.”

After sending the two chattering away to the hot spring, I stayed and continued stirring the beans with a spatula.

As time passed, the beans became soft and ready with just a light touch.

“Is this done?”

“Yes, I think it’s all ready.”

“Thank you for your hard work, Mom.”

Since the preparation was complete, I gathered everyone.

When the fishing and hot spring parties returned, we saw the well-mashed beans.

“Now, everyone knows how to shape the soybean blocks, right? We have the molds here, so let’s press them well.”

We lined the molds with plastic and poured in the mashed beans.

After pressing them firmly into a rectangular shape, the soybean blocks were complete.

“Is this it? It feels like we haven’t done anything…”

Hanul muttered awkwardly.

“Yes, this is it. Now we just need to place them on the prepared straw and let them dry and ferment.”

“Oh, how long does it take to ferment?”

“I think it takes a little over a month. But since the environment is special, we need to check daily to make sure it ferments well.”

As it’s a fermented food, it couldn’t be made quickly.

Time was the most important factor.

With the soybean blocks ready, we headed to the empty storage for fermentation.

I had already prepared straw there.

“Huh?”

“What’s this?”

Inside the empty storage, we witnessed an unexpected sight.

On the neatly laid-out straw for drying the soybean blocks, Gomgom was curled up, sound asleep.

“When did he come in and fall asleep?”

“Gomgom!”

Ara, holding a soybean block, ran over to check on Gomgom.

Despite being cautiously touched, Gomgom showed no signs of waking up.

“Gomgom won’t wake up!”

“Uh-oh.”

What is this? Could it be that he’s not feeling well?

We quickly approached Gomgom to check his condition. Fortunately, he was breathing evenly and deeply, and there seemed to be no injuries even after checking his body.

“Could it be hibernation?”

Just then, Jeong So-yeon tilted her head and asked.

“Huh?”

“Oh, come to think of it, he’s a bear!”

It made sense. We hadn’t realized it since we’d been living together, but Gomgom was indeed a bear. And it was natural for bears to hibernate.

Whether we poked him or not, Gomgom was just curled up in a ball, deeply asleep.

“So soft.”

Ara hugged Gomgom and rubbed her face against him.

But this was quite a dilemma. Should we leave Gomgom here?

“……”

“Brother, can’t we take Gomgom home?”

“Home?”

“Just while he hibernates, since it’s warmer at home.”

As I glanced down at Ara, she looked at me and Seon-ah with hopeful eyes, clutching Gomgom tightly.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“…I suppose not.”

For now, we moved the sleeping Gomgom.

The Kkumuris had already built a house for Gomgom, so I didn’t understand why he chose to sleep here.

Should I put something like a quilt in his house?

Leaving the sleeping Gomgom, we placed the prepared soybean blocks neatly on the straw.

Now, we just had to flip them occasionally while doing farm work and pay attention to them to complete the fermentation.

“I’m looking forward to it!”

“The smell is nice and savory. It kind of reminds me of Doenjang.”

We had made quite a lot of soybean blocks.

Since they weren’t just for us, we ended up making a lot, but honestly, it still felt like not enough.

Having made it once, I thought I could try making it on my own next time.

***

Time passed, and evening came.

After having dinner together, the family went back home.

“It reminds me of my school days.”

However, Kang Hanul and Jeong So-yeon decided to stay the night, and there was plenty of space to sleep.

There were places to sleep in the buildings made by the Kkumuris, and if needed, we could sleep in the camping tent.

I lit a fire with the guests and enjoyed the campfire blankly.

It felt even more special because it was winter.

“This is so nice.”

Jeong So-yeon mumbled with a dazed look.

In her arms, Ara was nestling quietly, nodding off.

“Next time, let’s invite the children from the orphanage and have fun together.”

“Is that okay?”

“Yes. I was actually thinking about inviting the guild members here for a party, but it got postponed because winter came so suddenly.”

“Wow, that sounds great! If Kyu-seong allows it, I’m really looking forward to it.”

As we chatted, Hanul suddenly took something out from his pocket and started sipping it alone.

Was that my drink?

“Ah, this is nice. Enjoying this while looking at the bonfire is quite charming, just like in the hot spring.”

“I’m glad you like it.”

“Kyu-seong.”

“Yes, brother.”

“Thank you so much.”

Was he feeling sentimental?

I tilted my head, puzzled by Hanul’s sudden expression of gratitude.

“Why all of a sudden?”

“No, well… I just wanted to say it sometime. For inviting me to the dungeon, for making the soybean blocks I mentioned, and for always serving delicious food…”

“You’re welcome. Thanks to you, I joined Ara Hongryeon and always had fun. Ara also really likes you.”

As her name was mentioned, Ara, who had been nodding off, opened her eyes sleepily and looked around.

“Did you call me?”

“Ara, are you sleepy?”

“I’m not sleepy.”

Everyone laughed at Ara, who obviously looked sleepy but insisted she wasn’t. Regardless, Ara burrowed deeper into Jeong So-yeon’s arms, curling up.

“Do you want to sleep with me?”

“Yes.”

“I’ll go in and sleep first. Can I use the tent with Ara?”

“Of course.”

The serene landscape was blanketed with white snow. The sky, like a vast night with the Milky Way spread out, and the crackling campfire provided a calming ASMR sound.

Watching Hanul sip his drink without any snacks, I got up and brought some potatoes.

“Here, have some snacks.”

“Oh, thank you.”

I cut the potatoes into eight pieces and sautéed them in a buttered frying pan. Then I brought out the fairy honey to dip them in.

It was a simple but hearty and delicious potato dish.

Thus, another peaceful day came to an end.

***

After bidding farewell to Jeong So-yeon and Hanul, I headed back to Ara Hongryeon.

Since I had to visit the Terror Guild for a deal, I decided to stop by. Besides, I could buy Ara some winter clothes.

“Hehehe~!”

Ara was humming with excitement at the thought of buying a new hat, starting from when she was getting ready to go out.

Even though I bought her hats quite often, they always seemed to make her happy.

“When do you plan to buy a car, Kyu-seong?”

“Hmm, I should buy one, but I need to look around first.”

“You don’t need to buy an expensive one, but a car would be handy. Think about it.”

“Hmm.”

As Hanul said, having a car would be nice.

However, I hesitated to spend money freely because of a plan that had just come to my mind.

‘A large-scale construction project.’

In fact, I had planned to buy a mountain with the money from the deal with Skyscraper, but I managed to get it from the Terror Guild instead.

Does that mean I saved money? Not exactly.

Now that things turned out this way, I decided to use the money from Skyscraper for the construction project.

It was quite a large-scale project.

‘I’ll secure the construction contract through my father…’

I planned to level the area where my dungeon was located and build roads. I also intended to construct buildings around the dungeon.

I believed the money I had would be enough for this, but I decided not to spend large sums until I got an estimate.

Moreover, I planned to build a house inside the Gluttony Dungeon for Ara and me, as well as a place for my parents to stay, so there were many expenses ahead.

With the help of the Kkumuris and goblins, labor wouldn’t be an issue… and the materials could be partially sourced from the mines.

“We’re here.”

“Ah, is the vacation already over? I can’t believe it.”

Jeong So-yeon got out of the car with a sad face. Hanul laughed and patted her back loudly.

“Haha! Kiddo! Work hard while you can so you can retire early!”

“When I retire, can I build a house in a corner of Kyu-seong’s dungeon and live quietly? I won’t bother anyone and just live quietly.”

“Haha, you’re welcome anytime after you retire. We have plenty of land.”

As I accepted their jokes with a smile, Jeong So-yeon and Hanul suddenly turned serious and whispered to each other.

“Oh, when should I retire then? Maybe tomorrow?”

“That sounds good, but we should give the guild at least a week’s notice out of respect.”

“Hmm, we should give them some time to prepare. Otherwise, we might get into serious trouble.”

“Um, excuse me?”

Seeing their expressions that didn’t seem like jokes, I felt flustered. Ara, grinning, took the lead.

“Kyu-seong, we’re going to buy a hat!”

“Uh, sure.”

Well, it wouldn’t be a problem if they really came, but I wasn’t quite mentally prepared…

As we entered Ara Hongryeon, the guild master happened to be free and summoned me right away.

“You’re here, Kyu-seong.”

“I heard the news. Thank you for taking care of everything, Guild Master.”

“I was just doing my duty as the guild master. Please, have a seat.”

As I sat down, he handed me some documents. The documents were quite complex, but there was another set that explained everything clearly.

“Please read through them slowly and verify the details.”

“Yes, thank you. Is there anything I need to do?”

“For now, there’s nothing special you need to do. It’s just a matter of delivering the goods you supply to Ara Hongryeon in a second batch. Of course, it would be better if you could increase the supply.”

“Hmm, I’m already expanding the fields, so I’ll think about it.”

Due to the goblins, I was gradually expanding the fields. It was better to have some working in the fields and others helping with village construction, rather than having everyone work in the mines.

“Oh, and there’s one more piece of news.”

“News?”

“Yes. We’ve received an official invitation from the Skyscraper Guild.”

“Oh!”

An invitation from the giant Skyscraper Guild in China.

I wonder what awaits us there?

A knight’s armor is fundamentally a high-end item.

Equipment is something that should be tailored to its user, and for elite knights, the best in the empire, ordinary gear holds no meaning.

“But look at the state of it now.”

Noel pointed at the completely dented armor, and with her words, Aiden felt his back rapidly growing damp with sweat.

Even someone with no particular combat prowess could easily tell that the atmosphere Noel was exuding wasn’t normal.

“Do you know what this means?”

“What does it mean?”

“It means that if it weren’t for the armor, Gael would have died instantly. From just a single punch you threw carelessly without even assuming a proper stance.”

Noel continued with a faint smile.

“That’s absurd. Gael is considered a standout even among ordinary combatants.”

“……”

“Even a knight, no matter how skilled, wouldn’t achieve such a result from a single, reckless attack.”

He wished she’d stop with the compliments.

His mouth was getting parched.

“Now that I think about it, there’s only one person I can imagine pulling off such a feat.”

“…Is that so?”

“Yes.”

Noel’s smile widened a bit, and then her lips parted again.

“It’s me.”

“……”

“The pure white energy you just unleashed from your body is the purest of all energies. With that level of output, it’s possible.”

“That’s…”

Aiden trailed off.

Honestly, it was a difficult scene to explain.

Even for those called geniuses, knights are a group that can barely stand shoulder to shoulder with their peers.

And the pinnacle of them is someone who has honed their abilities their entire life, mastering this pure white energy.

So now, this woman was asking indirectly:

How on earth is someone like you able to wield the essence of a skill I’ve spent a lifetime perfecting?

“Explain yourself, Aiden Kellermain.”

The more she spoke, the faster Aiden’s back grew damp.

Though Noel’s face was smiling, her eyes weren’t smiling at all.

“Who are you, really?”

Suppressing the sensation of his throat tightening, Aiden barely managed to reply.

“You saw my records, didn’t you? I’m really nothing—”

“Are you referring to those cover-up records? Yes, I saw them. I did.”

Tap, tap—

Noel lightly tapped her arm with her fingers as she spoke.

“…Excuse me?”

‘Cover-up records? What on earth is she talking about?’

Aiden blinked in confusion as Noel continued calmly.

“Why do you think I went out of my way to bring you of all people?”

‘Why is she asking me that, when I don’t even know the answer myself?’

The person most curious about this was Aiden himself.

Fortunately, Noel wasn’t the type to drag out an explanation.

“If you really wanted to hide your identity, you should’ve left at least one flaw. You should’ve played your little game moderately so I could believe it.”

“What do you mean—”

“Aiden. No matter how big a criminal is, they get caught at least once. No matter how lucky or skilled they are, inevitably, they slip up at least once. That’s life—no matter how wise someone is, they could still be blindsided at any moment. But—”

Noel’s gaze became even colder.

“Here’s a person claiming to be a mediocre con artist, yet in over ten years, he had never been arrested, not even once investigated.”

“……”

“Judging by your track record, you’ve managed to avoid all the major incidents, and if anything seemed remotely dangerous, you pulled out before it escalated, didn’t you?”

“……”

“Isn’t that basically admitting you’ve ‘known’ which dangerous situations to avoid all along?”

Aiden’s mouth fell slightly open.

…Well, that was true.

In reality, when working outside the law, it’s only natural to get tangled in some major incident at some point.

He had certainly put all his effort into dodging anything dangerous.

Of course, it was probably a stroke of luck made possible because he had knowledge of the original story.

But the fact that Aiden had been desperately running away to avoid getting involved in anything dangerous shouldn’t be a reason to overestimate him.

“That’s why I brought you here.”

The problem is that this person is maintaining a completely different attitude.

“No matter who we place as the husband in this fake marriage, it’s bound to be a difficult role to handle. There’s no one among the people I know who could manage it.”

Noel added as she placed her teacup down with a clink.

“Never having failed means that no one knows the limits of your ability. It’s like we can’t see the ceiling. So I brought you in, half as if I were scratching off a lottery ticket.”

‘Well, I get it. There’s some logic to it.’

But the reality behind those records is just the result of him desperately struggling to stay out of sight and avoid getting entangled in the main storyline.

He never imagined it would come back around like this.

There’s a limit to how much better a situation can be interpreted than reality.

Aiden opened his mouth to try to explain.

After all, he had years of experience in professions that involved smooth-talking. He could probably come up with a plausible explanation…

“I feel like I hit the jackpot, judging by how well you handle your abilities.”

…If not for that.

He had ended up displaying a scene that didn’t match his supposed history at all.

Aiden’s mouth shut tight like a clam.

“Aiden. I’d prefer to handle this peacefully. The fact that you have more ability than I expected is actually good news for me.”

Noel’s eyes, which had been faintly glowing until now, shot up to meet Aiden’s gaze.

That alone was overwhelming.

If a physical force existed in her gaze, it felt like just meeting her eyes would cut him down.

“But I do want an explanation for what I just saw. That pure white energy—whether you know it or not—has quite a lot of history behind it.”

‘Uh… well, yeah, it does look that way.’

Heart of Pure White

※Unique – Only this character possesses it!

[It boasts the highest efficiency of all energy cultivation methods, requiring tremendous effort and sensitivity for mastery. This energy cultivation method is an ability passed down directly from Noel’s master, honed to the extreme.]

Even if Aiden himself saw someone else suddenly using an energy cultivation method that had been passed down to him directly, he’d be left wondering what was going on.

‘I can fully understand how she feels.’

“So, I suggest you speak up quickly. Otherwise, I’ll have no choice but to draw my sword.”

‘Correction. I can’t understand her at all. Why is it coming to this?’

“Gael’s way of thinking isn’t always right, but you can tell the truth of the path he’s walked when you cross swords with him. I can get a rough idea of how you acquired those skills just from that.”

As Noel said this, her hand played with the sword at her waist, and the already clammy back of Aiden’s neck grew cold.

Though her face still bore a smile, the intent behind her words, hidden between the lines, was clearly genuine.

This woman would definitely draw her sword and strike him down if he didn’t give a satisfactory explanation.

‘But how exactly should I explain this? How could I possibly tell her that I’ve been transported into a game and that I somehow managed to copy her skills as part of a perk?’

“Are you keeping silent as a sign of agreement?”

‘But I have to say something. Otherwise, I might really die.’

And with that thought echoing in his mind, Aiden heard a clicking sound in his head.

It was the sound that always rang whenever he faced a “client.”

Switching into business mode, convincing someone that he was just an ordinary con artist…

That ship had sailed. It was time to let that go.

There was no way Aiden could come up with an explanation that would convince Noel right there.

In that case, the only remaining option was…

‘I’ll have to lie.’

That’s what he’s always done, after all—lying to survive.

Aiden’s mind began to race.

All the knowledge from the ‘original story’ that could help in this situation poured into his head.

The essence of being a con artist is deceiving others, and the essence of deceiving others lies in provoking their emotions.

So…

When considering everything about Noel Astria Simus, Aiden focused on what keyword would shake her the most.

And what surfaced was…

“Well…”

Even to himself, the words he was forming felt more instinctual than logical.

“It seems like you don’t remember the old days, do you?”

“What?”

“Like when you were a child.”

He dropped those words casually, almost as if they were unintentional.

A hint of sadness, a subtle touch of wistfulness—he made sure to convey those emotions in his tone.

Even Aiden himself wondered what on earth he was saying.

Of course, she wouldn’t remember. They had never even met before.

But the moment Aiden said those words…

Noel froze in place.

Her eyes flickered for a moment, and her expression briefly twisted before cracking.

She quickly regained her usual composure, but…

In that fleeting, barely perceptible moment, Aiden caught the gap.

‘This woman…’

Based on the information from the game, it seemed that some ‘event’ had caused her to lose part of her childhood memories.

He didn’t know what the event was, as the game never covered that much detail.

‘What’s important is…!!’

She really had lost her memories, and more importantly, she had never told anyone about it.

There would’ve been no reason for her to.

So…

If Aiden could just insert himself into that gap of information, into something only Noel herself would know, that alone would be enough.

Just knowing information that the real person couldn’t recall would significantly boost the credibility of his story.

“…What are you talking about, Aiden?”

Her attempt to hide her confusion showed that this ridiculous lie was somehow working.

It was only natural for her to react this way after having one of her deepest secrets touched upon.

Right now, her mind was probably swirling with all sorts of theories about Aiden’s true identity.

And just that was enough to serve as a perfect shield for him.

After all, right now, the most important thing was simply to survive this situation.

So, the next step was…

“Oh, it’s nothing. I just didn’t expect you’d really forgotten….”

He let his words trail off, as if explaining would be pointless if she didn’t remember herself.

And just from that, Noel’s expression stiffened. She could no longer hide her agitation.

“I’ll be taking my leave now, Lady Noel.”

In other words, this was the perfect moment to say something vague and make a run for it.

Aiden’s voice, full of melancholic tones, lingered in the air.

“And next time we meet, I hope you’ll greet me a bit differently.”

Noel would never know what that was supposed to mean.

Because—

‘I have no idea either…!’

Even Aiden himself had no clue what kind of nonsense he was spouting!

But anyone could see that this was the perfect moment to quickly escape the room.

Feeling Noel’s bewildered gaze on his back, Aiden strode out.

***

That was yesterday.

A whirlwind of chaos had swept through his life on the very first day of his new job, leaving him utterly exhausted.

Now, he was holed up in his private room, refusing to see anyone.

[A related event will soon occur.]

Except for this part.

‘What is this related event about?’

Frowning, he glared at the notification.

No matter how he looked at it, the words didn’t give him a good feeling.

It definitely felt like another life-threatening danger was on its way.

‘Should I gather more abilities?’

Honestly, he wanted to avoid getting involved in any fights, but when a warning is as blatant as this, it would be foolish to just sit back and wait.

‘But from whom?’

He couldn’t exactly go back to Noel and get another skill from her.

After what happened yesterday, it would be awkward to even face her.

As Aiden pondered who might be a suitable candidate, the surrounding area suddenly became very noisy.

“His Highness, Prince Daniel, will be arriving soon!”

“Everyone, finish tidying up and clear out! Don’t get caught in his sight!”

Peeking his head out into the corridor to see what the commotion was about, Aiden noticed that someone of high status was visiting.

The Imperial Headquarters was the nerve center of the empire’s army, so all sorts of people came through.

However, a member of the royal family was certainly a rare guest.

As the prince strode confidently down the corridor, staff members of the Imperial Headquarters quickly stepped aside to clear his path, which was impossible not to notice.

Aiden’s eyes narrowed slightly at the sight.

‘If he’s royalty from the Holy Kingdom…’

Aiden mentally flipped through the game’s lore.

The powers wielded by the Empire’s members were ‘Qi’, granted by Karva’s authority, while the powers wielded by the Holy Kingdom’s members were ‘Divinity’, granted by Seor, the god of purification.

And those who wielded divinity best were the royalty, those closest to the source of that power.

‘…Should I give it a try?’

If building relationships resulted in skill copies, it wouldn’t hurt to get acquainted with someone like that.

If the connection worked out, great. If not, no big deal.

Since he held the title of Noel’s spouse, exchanging a greeting and having a brief conversation shouldn’t be considered a major offense.

With that thought in mind, Aiden puffed out his chest and approached the prince, who was walking down the corridor.

Naturally, he positioned himself to intercept him and said, “It’s an honor to meet you, Your Highness. I am…”

But the moment he extended his hand.

Slap!

His hand was violently swatted away.

The prince’s voice, filled with disgust as if he had just seen a cockroach, followed immediately after.

“Get away, you filthy thing.”

…Life sure is tough.

Aiden quietly chewed over this thought as he looked at the person who had just slapped his hand away.

It was a young man with an oily, smirking face, his features exuding arrogance and entitlement.

‘…Now I understand why everyone was trying to get out of here before he arrived.’

With a temperament like that, it’s no wonder people reacted the way they did.

“One kneels on one knee when greeting royalty. How does a fool like you not know that and still walk these halls?”

‘Wasn’t that tradition abolished a long time ago? These days, even royalty would face backlash for demanding something like that.’

“I am the seventh prince of the Holy Kingdom of Craven. Name’s…”

‘Well, doesn’t matter. I’ll just call him ‘Slick’ in my head.’

Aiden mentally snipped the words he just heard and thought that nickname suited the prince perfectly.

Based on what he had just said, it was obvious he had done something quite significant.

“And judging by your commoner-like behavior, there’s no need to even ask about your lineage.”

‘Wow.’

In just a few seconds, he had managed to display the full measure of his awful personality. Aiden’s temples began to throb as if they were about to burst.

“Your Highness, I believe it’s unwise to underestimate this man so lightly.”

Even the fully armored guard standing beside the prince tried to intervene, likely concerned by the situation.

Of course, Slick’s face immediately twisted into a scowl.

“Shut up. Who told you to interfere?”

“But, Your Highness, this man—”

Hearing the guard’s quiet words, a crooked smile spread across Slick’s face.

“Oh.”

It was a condescending smile, as if he had just heard a ridiculous joke.

“So, this is the one they brought in? Lion-heart’s man, huh?”

“Yes, Your Highness.”

As the guard responded, Slick’s unpleasant gaze swept over Aiden from head to toe.

“This guy?”

“They didn’t even acknowledge my request, but picked this guy as her spouse?”

From the way he talked, it was clear that this guy had originally had a deep interest in the position of Noel’s spouse.

A vague realization dawned on him.

The “related event” mentioned here…

‘Could it be that it’s connected to the troublesome royal standing right in front of me?’

It seemed that Aiden had walked right into it while trying to prepare for whatever was coming.

‘Ah.’

Aiden Kellermain.

On day one, he faced a friend of his spouse who drew a sword on him. Now, on day two, he had managed to get into a conflict with a foreign royal.

‘Ah.’

There was nothing left to do but sigh.

Prev I TOC I Next

A rather old and stately wooden table trembled. It was struck by a fist full of bewilderment and anger.

“Calm down, please.”

“Do I look like I can calm down right now?! These damned beastly creatures…!”

He panted for a moment before wiping his forehead and regaining his sharp gaze.

“How dare…”

“Disgusting humans.”

Cold stares began to fly from all directions, as if sharp thorns were about to pierce my entire body, but I just smiled and shrugged.

“Phew, do you have any proof that what you’re saying is true?”

“Well, if you want me to prove it, I don’t really have anything to offer.”

“That’s troublesome. While what you said was certainly shocking, it might just be an unfounded slander.”

“Do you really think so?”

“…….”

He tried hard to feign calmness, but I could clearly see it. The emotions clouding that elf’s eyes. It wasn’t me who sowed the seeds. They had already sprouted, absorbing water and nutrients. My testimony merely served as weeding to help them grow.

Yes. He had already been…

“Are you trying to test me, Elder?”

“…What are you trying to say?”

“You already suspected those hairy beasts, which is why the best forces are absent here, right?”

I leaned back in the chair with a relaxed expression. The glances that shot towards my slouched posture grew sharper, but I didn’t care.

Evidence? Such things only matter when our thoughts don’t align. Instead of wasting time pushing and pulling, it’s more beneficial to get to the point. But this overly rigid elf had no such intention.

‘I have no choice but to break him by force.’

“I wanted to greet the Divine Archer, but she seems quite busy.”

“…A human who knows the state of our village so well.”

‘Well…’

But this elf was more stubborn and narrow-minded than I anticipated. The fact that he even suspected his own kind, not just the beastmen, was telling.

‘Indeed, I even knew about the boundary stone. I’ve caused some unnecessary misunderstandings.’

However, for someone in a leading position among the elves, his thinking was very shortsighted. If you recognize a problem, you should discuss solutions rather than first seeking out the informant. Such foolish behavior.

Given this, it’s no wonder that even with a Divine Archer, they were defeated and miserably driven away in the original story. But this time will be different. Unlike the original, now I am involved.

“Let’s not tire ourselves with suspicion. There are ways to handle this. And aren’t there more urgent matters than finding the culprit right now?”

With an unwavering smile, I addressed the man who appeared to be the head elder.

“The humans are closely monitoring the cooperation between the beastmen and the elves.”

“…Hah. Even while receiving the blessing of the World Tree most closely, are they now afraid of losing it?”

“Your insight is impressive. That’s why they are running around, trying to find the cause, even hiring a problem-solver like me.”

In any deal, to get what you want, you must give what the other party desires.

“There is no concrete evidence that the beastmen will burn the World Tree, but we do have circumstantial evidence. A barter. Isn’t it sufficient information to buy into the reason for the cooperation between the elves and the beastmen?”

“……”

“Well, you should discuss this with the other elders, and most importantly, you need to contact the Divine Archer, the strongest warrior in this village. I will wait patiently. Can I expect a positive response?”

Additionally, I was genuinely curious. Could this male elf, who had taken the position of an elder in a matriarchal elf society, resist the temptation of visible achievements?

“…No. There is no need to wait any longer.”

“Elder Hallas! Without consulting the Divine Archer…! This is unilateral!”

“Shut up. Do we have time to follow procedures in such an urgent matter related to the World Tree?”

‘As expected.’

-Your silver tongue stirs these creatures up. What are you planning?

-Haha, thank you for the compliment.

I suppressed a satisfied smile. Though he grandiosely wrapped it in words like ‘for the World Tree’, his eyes were gleaming with the most honest human emotion: greed.

‘Indeed, it’s an offer too tempting to refuse. He took the bait immediately.’

But I didn’t mind. The more apparent the desire, the easier the negotiation.

“Alright. Since I proposed it first, I’ll be the one to provide information first.”

As I spoke, I discreetly sent a telepathic message to Tamer.

-Do it.

Our loyal follower quickly responded to my command.

-Gweee…

Even the slight movement of the massive brown caterpillar caused a faint tremor throughout the meeting hall.

“O……!”

“Is that it?”

‘They’re pretty scared.’

Maybe it was because of the recent incident with the boundary stone. Naturally, the elves did not look kindly upon the sight of the sandworm.

However.

“To dare bring a monster into this sacred hall…! Ugh!”

An elf, oblivious to the situation, tried to rebuke but was soon silenced.

“Casting Silence without incantation, indeed an elf. The reputation as masters of magic is well-deserved.”

“I apologize.”

Elder Hallas had realized it. This was a display of power. It implied that not only the current cooperation but even future actions would face severe repercussions if there were any betrayal or discord.

“You don’t have to worry about the response. We will provide the evidence.”

“…Oh. Can you hint at what that evidence might be?”

“It’s a letter from another elf village that is close to the beastmen. It contains what you are curious about.”

Okay, deal established. I nodded and gave the elder an answer he would want.

“Elder, are you familiar with the entity known as a ‘Calamity’?”

“I’ve only seen it in records. Aren’t they beings from beyond that can bring about the end of the world?”

“Since you know, this conversation will be quicker.”

Let’s drive the nail in for this highly suspicious elder so that he never sides with the beastmen in the future.

“There is a Calamity among the beastmen. They intend to burn the World Tree to bring about the destruction of the South.”

Silence settled heavily under the ancient wooden table. The news was shocking enough to disturb not only the already suspicious elder but also the elves who considered the beastmen allies.

“Never mind the truth of it… How do you even know such a thing?”

Outlandish stories are not easily accepted, even if there is evidence. Whatever I presented, they would doubt and counter.

‘What’s needed isn’t plausible and reasonable evidence.’

In such an outlandish situation, it required radical and irrefutable evidence. Therefore—

“Ah, my apologies for the late introduction to the noble beings of the southern jungle, the true descendants of the World Tree. How rude of me.”

Contrary to my words, I tilted my head arrogantly.

-Presenting myself as evidence.

“As the leader of the Disaster Cult and the servant of the ‘Calamity of Many Faces,’ who is in enmity with the ‘Calamity of the Herd,’ I formally introduce myself as Frostmane.”

“Enmity…?”

“It’s not complicated. Just as humans have factions among nobles and elves aren’t much different, intelligent beings naturally have conflicts.”

Just like you.

Even among elves, there are radicals who want to reclaim the World Tree by joining hands with the beastmen and moderates who are content with the current peace. I was informing them that even the Calamities, who bring about world destruction, weren’t always on good terms.

The moment clear confusion appeared on the elves’ faces.

“Do you still need evidence? Even after seeing this insatiable jealousy, envy, and the profound faith in the Calamity of Many Faces!”

Bang!

The ancient wooden table shook once more. Although my strength was lacking, the impact on them was likely double what the elf elder had shown earlier.

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend! You must heed my words not only for the sake of you elves but for the survival of the South!”

“…This is insane.”

Hallas’s gaze revealed he was looking at a madman. And it wasn’t just Hallas; nearly every elf in the hall shared that look.

But it didn’t matter.

“My answer is final. Now, present your evidence.”

Hallas’s brows furrowed slightly as he handed me a rolled-up document.

“…There’s no turning back. We can’t afford to sacrifice any more boundary stones.”

“A wise choice.”

Hallas handed me a scroll.

“This contains the schemes of the Calamity of the Herd. Uncovering it should be interesting.”

“If you’re done here, leave our village.”

Gone was the subtly cooperative atmosphere from the beginning of the meeting, replaced by a palpable exhaustion.

It wasn’t just Hallas; nearly everyone in the hall felt the same.

“Of course. I’ve completed my business here. But before I go, there’s one more thing to do.”

I snapped my fingers, the sound echoing through the hall.

-Rumble!

-Gweee…

-Screeech!

The enormous sandworm burst through the elf structure, destroying it and swallowing me whole.

– Haha, farewell!

“You, you bastard!”

The elder, who had instantly abandoned all semblance of dignity, cursed at me.

Why? The reason was obvious.

The sandworms each carried someone they were supposed to transport inside their mouths.

Me.

Tamer.

And lastly, Freesia.

– I forgot to mention, I’m also a thief. I’ll be taking Evergreen Village’s finest jewel! I’ll show her the world and then return her!

“Capture all the sandworms!”

“No, we can’t! Freesia might get hurt….”

“Damn it! These crazy fanatics!!”

The frustration of failing to achieve his goal and now facing reprimand was enough to sweep away his earlier weariness.

It was truly a long-awaited delight.

***

-Gweeeek!

In the middle of the jungle, three sandworms suddenly emerged, spitting out their contents along with saliva.

“Ah….”

Freesia staggered but managed to stand on solid ground.

The familiar, cozy wooden meeting hall was nowhere to be seen.

The dense forest around her felt unfamiliar.

“Ugh. You’d think I’d get used to this by the third time, but this disgusting feeling never goes away.”

Apparently, even her squinting eyes were not spared from the spit.

Using a handkerchief to wipe her eyes, the ‘human’ spoke to her as if nothing had happened.

“Freesia, I’m sorry, but could you use the Clean spell once more? Oh, and this time for my subordinate as well. He’s proven to be more useful than I expected.”

“…You’re crazier than I thought.”

Freesia was dumbfounded by his unabashed and brazen tone.

“What do you intend to do with me?”

He was a human, a member of the notoriously evil race, and even more, a self-professed servant of the ‘Calamity.’

It was only natural for her to feel anxious about her safety.

But his response was unexpected.

“What? What do you mean?”

Instead, he replied as if her question was absurd.

“Sandworms have delicate insides. If you could resist, you would have escaped long ago.”

“That, that’s…”

Of course, she had thought about it.

Drawing an arrow imbued with aura inside the creature’s mouth.

Causing an explosion with magic despite potential injuries.

But there was an emotion that came before resistance.

Freesia had decisively discarded that option.

‘In the end, I just have to defeat this villain, right?’

As the Divine Archer’s daughter, she could deal with the villain who caused great harm to the village.

…And she could also satisfy her curiosity about the outside world.

Her longing and curiosity about the outside world lightly crushed her immediate sense of crisis and duty.

Of course.

‘How did he know?!’

It never crossed her mind that the human in front of her could see her true thoughts.

“Freesia, didn’t you secretly wish for this?”

“What nonsense…!”

“You don’t need to hide it. Your mother isn’t here, nor are the elves.”

Frostmane exaggeratedly spread his arms wide.

His appearance was somewhat unsightly, with monster saliva dripping from the ends of his sleeves.

“You’ve stepped out from that village you found so stifling. It’s freedom!”

“Freedom…?”

Freesia’s lips parted in a daze. The word he spoke carried a different weight.

Being the Divine Archer’s daughter.

Her position as a High Elf.

The restrictions of not being an adult.

She was free from all those constraints, faced with ‘freedom.’

“…Really, does that mean I can go to the West or the North too?”

An indescribable exhilaration made her blood flow faster.

The hot sands under the sun.

And not the fake snow from ice magic, but real snow falling from the sky.

Her chest swelled with excitement at the thought of experiencing new things she had never seen before.

The human responded cheerfully.

“Of course. I’m an excellent guide for such things. I’ve toured many places.”

Freesia perked her ears and pondered for a moment.

The thought of eliminating him had long vanished. If he could be her first guide, she was ready to forgive his crimes.

If any problems arose, she could always kill him and return to the elf village!

“In that case!”

“All you need to do is sign here.”

How he had managed to produce such an intact piece of paper amidst the waves of monster saliva was a mystery.

And where he had gotten the quill pen was another.

In her curiosity, she scribbled hastily on the paper he handed her.

‘So this is what a human contract looks like?’

Indeed, its contents were…

[The Disaster Cult is always recruiting followers]

[Welcoming even those who already serve a deity]

[Tourism available anywhere]

[Tour itinerary: Starting from nearby beastmen colonies…]

“What are you waiting for? Hurry and sign.”

Freesia’s cold gaze darted between the contract and the madman.
