“Confirm!”

[Refri Herb]

Grade: E

Description: A medicinal herb known for its excellent pain-relieving properties.

It can only be found in the wild, with no known cultivation methods.

Usage Requirement: Level 1 or above.

Effects: Pain relief, life recovery.

‘Is it an herb?’

Based on the description, it didn’t seem particularly dangerous.

Hiro sniffed it.

“This smell….”

It was a strong, familiar scent, one that Hiro had encountered before.

Upon smelling it, there was a sudden burst of refreshment.

“This is… a pain relief patch, isn’t it?”

The scent was unmistakably that of a pain relief patch.

“Pepper, where did you find this?”

“Crunch crunch… I found it deep in the forest! For you, Master-kyu!”

Pepper replied while munching on raw sweet potatoes.

“How did you know about this?”

“Kyu? I overheard some other species talking about it, Kyuu!!”

“Other species?”

“Kyuu!”

“There are other species in the Spirit Realm?”

“Yes!”

That was news to him.

It made sense, as it was an undiscovered area, so there was no way to have any information about it.

‘Other species in the Spirit Realm… Isn’t the Spirit Realm supposed to have only spirits?’

“That’s curious…”

“There was a short-legged species that said if you grind the herb and apply it to your lower back, the pain goes away-kyu!”

“That’s definitely a pain relief patch.”

It was surprising that not only were there other species in the Spirit Realm, but also a pain relief patch in the Overlord’s domain.

‘Is this meant for NPCs, not players?’

The NPCs of the Overlord were so lifelike that they could almost be considered living humans.

They could feel emotions, think, and act just like real humans.

‘Just look at Hans.’

A game where even NPCs experience emotions.

That’s the essence of the Overlord.

This pain relief patch might exist solely for NPCs, not players.

“Or for users with jobs like mine, as a farmer.”

There was an interesting post on the internet.

A player who had switched to the ‘Painter’ job was passionately painting.

After over a month of continuous painting, the player ended up with a status ailment called ‘tendinitis.’

It was said that his wrist hurt so much that it barely moved afterward.

‘This game is unnecessarily realistic.’

“But if I have this, it should be fine, right, Pepper?”

“Kyuu?”

“Do you have a lot of it?”

“No, there’s not as much of the herb as I thought-kyu.”

“Is that so?”

The herb’s description mentioned that it couldn’t be cultivated and could only be found in the wild.

‘Should I give it a try?’

“Seed Extraction!”

[You have used the Seed Extraction skill.]

[Extracting seeds from the Refri Herb.]

Ding!

[Seed extraction successful.]

[You have obtained 1 Refri Herb Seed.]

[Luck has positively influenced the outcome.]

[You have obtained 1 additional Refri Herb Seed.]

[The Seed Extraction skill has gained a small amount of skill experience.]

[You have gained job experience.]

“Oh! I did it. And I got two of them?”

Luck was on his side.

He managed to obtain two seeds, even though only one was expected.

‘Just as I thought.’

[Seed Extraction LV. 2]

Experience: 10.44%

Description: Extracts cultivable seeds from plants.

Spirit Energy Consumption: 50

Cooldown: 9 seconds

Success Rate: 15%

Effect: Seed extraction success rate +6%

The description of the Seed Extraction skill mentioned “plants,” so Hiro tried it, thinking that herbs were also plants, and successfully extracted the seeds as expected.

Ding!

The notifications didn’t stop there.

[Achievement Unlocked.]

[You have successfully extracted two seeds at once through a lucky Seed Extraction.]

[You have obtained the title, ‘1+1 Extraction.’]

[1+1 Extraction]

Grade: D (Multi)

Acquisition Condition: Extract two seeds using the Seed Extraction skill.

Option: When using the Seed Extraction skill, gain one additional seed.

Seed Extraction success rate +3%

Description: A ‘Buy 1, Get 1 Free’ event is underway! Buy one, get two!

“Oooooh…”

“Kyu? What’s going on, Master-kyu?”

“Nothing, just got something good.”

Hiro obtained a valuable title.

With this title, Hiro could obtain more seeds when extracting them from crops.

Additionally, the success rate of the Seed Extraction skill had increased.

This title would be of great help for farming in the future.

“This is it.”

Hiro smiled.

“Kyu~”

“Hm? Are you smiling just because I am?”

“I don’t know!”

“Then why are you smiling?”

“Because I’m happy when you’re happy, Master-kyu!!”

“…Adorable.”

Hiro patted Pepper on the head.

He now understood why people often say someone is “bewitched by a fox.”

This soft fur and fluffy tail.

And look at that cute expression.

How could anyone not fall for it?

‘If anyone gets bewitched by a nine-tailed fox, it’s just because the fox is that cute.’

“Ahem. So, I just need to grind this and apply it, right?”

“Kyuu!”

“Let’s give it a try.”

The farmer’s board had numerous complaints from players who overexerted themselves farming and ended up with a status ailment called “herniated disc.”

Once afflicted, it was hard to recover.

‘I have to be careful.’

“First…”

Hiro washed a nearby stone clean with water and then shaped a thick branch to pound the herb.

Whack! Whack! Whack!

As Hiro pounded the herb, the scent of the pain relief patch became stronger.

‘And now…?’

Hiro spread the ground herb evenly over sweet potato leaves piled on one side.

Ding!

[You have created an item using herbs.]

[Skill, Medicine Crafting LV. 1, has been acquired.]

[Medicine Crafting LV. 1]

Grade: E

Type: Passive

Experience: 0.00%

Description: Allows the creation of medicine using herbs.

Effect: Medicine effects +10%

Medicine duration +10%

[You have successfully created a Crude Refri Medicine.]

[The Medicine Crafting skill has gained a small amount of experience.]

“Hmm… I’ve got a new skill?”

Medicine Crafting was, as the name suggested, a skill to make medicine.

It wasn’t a bad skill.

Considering the unpredictability of events in the Spirit Realm, it was necessary to have healing skills.

“Check!”

[Crude Refri Medicine]

Grade: E

Description: A medicine clumsily made by an inexperienced crafter. Due to lack of skill, the full effects of the medicine could not be achieved.

Usage Requirement: Level 1 or above.

Effect: Pain relief, status ailment recovery.

It was indeed quite crudely made.

There was no other choice.

Hiro knew little about medicine crafting and lacked proper tools.

A good outcome was unlikely.

“Shall I apply it now?”

Hiro slapped the Refri Medicine onto his lower back.

[You have used Crude Refri Medicine.]

[Back pain is relieved.]

“Oh, it’s working well.”

The slight pain disappeared, replaced by a cooling sensation.

“Master, does it not hurt anymore-kyu?”

“Yes, it doesn’t hurt now.”

“Kyuu!”

“Thanks.”

“Kyuuwuuu~!!!”

When Hiro praised Pepper and patted his head, Pepper smiled happily.

“Shall I plant these seeds now?”

It was uncertain when the Refri Herb might be needed again.

Hiro picked up a hoe.

[You have used the Land Clearing skill.]

[The Land Clearing skill has gained a small amount of experience.]

[You have gained job experience.]

[You have used the Sowing skill.]

[The Sowing skill has gained a small amount of experience.]

[You have gained job experience…]

Hiro quickly cleared the ground and planted the two seeds there.

At this moment, Hiro was unaware of how these two planted seeds would help him in the future.

***

‘Is there really no way?’

After exiting the game, Hiro accessed the Overlord community to search for information about the auction house.

Hiro’s goal was to start a successful farm of his own.

He had failed in reality due to interference and seniority conflicts.

But in the Overlord, he could not afford to fail.

‘Anyway, it’s the Spirit Realm, so there’s no one to interfere.’

The problem was that he needed to sell his crops but could not access the auction house.

Anyone could use the auction house at Level 20 if they had an Auction House Pass, but to obtain that pass, one had to find a “territory.”

‘Could there be a territory in the Spirit Realm?’

The Spirit Realm is an undiscovered region.

Because of that, there was no information, making it uncertain whether territories existed there.

The only reassuring thing was…

‘At least, there are other species…’

According to Pepper, there were other species in the Spirit Realm, and he had encountered them a few times.

Meeting them might be the key to obtaining an Auction House Pass.

“I’ll think about that later. For now, let’s check the crop prices.”

Hiro entered the farmer’s board.

[Sweet potatoes for sale!! 50 gold each.]

[Delicious strawberries available! 1,000 gold per box!! Includes a bonus!]

[Selling grapes. Urgent sale for wine-making grapes!!!]

Various posts were being uploaded to the farmer’s board.

One post, in particular, caught Hiro’s attention.

[I just started Overlord and want to become a farmer. Is being a farmer any good?]

Hiro opened the post to read it.

[Hello, I’m a new player in Overlord!

I’m interested in farming, so I’m considering becoming a farmer.

I prefer selling things over hunting.

Is being a farmer viable in Overlord?]

Most of the comments were negative.

\- Glem: Farmers are always welcome!

\- DepeDepe: Don’t become a farmer! Absolutely don’t do it! It’s really terrible!

\- Kaden (Author): Why? Isn’t it good to sell crops and earn money?

\- DepeDepe: LOL, crop prices are completely ruined. The money you earn is not worth the effort you put in. Plus, players don’t buy crops from other players; they only buy them from NPCs.

\- Kaden (Author): Why not? Aren’t player-made crops better?

\- DepeDepe: They are, but the difference in effectiveness is too minor, so they don’t sell well. Most of the people selling items on the board are trying to clear out their stock and quit. Seriously, don’t do it.

\- DogThatBarksAtDumbPosts: Woof woof woof woof!!!

“Hmm… The market prices really aren’t that good.”

The options for crops weren’t very appealing, nor did they have any special characteristics.

As a result, players tended to buy crops from NPCs instead of other players.

NPC crops were cheaper, after all.

As players leveled up, it would become possible to harvest better crops, but lasting until that point was tough.

‘Leveling up is hard, after all…’

“Well, it doesn’t matter to me.”

The crops grown by Spirit Farmers had better options than those of ordinary farmers.

Hiro was certain.

He believed he could survive and succeed amidst the fierce competition.

“Then, should I get back into the game?”

Hiro tidied up briefly and logged back into Overlord.

“Kyu!”

As soon as Hiro entered, Pepper rushed over and clung to him as if he had been waiting.

“Master! You’re back-kyu?”

“Yeah. The garden’s doing fine, right?”

“Kyu!! No problems at all!!”

Holding Pepper, Hiro stepped out of the temple and looked at the garden.

“Oh.”

A few days after planting the tomato seeds, the vines were now bearing clusters of ripe red fruits.

“They’re nicely ripened.”

It was time to harvest the tomatoes.
